Asante Kotoko has officially announced the departure of head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, following a series of disappointing performances in the Ghana Premier League.
The decision comes after Kotoko’s recent 2-0 defeat to Nations FC, marking their second consecutive loss and extending their winless streak to four matches.
Currently, the team sits fourth on the league table with 47 points, trailing league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by six points.
Dr. Ogum returned to Kotoko in July 2023 for a second stint, having previously led the team to a Ghana Premier League title in 2022.
However, his recent tenure saw the team finish sixth last season with 49 points, twelve points behind champions FC Samartex 1996.
In a statement, the club mentioned that the decision was made “following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time”.
Asante Kotoko has indicated that further updates regarding the coaching position will be provided in due course.
“We urge our supporters to remain calm and continue to support the club during this transition. Further updates will be communicated in due course,” the statement concluded.
Kotoko will aim to bounce back when they face Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Matchday 29 this Sunday.
