2013: Mahama hot over “GHC47m Guinea Fowls flew to Burkina” scandal

President John Mahama has instructed the Minister responsible for Development Authorities at the Presidency, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, to provide the Chief of Staff with a detailed report on the GH¢47 million Guinea fowl and afforestation projects within a two-week timeframe.

The Asongtaba guinea fowl project has utilized GH¢15 million, while GH¢32 million has been allocated to the afforestation project, yet there is no evidence of the planted trees.

A statement from the Presidency, signed by Dr. Raymond A. Atuguba, Executive Secretary to the President, announced that the report would be compiled in collaboration with the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) Board to address concerns regarding the controversial projects in the Northern region.

This directive followed pressure from a civil society group called Transparency and Accountability Forum (TAF), which challenged President Mahama to clarify his connection to the AGAAMS Group of Companies. The AGAAMS Group, which includes Rlg and Asongtaba, is working with SADA on the multi-million Ghana cedi guinea fowl and afforestation initiatives in the SADA area.

The Presidency’s statement was issued in response to a DAILY GUIDE article about TAF’s claims linking President Mahama to the AGAAMS Group. The civil society group suggested that the AGAAMS group was benefiting from favorable treatment from the NDC government, citing the allocation of lucrative projects and government contracts to the company.

President Mahama, however, refuted the allegations in a statement released on Sunday, denying any ownership of shares in the AGAAMS Group or any business partnership with the Group.

‘This is to clarify that President John Dramani Mahama has no personal or business interest in AGAAMS Group of Companies,’ the statement said, adding that ‘the Chief of Staff (Prosper Douglas Bani) has already directed the Minister at the Presidency in-Charge of Development Authorities to, in consultation with the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) Board, present a report on the projects that were the subject matter of the said publication’.

ANC loses legal battle against Jacob Zuma-backed party in South Africa

The African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa has suffered a setback in its attempt to block a newly established party, supported by former President Jacob Zuma, from participating in the upcoming general election in May.

The uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party, named after the disbanded armed wing of the ANC, has garnered attention due to Mr. Zuma’s endorsement, potentially impacting the ANC’s electoral fortunes.

The ANC’s legal challenge, arguing that the MK party failed to meet official registration criteria, was dismissed by the electoral court.

Following the ruling, jubilant supporters of the MK party, adorned in green attire, celebrated outside the court premises.

The ANC has expressed its acceptance of the court’s decision and pledged to adhere to it. A party spokesperson clarified that their legal action was not intended to suppress the MK party but rather to ensure compliance with registration laws.

However, the ANC has initiated separate legal proceedings against the MK party, alleging copyright infringement.

Amidst the electoral landscape, opinion polls suggest a decline in the ANC’s vote share, potentially dipping below 50% for the first time in thirty years in the upcoming election.

Mr. Zuma’s support base, particularly in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal, poses a challenge to the ANC’s dominance. Despite not founding the MK party, Zuma endorsed it in December, leading to his suspension from the ANC.

Zuma’s political trajectory from serving in the ANC’s MK to presidency, marred by corruption allegations, underscores the shifting dynamics within South African politics.

Togo adopts new constitution to reduce powers of the president

Lawmakers in Togo have endorsed a new constitution, marking a significant shift from a presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.

Under the revised framework, executive authority will be vested in the prime minister, relegating the presidency to a ceremonial position.

In this updated model, parliament will select the president for a single six-year term, departing from the previous direct public vote.

Notably, opposition parties, which had previously boycotted Togo’s elections and hold minimal representation in parliament, largely supported this constitutional overhaul.

The adoption of the new constitution was nearly unanimous, with only one legislator voting against and another abstaining during the Monday session.

However, it remains uncertain whether this revamped system will be implemented in time for the upcoming regional and legislative elections scheduled for next month.

In a related development, Togolese lawmakers had previously ratified a constitutional amendment in 2019, imposing a two-term limit on the presidency.

As this amendment did not apply retroactively, President Faure Gnassingbé, in power since 2005, remained eligible to contest two additional terms under the former regulations.

Maputo schools in Mozambique closed amid flooding crisis

Schools in Mozambique’s capital city face closure for a week due to heavy rains causing extensive flooding across buildings and roads.

The shutdown applies to both state and private schools in Maputo.

City authorities report the availability of eighteen accommodation centers for those in need, but they can only accommodate a fraction of the affected population.

According to the Maputo Municipal Council, nearly 43,000 people have been impacted by the floods.

Local councillor Anabela Inguane stated, “We are providing food assistance, buckets, blankets, mats, and coordinating with the relief agency, INGD, to supply tents and other necessities.”

Since the onset of the downpour on Sunday, at least two fatalities have been recorded.

  • Kenya authorities release remains of cult victims

Kenya authorities release remains of cult victims

In a somber turn of events, authorities in Kenya have initiated the release of the remains of individuals who tragically lost their lives in a cult that reportedly advocated for starvation as a means to expedite the arrival of the apocalypse.

Out of the 429 bodies unearthed from the remote Shakahola forest in the eastern region of the country, 34 have been identified with the assistance of DNA samples provided by their relatives. On Tuesday, seven sets of remains were handed over to three grieving families.

The cult’s leader, self-proclaimed Pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, allegedly preached a doomsday message, urging his followers to embark on prolonged fasting to hasten the return of Jesus. However, Mackenzie denies these accusations.

Among those receiving closure were high-school teacher Francis Wanje, who received the remains of his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, among others. Tragically, Wanje lost eight family members, and their mysterious disappearance played a pivotal role in uncovering the mass graves concealed within the dense forest.

Relatives of the deceased received psychological support from members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as they grappled with overwhelming grief upon viewing the remains of their loved ones.

The painstaking process of identification, spanning over a year, has been hampered by the extensive decomposition of many bodies, logistical challenges, and limited resources for DNA testing.

While the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights has criticized the delay, government pathologist Johansen Oduor highlighted the reluctance of families to claim the bodies, complicating the identification efforts.

Moreover, financial constraints have posed additional hurdles for some families, with one bereaved individual unable to afford transportation for his relative’s body.

As legal proceedings unfold, Mackenzie and 29 other defendants face charges, including the alleged murder of 191 children. Despite their pleas of not guilty, the case continues to shed light on the tragic consequences of the cult’s teachings.

  • 5 remedies to overcome depression

    5 remedies to overcome depression

Depression is a complex and pervasive condition that casts a shadow over the lives of millions worldwide, making even the simplest tasks feel overwhelming. Yet, within the depths of despair, there is hope. By embracing a holistic approach to treatment and self-care, individuals can find their way back to the light.

Healthcare professionals stress the importance of a comprehensive strategy that encompasses lifestyle adjustments, therapy, and supportive networks to combat depression effectively. Let’s delve into how these components intertwine to foster healing:

Exercise: Physical activity is not merely a means of staying fit; it serves as a powerful antidote to depression. Engaging in regular exercise releases endorphins, the body’s natural mood enhancers, which help alleviate depressive symptoms. Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga, or dancing, finding an enjoyable activity can significantly improve mental well-being.

Nutrition: What we eat profoundly impacts how we feel. A balanced diet rich in nutrients plays a pivotal role in managing depression. Incorporating omega-3 fatty acids, whole grains, lean proteins, and plenty of fruits and vegetables can stabilize mood and enhance overall health. Conversely, a diet high in processed foods and sugars can exacerbate depressive symptoms.

Therapy: Seeking professional guidance is fundamental in depression treatment. Therapy offers a safe space to explore emotions, thoughts, and behaviors under the guidance of trained professionals. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), in particular, has proven effective in identifying and challenging negative thought patterns while developing coping mechanisms. Therapy equips individuals with the tools and insights needed for recovery and resilience.

Open Communication: Depression can foster feelings of isolation, but expressing emotions can be liberating. Sharing struggles with trusted individuals or support groups can offer comfort, understanding, and a sense of connection. Voicing feelings is a crucial step toward healing and reminds individuals that they are not alone in their journey.

Support Network: Navigating depression is not a solitary endeavor. Support from family and friends can serve as a lifeline during challenging times. Whether providing practical assistance, emotional support, or a compassionate presence, leaning on one’s support network can significantly aid in the recovery process.

In the battle against depression, a holistic approach that integrates exercise, nutrition, therapy, open communication, and support can pave the path to recovery. Seeking help is a testament to resilience, and with the right strategies and support, healing becomes attainable.

Endurance Grand, a notable figure in the dance industry, voiced her concern about the absence of recognition and compensation for the efforts of dancers.

“Do you know where I feel underpaid? That is when I don’t get credit for the work I do,” she remarked.

She pointed out the lack of dedicated categories for dancers at events such as the Ghana Music Awards, despite their considerable influence on songs.

“Looking at Ghana Music Awards, why isn’t there a category for dancers that are dedicated to songs, especially because we add a ‘salt bay’ to the song?” she questioned.

She expanded on the significance of crediting dancers, especially when their choreography plays a significant role in the success of a song.

“And then the song is a hit and you’ve won an award for it, why don’t we have a category for that? Why don’t you give us credit when we’ve choreographed?”

Endurance Grand emphasized the necessity for collaboration between dancers and artists in the music industry, emphasizing that solid choreography should accompany every music video in Ghana.

The discussion also featured insights from other speakers, including Mr. Drew and Official Starter, with moderation by Gideon Nicholas Day. The overarching theme underscored the evolving role of content creators as pivotal influencers in music marketing.

Endurance Grand’s remarks shed light on the often-overlooked contribution of dancers to the music industry, urging stakeholders to consider their role and provide them with due recognition and reward.

“I will resign if NDC can point out 1 hospital project they started, completed, commissioned” – Minister

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah has vowed to resign if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) can point out a single hospital it commissioned in the region during its tenure.

According to him, the NDC brainwashed people that they have built and commissioned hospitals in the Ashanti Region when there are no records to show for it.

He quizzed, “which of the 3 interchanges in Ashanti Region was done by the NDC? A party that offered you nothing! You know I have thrown a challenge to them (NDC), that if they can show us one hospital they either came to meet or built themselves from January 7 2009 to 6th January 2017 and were able to commission in Ashanti Region, and I will resign,” the minister threw a challenge to the NDC.

Meanwhile, the minister was speechless during a live TV interview when he was asked a question about the projects that his party, the NPP, has been able to do for the people of his region.

In the interview on Oyerepa TV on Monday, March 25, 2024, Simon Osei-Mensah could be seen struggling to give answers to the question of what he and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had been able to do.

After speaking about four such projects from his party, for the region, the minister went blank and quiet, unable to say any more words.

“We have completed the Zipline project which is at Mampong… go and look at Bosomtwe Girls… By the end of April, you will see that planes can land at the airport… baby and mother unit that Auntie Rebecca came to commission is also our project,” and then the minister went blank on live TV.

Former Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticized Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, over his recent remarks concerning the ongoing power supply issues, commonly referred to as “dumsor” in Ghana.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh made these comments in response to government critics who have been calling for a schedule for the irregular power supply.

However, during an interview, the energy minister dismissed the necessity for a schedule, suggesting that those requesting one should devise it themselves.

In response to the minister’s remarks, Felix Kwakye Ofosu took to Twitter to denounce Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s stance, stating, “This is an astonishing display of arrogance and disrespect towards Ghanaians who are enduring uncomfortable power cuts.

“Even the comical Bawumia would know better than picking him as running mate,” he tweeted.

In a video shared by JoyNews on X, the minister responded to a journalist’s question in a playful manner, stating that he sees no requirement for a timetable when the power distributor asserts that the current situation in the country does not warrant one.

“Ask those who want it to bring it, if there is. I haven’t seen any timetable,” he stated.

Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, previously refuted claims that Ghana had reverted to the era of dumsor, which occurred during the John Dramani Mahama administration.

He stated that the country was instead facing ‘dum sie sie,’ referring to outages for routine equipment maintenance.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye makes Senegal’s youngest president at age 44

Senegal welcomes its newest president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who at 44 years old, becomes the youngest democratically elected leader in West Africa.

Born in 1980, Faye emerged as the de facto opposition leader in the March 24, 2024 election, which featured 19 candidates.

Faye assumed the role of opposition leader after his mentor, the widely admired Ousmane Sonko, was disqualified from the race by the courts due to previous convictions for serious offenses.

This outcome signals the conclusion of the two-term presidency of outgoing President Macky Sall, who has reiterated his commitment to stepping down on April 2 as scheduled.

Similar to his mentor Sonko, Faye had previously been incarcerated and was only granted presidential pardon in the weeks leading up to the elections.

Here are key details about Senegal’s incoming president:

    A. He was released from imprisonment on March 16, alongside Sonko.

    B. Faye and Sonko are both leaders of the Patriotes Africains du Sénégal pour le Travail, l’Ethique et la Fraternité (Pastef), a party dissolved in July 2023.

    C. He spent 335 days in pre-trial detention on charges including “contempt of court” and “incitement to insurrection.”

    D. He celebrated his 44th birthday on March 25, 2024, the same day he was declared the victor in the election.

    E. In 2014, at the age of 34, Faye, an alumnus of the Ecole Nationale de l’Administration (ENA), played a significant role in the formation of Pastef during meetings.

    F. He emerged as one of the chief architects of Sonko’s presidential campaign program in 2019, earning praise for his strategic acumen. During his first presidential bid, Sonko secured nearly 16% of the vote, finishing third, as noted in a Le Monde profile.

    G. President Macky Sall, the ruling party’s candidate Amadou Ba, and other political opponents have extended their congratulations to him on his victory.

    H. He becomes Senegal’s 5th president, in a country known for its stable democracy, which has remained free from military intervention since gaining independence.

    I. Diomaye Faye’s polygamous status, with two wives, has sparked significant reactions on social media.

In his social media-posted victory speech, he listed four urgent priorities.

“In view of the emergencies that confront us and the hope placed in us, we are working relentlessly, diligently and methodically around priority projects:

    1- National reconciliation and the reconstruction of the foundations of our living together;

    2- The rebuilding of institutions

    3- Significant reduction in the cost of living to alleviate the burdens of daily life;

4- National inclusive sectoral consultations on the evaluation and relaunch of public policies.

“We will walk together, act together and succeed together! Long live Senegal; Long live the Republic; Long live Africa,” he stated.

  • Tensions rise as teacher unions clash with FWSC CEO over nationwide strike

Tensions rise as teacher unions clash with FWSC CEO over nationwide strike

The President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Rev. Isaac Owusu, and the Vice President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Jacob Anaba, engaged in a heated exchange with the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) regarding the ongoing nationwide strike by public school teachers.

Appearing as guests on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, March 25, representatives from the two major teacher unions expressed their displeasure with comments made by Mr. Ben Arthur, which they interpreted as an attack on them for initiating industrial action.

The strike, declared on March 20 by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH), stems from dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of issues including the renewal of collective agreements, which expired in 2023.

The unions maintain that their decision to strike was a last resort after unsuccessful attempts to engage the government in negotiations. However, the CEO of FWSC accused the unions of disregarding strike declaration processes and failing to comply with an order from the National Labour Commission (NLC) to end the strike.

Furthermore, he criticized the unions for their absence from a meeting convened by FWSC and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.

“The question that I want to ask which is missing from all your arguments is; are our teachers, whatever their grievances above the laws of this country? Do you think that we should have a country where our teachers do not respect the laws of this country? What type of country do you want to build and what do you want to teach our kids? Where you have gone on strike with a Reverend Minister leading it, at the end of the day, you have failed to comply with the labour laws of this country.”

“There are procedures, there are provisions as to what must happen before you can really embark on a strike. You failed to notify the employer, Fair Wages was not in the know, and what was statutory of you to notify the National Labour Commission was also not done, and then all of a sudden we’re ambushed.”

The President of GNAT, speaking to host Evans Mensah, asserted that teachers would remain on strike until all their demands were addressed, regardless of any criticism from the CEO of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

He staunchly defended the legality of the strike, emphasizing that they had notified their employers before initiating the action. He emphasized that the FWSC CEO and his team were not their employers, implying that they were not obliged to inform the FWSC.

Additionally, he justified their refusal to attend the meeting convened by FWSC and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.

“Engineer [Fair Wages CEO] has been attacking us at the least opportunity he gets since Wednesday when we declared the strike.

“Evans, when it comes to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the unions have raised five solid issues, and each of the issues is very important and dear to the teacher we’re representing. Regarding the issue concerning the laptop, the contract says that within 12 calendar months; that is from January 2021 to December 2021, the supplier should have finished the distribution and we are in 2024. More than 100,000 teachers have not received the laptop, and what is the engineer talking about?” he fumed.

“The collective agreement, before the 2020 one that we signed, we were having 2009 collective agreement and we used it from 2009 to the year 2020. I want Engineer [FWSC CEO] to understand that, yes, you’re under the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, but you’re not the employer of the teacher. The law says that if we want to embark on industrial action we should notify the employer. Engineer, are you the Director-General for GES? Evans, we wrote two separate letters on the 29th of February and in those letters, the NLC was duly notified.”

CEO of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Ben Arthur.

Rev. Isaac Owusu condemned what he called an attack on his reverend Minister status, reminding the FWSC CEO that he was first a teacher and had every right to act in the interest of the teachers he was leading.

“The teachers of today are not the teachers of yesterday. The teachers of today are demanding results from leadership, and that’s what we are doing. We don’t have any ill motives and nobody is behind us” he noted, in response to Mr Ben Arthur’s query to know what their true motivation for the strike is.

He disclosed that they’re meeting the National Labour Commission on Tuesday, March 26, on the same matters.

The Vice President of NAGRAT, Jacob Anaba, who also joined the PM Express discussion in studio confronted Mr Ben Arthur of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for some of the remarks he made which he considered an attack on the teachers.

Vice President of NAGRAT, Jacob Anaba.

Mr Anaba also brought out hard copies of letters the unions had written to back his colleague’s assertion that they had gone through the right processes before declaring the strike. The FWSC CEO also read out letters to buttress his points on the show.

They gloated in Prez Mills’ death, we shall know the truth – Anyidoho reacts to Kwesi Ahwoi

Founder and President of the Atta Mills Institute, and former General Secretary of the NDC, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has reacted to Kwesi Ahwoi’s comment that has received condemnation from a section of the opposition party.

At an event in Accra for Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Mr. Ahwoi suggested that she should be prepared for any scenario that could lead to her presidency.

“Mahama was not prepared to become President. Nature skewed things in such a way that President Mills had to give way to John Mahama. Anything can happen. So Naana, be ever prepared,” Mr Ahwoi stated.

He made the statement after noting how the death of the late Mills paved way for Mahama to become president in July 2012.

Now, reacting to Mr Ahowi’s statement, Anyhidoho has reiterated his believe that Mills died before his time.

Oyiwa! They also gloated in Prez Mills’ death. We shall know the truth,” Anyidoho stated on X.

Challenges in creative arts industry also part of Funny Face’s problems – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian artist Shatta Wale recently expressed his view that the struggles faced by comedian Funny Face mirror the underlying issues within the creative industry.

Through a Facebook post, the dancehall sensation emphasized that Funny Face’s challenges extend beyond mere relationship woes.

“The creative arts industry must break the cycle of self-punishment through depression and frustration. It’s time to speak up and seek help. What’s happening to Funny Face isn’t solely a marital issue; it’s indicative of deeper systemic challenges within our creative industries. Let’s acknowledge the dysfunction in our structures and stop pretending everything is fine. Speak up, it’s time for change!! Sorry my brother funny face ,May God see you thru [sic],” he wrote on Facebook.

On Sunday, March 24, 2024, Funny Face, renowned both as a comedian and actor, was involved in a car accident in Kasoa, located in Ghana’s Central Region.

Footage circulating on social media depicted concerned bystanders gathered around the actor on that Sunday evening.

An eyewitness recounted hearing a collision shortly after parking their own vehicle. Upon turning, they witnessed Funny Face’s car colliding with a woman accompanied by two children and a man on a motorbike.

Reports indicate that the injured parties were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.

In recent weeks, Funny Face had been vocal about his struggles to connect with his three children, citing his ex-girlfriend’s refusal to allow him access. The comedian, who had previously battled depression and sought treatment, appeared to be grappling with emotional instability stemming from the ongoing conflict with his former partner. This situation had prevented him from seeing his children for the past four years.

In a poignant expression of his distress, Funny Face had recently expressed his intention to relocate and start afresh in an attempt to distance himself from his anguish. This declaration preceded the unfortunate accident.

Thank you for providing us with more classrooms and chairs – Student appreciates Akufo-Addo

A student of Bosomtwe Girls Senior High School, Adutwumwaa Fokuo, has extended her appreciation to President Nana Akufo-Addo for his educational initiatives.

She said this when she was asked to do the vote of thanks at the launch of “1 student, 1 tablet” initiative held at the International Conference Centre on March 25 2024 by Akufo-Addo through the Education Ministry

Fokuo highlighted the significant impact of programs like free Senior High School education on both teachers and students.

“Sir, we would like to say thank you for giving us free Senior High School education. Daddy we will like to say thank you for giving us more classrooms, furniture, uniforms and textbooks. Grand Daddy we say thank you for providing our teachers with computer laptops and converting our schools to smart schools. Daddy, father of the land, we say thank you for providing us with tablets which has enhanced our educational purposes,”

The Free Senior High School (SHS) program was initiated by the Akufo administration in Ghana in September 2017, aiming to offer free and accessible education at the secondary level.

While considered a significant milestone in Ghana’s education sector, the program has encountered implementation challenges, as reported by some beneficiaries.

Nevertheless, the Free Education Policy reflects a clear commitment to expanding educational opportunities and fostering socio-economic development in Ghana.

  • Close to 300 kidnapped schoolchildren freed in Nigeria

Close to 300 kidnapped schoolchildren freed in Nigeria

Local officials announced on Sunday that nearly 300 Nigerian schoolchildren who were kidnapped in the northwestern state of Kaduna have been released, over two weeks after they were abducted from their school and taken into the forests.

Since 2014, over 1,400 students have been abducted from Nigerian schools, following the infamous kidnapping of hundreds of schoolgirls by Boko Haram militants in Borno state’s Chibok village. Recent years have seen a concentration of abductions in the northwestern and central regions, where numerous armed groups target villagers and travelers for ransom.

Kaduna state Gov. Uba Sani did not provide specific details regarding the release of the 287 students abducted from their school in the remote town of Kuriga on March 7, with at least 100 of them aged 12 or younger. In his statement, he expressed gratitude to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, particularly for ensuring the safe release of the abducted school children.

President Tinubu had pledged to rescue the children without paying any ransom, though it is common for families to arrange ransom payments for kidnappings. Official acknowledgment of such payments is rare in Nigeria.

No group has claimed responsibility for the Kaduna kidnapping, which locals attribute to bandit groups notorious for mass killings and ransom kidnappings in the conflict-affected northern region. Many of these groups comprise former herders engaged in conflicts with settled communities.

According to sources familiar with the security situation in Nigeria’s northwest, the identity of the abductors is known. Murtala Ahmed Rufa’i, a professor of peace and conflict studies at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, and Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a cleric involved in negotiations with the bandits, stated that the abductors are hiding in the vast and ungoverned forests of the region.

Arrests are infrequent in Nigeria’s mass kidnappings, as victims are typically released only after families pay ransoms or through negotiations with government and security officials.

The Kaduna governor expressed gratitude to Nigerian security forces and officials for their efforts leading to the release of the students.

“I spent sleepless nights with the National Security Adviser, Mal. Nuhu Ribadu … fine-tuning strategies and coordinating the operations of the security agencies, which eventually resulted in this successful outcome,” he said.

Ugandan President Museveni elevates son to military chief

President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, aged 79, has appointed his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to lead the military.

This promotion of the 49-year-old occurs alongside a significant cabinet reshuffle that saw the dismissal of five ministers.

Despite longstanding speculation suggesting otherwise, President Museveni has refuted claims that he is grooming his sole son as his successor.

Gen Kainerugaba, a contentious figure, has become progressively engaged in politics, a departure from military protocols.

In 2022, his father relieved him of his duties as commander of the army’s land forces after he made threats on Twitter, now referred to as X, to invade neighboring Kenya.

President Museveni subsequently issued an apology to Kenya’s leader and sought forgiveness from Kenyans on behalf of his son.

Nevertheless, Gen Kainerugaba’s contentious tweet remains undeleted, and despite this incident, he was promoted to general and retained as his father’s advisor.

He later stirred controversy with another post, declaring his intention to dispatch troops to Moscow to aid President Vladimir Putin in defending Russia against Ukraine.

Now, he assumes the role of head of the country’s defense forces, replacing Gen Wilson Mbadi, who will lead the trade ministry.

Additionally, two of Gen Kainerugaba’s close advisors have been appointed as ministers in the cabinet reshuffle.

The promotion of Gen Kainerugaba has elicited concern from various quarters.

Opposition lawmaker Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda expressed apprehension, stating that President Museveni was treating Uganda as “a personal enterprise of his family.”

Nganda condemned the appointment, urging Ugandans to resist the establishment of a “family dynasty.”

  • Benefits of having sex with lights on

Benefits of having sex with lights on

Do you turn off the lights or at least dim them as soon as you get into bed with your partner? Lots of people do this.

Sex with the lights on is not as often practiced as frolicking in the dark. At least statistics show that men prefer the first option, while women choose less light and more climate.

Whatever the reason, it’s worth breaking the routine, and making love more often when it’s bright in the bedroom has many advantages that we often underestimate.

Sex, during which everything is visible, has many advantages. It is worth practicing for many reasons.

    Better communication

When the light remains on during sex, it is easier to read and understand your partner’s reactions. The full view will tell the truth and show you what you like and what you don’t necessarily like. Facial expressions and body reactions reveal more than words. This, in turn, allows for better communication and greater satisfaction from sex.

    Increasing closeness

Here’s another advantage of making love in a bright room. Seeing your partner engage in a sexual act gives you a greater sense of physical closeness and emotional connection. You can look deeply into each other’s eyes, which gives you a sense of security and strengthens the relationship.

    Feeling satisfied

In the dark, it is difficult to observe the achievement of pleasure. Sex with the lights on is arousing because it allows you to notice nuances such as a grimace on your face, goosebumps, or pulsating arteries in your neck. Nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing your partner orgasm.

    Less risk of injury

Various statistics and surveys show that most sexually active people have suffered one or more injuries during intercourse. Falling out of bed, and hitting your hand or head on the headboard is not uncommon. With the light on, there is less chance that someone will hurt themselves during bed acrobatics. It’s simpler here – seeing everything around you makes it easier to avoid possible injury.

    Greater self-confidence

Even though turning on the light exposes your body, it doesn’t have to be embarrassing. For many people, sex with the lights on allows them to feel comfortable and attractive, without maintaining unnecessary appearances and pretenses. This, in turn, can increase your self-confidence in the bedroom.

    Better body knowledge

A detailed view of the body allows it to be observed and examined. You can find out which techniques give the greatest pleasure or how the body reacts to a given caress.

    Feeling comfortable

Turning on the light while zooming in can be comfortable because you can see what’s going on around you. This increases control over the situation and gives a sense of security.

In response to questions about his cannabis consumption, King Paluta didn’t give a direct yes or no answer; instead, he adopted a more subtle “read between the lines” strategy.

He hinted that it wouldn’t be surprising if he did smoke, suggesting that denying it would likely lead to criticism for being dishonest.

According to him, his demeanor and lifestyle make it apparent to many that he engages in smoking.

Speaking on The Delay Show aired on March 23, 2024, the secular musician and music producer suggested that such inquiries should be directed towards gospel musicians, as societal expectations regarding smoking differ for them.

“If people like us sit before you and talk about ‘weed’, it’s no news,” said King Paluta in the interview monitored by GhanaWeb. “You should rather engage the gospel musicians – Nacee, Bro Sammy and the likes on this subject.”

He continued: “If I tell you I smoke, it’s no news, it’s not shocking. But if I say I don’t smoke, even your viewers will insult me for lying. So, I don’t even have to say ‘no’ or ‘yes’”.

Reflecting on his journey to success, King Paluta revealed his lifelong aspiration to pursue music. Raised by a single mother, he had to continually work hard to achieve his dreams.

In 2004, he penned his inaugural song, showcasing his dedication to music by investing his school fees in studio sessions.

Today, he has emerged as a celebrated musician, with his tracks amassing significant views. His notable works include ‘Aha Akye,’ featuring Samini, ‘Sika Aba Fie,’ ‘YaHitte,’ and ‘Aseda.’

Let’s come together and help Funny Face – DKB pleads with fellow comedians

Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, revealed that he initially pledged not to support his fellow comedian Funny Face.

However, a change of heart ensued after Funny Face was involved in an accident.

DKB justified his previous stance by highlighting Funny Face’s past actions, which had alienated him from other comedians in the country, resulting in their reluctance to extend support to him. Consequently, DKB refrained from publicly addressing issues involving Funny Face.

However, DKB’s perspective shifted following Funny Face’s recent accident. In an Instagram live session monitored by GhanaWeb, DKB urged his fellow comedians to forgive Funny Face and stand by him during such difficult times.

“I have never been a fan of Funny Face because of his shenanigans. You don’t see me talking about him publicly because of what he did to us [comedians] in the past. So for me, it will take more than just the eye for him to convince me.

“But with what happened to him tonight [car accident], I am pleading with all of us to have sympathy on him. I am calling on the comedians such as Kalybos, Bismark The Joke and the rest to come on board and help him,” he said.

Funny Face was involved in a severe accident in Kasoa, located in the Central Region, where he reportedly collided with five individuals at Kakraba Junction.

An eyewitness indicated that one of the victims might have suffered fatal injuries. The victims included a mother with her two children and two motorcyclists struck after the initial impact.

The incident, captured on March 24, 2024, per footage from the scene, prompted Accra-based UTV to share a video showing Funny Face being escorted away while bystanders surrounded the vehicle he was purportedly driving.

In recent years, Funny Face has been entangled in a tumultuous relationship issue with his baby mama, leading to a court referral for psychological evaluation.

He has also openly discussed his struggles with depression and, in recent social media posts, accused his baby mama of plotting to permanently separate him from their three children.

I met my father after my mother raised me for 19 years – Musician King Paluta

Renowned musician King Paluta shared insights into his upbringing during an interview on The Delay Show aired on March 23, 2024.

He was raised by his mother for the nineteen years (19) in the absence of his father.

He humorously likened his family dynamics to biblical figures, jestingly referring to himself as ‘Jesus.’

Drawing parallels, he highlighted his mother’s name, Mary, and his father’s name, Joseph, alongside his birth out of wedlock.

“I didn’t see my father often,” he said. “I think I was raised by a single mother. Before I was born, my parents weren’t married. When I came into the world, my dad was away. He was in Ghana, but we had no idea of his whereabouts.”

The musician recalled his first encounter with his father when he visited their home, revealing that he was approximately nineteen years old at the time.

“It wasn’t until I was 19 or 20 years old that I met him,” said King Paluta. “He came to my mother, and she discussed marriage with him. My father was the only man my mother had.”

He recounted that throughout this period, his mother consciously chose not to pursue relationships with other men. However, he remained uncertain about her specific reasons, speculating that “her interest in men dwindled after the separation, leading her to prioritize her children.”

King Paluta shared that his father passed away in 2022, but before his death, there had been a reconciliation between his parents.

Reflecting on his musical journey, King Paluta disclosed that he penned his debut song in 2004, demonstrating his dedication to music by investing his school fees in studio sessions.

  • Sea defence project at Takoradi threatened by sea erosion – Head of Ghana’s Coastal Division

Sea defence project at Takoradi threatened by sea erosion – Head of Ghana’s Coastal Division

The relentless advance of the sea poses a threat to unprotected sections of the coastline near the Aboadze Thermal Plant in the Shama District of the Western Region, jeopardizing the viability of the existing sea defense infrastructure.

The present sea defense wall, which was built to protect the thermal units of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Takoradi International Company, is seriously vulnerable due to a 700-meter section that is unprotected between the VRA’s thermal units and the recently built Twin-City Power (Amandi).

This vulnerable stretch is rapidly succumbing to erosion as the sea relentlessly encroaches upon the shore. Engineers fear that this situation could compromise the long-term integrity of both the Aboadze Thermal Plant and the Twin-City Energy Power Plant installations.

The potential impact extends beyond infrastructure, as the erosion threatens to diminish the country’s energy generation capacity. The Aboadze Thermal Plant and the Twin City Energy together contribute up to approximately 530 megawatts of power daily.

The Head of Coastal Division of the Ghana Hydrological Authority, Yiadom Boakye Akoto, told the Daily Graphic that the situation “is a threat to the power plants”.

Mr. Boakye Akoto, an engineer, raised concerns echoing those previously noted by the Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, during his recent inspection tour of the Central Region.

“Considering the investments in these plants, the economic benefits of the infrastructure far outweigh the cost of protecting the shore,” Mr Boakye Akoto said.

He explained that originally, there were three rows of coconut plants serving as a protective barrier against erosion, but two of these rows have already been lost, leaving the third row vulnerable to imminent threat.

“The beach fronting these assets has remained vulnerable to the harsh conditions of tidal waves and sea level rises due to climate change.

    Erosion, recession

He said the unprotected section was vulnerable to the threat of coastal erosion and recession.

“The exposure of the unprotected section of the coastline to the vagaries of tidal wave impacts could result in massive erosion of the coastline and adjoining land, and thus pose a threat to the Takoradi Thermal Power Station, Twin City Energy and other critical state assets within the enclave in the medium to long term.

“This situation is impacting negatively the power plant installations and the community at large. It is feared the nation might lose huge investment made in these power stations if the coastline fronting these assets are not protected,” he told the Daily Graphic.

Mr Boakye Akoto said Aboadze’s neighbouring coastline, the Shama-Anlo beach, was under serious threat due to tidal wave impacts, stressing that beaches near Shama-Anlo had recently been rapidly degrading at an alarming rate.

“The main cause of this incident is the sea level rise brought on by climate change and its associated repercussions.

Moreso, economic fishing activities along the shore of Aboadze, Shama and Anlo beach is on the decline due to tidal wave impact, erosion of landing site for the fishing boats and other factors.

“Until recently, coastal protection works built by the Hydrological Services Department (now Ghana Hydrological Authority) provided relief to areas of the coastline.

Without a doubt, the exposed and unprotected coastal sections of the Aboadze thermal power enclave and Shama-Anlo beaches remain vulnerable to tidal wave effect.

“Implementation of a coastal protection scheme to safeguard the nation’s power generation assets, mitigate coastline erosion, and lessen tidal flooding is required. This will enhance economic growth along the coastal communities of Aboadze and Shama-Anlo,” Mr Boakye Akoto said.

    Sand winning

Sand winning is threatening portions of the sea defence project in the capital of the Central Region.

This came to light during an inspection of some sea defence projects by the Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, last Thursday.

He inspected works on sea defence projects in Anomabo, Cape Coast, Elmina and Komenda.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah raised the concern with the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, and appealed to traditional authorities in the project area to help to protect such huge infrastructure development.

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta said the traditional council had already observed the problem with sand winning at the shore, and the impact it could have on some of the project site.

He said that had compelled the traditional council and the district assembly to set up a task force to apprehend perpetrators, and pledged that the traditional council would support efforts to stop the menace.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah later told the media that the government was committed to getting contractors on all stalled sea defence projects back to site to complete them.

He said some of the sea defence projects could be completed in two months.

He stressed that the eight sea defence projects commenced in 2017 were all more than 80 per cent done.

He said while some of the work had delayed due to financial challenges, all such issues had been resolved and contractors had agreed to go back to the sites.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) dismisses assertions by CEO of the Independent Power Generators, Ghana (IPGG), Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, regarding the effects of its export operations on Ghana’s energy supply, denouncing his claims as inaccurate and misleading.

A statement released by the VRA stated, “The Volta River Authority (VRA) has taken note of a recent media publication alleging that the VRA is failing to fulfill its power supply commitments to the Ghanaian market due to excessive power exports to neighboring countries. This claim, purportedly made by the Independent Power Generators Ghana, is entirely baseless and misleading.”

The VRA reaffirmed its dedication to meeting obligations to the domestic energy market and rejected any insinuation that its export operations were undermining this commitment.

“The VRA remains steadfast in its dedication to providing reliable power supply to Ghana, and any insinuations to the contrary are unfounded,” the statement added.

Our misunderstandings do not mean we are not united – Chairman Wontumi

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, rebukes members and executives for airing grievances in the media rather than utilizing internal channels, citing the action as detrimental to party unity and in violation of the NPP’s Constitution.

In response to a recent petition filed by six elected Ashanti Regional party executives to the national leadership, alleging Chairman Wontumi’s neglect of duty, he defends himself, highlighting the importance of unity among executives as the party gears up for the December general elections during the inauguration of the party’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region.

“In our companies, offices sometimes we have some misunderstandings, but it doesn’t mean we are not united. NPP we are poised to unite and win the 2024 elections, winning is not negotiable, we are united ever. We are united as a strong party to break the 8, we cannot disappoint Ghanaians and the Ashanti region” he said in an interview on Citi News.

NPP’s Campaign Chairman, Dan Botwe, emphasizes the importance of utilizing internal structures for addressing grievances, urging party members to refrain from airing their concerns publicly.

“If you have a grievance talk to people to solve it, if you go to the radio station and discuss it what do you achieve by doing that? We’re in a contest with others and we have to send a message that we are disciplined and focused and it’s important that we apply all those things in resolving our problems,” he said.

  • AG warns Franklin Cudjoe against spreading falsehoods

AG warns Franklin Cudjoe against spreading falsehoods

The Attorney-General’s Department has issued a warning to the President of IMANI Africa, advising against the dissemination of misinformation regarding the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Dame.

This caution comes in response to Franklin Cudjoe’s call for an apology from the Attorney General to the residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL), alleging a failure to pursue justice for them and defending the state’s actions in the 2020 general elections, which resulted in their disenfranchisement.

Furthermore, Mr. Cudjoe has accused Godfred Dame of exhibiting political bias and displaying poor judgment in legal matters, advocating for legal counsel that is less influenced by politics and more focused on prudence.

“The Attorney-General is also a disappointment; very disappointing, this Attorney-General has been legendary when it comes to giving very bad advice. When it comes to important issues that matter, especially when certain persons are involved. He’s been too political, and it’s not healthy for a state like Ghana. Look at SALL, Assin North MP, Gyakye Quayson, the way he’s treating Ato Forson [Minority Leader] in court.

“My problem with the Attorney-General is that he should have taken the position the Finance Minister took in advising legally that, ‘Mr President the way things are going I think sitting together with the other party is very important to deal with this matter’. But he took a Machiavellian position in trying to say his hands are stayed,” he said on Citi TV’s Big Issue.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Attorney-General, Isaac Wilberforce Mensah, the Office expressed strong disapproval of the remarks made by the President of IMANI Africa.

The statement cited numerous instances where Mr. Cudjoe has inaccurately portrayed Mr. Dame, despite previous corrections and warnings issued by the Office.

However, on the same day after issuing an apology, the President of IMANI Africa reportedly made another unsubstantiated claim. He demanded that Mr. Dame apologize for what he termed as a “dereliction of duty” in seeking justice for the 30,000 citizens of SALL.

The statement highlighted that using terms like “dereliction of duty” implies the existence of a duty, which, in this case, is not within the Attorney-General’s purview. The duties of the Attorney-General are primarily outlined in Article 88 of the 1992 Constitution and include initiating and conducting criminal and civil cases on behalf of the State. Electoral matters and constituency creation are not part of the Attorney-General’s responsibilities.

“The Constitution places the mandate squarely and absolutely on the doorstep of the Electoral Commision. In fact Article 46 states clearly that “Except as provided in this Constitution or in any other law not inconsistent with this Constitution, in the performance of its functions, the Electoral Commission, shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority,” the statement clarified.

As such, the Office is asking Mr Cudjoe to apologise and retract some comments.

“Franklin Cudjoe, IMANI, lied, lies, and continues to lie and spread falsehoods about the learned Attorney-General and any further derogatory claim by him in respect of the Attorney-General should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

“It’s for his own sake and the sake of the institution that he represents that I am advising him to stop peddling falsehoods, retract, apologize, and desist from these actions that show a sheer lack of basic research,” the release stressed.

    Read the full statement below:

I think Franklin Cudjoe is just embarrassing himself all over. He has dirtied himself with lies and when he is called out on his lies against the Attorney-General, he renders an apology and like a recalcitrant child, he tries to attack again from another angle which also proves to be further falsehood.

It appears to me the think tank is not thinking, but continues to woefully tank.

On Saturday morning he posted that the AG has been legendary in giving illiberal and politically divisive advice on the SALL, Domelevo, Charlotte Osei, James Quayson, Martin Amidu, and Ato Forson.
As spokesperson, I called him out on the lies because that was exactly what they were – lies.
I challenged him to produce any such advice since one, it is not true that the AG advised on any of the matters that he listed, and two, Honourable Godfred Yeboah Dame was not even the Attorney-General at the time all those issues occured, except for Ato Forson and James Gyakye Quayson who are currently being prosecuted for crimes which the Attorney-General believes they have committed.

In the case of Dormelovo (2019/2020)
    Charlotte Osei (2017/2018)
    Martin Amidu (2020)
SALL (2020 Elections), Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame was NOT the Attorney-General at the time.

In any event, no advice was given by the Attorney-General at that time, Gloria Afua Akuffo, on any of the issues.

After being called out on the lies, he issues an apology in the afternoon of the same day and in the evening throws out another vacuous claim that the A-G should apologize for his “dereliction of duty” in seeking justice for the 30,000 citizens of SALL that were callously prevented from the last Parliamentary elections.

To use words like “dereliction of duty” means first there must be a duty. Of course with a penchant for attacking without any sound basis and an eagerness to do so it is understandable that Franklin Cudjoe would forget or ignore to do some basic research. The duties of the Attorney-General are primarily provided for in Article 88 of the 1992 Constitution and they include initiation and conduct of criminal and civil cases on behalf of the State, etc. Matters related to election and creation of constituencies are not a “duty” of the A-G. The Constitution places the mandate squarely and absolutely on the doorstep of the Electoral Commision. In fact Article 46 states clearly that “Except as provided in this Constitution or in any other law not inconsistent with this Constitution, in the performance of its functions, the Electoral Commission, shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority.”

It can only be for mischief that a CEO of a Think tank Imani was unable to either read or grasp this basic legal framework. The A-G has on two occasions expressed his opinion in Parliament, one in July 2021 and in November 2023 where he disagreed with the position of the EC and proposed two solutions that would allow the people within the SALL area to vote especially as part of Buem.

Franklin Cudjoe, IMANI, lied, lies, and continues to lie and spread falsehoods about the learned Attorney-General and any further derogatory claim by him in respect of the Attorney-General should be treated with the contempt it deserves. It’s for his own sake and the sake of the institution that he represents that I at this point advising him to stop peddling falsehoods, retract, apologize, and desist from these actions that show a sheer lack of basic research.

The Attorney-General is indeed legendary in that not many Attorneys-General can say with concrete proof that they have saved the state the amount of money this A-G has, and instituted far-reaching reforms of the law in Ghana. Monies of
    Brobdingnagian proportions.

    Signed, Isaac Wilberforce Mensah (spokesperson)

    Background

It would be recalled that the Electoral Commission (EC) through a release issued on the eve of the 2020 elections, caused the exclusion of SALL to vote and elect a Member of Parliament.

Although voters in the SALL traditional areas were allowed to vote in the Buem Constituency for the presidential election, they were directed by the EC not to participate in the parliamentary elections.

Some residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) dragged then Hohoe MP-elect John Peter Amewu and the EC to the High Court.

They contended that by not being allowed to vote in the December 2020 parliamentary elections, their rights have been breached.

They secured a 10-day injunction against the gazetting of John Peter Amewu as the winner of the polls.

However, the then Deputy Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, who is currently the country’s Attorney-General filed an application at the Supreme Court urging it to restrain the Ho High Court from hearing the matter.

He maintained that SALL residents do not have voting rights in Hohoe since the Supreme Court has already ruled that the area falls within the Oti region.

The Supreme Court ruled that the alleged breach of the rights of SALL residents was not caused by Mr. Amewu who just put himself up for elections.

Therefore, any move to question his election ought to be challenged through an election petition and not a human rights action at the High Court.

This did not sit well with the SALL residents who filed for a review insisting the original panel commuted errors of law.

But the Supreme Court later affirmed its earlier decision that the Ho High Court erred when it granted an injunction against the gazetting of John Peter Amewu as Hohoe MP-elect.

Meanwhile in October 2023, the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, revealed a Constitutional Instrument (C.I) is before parliament for the establishment of the Guan constituency.

The constituency captures the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lipke and Lolobi (SALL) Traditional Areas that were unable to vote for a parliamentary representation in 2020.

Speaking on PM Express, Dr Quaicoe said that although the Guan district assembly was established in November 2020 there was not enough time for the EC to place the C.I before parliament prior to the general elections in December.

Due to this, the constituency was unable to come into full force, leaving the people without a parliamentary vote and subsequently representation, he noted.

Kenyan authorities criticized for ignoring credible reports on doomsday cult

Kenyan authorities disregarded “credible reports” concerning a doomsday cult, where over 400 members were found buried in shallow graves, as stated by a state-funded human rights watchdog.

Last year, the bodies of 429 individuals, including children, were uncovered in Shakahola, a forest near Malindi.

Survivors and families of victims claimed that cult leader Paul Mackenzie encouraged fasting among his followers to “go see Jesus.”

In its report, The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) condemned security officers in Malindi for “gross abdication of duty and negligence” preceding the fatalities.

KNCHR chairwoman Roseline Odede stated, “They not only failed to be proactive in gathering and acting on intelligence to prevent the Shakahola massacre but also unjustifiably neglected to act on credible and actionable reports.”

According to the report, justice officials deliberated radicalization linked to Mr. Mackenzie in 2019 but refrained from taking action.

The rights group further noted that a former cult member faced accusations of making unfounded claims when attempting to raise the alarm.

Mr. Mackenzie refuted any responsibility for the deaths. He, along with numerous followers, is presently facing trial for various charges, including terrorism, murder, and torture.

On Wednesday, the Kenyan government announced plans to release some victims’ bodies to their families next week.

Paramilitary Group rejects aid agreement for Darfur

Amidst the backdrop of ongoing tensions and humanitarian crises, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have rejected a recent agreement between the country’s military government and UN agencies.

The agreement aimed to facilitate the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to the beleaguered Darfur region.

The rejection by the RSF, a powerful paramilitary group in Sudan, comes in the wake of Darfur governor Minni Minawi’s announcement of a deal on Thursday.

Governor Minawi revealed plans for aid to be transported to Darfur via a newly established route controlled by the Sudanese army.

However, the RSF, which exercises significant control over Darfur, voiced its discontent over the lack of consultation by UN agencies regarding aid distribution.

Moreover, the paramilitary group leveled accusations against the “extremist former regime,” alleging attempts to smuggle arms into the region—an accusation that awaits a response from the military government.

Sudan’s civil war has been labeled by top UN officials as “one of the worst humanitarian nightmares in recent history,” with the potential to escalate into the world’s largest hunger crisis.

Despite the urgent need for humanitarian intervention, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) reported last month that only a mere 10% of those in dire need in conflict-stricken areas like Darfur have received vital aid.

The challenges hindering aid distribution are manifold, ranging from rampant looting to pervasive security threats and roadblocks.

As Sudan grapples with these multifaceted crises, the rejection of the aid agreement by the RSF underscores the complexities and obstacles faced in providing crucial assistance to vulnerable populations in Darfur and beyond.

Deadly militant attack claims lives of soldiers in Niger

Militants in Niger’s northwest region have reportedly killed at least 23 soldiers and wounded 17 others, according to the country’s defence ministry.

The attack, carried out by over 100 armed individuals on motorcycles, involved the use of improvised explosive devices and suicide bombs to ambush a military unit returning from an operation in the Tillabéri region.

The ministry reported that 30 attackers were also killed in the incident.

Following a coup last year, Niger’s military rulers severed ties with Western allies, leading French forces to depart, who had been leading the international efforts against the jihadists.

Recently, the authorities announced the cancellation of an agreement allowing US troops to be stationed in Niger.

Uganda’s President appoints son as army Commander

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has appointed his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the country’s army commander, sparking speculation about succession plans within the presidential family.

Gen Kainerugaba, previously serving as a senior presidential adviser overseeing special operations, assumes his new role following a cabinet reshuffle that also saw the dismissal of five ministers.

He replaces Gen Wilson Mbadi, who transitions to the role of trade minister in the new appointments.

Notably, two of Gen Kainerugaba’s closest advisers were appointed as ministers in the reshuffle.

Meanwhile, embattled Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu was relieved of her duties amidst corruption allegations, while Lt Gen Samuel Okiding assumes the position of deputy army chief in the changes.

Gen Kainerugaba’s recent rallies across the country have drawn criticism for potential breaches of military discipline, adding fuel to speculation regarding his political aspirations.

President Museveni, in power since 1986, has faced long-standing accusations of grooming Gen Kainerugaba for succession, although he has denied such claims.

The developments come as Uganda prepares for general elections slated for 2026.

Ghanaian musician Atimbila has expressed his regret over his lack of literacy skills, lamenting that it has hindered his career progression.

Atimbila, renowned for his musical prowess, believes that having literacy skills would have been beneficial for his success in the industry.

However, circumstances beyond his control led to him dropping out of school at an elementary level, and he has not had the opportunity for formal education since then.

Atimbila revealed that his father’s opposition to his schooling forced him to abandon his studies at Primary 3 and instead assist in tending to family animals.

Despite his age and current prominence in the music scene, Atimbila harbors a desire to return to school, acknowledging the significance of literacy in his artistic development.

“I wished I had some high level of education. I’m unhappy that I can’t read and write. If I get the opportunity, I’ll return to school. If they say sign, I can’t. It’s bad. I wish someone can help me, I shouldn’t be in this situation. I’m sad about my situation. Botswana’s President criticizes UK’s proposed trophy import ban

Botswana’s President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, has voiced criticism against proposed legislation in Britain aimed at prohibiting the import of trophies from hunted endangered animals, including elephant tusks.

While the British government asserts that the ban will play a crucial role in safeguarding threatened wildlife, Mr. Masisi has defended trophy hunting as a method of managing the elephant population.

In an interview with the BBC, he lamented the lack of efforts to comprehend the potential impact of the ban on his country, describing it as a “sad tragedy.”

Mr. Masisi labeled the move as “hypocritical,” pointing out that Britain permits the hunting of stags and the export of their antlers.

Botswana lifted a moratorium on hunting in 2019, citing an elephant population of over 130,000 and a rise in instances of human-wildlife conflict in the southern African nation.
