The South African women’s national team, Banyana Banyana, has received a sum of $882,352 from the South Africa government for their victory at the 2022 WAFCON tournament in Morocco.
The amount is to be shared among the squad that fought for victory, Sport, Arts & Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa said.
“I’m pleased to announce $882,352 dollars (R15m) payout from the government. The disbursement of the payments has already begun,†Minister Nathi Mthethwa announced.
Banyana Banyana beat the host country, Morocco, at the finals to lift the WAFCON trophy for the very first time.
The names of the playing body and the technical team have been inked into the history books of South African football and will be remembered forever.
