Trump rejects lawyers attempt to resolve case involving sensitive materials before indictment

Former President Donald Trump is said to have disregarded legal counsel to try to resolve the matter involving the confidential materials before a federal indictment that might result in jail time.

Christopher Kise, one of Trump’s attorneys, suggested contacting the Justice Department to negotiate a deal involving the return of the records in order to keep Trump out of jail. However, three sources told The Washington Post late Wednesday that Trump opted against trying to settle after hearing other attorneys advise litigation.

Accordingly, Kise in fall 2022 never reached out to prosecutors for a possible settlement. In mid-November, the Justice Department appointed special counsel Jack Smith to oversee the probe into Trump’s handling of classified documents he took from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago home.

Fast-forward to June 9, the Justice Department unsealed a 37-count indictment against Trump. The former president pleaded not guilty to all counts in a federal court in Miami on Tuesday.

Trump in a speech at his Bedminster golf club assured his supporters that nothing will stop his 2024 presidential bid – but he could face decades behind bars due to the federal charges.

Kise did not comment on the report.

Now Trump’s lawyers are forging forward with defending the ex-president.

‘President Trump has consistently been in full compliance with the Presidential Records Act, which is the only law that applies to Presidents and their records,’ Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told The Post.

‘In the course of negotiations over the return of the documents, President Trump told the lead DOJ official, “anything you need from us, just let us know.”

‘Sadly, the weaponized DOJ rejected this offer of cooperation and conducted an unnecessary and unconstitutional raid on the President’s home in order to inflict maximum political damage on the leading presidential candidate.’

Trump has been relatively quiet since the historic day on Tuesday. On Wednesday, his 77th birthday, he made just a couple of posts on Truth Social about in indictment raising him millions of dollars and giving him ‘greater’ poll numbers. Early Thursday, he shared the full video of his remarks and thanked his supporters again.

Trump questioned at the office of the New York attorney general

Former President Donald Trump has been back to New York City to answer questions regarding the $250 million civil case filed by the state attorney general accusing him and his business of fraud.

On Thursday, just before 10 a.m., Trump arrived to Letitia James’ office, the New York Attorney General. The New York Times claimed that as Trump’s vehicle entered a parking basement at 28 Liberty Street, located beneath the office building, a throng screamed “New York hates you.”

In James’ civil action, in which Trump, his three eldest children, and the Trump Organization are charged with inflating asset valuations by billions in order to qualify for more benevolent loans and tax incentives, the former president is taking the stand for his second deposition.

Shortly after 8am, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: ‘I will be heading downtown to meet with a Racist who leaked that I would be there at 9:30 A.M.

‘The leak makes it much more difficult for the Police and Secret Service to do their job. This civil case is ridiculous, just like all of the other Election Interference cases being brought against me.

‘If I had a fair judge, this case would have never happened. MAGA!’

Police swarm Trump Tower in Chicago as “lady with a rifle” enters the structure

During an hour-long confrontation with SWAT personnel, a woman carrying a gun and breaking into the Trump Tower in Chicago was taken into custody.

According to two police sources who spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday at 11:35 a.m., the lady was carrying a gun when she entered the Trump International Hotel and Tower.

Police were called to a tower flat on the 27th level where a lady reportedly went after complaining that “she was tired of being abused by her husband,” according to the newspaper.

The woman was taken into custody and transported to a hospital to be evaluated, police said. No one was injured and there was no threat to the public.

Earlier reports indicated that it was a domestic-related incident and not tied to terrorism.

The incident came a day after former President Donald Trump was charged with 34 felony counts for his alleged role in a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels to silence her on her claims of an affair.

Cops confirmed to NBC Chicago that they received a call of service to the skyscraper at 401 N Wabash Avenue in the downtown, but did not provide further information.

Law enforcement, including SWAT officers, were concentrated at the entrance of Trump Tower by Kinzie Street and Wabash Avenue.

Traffic was closed in both directions on Wabash Avenue between Hubbard Street and Wacker Drive, according to Total Traffic.

There was no indication that the incident at Trump Tower in Chicago was related to Trump’s historic arraignment on Tuesday that drew a sizable crowd of his supporters and opponents outside Manhattan Criminal Court. Trump is the first former US president to face criminal charges and pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Trump on Wednesday commended the non-violent actions of his supporters and law enforcement and court officials.

‘The GREAT PATRIOTS inside and outside of the Courthouse on Tuesday were unbelievably nice, in fact, they couldn’t have been nicer,’ stated Trump. ‘Court attendants, Police Officers, and others were all very professional, and represented New York City sooo well. Thank you to all!’

  • Donald Trump may be escorted by Secret Service personnel constantly if he is jailed

Donald Trump may be escorted by Secret Service personnel constantly if he is jailed

If convicted of making a hush payment to a porn star, former President Donald Trump will probably spend the entire day and night with his security detail.

Trump is the first sitting or former president of the US to be charged with a crime, thus it is unclear exactly what would happen if he were to get a prison sentence.

Trump would likely have Secret Service agents stationed outside his cell next to him around-the-clock, though, since previous presidents have lifetime security from the agency.

‘He would have one or two Secret Service details sitting outside his cell with the correctional officers,’ University of New Haven associate professor Mike Lawlor told the Daily Mail on Friday.

‘It is what the Secret Service does anyway, just in a different setting.’

An unnamed former Secret Service official had a similar assessment.

‘Is an agent going to be with him inside a cell? No,’ the former Secret Service official told Insider in November, but added that there would be at least one agent on the premises to protect Trump even if the individual was not ‘walking on his shoulder out in the yard’.

It is particularly likely that Secret Service agents would follow Trump given he would ‘have a target on his back’, Michele Deitch, a prison oversight expert at the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs, told Insider at the time.

The Former Presidents Act signed in 1958 grants all living ex-presidents entitlement to lifetime Secret Service protection unless they decline it. Richard Nixon is the only ex-president in US history to relinquish his protection, in 1985.

Congress in 1994 had acted to limit protection for future ex-presidents to just ten years after leaving office, as a cost-saving measure. But President Barack Obama in 2013 signed a law restoring lifetime protection for former presidents.

By contrast in the UK, former prime ministers are also afforded lifetime police protection, but it is not anywhere near the level of Secret Service agents.

On Monday afternoon, an 11-SUV motorcade brought Trump from his Mar-a-Lago home to Palm Beach International Airport, where he got on his private jet and flew to LaGuardia Airport. His motorcade was then escorted to Trump Tower, where he is spending the night.

Trump is expected in a lower Manhattan court for his arraignment around 2.15pm on Tuesday.

Late Monday, Trump complained that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg had ‘just illegally LEAKED the various points, and complete information, on the pathetic indictment against me’.

Trump appeared to be referring to Yahoo! News report that he was charged with 34 felony counts business records falsification around a $130,000 payment to silence porn star Stormy Daniels on an alleged affair.

It is expected that Trump will be fingerprinted, but unclear if a mugshot will be taken or if he will have a perp walk. He is unlikely to be handcuffed.

Protesters for Donald Trump fight with supporters outside a courthouse

The morning before former President Donald Trump was officially charged, protesters gathered in a small park near Manhattan’s Civic Center.

The protesters assembled a gathering at Collect Pond Park, a tiny public space nearby Manhattan Criminal Court, where Donald Trump is expected to be tried on criminal charges for hush money payments at 2.15 p.m. today. The protest was organized by the New York City Young Republicans Club.

Only hours before the ex-hearing, president’s the conservative group also asked Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to speak in favor of the indicted former president.

Around 8am, the park was largely empty, save for a handful of early protesters.

Gregory Williams, from the Bronx, sat on a lawn chair he set up on the sidewalk, waiting for the days events to begin. He told Metro.co.uk that he was there early to celebrate.

Williams brought along a large cardboard cut-out poster of Hillary Clinton, as well as a homemade sign that read ‘Lock Him Up.’

‘I think it’s ironic that for eight years, they always said “lock her up.” Now, I get to say “lock him up.”‘

Perez, a Trump supporter from Bushwick, Brooklyn, told Metro.co.uk that he hoped the former president would be found innocent on all charges and called the arraignment ‘political BS.’

‘It never happened before, in United States history, that a former president got indicted,’ he said.

Perez also said he was hopeful that the court proceedings would help Trump win the Republican primary and eventually the presidential election in 2024.

Nearby, another man wearing a red MAGA hat ripped off his shirt to reveal he was wearing a full set of stars-and-stripes overalls. ‘This is an unjust prosecution!’ he yelled as news cameras flocked to his location. ‘We should throw [District Attorney] Alvin Bragg in Guantanamo Bay!’

The event also attracted large numbers of counter-protesters, many of whom were wearing black-and-white shirts with messages like ‘Witches know this isn’t a witch hunt’ and Trump is the definition of depravity.’

Two women, who identified themselves just as Olivia and Beth, came from Indianapolis to witness the historic event. ‘It is really important to show that nobody is above the law,’ the women said.

One man on the counter-protester side, who said his name was David, spoke in English and Spanish about Trump’s mishandling of the Hurricane Maria disaster.

‘Nobody should have to go through what the people of Puerto Rico went through, and continue to go through to this day,’ he said. He also brought a roll of paper towels, a reference to the viral moment in 2017 when Trump tossed goods to survivors in a crowd.

NYPD officers split the park into two halves for each side, but protesters from both sides still managed to confront one another.

Around 9am, two women unfurled a large banner reading ‘TRUMP LIES ALL THE TIME’ on the pro-Trump side. Moments later, a blonde woman wearing a red MAGA hat leaped onto the banner and began tearing it up.

‘I don’t care b***h I’m from New York!’ she yelled in the counter-protesters’ faces.

Around 9.30am, right-wing New York congressman George Santos made a brief surprise appearance at the protest.

The recently-elected Republican has been the target of criticism since it was revealed he embellished or lied about large portions of his resume, including his career and identity.

Rep Santos was quickly harried by the press, and left moments later.

Eventually, Rep Greene arrived around 10.30am for her scheduled talk. She was given a megaphone by protest organizers, but her words were completely inaudible as counter-protesters in the crowd drowned chanted and banged on pots and pans.

‘We’re the party that wants to protect the lives of the unborn, we’re the party of male and female, two genders only,’ she told the few supporters who could hear her.

Meanwhile, counter-protesters chanted ‘go back home’ to the congresswoman from Milledgeville, Georgia. Others yelled ‘talk about gun reform!’

Donald Trump “will present himself in court on Tuesday and may be subject to a perp walk”

Former President Donald Trump intends to present himself for arraignment in the hush money case on Tuesday and might be allowed to go free.

Tuesday is when the accusations against Trump are scheduled to be made public, and it seems likely that he will be arraigned then.

Trump’s attorney stated that his client will not accept a plea bargain and is instead ready to go to trial.

The ex-president’s lawyer Joe Tacopina on Friday said that ‘Trump is not going to hole up in Mar-a-Lago’. He did not rule out a perp walk or mugshot.

‘As far as mugshots, (perk) walk – I’m sure they’ll try to get every ounce of publicity he can from this thing,’ Tacopina told ABC News’ Good Morning America.

He added that ‘the president will not be put in handcuffs’.

A Manhattan grand jury on Thursday voted to indict Trump for his role in a $130,000 payment his former lawyer Michael Cohen made to silence porn star Stormy Daniels on her alleged affair with Trump.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office on Thursday night stated that they had contacted Trump’s lawyer ‘to coordinate his surrender’.

Trump on Friday morning slammed the judge assigned to his case, Justice Juan Merchan.

‘The Judge “assigned” to my Witch Hunt Case, a “Case” that has NEVER BEEN CHARGED BEFORE, HATES Me,’ wrote Trump on his Truth Social platform.

Trump claimed without evidence that Merchan was ‘hand picked by Bragg & the Prosecutors’. Merchan also presided over the trial of longtime Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg, and Trump claimed that Merchan ‘railroaded’ him into taking a plea.

  • I will be arrested on Tuesday – Donald Trump

I will be arrested on Tuesday – Donald Trump

Donald Trump, a former US president, asserts that he will be detained on Tuesday.

On social media, he made no mention of how he was made aware of the impending arrest.

According to “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan district attorney’s office, “THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK,” will be detained on that day next week, he claimed in a post on his Truth Social network.

Mr Trump also urged his followers to protest.

The post comes as a New York prosecutor eyes charges in a case examining hush money paid to women who alleged sexual encounters with him.

Law enforcement officials in New York have been making security preparations for the possibility that the former President could be indicted.

There has been no public announcement of any time frame for the grand jury’s secret work in the case, including any potential vote on whether to indict the ex-president.

In his postings, he repeated his lies that the 2020 presidential election he lost to Democrat Joe Biden was stolen and he urged his followers to ‘PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!’

He did not provide any details on social media about how he knew about the expected arrest.

That language evoked the message from the then-president that preceded the riot at the US Capitol on January 6 2021.

The grand jury in Manhattan has been hearing from witnesses, including former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who says he orchestrated payments in 2016 to two women to silence them about sexual encounters they said they had with Mr Trump a decade earlier.

The former president denies the encounters occurred, says he did nothing wrong and has cast the investigation as a ‘witch hunt’ by a Democratic prosecutor bent on sabotaging the Republican’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg’s office has apparently been examining whether any state laws were broken in connection with the payments or the way Mr Trump’s company compensated Mr Cohen for his work to keep the women’s allegations quiet.

Yesterday, Trump went live with his first Facebook post since 2021.

‘I’M BACK!’ he wrote in the post on Friday afternoon.

It was accompanied by a 12-second 2024 Trump campaign video.

‘Sorry to keep you waiting, complicated business, complicated business,’ Trump said in the clip when he addressed a New York City watch party after defeating Hillary Clinton and winning the 2016 presidential election.

His post came more than a month after Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, restored his accounts.

Trump has 34million followers on his Facebook page. Friday’s post is a clear indication that Trump intends to use Facebook as a mechanism in his 2024 presidential campaign, which he announced in November.

The 45th president had been sticking to posting on his own Truth Social platform, despite having his Meta accounts restored and his Twitter account reinstated in November following Elon Musk’s takeover.

Donald Trump sends his own brand of bottled water to Ohio

In the Ohio community ravaged by a toxic railway catastrophe, former president Donald Trump delivered cases of his own brand of bottled Trump Water.

On his arrival in East Palestine on Wednesday, Trump declared that he was “bringing water, Trump water, indeed, most of it” to families in the affected area.
Trump stood next to a pallet of his waters, each labelled in light blue and with the words “Trump spring water.”

Trump continued, “Part of it, we had to move to a much worse quality water.”

The percentage of Trump’s donated bottles that were his own brand was not immediately known.

Trump arrived in East Palestine hours before President Joe Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was set to visit the town. A freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed there on February 3 and burned for two days, and officials conducted a controlled burn to release hydrogen chloride and phosgene.

The former president also brought 13 pallets of food to families. Trump then went to a local McDonald’s and ordered Big Macs for first responders.

‘I know this menu better than you do. I probably know it better than anybody in here,’ Trump, a known McDonald’s fan, told a server at the fast food restaurant. Trump asked the workers to ‘knock it out fast’ so he could eat on his plane.

Trump boarded his Trump Force One plane as Biden flew back from a three-day trip to Eastern Europe that included a visit to Ukraine ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Biden has faced criticism from some Americans for flying to Ukraine instead of visiting East Palestine.

Hundreds of people in the Ohio town chanted ‘no more Joe’ and waved MAGA flags as Trump landed.

Speaking from a fire department station, Trump told residents that they were ‘not forgotten’ and praised their ‘strength and courage’.

When asked what he would say to Biden, Trump said: ‘Get over here.’

  • Trump returns to DC for first time since leaving office to make speech at policy summit

Former President Donald Trump will return to Washington on Tuesday for the first time since he left office, delivering a speech at the America First Policy Institute’s two-day summit.

Trump’s return to Washington comes amid the congressional investigation of the January 6, 2021, insurrection triggered by his denial of the 2020 election results, and as the former President teases a third run for the White House in 2024.

Trump is set to speak Tuesday afternoon at the Marriott Marquis, where he’ll deliver the keynote speech at a summit hosted by a non-profit that could effectively turn into the engine of another Trump presidential campaign and policy platform.

“He’s still the leader of the America First movement,” Marc Lotter, the chief communications officer of the America First Policy Institute, said on CNN over the weekend.

“He is the biggest name. He’s the visionary behind many of the policies that got him elected to the White House,” Lotter said. “And when you look at what’s going on in America right now, so many people are clamoring for that kind of policy leadership back. They want cheap gas, growing paychecks, soaring stock markets and not what we have right now.”

Trump’s speech is expected to focus on “law and order,” according to Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich.

“President Trump sees a nation in decline that is driven, in part, by rising crime and communities becoming less safe under Democrat policies,” Budowich said. “His remarks will highlight the policy failures of Democrats, while laying out an America First vision for public safety that will surely be a defining issue during the midterms and beyond.”

Trump allies tell CNN they hope the former President will use the speech to look forward and focus on setting a Republican agenda ahead of the midterms. As Trump has publicly teased a 2024 bid, aides and advisers have encouraged him to move on from the 2020 election and shift focus to policy that they believe could put him back in office, like the economy, school curriculum and crime.

So far, Trump has yet to change course, instead using speeches to claim that the 2020 election was rigged, criticizing Republicans that he views as disloyal and attacking the Select Committee investigating January 6. One source close to Trump expressed frustration that the former President seemed unable to stop obsessing over the past, concerned it would hurt his chances in a 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump’s DC trip also underscores his dramatic split with former Vice President Mike Pence, who Trump has publicly blamed for refusing to attempt to overturn voters’ will by rejecting key states’ electoral votes.

Pence has pushed back, saying earlier this year that “Trump is wrong” in claiming that he could overturn the results. He has in recent speeches urged Republicans to drop their grievances over 2020 and offer a forward-looking platform. Pence had been scheduled to speak Monday at the Heritage Foundation in DC, but that speech was postponed after his flight was diverted due to weather.

Trump has used his recent speeches to continue airing those grievances over 2020. His appearances on the campaign trail ahead of November’s midterm elections have focused on endorsements of candidates who have embraced his election denialism and campaigned on efforts to undo the 2020 results and make voting more difficult for future elections.

His Tuesday speech at the America First Policy Institute’s summit will follow appearances by a host of Trump’s Republican allies, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, as well as some of Trump’s former White House and campaign aides, including Kellyanne Conway.

“To give voice to that agenda, to lay it out for the congressional midterms and beyond, I think there is nobody better than the former President to be able to do that,” Lotter said on CNN Sunday.

“What is going to happen next is entirely up to the voters and the President and any other people who might be getting into the race,” he said. “But the one thing that we know is the policies worked. And so, what we are focused on is setting that stage, laying out that policy framework, to get back to those winning policies. And President Trump is still one of the leaders, if not the biggest name, in that movement.”

Still, not all former Trump aides are enthused that he is speaking at the summit, further highlighting the discord within the Trump movement ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

“Don’t go, boss,” Peter Navarro, who worked as an assistant under Trump, wrote in an op-ed that published Tuesday, referring to AFPI as a “Trojan horse” that is trying to “hijack the political attractiveness of Trumpism but replace Trump with an AFPI-anointed RINO.”
