Ama Bawuah, mother of Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae, has revealed that she deliberately chose not to remarry after her divorce in order to fully dedicate herself to raising her children.
Speaking on the Diva Doc Let’s Talk podcast on April 22, 2025, Ama Bawuah explained that her children have always been her top priority, a commitment that influenced many of her life decisions.
“I had Amaarae at 25 and Papa at 27. I guess we all grew up together. And they have all been my priority. I never remarried because I never wanted somebody competing with my children,” she stated.
She emphasized that any potential partner who could not accept her children as a central part of her life was not welcome.
“If you make any negative comment about my children, you are out of the door,” she added.
The mother of the “Sad Girlz Luv Money” singer also opened up about her parenting journey, including the decision to raise her daughter in Ghana after an incident that raised concerns during Amaarae’s teenage years.
“I organised her 16th birthday party in the basement and garage. So, they turned the basement into a disco. I went downstairs to give them food and based on what I saw I decided to take them back to Ghana,” she recounted.
According to her, the choice to relocate was not only based on what she witnessed but also on the behavioral changes she observed in her daughter.
“She was becoming mouthier at that time, so I said it was time to go back to Ghana,” she said.
Ama Bawuah’s remarks have sparked conversation online, with many applauding her for prioritising motherhood and being intentional about her parenting values.
