Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, remarked that the policy mix under Ghana’s IMF-supported PC-PEG program is showing positive outcomes.
He highlighted that headline inflation, which peaked at 54.1 percent in December 2022, has decreased to 35.2 percent in October 2023 and further dropped to 26.4 percent in November 2023.
Dr. Addison made these observations while delivering remarks at the end-of-year cocktail event held by the Bank of Ghana in Accra on December 14, 2023.
âI kept on reminding people that inflation was at 12.7% in December 2021 and what we saw in 2022 should not be used to judge us.â
âAs you are aware there has been considerable noise from our detractors who have celebrated the high inflation recorded in 2022. Today we are vindicated that inflation in 2022 was just a blip and we are quickly returning to where we were before the crisis,â he added.
The well-known rapper from Ghana, Medikal, has responded to M.anifest’s assertion that the two are strangers.
Recently, on December 14, during a live studio discussion on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, M.anifest responded as follows when questioned about his relationship with Medikal, âno, we donât know each other. There are many people I donât know. I know of them but I don’t know themâ
However, Medikal sharply refuted M.anifest’s claim in a series of comments on his X page, accusing the former of being dishonest and emphasizing how well-known they are to one another.
“Funny how best friends quickly transform into enemies, today you donât know me. Hmm. Sir please he is lying, we know each other very well, we are musicians,” he insisted.
Nonetheless, Medikal showed his regard for M.anifest and acknowledged his experience in the music business.
“I might not be the biggest M.anifest fan but he is a great rapper,” he stated.
In the meantime, online users have highlighted what they perceive as Medikal’s ‘hypocrisy,’ with several noting subtle digs he previously aimed at M.anifest. The ‘Took Risky’ artist was specifically referenced to a tweet from 2019 where he asserted that M.anifest and Strongman were lacking hit songs.

Ghanaian musician Kwaw Kese has responded to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture’s collaboration with certain artistes, urging for increased airplay of Ghanaian songs on radio stations, clubs, and other platforms compared to foreign music.
Expressing his thoughts on the initiative via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on December 14, Kwaw Kese, whose real name is Emmanuel Kofi Botwe, expressed frustration about the need for Ghanaians to be persuaded to support their local artistes instead of favoring foreign music in 2023.
âGhanaians begging Ghanaians to play Ghana music in 2023. System super fucked,â he said.
Additionally, he responded to requests made by Mark Okraku Mantey, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, for DJs to put the greater good of the industry above their own feelings of disrespect toward artists.
âRespect is reciprocal,â he said.
On December 14, the Ministry of Information hosted a stakeholder engagement to gather insights from creatives and various participants in the creative industry to support the #playghana initiative.
Notable artists, including Samini, Black Sherif, and Reggie Rockstone, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to promote Ghanaian music, particularly during the December-in-Ghana festivities.

The Electricity Company of Ghana reveals the identification of the staffer linked to the alleged fuel siphoning from boom truck GV 2474-14.
The implicated individual is disclosed to be a driver stationed at the regional office in Cape Coast.
Despite this revelation, the power distribution company initiates investigations in adherence to its disciplinary procedure, as stated in a press release.
âThe Management of ECGâs attention has been drawn to a TV3 publication of a viral video showing the siphoning of fuel from an ECG boom truck. The staff involved in the alleged siphoning of fuel from the ECG boom truck, with registration number GV 2474-14, has been identified as a driver stationed at the regional office of ECG in Cape Coast.â
âA full-scale investigation has commenced in line with our disciplinary procedure,â it added.
ECG urged Ghanaians to report employee misconduct in order to guarantee improved service delivery throughout the nation.
The ranking member of the ad hoc committee investigating the leaked IGP tape, James Agalga, has announced the completion of the committee’s probe.
He further disclosed that the committee’s report is in a draft stage, awaiting validation by members.
While addressing the media, Agalga explained that although the investigations have been concluded, the committee has faced challenges in convening a meeting for the unanimous approval and adoption of the report, as mandated by the Standing Orders of the House.
He attributed this delay to budget-related parliamentary activities that have hindered the committee from assembling.
âThe committee has concluded the investigations, and we have a draft report that is yet to be considered by all the members of the committee because, per the Standing Orders, draft reports are subject to approval by the members of the committee, so that is what is outstanding.â
âUnfortunately, we are in the budget season and all the members are caught up in their various committees and are working on budget estimates. I had warned that there was a need for us to act expeditiously so that we could have skipped the budget season, but things did not happen that way so we are hoping that as soon as we are done with the budget estimates, we can convene and adapt the reportâ, he said.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially suspended Niger’s membership within the regional bloc.
This decision comes in response to the ruling military junta’s refusal to reinstate the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum, who was removed in a military coup in July.
In a statement released on Thursday, ECOWAS acknowledged that Bazoum’s government had been “effectively overthrown in a military coup” during a recent summit of its leaders in Nigeria.
As a consequence, ECOWAS has suspended Niger from its decision-making bodies until “constitutional order is restored in the country.”
Initially perceived as an attempted coup, the delayed suspension was attributed to the evolving situation in Niger. ECOWAS had earlier imposed sanctions and even contemplated military intervention following the coup.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has submitted a proposal to parliament, seeking to revise the current passport application fee from GH¢100 to GH¢400.
The ministry’s proposal is currently under review by the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation of Parliament.
Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the sector minister, highlighted that this adjustment is necessary to prevent financial losses in the production of passport booklets for citizens.
During her address on the floor of parliament on December 14, 2023, Ayorkor Botchwey explained, âIt is time for Ghanaians to pay realistic prices for passports they acquire to travel, beginning next year.”
She further explained that the reconsideration stems from financial challenges within the Ghanaian economy.
The ministry has been compelled to implement these measures as the state can no longer afford to subsidize the expenses associated with printing passports.
Actor Abraham Davis, widely recognized as ‘Salinko,’ has shared the unexpected experience of a man asserting his claim over Salinko’s ex-fiancĂŠe and their 3-month-old infant.
During an appearance on Emelia Brobbey’s ‘Okukuseku’ show, Salinko detailed his substantial investment of resources throughout the pregnancy and subsequent months following the baby’s birth. To his surprise, a stranger appeared, asserting paternal rights over the child.
Salinko underscored the embarrassment he faced during this period, highlighting that his colleagues were acquainted with the ex-fiancĂŠe, and their relationship had spanned several years.
âA lady I was once dating for a while, got pregnant. That wasnât her first pregnancy. We aborted the first one and kept the second one. She gave birth and I looked after the child, took up responsibilities just as a father should.
“All of a sudden, someone shows up that the child is his. This woman is someone everyone around me knows. All my colleagues knew her, not knowing I wasnât the only one she was dating.
âI couldnât think properly. I sent her and the child out of the house. I was in Accra when I received a call that the man showed up at my house in Kumasi. I took the next available flight to Kumasi and asked them to leave my house before I arrive,â he bitterly recounted.
After a recent failed marriage and several other failed relationships, Salinko has since remarried. He claimed that these experiences have made him more strict.
He claimed that it was not his fault that his new wife had to put up with a different side of him.
âIf you ask my wife now, sheâll tell you I am a tough man. I have become very strict and cautious and my wife complains about it but thereâs nothing I can do about it. It is said that we should abandon our past but sometimes we have to draw out the lessons,â he added.
Salinkoâs recent breakup
The Kumawood actor has recently revealed the circumstances leading to his divorce, citing his wife’s decision to end the marriage due to her exhaustion.
Back in 2017, he garnered attention for announcing his marriage and sharing a picture with his wife, earning widespread praise for the union’s apparent joy. However, his happiness was short-lived as his wife later decided to call it quits.
In a prior interview with Poleenu Multimedia, Salinko disclosed that his wife expressed her weariness with the marriage, and this decision not only took a toll on his health but also affected his professional life.
âMadam just said that she is fed up, we went to the father and the father also said he can see the daughter is fed up; no one maltreated her or did anything to her.
âI nearly went mad but I had to manage because initially when I go to the market to sell, I can sit there for a while until someone prompts me before I become conscious of myself. Yes, a lady can tell you that she is fed up without any reason,â he earlier stated.
Social media users criticize fashion critic Charlie Dior for outfit controversy.
Charlie Dior, known for critiquing celebrities’ fashion choices, faced backlash for wearing what netizens deemed an inappropriate ensemble at the GH Queens event.
Dior, dressed in a white shirt, black coat, and a black short skirt, drew ire online, with users highlighting the perceived hypocrisy of criticizing others’ attire while making controversial fashion choices.
Some labeled Dior’s outfit as resembling that of a ‘waitress,’ while others expressed concerns about setting a poor example for the youth and suggested a more appropriate public appearance.
âYou are dressed like the waitresses at my lounge. U can send ur CV through and Iâll give u a job. Such rubbish u wear. Next time, look at urself before u utter any criticism on someone. Mam/ sir,â one person wrote on Instagram.
Another person wrote, âSo can’t anybody pull that skirt down for me so we see his real gender ??? lol.â
One person questioned Charlie Dior’s criticism of celebrities despite his inappropriate attire.
âThis guy who always has an opinion about what people wear yi, i still havent seen him wear anything proper.â
Another individual added,â This one will come and criticise people on what they are wearing.â

Youssef Aitour, the Chief Executive Officer of i2 Development Ghana Limited, advocates for Ghana to adopt a citizenship-by-investment policy.
This approach would encourage more foreign direct investment (FDI) by allowing individuals and families to acquire citizenship and a passport through investments in the country.
With approximately 100 countries already implementing such policies, Aitour suggests that this strategy could boost Ghana’s appeal to investors.
According to Ghana Investment Promotions Center (GIPC) data, the country attracted $1.35 billion in FDI last year, with sectors like services, manufacturing, and oil and gas being the primary beneficiaries.
Aitour highlights the stability of Ghana’s political environment and its attractive returns on investment, particularly in real estate, as factors that could be further leveraged through a citizenship-by-investment policy.
âI call on the government of Ghana to consider a Citizenship by Investment policy to attract more FDI into the country,â he said during his address at the launch of the Prestige project in Accra on Wednesday.
He expressed gratitude to the government for fostering an environment that encouraged investment and made the Prestige project a reality.
âI would like to reiterate our appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its massive contribution to the success of our project that will provide directly and indirectly through our contractors and subcontractors more than 2000 job opportunities.
âWe would like to further acknowledge the government’s effort in ensuring a safe and stable investment climate that makes the influx of investment like ours possible,â he said.
Situated on 2.88 acres of land adjacent to the Airport Shell Fuel Station and directly opposite the Marina Mall, the Prestige development, led by private developer i2 Development Ghana Limited, is set to redefine luxury living in Accra. This project is envisioned to enhance the beauty of the Airport skyline and contribute significantly to boosting the country’s tourism receipts.
The strategic location of the Prestige development ensures convenient access to the best offerings for both leisure and business travelers within a minute. From renowned shopping malls and restaurants to nightclubs, offices of major international companies, and the Kotoka International Airportâall are within 60 seconds reach. The project aims to provide the epitome of luxury living, offering options ranging from studios, one or two-bedroom apartments to penthouses.
With lush green spaces on the ground and at each level, along with the incorporation of sustainable open spaces, the Prestige development aims to create a luxurious sanctuary within the city for residents and visually delight onlookers. The choice of renowned contractor Michelleti and Co. further underscores the commitment to ensuring the quality and excellence of the project.
Improved KIAâs brand image
The availability of sustainable accommodations near airports can attract environmentally conscious travelers. As sustainability becomes an increasingly important consideration for travelers, the presence of eco-friendly hotels and residences can provide a competitive advantage for airports and their associated travel markets.
Moreover, the construction of sustainable residences and hotels can stimulate economic growth by creating job opportunities in the construction, hospitality, and service sectors. These developments can employ local communities, thereby supporting the overall aviation and travel markets.
In addition to economic benefits, sustainable accommodations can also improve the airport’s reputation and contribute to its corporate social responsibility efforts. This can lead to increased stakeholder trust, positive media attention, and a strengthened overall brand image, attracting more airlines and businesses to operate within the airport’s vicinity.
The elders of the Kumasi Traditional Council assert that Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong, former CEO of GNPC and a nominee for the vacant Offinso stool, is not of royal lineage and, therefore, lacks the right to claim the throne.
The council convened a press conference on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, to specifically address concerns surrounding the vacant stool.
A representative of the group stated: âDespite all he is doing, we know he is not a royal. How did we know? His family lineage shows that the woman he came from, claiming she was a royal, the Ahwiriem Royal House knows that she did not give birth, so, how did he come from her?
âOf important note is that no Asantehene belittles tradition, same is the case with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who has given Offinsohemaa the leverage to play her part in nominating a candidate, presenting that candidate to the authorities who will appoint same.
âWe are surprised at her insistence on KK Sarpong, knowing well that he is not a royal. The world must know that Otumfuo is not seeking to change any tradition but to enforce what is fair and right,â he stressed.
The gathering, led by chiefs representing various council divisions, featured notable figures such as Nana Gyedu Kumaninin IV (Amakye Barehene), Akyeamfour Asafo Boakye (Asafohene), Boakye-Ansah Debrah (Asokore Mamponghene), Nana Adu Mensah Asare II (Amakomhene), Nana Apau Sanwoansan (Hemanhene), and Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II (Hiahene).
During the press conference, as the chiefs recounted the history of Offinso, they underscored the authority of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, emphasizing his role in confirming the nomination of an individual to ascend to a stool in the Ashanti Kingdom.
The Council members specifically pointed to the Queen Mother of Offinso, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, as the source of the discord following the rejection of Dr. KK Sarpong as her nominee for the late Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III.
Despite acknowledging that a non-royal could assume the role of Paramount Chief, the chiefs clarified that this could only happen under stringent conditions, specifically when there was no suitable royal candidate available for elevation to the position.
From January 2024, Ghana anticipates over a 30% surge in Motor Insurance Premiums.
The Chief Executive of the Ghana Insurers Association, Dr. Kingsley Kwesi Kwabahson, links the increase to a 21% VAT rate imposed by the government on Non-Life Insurance products.
Additionally, a projected 10% rise in Motor Insurance Premiums adds to the impact.
Dr. Kwabahson disclosed this during an interview on JoyNews PM Express Business Edition on December 14, 2023, as monitored by the media.
The Paramount Chiefof Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Katayie Kwasi Bumangama II, has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to pledge the restoration of the chieftaincy institution’s authority if he emerges victorious in the 2024 elections.
Chief Bumangama II expressed concerns during Mahama’s visit to Sefwi Wiawso as part of his Building Ghana Tour, highlighting the diminished power of traditional leaders to summon individuals who violate local laws.
The chief urged Mahama to commit to reinstating chiefs’ authority to summon those who defy local laws, believing that such a promise would garner widespread support for the former president.
âI am glad you have visited me in my palace. Let me make this point that politicians have taken the powers of the chiefs, who are now powerless to the extent that when we summon people to appear before us, they threaten to take me to court, but this was not the case in the past.
âIf Mahama wants to come back then he should give us that authority again, and if that request is granted all the chief will support him.â
He added, âAkufo-Addo said he has given us a region but the region is not complete, so as he (Mahama) is coming back, what is he coming to support us with to uplift the region to be on the same level with the Ashanti region âŚso this is my request.â

Ghanaian singer and entrepreneur, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, currently striving to set the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, has expressed a desire for support from one of Ghana’s self-acclaimed dance hall Kings, Shatta Wale.
She suggested that Shatta Wale send her the lyrics to some of his songs to facilitate her marathon singing attempt.
Asantewaa made this request during an appearance on GTV’s breakfast show with Kafui Dey. The plea follows a social media post by Shatta Wale expressing his support for her endeavor.
In an interview, Afua said, âI cried when I realized Shatta Wale was in support of my singing marathon and said he is praying that he could make it to the venue on the dayâ.
She added that, âBut I want to tell Shatta that he should send me his patois lyrics, Iâm finding it difficult to get the words rightâ. The singing marathon is going to focus on Ghanaian music from all genres and that is what Afua Asantewaa hopes to achieve. She will be performing non-stop from December 24 to 27 in Accra, Ghana and she aims to sing for 117hours or more.
In Nagpur, India, between March 3 and 7, 2012, Sunil Waghmare, the current record holder, achieved the feat by singing a variety of well-known Indian songs without repeating a note for four hours.
The Third National Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawud Osman, alleges that 60% of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) staff are opposition members.
Additionally, Osman criticizes Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, labeling him as a criminal with corrupt tendencies. He also contends that the size of the office’s staff is excessive for the institution’s needs.
“NDC people were engaged in electoral corruption at the time you were still Special Prosecutor but we heard nothing from you (by way of arrests), all because 60% of staff at the office are NDC sympathizers,” he stated in an interview on Original FM.
He continued: “I can confidently tell you that he is a staunch NDC member and he has employed over 300 staff in his office who have failed to make an impact in fighting corruption.
âThe Special Prosecutor is a very corrupt and criminal person. His work is to eradicate corruption from our system but he is rather working against NPP. Akufo-Addo is committed to fighting corruption which is why he insisted on backing the office of the Special Prosecutor to fight corruption,â he stressed.
Agyebeng has recently discussed the difficulties his office encounters with regard to court rulings.
Radio broadcaster and media personality, Kwabena Marfo, has raised questions about Minister for Communications and Digitalisation Ursula Owusu Ekuful’s perspective on the potential criminalization of sex toys.
Marfo’s remarks were prompted by Ekuful’s warning to parliament about potential unintended consequences in crafting the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
During an interactive session on Neat FMâs morning show on December 13, 2023, Marfo expressed his concerns and questioned the minister’s motives.
He specifically inquired why she advocates against criminalizing sex toys. Marfo argued that the use of such devices carries implications and suggested that there is a necessity for criminalization.
âMadam Ursula Owusu is saying that they shouldn’t criminalize sex toys in the anti-LGBTQI bill, and I am asking her what is she going to use them for.
âIf we don’t criminalize them, what is she going to use them for? I don’t know her problem with that because most women have husbands and boyfriends, and most men also have girlfriends aside from their wives so what is she going to use the sex toys for?
âSo, they should criminalize them because God created men for women to have sex with, and sex toys create a lot of issues⌠some of these sex toys use electricity and it can even shock someone or get stuck in someoneâs vagina,â he said.
Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has cautioned parliament to approach the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill (anti-LGBTQ+ bill) with care to prevent unintended consequences.
Addressing the parliament during the consideration of amendments to the bill on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Owusu-Ekuful, who represents Ablekuma West, expressed reservations about a proposed amendment to Clause 3 of the bill, which suggests the criminalization of sex toys.
She argued against the criminalization of sex toys, stating that they are utilized by both LGBTQ+ individuals and heterosexual individuals to enhance their sexual experiences.
âI think we raised this when the committee was considering it (the bill) that the proposed amendment in 3(c) may create unintended consequences because sexual intercourse between a man and an inanimate object or a woman and an inanimate object would necessarily include sexual intercourse with all manner of aids that couple use to enhance the sexual experience.
âAnd Iâm not sure if thatâs what the intention of this bill is. It would necessarily include sex toys and other aids that couples, heterosexual couples, also use to enhance the sexual experience,â she said.
The Minister continued, âSo if that is what the house intends then we have to be clear in our minds that we may be criminalising activities which may not necessarily be limited to only those LGBTQI community that the target of this bill is, but it may also be targeting straight couples who use sex enhancement tools to enhance the sexual experienceâ.
The MP went ahead to propose the removal of the said amendment from the bill.
âSo, we need to be mindful of the unintended consequences of 3(c) could be. And Iâll propose that 3(c) be deleted from this amendment.â
Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has revealed the challenges he faces due to his advocacy for the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, which has made him a target for institutions supporting same-sex relations.
He shared details about the various attacks he has endured, ranging from public call-outs to cancellations of his appearances on programs unrelated to his specific advocacy.
Addressing the issue of visa bans imposed by certain Western countries, George clarified that he has not personally experienced a ban or visa refusal.
However, he acknowledged that the U.S. embassy had previously subjected him to a three-month delay in processing his visa.
âThey did not refuse me, they delayed it. Parliament sent six applications, including mine. Five were given, mine took an additional three months before it came,â he told Bola Ray on the December 14, 2023, edition of Starr Chat show.
âThey said administrative (issues), that is why I didnât say they refused me,â he reaffirmed talk of having been denied a visa.
He also related a story about being kicked out of a digital rights conference after pro-gay activists objected to his attendance.
âI was invited to speak in Costa Rica at the Digital Rights Conference. The next thing, they (organizers) said they got petitions from around the world against me coming to speak. So, they wrote me and said donât even respond to this email, we donât want to have anything to do with you. I didnât go, they should take their conference,â he added.
Sam George and Seven MPs Champion the Promotion of Proper Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021, Commonly Referred to as the Anti-LGBT Bill”
The bill, currently under consideration in Parliament, is anticipated to be approved and forwarded to the president for assent before the Christmas break.
It has generated significant public debate, with a majority of Ghanaians expressing support despite facing strong opposition from certain quarters.
IC Research has it that, inflation for the year 2023 is projected to conclude at around 27.3% +/- 1.0, exceeding the government’s upper target of 31.4% and central target of 29.4%.
The research report highlights expectations for a hastening pace of disinflation in the second half of 2023, attributed to favorable base effects, reduced food prices, decreased impact of earlier tax hikes, and a slowdown in the depreciation of the cedi post-January 2023.
IC Research attributes this trend to a suitably tight monetary policy stance, including the discontinuation of Central Bank financing for the Treasury’s budget deficit.
The report anticipates a cumulative decline to 35.2% in October 2023, with a potential full-year closure at 27.3% +/- 1.0 percentage points.
The declining momentum is envisioned to persist into 2024, supported by the prevailing tight monetary stance and the ongoing IMF program as key policy anchors.
However, the report foresees a temporary upside deviation in March 2024 due to an unfavorable base drift effect. From May to July 2024, favorable base effects are expected to outweigh seasonal food price shocks, exerting downward pressure on headline inflation in the second half of 2023.
In October 2023, year-on-year inflation decreased to 35.2% from September’s 38.1%, primarily attributed to a marginal drop in food inflation.
Food inflation stood at 44.8%, while non-food inflation was at 27.7%. Additionally, locally produced items experienced inflation of 34.4%, while imported items recorded 34.4%, down from 37.4% in the previous month, according to data from the Ghana Statistical Service.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued recent developments regarding an accusation that three government officials were harboring up to US$100 million within their residences.
This claim, initially presented in September 2023 by Listowel Nana Kusi-Poku, the Executive Director of the Good Governance Advocacy Group Ghana (GGAGG), prompted a challenge to the OSP to investigate.
In an interview on Accra FM on September 4, 2023, Kusi-Poku urged the OSP to commence an inquiry into his allegations, asserting that he could guide the office to the location of the $100 million held by these politicians.
Furthermore, he declared that failure to assist the OSP in locating the funds should result in a life imprisonment sentence for himself.
However, the OSP has confirmed that Kusi-Poku did not provide the necessary support to facilitate the follow-up on his allegations. This information surfaced during an exchange on X (formerly Twitter) this week when the OSP was prompted by a tweet to provide updates on the specific issue.
“OSP followed up. But, he is yet to supply the information,” the office responded to a video in which Kusi-Poku was making his allegations.
The accusations followed the arrest of former sanitation minister Cecilia Dapaah’s housemaids after it was discovered that they had taken more than a million dollars in cash as well as smaller amounts in euros and cedis.
What Kusi-Poku said
âThe special prosecutor should come and pick me up so that I would take him to the home of three politicians. We are going to dig the ground in these houses and if we donât get $100, I should be jailed forever.
âThese three people are even at the lower levels of this government. I am throwing this challenge to the special prosecutor because he is the only one who has the authority to, out of suspicion, investigate such matters,â he said in Twi.

Head of the Conduct Supervision Unit at the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Augustine Donkor, has clarified that being the next of kin to a deceased individual doesn’t automatically grant legal rights to inherit assets or money from their bank account.
During a workshop in Accra aimed at reviewing the National Financial Education Campaign’s implementation, Mr. Donkor explained that the role of the next of kin in the banking sector primarily involves assisting institutions in reaching the account holder, especially in cases of dormant accounts or necessary updates.
Despite the common belief, Mr. Donkor stressed that legal processes such as wills or letters of administration play a crucial role in determining access to the funds left by the deceased.
Financial institutions, following specific legal procedures, attempt to contact the account holder when an account becomes dormant. If unsuccessful, the institution may involve the next of kin in facilitating communication, with access to funds subject to legal scrutiny.
Mr. Donkor highlighted the importance of accurate information about next of kin to contribute to a robust financial ecosystem. He affirmed the BoG’s commitment to ensuring a well-informed and confident populace in financial matters.

The podcaster delved into personal finances, asking Brain Jotter about his earnings and net worth.
In response, Brain Jotter conveyed his discomfort with such inquiries, emphasizing that he wants his fans to be inspired by his content, interactions, and consistency rather than focusing on his net worth.
The skit maker expressed that the value he provides through his work is more significant than any monetary measure.
The podcaster continued to ask about his “drip check,” prompting Brain Jotter to question the obsession with financial aspects.
He dismissed the second question as equally senseless but eventually shared details about his jacket and chain, bought from the UK.
The incident unfolded during the podcast interview, reflecting Brain Jotter’s stance on prioritizing creativity and content over financial discussions.
The Executive Director of the Ghana Environmental Advocacy Group, Elizabeth Alua Vaah, has expressed alarm over the reported participation of security officials in illegal mining activities.
Madam Vaah raised concerns about the alleged protection provided by security personnel to both local and foreign individuals engaged in illegal mining, resulting in the ongoing destruction of crucial forest reserves without facing legal consequences.
Furthermore, she highlighted a troubling incident in Axim, where a young man engaged in illegal mining reported such activities after being deceived.
Unfortunately, he was subsequently imprisoned, while there have been no updates regarding the legal consequences for the involved security officials.
âThe Axim one I mentioned, I understand the young man is in jail now and I keep asking myself, what happened to the policemen because if we listen carefully he had been working for them until he got tired of being ‘robbed of working for nothing’. That was when he accosted them eventually, ” she said on the AM Show on JoyNews.
“You have been trained as a security officer on the Ghanaian taxpayerâs dime and instead of protecting the country, protecting the people, you are rather protecting those who are sabotaging, devouring the country. They should even be punished more,” she added.
Mrs. Vaah voiced apprehension regarding the justice system, contending that individuals in positions of authority, encompassing security forces and civilians, frequently elude accountability due to their affiliations with influential figures.
She underscored the repercussions of high-level impunity and warned that unless those in leadership positions are held accountable, this pattern might persist, permitting individuals to avoid repercussions for their actions.
In her view, the behavior of security personnel often conforms to the directives of those who appointed them.
âIf they say for allowing so and so to happen without any consequence you lose your job, you think they will just watch these things happen and no consequences, no but right now in the country, itâs like depending on who you know, you can do whatever it is and get away with it.Â
It permeates every aspect of our lives right now so discipline is not there, there is no accountability and nobody is held accountable for what they doâ.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has recently made changes to the nursing degree program, reducing the duration to two years specifically for diploma-holding nurses.
This adjustment comes as a result of the elevation of the KNUST Department of Nursing to the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
“For all diploma holders now your top-up to degree Bsc will take 2 years. What it means is that you all have to take advantage of this,” she said.
Prof. Mrs. Dickson made this statement during the 10th Graduation of the Ministry of Health Training Institutions held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature, Pinned Messages, aimed at simplifying the retrieval of important messages. This feature is now available globally for both individual and group chats.
Similar to Telegram, WhatsApp users can now pin a message to the top of the chat window, with the capability to pin various message types, including text, polls, emojis, locations, and images.
However, it’s important to note that only one message can be pinned at a time.
While users have been requesting this Telegram-like functionality for a while, WhatsApp’s implementation limits users to pinning a single message, unlike Telegram, where multiple messages can be pinned in a conversation.
The Pinned Messages feature proves handy for various scenarios. For instance, when visiting a friend’s place for the first time, they can pin their address at the top of the chat for easy access. In group chats, important information about an event or rules can be pinned for quick reference.
For group chats, admins have the option to decide whether only admins or any member can pin a message.
How to pin messages on WhatsApp:
Step 1: Open WhatsApp >> go to chat
Step 2: To âPinâ a message, the user just has to long press on the message, and select âPinâ from the context menu.
Then, a banner will appear to select the duration of the pinned message: 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days.
It should be noted that seven days is the default choice. In a group chat, admins have the option to select if all members or only admins can pin a message.
In an ongoing press briefing at the Ministry of Information on December 14, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, passionately urged artists and DJs to cultivate mutual respect and collaboration within the entertainment industry.
He emphasized the need for DJs to put aside any grievances with performers, refrain from harboring feelings of disrespect, and prioritize the overall well-being of the industry.
âDJs, we beg you, let sleeping dogs lie. I know some of the challenges. You say that the industry people do not respect you. You make them stars and then they look down on you afterwards. How long will we go with this? So for the country’s sake, let sleeping dogs lie,â he said.
The minister extended his plea to performers, emphasizing the significance of acknowledging and valuing the contributions of DJs, managers, road managers, and other behind-the-scenes professionals.
He underscored the mutually beneficial relationship between artists and their supporting teams, urging performers to show respect to everyone involved in their success.
âPerformers, you need the DJs, the back office people, your managers, and your road managers; respect them. You cannot get to where you want to go without them,â he pleaded.
He went on to emphasize the mutually beneficial relationship that exists between artists and their support staff, advising performers to show gratitude to everyone who has contributed to their success.
âThis is where this whole challenge of not playing Ghana, the root, begins. Let’s coexist; let’s respect each other so we can work together. And so this Christmas; nightclubs, restaurants, pubs, TV stations, presenters, even churchesâit’s intentional. Let the Ghanaian music play; it’s about time,â he said.
The deputy minister’s pleas come amidst debates over the future of the Ghanaian music industry and calls for more support from stakeholders.

In the course of a live studio discussion on Hitz FM on December 13, George Quaye, Ghanaian playwright and CEO of Image Bureau, disclosed that he had to pay a substantial amount of GH¢60,000 in taxes, while his production outfit only earned GH¢4,000 in profits from the initial showing of his latest stage production, “The Gods are not to Blame.”
Expressing his sentiments, Quaye highlighted the significant portion that the government received from the show’s earnings, making it the primary beneficiary of the night.
While acknowledging the importance of paying taxes, he expressed a desire for greater transparency in how tax revenues are utilized by the government.
Quaye emphasized that he would be more content knowing that his taxes contribute to enhancing public infrastructure, particularly benefiting institutions like the National Theatre that directly serve the public.
âAfter putting up ‘The Gods Are Not to Blame’, I was looking at the taxes that we have to pay as compared to the other expenses. The biggest beneficiary was the government. And you know the taxes; they take it straight at the door. After everything, we paid a tax of almost GH¢60,000. Meanwhile, our profit as Image Bureau was GH¢4,000.
âI have no problem, but I would be happy to pay taxes if I entered the venue where the play was hosted, the National Theatre and the air conditioning was working, the washrooms were tidy, the seats were comfortable and I could see that that was what the government did with our taxes. I would be happier,â he said.
December 2 and 3 saw two performances of the play, at 4 and 8 p.m. each day.
It is anticipated to take place once more on December 18, 19, and 20.
Former Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has shared her unconventional preference, stating that she does not appreciate men who know how to cook, contrary to the prevalent choice among many women today.
She elaborated on her stance, highlighting her satisfaction in cooking for her husband, emphasizing her role as a wife to a responsible man.
The Nigerian celebrity disagreed with her friends’ inclination towards men who possess cooking skills. Hilda Baci expressed her desire for a man who would order food for her when needed, rather than one who is adept at cooking.
âI don’t want a man that knows how to cook because I like cooking so much. My friends would tell you, like, how Hilda would show you love. She will send you food, she’ll cook for you. So that’s kind of one of the things I like to do for people that I care about, especially for my man. You can wake me up in the middle of the night and say âBabe, I want a doughnut or meat pie,â and I’m flying to the kitchen to make it for you, that is my thing.
“I want a man that can order me food. If you don’t have a problem ordering me food, I’m in love but I don’t want a man that knows how to cook,â she said in a video shared by Marigyata on Instagram.
Social media users have responded to Hilda Baci’s remark in a variety of ways.
Policy think-tank IMANI has restated its stance on the terms associated with Ghana’s inaugural lithium mining deal, emphasizing the need for the government to offer comprehensive clarity on the agreement with Barari DV Limited.
IMANI contends that the government’s indications of the deal being in the best interest of Ghanaians lack proper elaboration, prompting the call for further clarification on the matter.
In a brief titled ‘Green Economy Brief,’ as reported by GhanaWeb Business, IMANI maintains that it is essential for both the government and the company (Barari DV Limited) to articulate their mutual expectations regarding the conditions necessary for refining.
This, according to IMANI, would facilitate tracking and understanding the key aspects of the agreement.
âWhether it is profitability level, raw lithium availability, electricity pricing and availability, tax waivers for complementary imports, or whatever may be required, the text should be clear so that civil society and others can monitor progress towards value addition, which everyone agrees is essential considering Ghanaâs history with mining.
âIn the same light, ‘refining’ should be clarified so that the public will know what end-products or intermediaries are in line with the countryâs value addition strategy. There are several stages in the refining process of lithium. Value is unfortunately not added uniformly at every stage,â it stated.
IMANI underscores the importance of clearly outlining expectations in the agreement to enable vigilant monitoring of this critical mineral resource.
In the meantime, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has defended the decision to grant a 15-year mining lease to Barari DV Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Atlantic Lithium Limited, for lithium construction and mining at Ewoyaa in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The lease incorporates new and improved terms designed to ensure that the country reaps the benefits of this valuable mineral. The issuance of the mining lease followed the company’s completion of prospecting and feasibility studies, along with extensive negotiations between the government and the company.
Covering an area of approximately 42.63 square kilometers, the lease grants the company exclusive rights to work and produce lithium and associated minerals in accordance with the country’s mining laws.
In response to gospel artiste Sonnie Badu’s recent accusation against Dr. Kweku Oteng, the CEO of Angel Group of Companies, prominent Ghanaian media personality Afia Pokua, also known as Vim Lady, has expressed her disapproval of the gospel musician bringing the matter into the public domain.
On December 13, Vim Lady took to her Facebook page to chastise Sonnie Badu for discussing the issue publicly.
She emphasized the importance of building and maintaining positive relationships with brands for future opportunities and suggested that Sonnie Badu’s public airing of the matter with Dr. Kweku Oteng could potentially impact his chances of securing sponsorships from other companies in the future.
âThis guy paaa! This is an issue you don’t even speak about publicly. You build on the relationship for future sponsorship opportunities. This matter that you have put on blast, letting the ‘cat out of the bag’ which company will feel comfortable associating with you and sponsor you in the future? Sometimes we for gbordgidi small on some information,â she said.
Vim Lady emphasized that obtaining brand sponsorships necessitated a calculated strategy.
She asserts that companies do not award sponsorships “on a silver platter” and that they require evidence of the potential revenue and brand exposure in exchange for sponsorships.
âSponsorships are not given on silver platter. You PITCH your idea to the big brands based on data that shows what value they will get(brand exposure, awareness, sales) Companies like MTN, Vodafone, or even Adonko will not hand you money just like that. Are they Father Christmas companies?â she quizzed.

In a meeting with physicians and surgeons in Accra, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo disclosed the government’s commitment to integrate mental health care into the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Stressing the collective responsibility towards mental health, he emphasized the importance of ensuring universal coverage by making specialized professionals available in hospitals across the nation, as reported by citinewsroom.com.
âNext year, mental healthcare will be added to the benefits package on the National Health Insurance Scheme. We recognize, however, that the key to achieving the target of universal health coverage is the availability of specialists to serve in all hospitals in the country. It is about time we begin to set our targets higher,â he said.
To ensure that Ghana achieves its objectives for universal health coverage, the president called for strong cooperation amongst the country’s various health professional associations.
He said, âThese targets, which are being achieved by the developed world where doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals migrate to, can be achieved by Ghana
âThe Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Ghana Medical and Dental Council, the Ghana Health Service, and the Ministry of Health must work together to ensure that we also achieve this target,â he added.
To pave the way for universal health coverage by 2030, the Ministry of Health has instituted policies and strategic measures.
A key initiative in this endeavor is the revised National Health Policy, designed to address all social determinants of health in alignment with the ‘health in all and one health policy.’
Madam Tina Naa Ayele Mensah, the Deputy Minister for Health, shared these insights during the 2023 International Universal Health Day held on Tuesday in Accra.
She said, âIn our bid to ensure full operationalization of the revised National Health Policy, we developed the UHC roadmap, which is serving as our guide to achieving UHC for all Ghanaians by 2030.â
She noted that the Ministry has updated the National Health Policy, outlining a framework to address all social determinants of health in accordance with the ‘health in all and one health policy.’
She said, âThrough the UHC roadmap, we have set for ourselves a UHC vision of ensuring that all people living in Ghana have timely access to high-quality health services irrespective of ability to pay at the point of use.â
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, emphasized that the chosen theme aligns with the national health policy, emphasizing the crucial need to invest in resilient health systems for the attainment of health for all. He reiterated the ministry’s unwavering commitment to implementing necessary interventions to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for the people of Ghana.
Representing the WHO Country Representative, Dr. Felicia Owusu Antwi highlighted insights from the 2023 global monitoring report, indicating a stagnation in the expansion of health service coverage and a deterioration in financial protection for those accessing health services.
She underscored that approximately half of the global population, totaling 4.5 billion people, lacked coverage for essential health services. This stark reality emphasizes the significant effort and public investment required to attain the goal of UHC by 2030.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) and the global community observed the 2023 International Universal Health Day under the theme, ‘Health for All: Time for Action.’ The event aimed to raise awareness about the imperative of robust and resilient health systems and the pursuit of universal health coverage through collaborative efforts across stakeholders.
Additionally, it served as a platform for policymakers and duty-bearers to monitor progress towards achieving UHC by the year 2030.
In a significant development, Kenya has unveiled plans to eliminate visa requirements for visitors worldwide, effective from January 2024.
President William Ruto made this groundbreaking announcement on December 12, with the aim of bolstering tourism and fostering international connections.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to streamline entry procedures through a newly established digital platform.
President Ruto highlighted that the innovative platform would facilitate the issuance of electronic travel authorization, eliminating the cumbersome visa application process.
Speaking at an event in Nairobi commemorating Kenya’s 60 years of independence, President Ruto expressed his commitment to simplifying travel and declared that individuals globally would no longer need a visa to visit Kenya.
This visionary decision aligns with President Ruto’s longstanding advocacy for visa-free travel within the African continent.
The president had previously outlined his vision for visa exemptions at a conference in the Republic of Congo in October, where he announced that citizens of African countries would enjoy visa-free access to Kenya by the end of 2023.
This move reflects a broader effort to enhance regional cooperation and strengthen ties among African nations.
Given Kenya’s reliance on tourism as a key economic driver, renowned for its diverse landscapes and vibrant culture, the decision to waive visa requirements aims to attract more international visitors.
This move provides an opportunity for travelers to explore the country’s picturesque Indian Ocean coastline and engage in thrilling wildlife safaris.
President Ruto extended the nation’s hospitality by declaring, “Kenya has a simple message to humanity: Welcome Home!”Â
This sentiment stresses the country’s commitment to fostering an open and inclusive environment for global travelers, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to position itself as a top destination for tourism and cultural exchange.

In an emotional interview with Fox News Digital, a woman approaching her 39th birthday shared her sense of feeling “betrayed by feminism” after expressing her desire to settle down, have a family, and a husband.
During the discussion, she tearfully described her fears of ending up alone and without children.
The woman recounted her journey in a post on Business Insider, revealing that in her early 20s, she had initially aspired to pursue an urban career but later married her childhood sweetheart.
Her perspective shifted, and she desired a simple, traditional, small-town household, with a focus on being a wife and mother.
In her first marriage, she admitted to not envisioning herself as a typical wife and mother in her 20s. Initially resistant to the idea of children, she confessed to feeling resentful when her husband asked her to perform traditional domestic tasks. The couple divorced when she was 30, and she wrote that, at the time, she believed she was happy.
âI told my friends and family Iâd never get married again,â she wrote. âI needed independence, a fulfilling career, and space to chart my own course, and I didnât think marriage fit into that vision. I was content to look toward a future without a husband, children, or the trappings of a âtraditionalâ life.â
Following the widespread attention garnered by her essay, Melissa sat down for an interview with Fox News Digital, where she emotionally broke down on camera while expressing her concerns about the prospect of being a childless middle-aged woman.
In addition to grappling with her internal struggles, Melissa revealed she has been subjected to cruel trolling since publishing her piece. She shared that she has received a barrage of messages from men using derogatory language, labeling her as ‘selfish’ and a ‘stupid feminist’ for prioritizing her career over having children.
Although Melissa clarified that she does not identify as a feminist, she believes that feminism is partially responsible for her current predicament.
âI feel unbelievably betrayed by feminism,â she told Fox News. âI donât want to put it on the movement [entirely] because I believe you make your own choices, and everything Iâve done up until this point in my life has been my choice, and thatâs on me.â
However, she consistently asserted that she had been constantly exposed to the notion that women can achieve anything independently and don’t require men. Over time, she has come to realize that this perspective may not be entirely accurate.
While we remain uncertain about attributing any blame to feminism in this situation, for those contemplating their life choices, similar to Melissa’s introspection, it’s essential to recognize that there are always alternatives, and it’s never too late to instigate changes in one’s life.
Taylor Swift once expressed that if she weren’t a record-breaking, hit-making, three-time-Grammy-album-of-the-year-winning superstar (those are our adjectives, not hers), she would have chosen to return to the classroom.
âI would have gone to college, and I would probably be involved with a form of business where words and ideas are at the forefront,â she told GQ in 2015. âSuch as marketing.â
While she may be too famous to enroll in a business class for a marketing degree, Taylor Swift’s music and persona are now subjects of academic scrutiny on college campuses, catering to both Swifties and the general student population.
Universities across the United States, including prestigious institutions like Harvard, the University of Texas at Austin, and Stanford, have introduced courses delving into Swift’s body of work and the extensive discourse surrounding her career and life spanning over a decade. This recognition is a fitting tribute to the singer-songwriter, whose fame and success have reached new heights in 2023.
In the current semester at Arizona State, students can enroll in a course exploring the psychology of Swift’s songs. Meanwhile, at the University of Florida, honors students will delve into the role of women in popular music, starting with Swift and progressing to iconic figures like Dolly Parton and Aretha Franklin.
At UC Berkeley, Swift serves as the muse for a business course focused on artistic entrepreneurship, celebrating her meticulous image crafting and her efforts to assert ownership over her work. Furthermore, her prowess as a wordsmith is showcased in numerous English classes that draw parallels between her work and that of literary giants, ranging from Shakespeare to Yeats.
Taylor Swift, in this academic context, acts as something of an academic Trojan horse â her name in a course description grabs immediate attention, but instructors leverage her global fame to make potentially complex subjects more engaging, framing them through the lens of arguably the most famous woman on Earth, or at the very least, Time’s “Person of the Year” for 2023.”
â(Swift) gives us this lever to talk about what weâre otherwise having more difficulty convincing people is important,â said Elizabeth Scala, a professor of medieval romance, historiography and culture at the University of Texas at Austin, who next semester will reprise her literary studies course that uses Swiftâs songbook as one of its primary texts.
The student reception has been overwhelmingly positive: Melina Jimenez, a senior lecturer set to teach the upcoming Swift course at the University of Florida, revealed that her class, limited to 15 students, reached full capacity within seconds of registration opening.
According to instructors familiar with teaching Swift’s work, her music has a unique ability to accomplish what many academics have struggled with in the past â genuinely inspire students to be enthusiastic about learning. Additionally, drawing comparisons between Chaucer’s work and one of Swift’s catchy tunes makes writing an essay about Chaucer a much more accessible task.
Swiftâs appeal to students has made classes engaging and exciting
Prior to instructing their individual classes on Swift, the singer-songwriter had made several inroads into the lives of their teachers: Scala’s younger daughter, a devoted fan of Swift, questions her mother about her top “Taylor’s Version” vault songs. Since Jimenez is not a Swiftie, she was unable to understand the conversations between her students that focused on Swift.
âSheâs the last monoculture,â Scala said. âEverybody can come together and enjoy (her music). Itâs both highly specific and biographical but also really, really relatable to anyone.â
Scalaâs literary studies class used to get students hooked through J.K. Rowlingâs wildly popular âHarry Potterâ series, but she was growing bored with the curriculum sheâd built around the boy who lived. Then, in late 2021, Scala along with millions watched the premiere of Swiftâs âAll Too Wellâ short film, depicting a relationship gone sour set to the new, lengthier version of a song from Swiftâs album âRed.â
While listening to âAll Too Well,â Scala started, nearly inadvertently, drawing a curriculum around the song. She heard in its lyrics comparisons to the works of Homer. She found Swift playing with different literary forms and traditions. Even the debate between which version of the song was the true iteration felt like its own lesson.
âThatâs when the popcorn went off in my head,â Scala said.
She consulted her daughter, a dedicated Swiftie, to ensure that the Swift-centric course would captivate fans as much as it did her, an academic. Reassuringly, her daughter predicted that the course would likely become one of the most popular offerings at the University of Texas at Austin.
The inaugural edition of her Swift course, titled ‘The Taylor Swift Songbook,’ was introduced in 2022. It marked one of the pioneering Swift-themed classes at a major university, alongside New York University’s exploration of the ‘appeal and aversions’ of Swift, led by Rolling Stone journalist Brittany Spanos.
Suddenly, Scala’s students discovered new layers of appreciation for ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ a Shakespearean play often encountered with weariness by high schoolers. By framing Romeo and Juliet’s initial encounter as a song, likening their exchange of flowery quatrains to crafting a sonnet, Scala breathed new life into the centuries-old text that had previously seemed dull to her students. Swift’s incorporation of Shakespeare’s doomed lovers into one of her early popular songs also contributed to their renewed interest.
Jimenez’s decision to offer her course at UF is driven by a desire to delve into the intense idolatry surrounding Swift. Swift’s fame has soared since her debut, defying critics who thought ‘1989’ marked her artistic peak. The subsequent releases of ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore,’ featuring collaborations with respected indie artists, followed by ‘Taylor’s Versions’ and ‘Midnights,’ further solidified her influence. This year, Swift embarked on the record-breaking Eras Tour, the highest-grossing concert tour in history. Simultaneously, she documented the tour for a film version, creating yet another cultural phenomenon.
While Jimenez may not have been a lifelong Swiftie like many of her students, she recognized the cultural impact of women artists who paved the way for Swift. Figures like Parton, Franklin, and Billie Holiday are acknowledged as feminist icons who have indelibly shaped their industry and art.
âMore than anything else, selfishly, I want to learn what makes Swift so interesting for young people,â Jimenez said. âBut I also want to find connections with other women artists who have stirred similar feelings with older generations, and hopefully introduce (them to) students (who) hadnât given (them) much thought because they hadnât spent the same time with their lyrics.â
The classes ask hard questions about Swift, too
While these Swift-centric classes attract substantial enrollment, often comprising Swifties as both students and instructors, they aren’t centered around idol worship.
Katherine Jeng, a student at Rice University, who taught the one-credit class ‘Miss Americana: The Evolution and Lyrics of Taylor Swift’ this semester, emphasized the importance of acknowledging criticisms of Taylor Swift in her curriculum. This includes addressing accusations of ‘rainbow capitalism’âpublicly supporting the LGBTQ community for financial gainâon the album ‘Lover,’ as well as scrutiny for remaining publicly apolitical until after the 2016 election.
Jeng aimed to facilitate these discussions within the classroom, mirroring the conversations taking place among her fellow students outside. The goal was to create an environment that encourages students to recognize that it’s acceptable to admire a pop culture icon who, like everyone, is a work-in-progress.
âI wanted to make sure we allowed for space to recognize how sheâs learning and growing as a person and as a celebrity,â she said.
Taking Swift seriously, flaws and all, has been a major element of her public reappraisal since âReputation,â her 2017 album recorded after a public flap with Kanye West and his then-wife Kim Kardashian. Sheâs been a critical darling throughout her career, but her public relationships have often outshone whatever art sheâs making. Her early materialâs focus on girlhood, young love and heartbreak, among other familiar themes to anyone whoâs been 16, hasnât always been considered serious work worthy of recognition.
But Ava Jeffs has always taken Swift seriously. The Stanford sophomore views each of her albums as self-contained storybooks, with their own worlds, characters, motifs. Sheâs grown up with Swift, relating more to her music the older she gets. She even wrote her Stanford application essay on Swiftâs song âClean,â the final track on her renowned â1989,â which she rerecorded this year.
â(Swift) kind of, in a way, helped me get here,â Jeffs told CNN.
In the spring, sheâll teach a course about Swiftâs narrative storytelling through song. She sees Swift as a lifelong English teacher, in a way, and her close reads of Swiftâs songs have prepared her for her first time teaching, she said.
âThey can get as much out of the work as I did, and as I do now,â Jeffs said. âThey can use that in their own life to process things. Thatâs what people get from stories and songs â someone putting into words what you canât sometimes. I think thatâs what Taylorâs always done.â
In a gesture of reconciliation, Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu, has issued an apology to Dr. Kweku Oteng, CEO of the Angel Group of Companies.
This follows a public callout by Sonnie Badu for not receiving a response to his call, despite Dr. Kweku Oteng’s earlier commitment to financially support his concert.
Sonnie Badu explained that he chose to address the matter publicly due to growing frustration caused by the misconception that Dr. Kweku Oteng had supported the concert, which was not the case.
Expressing regret, Sonnie Badu acknowledged learning from the incident and pledged not to repeat such actions in the future, recognizing the potential impact on his relationships with prominent individuals.
âLet me use my platform to apologize to Dr. Kweku Oteng for calling him out on Okay 101.7FM – for not sponsoring my concert, âRhythms of Africaâ. For those of you who donât know: I remained loyal to him and honored him gracefully in Atlanta, Georgia.
âNonetheless, I apologize sincerely to Dr. Oteng for bringing this out in the public domain. I have learnt my lesson not to depend on man and indeed, when I turned back to God, he surprised me and made âRhythms of Africaâ, arguably one of the best events in Ghana thus far,â he wrote on his Instagram page.
What precipitated Sonnie Badu’s public outburst regarding Dr. Kweku Oteng was revealed.
âI must admit that it was extremely frustrating that an impression was created that Dr. Oteng had supported the successful concert that took place at the Grand Arena over the weekend and I felt the need to clear the air.â

Let me use my platform to apologize to Dr. Kweku Oteng for calling him out on Okay 101.7FM – for not sponsoring my concert, âRhythms of Africaâ.
For those of you who donât know: I remained loyal to him and honored him gracefully in Atlanta, Georgia.
For my major concert in Atlanta, Dr. Oteng promised to support the project but came up short.
For the recently held concert in Ghana, I paid a courtesy call on him and once again, he pledged to support the project, only for him to disappoint me again – after placing so much trust in his words and hoping he would make amends for his earlier failed promise.
After my visit to him, I excitingly posted on my social media platforms about his willingness to support the project.

In a heated exchange on Okay FM, popular gospel artistSonnie Badu clashed with entertainment journalist MzGee while discussing financial aspects of his Rhythms of Africa concert.
MzGee raised questions about potential financial challenges and losses, considering Sonnie Badu’s previous remarks on limited sponsorship and financial constraints.
Expressing his frustration, Sonnie Badu challenged MzGee for probing into financial matters despite his earlier disclosure of the difficulties he faced with the concert.
He proceeded to outline the investments he had made and anticipated revenue from the event. The conversation, monitored by GhanaWeb, captured the tense interaction between Sonnie Badu and MzGee.
MzGee: Please, someone may ask, the concert that you held, did you run at a loss?
Sonnie Badu: Canât you see with what I did I have run at a loss? What question are you asking?
MzGee: I asked because you said you sold tickets to about 6,000 people.
Sonnie Badu: We have not even sat down to check the tickets we sold or whatever, I donât even have that time. I am talking about what we invested into the concert including travelling, plane tickets and others, I donât even want to go there.
After complaining about insufficient sponsorship and lack of support, many have questioned whether Sonnie Badu made money from his concert.
The anticipated scarcity of premix fuel for fishing is expected to lead to an increase in fish prices during the upcoming festive season, as revealed by Eric Opoku, the Minority Spokesperson on Food and Agriculture.
He emphasized that the heightened demand for this essential commodity will be a key factor contributing to the price surge. This disclosure was made during his contribution to the debate on the approval of the budget for the Fisheries Ministry.
âThe price of fish is likely to go up during the festivities because the demand will rise.”
He clarified that the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture did not receive the anticipated volume of premix fuel required for distribution to fishermen. Consequently, fishermen were compelled to buy this vital commodity directly from the market, resulting in elevated prices.
âIn 2023, the premix secretariat targeted the supply of 107 million litres of premix fuel. Unfortunately, as of the end of September, the secretariat is reporting that only 25 million litres have been discharged,’ Eric Opoku said.
âOut of 107 million, within the same period last year, the ministry was able to do 39 million. So, you see that this year, the fishers are not getting premix fuel. The only explanation the ministry gave was that suppliers are unwilling to supply the premix because of the forex losses. The vulnerability in the exchange rate leading to forex losses as a result of which our farmers are not getting the premix fuel,â he added.
Recall that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia highlighted the introduction of digital canoe identification cards as a solution to eliminate the challenges associated with acquiring premix fuel, including stress and hoarding. The newly implemented digital system enables fisherfolk to conveniently access the required quantity of premix fuel at the pumps using their digital Canoe Identification Cards, linked to their vessels.
This system generates crucial data for re-ordering, with each order being closely monitored and measured against timelines to enhance delivery efficiency. Officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture emphasize that the automation system incorporates multiple modules, allowing stakeholders to track and observe real-time information on orders, transportation, delivery, and fueling transactions.
Director of the Institute of African Studies, Prof Samuel Ntewusu, emphasizes the tendency of Ghanaians to swiftly criticize any idea aimed at positive change.
He advises openness and encourages allowing individuals the opportunity to implement their ideas before passing judgment.
Prof Ntewusu questions the criticism directed at the 24-hour economy proposal put forth by NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
In an interview with JoyNews on the sidelines of Anton Wilhelm Amo Lecture held on Tuesday, Prof Ntewusu said, âI think in Ghana we are very quick to condemn anything that somebody wants to bring on board. It is not good for the development of the country. Even if you meet someone on the streets and the person says âI have this idea,â do not be quick to dispense that personâs proposal. Allow the person to try out what he has in mind. If it doesnât work out, then you know that that doesnât work”.
“So if Mahama says he is going to roll out the 24-hour economy, he hasnât even started, and people have started condemning it. I am not saying this in support of a particular party; I am saying that we Ghanaians and Africans are almost like âkonogo kayaâ we cannot carry, and we will not let anyone else carry. And weâre very quick to rejoice when somebody fails rather than support that person to succeed,â the professor stressed.
John Dramani Mahama has declared his plan to implement a 24-hour economy if re-elected as the President of Ghana in 2024.
He believes that this initiative will inject new vitality into the struggling economy, currently operating under an IMF bailout program.
What is the 24-Hour Economy?
The concept of a 24-hour economy involves implementing measures to facilitate continuous business operations across various sectors throughout both day and night. This approach essentially establishes distinct night and day economies, operating on a three-shift system of 8 hours each.
The objective is to cultivate an environment that fosters productivity, competitiveness, and the creation of well-paying jobs.
The strategy aims to make the economy equally vibrant during both day and night, thereby generating additional employment opportunities. Businesses are expected to adopt measures such as increasing staff levels and implementing shift systems to ensure continuous operation every hour of the day.
Since John Mahama announced his intention to introduce this economic model, public reactions have been mixed, with some vehemently criticizing and others commending the proposal.
The Institute of Economic Affairs’ Director of Research, Dr. John Kwakye, urges the Ghana Stock Exchange to move away from upholding colonial concepts and instead address the ownership concerns related to the nation’s mineral resources.
Dr. Kwakye emphasizes that prioritizing ownership issues is essential. These remarks come in light of the Ghana Stock Exchange’s collaboration with various stakeholders to create climate finance and carbon trading instruments.
âPlease let’s sort out ownership of our mineral first before you start talking about listing on the GSE. Don’t just propagate colonial concepts. The colonial African is even more dangerous than his colonial master,â he wrote on X on December 13, 2023.
The Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), Abena Amoah, has revealed the exchange’s intention to collaborate with the Ghana Carbon Market Office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), along with all capital market stakeholders and the business community.
The goal is to thoughtfully develop climate finance and carbon trading mechanisms that will attract domestic, regional, and international capital to support the country’s just transition targets by 2070.
Amoah made this announcement during the inaugural GSE Ring the Bell for Climate Change initiative, dedicated to highlighting and celebrating issuers on the GSE market that have implemented innovative technologies to address climate change in Ghana.
With an estimated requirement of approximately $562 billion, Ghana aims to finance its energy transition and achieve a net-zero emission target by 2070. This ambitious objective aligns with the National Energy Transition Framework, which aims to decarbonize the energy sector.
The Ghanaian public is being alerted by the Ministry of National Security regarding the identification of a recently discovered malicious malware embedded in modified versions of WhatsApp and Telegram designed for Android devices.
According to a statement directed to the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the malware was uncovered through research conducted by Kaspersky, a multinational cybersecurity firm.
Kaspersky has revealed that the newly identified malware, named ‘CanesSpy,’ operates in Arabic and Azerbaijani code.
This malware poses a significant threat as it has the capability to extract sensitive information, including International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), phone number, mobile country code, mobile network code, and details of the victim’s contacts and accounts at intervals of five (5) minutes.
âMeanwhile, Meta, WhatsAppâs parent company has filed a lawsuit against three (3) developers in China and Taiwan, for distributing unofficial WhatsApp applications, including HeyMods, that compromised over one million user accounts,â the National Securityâs statement noted.
As a response to this situation, Minister for National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, urges the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, to promptly address this issue, considering the substantial user base of both WhatsApp and Telegram platforms among Ghanaians.
A group of ladies who recently patronized the KFC branch in Haatso took to social media to express their dissatisfaction, claiming mistreatment by the establishment.
In a viral video, the ladies allege that after visiting KFC for a meal following a night-out, they were forcibly ejected by a security guard who insulted them by calling them derogatory names.
According to the ladies, the unpleasant incident occurred after they visited the Botanical Gardens and decided to stop by KFC for some relaxation, unaware that it would turn into a distressing experience. They assert that a rude security guard, labeling them as prostitutes, rudely forced them out after they had finished their meal.
Expressing their discontent, the ladies criticized the Haatso branch of the popular chicken joint and cautioned Ghanaians to steer clear, citing subpar customer care as their reason to avoid the establishment.
The founder and leader of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC), Rev. Obofour, has emphasized that contemporary love is significantly shaped by an individual’s financial situation.
He cautioned people to exercise mindfulness when choosing life partners, emphasizing the importance of considering their financial well-being.
In illustrating his point, the pastor gave an example, stating that if he were in a relationship with President Akufo-Addo’s daughter, he would avoid controversies because of her affluent family background.
Rev. Obofour advised the public to evaluate the financial status of potential partners before committing to marriage, emphasizing how it can positively impact their lives.
âIn todayâs world, if someone proposes to you and the personâs family has money, the man will love you by force. Nowadays love is for rent. If I am dating Akufo-Addoâs daughter and she slaps me, I wouldnât do anything because of the wealth of her family. That kind of love is for rent and there is no way you can compete with such people.
“When you are marrying someone check the personâs background whether he has money or not. If you marry someone whose family doesn’t have enough money like yourself it wonât help you,â he said while preaching to his congregants.
He further advised, âIn Africa, If you don’t have money people donât believe you when you speak the truth. You are disgraced when you build a nice house. Always be mindful of the society you live in and act accordingly.â
