Ghana, Germany working on formal framework for exportation of medical personnel

Ghana and Germany are in talks to establish a structured framework that would enable qualified Ghanaian healthcare professionals to work in Germany through ethical and regulated migration pathways.

This emerged during a high-level meeting between Ghana’s Ministry of Health and a German delegation led by the German Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Müller Manuel, and officials from INZAG Germany. The meeting, held in Accra, focused on enhancing bilateral ties in the health sector, with discussions spanning infrastructure development and international workforce mobility.

Germany expressed keen interest in not only investing in Ghana’s health infrastructure but also recruiting trained Ghanaian medical personnel through a government-to-government cooperation model. The initiative is intended to ensure a mutually beneficial exchange that supports both countries’ healthcare needs.

Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, welcomed the proposal but emphasized the need for strategic alignment with Ghana’s national health workforce agenda.

“This collaboration must be built on reciprocity, skills development, and long-term benefits for both nations,” he stated.

He stressed that any future migration programme must safeguard the availability of healthcare professionals within Ghana and avoid compromising local health service delivery.

Also present at the meeting was Mr. Diogo Serra, Commercial Director of INZAG, a German firm known for its expertise in healthcare construction and systems engineering. He affirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s health infrastructure drive.

INZAG, he noted, stands ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to build modern and sustainable health facilities nationwide.
