Former Black Stars assistant coach, Maxwell Konadu, has confirmed that he could return to South African football next season.
Konadu is currently without a club after parting ways with Black Leopards. However, the experienced Ghanaian coach says discussions are underway for a potential comeback.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, he revealed that his agent is in talks with a number of South African clubs about a possible deal.
“My agent has been calling to see how I’m doing and all that, and once I’m home, I’ll wait for the next step to take,” Konadu said.
“Definitely, I’ve spoken to several clubs. I only have to wait for the season to end, but for now, we don’t have to go into which clubs are talking to me.”
The former Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC head coach hinted that a return to South Africa is likely, given the strong offers he’s received and his agent’s presence in the country.
“Since my agent is based in South Africa, it’s clear the offers are coming from clubs there. So, I may move back next season,” he confirmed.
Konadu also pointed out that even South Africa’s second-tier leagues offer better pay and attract more skilled players than Ghana’s top-flight league. He believes this makes the South African lower divisions more competitive than the premier league in Ghana.
“The second-tier league in South Africa is more competitive than the Ghana league,” he said.
“They pay their players well, and that has attracted top talent. Even during international breaks, matches in those leagues are suspended because many players get national team call-ups,” Konadu added.
