  • 7 reasons women believe they cannot experience true love

7 reasons women believe they cannot experience true love

Dionne Warwick expressed it best all those years ago when she sang the anthem for heartbroken women everywhere. I’ll Never Fall In Love Again. That song is all about feeling disappointed after a failed romance, and it ends with the wryly self-aware lines, “So for at least until tomorrow, I’ll never fall in love again.”

Here are 7 sad reasons women think they’ll never find true love:

    They’re hurting

It doesn’t take a genius IQ to know that giving up on love is often a reaction to feeling deeply hurt and disenchanted. The women who have invested the most in a failed relationship who have got their fingers the most badly burnt. Not falling in love again is a way of protecting themselves in the future.

    They confuse the issue

Falling in love is not the problem. The real issue is falling in love with the wrong person. It’s all about missing the warning signs, not seeing the red flags, not hearing the warning bells, whistles, and sirens.

Giving up on love says, “I don’t believe there’s another way of doing this thing called love, so the only option I have is to wash my hands of it.

    They lack self-awareness

Women who fall for a “bad boy” tend to do so more than once. When a relationship goes wrong, you need time to lick your wounds. Then, it’s time to look at patterns like the kind of person you’re attracted to, how you act in a relationship, the expectations and dreams you bring to the table, what you choose to ignore, and much more. Unaware love is often ignorant love. It pays to have a clear sight of yourself and your prospective partner before you dive into the romance.

    They take it too personally

Of course, you can learn something from failed relationships. But too many women learn the misguided lesson they’re less attractive and worthy human beings than women who’ve managed to find a lasting relationship. A far more useful lesson is that failure means they’re simply doing something wrong. That isn’t a disaster because you can always learn to change your behavior.

    They give up too soon

No baby ever got up onto its little wobbly legs, took one faltering step, fell on its face, and said, “That’s it, I’m done. I’m through with walking!”

Some people are naturally better at creating good relationships than others. But any woman can master the art of having a great relationship. You may have to fall on your face once or twice. That’s normal. It’s all part of the learning experience. But if you keep “falling on your face”, get some help to figure out how you can change that.

They send out the wrong message

That “I hate all men” message is putting you at risk. There’s a special kind of man who will approach the woman sporting the big “Stay “Away” banner. That man is the Hunter. He piques his vanity and strokes his large ego to win over the woman who has sworn off men. For him, it’s all about the thrill of the chase. You’re flattered he’s going to such an effort to woo you, but beware. Once he’s caught up with you, he’ll soon get bored and move on. The chase is his thing — not cozy domesticity.

They think they will never want love again

Women who give up on love do so — for a while — because they love too much and want a partner so much. That yearning isn’t going to go away. Whatever they say now, they’re not going to enter a nunnery, and they will want to search for love again. They can silence that yearning for a while, but it will come back even stronger than before.

Instead, they need to ask themselves, “Since love is so important to me, how can I do things differently next time? What’s the most powerful thing I can do to change the way I ‘do’ relationships so I find the love I truly want next time?”

The yearning for love is a powerful human drive. When we try to suppress it, it only comes back stronger.

The polls may say what they please, but the reality is that the vast majority of women need to feel loved. Giving up on love won’t make you happy and won’t work. Taking a sabbatical from love while you become the woman who can captivate and keep her perfect partner makes a lot more sense.

You don’t have to give up on something simply because you don’t know the best way to do it. It makes much more sense to learn a simple skill to turn your love life around.

I don’t see how marriage benefits a man – Kojo Yankson

Ghanaian media personality Kojo Yankson has sparked a significant debate on social media by sharing his perspective on marriage and its perceived advantages for men versus women.

During a podcast appearance, Yankson asserted that, from a practical standpoint, there are no inherent benefits for men in marriage.

He further emphasized that this contrast becomes even more evident when comparing the perceived benefits enjoyed by women in marital relationships.

“If I’m being practical and I’m assessing things on a simply cost-benefit basis, it hard to see how marriage benefits a man, especially if we’re comparing it to how it benefits a woman,” he said.

He continued: “Take a single man, take a married man; what are the things that a married man can do and have that a single man cannot do and have?

“Name one and I’ll get up and leave,” he challenged the host.

I will be talked about in the next 500 years – Cheddar

Prominent Ghanaian entrepreneur and presidential hopeful, Nana Kwame Bediako, envisions leaving a legacy that will endure for centuries, firmly embedding his name in history for the next 500 years.

As the leader of the New Force Movement, Bediako aims to become one of Africa’s foremost industrialists, setting his sights on substantial achievements in the continent’s industrial landscape.

Bediako emphasized that his primary focus lies not in amassing wealth but in fostering opportunities and constructing enduring enterprises.

Speaking on JoyFM on Wednesday, April 10, he said, “That’s where I see myself to be. I see myself to be one of the people to be talked about in the next 500 years. I know people don’t like to hear this fact but that is how confident I am, in who I am, what I can do and what I’m capable of doing.”

Mr Bediako further stated that a country’s resources must be processed and packaged in order to be traded on the global market.

He said this is essential for attracting foreign investment and bringing money into the country.

“Other people can start to bring their money constantly into your country and that is how the economy revolves and evolves.”

He pointed out that Africa is the only continent that has not yet fully embraced industrialisation.

According to him, African countries tend to rely on imported goods and services, rather than producing their own.

“Our clothes come from somewhere when it’s done. We might do the cotton but we are not the ones doing the textiles and clothes. We might plant the cocoa but we will not be the ones doing the chocolates,” he lamented.

Serwaa has done nothing wrong sharing captured moments with a polygamous man – Nam 1

Nana Appiah Mensah, often referred to as NAM1, has expressed his perspective, stating that he perceives nothing inappropriate about Serwaa’s decision to reminisce about intimate moments she shared with her partner.

The CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold, diverging from the widespread criticism Serwaa has faced since the leak of her private video, believes that it’s common for such videos to be kept and valued.

NAM1 describes these intimate moments as invaluable and considers it normal for someone to share such a video with their trusted partner.

“Why do we take photos & videos? Is it not to have and to hold cherished & priceless moments? Just so, we can relive the moments which cannot easily be re-enacted? What exactly is wrong if a single lady shares an erotic moment with a polygamous man via an electronic medium? NAM1 wrote on Twitter on April 10.

The former head of Menzgold made his remarks in response to the widespread circulation of an intimate video involving Serwaa Amihere and her former partner, who is reported to be married, prompting legal action against three individuals, including the mentioned partner.

Amidst the criticisms and the legal proceedings, Serwaa’s ex-partner, Henry Fitz, sought to clarify how he came into possession of the video, asserting that it was initially sent to him by Serwaa. He also denied any involvement in the tape’s leakage.

Recalling the incident, it is evident that Serwaa Amihere was the one recording the video that later went viral.

    Background

A video featuring Serwaa Amihere and a man identified as Henry Fitz in an intimate setting circulated widely on various social media platforms.

According to reports, the situation unfolded when Serwaa Amihere’s makeup artist was approached and instructed to convey a message to the journalist, demanding a payment of GH₵5,000 to prevent the dissemination of explicit photos and videos.

The situation escalated when an unidentified individual demanded a larger sum of GH₵20,000, despite Serwaa Amihere complying with the initial demands.

Despite Serwaa Amihere’s compliance with the initial demands, the accused proceeded to publish the video.

As a result, Amihere reported the incident to the authorities, leading to the arrest of one Edem Saviour Ketti.

The police have stated that efforts are underway to apprehend Henry Fitz, who remains at large, while investigations into the matter continue.

  • “I will curse you and your entire generation with the power of God” – Opambour tells Jack Alolome

“I will curse you and your entire generation with the power of God” – Opambour tells Jack Alolome

Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwah Yiadom, widely recognized as Opambour, who heads the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre, has issued a dire warning to gospel artist Jack Alolome for purportedly disrespecting his wife during a live radio broadcast.

Opambour has given Jack Alolome, alongside the management of Accra FM and the program’s host where the disrespectful remarks were aired, a deadline of one week to extend apologies for the disrespect shown. Failure to comply, he asserts, may result in invoking serious curses upon them.

“Let the owner of the station listen, I will curse you with the power of God, I will curse your work, I will curse your wife and I will curse your offspring with the power of God. Listen again, the host of the program, I will curse you with the power of God, I will curse your wife and curse your children. Everybody else in the studio, I will curse you and your entire generation. If I don’t hear anything before next week, I will curse your life and destiny,” he fumed.

The prophet made it clear that he would not stand for any disrespect towards his wife. Opambour’s indignation stems from an incident recounted by Jack Alolome, allegedly involving the prophet’s church in the past.

During a live interview on Accra FM, Jack Alolome shared an incident where Opambour reportedly instructed his junior pastor to investigate a foul smell, suspected to be flatulence, during a church service. The gospel musician claimed that the controversial prophet directed his junior pastor to sniff the buttocks of individuals in the vicinity of the odor, including his wife.

“Opambour is a very sharp guy with a sharp eyesight. We were sitting and all of a sudden, he asked that all the pastors stand up. ‘Can’t you see [sic] this place is smelling? Who has flatulated here? Pastor Chief, sniff everyone’s buttocks,” the gospel musician recounted the alleged words of Opambour.

“So he had to bend his head and sniff everyone out one after the other. He [Opambour] even said “Sniff my wife too, I don’t trust her,” he said.

He however explained that it turned out that the smell was from the shoe of a church drummer which Opambour did not take lightly.

“Apparently it was not any of them but rather the guy playing the drums. He had removed his shoe so the smell was coming from there… so they told him it was the drummer and he asked how much they had been paying the drummer which he was told GHC100 daily. He instructed that ‘give him GHC200. Come for the GHC200 and leave here, you can join whichever church you like but don’t ever come back here again. If you joke, I will curse you and you will only be set free in your grave’ to which the entire church shouted Opambour,” he said.

But according to Opambour, the musician and the radio station as well as the presenter have up to a week to apologise to him or incur his wrath for disrespecting his wife.

Accra Circuit Court convicts herbalist for producing unregistered COVID-19 medications

47-year-old herbalist, Abdallah Awal, was convicted by the Circuit Court in Accra for producing unregistered and unauthorized medicine purported to cure COVID-19.

The fine imposed on him amounted to 7,500 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢90,000.

Should he fail to pay the fine, he would face a 15-year custodial sentence, as decreed by the court presided over by Her Honour Afia Owusua Appiah. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Amoah Richard from the Legal and Prosecution Unit at the CID Headquarters, successfully demonstrated Awal’s guilt.

Awal, the first of the two individuals arraigned, was found guilty on multiple charges, including manufacturing herbal medicinal products without authorization, producing unregistered herbal medicinal products, attempting to sell unregistered herbal medicinal products, manufacturing herbal medicine in unregistered premises, and storing herbal medicine in unregistered premises, all violations of Section 130(1) and 142 of the Public Health Act 2012, Act 851.

On the other hand, Bin Musah Abdallah, aged 27 and reportedly unemployed, was acquitted and discharged as the second accused. He was cleared of charges related to abetment and attempting to sell unregistered herbal medicinal products, contravening Section 18(1) of Act 20/60 and Sections 118(1) and 129 of the Public Health Act 2012, Act 851.

    Brief facts

Per the brief facts of the case as narrated by Chief Inspector Amoah Richard, the complainants are officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

According to him, Abdallah Awal, age 47 (1st accused), is a herbalist and resides at Kojo Ashong near Amasaman.

Bin Musah Abdallah, age 27, (2nd accused), is unemployed and resides in Akim Oda old town.

Chief Amoah told the Court that, on June 2, 2020, at about 02:40 p.m., joint police and officials of the FDA gathered that someone was manufacturing herbal medicinal products and selling them to an unsuspecting public as a cure for COVID-19 at Kojo Ashong near Amasaman.

He said the team proceeded to the area and arrested Awal and Bin Musah in a house with 181 bottles of herbal medicine in brown plastic bottles labelled ‘Dr. Abdallah herbal clinic COVID-CURE (1).’

Additionally, he said, 90 similar products labelled ‘Dr. Abdallah Herbal Clinic COVID-CURE (2),’ six small containers containing ointments labelled ‘Dr. Abdallah herbal original ointment,’ 82 bottles of unlabeled brown plastic bottles of concoction, 72 unlabeled plain plastic bottles, 67 brown empty bottles, 102 labels of ‘Dr. Abdallah Herbal Clinic COVID-CURE (1)’, and 41 plastic bottle covers were retrieved from the accused person’s room.

Chief Inspector Amoah Richard told the Court that Awal, in his investigation caution statement, claimed ownership of all the exhibits and stated that Bin Musah was his errand boy who assisted him in advertising his product on social media, Facebook, and the market and also printed the product labels.

The Prosecutor said, during investigations, it was detected that ‘Al’ had not registered the products with the Food and Drugs Authority.

He said it was also revealed that the house that Awal used for the production had not been registered by the authority.

Bin Musah, in his investigation caution statement, admitted that he assisted Awal in printing the labels and also advertised the products on social media.

Graduate students nationwide prepare for protest over unpaid research allowances

Graduate students from various universities across Ghana are preparing to stage a nationwide demonstration to protest the government’s failure to disburse research allowances owed to them for over two years.

The Graduate Student Association of Ghana (Grasag), representing students from institutions like the University of Ghana, University of Health and Allied Sciences, and University of Professional Studies Accra, delivered a firm ultimatum to the government during a press conference held at the University of Ghana on April 10, 2024.

Angsongna Claudius, President of the University of Ghana GRASAG, addressed the media, stressing the urgent need for the government to respond within a week.

He cautioned that if no action is taken, they will proceed with the nationwide demonstration and continue holding press conferences to amplify their grievances.

Claudius emphasized the adverse impact of delayed allowances on their academic pursuits, urging all stakeholders to prioritize and support their research endeavors.

“We demand a response from the government within a week. In the absence of any response, we will be left with no choice but to organize a nationwide demonstration,”

“For approximately three years now, graduate students have been deprived of any governmental support to conduct research. This hindrance severely impedes our ability to contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge and national development.”

Despite promises to the contrary, the association voiced its deep displeasure with the Scholarship Secretariat’s ongoing delays in awarding research grants.

They urged the Secretariat’s director to take swift action to resolve the matter and carry out their duty of assisting Ghanaian research projects.

“We will never stop until we receive our rightful allowances, and we demand nothing less than what is owed to us,” Claudius said.

He criticized the government’s allocation of resources to projects like the National Cathedral, suggesting that priorities should be reevaluated to ensure adequate support for education and research.

” We will never stop until we are paid this abysmal, and we call for an increment any less than that we will accept again. As I said, there are a lot of policies, a lot of projects prioritise to the detriment of graduate education. We are in this country where we believe that we can bring heaven to Ghana, where we strongly believe that building a National Cathedral will solve every single problem in this country. As we speak the National Cathedral is now a breeding ground for mosquitoes. And going forward the prevalence of malaria is going to increase in this country.

The Graduate Student Association of Ghana urged the press and all stakeholders to rally behind their cause, highlighting the critical role of media in advocating for their rights.

With tensions escalating, the government faces mounting pressure to resolve the longstanding issue of unpaid research allowances known as bursaries, lest it sparks nationwide unrest among graduate students.

“I beg no vex you hear. Na only me they born oo. Na only me they born. I get 3 children, abi you go raise them? I get 3 children abi you go raise them. Bros I beg! He exclaimed. Oh Jesus! What is this?

  • What you didn’t know about having sex when you are on your period

What you didn’t know about having sex when you are on your period

‘Period sex’—just hearing the term might make you grimace. But hear us out.

Many people avoid period sex because they perceive it as unhygienic.

And, to be fair, it can be. The discomfort of menstrual cramps radiating through your lower back and thighs can be off-putting.

Yet, surprisingly, period sex can actually be enjoyable, sometimes even more so than usual.

On the recent episode of ‘Moans and Cuddles’ on GhanaWeb TV, host Patricia Rockson Hammond welcomed family and sex therapist Princessa Aggrey to explore how period sex can be a pleasurable experience, complete with some unexpected benefits.

How to get enjoyable sex during your period

    1. “I will recommend you have sex in the shower. If you’re scared of seeing blood, the water helps wash away the blood,” Princessa says.

In addition to the soothing feeling of water on your skin, bathing also plays a crucial role in maintaining hygiene. It can help alleviate menstrual cramps.

    2. “If you really want to enjoy period sex, don’t have it on the first and second days. It should be on the third and fourth days. That’s when you’ll enjoy it. Because when you bathe, the period won’t come down immediately.”

    Benefits

    Reduces cramps

The most annoying part of the period is the cramps associated with it. What if you learned that period sex can reduce cramps?

“It would reduce the cramps that you have and would also give you free lubrication,” Princessa adds.

    Helps with conception

Yes, sex during a lady’s period can help her conceive. However, this depends on whether the woman is the type that ovulates during her period.

“I’ve had cases where the couple didn’t have a child for some years, but when they tried period sex, the woman conceived, and when they tracked it, they found out that they had sex during the third and fourth days of seeing her period, and that was when the woman conceived,” Princessa explains.

In all, period sex may be icky, but you and your partner can work together to turn it into a wondrous experience.

Legal implications of sharing intimate footage

Three individuals accused of circulating a private video featuring broadcast journalist Serwaa Amihere are now facing legal action from the Ghana Police Service.

Identified as Edem Saviour Ketti, Candylove Kwakyewaa Ababio, and Henry Amponsah, also known as Henry Fitz, they are charged with various offenses including sexual extortion and the dissemination of private visual content.

While some social media users, including lawyer Maurice Amapaw, have called for the arrest of journalist Serwaa Amihere, who allegedly recorded the footage with her former partner, it raises questions about the legal implications of sharing intimate footage of others. This piece examines the relevant sections of the Cybersecurity Act 2020 in Ghana.

Non-consensual sharing of intimate image (Section 67).

“(1) A person shall not, with intent to, cause serious emotional distress, intentionally distribute or intentionally cause another person to distribute the intimate image or prohibited visual recording of another identifiable person without the consent of the person depicted in the intimate image and in respect of which, there was a reasonable expectation of privacy both at the time of the creation of the image or visual recording and at the time the offence was committed.

“(2) A person who contravenes subsection (1) commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than three years.

“(3) For the purpose of this section, “serious emotional distress” includes any intentional conduct that results in mental reactions such as fright, nervousness, grief, anxiety, worry, mortification, shock, humiliation and indignity, as well as physical pain.”

The law further explained sanctions on threats to distribute prohibited intimate images or visual recordings of another

Threat to distribute prohibited intimate images or visual recordings (Section 68).

“(1) A person shall not threaten another person to distribute a prohibited intimate image or visual recording of that person in a way that would cause that other person distress reasonably arising in all the circumstances and the threat is made in a way that would cause that other person fear, reasonably arising in all the circumstances, of the threat being carried out.

“(2) A person who contravenes subsection (1) commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than three years.”

    Serwaa Amihere and Henry Fitz

Serwaa Amihere and Henry Fitz have been in social media trends for the last few days. This is after a video depicting Serwaa Amihere in a bedroom with a man, identified as Henry Fitz, circulated widely on social media platforms.

As per reports, the ordeal started when Serwaa Amihere’s makeup artist was contacted and asked to relay a message to the journalist to pay GH₵5,000 in order to stop the circulation of explicit photos. Subsequent threats escalated, with an unidentified individual demanding a larger sum of GH₵20,000.

Despite Serwaa Amihere’s compliance with the initial demand, the accused published the video. Following these events, Amihere reported the matter to the authorities, leading to the arrest of Edem Saviour Ketti. Efforts are underway to apprehend Henry Fitz, who remains at large as investigations into the matter continue.

  • AfCFTA’s guided trade initiative includes 700+ Ghanaian products

AfCFTA’s guided trade initiative includes 700+ Ghanaian products

In then course the State visit of President Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the significant progress made by Ghanaian products under the Guided Trade Initiative of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that since the launch of the Guided Trade Initiative in October 2022, over 700 AfCFTA self-defined products from Ghana, including cosmetics, processed foods, coconut oil, Shea butter, and garments, have been introduced and targeted by the AfCFTA market.

Addressing a Joint Press conference following bilateral discussions with President Embaló and his ministerial team from Guinea-Bissau, who are visiting Ghana, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the transformative impact of such initiatives, “will give us the best opportunity to derive maximum benefit from our abundant natural resources and from our participation in the AfCFTA, and help bring progress and prosperity to our people.”

He expressed confidence that Ghana and seven other nations’ participation in the GTI of the AfCFTA would spur intra-African trade, enhance the competitive advantage of participating countries, and strengthen their position in the global market.

Furthermore, he noted that through the GTI, Ghana has already made significant strides in penetrating the East African market, particularly in Kenya and Tanzania.

The Guided Trade Initiative aims to facilitate meaningful commercial exchanges and assess the operational, institutional, legal, and trade policy landscape under the AfCFTA, which seeks to unify a market of approximately 1.3 billion people with a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion.

President Akufo-Addo and his counterpart from Guinea-Bissau have been exploring avenues to further enhance political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between their countries and promote cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

He said President Embaló is in Ghana to “reaffirm the ties of cooperation and the bonds of friendship that Guinea Bissau attaches to her relations with Ghana.”

In addition to discussing the manifold benefits available under the AfCFTA, the two leaders explored comprehensive strategies to attract both domestic and foreign investment opportunities into their respective countries. They emphasized the importance of bolstering cooperation and partnership in their development endeavors.

Aside the shared commitment to the promotion of a fairer world and addressing global issues relating to the 17 goals of the United Nations, they also agreed to intensify advocacy towards the “urgent necessity for the reform of the United Nations, especially of its Security Council” and reiterated their joint commitment to Common African Position on UN reform based on the Ezulwini consensus.

He further observed that during additional discussions conducted in a constructive and friendly atmosphere, emphasis was placed on various sectors including education, trade and industry, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, environment, science and technology, petroleum and hydrocarbon activities, and tourism.

On cooperation in the development of their respective fisheries sectors, he explained that, “the Joint Venture Partnership between private companies of both countries, granting of licenses to Ghanaian fishing vessels, to fish in Guinea-Bissau waters, training of Guinea Bissau personnel in Ghana Fisheries school and the Regional Maritime Academy in electronics, exchange of information on all aspects of fishing, technology, assistance and cooperation from Ghana, in the development of artisanal fishing in Bissau and signing of bilateral fishing agreement between the two counties to safeguard among others the lives of Ghanaians who work in the fishing industry in Bissau. “

In light of this, Ghana and Guinea-Bissau have mutually decided to organize the inaugural session of the Permanent Joint Commission for cooperation later this year. This commission will establish the legal and institutional framework necessary for addressing the trade and investment interests of both countries.

Additionally, discussions were held regarding the activities of Ghana’s contingent of approximately 101 soldiers, who are part of the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission stationed in Bissau since the attempted coup of February 1, 2022. Their duty involves providing security to the President and the Presidential palace, a matter that was also addressed during the talks.

Our cocoa beans will soon be cited for contamination due to illegal mining – Former EPA boss

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Henry Kokofu, expressed concern over the detrimental effects of illegal mining, commonly referred to as ‘galamsey,’ on cocoa production in the nation.

He highlighted that aside from encroaching on the lands of local farmers, the illicit activities of illegal miners are also contaminating the vital commodity – cocoa.

Kokofu warned that Ghana’s cocoa could potentially face a ban from the global market due to the contamination of cocoa beans.

During a public lecture at Kumasi Technical University, Mr. Kokofu conveyed these sentiments.

“It is important to note that the cocoa industry which has been the backbone of our economy is in dire straits because of illegal mining. Apart from depriving the farmlands and making it unavailable for farming, cocoa is being contaminated and very soon, the world market will come after us and cite contamination in our cocoa beans and that will be a very bad story for us as a people.”

Consequently, he urged the government to promptly investigate and resolve this issue.

Meanwhile, the price of cocoa beans has been increased from GH¢20,928 per tonne to GH¢33,120.00 for the remainder of the 2023/2024 cocoa season.

According to COCOBOD, this adjustment aims to boost the income of cocoa farmers and deter the smuggling of cocoa beans to neighboring countries.

  • Revise 41-year-old law that established GNPC -PIAC urges

Revise 41-year-old law that established GNPC -PIAC urges

The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) is advocating for a significant overhaul of the 41-year-old legislation that established the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

The committee contends that the Provisional National Defence Council Law (PNDCL) 64, which brought GNPC into existence in 1983, no longer corresponds to the dynamics of Ghana’s flourishing upstream sector.

In its most recent issue paper published on its website, PIAC emphasizes the necessity of updating the legislation to tackle GNPC’s challenges, enhance its efficiency within the sector, and align it with contemporary international industry standards.

The paper said “The law was established at a time when there was no petroleum activity and GNPC was used as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to begin prospecting for economic activities in the industry.

“The industry has since that time evolved into a thriving one with three production fields (Jubilee, TEN, Sankofa), as well as new fields coming on stream (Jubilee South-East) and several other offshore explorations at various stages of development and onshore exploration (Voltaian Basin).”

According to PIAC, the revision of the law would fortify the core operations of GNPC by streamlining activities to improve efficiency, productivity, and reliability, while concurrently reducing costs and emissions.

PIAC asserts that this revision would also facilitate GNPC’s expansion into emerging energy sectors, such as renewables and low-carbon technologies. This diversification aims to capitalize on existing capabilities, access new markets, and enhance environmental, social, and governance performance.

Furthermore, PIAC emphasizes that the review process would transition GNPC into an integrated energy provider, offering comprehensive energy solutions such as electricity generation, distribution, and energy management. This transformation is crucial to meet evolving market demands and broaden the corporation’s footprint in the energy sector.

Another pressing issue highlighted by PIAC is GNPC’s reliance on time-limited funding from the Petroleum Holding Fund (PHF). The committee cautions that GNPC must develop strategic plans to ensure long-term financial sustainability.

As per the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA), GNPC’s access to PHF funds will cease 15 years after the start of commercial production, expected to conclude in 2026. PIAC criticizes delays in releasing PHF funds to GNPC, leading to challenges in meeting financial obligations to joint venture partners and affecting the corporation’s financial performance.

PIAC notes that GNPC’s balance sheet is encumbered by substantial guarantees and receivables owed by the government and state-owned entities, totaling over $1.14 billion. Urgent measures are needed to recover these amounts to enable the corporation to operate effectively.

Additionally, PIAC expresses concerns about GNPC’s governance structure, where the board’s appointments are solely controlled by the Energy Minister. This structure, according to PIAC, exposes GNPC to political influence, potentially compromising technical competence and strategic direction.

In light of these challenges, PIAC emphasizes the critical need to revise the legal framework and enhance institutional capacity to enable GNPC to operate as a robust standalone operator. Failure to address these issues, PIAC warns, could hinder Ghana’s ability to maximize its hydrocarbon resources amidst the global energy transition.

Labor unions issue threat to stop work if govt fails to transfer pension funds

Nine labor unions’ members have issued a warning of potential industrial action scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2024, due to the government’s failure to transfer their pension arrears to their fund managers.

Isaac Bampoe Addo, Chairman of The Forum, conveyed their dissatisfaction during a press briefing. He stated that despite their efforts, the government has neglected to address their concerns, leading to their resolve to initiate a strike.

“The Forum met and raised issues that we wanted to be addressed by the Minister of Pensions. We wanted among others, transfer of past credit by SSNIT to the public sector pension scheme… The Minister has not acknowledged our letter so we shall proceed with our strike. So from here, we are going to notify the National Labour Commission about our strike,” he said.

The group known as The Forum comprises members from the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT Ghana), Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Government Hospitals Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA), Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), and Ghana Association of Certified Anesthesis.

  • Cyber threats surge in financial sector – IMF

Cyber threats surge in financial sector – IMF

Global Financial Stability Report by the IMF for April 2024, has it that companies have historically faced relatively moderate direct losses from cyberattacks, but some have encountered significantly heavier burdens.

For instance, the US credit reporting agency Equifax paid over $1 billion in penalties following a major data breach in 2017, affecting approximately 150 million consumers.

The report highlights an escalating risk of severe losses from cyber incidents, potentially leading to funding challenges for companies and even endangering their financial stability. These extreme losses have surged to $2.5 billion since 2017, quadrupling in size. Additionally, indirect losses such as reputational harm or security enhancements are substantially higher.

The financial sector is particularly vulnerable to cyber risk due to the vast amounts of sensitive data and transactions it handles, making it a prime target for criminals aiming to steal funds or disrupt economic operations. Attacks on financial institutions constitute nearly one-fifth of the total, with banks being the most susceptible.

Incidents within the financial sector pose a threat to financial and economic stability by undermining confidence in the financial system, disrupting essential services, or triggering cascading effects on other institutions.

For instance, a significant incident at a financial institution could erode trust and potentially lead to market turmoil or bank runs. While no major “cyber runs” have occurred thus far, analysis suggests minor yet somewhat persistent deposit outflows at smaller US banks following cyberattacks.

Cyber incidents disrupting critical services such as payment networks could severely impact economic activity. For instance, a December attack on the Central Bank of Lesotho disrupted the national payment system, halting transactions by domestic banks.

  • What is Akufo-Addo’s motive of sacking SSNIT, GRA bosses who worked diligently

What is Akufo-Addo’s motive of sacking SSNIT, GRA bosses who worked diligently

The recent series of dismissals and appointments by President Akufo-Addo, involving the removal of Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang as Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah as Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has raised questions about the president’s motives.

President of IMANI-Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, expressed concerns regarding the lack of transparency and explanation surrounding these decisions, particularly in response to the sudden termination of the SSNIT Director-General’s appointment.

In a Facebook post, Cudjoe underscored the significant accomplishments achieved under the leadership of both the outgoing Commissioner General of GRA and the SSNIT Director-General, particularly in the areas of pension fund protection and financial performance improvement.

“First, it was the GRA board and its Commissioner that got axed crudely by an executive fiat – no reasons given. However, under the previous board, Ghana has, for the first time, attained 14% tax to GDP ( from 11-12% for many years), a critical milestone under Ghana’s IMF programme. Now, SSNIT’s Director-General, who has 9 months left of his tenure, has been sacked by the President with immediate effect. There are no reasons given for terminating the DG.

“The DG’s foresight and a bit of luck prevented our pensions from the unforgiving jaws of the cantankerous debt restructuring programme (DDEP) by holding minimal government paper. The DG’s leadership has been unrepentant in chasing government arrears and expanding coverage to the self-employed. The leadership has managed to divest SSNIT’s ownership in hotels to prevent haemorrhaging pension funds. Crucially, SSNIT has been scaling down on real estate investment, which has never been profitable but beloved by politicians with control over SSNIT,” he pointed out.

Observing the replacements of the two officials with individuals perceived as politically compliant, Cudjoe sounded the alarm regarding the potential risks associated with such appointments. He cautioned against appointing individuals solely based on political allegiance, emphasizing the importance of competence and independence in leadership roles.

Cudjoe’s concerns extend beyond the immediate implications for SSNIT and GRA. He questions the President’s overarching agenda, speculating whether these actions aim to consolidate political support or facilitate undisclosed contracts in the final hours of the President’s tenure.

He believes these concerns have widespread repercussions for the country, the government, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“The replacements in these two institutions, GRA and SSNIT, are seen by many as very pliant political obedients. And that is dangerous. What exactly is the President’s grand plan? Consolidate his base or push through curious contracts this last hour? These whimsical acts without explanation actually hurt the country, his government, party and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he wrote.

  • Who is the new SSNIT Director-General, Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo?

Who is the new SSNIT Director-General, Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo?

On April 9th, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo named son of Yaw Osafo-Maafo, who is the Senior Presidential Advisor, Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, as the new Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Kofi had previously served as Deputy Director-General for seven years.

He succeeds John Ofori-Tenkorang, who was dismissed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Here is a profile of Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo

With a career spanning 25 years in executive positions within investment management and investment banking, Kofi brings extensive experience, notably spending 22 years in the United Kingdom.

During this period, he held key advisory roles with prominent UK-based global investment management firms, particularly focusing on equity investments in the mining and oil sectors across Global Emerging Markets, Europe, and North America.

As Deputy Director-General, Investment and Development of SSNIT, Ghana’s national pension fund, Kofi led the restructuring of the multi-asset class investment portfolio.

Previously, he served as a Senior Investment Manager at Pictet Asset Management, the investment management arm of The Pictet Group, overseeing investments in mining, oil & gas, and material sectors.

Kofi’s career began at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, followed by roles at Aviva Investors, HSBC Asset Management, Halbis Capital, and F&C Asset Management.

He also held a position as Investment Banker/Director at the investment banking arm of Unicredit Bank in London, with analytical oversight for European Oil Exploration and Production companies.

Furthermore, Kofi has provided consultancy services, evaluating iron ore investment opportunities in West Africa.

Currently, Kofi sits on the Board of CalBank Limited, a leading indigenous bank in Ghana, contributing to its Audit and Risk Management Subcommittees.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics from Queen Mary, University of London, and a MA in International Business and Finance from the University of Reading. Kofi is an Associate Member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals.

  • SSNIT saved GHS480m, NSS saved GHS356m due to digitalization – Bawumia

SSNIT saved GHS480m, NSS saved GHS356m due to digitalization – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia highlighted the significant cost savings brought about by digitalization in Ghana.

He cited examples such as the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), which saved GHC480 million by removing 29,000 ghost pensioners, and the National Service Secretariat, which eliminated 44,000 ghost workers, resulting in savings of over GHC356 million.

Speaking at the launch of LEADing Justice in Accra, a strategic framework document outlining the Chief Justice’s vision for the Judiciary and Judicial Service of Ghana, Vice President Bawumia expressed his satisfaction that digitization was a central element of the Chief Justice’s vision.

He commended Ghana for its rapid progress in digitization and praised the Chief Justice for bringing renewed focus, dynamism, and energy to the Judiciary since assuming office the previous year.

“It is my hope that today’s event will herald a new dawn in the history of our judicial system propelled by efficiency, excellence, knowledge, and integrity.”

For instance, he noted that from independence until 2017, only four percent of the adult population possessed Tax Identification Numbers, as seen in the case of 2014.

“When we digitalized and gave everyone a Ghana Card and made the decision to make the Ghana Card Tax Identification number, we increased the proportion of individuals with Tax ID, the number moved from four per cent to 85 per cent just like that.

“We have also seen through digitalization that you can deal with corruption. We have eliminated ghost workers at the Controller and Accountant General Office just by using the Ghana Cards because the ghosts don’t have fingerprints.”

He emphasized that the judiciary’s reputation relies on key principles such as law, ethics, asset management, due process, and digitization, all of which represent significant advancements in the judicial system.

Having spearheaded the introduction of a case tracking system within the criminal justice sector in 2018, the Vice President expressed his satisfaction with the transformative impact of the e-system on the administration of justice.

He urged all Ghanaians to rally behind the Chief Justice’s vision, enabling the judiciary to fulfill its objectives, mandates, and targets for the betterment of the nation.

“As a government, we shall continue to do more for the Judicial Service to ramp up the other parts of the E-Justice system of the court and beyond the High Courts in Accra.

“We shall continue to invest in court infrastructure, residential accommodation for judges and magistrates and general re-tooling of the human resources of the institution to improve justice delivery. It is in our interest as a country to do so.”

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame, characterized the launch as groundbreaking, as it marked the Chief Justice’s inaugural presentation of her vision for justice delivery in Ghana.

He emphasized that this event provided an unprecedented opportunity for ordinary citizens, from whom justice emanates, to gauge the Chief Justice’s performance fairly and accurately.

  • Four early signs of skin cancer you need to Know

Four early signs of skin cancer you need to Know

Detecting skin cancer early is crucial, but the typical signs may not always be obvious.

In addition to changes in moles or freckles, there are subtle indicators that warrant attention.

By recognizing these early signs, you can take proactive steps to safeguard your skin.

    1. Spots on the skin

A new spot on your skin is worth keeping an eye on, especially if it looks different from others around it. But there’s more to watch out for.

Have you noticed a sore that doesn’t heal? Or perhaps a patch of skin that’s consistently itchy, crusty, or bleeds a bit? These are not typical skin behaviors and deserve a closer look, possibly by a professional.

They could be early signs of skin cancer, flying under the radar of our usual mole-monitoring routine.

    2. Change in skin colour

We often hear about checking for moles that change in size or shape, but what about color? An early sign of skin cancer can be a mole or spot that undergoes a significant color change.

This doesn’t just mean getting darker; it could also turn red, blue, or even white. Varied colors within one mole are a particularly loud alarm bell.

    3. Change in texture

Another sign that doesn’t get much airtime is a change in texture. If a spot on your skin suddenly feels rough, scaly, or develops a raised border, it’s not something to brush off.

Skin cancer can manifest in the texture of your skin before it becomes visually alarming. Paying attention to how your skin feels, not just how it looks, can lead you to catch something amiss early on.

    4. Dark spots on nails

An often-overlooked area for early signs of skin cancer is under your fingernails or toenails. A dark streak or a spot under a nail that wasn’t caused by an injury should raise questions.

While it might be easy to dismiss as a bruise, if it doesn’t go away or starts to change, it could be an early warning sign of melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

    Vigilance is key

Recognizing these early signs of skin cancer can significantly increase your chances of successful treatment.

It’s not just about looking for the obvious changes but also tuning into the subtler shifts in your skin’s appearance and texture. Regular check-ups with a dermatologist can also help catch anything you might miss.

Remember, being proactive and vigilant about your skin health isn’t just smart; it could be life-saving.

  • Are you content with your relationship?

Are you content with your relationship?

Human nature is negatively bias, selfish and competitive.

We often prioritize our own desires and needs, overlooking the positive aspects of our relationships.

Instead of focusing on what’s working well, we tend to dwell on the shortcomings, always yearning for more regardless of the source.

This tendency is exacerbated in our materialistic society, where one’s worth is often equated with possessions. As a result, many struggle to find contentment and overlook the blessings bestowed upon them by a higher power.

Consider a scenario where a woman contemplates leaving her partner due to his lack of time for her. However, upon reflection, she realizes that his demanding job is the cause of his limited availability. Despite this, he remains honest and faithful, providing her with financial security, gifts, travel opportunities, a comfortable home, and romantic gestures whenever possible. It’s during counseling sessions that she begins to appreciate all she has.

Being content doesn’t mean lacking ambition; rather, it involves gratitude for what one has and patience for what may come. It stems from a deep acceptance of life’s circumstances.

A heart contented is akin to a tranquil sea amidst turbulent storms.

    The danger of discontentment

A discontented lover views everything through a negative lens, perpetually dissatisfied with their relationship. They tend to downplay positive experiences while magnifying minor grievances, leading them to question their partner’s suitability.

Such a partner overlooks potential opportunities and fails to appreciate the value in small gestures. In doing so, they inadvertently sabotage their chances for success.

Discontentment spreads like a contagious germ, affecting every aspect of life including work, friendships, and especially marriage. When one partner harbors discontent, it infects the other, leading to bitterness, frustration, selfishness, hostility, and an unwillingness to forgive. This toxic cycle can spell the beginning of the end for a relationship.

    Finding contentment

Contentment cannot be found in your partner or material possessions; it emanates from within and is nurtured by gratitude and faith.

Begin by recognizing the inherent goodness in yourself and your partner. Self-love is fundamental to a healthy relationship, fostering peace and commitment.

Set realistic expectations, understanding that perfection is unattainable. Embrace your differences and approach challenges with honesty, appreciation, and forgiveness.

Avoid comparing your relationship to others, as appearances can be deceiving. Focus on nurturing your own bond rather than seeking greener pastures elsewhere.

Accept your financial situation with contentment, recognizing that money alone cannot buy happiness. Work diligently and trust in God’s provision, knowing that true wealth lies in relationships and inner peace.

    Cont

Both partners must cultivate contentment within themselves for a successful relationship. In a study conducted in the United States, 80 percent of respondents cited mutual contentment as the key to their marital happiness.

Rather than yearning for wealth, prioritize the richness of your relationship. True happiness can be found in the quality of your connection, not material abundance. It’s better to have a little and live in harmony than to possess great wealth amidst turmoil.

Embrace contentment as a source of great fulfillment. When you have food, shelter, and clothing, acknowledge God’s provision and be grateful. Count your blessings and recognize the abundance that surrounds you.

Adapt to both prosperity and adversity, maintaining gratitude and avoiding bitterness or selfishness. A thankful heart attracts blessings and enriches your relationship.

Appreciate your partner for who they are and cherish the love you share. Give thanks in all circumstances, including the joy found in your relationship.

Nana Kwame Amo made Otumfuo’s new traditional bodyguard

Nana Kwame Amo has been appointed as the new Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene, the prestigious traditional bodyguard of the Asantehene, reports adomonline.com.

Formerly known as Sledge Bonnah in his private life, Nana Kwame Amo assumes this esteemed position with a profound understanding of its cultural significance.

The Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene role, deeply rooted in the history of the Asante kingdom, holds immense cultural and symbolic importance within the Asante tradition.

According to the report, a central aspect of this position is the Tromoo Akwasi gun, carefully selected by Otumfoɔ Opoku Ware II and named after the mythical trɔmo, serving as the foundation for this revered firearm.

One distinguishing feature of the Tromoo Akwasi gun is its use of abadayɛ, the foetus of trɔmo, for its ntoa, symbolizing the intricate connection between Asante traditions and spiritual significance embedded within their regalia.

During ceremonial processions, gun-bearers meticulously carry their firearms, demonstrating respect and adherence to ceremonial protocols, as outlined in the report.

During the “trane” ritual, where a newly enstooled king affirms his readiness to defend Asanteman, the doku agyapɔmaa (gun) is fired three times, symbolizing a deep commitment to protect the kingdom.

Nana Kwame Amo’s appointment carries significant historical lineage. His late grandfather, who previously held this esteemed position, was not only the Asantehene’s father but also the elder brother of Otumfuo’s father, highlighting the traditional succession practices within the Asante kingdom.

Prior to assuming his role, Nana Kwame Amo underwent the sacred “som kahyire” rite at the revered “Akrafie so” within the Manhyia Palace.

According to the report, this private ritual, overseen by the Asantehene himself, aimed to enlighten Nana Kwame Amo about the potent powers and responsibilities associated with the Tromoo Akwasi regalia.

Minister for Youth and Sports eyes Ghana as host for 2026 Commonwealth Games

Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Usif, has disclosed Ghana’s consideration to host the upcoming Commonwealth Games scheduled for 2026.

He expressed confidence in the country’s ability to host the Olympic-style event involving all Commonwealth nations.

In an exclusive interview on GHONE TV’s sports show, “The Game” with Benjamin Yamoah and Monica Bukari, Mustapha Usif highlighted Ghana’s favorable position to host the Commonwealth Games, citing the successful hosting of the African Games.

Usif further revealed the recent visit of the President of the Commonwealth Games to Ghana.

Mustapha Ussif revealed that the President of the Commonwealth Games was in Ghana recently.

“In fact, the President of the Commonwealth Games was in Ghana recently, and we held several meetings with him. He visited our facilities for the African Games and was impressed. They want an African nation to host the games.”

He further revealed Ghana is well positioned to host the rest of the Commonwealth nations in the Commonwealth Games after successfully hosting the rest of Africa in the recently ended African Games.

“We have the existing facilities to host the Commonwealth Games, plus it won’t cost us much to host the games as compared to how much it cost us to host the African games if we decide to”.

“The Commonwealth Games secretariat even gives the host nation money unlike the African Games where the host solely funds every expenditure for the games, so Ghana can host it if we decide to do it,” Mustapha Ussif said.

  • $24m recovered in corruption probe of suspended poverty minister in Nigeria

$24m recovered in corruption probe of suspended poverty minister in Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has made progress in an ongoing corruption probe involving a suspended minister, recovering 30 billion naira ($24 million; £19 million).

According to the financial watchdog, the funds were traced to over 50 bank accounts.

The suspended minister in question is Betta Edu, who holds the portfolio for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. She was initially suspended in January following allegations of diverting $640,000 of public funds into a personal bank account.

President Bola Tinubu initiated an investigation into her ministry in response to these allegations.

Dr. Edu, aged 37, has denied any wrongdoing. Her office clarified that she authorized the transfer into a personal account, not under her name, for the purpose of implementing grants for vulnerable groups.

The EFCC, during its nearly six weeks of investigation, has uncovered “many angles” to examine in the case.

“As it is now, we are investigating over 50 bank accounts that we have traced money into. That is no child’s play. That’s a big deal,” its chairman Ola Olukoyede said in the latest edition of the agency’s monthly e-magazine, EFCC Alert.

He appealed to Nigerians seeking resolution to allow the agency sufficient time to complete its investigation diligently.

“We are exploring so many discoveries that we have stumbled upon in our investigation. If it is about seeing people in jail, well let them wait, everything has a process to follow,” he said.

The EFCC chairman gave an assurance that the recovered funds were “already in the coffers of the federal government”.

The suspension of a minister is a rare occurrence in Nigeria.

  • Ghanaian cocoa farmers earn $47 more per tonne than Ivorian counterparts – COCOBOD

Ghanaian cocoa farmers earn $47 more per tonne than Ivorian counterparts – COCOBOD

Amid public criticism accusing the government, via the Ghana Cocoa Board, of undercutting cocoa farmers in cocoa bean pricing, COCOBOD’s Public Relations Officer, Fiifi Boafo, has refuted these allegations.

Boafo stated that Ghanaian cocoa farmers receive $47 more per tonne compared to their Ivorian counterparts.

Speaking on Citi TV’s Point of View program, Boafo emphasized that the government did not exploit cocoa farmers when it announced an increase in farmgate prices for cocoa beans.

“The difference between how much Ghana is paying cocoa farmers, and the Ivorians are paying cocoa farmers, we’re paying $47 more to our Ghanaian farmers compared to Ivorian farmers,” he said.

He added that, “the people who told us to replicate what the Ivorians have done now say that what we have done is wrong and we are cheating the cocoa farmers. If I’m asked to do something someone is doing and I do the same, do you accuse me of doing the wrong thing, no.”

The Public Relations Officer of COCOBOD also highlighted that the government has consistently provided cocoa farmers with an improved producer price over the years.

He referenced benefits such as fertilizer subsidies that Ghanaian cocoa farmers receive during the crop season.

“Last year [2023] due to the exchange rate, the Ivorians’ price got better than Ghana’s. But the government in the last 7 years, with the exception of last year [2023] has paid better price to cocoa farmers as compared to the Ivorian counterparts,” Mr Boafo stated.

“In Cote D’Ivoire, there’s nothing like cooling down periods for cocoa farmers. There’s nothing like a subsidized fertilizer given to cocoa farmers. All interventions COCOBOD is giving to farmers in Ghana, the Ivorian counterparts are not enjoying same,” he added.

The price of cocoa beans has been increased from GH¢20,928 per tonne to GH¢33,120.00 for the remainder of the 2023/2024 cocoa season.

COCOBOD has stated that the raise aims to improve the income of cocoa farmers and deter the smuggling of cocoa beans to neighboring countries.

However, some Ghanaians, including cocoa farmers, have expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that the 58 percent increment is insufficient.

  • “You are entering a sinking ship” – Mensa Otabil citizens traveling to Europe

“You are entering a sinking ship” – Mensa Otabil citizens traveling to Europe

General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has issued a stern warning to those contemplating migration to Europe.

In a recent sermon titled “The Great Commission 1: Go,” part of a three-part series, Otabil referenced the biblical passage in Matthew 28:16-20, where Jesus instructs his disciples to spread the Gospel. He highlighted a profound shift in global evangelization dynamics.

Addressing his congregation, Otabil emphasized a significant reversal in the dissemination of Christianity.

He said Europe once the epicenter of Christianity, is now experiencing a phenomenon of ‘reverse evangelization,’ with Africa emerging as the new hub of spreading the Gospel”

“We in Africa have become mostly those who have the Gospel, and they in Europe have become those who don’t have the Gospel.

So those who brought us the Gospel are now empty of the Gospel so there is reverse evangelization taking place all over the world from Africa to the rest of the world, it is no longer from Europe to Africa . It’s now Africa to the world because Europe has become post-Christian . Until probably about the last 60 -50 years, Europe was the main center of Christianity, that is how all the main Christian ideas came about “

Otabil, drawing from biblical admonitions, warned against neglecting spiritual roots amid prosperity. He noted Europe’s overlooking of its foundational values, foreseeing its decline. Describing Europe as a “sinking ship,” he highlighted its imminent peril.

“God also warned the Israelites, remember when you are wealthy and strong you do not forget the Lord your God.”

They have forgotten the God who made them who they are and if you look at the Global world, Europe, and the Western world, they are going down very fast. Those of you who are running there, are running into a sinking ship . It’s going down, I mean it is just a matter of time.”

Foreseeing the decline of Western supremacy, Otabil attributed it to what he labeled “apostasy” – a departure from religious faith. He emphasized that civilization, as commonly understood, is not the remedy; instead, it serves as the root of their downfall.

“America will not be the superpower again, and Europe will not be the superpower again.

They are just going down and the main reason is they have forgotten the source of their help. We think that it is civilization, but the Bible calls it apostasy”

Otabil further urged a reimagining of missionary efforts, according to him Africans now have to spread Christianity to the rest of the world

“So when we think about the Gospel, we don’t think about people bringing the Gospel to Africa, we are thinking of Africa taking the Gospel to the rest of the world…When Jesus said go to the nations he meant every group of people who do not know the Gospel, go to them”

Otabil’s sermon serves as a sobering reminder of the spiritual landscape and its implications for global dynamics.

  • Asaki calls on Bawumia to set timelines for exchange rate policy

Asaki calls on Bawumia to set timelines for exchange rate policy

Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association, Sampson Asaki Awingobit, has challenged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, to provide specific timelines for the implementation of his fixed exchange rate policy. This policy aims to ease forex pressure encountered by traders.

Dr. Bawumia, the incumbent Vice President, has outlined that this initiative, designed to improve the business environment at ports, will also help prevent the loss of port traffic to neighboring countries.

Addressing attendees during a town hall meeting with the Pharmaceutical Society and other Pharma Groups, the Vice President emphasized the importance of businesses, including those within the pharmacy sector, developing a competitive advantage to stimulate economic growth.

“We’re going to change the duty structure and go into more of a flat specific duty. If you have a 40-footer container, you know how much you are paying in cedis. So, you take the exchange rate out of the matter and deal with it.

“We are also going to make sure that our duties in ports by policy cannot be higher than in Lome, which is our competitor. And right now, there’s a lot of diversion of containers to Lome because ours are higher.”

However, in an interview on the New York-based Adinkra Radio Morning Show, Sampson Asaki Awingobit urged Dr. Bawumia to specify the exact timeline for implementing the policy once he assumes the presidency.

“Dr. Bawumia and the NPP said a lot of things before they came to power. They said they will make the Tema Port like the Lome Port but what did we see when they came to power, taxes upon taxes.”

Dr. Bawumia should give us timeless for implementation of the policies he’s trumpeting. He should tell us if he will implement it in his first, second or third year budget. He should make it clear to us. This time around we will not be deceived as we were in 2016 and 2020. The taxes he claims he will abolish when he comes to power, I bet you he can never abolish them. I challenge him, he should abolish them during the mid-year budget review in July.”

“Prior to coming to power in 2016, the NPP said they are business friendly people and they listen to business people and traders. They promised to take us out of taxes to production, and we were excited by that and Ghanaians went ahead to vote for them massively and Akufo-Addo won with over one million votes. Seven years down the line, all what we see is myriad of taxes introduced by this government which is killing many businesses some of which have folded up or relocated to neighboring countries,” he told Host Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang.

Ghanaian actress Salma Mumin has shared some of the obstacles she faced during her time at Senior High School, which nearly derailed her ambitions.

In her recollection, she mentioned attending Insaaniyya Senior High School and residing in the boarding house for a significant period until she encountered a problem with the school authorities.

Initially, her experience at the school was peaceful, but things took a turn when she fell under the influence of a friend who led her astray, leading to her expulsion from the boarding house.

However, she did not divulge the exact circumstances that led her off track.

“In Senior High School (SHS), I was given an indefinite suspension because I associated myself with a friend [who got her into trouble]. I was expelled from the boarding house, so I had to stay around the area to commute to school and write my final exams,” she told Deloris Frimpong Manso during The Delay Show, monitored by GhanaWeb.

She went ahead to give more insight into how she was able to complete SHS despite the difficulties she encountered.

“I stayed with my auntie to complete my primary and JHS education. From there, I continued to attend Insaaniyya SHS. Since then, I never returned home again; I became independent. I was in boarding school from my first year to my third year.

“I stayed in the school for extra classes during vacation; my mother was funding my education all that time. I can’t recall the exact year I completed SHS because it has been a while…” she told Delay when asked about her educational background.

Salma is now into acting and is proud of her accomplishments. She is also an entrepreneur and a brand influencer.
