A tragic accident on the Fomena-Dompoase highway in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region has left seven people dead, with several others critically injured.
The deadly crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, near the ECG office, involving three vehicles: a Toyota Corolla (GE 7271-24), a Sprinter bus (GS 6383-20), and a VIP bus (GW 8455-23).
According to a report by Adom News’ Isaac K. Normanyo, the VIP bus was travelling from Cape Coast to Kumasi, the Sprinter was heading in the opposite direction from Kumasi to Cape Coast, while the Toyota Corolla was on its way from Fomena to Dompoase.
The accident is said to have occurred when the Sprinter driver made a wrongful overtaking attempt as the Corolla ahead was turning into a washing bay. The Sprinter lost control, veered into the middle of the road, and was struck on the side by the speeding VIP bus approaching from the opposite direction.
“The Sprinter was badly mangled and split into two due to the impact of the crash,” Normanyo reported.
All seven people who died were passengers on the Sprinter bus. Several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals.
Obuasi MTTD Commander, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, confirmed the devastating nature of the crash and the state of the victims.
“Some of the bodies were dismembered,” he said.
He added that the Corolla driver fled the scene after the accident, while the VIP bus driver—who was alone in the vehicle—was injured.
The injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Dompoase and Fomena Hospitals. Authorities say some victims may be transferred to better-equipped facilities based on the severity of their injuries.
