In a shocking incident that has left residents of Dzelukope, a suburb in Keta, Volta Region, reeling, a man believed to be in his early 60s was found dead in stagnant water.
The discovery, which occurred during the early hours of Monday, April 21, is suspected to have happened amidst the Easter picnic celebrations.
According to Mr. Gideon Foli Ashiagbor, a member of the area’s unit committee, the body was found in the water between Togbi Dzelu’s road and the seashore. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, he shared, “I received a call on Tuesday, April 22, that a lifeless body of a man, believed to be about 60 years old, was floating in the water, which sparked fear among the residents.”
Family members later identified the deceased as Mr. Atileto Edo.
Mr. Ashiagbor further explained that the man had been in good health and mentally sound before his death, raising suspicions about the cause of his sudden demise. “An examination of the body revealed bruises on the forehead and blood coming from the nose, which raised suspicions of foul play,” he added.
The Keta Police have taken the body to the Keta Municipal Hospital morgue for an autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing. Mr. Ashiagbor urged the community to remain calm and assist the police in determining the cause of death and identifying any possible perpetrators.
