An extensive attack using missiles and drones has caused significant damage to a major power plant in Ukraine and caused harm to others. This is part of Russia’s new campaign to damage energy sites.
The Trypilska plant, which provided a lot of electricity for Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr, was hit many times. This caused serious damage to the equipment and started a big fire at the plant. When the first drone came, the workers hid in a shelter to stay safe and alive. This was said by Andrii Hota, who is the director of the state company that operates the plant, Centrenergo.
They saw the plant on fire with lots of smoke and flames all around it. “It’s really scary,” said Hota. Hours later, the rescuers were still clearing away the rubble.
The plant gave electricity to 3 million people. None of them lost power because the grid could handle the low demand for electricity during this time of year. The effects of the strikes may still be noticed in the next few months, especially when people start using air conditioning more in the summer.
At least 10 other attacks last night damaged the power and gas systems in Kharkiv, which is the second biggest city in Ukraine. Dmytro Kuleba, the Foreign Minister, said that over 200,000 people in the area have no electricity because it has been hit many times.
DTEK, the biggest energy company in Ukraine, said the strikes were a really powerful attack. The Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, said it was a big missile attack that badly hurt our energy industry.
Russia has started attacking Ukrainian energy facilities again, and last month’s attacks caused a lot of the country to lose power. This hasn’t happened since Russia’s invasion in 2022.
The number and precision of the attacks have worried the people in charge of protecting the country and made officials rush to find better ways to defend energy sources. The strikes also showed if Ukraine can make fixes fast.
Ukraine’s leaders asked for more defense systems to protect against attacks from the air, but the supplies are taking a long time to arrive.
“Today, it shows that there are no more missiles to shoot down,” Hota said.

Germany, UK, and Russia call for caution after Iran threatens Europe
Russia, Germany, and Britain want Middle Eastern countries to be calm after Israel said it is getting ready to protect itself because of a threat from Iran.
The German airline Lufthansa stopped flying to Tehran, and Russia advised against traveling to the Middle East.
Iran promised to get back at the people who attacked its embassy in Damascus on April 1. This attack killed an important Iranian general and six other Iranian military officers. This has made the situation in the region even more tense because of the war in Gaza.
Israel did not say they did the attack, but the leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that Israel should be punished for the attack. He said it was like an attack on Iran.
Iran’s United Nations mission said that if the UN Security Council had punished the people responsible for the attack, then Iran wouldn’t feel the need to punish them.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is still fighting in Gaza and getting ready for security in other places.
“We will harm anyone who hurts us. ” “We are ready to protect Israel’s security, both by defending and attacking,” he said after visiting an air force base.
Iran has told the US that it will not react quickly to Israel’s attack and will try to avoid making things worse.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin that Israel will directly fight back if Iran attacks, according to Gallant’s office.
Fighting has been happening in the Middle East since the Gaza war started. Groups backed by Iran are supporting the Palestinians and attacking from Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq. Tehran has not fought with Israel or the United States, but it has said it supports its friends.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock asked the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian to be very careful and not make things worse.
Russia’s government says it’s best for its citizens to avoid going to the Middle East, especially to Israel, Lebanon, and the Palestinian territories.
“Everyone needs to be careful not to make the situation in the region worse. It’s not very stable or predictable, so it’s crucial to act responsibly. ” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a press conference.
‘Possibility of making a mistake’
British foreign minister David Cameron told Amirabdollahian that Iran should not involve the Middle East in a bigger fight.
Cameron said he is very worried that making a mistake could lead to more fighting.
Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department, said that Secretary of State Antony Blinken talked to the foreign ministers of Turkey, China, and Saudi Arabia. He told them that it’s not good for anyone if the situation gets worse, and they should tell Iran not to make things worse.
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, said that Iran is planning to attack Israel. He told the Prime Minister of Israel, Netanyahu, that the US is very committed to protecting Israel from these threats from Iran and its allies.
The US thinks Iran might attack Israel, but it probably won’t be a big enough attack to make the US start a war.
Iran is the third biggest oil producer in OPEC. Oil prices are high right now.
On Wednesday night, an Iranian news agency posted a message in Arabic on the X platform saying that the skies over Tehran were closed for military training. Later, they took down the message and said they never posted it.
Lufthansa said they won’t likely fly to Tehran until after April 13th. Austrian Airlines is still planning to fly on Thursday, but they are changing the flight times to avoid the crew having to stay overnight.
Iran’s airspace is an important route for Emirates and Qatar Airways flights to Europe and North America.
Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot and Air Arabia, are some of the airlines that go to Tehran. They have not yet answered requests for comments. -

8 people killed and 12 injured by Russian missile strikes in Ukraine
Attacks with missiles from Russia in Ukraine last night and on Saturday has caused the death of eight people and injured 12 others, according to officials.
According to the governor of Kharkiv, Oleh Syniehubov, six people died and 11 were hurt in missile attacks on the city of Kharkiv, which is the second biggest city in Ukraine. The attack broke buildings where people live, a gas station, and a cafe where little kids go to learn.
On Saturday afternoon, another attack in Kharkiv killed one person and injured another, according to the mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov. Another rocket attack killed a regular person in the southern Odesa region, the governor, Oleh Kiper, said.
Last night, Russia used 32 drones and 6 missiles made in Iran to attack Ukraine. This information was confirmed by the air force commander. The Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed three cruise missiles and 28 drones. General Mykola Oleshchuk told everyone in a message. “Russian murderers keep scaring Ukrainians and attacking Kharkiv and other calm cities,” he said.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the attacks last night were aimed at Ukraine’s military factories that make and repair armored vehicles, drones, and military airfields, as well as areas where they believe foreign mercenaries are located. The ministry said they reached all of their goals.
Ukraine shot rockets called Vampire at Russia on Saturday morning, according to the report, 10 of them were shot down over Russia’s border in Belgorod by defense systems, according to the ministry.
Belgorod government Vyacheslav Gladkov said that the rockets were destroyed as they were getting close to the city of Belgorod. Belgorod is the main city in the region with the same name. He also said that 12 houses in the city were damaged. In a village close by, a person’s house caught on fire and some other buildings were also harmed, according to Gladkov.
It was not clear from what he said if the buildings were damaged by rocks falling from the stopped rockets or if the rockets actually hit the buildings.
Fights on the land
Russian troops were moving forward in Ukraine, and it was hard for Ukraine’s armed forces to push them back, said Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of Ukraine’s armed forces.
Syrksyi mentioned that the situation in the Bakhmut area in eastern Donetsk is very difficult. He said Russian soldiers are attacking all the time using groups of soldiers and vehicles.
There are bigfightshappening to the east of the town of Chasiv Yar. Ukraine still controls this town, and it’s close to the city of Bakhmut, which is occupied by enemies.
The Russian army is trying to get past our defenses, but they haven’t been able to take over the town of Chasiv Yar. We are still in control there.
Close to Avdiivka, another city in the Donetsk region controlled by the Russians, the most intense fighting was happening in Pervomaiskyi and Vodyanyi, as reported by the official. He also said that things are very tense in the southern and northeastern parts of the front line. -

Six Russian jets destroyed by Ukrainian drones after blasting drinking song
Ukrainian sources say that at least six Russian warplanes were destroyed in an attack on Morozovsk airfield.
Last night, Ukraine carried out a big kamikaze drone attack on three important Russian military airfields. There were over 60 explosions reported in the Rostov region where the Morozovsk base is located.
As they got closer to the military base, some of the Ukrainian drones began playing a German song from the 1970s about drinking and staying drunk for seven days.
Approximately 20 Russian soldiers were killed or injured in the attack, according to RBC Ukraine. Additionally, eight planes were damaged.
Frontline bombers like Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34 are regularly kept at the airfield.
They were used to attack Ukraine during the war.
As of April 4th, there were about 26 Su-34 fighter jets and three Su-35 warplanes at the airbase, according to OSINT reports.
The SBU secret service and the Ukrainian army worked together to carry out the kamikaze drone strike.
The joint special operation had amazing results – at least six Russian military planes were destroyed and eight more were badly damaged, according to a source from RBC Ukraine.
If it’s true, it would be a major hit to Vladimir Putin’s air force during the war.
The Russian side did not confirm or independently analyze the claims.
The attacks happen at a time when people are saying that Russia might send more soldiers to fight against Ukraine.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia is getting ready to gather 300,000 soldiers on June 1st.
He didn’t give any more information about the claim. -

Numerous people evacuated as Russian dam burst, flooding entire area
Many people in the city of Orsk, Russia had to leave their homes because a big dam broke and caused a lot of flooding.
This morning, the water level went up by 16 feet because the Ural river flooded the city. At least three people died because of the flood.
The city near the border of Russia and Kazakhstan evacuated 711 people, including 210 children. The city has a population of 230,000.
Two out of the three parts of Orsk are being emptied out because of the possibility of flooding. This would affect around 4,000 homes and over 10,000 people. Officials shared this information with the Russian state news agency TASS.
Before, there was a big problem in the Orenburg region because the water levels went up a lot because the ice melted. So the government had to declare an emergency for the whole area.
Orsk is the area that has been affected the most, but Vladimir Putin’s government is dealing with very bad flooding in more than 30 areas in Russia. The flooding is even worse than normal and it’s expected to get even worse next week.
“The dam in the Old Town near Orenburgskaya Street broke,” the city administration said.
A video shows people and pets being taken to safety in boats because they were flooded for up to two weeks.
The local prosecutor’s office said the dam broke because it wasn’t taken care of properly.
In the past few days, heavy flooding has affected a large area in Russia and parts of Kazakhstan, including areas near the Siberian and Urals mountains.
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the flooding could be the biggest natural disaster in Kazakhstan in 80 years in terms of how much land is affected and how many people it hurts.
“We need to learn from these big floods,” he said.
Big machines were brought to a dangerous situation to try to fix a break in a dam in Orsk, a city with 230,000 people, about 1,100 miles east of Moscow.
Orsk mayor Vasily Kozupitsa said: “The situation is very serious and difficult. ”
Because the water level from the upper part of the Urals rose a lot, the dam couldn’t hold the weight.
The dam near the village of Stroiteley broke.
He said: “Today, in a few hours, the water has gone up by 4 meters (16ft). ”
In Orenburg city, Mayor Sergey Salmin said things are very serious because over 300 houses are already flooded.
“He said to leave right away, before the situation gets dangerous. ”
This year, floods are getting worse because it’s been really hot and the snow on the mountains is melting.
Warnings showed that the Uver River in Novgorod region, the Protva River in Kaluga region, and the Sudogda River in Vladimir region had high levels of danger.
A state of emergency was declared in five areas of the Chelyabinsk region because of a flood.
Critics are saying that Putin has not focused on important things like flood protection while he spent money on hypersonic missiles and fought a war in Ukraine. -

Russian officials attempt to connect attack on the Moscow concert to Ukraine
Russian officials said on Friday that they believe the attack on a concert hall in Moscow is connected to Ukraine. They found photos on a suspect’s phone showing soldiers in Ukrainian uniforms.
After the shooting and fire at the Crocus City Hall concert venue on March 22 that killed 145 people, Russian officials have been trying to say Ukraine is responsible, even though Ukraine says they didn’t do it and a group related to the Islamic State said they did it.
Officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have not shown any proof for the connection as they tried to change the story from the security services’ inability to stop the attack.
Russia’s main law enforcement agency, the Investigative Committee, announced on Friday that they found pictures on one of the suspects’ phones showing people in Ukrainian flag uniforms and destroyed houses in the background.
The phone had a picture of a Ukrainian stamp with a rude message on it, the committee said. It did not show the picture, but it might be about a famous stamp from Kyiv that remembers when Ukrainian soldiers swore at a Russian warship during the 2022 invasion.
The committee also said that one of the suspects sent pictures of the roads and entrances to the concert hall to their boss on February. 24 – two years since Russia attacked Ukraine.
The committee said that the findings may show a connection between the terrorist attack and the special military operation, using the Kremlin’s term for the war. The agency’s statements could not be checked by a different source.
The day after the attack, officials said they caught four men in the Bryansk area next to Ukraine and accused them of doing the shootings. Putin and other officials say the four people were going to Ukraine.
Four people from Tajikistan went to a court in Moscow because they were accused of terrorism. They had signs of being severely beaten. Several people have been arrested as helpers in different parts of Russia, and some people possibly connected to the attackers were also taken into custody in Tajikistan.
The attack happened two weeks after the US Embassy in Russia said there might be an attack in Moscow at a big event. The US State Department told Russian officials about the threat.
This week, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for Putin, did not give a response to a report in The Washington Post. The report said that US officials had identified Crocus City Hall as a potential target. Peskov said that this is a matter for the security services.
The attack showed that Putin, who has been in power for 24 years, had a big security problem. He became president by being tough on terrorists from Chechnya.
Many people are wondering how gunmen were able to kill so many people at a large event. Critics think that Russia’s security forces are more concerned with stopping political opposition than dealing with real dangers to the public. -

Macron rejects Russian claims over Paris and Kiev involved in attack on Moscow
French President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday that the Russian defense minister’s remarks about Ukraine and France being involved in the deadly concert hall attack in Moscow last month are not sensible.
Macron talked about this a day after the French and Russian defense ministers had a rare phone call. The media said different things about the call.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Sergei Shoigu told the French Defense Minister that the Kyiv government does everything with approval from the West. He also said he hopes that the French special services were not involved in the Moscow attack.
Macron told reporters that the comments were complicated and scary, but not surprising. He was speaking at the opening of a new swimming pool for the Paris Olympics.
“Simply put, it’s silly,” Macron said.
“He said that saying France or Ukraine could be responsible for the Moscow attack doesn’t make sense and doesn’t match with reality. ” “But it’s a way of tricking people with false information, and it’s something Russia uses in its wars. ”
The defense ministry of France said that their minister, Sebastien Lecornu, strongly spoke out against the March 22 attack on a concert hall in Moscow. The attack killed 145 people, making it the worst assault on Russian soil in many years.
Lecornu said that France does not have any evidence connecting this attack to Ukraine.
He also criticized Russia’s war in Ukraine and said France will keep helping Kyiv as much as necessary, according to the French defense ministry.
The Russian summary said Shoigu told France to not send soldiers to Ukraine in the future. Macron has not decided if he will do this or not.
The call was the first time the Russian and French defense ministers talked since October 2022.
Macron said on Thursday that France is ready to share important information about the Moscow attack to help others affected by terrorism.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his officials are blaming Ukraine and the West for the attack, even though Ukraine strongly denies it. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack, and the US warned Russia in advance about it. -

Ukraine and Russia exchange drone claims over Black Sea
Russia and Ukraine argued on Monday about shooting down drones over the Black Sea. Both countries seem to be focusing more on using drones in their military activities.
The Russian Defense Ministry said on the Telegram app that its air defense units stopped six Ukrainian drones from carrying out a “terrorist attack. ” It also said that two more drones were taken down near the border region of Belgorod.
A person from Ukraine’s Air Force named Illya Yevlash said on TV that Ukrainian forces shot down a Russian drone called “Forpost. ” He said it was a very advanced and expensive drone in Russia’s weapons.
Yevlash said he was surprised to find such an expensive Forpost attack drone, worth $8 million. It’s rare to find a target like that.
The Forpost drone is described as a Russian version of a spy plane used by Israel for many years. It can fly up to 3 miles high and do surveillance for 16 hours without stopping.
Natalia Humeniuk, who speaks for the Ukrainian forces in the south, said that Russian forces are using drones more often now because the Ukrainian air defense has been able to shoot down at least two A-50 surveillance planes.
She said on national TV that we saw over 200 spying drones in our area from Odesa to Zaporizhzhia in the last day.
“Today there were less of them, but the enemy is still trying to gather information. ” They definitely have to make up for the A-50.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it’s important to make more drones in Ukraine. He wants to reach a goal of making one million drones by 2024.
“The war requires our defense factories to make as many weapons as needed, as quickly as needed,” Zelenskyy said in his video.
“Drones will play a big role in winning this war and it needs to be a word from Ukraine.
He said that Ukrainian drones helped Ukraine win. We need more flying robots and better flying robots from Ukraine. -

Macron asserts he is certain Russia will attack Olympics in Paris
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that he is sure Russia will try to cause trouble at the Paris Olympics this summer. This shows that the games are taking place in a tense global situation.
Macron said he has no doubt, even about information, when asked if he thinks Russia will try to target the Olympics.
The Russian embassy in Paris didn’t reply right away to a request for comment.
Macron spoke at an event in Paris for the opening of the new Olympics swimming center and said that he is now more aware of foreign dangers that could affect the security and organization of the games.
The big event is happening while there are many problems in the world, like Russia fighting in Ukraine and Israel having a conflict with Hamas in Gaza. This makes it hard to keep the Olympics safe.
A person who works for Macron said they can’t say if the President was talking about specific information that shows Russia might try to interfere in the future.
Instead, she said: “Russia has been getting tougher, and we’ve been noticing it for a few months. ”
Macron is now being more firm with Russia and said that he is determined to beat them. He also mentioned that European soldiers might go to Ukraine in the future. But he made it clear that France does not want to start a fight with Russia.
His government has also started to take a harder stance against what they believe are false information campaigns from Russia in Europe.
Earlier this week, the Foreign Minister of France, Stephane Sejourne, said that France will suggest that all countries in the European Union should put sanctions on people who are spreading false information. This is because France thinks that Russia is trying to make the European Union weaker.
Russia and the International Olympic Committee
Russia and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are not getting along well before the Paris Olympics. Russian and Belarusian athletes will compete without their flags and anthems, and they won’t be in the opening parade.
At first, they were not allowed to compete in other countries because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Russia announced last year that it wants to bring back the ‘Friendship Games’ in 2024. The International Olympic Committee is not happy about it and sees it as a political move.
Dmitry Peskov, who speaks for the Kremlin, said this week that the IOC’s treatment of Russia’s plans to host sports events for the world was not okay. He also said that the IOC is harming the Olympics by not staying away from politics. -

Russian billionaires’ combined wealth close to US$600 billion – Forbes
The richest people in Russia made US$72 billion more money in the last year, making their total wealth US$577 billion, according to Forbes. Vagit Alekperov, the former president of the oil company Lukoil, is the richest person in Russia.
In 2021, before Russia attacked Ukraine, Forbes said that Russian billionaires had about $606 billion altogether. Expensive things and Russia’s focus on war instead of its economy have helped the economy to improve.
Many rich Russian people were put under punishment by Western countries because they wanted to punish President Vladimir Putin and his friends for starting a war in Ukraine. Their overall money reduced to $353 billion in 2022.
Alekperov’s money went up to $28. 6 billion from US$20. 5 billion in the last year, according to Forbes. He is now in first place in Russia, taking over from Andrei Melnichenko who is now in seventh place. Andrei made his money in fertilizers and his wealth dropped from $25. 2 billion to $21. 1
Leonid Mikhelson is the boss of a Russian gas company called Novatek. Forbes said he is the second richest person, and his money went up by $5. 8 billion to $27. 4
Forbes said there are now more super rich people in the world than ever before, with a total of 2,781 billionaires. The top 20 of them have gained the most wealth. Alekperov was ranked 59th in the world.
Forbes said that they are richer than ever, worth a total of US$14. 2 trillion, which is an increase of US$2 trillion from 2023.
Putin has said many times that the sanctions from Western countries did not hurt Russia’s economy. He also said that Russia’s economy grew faster last year than the economies of the Group of Seven countries, which are the ones who put the sanctions on Russia.
Russia has a lot of natural resources and its economy got much better after a bad time in 2022. But most of the growth comes from making weapons and bullets for the war in Ukraine, so it’s not really improving the lives of the people in Russia.
This year, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) thinks that the Russian economy will grow by 2. 6But they also believe that the economy will face difficult times because many people are leaving the country and there is not enough technology.
Russian business people are getting a lot of help from Western companies leaving. Many companies are selling their stuff for cheap, or having their Russian business taken over and run by local managers. -

Zelenskyy modifies his command and dismisses more assistants as Russia strikes hard
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired a trusted assistant and some advisors on Saturday. This is part of a larger staff change. Meanwhile, Russia launched new attacks overnight.
Zelenskyy fired his top aide Serhiy Shefir from his job as first assistant, which he had been doing since 2019. The Ukrainian president fired three advisers and two officials who were in charge of helping volunteers and soldiers.
No one explained right away why there were big changes in the staff recently. On Tuesday, Oleksii Danilov and Valerii Zaluzhnyi were fired from their jobs. Oleksii Danilov was the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Valerii Zaluzhnyi was in charge of the armed forces. This happened on February. Write this text in simpler words: “8. ” Earlier this month, he was chosen to be Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Ukraine’s air force said that Russia sent 12 drones and shot 9 down, and also fired 4 missiles into eastern Ukraine.
Russia fired 38 missiles, carried out 75 airstrikes, and launched 98 attacks using rocket launchers in the past day, according to Ukraine’s military.
Ukrainian energy company Centrenergo said on Saturday that the Zmiiv Thermal Power Plant, one of the biggest power plants in eastern Kharkiv region, was destroyed by Russian shelling last week. Despite efforts, approximately 120,000 people in the area were still experiencing power outages. A total of 700,000 people initially lost electricity after the plant was damaged on March 22nd.
Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s energy stuff more and more, and it has caused a lot of damage in different places.
Authorities in the Poltava region said on Saturday that a facility, like a power plant, had been hit several times. But they didn’t say exactly what kind of facility it was.
At the same time, we found out on Saturday that 99 drones and missiles hit different areas of Ukraine on Friday. Local officials in the Kherson region also said one civilian died on Saturday morning. A person from the Dnipropetrovsk region passed away in a hospital because of injuries from a shell, as reported by the regional Governor. -

Ukraine attacks oil refinery and drone manufacturing in Russia
Ukrainian drones attacked a big oil refinery and a drone factory in Russia‘s Tatarstan province on Tuesday. This is the farthest strike into Russia by Kyiv since the war started over two years ago.
A recent attack happened near the cities of Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk in Russia. 12 people were hurt in the attack, which took place about 745 miles east of Ukraine.
Lately, Ukrainian drones have been launching more frequent attacks on Russian refineries and oil terminals, in an effort to cause more damage on Russian land.
Ukrainian experts have been making their drones able to fly farther and carry more weapons, because Ukraine needs more powerful weapons and troops on the battlefield. Drones are a cheaper choice for Ukraine until they get more military help from the US.
Neither side can make a big impact on the 1,000-kilometer front line right now.
Security and intelligence officials from Ukraine said they attacked a place in Yelabuga, Tatarstan where drones are made. They used long-range drones produced in Ukraine. Tatarstan is well-known for having a lot of factories, and one factory near Yelabuga has made drones that explode, which are designed by people from Iran.
Ukrainian officials said that spies were part of an attack on the Nizhnekamsk oil refinery.
The officials talked to The Associated Press but didn’t want their names to be known because they weren’t allowed to talk to the public. It was unusual for officials in Kyiv to admit they were responsible for an attack on Russia, because they usually don’t talk about attacks on Russian soil. Sometimes they might mention them indirectly.
The Associated Press could not check if the claims were true.
Russia often uses Shahed drones to launch air attacks on Ukraine. They send a lot of them at once to try and overcome Ukraine’s air defenses.
Tatarstan officials said the attack didn’t stop factories from working, while Nizhnekamsk’s mayor said the attempt to attack the refinery was stopped by air defenses.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Kyiv is trying to distract people from their losses by trying to attack Russia, in order to show their supporters that they can still fight against Russia.
During a meeting with top military leaders, Shoigu said that Russian soldiers have taken control of over 400 square kilometers (about 155 square miles) since the beginning of the year.
Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov from the Kremlin said that the Russian army is doing things to make their defenses stronger against these attacks.
“The army is trying to make this danger smaller and eventually get rid of it completely,” he said during a phone call with journalists.
Ukraine has used drones to attack St. and nearby areas before. Petersburg is about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) north of the border. The facilities in Tatarstan, a province on the Volga River, seem to be the farthest target Ukraine has tried to attack.
Last year, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that his country made a weapon that can reach a target 700 kilometers away. It seems like he was talking about a drone attack on Russia.
Last year, Ukraine’s minister for digital transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, said the government wanted to create a high-tech army of drones. He said that their importance in the war will be clear by the end of this year. Last year, Ukraine taught over 10,000 new people how to fly drones.
Ukraine made dangerous sea drones that hit Russian navy ships in the Black Sea. The attacks that worked well made the Kremlin feel bad. On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to choose Adm. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that Alexander Moiseyev is the new leader of the navy.
Putin also chose Vice Admiral as a name. Sergei Pinchuk is now the leader of the navy’s Black Sea Fleet after the previous leader, Adm. , was let go. -

Russia continues to bombard Ukraine in attempt to weaken Ukraine’s air defense
Russia shot drones and missiles at southern and eastern parts of Ukraine overnight. This hurt more than a dozen people. The attacks are meant to weaken Ukraine’s defences.
Ukraine’s air force stopped 26 out of 28 Shahed drones using air defence systems. Russian troops fired five missiles last night, it was reported.
The Kremlin’s forces have been attacking Ukraine a lot more lately, with missile attacks on the capital city Kyiv and energy facilities across the country. The attacks are also meant to make Ukrainian people feel less confident and to punish them for attacking Russia.
Russia wants to weaken Ukraine’s air defense, according to a report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
This would weaken Ukraine’s ability to fight because it is waiting for promised but late military support from the West, including ammunition for its artillery and air defenses.
“Kyiv is facing a problem. If there is a long and drawn-out war in the air, Russia will have an advantage without enough help from the US and its friends,” according to IISS. “Ukraine’s ability to keep Russian planes away and make it hard for the Russian Air forces is very important for the war. “Ukraine is waiting for its Western friends to give them F-16 fighter jets. This will help Ukraine put pressure on Russia. Ukrainian pilots have been learning how to fly warplanes in the West for several months.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if Ukraine’s Western allies provide air bases for F-16s to launch attacks against Russia, those bases will be a legitimate target. F-16s need strong runways and hangars to protect them while they are on the ground.
The arrival of many F-16s won’t make a big difference in the military situation, but Ukrainian officials are happy to have them to fight against Russia’s strong air force.
Putin said that the F-16s will not make a difference in the fighting.
“We will destroy their planes just like we destroy their tanks, vehicles and other equipment,” Putin said to pilots during a visit to an air base.
However, Putin said that Russia does not want to start a war with NATO. He said it was “completely ridiculous” to think that Russia would attack a country that is part of NATO after the war in Ukraine.
Officials in Mykolaiv region, near the Black Sea in southern Ukraine, said 12 people were hurt and six homes were damaged in a Russian attack on the city on Wednesday afternoon with a ballistic missile.
During the night, in southern Ukraine, there was an attack in Zaporizhzhia. Shahed drones hit a neighborhood where people live. Two women, aged 72 and 74, were slightly hurt. The regional Governor gave this information. -

Russia accuses Islamic State for allegedly carrying out attack in Moscow
Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on Wednesday that it was very difficult to believe that Islamic State could have been able to attack a concert hall in Moscow last Friday, killing at least 143 people.
Zakharova said again that Moscow believes Ukraine was responsible for the attack on the Crocus City Hall, even though they haven’t shown any proof. This was the worst attack Russia has had in 20 years. The Russian government’s emergency department released a list of names showing that 143 people died in a mass shooting last Friday. Before, the official count said 139 people died.
The Islamic State said they caused the massacre, and US officials think it was their Afghanistan group, Islamic State Khorasan, based on their information. Ukraine keeps saying it didn’t do the attack.
Zakharova said the West blamed Islamic State to take the focus away from Ukraine and the Western governments that support Kyiv.
“They needed to make the Western countries trust them, so they used ISIS as a distraction. The media started spreading this right after the attack,” she said.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that the attack was done by Islamic militants. He also hinted that Ukraine may have benefited from the attack and might have been involved in it.
He said that someone in Ukraine had made a way for the gunmen to escape to Russia before they were caught on Friday night.
On Tuesday, the leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that the gunmen first tried to enter his country but then went to Ukraine instead when they saw that the borders of Belarus were closed.
The head of Russia’s FSB security agency said that he thinks Ukraine, the United States, and Britain were part of the attack in Moscow.
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron replied on social media platform X, saying: “Russia’s claims about the West and Ukraine on the Crocus City Hall attack are complete nonsense. ”
The leader of Ukraine’s main intelligence department, Kyrylo Budanov, said at a conference in Kyiv that he thinks Russian officials knew about plans for a big attack since at least mid-February.
Budanov, who was mentioned in Ukrainian media, said that the authorities didn’t say anything about the attack because they either didn’t realize how big it was, or they wanted to blame Ukraine and fire some officials.
After the shooting, a US official said the US had told Russia recently that an attack might happen. -

Ukraine increases its expenditure on domestic weapons to counter Russia
The Ukrainian government plans to spend a lot more money, around US$1. 4 billion, in 2024 to buy and make weapons in their own country. This is much more than the amount they spent before Russia invaded.
Also, many weapons are now being purchased from private companies instead of government-owned factories. They are growing all over the country and quickly becoming the main players in an industry that used to be controlled by government-owned companies.
Ukraine needs all the help it can get to push Russia away from its land. A good thing that is happening is the small but quickly growing defense industry. The government is giving lots of money to this industry because they hope that making more weapons and ammunition in our own country will help us in the fight.
Over the last year, the US and Europe have been working really hard to send weapons and help to Ukraine. This is because Ukraine is dealing with a strong Russian military and has a strong defense industry of its own.
A factory that makes mortar shells and is owned by individuals started in western Ukraine last year. It makes about 20,000 shells every month.
“I think we are getting closer to winning for our country,” said Anatolli Kuzmin, the 64-year-old owner of the factory. He used to make farm equipment and left his home in southern Ukraine when Russia invaded in 2022.
However, the defense sector in Ukraine has been limited by a lack of money and staff, as well as excessive government bureaucracy, like many other parts of the country’s military system. A stronger business industry could help get rid of problems and make factories produce weapons and ammo even faster.
The situation is very important.
Russia has taken control of a big part of Ukraine and is moving forward along a long front line by using many troops to make small advances. Ukrainian soldiers often face more enemy soldiers and better weapons, and this has made them feel less motivated.
“We need a mortar right away, not in three years, preferably yesterday,” said Taras Chmut, the director of the Come Back Alive Foundation. They have raised over $260 million in the last ten years to give Ukrainian troops weapons and vehicles.Business people during war times
Kuzmin, who owns a factory that makes parts for farm equipment, left the city of Melitopol in the south when Russia took over his factory in 2022. He started making a model of mortar shells right after Russia took over Ukraine in 2014 and annexed Crimea.
Kuzmin took control of a large warehouse in western Ukraine last winter. He wants to make 100,000 shells every month and make engines and explosives for drones. He is one of the entrepreneurs changing Ukraine’s weapons industry, which was controlled by government-owned companies after the Soviet Union broke up. Today, most of the defence industry is owned by private companies, which is very different from how it was a year ago, and is the opposite of Russia’s defence industry, which is controlled by the government.
Every new projectile is put in craft paper and packed in wooden boxes. Then it is sent to Romania or Bulgaria where explosives are put inside. A few weeks later, they are sent back and sent to the front.
Kuzmin wants to build a factory to make explosives and is looking for a partner to help.
Challenges that stop something from getting bigger.
Ukraine is spending more on its military, but they are not getting the $60 billion in aid from the US and European countries are having trouble giving them enough ammunition.
Ukraine’s defense sector has improved a lot, but they can’t beat Russia without a lot of help from Western countries. This is according to Trevor Taylor, a research fellow at a think tank in London.
“Ukraine cannot make all the weapons it needs for this battle,” Taylor explained. “The delay of $60 billion of American aid is causing a big problem. ”
Russia is spending more money on its military industry, which has helped protect its economy from the worst effects of Western sanctions. The defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, recently said that they have made a lot more tanks, drones and ammunition for the country’s military.
“The whole country is standing up and working to win,” he said.
Ukraine made a lot more mortar shells and artillery ammunition this year compared to last year. This was said by Oleksandr Kamyshin, Ukraine’s minister of strategic industries. There are many new drone companies starting up, and the government is spending about $1 billion on the technology, in addition to its defense budget.“We used to make in a year what we now make in a month,” said Vladislav Belbas, the boss of Ukrainian Armour, which makes lots of military vehicles.
The 28th brigade of the Ukrainian army is fighting near Bakhmut. They have not had any problems with getting weapons from other countries because they can make their own. Major Artem Kholodkevych said that they can cover their weapon needs with what they can make in Ukraine.
However, weapon factories in our country have many problems. These include making sure they have the right weapons for soldiers and being at risk of being attacked by missiles from Russia.
However, the biggest problem right now is not having enough workers.
Yaroslav Dzera, who runs a factory for Ukrainian Armour, has a hard time finding and keeping good workers. Many of them have been sent to fight, which makes it even harder.
Dealing with administrative obstacles or bureaucracy.
Weapons companies say that bureaucracy is making it difficult for them to grow.
The government is trying to work better since the war started. They are also making it clear how they choose companies to work with. However, government representatives say that the country still has a lot of progress to make.
Right before President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took over, Ukraine’s former top general, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, wrote an essay for CNN. He said Ukraine’s defense sector was held back by too many rules and not enough competition.
Despite facing difficulties, Ukraine’s drone industry has been a success story. Sea drones made in Ukraine are a good weapon against the Russian ships in the Black Sea.
There are about 200 companies in Ukraine that are now making drones, and they are making a lot more drones than before. In December, they made 50 times more deliveries than they did a year ago, according to Mykhailo Fedorov, who is Ukraine’s minister of digital transformation.
Russia’s war in Ukraine is not just about who has better drones or missiles, said Serhii Pashynskyi, who is in charge of the National Association of Ukrainian Defence Industries trade group.
“We are only competing with Russia in terms of people and money for the war,” he said. “If we learn to use these two simple things, we will succeed. ” If we don’t, it will be a big issue. -

Two more Canadians killed while defending Ukraine in conflict with Russia – Global Affairs
A group of soldiers from another country were secretly doing missions against Russia in the Ukrainian war. Their Canadian leader was killed in action. A person who studies wars in the former Soviet Union said this.
Jean-François Ratelle, also known as Hrulf, was in charge of the Norman Brigade. He was one of two Canadians who died while fighting for Ukraine in the last month.
A university professor in Ottawa, named Jean-François Ratelle, said that the Norman Brigade seems to have changed its job from defending to doing other things away from the fighting. Ratelle, who researches people who fight in other countries, is not related to the soldier with the same name who passed away.
“According to Ratelle, the Norman Brigade’s job in the war is shifting. They are doing more secret missions behind enemy lines and less traditional combat in cities. ”
“It seems like they became helpful for the Ukrainian military intelligence. ”Global Affairs Canada knows that two Canadians have died while fighting in Ukraine. This brings the total number of Canadians killed to 11 since Russia invaded in February 2022.
Alain Derasp, 49, from Quebec, died in Ukraine on Feb. At 27 years old, he was a soldier in the Canadian Army and a dad to four kids, said a notice about his death.
Derasp was teaching soldiers in Ukraine how to help others who are hurt. He got sick near the fighting and died. A person from the military told this but didn’t want their name known.
Luc Fortier, who was in the same regiment as Derasp, said that Derasp was always happy and very committed to his job.
The infantry is like a family, according to Fortier. He said it hurts a lot for the soldiers who knew Derasp to lose him so suddenly.
Derasp was born in Campbellton, N. Band joined the Canadian Forces in 1992. He worked for 26 years, helping keep peace in the United Nations and NATO missions in Yugoslavia and Afghanistan.
Derasp was a warrant officer when he retired. He lived in Chicoutimi, Quebec.
Ratelle, who was from Joliette, Quebec, was killed in a fight, said a friend from Ukraine, Anna Filippova. In a letter, Filippova said she saw him not long after he got to Ukraine in March 2022.
“He was a strong fighter, a very strong and unshakable leader and fighter,” she said. “He was brave and driven, with strong beliefs, and he didn’t let anything stop him from reaching his goal. ”
The National Defence Department said they have records of a person named Jean-François Ratelle who was an artilleryman for three years. A friend told me he joined the French Foreign Legion later on. In pictures on social media after he died, he was wearing the uniform of the famous French military group. The French army did not give a comment when asked.
Chris Ecklund, a business owner and kind person from Hamilton, has helped Canadians go to Ukraine to fight and has talked to Ratelle. He said Ratelle is a committed soldier.
“He was answering the call like many other people from Canada and around the world,” Ecklund said in an interview. “He supported the cause and was just trying to lend a hand. ”
Professor Ratelle mentioned that foreign fighters have been involved in the conflict, but mostly in supporting roles. They have taken part in big battles, but they are mostly used for holding the front lines, conducting raids across borders, and acting as distractions before Ukrainian troops launch their attacks.
The Norman Brigade was started at the beginning of the war. Some people left because they couldn’t agree on what the unit should do. He said that the unit used social media to raise money online, but then became more secretive after a few months of the war. Russian propaganda said that there are far-right people in the unit, but Ratelle said he hasn’t seen evidence of that.
The Russian government first reported the deaths of the two Canadians on social media. They shared photos and personal information about the men. On X platform, which used to be called Twitter, the Russian embassy in South Africa said that both men were “mercenaries” and that Ratelle was killed by a drone attack. -

Islamists who struck Russia also attempted to strike France – Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron said that the people who killed 137 others in a concert hall near Moscow were part of a group linked to the Islamic State. This group had tried to carry out attacks in France recently, but didn’t succeed.
This is why the French government raised the country’s security alert to the highest level on Sunday, according to Macron and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal. Extra soldiers will be ready to be on patrol in important places, like schools.
The Islamic State said they were responsible for the attack in Moscow on Friday.
Russia doesn’t agree with the United States that the Islamic State did the shooting in Moscow. They say Ukraine might be responsible. Macron said it was selfish and unhelpful.
Macron said that Islamic State claimed the attack and our intelligence services and main partners have information that it was indeed Islamic State who did it.
This particular group. In the last few months, they tried to attack our country several times. Attal later said there was a plan to attack the city of Strasbourg in eastern France, but it did not happen.
“The Islamic State said they were responsible for the attack in Moscow and also planned to attack European countries, so we raised our security level to the highest. ” Attal said this while at a train station in Paris.
“We will use special methods all over France,” he said.
Around 3,000 soldiers are currently involved in the “Sentinelle” operation, where they patrol places like train stations, places of worship, schools, and theaters. Another 4,000 people will be ready to take action if needed, Attal said.
France has stopped two potential attacks since the beginning of the year.
France has had many attacks by Islamist people in the last ten years. The scariest one was in 2015 at the Bataclan concert hall and some cafes and bars in Paris. Some people in Paris said it made them realize why security needs to be increased.
IT worker Raffele Alegretti said the Moscow concert hall attack reminds him of the Bataclan years, and it has left a lasting impact on him.
Macron said that France will work more closely with Russian intelligence to fight against groups that are attacking many countries. He mentioned this when he visited French Guiana.
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, did not talk about Islamic State when talking about the attackers. He said they were trying to escape to Ukraine. Russia started a war with Ukraine when it invaded the country in February 2022.
Putin said that some people on the Ukrainian side were ready to secretly bring the gunmen across the border. Ukraine says they didn’t do the attack. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy says Putin is trying to blame Ukraine for not stopping the attack in Russia. -

Three airstrikes against Kyiv in five days as Russia intensifies its city-bombing
Russia fired missiles at Kyiv for the third time in five days on Monday. It seems like they are attacking Ukrainian cities more often now. This has been going on for three years and there hasn’t been much change in the fighting.
Five people got hurt in the attack in the Ukrainian capital, and two of them were taken to the hospital, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko.
Russia shot two big missiles at Kyiv from Crimea in the daytime, but they were stopped before they could hit the city, according to Serhii Popko, who is in charge of the Kyiv City Military Administration. Loud booms were heard in the city, which scared the people who live there.
Missile pieces broke homes in two areas and a gym in another area of the city, according to Ukraine’s National Police.
The attack happened three days after another attack at a concert hall in Russia where over 130 people were killed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin tried to connect the attack to Ukraine, even though a group linked to the Islamic State said they did it.
Analysts said that Putin might use the Moscow attack to get more support for the war and also to have a reason to increase attacks on Ukraine. -

Four charged with organising attack on Russian concert theatre that claimed over 130 lives
Four men blamed for organizing the Russia show lobby assault that killed in excess of 130 individuals showed up under the steady gaze of a Moscow court Sunday giving indications of extreme beatings as they had to deal with formal psychological warfare penalties. One seemed, by all accounts, to be scarcely cognizant during the conference.
Although the men’s condition raised questions about whether they were speaking freely, a court statement stated that two of the suspects accepted their guilt in the assault after being charged during the preliminary hearing. There had been before clashing reports in Russian news sources that said three or each of the four men conceded culpability.

The offense conveys a most extreme sentence of life detainment.
The court requested that the men, every one of whom are residents of Tajikistan, be held in pre-preliminary authority until May 22.
According to Russian media, the men were subjected to torture during the security services’ interrogation. Mirzoyev, Rachabalizoda, and Fariduni all displayed severe bruising, including swollen faces; Rachabalizoda also had a heavily bandaged ear. Russian media said Saturday that one of the suspects had his ear cut off during cross examination. The Related Press couldn’t confirm the report or the recordings indicating to show this.
The fourth suspect, Faizov, was brought to court from a clinic in a wheelchair and sat with his eyes shut all through the procedures. He was gone to by surgeons while in court, where he wore a medical clinic outfit and pants and was seen with numerous cuts.
After being charged, court officials said that Mirzoyev and Rachabalizoda admitted being responsible for the attack.
The conference came as Russia noticed a public day of grieving for the assault Friday on the rural Crocus City Lobby show scene that killed no less than 137 individuals.
The assault, which has been guaranteed by a partner of the Islamic State bunch, is the deadliest on Russian soil in years.
In an address to the nation on Saturday night, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the four suspected attackers had been detained by Russian authorities on Saturday, and seven additional individuals had been detained on suspicion of involvement in the attack. Kyiv vigorously refuted his claim that they were taken while fleeing to Ukraine.
Occasions at social establishments were dropped, banners were brought down to half-staff and TV diversion and publicizing were suspended, as per state news office RIA Novosti. A constant flow of individuals added to a stopgap remembrance close to the wore out show corridor, making an enormous hill of blossoms.
“Some people came to relax with their families, others came to a concert, and any one of us could have been in that situation. Also, I need to communicate my sympathies to every one of the families that were impacted here and I need to honor these individuals,” Andrey Kondakov, one of the grievers who came to lay blossoms at the remembrance, told The Related Press.
“It is a tragedy that has affected our entire country,” Marina Korshunova, a kindergarten employee, stated. It is beyond comprehension that this event affected young children. Three kids were among the dead.
Heros keep on looking through the harmed constructing and the loss of life ascends as additional bodies are found, a few families actually couldn’t say whether family members who went to the occasion designated by shooters on Friday are alive. Moscow’s Branch of Wellbeing said Sunday it has started recognizing the assemblages of those killed by means of DNA testing, which will require something like fourteen days.
Igor Pogadaev was frantically looking for any insights concerning his better half, Yana Pogadaeva, who attended the assault show. The last he heard from her was the point at which she sent him two photographs from the Crocus City Corridor music scene.
After Pogadaev saw the reports of shooters starting to shoot at concert attendees, he hurried to the site, yet couldn’t track down her in the various ambulances or among the many individuals who had advanced out of the scene.
“I looked everywhere, asked everyone questions, and showed pictures. In a video message, Pogadaev told the Associated Press that no one saw anything or could say anything.
He watched flares blasting out of the structure as he settled on berserk decisions to a hotline for family members of the people in question, yet got no data.
As the loss of life mounted on Saturday, Pogodaev scoured emergency clinics in the Russian capital and the Moscow area, searching for data on recently conceded patients.
Yet, his significant other wasn’t among the 182 revealed harmed, nor on the rundown of 60 casualties specialists have previously distinguished, he said.
The Moscow Locale’s Crisis Circumstances Service posted a video Sunday showing gear destroying the harmed music setting to give heros access.
Putin claimed that Russian authorities had captured the four suspects as they attempted to flee to Ukraine through a “window” prepared for them on the Ukrainian side of the border. He described the attack as “a bloody, barbaric terrorist act.”
Russian media broadcast recordings that clearly showed the detainment and cross examination of the suspects, including one who told the cameras he was moved toward by a unidentified right hand to an Islamic evangelist by means of an informing application and paid to partake in the strike.
In his address to the nation, Putin did not mention ISIS, and Kyiv accused him and other Russian politicians of falsely tying Ukraine to the attack to fuel support for Russia’s third-year conflict in Ukraine.
U.S. insight authorities said they had affirmed the ISIS subsidiary’s case.
This attack is entirely to blame on ISIS. There was no Ukrainian contribution at all,” Public safety Gathering representative Adrienne Watson said in an explanation.
The U.S. imparted data to Russia toward the beginning of Spring about an arranged fear based oppressor assault in Moscow, and gave a public admonition to Americans in Russia, Watson said.
The strike was a significant humiliation for the Russian chief and happened only days after he established his hold on the country for an additional six years in a vote that followed the cruelest crackdown on disagree since the Soviet times.
A few pundits on Russian virtual entertainment addressed how specialists, who have persistently stifled any resistance exercises and gagged free media, neglected to forestall the assault regardless of the U.S. admonitions.
ISIS, which battled against Russia during its mediation in the Syrian nationwide conflict, has long designated Russia. In a proclamation posted by the gathering’s Aamaq news organization, the ISIS Afghanistan partner said that it had gone after an enormous social occasion of “Christians” in Krasnogorsk.
The gathering gave another assertion Saturday on Aamaq, saying the assault was completed by four men who utilized programmed rifles, a gun, blades and firebombs. It said the aggressors terminated at the group and utilized blades to kill some concert attendees, giving the strike a role as a component of the Islamic Express gathering’s continuous conflict with nations that it says are battling against Islam.
In October 2015, a bomb planted by ISIS brought down a Russian traveler plane over Sinai, killing every one of the 224 individuals ready, the vast majority of them Russian travelers getting back from Egypt.
The gathering, which works chiefly in Syria and Iraq yet in addition in Afghanistan and Africa, likewise has asserted liability regarding a few assaults in Russia’s unstable Caucasus and different locales in previous years. It enlisted contenders from Russia and different pieces of the previous Soviet Association.

Poland seeks answer from Russia after missile crosses its airspace
Poland asked Russia why one of its missiles went into Polish airspace during an attack on Ukraine. This made Poland send out F-16 fighter jets.
Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles for the third time in four days, and the second time they aimed at the capital city Kyiv.
Serhiy Popko, who is in charge of Kyiv’s military, said that Russia used missiles launched from bombers. The capital city had a warning for more than two hours because rockets came into Kyiv in groups from the north.
He said the attacks came from the Engels district in the Saratov region of Russia.
Preliminary information shows that no one was hurt or injured and there was no damage in the capital city, he said.
Poland asked Russia why one of its missiles ended up in Polish airspace during an attack on Ukraine. This made Poland send F-16 fighter jets into the sky.
Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles for the third time in four days, and the second time they targeted the capital city of Kyiv.
Serhiy Popko, the person in charge of Kyiv’s military administration, said that Russia used cruise missiles that were launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers. There was a warning in the city for over two hours as rockets came into Kyiv from the north in groups.
He said the attacks came from the Engels district in the Saratov region of Russia.
Preliminary data shows that no one was hurt and nothing was damaged in the capital, he said.
“We need to accept that the war is happening close to us and we are involved in the conflict between the West and Russia,” said Artur Bartkiewicz in the Rzeczpospolita newspaper on Sunday.
In 2022, two people from Poland died in an explosion from a missile. Western leaders said the deaths happened because a Ukrainian missile missed its target, but they also blamed Russia for starting the war and causing the need for Ukraine to defend itself with missiles.
Saturday night, in Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula, one person was killed and four others were hurt in a missile attack by Ukraine on the city controlled by Russia. Mikhail Razvozhaev shared on his Telegram page. -

Russia attacks Ukraine’s electricity industry broadly
Russia launched a big attack on Ukraine’s electric system on Friday. According to Russia, it was in response to recent attacks on them. This could make the war between the two countries worse, especially after Vladimir Putin was re-elected as president.
A lot of people in Ukraine lost power in a few cities. At least five people died and the biggest hydroelectric plant in the country was damaged. This caused the nuclear plant, which has been dangerous during the war, to lose power for a short time.
Russia launched over 60 exploding drones and 90 missiles in a very harsh attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials. This is the most brutal attack since the war started in 2022.
Kharkiv, the second-biggest city in Ukraine, suffered the most damage, officials said. The attack happened a day after Russia shot 31 missiles into the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been asking Western countries for more air defense systems and weapons. He has been asking for this for several weeks and during this time, the U.S has given $60 billion. Congress cannot agree on aid, so it is delayed.
“Russian missiles come quickly, unlike aid to our state,” Zelenskyy said. It’s crucial to know how much it costs when things are delayed or decisions are put off.
Russia’s military said that the attacks on Friday were a form of revenge. Ukraine has been firing more shells into Russia’s Belgorod region near its northeastern border. They have also been using drones to attack Russian oil refineries and other energy facilities.
Ukraine attacked Russia on Friday and killed one person and injured at least three, local officials said.
Putin said that Ukraine is trying to scare people and disrupt the election that just ended on Sunday. And he promised to retaliate.
The day after he said he won, Putin said that Russia wants to make a safe area inside eastern Ukraine to guard against faraway attacks and raids from across the border.
Russia has done better in fighting than Ukraine in the last few months. Ukrainian soldiers are tired and don’t have enough people and weapons. The battle line is over 1,000 kilometres long.
When Putin invaded in 2022, he called it a “special military operation,” and his officials mostly avoided saying “war. ” But on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a Russian newspaper that when the West joined Ukraine in the fighting, it became a war for Russia.
During the winter of 2022-23, Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy system, which led to many power outages in the country. Many people in Ukraine and the West thought that Russia might use the same strategy again this winter, but instead Russia attacked Ukraine’s defense industries.
Russia has used advanced missiles and cheap drones from Iran to overwhelm and weaken Ukraine’s air defenses during the strikes.
Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, leader of Ukrenergo (the national utility company), said that Friday’s attack was the biggest on Ukraine’s energy system since the war started.
“This attack was very dangerous because the enemy used different types of weapons, like kamikaze drones, ballistic and cruise missiles,” he said.
Kudrytskyi claims that Russia tried to destroy important power plants in Kharkiv, which left at least 700,000 people without electricity. He thinks that there are many customers in other areas who also don’t have power, maybe hundreds of thousands.
Oleksiy Kuleba, who works with Zelenskyy, said that 31 people got hurt in the attacks. Also, 200,000 people in Odesa don’t have electricity all the time now. He said that electricity was restored for most of the 400,000 customers in Dnipropetrovsk region.
The big Dnipro hydroelectric power plant, which is the biggest in Ukraine, stopped working because it was hit by at least six missiles and got badly damaged. Ihor Syrota, the leader of Ukrhidroenergo company which manages the country’s hydroelectric plants, said they lost about one third of their power production. This is a big problem for the Ukrainian energy system.
Syrota said it’s hard to know how much the plant was damaged because the equipment is buried under concrete and metal debris from the explosions. He also said it will take a long time to fix everything.
The strikes caused a fire at the Dnipro plant, which provides electricity to the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia. This power plant is the biggest one in Europe. The nuclear plant lost its power for a few hours before it was fixed, according to Rafael Grossi, who is in charge of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He said this on Friday. The Zaporizhzhia plant in Ukraine has been taken over by Russian soldiers since the invasion started, and there is a chance that fighting nearby could cause a nuclear disaster.
The dam at the hydroelectric station is not at risk of breaking, according to the country’s hydroelectric authority. A dam breaking could stop the nuclear plant from getting what it needs and could cause big floods like what happened last year when a dam on the Dnieper River collapsed. -

13 individuals injured after Russia launches 31 missiles at Kyiv
Russia launched 31 missiles at Kyiv early Thursday morning, which was the first attack on the city in 44 days, according to officials. The air defences stopped all the missiles from coming in, but 13 people, including a child, got hurt from the falling debris.
People in Kyiv were woken up by big booms around 5 in the morning. Serhii Popko, who is in charge of the Kyiv City Administration, said that the missiles came from different directions at about the same time.
The air force of Ukraine said that Russia fired two big missiles and 29 smaller missiles at the capital city.
An 11-year-old girl and a 38-year-old man had to go to the hospital, the city government said. Eight more people got small injuries, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Ukraine’s Emergency Service helped about 80 people leave their homes.
Debris from missiles that were shot down caused a fire in a building, damaged cars, and made holes in the streets and a park. Some streets had trash and broken glass from broken windows on them.
The attack happened after Ukraine repeatedly bombed an area in Russia called Belgorod, near the border with Ukraine.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin said he will do the same back if someone attacks.
At a meeting in the Kremlin, Putin said Russia can fight back in the same way if the enemy attacks our civilian buildings and other important places. We have our own thoughts about this and our own ideas to do it. “We will do what we have planned. “ -

Russia and Ukraine exchange several prisoners of war despite differences over plane disaster
Russia and Ukraine have traded about 200 prisoners of war. This happened on Wednesday, even though there are tensions because of a recent military plane crash. Russia said the plane was carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war and was shot down by Ukraine’s forces.
After January24 planes crashed in Russia’s Belgorod region near Ukraine. Some Russian officials were talking openly about swapping prisoners of war in the future.
Russia’s military said that both countries gave back 195 prisoners of war to each other. After the announcement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 207 Ukrainians were set free. The reason for the different numbers was not explained right away.
We keep in mind every Ukrainian who is being held captive. Both soldiers and regular people. We need to bring all of them back. We are trying to solve it,” Zelenskyy said on X, which used to be called Twitter.
Dmytro Lubinets, the person in charge of making sure people’s rights are protected in Ukraine, said on social media that 50 prisoner exchanges have happened since Russia’s big invasion almost two years ago, and a total of 3,035 prisoners of war have gone back to their countries.
Andrii Yermak, who works for Ukraine’s President, said that some Ukrainian soldiers and police officers were set free. He said that some of them were caught while protecting Mariupol, Azovstal, and Snake Island.
The Russian military said that the Russian prisoners of war were in danger while being held captive. They will be flown to Moscow for treatment and help to recover. But they did not give any details or evidence.
Moscow had reported that 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war were on the military plane that crashed in January. The text is missing, please provide the content that needs to be simplified. Ukrainian leaders said they were supposed to exchange prisoners that day, but it didn’t happen. They also said they didn’t have any proof that the plane was carrying prisoners of war.
President Vladimir Putin met with his campaign team in Moscow to prepare for his reelection. He said that Russian investigators found that Ukraine used air defense systems from the US to shoot down a transport plane. Ukrainian officials did not say no to the plane being shot down, but they also did not admit to it and asked for a worldwide investigation.
Putin said Russia wants an official investigation to happen and will demand it, into what he called a wrongdoing by Ukraine. -

Ukraine President rejects ceasefire with Russia
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that the fighting would continue without a cease-fire, as this could allow Russian forces to regroup and launch further attacks.
“A break in fighting in Ukraine doesn’t mean the war is over,” Zelenskyy said while visiting Estonia. “Stopping for a moment would help Russia. ” It could destroy us later.
There have been a few times when people suggested temporary peace during Russia’s war in February 2022, but it never really happened.
Both groups are trying to get more weapons after fighting for 22 months. They might have to fight for a long time. During the winter, the front line is mostly still and about 1,500 kilometers long. They both need weapons like artillery shells, missiles, and drones that can reach far away targets.
Zelenskyy said that Russia is getting bombs and missiles from North Korea and flying machines from Iran. On January 1st. The White House said that the US intelligence officials believe Russia got ballistic missiles from North Korea and is trying to get them from Iran.
Zelenskyy visited Tallinn in Estonia as part of a two-day trip to Baltic countries, which have been strong supporters of Ukraine.
He met with the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, who gave him a shirt with the Estonian words “Kaitsetahe” meaning “The will to defend” printed on it. Zelenskyy wore the shirt while speaking to the parliament.
We need to stop tyranny. “Zelenskyy said that tyranny should not win. ” “Always” means all the time. All the time.
Zelenskyy and Kallas talked about Ukrainians who left for Estonia during the war. He said at a news conference that those of draft age should go back to Ukraine to help.
He said this as lawmakers in Kyiv sent a proposed law back to the government for changes. They were worried it might have rights violations and other problems.
The new law wants to make it harder for people who avoided joining the military when they were supposed to. Ukraine doesn’t have enough soldiers and needs more people to join.
Zelenskyy said last month that Ukraine’s military wants to get 500,000 more troops ready, but he said he had asked the leaders to explain the details on what is “a very sensitive matter” before deciding whether to agree.
He is asking for more help for Ukraine from its friends, in addition to the billions of dollars in military aid it has already received from the West.
“Ukraine requires more and better weapons,” said President Alar Karis during a news conference with Zelenskyy at the Presidential Palace.
“We need to make more military equipment so that Ukraine can have what it needs,” he said. “And if it’s not tomorrow, they should receive it today. ”
Zelenskyy visited Riga, the capital of Latvia. President Edgars Rinkevics said Latvia would give more military help to Ukraine. This was reported by Latvian public broadcaster LSM.
Latvia will give different weapons and bullets to Ukraine, like missiles, howitzers, 155 mm shells, and drones, as requested by Zelenskyy, according to LSM.
On Wednesday, Zelenskyy got promise of more help from Lithuania.
The European Union countries have given Ukraine 85 billion euros ($93 billion) in help. This was said by Karis. However, the help has decreased, worrying Ukrainians who would struggle to defend themselves against their larger neighbor on their own.
The US government wants to give $60 billion to Kyiv, but Congress hasn’t approved it yet. Europe promised to give 1 million artillery shells within a year, but they have only given about 300,000 so far.
Zelenskyy says Ukraine really needs defense systems to protect against Russian airstrikes that have hit civilian areas, even though Moscow officials say they are only targeting military sites.
In recent weeks, there have been a lot of Russian attacks with over 500 drones and missiles fired in December. On January 29th. According to officials in Kyiv, there are two significant challenges. They are using up Ukraine’s air defence resources and making it weak unless it can get more weapons.
The little countries in Eastern Europe are some of the biggest supporters of Ukraine when it comes to politics, money, and the military. Some people in the Baltic countries are worried that Moscow might attack them next.
Joseph Stalin took control of the three countries during World War II and they became part of the Soviet Union. They got their independence back when the Soviet Union broke up in 1991. They became a part of NATO in 2004, which means they asked for help in case of war from the US and its friends.
Wednesday night, a Russian missile hit a hotel in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-biggest city, and hurt 13 people, including a journalist from Turkey and the local governor. Oleh Syniehubov spoke. The city has been under attack for the past four nights, he said. -

Russia to rescue 9,000 kids out of border area targeted by Ukraine
9,000 children in a Russian border area are being relocated in response to the harm caused by shelling from Ukraine according to official on Tuesday. Kyiv’s soldiers are now attacking places far away from the war’s main area. The front line has not moved for over two years.
The governor of a Russian border area, Vyacheslev Gladkov, said that the children will be taken to a place further east, away from the border with Ukraine.
The news came one day after Russian President Vladimir Putin said the government wants to make a safe area to protect the border from attacks coming from Ukraine.
Ukraine is using its long-range weapons to attack oil facilities and storage areas in Russia. They are also trying to make Russia’s border areas uneasy, to put pressure on Putin.
Also, people from Ukraine who are against Putin and the government in Russia have been carrying out attacks across the borders.
Putin talked about the attacks with FSB leaders at a meeting on Tuesday.
Three people were hurt in an attack from Ukraine on the Belgorod region on Tuesday, according to Gladkov. One of them was a 14-year-old who had to have part of their arm or leg removed. He said his mother was also very injured in the attack.
Yesterday, four people from one family were killed in an attack in the village of Nikolskoe in Belgorod, according to Gladkov. A missile hit their house and killed a grandmother, mother, mother’s partner, and 17-year-old son.
“We couldn’t check if the claims from both sides about the battle were true. ”
The Russian defence ministry said they shot down two Ukrainian drones over Belgorod and one over the nearby Voronezh region. It didn’t say anything about any damage or injuries.
Russia attacked the city of Selydove in Ukraine using S-300 missiles. Four people got hurt and houses and cars got broken, the regional prosecutor’s office said.
Russian attacks on Monday killed one person and injured another in Donetsk, according to the regional governor Vadym Filashkin.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked Western countries to send more air defence systems to Ukraine as soon as possible. He also showed how difficult the situation is for Ukraine’s forces. He said that Russia used 130 missiles, over 320 drones, and almost 900 bombs to attack different parts of Ukraine this month.
Ukraine is working harder on its own defense industry and wants to achieve the same levels as it did in 1991. But it still needs a lot of help from Western countries, and that help has been getting less. -

Russia ready to use nuclear weapons if its sovereignty threatened – Putin
President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is willing to use nuclear weapons if its freedom or independence is in danger. This is a strong warning to the Western countries just before an election where he is almost guaranteed to win another six-year term.
The Russian leader keeps saying he is ready to use nuclear weapons since attacking Ukraine in February 2022. In his recent speech, he warned the West that getting more involved in the fighting in Ukraine could lead to a nuclear war.
In an interview, Russian state TV asked Putin if he has thought about using nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Putin said there was no need for that. However, his comments seemed to be a warning to the West that he is willing to do whatever it takes to defend his accomplishments there.
He said that countries who don’t set limits for Russia should know that Russia won’t set limits for them either.
During the interview, Putin said that US President Joe Biden is an experienced politician who knows the risks of making things worse. He also said he doesn’t think there will be a nuclear war in the world.
He also said that Russia’s nuclear forces are ready and prepared from a military perspective.
Putin said that if Russia’s safety is at risk, they are ready to use nuclear weapons.
He also said that Ukraine and its friends from the West will have to agree to a deal on Russia’s terms in the end.
“He said that instead of giving the enemy time to prepare for war again, we should have a serious discussion about making sure Russia is safe and protected. ”
Putin said that Ukrainian drones are attacking deep inside Russia to try to stop the country’s presidential election. It starts on Friday and Putin is expected to win by a lot because he has control over Russia’s political system and has silenced any opposition.
Russian officials said that there was a big attack from drones from Ukraine on Wednesday. The military said they shot down 58 drones in six areas. A drone crashed into an oil refinery in the Ryazan region, hurting at least two people and starting a fire. Another flying robot was shot down as it was getting close to a factory near St. Saint Petersburg
Ukraine said there were more Russian attacks on Wednesday.
A Russian attack in the town of Myrnohrad in eastern Donetsk killed two people and injured five others. The town is about 30 kilometers (about 20 miles) from the front line. -

Russia claims Drone attacks by Ukraine against targets located far within its borders
Officials from Russia have stated that Ukrainian drones successfully hit two oil buildings located deep inside Russia on Tuesday. At the same time, a group of armed people, said to be against the Russian government and based in Ukraine, caused concern in a border area just before Russia’s presidential election.
The drones attack in eight parts of Russia shows that Kyiv is getting better with technology as the war goes on for three years. The attack across the border made President Putin’s claim that the war hasn’t affected Russia seem less believable. Despite this, he is likely to win another six-year term because he has gotten rid of all opposition.
The news about fighting at the border was unclear, and it was impossible to be sure about what was happening in Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod regions. Attacks have been happening on and off in the area since the war started. People have been making different claims about who is responsible for the attacks, and there has been a lot of false information and propaganda spread about it.
Russian volunteers who are fighting for Ukraine, according to Kyiv officials, say they have crossed the border. The Freedom of Russia Legion, the Russian Volunteer Corps, and the Siberian Battalion posted videos and statements on social media, saying they were in Russia. They said they wanted “Russia free from Putin’s control. ”
The videos couldn’t be checked by someone else to see if they were real.
Ukrainian fighters tried to reach the town of Tetkino near the border, said the governor of Kursk region in Russia, Roman Starovoit. He said Tetkino was being attacked with bombs.
A group tried to sneak in and cause damage. He said in a video message on Telegram that there was a shooting battle, but no progress was made.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the Tetkino attacks were stopped, but didn’t give any more information.
It also said that Ukrainian soldiers tried four times to go into the Belgorod area, but all the attacks were stopped by warplanes, guns, and missiles.
Andrii Yusov from Ukraine’s intelligence agency said that the military groups are made up of Russian citizens.
“He said they do their own thing without anyone telling them what to do in Russia. ”
In May, Russia said that many Ukrainian fighters went into a town on its border in the Belgorod region. They attacked and made people leave, but more than 70 of the attackers were killed or sent back by a operation to stop terrorism. Ukrainian officials say they are not connected to the group.
At the same time, a drone from Ukraine hit and started a fire at an oil refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region, as reported by the governor, Gleb Nikitin. That area is about 775 kilometers (480 miles) from the border of Ukraine.
In another attack, a small flying robot was shot and destroyed in the area around Moscow. The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said this. The drone was close to Zhukovsky Airport, one of Moscow’s four international airports, even though it was brought down far south of the city center.
Another flying robot crashed into a place where they store oil in Oryol, which is 116 kilometres away from Ukraine.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last year that his country had made a weapon that can reach a target 700 kilometres (400 miles) away, which seems to be talking about drones.
The Russian military said they stopped Ukrainian drones over several areas in Russia on Tuesday.
Kyiv has been carrying out more aggressive attacks across a 1,500-kilometre (930-mile) front line in eastern and southern Ukraine. It has also been using more sea drones in the Black Sea, saying it has sunk Russian warships.
Kyiv’s soldiers want more weapons and help from Western countries. But right now, they’re having a tough time fighting against the larger and better-equipped Russian army in some parts of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said that Russian progress has stopped and the fighting is now in a much better position than it was three months ago.
“We had some problems because we didn’t have enough weapons and the sky was full of Russian drones,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with France’s BFM TV and Le Monde published late Monday on the Ukrainian presidential website.
On Tuesday, a big Russian military plane called Il-76 crashed while trying to take off from an air base in western Russia. There were 15 people on board. The statement didn’t say if anyone lived through it. The ministry thinks that a fire in the engine when the plane was taking off probably caused the crash. -

Russian armed groups from Ukraine report attacks into Russia
Three groups of Russian fighters from Ukraine say they have entered Russia and are now fighting against the government’s army.
The Freedom of Russia Legion (FRL) and Siberian Battalion (SB) shared videos claiming to show their soldiers in the Belgorod and Kursk regions of Russia.
The FRL and a Russian politician who was forced to leave his country said that “liberation forces” now have control of two villages.
Russia’s military department said they stopped the breakthrough attempts.
Ukraine’s military said they were not involved in the raids that happened across the border on Tuesday. Andriy Yusov, who speaks for the country’s military intelligence, said the paramilitary groups are independent organizations made up of Russian people, so they are operating in Russia.
In another situation, Russia said Ukraine sent 25 drones to attack Russia, but the attack was stopped. But, there are videos that seem to show many Russian oil facilities burning.
A military plane crashed near Moscow in the Ivanovo region. There were eight crew members and seven passengers on board. The plane went down shortly after it took off. This information came from Russia’s defence ministry, as reported by state-run news agencies.
The ministry said that the crash happened because the engine caught on fire. It did not say who survived.
Videos have come out showing a plane on fire flying in the sky, and then a lot of black smoke from where it crashed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin started a big war in Ukraine three years ago and it doesn’t seem like it will end anytime soon. It’s the biggest war in Europe since World War Two.
On Tuesday, the FRL shared a video that they said was from the border between Russia and Ukraine.
“We in the Legion want Russia to be free from Putin’s control, just like everyone else. ” But we don’t just imagine things, we work hard to make them happen. “We will slowly reclaim our land from the government,” a soldier with a gun said in the video.
At the same time, the SB reported that there is intense fighting happening on Russian land. They also showed a video of their fighters fighting against Russian government forces.
It also criticized the Russian presidential elections that are supposed to happen from 15th to 17th March, where Mr. Putin is predicted to win.
Voting and voting places are not real in this situation. The SB said that you can only improve your life if you have weapons in your hands.
Another group from Russia that is in Ukraine, called the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), shared videos of its members fighting against the Russian government troops.
“The soldiers in the Kremlin’s army stopped fighting before the battle even began,” it was said.
Tetkino, a small village in the Kursk region, was one of the places attacked on Tuesday. The FRL said they now have full control over the village.
The media has checked and confirmed that the FRL footage showing a strike on a military vehicle in Tetkino is real.
Kursk Mayor Igor Kutsak decided to have all schools in the area switch to online classes from March 13th to 15th because of something that happened recently.
He also said that the city still has a system to let people know if there is a missile coming. The city has more than 400,000 people.
Earlier today, a Russian politician from Ukraine named Illya Ponomarev said that a border village in the Belgorod region called Lozovaya Rudka is now controlled by forces that are trying to free it.
On Tuesday, the Russian defense ministry said its forces, border guards, and FSB security service stopped the Kyiv regime from trying to enter Russia.
The report said that enemy soldiers, with tanks and armored vehicles, tried to invade Russia at the same time in three different areas in Belgorod region.
It also said that there were four more attacks on Tetkino, but they were pushed back.
Russian groups from Ukraine have been attacking across the border into Ukraine since the invasion started.
In May of last year, the Russian military stopped a similar attack in the Belgorod region and defeated the armed rebels. -

South Korean man detained in Russia on suspicion of espionage
“A man from South Korea has been arrested in Russia on suspicion of being a spy, according to the news. ” South Korean officials have said that they arrested someone and are talking with other countries to bring them back.
Baek Won-soon was taken into custody in Vladivostok, a city in the far-east, earlier this year. He is currently in a jail in Moscow.
It is thought that he is the first person from South Korea to be arrested in Russia in a long time for spying.
We don’t know much about his situation. The foreign ministry of South Korea is still investigating and they can’t say much about it yet. Its officials were trying to give help to people from their country who were in trouble in a foreign country.
Russian state media Tass reported that an unnamed official said Mr Baek is accused of giving secret information to foreign intelligence services.
Someone in Russia’s far east, who doesn’t want to be identified, said they know Mr. They told the news that Mr. Baek has been helping North Korean workers in Russia and helping them get away.
Media in South Korea said that the government of Seoul was only told last month by Russian officials about the arrest.
Yonhap, a news source from South Korea, said Mr. Baek was taken into custody by Russia’s Federal Security Service in January when he got to Vladivostok from China.
The store reported that he is a religious worker and he was with his wife. She was also arrested, but then let go. The news source reported that people think she is in South Korea now.
Mr Baek was recently arrested by Russian authorities, which is part of a pattern of them arresting foreigners since the war in Ukraine started two years ago. Moscow is being accused of arresting people from other countries to use them for political reasons or to exchange them for prisoners.
Some of the people involved are an American man who works for the Wall Street Journal. He was arrested last March for spying. There is also a Russian-US journalist who was accused of spreading untrue information about the Russian military.
Tass said that Mr. Baek and Mr. Gershkovich are both in the Lefortovo Prison. The court decided to keep him in jail until June, according to the Russian news agency.
South Korea and its Western allies have criticized Russia for invading Ukraine and agreed to impose sanctions on Moscow. At the same time, Russia and North Korea have become closer friends. Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong un met last year and experts think they made deals to share military technology.Russian and North Korean officials had some meetings in Vladivostok last year.

Head of UN atomic watchdog travels to Russia for negotiations
The head of the UN nuclear safety agency has come to Russia to talk about keeping Ukraine‘s nuclear power plant safe during the fighting there.
The International Atomic Energy Agency is very worried about the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and is afraid of a possible nuclear disaster. The plant has been affected by fighting since Russia sent troops into Ukraine in February. On January 24, 2022, they took control of the building not long after.
The plant’s six reactors are not working, but it still needs electricity and skilled workers to run important cooling systems and safety features.
Rafael Mariano Grossi, the leader of IAEA, went to the Sochi resort by the Black Sea on Tuesday evening, as reported by Russian news agency RIA Novosti. Grossi told everyone about the trip on Monday, at the start of a meeting with the agency’s 35-country board of governors in Vienna.
The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will have a meeting with Grossi when he visits.
Grossi went to Ukraine in February, and went to the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to help stop a nuclear accident while there is fighting. He also met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The head of the IAEA last saw Putin in October 2022.
He said to the media in Vienna that it’s important to talk to both sides. He also said the situation with the Zaporizhzhia plant is still unstable.
Grossi said he planned to talk about “technical problems” concerning “how the plant will operate in the future” in Moscow. He also said that if the plant starts up again, he would need to talk about the safety checks that will be done. He also said he needs to talk about the problem of the power lines from outside because the IAEA thinks they are weak and delicate.
The plant lost power from outside sources eight times since it was taken over. This made it use emergency diesel generators, and it still has problems finding enough workers. -

Two people including 16 years old murdered in Russian artillery strikes in Ukraine
The government of Ukraine said that two people, including a young boy, were killed on Saturday in attacks by Russian artillery. Russia also said it had shot down a Ukrainian fighter jet and destroyed a group of drones in different areas.
Russia is winning in the fight, and Ukraine is running out of weapons. This is when the attacks happened.
Ukraine’s friends in the West are carefully considering sending soldiers. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski said on Friday that sending NATO soldiers to Ukraine is possible. French President Emmanuel Macron also said last month that this idea should be considered.
Serhiy Lysak, leader of Dnipropetrovsk region in Ukraine, said a 16-year-old boy was killed and a 22-year-old man was hurt in a morning attack with artillery in the town of Chervonohryhorivka. The town is across the river from the Russian Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is the biggest in Europe. The area is being attacked by Russians almost every day.
In Chasiv Yar, a person was killed by artillery fire, in the Donetsk region. This area is mostly controlled by Russia and has seen a lot of fighting during the three-year war.
The Russian military shot down 41 drones over the Rostov region, which is next to Ukraine and has a big army base. They also shot down two drones in the Kursk region and three in Volgograd. No one got hurt right away.
The government said that the air force destroyed a Ukrainian fighter jet over Pokrovsk, a city in the Donetsk region. This city is important to Russia and Ukraine lost control of another city called Avdiivka earlier in February. This is a big problem for Ukraine in their war against Russia.
The leader of a region in Russia called Belgorod said that drones from Ukraine attacked two villages near the border on Saturday, but no one got hurt. The governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, did not say how much damage the attacks caused.
Ukraine doesn’t want to talk about making peace with Russia, even though it has had some problems in its military. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy visited Turkey and Turkish President Erdogan said his country is ready to hold a meeting for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
However, Zelenskyy is determined not to talk directly with Russia about peace and has stated many times that the country being invaded should be the one to lead peace negotiations. -

Dr Congo denies signing military cooperation with Russia
The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo refutes claims of signing a military cooperation agreement with Russia.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Communication and Media clarified, “There is, to date, no recently signed military cooperation agreement between Russia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
This denial comes in response to an article published by the Russian state-owned news agency TASS on Tuesday, asserting that Russia’s government had approved a draft military cooperation agreement with DR Congo.
According to TASS, citing a government document, the agreement involved joint drills, military training, and the possibility of warships and warplanes visits upon invitation or request.
DR Congo acknowledges the existence of the draft agreement, initiated by the two countries in 1999 but emphasizes that it has not been finalized or signed.
“The Democratic Republic of Congo is not engaged in bilateral discussions with Russia for the implementation of this draft agreement at present,” the communications ministry added.
Russia has been actively expanding its military partnerships in Africa to increase its political influence on the continent. Notably, through the Wagner mercenary group, Russia has provided military support to various countries, including the Central African Republic and the junta-led governments of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

Russia blasts Odessa as Zelenskyy and Greece’s PM end tour of war-ravaged
A big explosion was heard in the Ukrainian city of Odesa while President Zelenskyy and Greece’s prime minister were visiting on Wednesday.
The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the groups of people were getting into their cars when they heard a loud explosion. He said that this was a strong reminder that Odesa is in a war with Russia. He says that it’s different to learn about war than to actually go through it yourself.
Zelenskyy said that the explosion hurt and killed many people, but the exact number is not known yet. “He told reporters that they don’t care where to hit. ”
Russian officials did not respond right away.
Zelenskyy often goes to cities and military units on the front line during the war, but nobody knows until he’s gone. Leaders from other countries have visited Ukraine many times. Sometimes, they have had to go to shelters to stay safe when air raid alarms go off.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, criticized the “terrible attack” during the visit to Greece on X. She said this on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. She said Russia is trying to scare people again.
Zelenskyy guided Mitsotakis around the damage in Odesa. In the latest big Russian attack, 12 people, including five kids, died when debris from a Russian drone hit an apartment building on March 2nd.
Mitsotakis said that Odesa is very important to Greece because it’s where the Filiki Etairia organization was started. This organization fought for Greece to be free from Ottoman rule in the 1800s. -

Attacks from Ukraine progressively weakening Russia’s Black Sea navy
Ukrainian sea robots reportedly destroyed another Russian warship in the Black Sea on Tuesday. This is the latest attack in a series that has weakened Moscow’s navy and made it harder for them to fight in the war, which has been going on for three years.
The Ukrainian military used drones and missiles to successfully attack the enemy. This has made the soldiers in Kyiv feel more confident, especially because they are outnumbered and outgunned by the Russian forces along the long frontline.
Confronting Russia’s naval power has also made it easier for Ukraine to export grain and other goods from its ports on the Black Sea.
Here are recent attacks by Ukraine on Russian naval ships and what happened as a result.
Non-stop hits
Ukrainian naval drones have attacked a patrol ship near the Kerch Strait. The Kerch Strait connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. This information comes from Ukraine’s military intelligence agency. The attack killed seven Russian crew members and injured six. 52 crew members were rescued. We cannot be sure if this information is true.
The Russian Defence Ministry did not say anything about the claim, but some Russian military bloggers said that the ship was lost and its crew was saved.
If it’s true, the strike would be the most recent time Ukraine’s own Magura drones, small boats that can move fast without any crew, have been used successfully. These drones have become a big problem for the Russian navy. Just last month, drones destroyed Russia’s Caesar Kunikov ship and Ivanovets missile boat. The Russian military has not admitted to the losses, but Russian military bloggers and some media have reported on them.
In late December, Ukraine used long-range cruise missiles to destroy a Russian landing vessel in Crimea’s port of Feodosia. The Russian military said the ship was hurt in the attack, but Russian war bloggers said it was destroyed.
The Ukrainian military has been continuously using cruise missiles and drones to attack Russian radar facilities, air defense systems, and air bases in Crimea, which is a part of Ukraine that Russia took over in 2014. Ukrainian soldiers shot down two Russian planes in the Sea of Azov in January and February. This made it harder for Russia to gather important information.
The attacks happened after Ukraine had already done well in the war. They sank one of Russia’s important ships and also attacked their headquarters.
Ukraine’s dangerous weapons
Ukraine is using remote-controlled drone boats with explosives to help them win naval battles against Russia, even though Russia has way more firepower. The Magura drones have really good GPS and cameras, and they are hard to detect because they don’t show up much on radar.
The new Magura V5 is 5. 5 meters long and weighs up to 1,000 kilograms. It can travel up to 800 kilometers and has a battery life of 60 hours. It can also carry up to 200 kilograms of weight. Ukrainian authorities provided this information. It also sends live video to the people who are in charge.
Ukraine also used cruise missiles given by the U. KFrance and Russia are fighting because France attacked Russian things in Crimea. The missiles were made by Britain and France together and the U. Kcalled them Storm Shadow. France and Ukraine’s old warplanes launch SCALP-EG missiles that can travel more than 250 kilometres.
Western leaders are impressed with how Ukraine has been able to use its limited resources to fight against stronger Russian forces. They have managed to destroy about 20% of the Black Sea fleet, which has weakened Russia’s naval power.
Stopping the Russian blockade.
The attacks on Russian ships helped Ukraine to increase its food and other exports from the Black Sea, even though Russia stopped guaranteeing safe shipment of Ukrainian grain last summer.
Moscow backing out of the deal could mean that Russian ships may attack ships carrying Ukrainian grain and other products. This could hurt the Ukrainian economy and make food shortages an issue for the world.
However, the constant Ukrainian attacks on Russian warships and other military equipment in the area have caused Russia’s fleet to become defensive, reducing its ability to attack.
What was Russia’s response.
Russian military bloggers and commentators are mad at the Defence Ministry for not doing enough to protect the navy from attacks by drones and missiles from Ukraine. The Defence Ministry hasn’t said much about it.
The strikes made the Russian navy do things to keep ships safe. They had to move some ships from ports in Crimea to Novorossiysk so they wouldn’t get hurt. This made it harder for the navy to do its work.
Even though the Black Sea fleet was damaged in attacks from Ukraine, it is still strong and can still launch long-distance missile attacks at Ukraine. Russian air bases in Crimea are still working and have planes that are flying missions to help their soldiers on the ground.
Russian military bloggers said that the leader of the Black Sea fleet, Adm. Viktor Sokolov was fired last month because the warships under his command kept getting lost. They did not officially confirm that he was removed from his position. -

Another Russian warship sunk in the Black Sea – Ukraine
A Russian warship in the Black Sea was reportedly sunk by high-tech sea drones used by Ukraine on Tuesday. This happened as Ukraine’s forces are targeting places far away from the front line of the war. Russian officials did not say if it is true.
The Ukrainian military used small boats with explosives to destroy a big ship called Sergey Kotov. The small boats were made in Ukraine and controlled by a special unit. They did this overnight. Ukraine said a patrol ship near the Kerch Strait was hit. It can carry cruise missiles and has about 60 crew members.
It is not clear if the Ukrainian claim is true, and there has been false information in the fighting that started after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
Kyiv’s soldiers are trying hard to keep the well-supplied Russian army from advancing at certain places on the 1,500-kilometer front line. They are also attacking targets far from the battlefield.
Ukraine has defeated Russian warships in the Black Sea, so now they can send grain out by ship.
The Ukraine defense ministry shared a video on X, which was previously known as Twitter, showing a nighttime attack on the Sergey Kotov.
The security company Ambrey reported that the attack happened at the port of Feodosia, in Crimea, which Russia took over in 2014. Ambrey said that they have seen a video taken by someone on a merchant ship in the port, which shows the Sergey Kotov shooting at the drones.
The ship got hit two times. The second hit caused a big explosion, according to Ambrey.
Ukraine said it used drones to sink two Russian warships last month. 1, it said it sank the Russian missile-armed ship Ivanovets, and on Feb. It was reported that the Caesar Kunikov landing ship was destroyed. Russian officials did not say that those statements are true.
Authorities in Kyiv said that around 20% of missile attacks from Russia on Ukraine come from the Black Sea. They also mentioned that it would be a source of embarrassment for Moscow if their ships in the Black Sea were hit.
Just about a year ago, a big ship from Russia’s Black Sea fleet called the Moskva sank because it was hit by missiles. -

Canada restricts indirect importation of Russian diamonds
Canada on Friday announced restrictions on indirect imports of Russian diamonds weighing 1 carat and above in a co-ordinated move with other Group of Seven (G7) countries.
The latest restriction adds to a ban on Russian diamonds announced in December and will provide Canadians “additional assurance that the diamonds that they purchase are not supporting Russia’s illegal war,” the Canadian foreign ministry said in a statement.
Canada has been one of the leaders in putting limits on the Putin government’s economy since he started a harsh and illegal attack on Ukraine. This caused a lot of harm to the Ukrainian people. We and our friends have put strict punishments on the Russian government, and we will keep doing this to make Putin and his supporters responsible,” said Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly.
Russia makes the most rough diamonds in the world, and they were worth around $4. 7 billion in 2022. It also sends a lot of diamonds and diamond products to other countries. It made more than $5. 2 billion from these exports last year.
The G7 countries make up 70% of the world’s diamond market when they work together.
In 2022, Canada punished Russia’s government-owned company Alrosa after Russia attacked Ukraine.
Canada removed Russia’s most-favored nation status, which means they put a 35% tax on all items that are imported from Russia.
This caused the value of Russian imports to drop a lot, from $327,224 in 2022 to $13,440 for the first eight months of 2023, including products that will be banned. -

Russia and Germany fight over recorded audio about missiles intended for Ukraine
The German government has strongly denied that Russia‘s release of a conversation between senior German military officers was a sign that Germany was getting ready to go to war with Russia.
The government tried to handle the problems caused by the audio leaked at home, and promised to quickly investigate how top German military conversations were leaked.
“The German Chancellor’s spokesman Wolfgang Buechner, said it is very clear that the claims about Germany preparing for war against Russia are just false Russian propaganda. ”
Wolfgang Buechner, who speaks for the government, said that Russia is trying to start problems with Germany by spreading information.
The 38-minute recording has German military officers talking about how Kyiv could use Taurus missiles against Russian forces. German authorities have not doubted that the recording is real. But, Scholz said a week ago that giving these weapons to Ukraine is not a good idea. He doesn’t want Germany to get involved in the war.
Russia’s foreign ministry warned Germany on Monday that there would be serious consequences because of the leak, but they did not explain further.
“If the German people don’t do something about this, there will be bad consequences for Germany,” said Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry.
The relationship between the two countries has been getting worse since Russia attacked Ukraine two years ago.
On Friday, Margarita Simonyan, who is in charge of a Russian TV channel that gets money from the government, posted a recorded conversation online. This happened on the same day that Alexei Navalny, a politician who opposed the government, was buried after dying in a prison two weeks ago. It also appeared just a few weeks before the election for Russia’s president.
According to the dpa news agency, a leaked audio recording reveals that four officers, including Germany’s Air Force leader Ingo Gerhartz, were talking about using Taurus missiles in Ukraine before meeting with the country’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.
The officers said that if German soldiers helped, they could deliver Taurus missiles quickly. Training Ukrainian soldiers to do it themselves would take a long time.
The video also shows that the German government has not approved the delivery of the cruise missiles that Ukraine wants, according to dpa.
In Germany, people are arguing about whether Ukraine should get missiles because Kyiv is losing battles, and the United States hasn’t sent military help yet. Germany now gives the second most military help to Ukraine after the U. Sand is increasing its help even more this year. Scholz said last week that Germany will not give Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Ukraine had been asking for the missiles for months, but Germany was taking a long time to decide. Taurus missiles can reach up to 500 kilometers, and could potentially be used against targets deep inside Russia.
On Monday, the ambassador from Germany went to visit the foreign ministry in Moscow, Russia. Russia media said Ambassador Alexander Graf Lambsdorff was called in by the foreign ministry, but the German government said his visit was already planned before the audio was released.
Germany’s defense ministry tried to make the officers’ conversation in the leak seem less important, saying it was just a discussion of ideas before meeting with the defense minister.
The government is looking into how Russian agents were able to listen in on and share a private conversation among important German military leaders. It said it would tell about what it found. Some German news outlets said that the police officers were in an online meeting when they were recorded.
Buechner, who speaks for the chancellor, said that the German government will try to stop false information, especially from Russia.
The Kremlin said it is waiting for the German government’s investigation results.
Mr Smith was increasingly incensed by his colleague’s lack of professionalism. He found it extremely frustrating. Scholz promised that they would quickly and thoroughly investigate the situation. “We want to know what the investigation found,” said spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. -

Leaked audio is part of Russia’s “information war” against West – German Defence Minister
Germany’s defense minister has said that Russia leaked a conversation between German military officers as part of Russia’s “information war” against the West. The goal was to cause disagreement within Germany.
A leaked audio recording from Russian state media on Friday shows German military officers talking about helping Ukraine, possibly by using Taurus missiles.
The sound recording was made public on the same day that the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny was buried, after he died under mysterious circumstances two weeks ago in a prison in the Arctic.
The Defence Minister, Boris Pistorius, said that the timing was not just a random event.
“It’s a part of a war of information that Putin is fighting. ” “He said there is no doubt about it. ” “It’s an attack that mixes lies with truth to mislead people. ” It’s about splitting things up. “It’s about weakening our determination. ”
Speaking at a news conference in Berlin, Pistorius said that we should stay calm and think carefully, but still take strong action.
In a 38-minute video, army leaders talk about how Ukraine could use the Taurus long-range cruise missiles. The sound recording was shared because people in Germany are discussing whether to give the missiles or not.
Pistorius said that this is clearly about breaking our unity.
Ukraine needs help because it’s having problems in the war and the United States hasn’t given them military aid yet. Earlier this week, Scholz said he doesn’t want to send the Taurus missiles to Ukraine because he’s worried Germany might end up in the war. His indecision causes tension in his three-party group and also angers Germany’s conservative opposition.
However, in the supposed audio recording, German officers talk about the idea that the missiles could be used in Ukraine.
Pistorius said that in the recording, the officers clearly mentioned that they were involved in a war. The line would not be crossed. -

Melanie Joly in Kiev to start global campaign to persuade Russia to return Ukrainian children
Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, is visiting Ukraine for two days to focus on bringing back children who have been taken by Russia.
“We continue to strongly support Ukraine’s freedom and independence,” she said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.
Ukraine’s fans will keep going; we can’t lose hope or doubt, not even for a second.
Joly had a meeting with Dmytro Kuleba, who is from Ukraine. She is also planned to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Canadian government has not said if they will give more money to the $9. 7 billion they already promised for Ukraine’s military, development, and immigration programs.
Joly started a project with Ukraine to ask other countries for help in making Russia bring back many Ukrainian children it sent away from war areas, which breaks the rules of the world.
The International Criminal Court has a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. They say he made kids from eastern Ukraine go live in Russian families and made them forget they were from Ukraine.
The new Canadian project wants to make more people aware of the problem and work together on campaigns to support it.
Canada will use its connections with other countries to reach out and talk to them as if they were Canadian children. This will happen in many different countries, like Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, and Qatar.
Ottawa will help Ukraine by offering technical help to get children back from Russia. Less than 400 children have been returned so far.
During the trip, Joly also wants to meet with Ukrainians hurt by the war, including children, and groups that help people who have been hurt by violence and trauma from war.
Canada and its friends promise to continue helping Ukraine for as long as it takes. They will also help prevent Russian aggression even after the conflict ends.
Public support for Ukraine has decreased in countries like the U. Sduring ongoing high prices and fighting in the Middle East.
Canada has not made a formal agreement with Ukraine about security yet. They have been talking for months about how much support Canada will give to help keep Ukraine safe.
Kuleba said that Canada is one of Ukraine’s best friends and praised Ottawa for the support it provides. He also mentioned that Canada brings up important topics at G7 meetings.
He said talks about the security promise are going well, and are not complicated by polite words. “He said we can talk about things honestly and openly. ”
Next month, it will be ten years since Russia invaded Crimea, and it has been two years since they invaded Ukraine. -

Ukraine downs 10 Russian jets out of the sky in 10 days
Ukraine’s military has announced that it has shot down 10 Russian military jets in the past 10 days, a dramatic rise from the previous months.
The statement comes in spite of the shortages faced by Ukrainian forces due to delays in Western supplies.
Ukraine claims that it has destroyed a total of 342 Russian planes and 325 helicopters since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
These numbers cannot be confirmed independently. Russia remains silent.
“Another one! In addition to the one in the morning!” Ukraine’s General Staff posted on Facebook on the afternoon of 27 February.
“Oops, we did it again!” the Ukrainian defence ministry joked on X (formerly known as Twitter). “And now it’s 10 ruined Russian planes in 10 days!”
Ukrainian Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk says that the latest two Russian aircraft to be shot down are Su-34 bombers – both downed in the east of the country.
“Considering such losses of fighter and special aircraft, the Russians should think twice and stop their aviation meat grinders for a while,” he said.
Gen Oleshchuk was referring to a Russian military strategy that involves sending large numbers of troops into combat with no care for their lives.
Ukraine says that it has shot down some of the best aircraft that the Russian air force has to offer between 17 and 27 February.
They include a highly advanced and rare A-50 military spy plane. If true, this would be the second A-50 to be shot down in just over a month, a humiliating loss for Russia and a major victory for Ukraine.
The other Russian planes that Ukraine says it has shot down in that period are seven Su-34s and two S-35 fighter jets.
One weapon that Ukraine is likely to have used is the US-supplied Patriot surface-to-air missile.
The higher number of Russian planes that Ukraine says it has shot down recently suggests that “Ukraine is being more aggressive with risking Patriot launchers close to the frontlines in order to engage Russian jets,” Justin Bronk, a senior research fellow at the London-based think-tank Rusi, told the BBC.
The recent surge has several possible reasons, such as increased deployment of such aircraft by Russia and more effective air defence systems used by Ukraine.
But without precise information on resources deployed on the battlefield, it can be hard to fully explain the increase in Ukrainian claims.
Such an increase, however, is still noteworthy.

Bulgarian decorator shows up in court after being accused of spying for Russia
A Bulgarian person who paints walls and decorates rooms is in trouble for allegedly spying for Russia in the UK.
Tihomir Ivanchev, 38, from Acton, West London, didn’t say if he’s guilty or not in a short court hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
It is said that he was part of a group of Bulgarians in the UK who were spying for Russia.
Five more Bulgarians were accused last year and are now waiting to go to court.
When the police arrested the other five people, they didn’t know that Mr. Ivanchev may have been involved. They found out about his connection when they translated group messages.
He was taken by the police earlier this month and formally accused on Tuesday.
Another person is charged with spying for Russia in the UK. Mr Ivanchev used to date Vanya Gaberova, who is one of the people accused last year.
He was put in jail and will go to court at the Old Bailey on 15 March. The group is accused of watching and following people to help Russia do bad things to them, like kidnapping them.
Mr Ivanchev is also accused of being involved in spying in Austria and Montenegro in 2021 and 2022.
The remaining five people are going to trial in October at the Old Bailey. It is said that Mr. Roussev led the cell’s spying activities from the UK.
It is said that Mr. Roussev got orders from a person called Jan Marsalek, who all the defendants are accused of working with in a plan. Marsalek is not accused in the case.
Mr Marsalek used to be in charge of a company called Wirecard in Austria. Now, he is wanted in Germany because he is suspected of doing something dishonest. He is said to be in Russia now.

India unveils Air Force pilots for historic Gaganyaan space flight
India has revealed the identities of four Air Force pilots who have been selected for the country’s inaugural space flight, part of the upcoming Gaganyaan mission set for the following year. The mission’s objective is to transport three astronauts to an orbit 400 km above Earth and bring them back safely after a three-day journey.
India’s space agency, Isro, has been conducting various tests in preparation for the mission, including a successful crew escape test in October.Following this achievement, Isro announced plans for a test flight involving a robot in 2024, paving the way for human astronauts to embark on a space journey in 2025.
At a ceremony held at the Isro center in Thiruvananthapuram, the four selected astronaut-designates from the Indian Air Force were introduced: Group Captain Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla.
During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Isro chief S Somanath presented the astronauts with badges adorned with golden wings, symbolizing their accomplishment.
Prime Minister Modi commended them as “India’s pride” and emphasized their role in carrying the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians into space.
The selected officers underwent rigorous physical and psychological tests before being chosen and have completed 13 months of intensive training in Russia.
A video showcased their fitness routines, including gym workouts, swimming, and yoga.
Isro also unveiled Vyommitra, a female humanoid set to journey into space later in the year. The Gaganyaan Mission marks India’s first human space flight program, with substantial preparations underway across various Isro centers.
The project, named after the Sanskrit word for a craft or vehicle to the sky, comes with a cost of 90 billion rupees ($1 billion). If successful, India will join the elite group of nations—Soviet Union, the US, and China—that have sent humans into space.
Despite its delayed entry into human spaceflight compared to other nations, India has made significant strides in space exploration, achieving a historic landing near the Moon’s south pole in August 2023 and launching Aditya-L1, the country’s first observation mission to the Sun.
India has also announced ambitious plans for the future, including establishing a space station by 2035 and sending an astronaut to the Moon by 2040. -

France warned to be on lookout for Russian meddling
French public are being asked to contact authorities if they see any evidence of Russian tricks before the Paris Olympics this year.
A message from the French intelligence service DGSI has asked the police to not ignore any signs of possible activities by Russian agents, even if they seem not very strong. French intelligence service said Russian supporters could use important topics to make disagreements in French society worse.
Other European countries have also experienced similar fake news campaigns.
According to the note, Russian intelligence is using different methods to get other people to help them interfere with things.
Many of these ‘proxies’ are people from Russian-speaking communities in Eastern Europe. Some are just visiting France for a short time, while others have been living there for a long time, either legally or illegally.
In France last October, someone sprayed Stars of David on walls. This was similar to other ways people were causing trouble in French society. It happened right after gunmen from the group Hamas attacked Israel and killed over 1,200 people.
The note says that the Russian campaign is trying to make disagreements and problems within French society bigger by talking about different topics like pension reform and saying bad things about the Olympic Games.
The DGSI says that with the current world situation and as France gets ready to host the Olympic Games, the police need to be very alert and respond quickly if they see any Russian activity.
The French government thinks that people from Moldova who speak Russian were behind the Stars of David operation, and they believe the Russian state security agency was in charge of it.
According to Le Monde newspaper, quoting another report from DGSI, the graffiti was part of a campaign across Europe to create disagreements and make governments less strong. This campaign was started by the FSB’s Fifth Division, which handles international operations.
The memo says that other lies spread by people from Moldova have happened in Poland, Spain, Latvia, and Germany.
The French government is talking more about Russia and trying to make people in France and other European countries more aware of the danger.
President Macron talked about sending soldiers to Ukraine for the first time at a meeting in Paris on Monday. He did not say no to the idea. The next day, his German colleague Olaf Scholz and Nato General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg disagreed with this idea.
Officials from Elysée said that there is a growing threat of “Russian aggression” in the internet and spreading fake news using aggressive and simple tactics.
The officials mentioned a fake report that President Macron canceled a visit to Ukraine because of a planned assassination. The report was spread on pro-Russian social media, pretending to be from the international channel France 24.
The French government has a new campaign called “Russian Disinformation” and it wants the public to be aware and report any false information they see. They believe that reporting false information is important in fighting against it. -

Russian human rights activist Oleg Orlov receives a jail term
The Russian human rights activist Oleg Orlov has finally been fined and then sent to prison.
Oleg Orlov is one of many government critics in Russia who have been fined and then sent to prison. Last year, well-known sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky was convicted of publicly supporting terrorism for comments he made about the attack on the Crimean bridge in 2022. In this situation, the prosecutor asked for a longer sentence. Earlier this month, a judge decided to send Mr Kagarlitsky to jail for five years.
In October 2023, the court found the Oleg Orlov guilty. However, the punishment at that time had been much less severe.
Oleg Orlov was required to pay a 150,000 rouble fine but he avoided imprisonment. This is approximately £1,290 or $1,630.The lawyers said the penalty was not sufficient. The court said the decision was wrong, so there will be a new trial.
In Russia, the government was starting to become less okay with people speaking out against them.
Oleg Orlov didn’t pay much attention to the second court hearing because he was protesting being made to go back. Instead, he sat in court reading a book called The Trial by Franz Kafka. The book talks about how life can be unfair and ridiculous.
Last year, when I talked to him before his first trial, he said he didn’t do anything wrong.
“He told me that the article I’m being accused of is about trying to make the Russian armed forces look bad, and not supporting the interests of Russia and its people, and trying to disrupt peace and security. ”
To start, the Russian Constitution promises people can say what they want. I wrote a report about what I think about the events. Charging me for that breaks the rules of the constitution.
Also, what is happening in Ukraine – let’s be clear and call it a war – is not good for Russia and its people.
“Trying to keep peace in the world. That’s not working at all. ” It makes me think of what George Orwell wrote in “War is Peace” and “Freedom is Slavery. ” “He said the idea that the war in Ukraine is good for peace around the world is just not true. ”
This week, Oleg Orlov said that Russia is getting worse and worse.
He showed examples of bad things happening to people who speak out against the government, like when Alexei Navalny died in prison and when other government critics were punished by the courts. He described what was happening in his country as “the loss of freedom. ”
“We know why we’re being held, put on trial, arrested, punished and killed. ” We are getting in trouble for speaking out against the people in charge. “This is totally not allowed in Russia today,” he said.
He told the judge and prosecutor that they should realize that the system of punishment they are involved in could eventually harm them too, just like it has in the past.
Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine two years ago, the Russian government has created many strict laws to punish people who speak out against them or oppose the war in Ukraine.
Russia has made it a crime to say bad things about the army and to spread false information about the use of the Russian armed forces.
The “Law on Fakes” has been used to put Kremlin critics like Ilya Yashin in prison.
Last year, Vladimir Kara-Murza, who opposes the government and is against war, was found guilty of betraying his country and given a 25-year prison sentence.
The Russian opposition is having a tough time.
Alexei Navalny, who was a strong critic of the Russian government, has died. Other important people who spoke out against the government are in jail or have left the country.
At the moment, it looks like Vladimir Putin’s main opponents and possible challengers have been taken out of the political arena. -

Macron claims European security depends on Russia’s defeat in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron said it is important for Europe’s safety to stop Russia in Ukraine and Ukraine is asking for more weapons to do so.
During his speech in Paris, he announced that a coalition of European leaders had pledged to provide Ukraine with weaponry capable of reaching both short and long distances.
According to him, the decision to send troops to Ukraine is causing disagreement among people, and weighing all options is important.
Russian soldiers have recently gained more territory in Ukraine, which is struggling to find enough weapons.
Kyiv needs weapons and supplies from the US and other Western countries to keep fighting Russia, which has a much bigger army and lots of ammunition.
The House of Representatives has to agree on giving$95billion in aid, with $61billion of it going to Ukraine. But it’s going to be difficult for them to agree on it.
Over the weekend, Ukraine’s defense minister said that half of the aid from Western countries to Kyiv was late, which has caused the loss of lives and territory.
Russian President Vladimir Putin started a big attack on Ukraine three years ago. The war, which is the largest in Europe since World War Two,does not seem like it will end soon.
On Monday, European leaders, like Germany’s Chancellor and the UK’s Foreign Secretary, met to help Ukraine.
Representatives from the US and Canada were also there.
President Macron said that it is important for Europe to defeat Russia for safety and stability.
He called Russia the “main attacker” and said, “We are not fighting with the Russian people. ” We don’t want them to win.
Mr Macron said a group of countries will give Ukraine long-range missiles and bombs to make big attacks. He didn’t say when those weapons will arrive.
He didn’t say no to sending soldiers from Western countries to Ukraine, but he admitted there are disagreements among the allies.
“He said that today, there was no agreement to officially send troops to the ground in any way. ” “But everything should be included in the dynamic. ” We will work hard to make sure Russia doesn’t win this war.
“He said we shouldn’t rule out the possibility that security might require deployment of some elements. ” “I have clearly told you what France’s position is, which is strategic ambiguity and I still support it. “
The Prime Minister of Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, said that his country does not plan to send its troops to fight in Ukraine.
He was responding to comments made by the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, who said that some countries are willing to send their soldiers to Ukraine, some countries are not willing to send soldiers, and some countries are still thinking about it.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that working together to defend against Russian aggression makes our nations safer for many years. He said this during a meeting on Monday.
Russia said many times that if Western troops go to Ukraine, it will start a fight between Russia and Nato. -

31,000 soldiers have died since Russia’s invasion – Zelensky
Volodymyr Zelensky has said that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in Russia’s big attack.
The president of Ukraine refused to give the number of injured people because he didn’t want to help the Russian military with their plans.
Usually, Ukrainian officials do not tell the public about how many people have been injured or killed, and other people think the numbers are even higher.
The defence minister said that half of the Western aid for Ukraine is late, and it’s causing people to die and the country to lose land.
Mr Zelensky said on Sunday that he was giving a new number of people who have died because Russia’s numbers are too high.
31,000 soldiers from Ukraine have died in this war. Don’t believe what Putin and his friends are saying about the number, whether it’s 300,000 or 150,000. They are lying. However, we feel a big loss from each of these losses.
Mr Zelensky talked about the huge number of civilians who died in the war in areas of Ukraine controlled by Russia. He said that tens of thousands of people died, but we don’t really know the exact number.
“I don’t know how many of them died, were killed, were murdered, tortured, or deported. ”
Ukraine usually doesn’t say how many soldiers died in battle. Some people think a lot more soldiers died than what Ukraine reports.
In August, US officials said 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers died and up to 120,000 were hurt.
Mr Zelensky said that 180,000 Russian soldiers have died and tens of thousands have been hurt.
BBC Russian and Mediazona website worked together to find out the names of over 45,000 Russian soldiers who have passed away. But it thinks the total number is higher than that.
In February, the UK’s defense ministry said that about 350,000 Russian soldiers were either killed or hurt.
President Zelensky spoke after his defense minister, Rustam Umerov, criticized the Western countries for taking too long to give military help to Ukraine.
“Right now, promising to do something doesn’t mean it’s been done,” he said.
Ukraine is having trouble trying to make Russia leave its land.
Mr Umerov said that Ukraine is at a bigger disadvantage in the war because of the lack of supplies.
“We try our best, but if the supplies don’t come on time, it hurts us,” he said.
In November, Germany said that the European Union’s plan to deliver a million artillery shells by March might not happen.
In January, the EU said that only about half of the promised amount would reach Ukraine by the deadline, and the rest would not arrive until the end of 2024.
President Zelensky said that Ukraine’s big attack last year didn’t start earlier because they didn’t have enough weapons.
The counter-attack did not work well, adding to Kyiv’s problems after initially stopping Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
Mr Zelensky said on Sunday that the plans for the counter-attack were given to Russia before it happened.
Last week, it was said that Ukrainian soldiers moved out of the important town of Avdiivka in the east. This was a big victory for Moscow after many months.
Mr Zelensky said that the reason for the recent problems is partly because the Western countries are not providing enough weapons.
The Biden government said that the delay in Congress approving a $60 billion aid package for Ukraine played a part in the town’s downfall.
On Saturday, leaders from Western countries went to Kyiv to support Ukraine as it marked two years since Russia invaded.
In Italy and Canada, it was announced that they made deals with Ukraine to help keep the country safe until it can join Nato.
Canada’s agreement included over three billion Canadian dollars (equivalent to £1. 7bn) in financial and defense support.
Not just Ukraine, but also other countries are struggling to find the resources they need for their military activities. Western officials say Russia is having a hard time getting enough ammunition and weapons.
“A person from the West said that Russia doesn’t have enough ammunition to meet the needs of the conflict in Ukraine. ”
They also said that Moscow has been able to get more supplies by finding other places to get ammunition and weapons, but this is not a good long-term solution.Volodymyr Zelensky is saying that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in Russia’s big attack.

Alexei Navalny “died of natural causes” – Russian medical report
A report from Russia’s doctors on Alexei Navalny‘s death says he died from ‘natural causes’.
Navalny’s associates and relatives accused Vladimir Putin of being responsible for his death, while the Kremlin vehemently denied any involvement. The news came out after they said this. Kira Yarmysh, who works for Navalny, posted on X that Navalny’s mother received the findings.
Navalny often spoke out against Vladimir Putin and was someone that the Russian president was most afraid of.
His mother Lyudmila told her story of being questioned by Russian investigators for over 24 hours without having a lawyer with her.
She also said the people looking into it were getting ready for a hidden funeral for Navalny. They want it to be done quietly, with no chance to say goodbye.
“They want to take me to a cemetery and show me a new grave and say: your son is buried here. ” I don’t think this is a good idea.
Lyudmila said that the investigators took her to see Navalny’s body at the morgue and then threatened her.
She said: “I saw them get instructions from the Kremlin or the main office of the Investigative Committee. “Can you simplify this text please.
Navalny’s mother wants a public funeral so that people who cared about Alexei can say goodbye to him.
Lyudmila said: ‘I’m making this video because someone is threatening me. They looked into my eyes and said that if I don’t agree to a secret funeral, they will do something to my son’s body. ‘
A person told Lyudmila that time is not on her side. The dead body is rotting.
He made the leader really angry by speaking out against corruption. He called the leader and his party names and showed documents of their crimes.
However, his death has caused more confusion than clarity– his body had bruises on it and people suspect that there were spies at the prison when he died.
And Putin had tried to hurt Navalny before –making him very sick and have to go to another country to get better.
Navalny’s family has promised to keep fighting, even though they are grieving less than a week after his death.

Ukraine claims to have shot down second Russian A-50 spy jet
Ukraine says it shot down a Russian military spy plane called A-50. This is the second time they have made this claim in just over a month.
The plane got hit between two Russian cities, over 200km away from where the fighting is happening, according to military sources from Ukraine.
Emergency responders found pieces of a plane near Kanevskoy district and successfully extinguished a large fire.
Russia hasn’t said anything about the statement. This Saturday is the two-year anniversary of Russia starting a big invasion.
Mykola Oleshchuk, the leader of Ukraine’s Air Force, thanked his team and military intelligence for shooting down a plane on Friday. He also mentioned that the incident happened on an important Russian military holiday.
“Happy Defender of the Fatherland Day to all the soldiers,” he said on Telegram.
A video on the internet shows a plane getting shot down in the sky. There were big flames and a lot of dark smoke after the plane crashed.
Krasnodar’s emergency officials said a plane crashed near Trudovaya Armenia village, Kanevskoy district, and a fire was put out later. It didn’t give any more information.
At least one Russian military-related Telegram channel hinted that the plane may have been shot down by accident. Fighterbomber said: “We don’t know who shot it down right now. ”
Ukraine said they shot down an A-50 plane on January 14th.
The UK’s ministry of defence said Russia likely has six working A-50s in use.
The plane finds air defenses and helps Russian jets attack targets. It can cost a lot to make—hundreds of millions of dollars.
Ukraine has been having a hard time making progress against Russian soldiers in the southeast.
Last month, the Ukrainian army said that a plane called Il-22 control centre and another plane called A-50 were destroyed in an incident. -

US imposes more than 500 additional sanctions on Russia
The US has added over 500 new punishments against Russia for going into Ukraine and for the death of Alexei Navalny.
President Joe Biden said that the sanctions are aimed at people involved in Navalny’s imprisonment and Russia’s military operations.
Almost 100 companies or people will not be allowed to send goods to other countries.
The EU made rules to punish Russia, so Russia stopped EU officials from coming into the country.
It’s not known how the sanctions will affect Russia’s economy.
President Biden said that the sanctions will make sure that Putin pays a higher price for his actions outside of Russia and for how he treats people in his own country.
The penalties come a week after Navalny died in a jail in the Arctic Circle. Mr Biden said he is sure that the Russian president is responsible.
The penalties are happening right before the second anniversary of Russia’s complete invasion of Ukraine.
“Two years ago, he attempted to completely destroy Ukraine. ” Mr Biden said that if Putin is not held accountable for his actions, he will continue causing harm.
On Friday, the EU said it will punish almost 200 companies and individuals for helping Russia get weapons or for being involved in kidnapping Ukrainian children. Russia denies these accusations.
10 Russian companies and people were involved in helping North Korea ship weapons to Russia. This included North Korea’s defense minister.
The EU has put the names of over 2,000 people on a list since the war began.
Russia’s foreign ministry said they have added more EU officials and politicians to a list of people who are not allowed to come into Russia.
“The European Union keeps trying to pressure Russia with restrictions, but it’s not working,” a statement said. -

Guinea’s junta angry with Russia after govt is dissolved
Guinea‘s military junta expressed its discontent to Russia’s ambassador following the Russian embassy’s caution about potential unrest in Conakry after the dissolution of the government by junta leader Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.
The junta leader dissolved the government on Monday, ordering the closure of all borders without providing an explanation for the move. In response, Ambassador Alexey Popov apologized to the junta, citing a misunderstanding.
Col Doumbouya, who assumed power in a 2021 coup, not only dissolved the government but also directed the confiscation of passports from dismissed ministers and froze their bank accounts.
Reports from Guinean media revealed that the Russian embassy advised Russian nationals to be vigilant due to the potential for unrest in Conakry following Col Doumbouya’s decision.
In reaction, an official from the junta’s foreign ministry summoned Ambassador Popov to a meeting to address the matter. Mr Popov clarified that it was a misunderstanding, attributing it to a false translation published only in Russian for Russian citizens.
The junta accepted the apology, and Mr Popov asserted that the incident would not impact the relations between the two nations.
Guinea, like several other former French colonies in West Africa, has experienced coups in recent years. The juntas in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso have turned towards Russia while displaying hostility towards France and the West African regional bloc, Ecowas.
Despite this trend, Col Doumbouya has aimed to maintain positive relations with all sides. He has committed to holding elections to reinstate democratic rule by the end of 2024.
The junta, however, imposed a ban on all demonstrations in 2022 and detained numerous opposition leaders and members of civil society groups.
Col Doumbouya came to power by overthrowing President Alpha Condé in September 2021, citing reasons such as rampant corruption, human rights violations, and economic mismanagement. President Condé, Guinea’s first democratically elected president, faced protests in 2019 when he changed the constitution to run for a third term after being re-elected in 2015.
