Minister of Communication and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has denied rumors that the government has sold its 30% stake in Vodafone Ghana.
“Mr. Speaker, the Government of Ghana has no plans to sell its thirty percent (30%) shareholding in the Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited,” Ursula responded categorically to the question. Vodafone Ghana transferred its seventy percent (70% stake in the company to the Telecel Group in February 2023.”
The Minister Clarifies Government’s Stance on Vodafone Ghana Shares Transfer
The minister’s clarification comes in response to a query from the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor, who inquired about the government’s intentions regarding the sale of its shares in Vodafone Ghana.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has granted the ultimate approval for the transfer of the 70 percent majority shares in Vodafone Ghana (Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited) from Vodafone Group Plc to Telecel Group.
In a release on February 21, 2023, the National Communications Authority (NCA) explained that the final approval follows “satisfaction of conditions outlined in the conditional approval of the shares transfer, including the agreement of the Government of Ghana, who remains the 30% minority shareholder.”
On January 16, 2023, the National Communications Authority (NCA) had announced its conditional approval for the transfer of the 70 percent majority shares in Vodafone Ghana from Vodafone Group Plc (the Seller) to Telecel Group (the Buyer).
The approval was granted following an evaluation of the revised proposal from the Telecel Group. The conditions included concessions from the Seller and representations made by the Buyer to the NCA.
The regulator emphasized its commitment to overseeing the takeover process in alignment with Vodafone Ghana’s existing license conditions, ensuring that consumer interests remain a top priority.

The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has provided clarification regarding its stance on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill (anti-LGBTQ+ bill) currently under consideration in parliament.
Following criticism from various quarters, including Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, the conference responded to its president, Most Rev Matthew Gyamfi’s reaffirmation of Cardinal Peter Turkson’s position in a BBC interview, stating that “homosexuality or homosexuals should not be criminalized.”
In an official statement signed by Most Rev Matthew Gyamfi, the bishops clarified the church’s position on LGBTQ+ activities and Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
The statement, grounded in biblical principles, reiterated the church’s condemnation of homosexual acts, asserting that homosexuality goes against God’s design and poses a threat to the survival of the human race.
“For the Church, to choose someone of the same sex for one’s sexual activity or for marriage is to annul the rich symbolism and meaning, not to mention the goals, of God’s sexual design.
“Homosexual activity is not a complementary union, able to transmit life, and so it thwarts the call to a life of that form of self-giving which the Gospel says is the essence of Christian living,” part of the statement read.
The bishops clarified that while the church strongly disapproves of homosexuality, it does not condemn individuals who engage in such acts—homosexuals.
They emphasized that people with homosexual orientation should be treated with love and understanding, rather than being treated as criminals.
“The Church thus makes a distinction between the homosexual as a person and the acts that he may carry out as a homosexual person. With regard to the former, the Church does not condemn people for being homosexuals or for having the homosexual tendency. Homosexuals must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity.
“The Church teaches that the intrinsic dignity of each person must always be respected in word, in action and in law. According to Pope Francis, the homosexual person needs to be ‘respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration, and ‘every sign of unjust discrimination’ is to be carefully avoided, particularly any form of aggression or violence’ (Amoris Laetitia 250). For this reason, it is not right to inflict physical or other types of violence on homosexuals just because they are homosexuals. Their being homosexuals does not mean that they should be treated like criminals,” it added.
On Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill, the Church took strong exception to the use of the word ‘crime’ in the bill.
The bishops indicated that homosexual acts cannot be classified as crime because they don’t “constitute an offence and are usually deemed socially harmful or dangerous and is punishable by law.”
They, however, indicated that the state can criminalize homosexual actions if they are seen as a danger to the size of Ghana’s population.
The church concluded by saying that the draft Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values 2021 is in the right direction since it “seeks to enact laws against criminal homosexual acts.”
Here is what the church said about Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill:
The State on Homosexuality
The Church recognizes that the State has a duty to carry out in this matter of homosexuality. With regard to homosexual acts, while the Church speaks of them as sins, the State does not use such language. For the State, whose duty it is to enact laws to govern the citizenry, the language used is that of crime. What then is a crime? “Crime” may be defined as an action or omission, which constitutes an offence and is usually deemed socially harmful or dangerous and is punishable by law. In the light of this definition, homosexual acts from the point of view of the State may be criminal in nature. For example, if a homosexual man rapes a teenage boy, that would be deemed a criminal offence, just as the same act carried out by a heterosexual man on a teenage girl would be deemed a criminal offence. In other words, these acts are not in the interest of the nation and, indeed, harm the nation. For this reason, there must be punitive measures to deal with such situations.
Again, the law makers may decide that a man marrying a man or a woman marrying a woman is not in the interest of the nation since, in the long term, it will have an effect on the size of the population of our country if many people do this. In such a case, the law makers will be within their rights to enact laws against that. In such cases, it will be right for the law makers to criminalize such homosexual actions by punitive measures. Thus, we can say that while it is not right to criminalize homosexuals just for being homosexuals, the State is within its right to criminalize the acts of homosexuals in the interest of the nation.
In this connection, we can state that the draft bill on “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values 2021” currently in Parliament is in the right direction, as it seeks to enact laws against criminal homosexual acts. The bill aims to provide for proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values, proscribe LGBTQ+ and related activities, and provide for the protection of children, persons who are victims or accused of LGBTTQQIAAP+ and related activities, and other persons. We commend our law makers for the effort and time spent on this bill. It is our hope that, when passed into law, it will indeed promote proper human sexual rights and authentic Ghanaian family values which are under threat from homosexual acts. It is also the hope of the Church that the bill will impose punitive measures that are commensurate with the crimes committed.
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you” (2 Corinthians 13:13 NRSV)
The Member of Parliament (MP) representing Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has accused the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) of defying a court order to release Shalimar Abbiusi, the spokesperson of The New Force, who was granted bail.
Addressing the media after the court proceedings on Monday, December 11, 2023, Sosu, also Abbiusi’s legal representative, characterized the continued detention of The New Force spokesperson as an abuse of power.
He contested the security officials’ assertion that the 30-year-old Belgian, Abbiusi, needed to be held in custody due to national security concerns.
“The court has taken note of the fact that immigration has already had her passport. So, she is not a flight risk. So, what would be the reasons why you would continue to want to detain the person?
“For me, that would be an abuse of power and it would undermine the respect for human rights. It would undermine the respect for the dignity of a person. And it would undermine the very constitution that we all subscribe to,” he said.
Sosu added, “Because when you arrest a person within 24 hours you should deal with the person. 48 hours is the maximum the person must be released. But you keep the person for seven days for a misdemeanour and the court admits the person to bail and you still want to keep the person”.
The lawmaker from Madina added that they would need to re-arrest his client if national security desired to keep her under custody.
“That (the National Security taking her away) would amount to contempt of court. In fact, that would be unlawful. It would be an upfront to the decision of the court today. Unless someone is saying she is being rearrested in which case you have to let us know the reason for the arrest.
“… when a person has not committed any offence and you bring the person to the court on specific facts and the court reviews the facts and admits the person to bail, we expected that you would respect the decision of the court. Otherwise, that would not be the rule of law, that would rule of the gaggle,” he explained.
He added that all sureties who would sign the bail conditions of his client to be released are ready.
About the arrest
Shalimar Abbiusi, a 30-year-old Belgian woman who rose to prominence as the subject of a short, viral video announcing “The New Force,” was detained by the Ghana Immigration Service.
Abbiusi was placed under arrest while her immigration status in the nation was being investigated.
The Immigration Service took notice of Abbiusi’s activities on social media, particularly her role as the spokesperson for “The New Force.”
Following an invitation by the Head of the National Enforcement Section at the Immigration Headquarters to address concerns about her immigration status, Shalimar Abbiusi was arrested.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Abbiusi initially entered Ghana on September 4, 2017, through the Kotoka International Airport and was a frequent visitor until 2018 when she claimed residency as a student at the Ghana Christian University College.
However, inquiries from the college exposed that Abbiusi had never been a student, and the documents purportedly issued by the institution to support her application for a residence permit were forged.
Facing charges related to immigration offenses, Abbiusi has been arraigned before the court for remand into Immigration custody. On December 11, 2023, the court granted her bail after she pleaded not guilty to the charges, including one count of obtaining a student permit by false declaration, as per section 52 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573).

Well-known Nollywood actor who goes by Nino or Maka, used to be a banker in the US before deciding to leave that field behind.
The actor gives a detailed explanation of his decision to leave the bank during an appearance on TVC’s Seven of Seven, emphasizing that he did so in order to discover his true self and purpose.
He left and returned home since banking was not what he was looking for at the moment.
He began, “Working in a bank in America was something that I had to do after school but switching was something I had to do in pursuit of my self-discovery and what I wanted to be in life. You know I couldn’t settle for that nine to five lifestyle, I wanted to find and create myself.”
When asked to give advise to people looking to make the same switch he did, the actor comically exclaimed “Ah” before saying, “you have to have some balls, ah you have to stay determined. With that, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. My entire family lives there. I have friends there and I grew up there. So it’s not like I went to America to work. I was raised in America, in Chicago to be precise. So sometimes I go back to connect.”
In a similar vein, Nigerian musician Mayorkun previously believed that he had a future in banking. In his instance, he retreated after being reduced to the role of errand boy at the bank where he was employed, even though he was qualified for the position.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has been accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor and sleeping with his wife’s sister by some pro-LGBTQ campaigners.
The accusations were made by Ghanaian musician Deborah Vanessa, also known as Sister Deborah, and transgender musician and activist Angel Maxine, on social media.
Sister Deborah revealed the allegations in the comments section of an Instagram video posted by @angelmaxinetv.
The video was about Angel Maxine’s threats to expose some Members of Parliament (MPs) who are involved in LGBTQ practices, if they allow the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
Sister Deborah expressed support for Angel Maxine and claimed that the Speaker was guilty of pedophilia and incest.
“The Bagbin nu, dem say ebe minor sef he sleep with o. That’s pedophilia and that’s the real crime here,” she wrote.

Angel Maxine also repeated the allegations in the video, calling the Speaker an “old fool” and saying that his children and family should be disappointed in him.
“Alan Bagbin you are such an old fool and your children and family should be disappointed in you. You, who did incest, you who slept with your wife’s sister, even you, you are walking freely. You are not imprisoned,” she said.
The anti-gay bill, officially known as the Promotion of Appropriate Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill 2021, seeks to criminalize various aspects of homosexuality, including its promotion, advocacy, funding, and the acts themselves. The bill imposes severe penalties, with LGBTQ advocates facing up to ten years in prison, and self-identifying individuals potentially facing three years of incarceration. The bill also seeks to withhold health services, including HIV medication, from the LGBTQ community.
The primary sponsor of the bill, Sam Nartey George, argues that homosexuality is not a human right but a lifestyle choice. He warned against U.S. interference, threatening potential impacts on Ghana’s business interests.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, strongly opposes LGBTQ practices and maintains that the bill aligns with constitutional provisions and international obligations.
However, human rights organizations, such as Rightify Ghana, contend that the bill undermines progress in HIV/AIDS efforts and constitutes a violation of basic LGBTQ rights. These concerns echo those raised by the UNAIDS program in 2021.
It’s essential to note that these claims are not verified and remain allegations from individuals who purport to have proof.

A prominent economist, Kwame Pianim, has expressed concern over the continuous depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, hindering the development of a stable savings and investment culture among Ghanaians.
He noted that the devaluation of the currency has disrupted the savings plans of many Ghanaians and resulted in the loss of value for numerous investments.
Pianim emphasized that the persistent fluctuations in the performance of the cedi contribute to the deterioration of investment conditions and foster speculation, leading to further depreciation.
“The Teacher’s Fund I helped establish for them would have been valued at around one or two billion dollars fund if not for the mismanagement of the cedi; even though I think it is about $900 million now. So, we need to stabilize the currency,” he said during his speech at the UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture on December 11, 2023.
In order to increase investor confidence, he continued, the nation must figure out how to stabilize the value of the currency given the rate of depreciation.

According to a statement made by VRMG’s Head of Brands, Public Relations, and Corporate, George Wiredu Duah, Edem narrowly avoided death when an unidentified woman happened to cross his path.
“On Sunday, 10th of December, the musician after his appearance on United Television had an accident on the George Walker Bush Highway, where a ‘naked’ woman crossed his path out of nowhere,” the statement read.
“Edem’s car turned upside down after the impact but the artiste is very fine. Edem is currently complying with the police service for due process as the case is still under investigation,” it added.
The statement went on to say that Edem had promised to be available to assist with inquiries at any time.
“Edem has assured his availability to assist investigations when need be,” it said.
Edem in court
Earlier today, Graphic.com.gh reported that Edem made an appearance before the Kaneshie District Court on Monday, December 11, 2023, facing charges related to an accident resulting in the death of an unidentified woman.
As per the report, Edem was operating an unregistered Honda Touring vehicle during the incident.
Edem faced charges on two counts: careless and inconsiderate driving, and negligently causing harm.
In the court proceedings overseen by Nana Abena Asor Owusu Amenyo, the rapper refrained from entering a plea.
Nevertheless, he was granted bail amounting to GH¢50,000, requiring two sureties.
His next court appearance has been scheduled for February 15, 2024.
In the most recent auction held on December 8, 2023, the government successfully borrowed GH¢4.12 billion from treasury bills.
Despite a marginal oversubscription of GH¢208.46 million, slightly exceeding the government’s target of GH¢3.919 billion set in the auction on December 4, 2023, the short-term instrument continues to attract significant interest.
Interest rates on treasury bills have been on the rise, with oversubscriptions persisting. The current interest rate for the 365-day bill stands at 33.45%.
The latest auction results from the Bank of Ghana indicate increases in interest rates for the 91-day and 182-day bills, reaching 29.58% and 31.96%, respectively.
Notably, all bids submitted in this week’s auction were not accepted, signaling a competitive market. The 91-day bill garnered a total subscription of GH¢2.53 billion, with GH¢1.11 billion accepted from the 182-day bill and GH¢481.75 million accepted from the 364-day bills.
Looking ahead, the government has set its target for the next auction at GH¢3.984 billion. The consistent oversubscriptions suggest sustained investor confidence in the treasury bills despite the upward trend in interest rates.
Ghanaian actor and content creator, Jeffery Nortey, has shared insights into his approach to handling criticism of his widely-viewed YouTube comedy skits, which frequently showcase voluptuous women.
Speaking in an interview with MX24 TV, Jeffery Nortey revealed that he engages in significant reflection before deciding to present his content.
“Before putting it out there, I criticised myself. It was tough for me. I could watch it several times. Like, do you want to put this out there?” he shared.
The performer, who is a devoted Christian as well, continued to defend his skits, saying he saw nothing wrong with them. He went on to say that God is humorous and that his skits were a means for him to express his creative side.
“See, God is a creative. Don’t limit God. God has a great sense of humor. I don’t know how they see him, but I feel like sometimes you can talk to him and you laugh.
“There’s nothing bad about it. Have you seen how God created the moon and all that? Have you seen how God created the African woman? Have you seen a woman? God is creative,” Nortey said.
In response to concerns regarding potential nudity, Jeffery Nortey emphasized that his comedy skits do not feature any explicit content.
He clarified his intention to use his platform for educational purposes and to celebrate the beauty of women while ensuring he does not cross any boundaries.
“Yeah. And I don’t show nudity. You see the beautiful woman in the dress, and you see what this is there. I’m educating you. But it’s subtle, but one day they’ll see it,” he said.
Nortey is preparing for ‘3FacesOfJeffreyNortey,’ a live show set to spotlight the three facets of his creativity, captivating the audience with his charisma and unique skills at Snap Cinemas in Accra. The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2023.

The 6th Volta Trade and Investment Fair is currently taking place in Ho, stepping up national initiatives to reveal the hidden treasures and enormous investment potential of the area.
Under the theme, “leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area for Economic Development,” the 2-week event primarily sought to attract capital for the local economy enriched with vast fertile lands, extensive water bodies, captivating tourist sites, and richly diverse ethnic heritage.
It served as a platform for companies and enterprises with a stake in the region to exhibit their wide range of products and services. Dr. Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, expressed a commitment to facilitating the exposure of businesses in the region to other African countries through the Free Trade Agreement.
Togbe Patamia Dzekley, the Paramount Chief and President of Battor Traditional Area, advocated for the establishment of an appealing environment conducive to the prosperity of youth under the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
“I look forward to a time when we can look back on this forum not just at the dawning of a splendid new era in the history of sustainable development for our region but also as one of the landmarks of economic progress in the region. It is inspiring to know that we have chosen to focus on manufacturing agribusiness and tourism and especially projecting our kente weaving industry this year. This is timely because sustainable industrialization must be the next step for our region.”
Dr. Humphrey K. Ayim-Darke, President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), stated that the AGI supports the Volta Region’s efforts to boost its economy.
“We consider our MSMEs the seat belts of industry and we are determined to offer them the right support and policies to spur them on to growth into giants that will thrive within the AfCFTA community in Africa and the Association of Ghana Industries with the 60 years of participating in the business space in advocacy has the right tool to support these in the Volta region to grow.”
Dr. Fareed Kwesi Arthur, the National AfCFTA Coordinator, applauded the initiative to include the Volta Region on the African map.
H.E. Eliphas Barine, the High Commissioner of Kenya to Ghana, reiterated the necessity for Africans to work together in order to succeed under the AfCFTA.
The recently married husband of Mama Pat, has responded to the public uproar surrounding his union with the controversial woman of God.
He attributes his marriage to Nana Agradaa to the grace of God, emphasizing that human judgments cannot determine the correctness of his choice.
Furthermore, Pastor Asiamah acknowledges that facing criticism is part of his journey.
He draws parallels from biblical references, pointing out that even when the blind man was healed, people made various claims and speculations about the miraculous recovery after being blind for an extended period.
Pastor Asiamah expressed contentment with his marriage to Nana Agradaa, asserting that external opinions regarding their union would not have any impact on their happiness.
Additionally, “Those criticizing us would do so for long because I am not concerned. Even in the bible when the blind man was healed, people questioned how he was cured but he didn’t mind them. What I know is that I used to be a bachelor but now I am a married man.”
Media personality Kofi Adoma Nwanwani has strongly criticized the residents of the Bono region for their apparent lack of support towards the paramount chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, in his ongoing dispute with Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
In contrast to the united front displayed by the Asantes in rallying behind Otumfuo, Kofi Adoma Nwanwani pointed out the divisive atmosphere in Dormaahene’s Bono region.
He emphasized the need for the people in the Bono region and surrounding areas to learn from the unity exhibited by the Asantes, especially when their leader is involved in a public disagreement with another chief.
Expressing his views on his Kofi TV platform, as monitored by GhanaWeb, Kofi Adoma Nwanwani commended the Asantes for their solidarity with Otumfuo and criticized the Bono people for their lack of unity in supporting Dormaahene during such contentious circumstances.
“I’m disappointed in the fact that people in the Bono region are not united. I salute the Asantes because when it comes to oneness, they are very good at it. I used to tell my Ga friends that although Accra is the capital when a president from another country comes to Ghana, he goes to Manhyia Palace to greet Asantehene because of how they have projected themselves. That is what other regions and tribes should emulate to make them better,” he said.
Kofi Adoma continued: “It is time for the people in the Bono region to be united. So if Dormaahene has stood up for something, they should all rally behind him. If it is Techimanhene, his people should do the same for him so that together, Bono will become great.
“How the Asantes are united, I don’t see that among the Bono people. I can tell you that Dormaahene has done very well for being brave in that manner. The way Asantes are rallying behind Otumfuo, is it the same way the Bono people are doing for Dormaahene? No.”
Recent criticisms from Dormaahene towards the Ashanti Kingdom have ignited a chieftaincy controversy, leading to a debate over whose status holds superiority. Dormaahene found himself barred by the Sunayni High Court from attending the funeral of Berekumhene, while his rival, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was present.
The decision by the Berekum Traditional Council to prevent Dormaahene’s attendance at the funeral, citing his refusal to adhere to a specified reporting time, has raised concerns about unity within the Bono region’s community.
This incident highlights the potential discord among the people in the region and calls into question the harmony of their traditional leadership.
At the 20th Anniversary of Breaking Yoke Ministry, a Christian gathering, tensions escalated as Broda Sammy brought his ongoing feud with Nacee to the sacred space.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, a notable incident occurred during Nacee’s performance, where everyone in attendance stood up to sing and dance, except for Broda Sammy.
As Nacee enthralled the audience with his hit song “Aseda,” Broda Sammy remained seated, displaying a clear disinterest in joining the joyous celebration.
This unexpected confrontation unfolded at a church program over the weekend, where Broda Sammy steadfastly refused to engage with any of Nacee’s songs, maintaining a stance of indifference.
The feud between the two artists had previously surfaced when Broda Sammy accused Nacee of envy, alleging that Nacee attempted to have his social media account blocked by reporting him for copyright infringement.
According to Broda Sammy, the conflict originated when Nacee released the song “Aseda” and initiated a social media challenge for others to create their versions.
Broda Sammy claimed that his rendition surpassed Nacee’s original, garnering more views and interactions when Nacee shared it on his TikTok account.
This apparent success led to envy, resulting in Nacee deleting the video and, in a further escalation, reporting Broda Sammy’s video on his own page for copyright infringement. The fallout from this dispute spilled over into the church event, marking a public manifestation of their ongoing feud.
Renowned fashion critic Charlie Dior has called on Nana Ama McBrown’s team to infuse new life into her wardrobe, asserting that her outfit choices have become monotonous and predictable.
Nana Ama McBrown is frequently seen in long, tight-fitted garments that accentuate her curves. The style often features a ‘one-armed’ or sleeveless design, occasionally incorporating a ‘cut-out’ at the upper part. She consistently complements this look with her signature pose – a stern expression with her arms positioned behind her.
However, Charlie Dior, who has evidently been closely following her social media posts, expresses dissatisfaction with her ‘signature outfit and poses.’
In the latest installment of his popular fashion review show, the US-based critic suggests that the actress should break away from the ‘one-way’ looks.
While acknowledging that her makeup and overall presentation are always impeccable, Dior advises McBrown’s team to step out of their comfort zone and explore more contemporary and sophisticated designs for her.
“Y’all, know I love Nana Ama McBrown but I feel like her styles are becoming predictable. The fabric is beautiful but we have seen this silhouette over and over again. I want to challenge her designer and the entire team to give us something new for 2024. I want to see something different. However, the glam is beautiful and the makeup never declines,” he established.
Charlie Dior believes that McBrown has discovered a style that suits her and has chosen to settle into it.
“I am kinda getting tired of it but then again, maybe she found something that works for her and she got comfortable with it,” he added.
Among the celebrities that appear in Charlie Dior’s most recent fashion review episode are Black Sherif, Celestine Donkor, Benedicta Gafa, and Nana Akua Addo.
Ghana is on the brink of establishing its own lithium processing plant, a development that promises to streamline the mining of this essential mineral within the country.
The positive outcome is a result of discussions between ReElement, a subsidiary of the American Resources Corporation, and TECHGULF Ghana, which recently concluded talks with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
After the productive meeting, Dr. Bawumia conveyed optimism about the significant positive impact the upcoming plant is expected to have on Ghana’s future.

Reality star Khloe from Big Brother Naija has proclaimed a stance against providing financial assistance to men, expressing a strong preference for being the recipient rather than the giver.
The influential personality emphasized in a recent interview that her sole contribution to a relationship is serving as the romantic partner, firmly stating her unwillingness to give money to a man.
She claims that caring for the kids, praying for him, and keeping tabs on his business are additional values she brings to a relationship.
Khloe said: “Me being a mother figure to your kids is something I bring to the table. Me being your girlfriend is something I bring to the table….I cannot give you money honey, you are the one what will give me money.”
Controversial BBNaija reality star, Khloe, has voiced her disdain for natural hair and minimal makeup, asserting that such styles are suitable only within the confines of one’s home and local community.
When questioned about her stance on natural hair and wigs, Khloe maintained that these choices are acceptable solely for domestic settings and nearby environments.
In her critique of women who opt for a more understated approach to makeup, the former BBNaija housemate went on to recommend wigs as a superior option, especially for events where she is in attendance.
In her words, “Your natural hair is good for church programs, pick your kids at school, but don’t bring it to my event.
Why would I want to wear an expensive outfit, at least, I’d do a ponytail.
They do something that pisses me off, they will now do small makeup saying they are minimalists.”
Outspoken Ghanaian Reggae dancehall star, Charlie Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known as Shatta Wale, has affirmed millionaire status on social media
Shatta Wale recently declared his millionaire status on social media, making the assertion amidst a series of sarcastic posts playfully mocking unidentified individuals.
The question of Shatta Wale’s net worth has intrigued many, prompting speculation about the extent of his financial success.
Shedding light on his music business, he revealed that he charges approximately $120,000 per show.
With these figures in mind, Shatta Wale’s claim to millionaire status seems substantiated after careful calculations.
In the midst of her three-week social media spotlight, Mary, the former house help to Kuami Eugene, addresses accusations of ingratitude and offers insights into a specific incident related to her birthday celebration.
Earlier, Mary faced criticism for disclosing her monthly salary of 400-600 cedis while working for the musician.
Critics argued her apparent lack of gratitude despite instances of good treatment, including a birthday celebration organized by Kuami Eugene.
However, Mary has now provided context to the controversy in a recent interview.
She clarified that the birthday decorations in question were not meant for her. On the eve of her birthday, Kuami Eugene took her to Capitol for dinner, where they encountered another person’s birthday setup.
The musician suggested she pose in front of it for a photo to be shared on her actual birthday.
Mary emphasized that she simply followed her boss’s instructions and posed for the pictures, later shared by Kuami Eugene to wish her a happy birthday.
Unfortunately, certain blogs misconstrued the situation, erroneously reporting that the musician had thrown a party for his house help.
Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Esseim Mensah-Abrampa, claims that during the past 20 years, poverty in Ghana has been cut in half.
In an interview with TV3, based in Accra, he emphasized once more that Ghana, with its lower middle-class economy, was not impoverished.
He told Kemmini Amanor, host of Hot Issues programme: “Ghana is not poor, we are a lower-middle-income country. We are not poor because if you have the means of measuring in terms of development with all the global indicators, we have what we call the least developed countries, you have developing countries then you have lower-middle-income, upper-middle-income, and then developed.
“So it tells you that if you are going by these five graduations, we are right in the middle.”
He explained why the lower middle-income status did not reflect in the lives of most Ghanaians, stating thus: “It does reflect in the lives of the people because per capita income, how much you earn, and the sophistication in our lives and our well-being are far higher than the average in the world.”
He added “Definitely, we cannot live on the same income bracket which means that definitely there are some people who are poor but there is a process which has gone on for a very long time within twenty years.
“We have been able to half that, it means we have been able to move half of the people who are poor right into a higher range of wellbeing and satisfaction. So it is a process,” he stressed.
According to the World Bank, economies classified as lower-middle-income have a per capita Gross National Income (GNI) of $1,036 to $4,045, while those classified as upper-middle-income have a per capita GNI of $4,046 to $12,535 (2021).
Sixty-two percent of the world’s poor live in middle-income countries, which make up 75% of the global population.
Over the past 20 years, Ghana’s poverty rate has dropped by half, according to the NDPC Boss.
Investigative journalist Kemi Olunloyo has made serious allegations against actress Tonto Dikeh, claiming that she has damaged her womb through an abortion.
According to Kemi’s posts on her X page, Tonto Dikeh allegedly became pregnant by Nigerian socialite Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, who is currently serving time in a US prison.
Kemi further alleges that Tonto Dikeh attempted to pin the pregnancy on Hafiz, a London-based individual involved in alleged fraudulent activities.
According to Olunloyo, Hafiz denied the pregnancy, leading Tonto Dikeh to undergo a challenging abortion procedure that resulted in damage to her womb.
Kemi Oluloyo wrote on X;
Some of the best gossip came in 2017 when Tonto befriended me trying to manipulate stories about her in the media. I quickly distanced myself from her and her bribes. She had just set ended a violent relationship with Dr Olakunle Churchill claiming to be the victim.”
“I told her she should have used the gun if he tried to kill her first. Ghana police told me she was the aggressor destroying Dr Churchill’s clothes, shoes, water damage etc. I had just got out of the first prison arrest and she had a small baby. Let me tell you about Tonto and Hafiz/Hushpuppi. The H factor was a mess. She got pregnant with twins and had to have a complicated abortion.”
“Both men denied being the father. Tonto spent time with Hafiz at the Intercontinental Hotel alternating with Hushpuppi at the George Hotel Ikoyi. She used a lot of cocaine and her baby would be shaking from the transmission to the child as a nursing mother.”
“The child was left with a nanny in Abuja while she was balling in Lagos. When she got pregnant, she cried her eyes out to reality star Tutu Pie because she did not know who the father was. Hafiz went back to London while Hush went back to Malaysia. Is this the role model your daughters are following? People made fun of her in the Instagram comments. KONTINUE”.
Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has decided not to participate in the launch of multiple community mining projects in the Ellembelle District, Western Region.
This choice comes in response to raised concerns by environmental civil society groups, including Arocha Ghana, who petitioned Shatta Wale against his involvement due to reported environmental damages caused by surface mining in the district.
The environmental organisations highlighted significant pollution of rivers and streams, particularly impacting water bodies such as Ankobra, Broma, Subile Norloa, and Amanzule.
In their communication, they cautioned Shatta Wale that his participation could implicate him in the ongoing environmental destruction in Ellembelle, urging him to reconsider to protect his image as a youth icon.
Acknowledging these concerns, Shatta Wale has opted out of the event, aligning with his commitment to environmental consciousness and responsibility.
In response, Arocha Ghana praised Shatta Wale, naming him the “Green Revolution Hero of the Year” for taking a bold stand in favor of environmental conservation.
The organization expressed gratitude for Shatta Wale’s responsiveness and decision to exclude the Ellembelle Community Mining launch from his schedule.
Ghanaian actor Harold Amenyah has addressed the comments he made earlier in the year about being open to a threesome with his wife and another woman.
In July, the actor, who married in April 2023, caused a stir when he expressed his openness to the idea, suggesting that he and his wife would audition the third person.
Amenyah clarified that he had intended to try a threesome on his 30th birthday but met his wife instead. Despite his wife’s traditional background, he insisted he remained open to the concept.
Responding to the controversy on the December 9 edition of the United Showbiz show on UTV, Harold insisted his remarks were taken out of context, describing them as a joke.
He revealed receiving inquiries, even from women, expressing interest in a threesome with him and his wife, highlighting what he perceived as Ghanaians’ hypocrisy and expressing shock at the public reaction.
“It was taken out of context; it wasn’t something that I was pushing for to happen. I was asked the question, “What haven’t I done before?” and I mentioned, “I haven’t done that before.” If you watched the full interview, it started somewhere.
“You know that we live in a very hypocritical society. People were reaching out in my DMs and in town to engage in a threesome with me and my wife. People were asking me what the requirements were and all that.
Can you imagine? Something that I wasn’t serious about? I didn’t expect Ghanaians to take it seriously. I was even shocked,” he expressed
He disclosed that his wife was informed about the situation and had even watched the show in real-time. He added that she, too, was taken aback when the comments gained widespread attention because she understood the complete context of what he had said.
“Which person would get married and, in a couple of months, want to engage in a threesome? My wife watched the show. We didn’t expect that it would be taken out of proportion so we were both surprised when it started trending days later,” he said.

Ghanaian disc jockey, DJ Slim, has shared anecdotes about Archipalago’s remarkable bravery in singlehandedly confronting and repelling armed robbers on multiple occasions.
The revelation came during an interview on the Loud Lounge with Kojo Cue, where the two were originally discussing the career and versatility of Ghanaian hip-hop artists.
The conversation veered into Archipalago’s experiences, with DJ Slim and Kojo Cue recounting instances where he valiantly intervened to save individuals from potential attacks and robberies.
“Niggers were on social media trolling Archipalago a couple of times and I am like do you know Achilapago?” DJ Slim quizzed.
Additionally recalling his initial meeting with Archipalago in the past, Kojo Cue stated “Dennis Buck, Ayeduase, F&F Hostel, that is where I first met Archipelago. He was in that hostel.”
“There was a party one night, and some boys, about 4 or 5 boys took advantage of the party or to collect people’s phones. Dennis Buck(Archipalago) by himself fought them off”.
Dj Slim also added, “I will tell you something about Palago. One time at Vienna City, He was with Shatta, in his camp at the time while Waddle was on the fip side. AMG guys came to Kumasi, and there was a party at Vienna City. As so as I stepped outside I saw some boys standing and the it got chaotic. They were excitd to see Palago. They were plenty. I would’ve run if it was me, but Palago fought and blew them off,” he recounted.
Information coming in has it that a destructive fire has wreaked havoc on portions of the Kumasi Central Market.
Per reports, the fire which began at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, has consumed more than 300 stores along French Line, close to the Aboabo station in the 31st December sector of the Central Market.
The root cause of the outbreak remains unknown, and despite the presence of Ghana National Fire Service personnel, local residents are banding together to control the raging flames.

Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artiste Abdul Razak, popularly known as Iwan, has expressed frustration over the insufficient media support for his music.
According to him, this lack of support is attributed to his choice of lyrics.
Despite making efforts to promote his music, Iwan has encountered challenges as the media appears to have largely ignored his work.
The artiste voiced his concerns about the industry’s sidelining, pointing to the discrepancy between his musical content, which steers clear of themes related to immorality, and the prevalent preferences within the media.
“The issue is always straightforward. The media is not promoting me. I am doing all I can, but I am not getting support. The media have sidelined me, making it appear as if some of us are not trying,” he expressed.
The “Who Is Bad” hitmaker claims that his talent is underappreciated and that people want him to sing about immoral subjects, which he will never do. He declared that he wants to sing about uplifting issues that society needs to hear about.
“Some people don’t understand how a talented artist like Iwan is not gaining traction. Perhaps, they want us to conform to the trend of singing about immoral subjects, but I will always decline that and speak about positive issues that urgently need attention in our society”, he added.
He also exhorted other musicians to use their art to speak out against societal issues that are important to them, like homosexuality.
He added that he will always speak the truth because that is the goal of his music and that many artists are scared to talk about such subjects for fear of losing their fans.
“I will always speak about it because that is what our songs are supposed to do. Let us be bold and address these issues, as our songs are meant to help correct societal ills,” he said.
Entertainment critic and media personality, MC Yaa Yeboah, has joined the conversation surrounding the use of the English language in songs by Ghanaian gospel artists.
During the December 9 episode of the United Showbiz show on UTV, MC Yaa Yeboah endorsed Nigerian gospel musician Nathaniel Bassey’s suggestion for Ghanaian gospel acts to create songs in English for broader international appeal.
She emphasized that using a universal language like English would make it easier for a wider audience to appreciate the songs more fully.
“We know a lot of worldwide hits; we dance to these songs; we follow them; but we don’t know what it means. If you come to Ghana, we have songs by artistes like Wiyaala, Sherifa Gunu, etc. I don’t understand the lyrics to these songs, but I can vibe to them. If I get to understand the lyrics, I will be able to appreciate them more,” she said.
Furthermore, MC Yaa Yeboah said that taking Nathaniel Bassey’s advice would be advantageous for Ghanaian gospel artists and that it made sound business sense.
“So I don’t see anything wrong with what Nathaniel said; business-wise, it is good if you sing in a language that is widely accepted. I appreciate that advice; it doesn’t mean he is saying something because he feels guilty,” he said.
In 2021, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) sent a formal letter to the Ministry of Finance requesting authorization to buy multiple cars.
Thus, the September 2021 request was sent out just over a month after Kissi Agyebeng took the oath of office as the office’s second occupant.
The letter is headed “APPLICATION FOR COMMENCEMENT WARRANT” and is addressed to the Minister of Finance.
It read in part: “The Office of the Special Prosecutor wishes to apply for Commencement Warrant for the purchase of the under-listed vehicles for the office.”
The formal request outlined four types of armored-plated vehicles and twelve types of soft/light-body vehicles, with the total cost of the requested vehicles amounting to GH29,952,000.
Within the requested vehicles, there were a total of six armored cars and 38 light-body cars. Notably, the BMW 750 LI emerged as the most expensive in the consignment, valued at over 1.6 million cedis, while the Toyota Camry held the position of the least-priced, priced at 330,000 cedis.
It remains undisclosed whether the entire purchase request was approved or who compiled the list, with uncertainty surrounding whether it was formulated by the inaugural Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, or his predecessor.
In addressing the challenges encountered in fulfilling his mandate, the current Special Prosecutor (SP) highlighted the adverse impact of unfavorable court decisions.
The government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has faced widespread criticism for alleged corrupt practices involving top appointees and individuals closely associated with the presidency.
Ghana’s poor performance in annual anti-corruption rankings by Transparency International has further fueled concerns. Local anti-graft agencies have lamented the perceived failure of President Akufo-Addo to take decisive action against allegedly corrupt appointees.

Ghana has committed to lowering methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas, as part of her renewed global methane pledge.
“This commitment is not mere rhetoric; it is exemplified by the bold and visionary steps taken by our President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” Dr Freda Prempeh, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, stated.
Dr. Prempeh, also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North in the Ahafo Region, reiterated the nation’s commitment during the approval of internally transferred mitigation outcomes for integrated waste recycling and composite facilities at the 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai.
The authorization process includes regulatory compliance checks, documentation review, approval from relevant authorities, and ensuring compliance with waste management regulations.
A statement from the Ministry, sent to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), emphasized that the nation acknowledges the crucial role of diverting organic waste from landfills in its dedicated pursuit of sustainable waste management practices.
“It is with great pride that I highlight the incorporation of this priority area into Ghana’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), reflecting our commitment to mitigating climate change”, it said.
“Under the dynamic leadership of President Akufo-Addo, Ghana has embarked on a transformative journey through Public-Private Partnerships.”
“This partnership has resulted in the initiation of a large-scale installation of 16 integrated waste recycling and compost plants strategically located across all regions of our nation”.
When completed, these facilities would prevent roughly 35% of all waste volumes produced from ending up in landfills. They would also play a crucial role in the country’s waste management strategy, which is aimed at quickly reducing methane emissions from waste, according to the statement.
“Beyond their environmental impact, these projects yield significant co-benefits for our nation, job creation, spurred by the expansion of these facilities, is a tangible result, fostering economic growth and sustainability”.
“The strategic alignment of our waste management initiatives with climate investments is beginning to attract the needed foreign direct investments, which would render these projects commercially viable”.
The funding infusion from investors who care about the environment not only helps these projects succeed, but it also highlights Ghana’s significance as a desirable location for sustainable development.
According to the statement, Ghana’s cooperative efforts went beyond national boundaries, especially with the Government of Switzerland. The country had established the groundwork for climate investments that bolstered the viability and appropriateness of waste-related initiatives in the nation.
“It is, therefore, great joy for the Ministry to officially announce that we are here today to witness the signing of the Letter of Authorisation for four integrated waste recycling and compost facilities installed by the Jospong Group”.
In the statement, the Jospong Group was urged to perform to the highest standards and President Akufo-Addo was commended for his vision of establishing a conducive atmosphere for the private sector to flourish.
Typically, invigilators at health training institutions in Ghana conduct body searches on students to ensure they do not bring unauthorized materials into examination venues.
However, some candidates manage to pass the body search and subsequently succeed in exams by concealing forbidden materials in their private parts, such as menstrual pads, which they then sneak into examination halls.
This deceptive tactic is one of several forms of examination malpractice identified by Dr. Vida Nyagre Yakong, the Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University for Development Studies (UDS).
She points out that these emerging threats pose challenges to maintaining the quality of healthcare delivery in Ghana.
“There is a particular paradigm shift that is emerging among trainees all over. This shift is from quality to quantity and from pursuit of knowledge to pursuit of lack of appreciation and respect for knowledge but must earn a certificate. Many training institutions witness an upsurge in unprofessional and unacademic conduct during examinations.
“Students’ engagement in examination malpractice has become so common and, to some extent, normalised among students. They enter examination halls with phones containing content for examination and wrapped in papers and used as menstrual pads,” she said.
On Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Zuarungu, Upper East Region, Nursing and Midwifery Training College’s graduation and matriculation ceremony, she was giving a keynote speech to stakeholders.
The ceremony was themed: “Quality Nursing and Midwifery Education: The Role of Stakeholders.”
The dean continued: “Some download artificial intelligence apps in their phones that find answers online for their questions. Some write content under their dresses and on their thighs to copy. Such students risk cancellations of their papers, rustication or even dismissals. I find this to be an embarrassment to the profession that values truth, hard-work and academic excellence.”
Nursing and Midwifery politicised
Besides her concern about examination malpractice at nursing and midwifery training institutions in the country, Dr. Yakong also expressed worry about stakeholders’ interference in the affairs of the institutions.
“Instead of these unprofessional and unethical behaviours to be condemned, we rather have some politicians, some members of management of the institutions and community leaders, including chiefs, stand in the way of ensuring quality education by asking that such students remain unpunished.
“Heads of institutions receive countless calls from some people who should have known better, asking for favours to free such students, and labelling them as wicked when they stand their grounds to ensure the right thing is done. The students who should have been ashamed of their misconducts also issue death threats to examiners and invigilators who caught them copying,” she noted.
The dean told the gathering the collective dream of producing nurses and midwives of high value, if some stakeholders continued to “serve as barriers to quality education instead of facilitators”, would not be achieved.
“It is a source of worry when quality education in Nursing and Midwifery is politicised,” she stressed. “As stakeholders we need to rethink the implications of our role in this journey.”
Training institutions need freedom to select qualified students
In addition to academic dishonesty and interference by stakeholders, Dr. Yakong also cited admissions offered through “protocols and political pressure” as another major factor contributing to the falling standards of education at health training institutions.
“Mr Chair, another challenge that is a threat to quality education is the calibre of students selected for admission into the programmes. Most students are admitted based on protocols and political pressure. These students come in with some perceived entitlement because of their affiliations to politicians.
“They have the attitude that says ‘I must pass examinations even if I do not study’. This results in poor academic performance and the issue of examination malpractice sets in. We need to revisit this aspect of our admissions processes and give training institutions the freedom to select and admit qualified students in order to maintain the standards needed to ensure quality education of nursing and midwifery in Ghana,” she stated.
According to her, the nurses and the midwives trained in Ghana had been “the most highly sought for outside this country” because the education they received was better than the tuition offered their counterparts in other countries.
While touching on the incomparable demand for Ghanaian-trained nursing and midwifery professionals overseas, the dean also highlighted the need for the country’s training standards to be improved and sustained.
Things nurses, midwives must avoid when on duty
Addressing the gathering, the principal of the school, Michael Yidana Mantamia, reminded nurses and midwives of things they should avoid while on duty.
“Please, don’t have earpiece in your ear when you need to provide service to clients. It is unprofessional. Don’t make calls when you need to be attending to clients. It is negligence. Don’t shout at clients when attending to clients. It is unlike nurse.
“Don’t appear shabby when attending to clients. It doesn’t give an environment conducive for healing. Don’t go on social media when you have to be attending to clients. In nursing, time is not only money, but time is life. Be punctual and regular at your work,” said the principal.
Recently, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) revealed than more than 4,000 nurses left Ghana for Europe between January and July 2023. The association blamed the exodus on poor conditions of service in the country.
“I plead and admonish that let us build our own country even as we build other people’s countries. Be compassionate, caring and professional. Always remember that you are there to care for your patients and that their needs should always come first,” remarked the principal.
513 students matriculated and 202 graduated at the event, where the principal also hailed Dr. Yakong, describing the UDS dean as a major influence in his life.
“Our keynote address speaker, Dr Vida has made me who I am today. A very resourceful person, very humble, intelligent. I studied under her. She took me through my thesis. And if you see me here, it’s through some people like Dr Vida Yakong,” he said.
The Upper East Regional Director of Health Services and chairman for the event, Dr Samuel K. Boakye-Boateng, spoke similar words at the ceremony.
“The keynote address was very comprehensive. In fact, I consider myself to be a bold person; but I think this woman is bolder than me,” Dr Boakye-Boateng stated. “She said so many things. She spoke to everybody.”
The keynote address turned the spotlight on several entities. They include: educational institutions, faculty and mentors, students, healthcare institutions and clinical preceptors, government and regulatory bodies, healthcare professionals and alumni as well as community and patients.
King Promise launched a three-minute remix featuring Sean Paul for his globally embraced hit ‘Terminator’ on Friday.
The song has captivated people of various backgrounds, sparking a dance frenzy worldwide.
Notably, King Promise is the first Ghanaian to feature Sean Paul on an Afrobeats track, adding a unique touch to the collaboration.
“It was a great feeling when the verse from the legend Sean Paul came in,” a source close to star singer-songwriter King Promise said, intimating the collaboration was facilitated by the internet.
The man talked in an exclusive interview with Prince Benjamin (PB) of Class News.
Sean Paul “definitely killed it as well,” he exclaimed in addition.
In a fantastic intro, an excited Sean Paul, in Patois, dedicated the song “to the streets” and did an iconic shout out to the “…man called King Promise and Sean the Peezy on the talkaphone… Tiwa Savage ago make them know…”
With Sean Paul and Tiwa Savage, the Amapiano-inspired Terminator Remix was released exclusively to 5K Records Limited and Sony Music Entertainment UK.
King Promise unveils second terminator remix with Sean Paul
This marks the second remix for ‘Terminator,’ the initial one featuring Nigerian star producer and singer Young Jonn. Accompanied by a music video, the first remix showcased star dancer and choreographer Dancegod Lloyd, the creator of the viral Terminator dance challenge.
The original solo performance of ‘Terminator’ took center stage at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), where King Promise notched two significant victories: Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year for ’10 Toes’ and Album of the Year for his sophomore release, ‘5 Star.’ These triumphs marked his return to the VGMA stage after four years, following the 2019 Songwriter of the Year award for ‘CCTV.’
The global success of ‘Terminator’ post-VGMAs felt like a celebration for King Promise’s fans, who believed the artist, also known as Gregory Bortey Newman, was previously underappreciated. A visualizer for the song featured footage from the VGMAs ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) Grand Arena.
Since his 2017 solo hit ‘Oh Yeah,’ King Promise has firmly established himself in the global Afrobeats scene, standing resolute in his trendy heavy boots.
In an uncommon glimpse into the past, a photo captures Ghana’s inaugural president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, casually strolling alongside a German Shepherd dog.
While the precise date of the image remains uncertain, it is plausible that it was taken at President Nkrumah’s residence, depicting him affectionately patting the dog on its back.
Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, a recent contestant in the party’s presidential primaries, emphasizes the crucial need for all party members, especially those involved in recent primaries, to unite behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for success in the upcoming elections.
Speaking in Kumasi during Dr. Bawumia’s visit to express gratitude to Ashanti Region party members, Agyapong characterizes the internal contest as a democratic process and urges all party supporters to stand behind Dr. Mahamudu.
“Our tradition is a very big tradition and we believe in democracy and intra-party contests,” said the former General Secretary
“The election was a process to choose the flagbearer of our party. And fortunately, God has blessed us with a flagbearer so let us all come together and push him to win for the party.”
“We are done with the elections and Dr. Bawumia is now the property and project of the party and all of us must come together and rally behind him for victory in 2024,” he urged.
Historic win
The NPP’s history is clearly well-versed in Kwabena Agyapong, who declared that Dr. Bawumia’s victory was historic due to the fact that no one has ever won by such a wide margin in the party’s history during Bawumia’s initial run for leadership since 1992.
“Nobody in our tradition; from Professor Adu Boahene in 1992, to J.A. Kufuor to Nana Akufo-Addo, has won by 61% in their first attempt to lead the party. His victory is significant because it is big and the voice of the people is where the Lord’s blessing is,” said Kwabena Agyapong
The former General Secretary also called for a “spirit of sacrifice” among all executives, right from the grassroots.
“The party can only be stronger when you are stronger. And our flagbearer Dr. Bawumia can only be stronger if we all work hard and rally behind him.”
“You are the front-line soldiers of our party, you are the main people to ensure victory. Your main job is that you are executives first, right from the polling station level so I want you all to come together.”
General Secretary Justin Kodua and NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim accompanied Dr. Bawumia.
Three candidates for the NPP flagbearership, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Addai Nimo, and Kojo Poku, were also present.
Head of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has asserted that a significant majority of Ghanaians are advocating for a shift.
He arrived at this realization after extensively surveying the nation, leading to the establishment of the Movement for Change. Kyerematen made these remarks during an interview on Pan African Television in Accra.
“The Movement for Change was launched on four pillars. There is no doubt that the majority of Ghanaians are clamoring for change. I’m not sure that there needs to be a public debate on that, they are looking for change and if you talk to the ordinary Ghanaians there are four reasons why they are looking for change. First, they want to go beyond the NDC and the NPP. The two dominant parties have controlled power in our country for the past 32 years. Now people are asking the question that if over 32 years we still have not been able to fix our roads, we have very significant problems with our energy sector, there are many household that have not seen or have water running through their pipes for the last five decades.”
“All over the country when it rains the nature of the floods are unbelievable. They are wondering why every part of the country you go to people are complaining about their roads. People are asking questions why we have had to go to the IMF 17 times. So obviously there is something that needs to change and majoity of Ghanaians feel that it is time for us if not for anything at all to see what else some other people can do. That’s number one, going beyond the duopoly,” he said.
He indicated that in Ghana currently between the “NPP and NDC everything is politicized, every single issue is politicized. Whether it is good or bad one has to oppose it. This divisiveness in our politics cannot be sustained and so that needs to be changed. There is also this issue of winner takes all. You get into office and NDC and everything has to go to NDC supporters. NPP comes into power the reverse occured. If you’re in opposition you are just waiting to come to power so your people also enjoy”.
The Institute of Statistics, Social, and Economic Research (ISSER) has warned that the recent restrictions on mobile money (MoMo) transactions pose a potential threat to the digitization efforts of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and the advancement of a cash-lite economy.
In a press release sent to the Ghana News Agency, ISSER recognized that the proposed rate would have a limited effect on small-value transactions. Nevertheless, the institute highlighted that this measure could have negative consequences for MSMEs that heavily depend on MoMo for their financial transactions.
“Worthy of attention is the potential impact on micro and small enterprises, especially traders and farmers within the agricultural value chains concentrated in rural areas. For these segments, especially traders and transporters of foodstuffs who rely on MoMo to address security concerns with carrying cash across the country, an increase in cost is likely to be transferred to consumers,” the statement said.
The institute stated that this action might set off inflation related to food as well as non-food items.
The Institute expressed concern that the revised charges would be passed on to customers in the emerging social media-driven e-commerce ecosystem, which depends on MoMo for payment, in addition to the move to restrict MoMo transactions.
“As service providers on the various e-commerce platforms will pass on the charges to consumers in the form of increased prices of goods and services,” the statement said.
MoMo agents across Ghana, in a collective statement shared with the media, announced the adoption of a temporary measure restricting cash withdrawals to GHS 1,000 per transaction starting from December 1.
ISSER expressed concern that the repercussions of these restrictions could be substantial, especially for underserved and last-mile populations.
“On average, 76 percent of mobile money agents are within 30 minutes of consumers in rural areas. On the other hand, it takes 2 hours for over 50 percent of rural dwellers to reach an ATM, with only about 40 percent being able to reach a bank or microfinance in two hours,” the statement said.
This circumstance According to ISSER, a large number of MoMo users in rural areas would have to choose between using cash or paying exorbitant transaction costs because there were no ATMs, banks, or microfinance institutions nearby.
Amina Agyeman Rawlings recently shared a heartfelt tribute, shedding light on her father’s deep affection for pets and animals.
While keeping pets is a common practice in Ghanaian traditional homes, the love for animals by the country’s presidents has often been overlooked and remains a lesser-known aspect.
“You created your very own Garden of Eden, full of all manner of animals living in harmony, where they would otherwise be each other’s lunch! From Jack Parlance your rooster to the wild geese who still think they own your home; to your doves, hawks and your many dogs to name but a few. It is no wonder, that at the moment of your departure, your dogs gathered around your usual sitting spot, howling till they eventually slept from exhaustion.”
The ‘Lucifer’ encounter
The late former president, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, is remembered as a passionate admirer of both nature and animals, a sentiment affirmed by those close to the former first family.
Anecdotes recall a youthful Jerry Rawlings during his senior high school days, where he earned a reputation as one of only two individuals capable of successfully riding a notoriously challenging horse named ‘Lucifer.’ Remarkably, this horse allowed no protective gear on its back, leaving riders entirely at its mercy. According to Alex Segbefia, a former Minister of Health and Achimota School contemporary of Jerry Rawlings, only ‘geniuses’ could master the art of riding Lucifer, described as a formidable challenge. Yet, the late former president reportedly navigated this task effortlessly.
Adding to his equestrian adventures, JJ Rawlings is said to have occasionally ridden a horse owned by the former Libyan president, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, during one of his visits to the country.
Kwame Nkrumah captured with a German Shepherd
In an uncommon glimpse into the past, a photo captures Ghana’s inaugural president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, casually strolling alongside a German Shepherd dog.
While the precise date of the image remains uncertain, it is plausible that it was taken at President Nkrumah’s residence, depicting him affectionately patting the dog on its back.
Additionally, during his tenure as the Prime Minister of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah embarked on a visit to the former Emperor of Ethiopia, King Haile Selassie, renowned for his profound fondness for animals and pets.
In a recorded video documenting Nkrumah’s tour of Ethiopia, he and his delegation venture into the emperor’s garden, where they are introduced to a lion supposedly kept as one of King Haile Selassie’s pets.
Displaying remarkable composure, Nkrumah gently pats the lion, weighing between 170 to 210 kilograms, with a smile.
However, some members of his entourage attempt to replicate the gesture, revealing a mix of terror and trepidation, particularly when faced with the imposing presence of the domesticated lion.
Approximately 300 individuals, affected by the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, have been successfully relocated to fully-furnished residences constructed by North Tongu’s Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Ablakwa, who had earlier accommodated the group temporarily at St. Kizito SHS, announced the successful transition of the affected residents.
Despite the quarters being a temporary arrangement, the MP emphasized its positive impact—allowing the school to resume its original function while affording constituents a decent living arrangement until they can fully recover.
In a post dated December 9, 2023, Ablakwa highlighted that residents would not be burdened with rent or utility fees during their stay in the provided accommodation.

Tonight, some 300 beloved constituents of mine are going to bed in far better conditions than the congested classrooms they have been compelled to live in for the past 10 weeks.
Relocation day has been a great success.
God bless Construction Ambassadors of the First Sky Group for the building, our revered chiefs for the land, the MP’s office for furnishing and courtyard preparation.
As emphasized earlier, all occupants will not pay rent. The MP’s office shall also take care of all utilities (electricity and water bills) until my beloved displaced constituents are resettled in their permanent homes.
This Safe Alternative Housing Project provides another key advantage of ensuring that all displaced persons at Mepe St. Kizito Senior Technical School have now been relocated so that the school which almost collapsed would be saved. The stranded 800 first-year students can now report to school. Continuing students in 2nd and 3rd year can also prepare to resume after losing some 6 weeks.
My office will strongly support every effort to revive St. Kizito and offer special interventions to catch up with schools across the country.
I commend all our volunteers and partners who made this new beautiful housing project possible in just 7 weeks.
Now, let’s go make our second Safe Alternative Housing Project in Mepe another success.
In this together, rising together.

In a detailed interview on Original FM in Accra, a 24-year-old lady, acknowledging her role as the companion of a married man, shared the motivations behind her decision to maintain a relationship with someone significantly older, akin to her father’s age.
During the comprehensive discussion, she revealed that choosing mature partners offered her various advantages.
In her case, she highlighted the presence of a father figure in her life, indicating that the connection provided valuable guidance and a sense of stability.
“In my opinion, I prefer mature men than the younger ones because some of us did not get father care, so we need that love protection and understanding and that can be gotten from an older man… so, I am getting the father role and a boyfriend on the same person,” she added.
“I have seen a picture of his wife before, he actually showed it to me, they have two children together but we have never met before,” she added, stating that she started the relationship with the man when she was 20 years.
She emphasized that there was a financial component to the relationship even though, in her case, she controls her emotions because she doesn’t anticipate getting married in the near future.
“I must admit that we, the young girls are very naïve, so these sugar daddies are taking advantage of us in such relationships,” she submitted in reaction to the recent court case in which a side chick lost a case she brought before the courts against a benefactor.
Ten weeks ago, a humanitarian crisis unfolded as water spilled from the Akosombo and Kpong dams, leaving thousands without homes and livelihoods. In response, Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa initiated immediate efforts to support affected families and communities.
Relocation efforts and the Role of Schools
In a commendable move, schools in non-flooded areas served as makeshift homes for displaced families. Among them was St. Kizito Senior High School in Mepe, North Tongu Constituency, which housed hundreds of forced residents.
A Decisive Move: Fully-Furnished Quarters for Residents
On December 9, 2023, MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa facilitated the relocation of around 300 individuals from St. Kizito Senior High School to fully-furnished quarters. These temporary accommodations, though, were not only a relief for the displaced but also allowed the school to return to its original purpose.
Decent Living Conditions Without Rent or Utility Fees
MP Ablakwa emphasized that while the quarters were temporary, they provided a dignified living space for constituents until they could reclaim their lives. Notably, residents were exempt from paying rent and utility fees during their stay.
Formal Handover and Ongoing Improvements
In a significant gesture, MP Ablakwa formally handed over the three-block residences to the residents for immediate use. Even as residents moved in, artisans were putting finishing touches on the mini-estate, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance the living conditions of those affected by the dam-related crisis.

In a recent interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM on December 8, popular Ghanaian rapper Eno Barony emphasized the need for increased support and recognition for female musicians in the country.
Beyond the music industry, she called on governmental institutions to enhance their backing for women in various fields.
Eno Barony underscored the importance of promoting inclusivity and urged ministries and organizations to actively involve female talents in various events.
“We should support ourselves more and we also should be supported. It would be great if institutions like the ministries call on female musicians for events and all that. It would go a long way towards helping us. So women supporting women should not be in the music industry alone. It should be everywhere,” she said.
“Every woman who finds herself in a male-dominated area has to work ten times harder. No just female rappers, because they call it a man’s world. So no matter how good you are, that thing that ‘she’s a girl, what can she do?’. So we have to prove that we are capable,” she said.
Eno Barony went on to say that she doesn’t think there will be any immediate changes to how people currently view women and that more men will always enter the music industry. Women would thus need to contribute in some way.
“I don’t think it will ever change because the guys will never stop coming so it’s always going to be male dominated. So we just have to do our part,” she said.
Eno Barony made it clear that the objective is to create a welcoming environment where women can succeed alongside their male counterparts rather than to compete with them.
Veteran musician, has made a controversial statement, asserting that Ghanaians voting for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia lack love for the country.
During an interview on Cape Coast-based Property FM, he expressed the view that choosing Bawumia as a candidate implies voters do not prioritize themselves and their families.
As the convener for AriseGhana and a staunch supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rex Omar contended that Bawumia has failed miserably.
“Someone that has governed this country with Akufo-Addo for over 7 to 8 years ago and all the things he said he couldn’t achieve any of them.
“Bawumia is now saying that we should vote for him to become the president of this country because he has got his own ideas,” he told the host of the show monitored by MyNewsGh.com
He fumed “If you vote for such a person then it means you don’t have good intentions for this country and it shows you don’t love yourself and your family”.
She went on to explain her position that women must put in ten times more effort to succeed in the music industry, pointing out that there is a mindset that doubts women’s aptitude in many fields, including music, and that women must continuously demonstrate their abilities.
The Accra West region of the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd. (ECG) has successfully recovered a total of one million, two hundred and seventy-seven thousand kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electric energy from 1,390 customers involved in various forms of illegal activities.
The billed energy amounts to Two million, Three Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty-Three Ghana cedis (GH¢2,315,423.00).
These customers were identified during the Company’s ongoing operation ‘Fix the Bill and Pay the Bill,’ launched recently.
The operation, which commenced on Monday, November 6, 2023, and is expected to conclude on December 11, is simultaneously taking place across all of ECG’s operational areas.
The initiative aims to capture consumption readings for all postpaid customers, ensuring accurate billing, fostering customer confidence in the billing process, and promoting timely payment of bills.
In the Accra West region, which has a total customer population of 636,437, there are 59,416 postpaid customers.
The General Manager for ECG Accra West region, Mr. Emmanuel Akinie, highlighted the positive outcomes of the ongoing exercise, noting that the Company is also utilizing this opportunity to audit the integrity of all installed meters and recover debts owed to it.
“Our field staff are actively auditing the integrity of every meter they encounter in the field. We have so far uncovered instances where certain customers have been involved in illegal activities, stealing power and thereby depriving the Company of revenue from the services we are providing,” he said.
He continued by saying that the teams had found other clients whose meters were broken and they were not paying for the electricity they used.
The identified clients were referred to the closest ECG office, where procedures were started to recover the lost income and normalize their association with the company, he said.
Mr. Akinie expressed regret over recent reports of meters being stolen in certain areas and stated that the company was in communication with law enforcement to stop the trend.
“We have reports of some syndicates who are stealing installed meters from customer premises. Together with the police and other agencies, we are on the hunt for such persons and we will do all within our power to bring them to book,” he said.
There are eight district offices in the west of Accra. The districts in question are Nsawam, Korlebu, Kaneshie, Achimota, Amasaman, Bortianor, Dansoman, and Ablekuma.
Continuing the discussion on the controversy surrounding Nigerian musician Nathaniel Bassey’s call for Ghanaian gospel artists to create more songs in English, Ghanaian gospel singer Kwesi Oteng has clarified his endorsement of Nathaniel Bassey’s statement.
During an interview with TV3’s Berla Mundi on December 8, Kwesi Oteng explained that supporting English songs does not imply neglecting local dialects. Instead, it involves broadening the conversation to an international level.
He referred to Nathaniel’s suggestion to compose more songs in English, emphasizing that it’s not about ceasing existing practices but rather aligning with global standards.
“English is a big language. Among our capacity as Ghanaians to write very nice local music, there is also a wide generation of treasure that we have in this country who have been schooled and well developed in writing songs in English or with the capacity of doing things in English,” Oteng explained.
“Nathaniel did not say we should change our language. He said, write more songs in English. Okay, so this is not a person who is trying to get us to stop what we’re doing. But when we get a conversation about international standing, why not adapt? Or, like, why not have English as part of the conversation?” he added.
Recognizing the popularity of English-language gospel songs throughout the world, Oteng called for encouragement and publicity for performers who write excellent English songs. Additionally, he made note of how these artists support the nation’s representation abroad, irrespective of cultural barriers.
“The biggest three songs that have left African shores to hit the ends of the world are all in English. Local dialects are songs that are within our circle, which is amazing and powerful. All I’m saying is that the capacity that we have in Africa of people who can write very well in Twi. Africa has also produced artists that can write very well in English. It shouldn’t be a negative thing,” he said
“In elucidating his position, Cwesi Oteng asserted that he includes both Twi and English songs in his albums, acknowledging the strengths and diversity each language brings. He promoted a constructive outlook, underlining that artists who choose to write in English should receive support rather than criticism, recognizing their distinct contributions to the gospel music scene in Ghana.
“I have Twi songs. I have all those as part of my songs. I have strengths. And part of my strength as a person is writing songs in English. And I don’t have to put it down because I live in a community where English songs don’t thrive,” he stated.
If worries about airlines’ incapacity to repatriate profits are not addressed promptly, Nigeria runs the risk of losing major international airlines that service its two major airports, Lagos and Abuja, according to the Regional Vice-President of the International Air Transport Association for Africa and the Middle East.
“We are getting to a breaking point for Nigeria where airlines will drop off and not operate to Nigeria,” Kamil Alawadhi told AviationGhana and selected African journalists during a press briefing at the IATA office in Geneva, Switzerland.
Nigeria is yet to propose a definitive plan to address the approximately $792 million in blocked funds belonging to airlines operating in the populous West African country. Despite initial efforts to engage with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on this matter, the Nigerian government has remained silent for several months.
According to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a total of $1.9 billion in airlines’ funds is currently blocked in Africa, with Nigeria being the most affected.
The top five countries facing challenges in repatriating airline funds include Egypt with $348 million, Algeria with $199 million, the XAF Zone with $183 million, and Ethiopia with $128 million.
