  • Vivian Okyere is not my girlfriend – Yaw Dabo

Kumawood actor Yaw Dabo has finally come explained the true nature of his relationship with actress Vivian Okyere.

According to Dabo, though he has a great relationship with Vivian, there is nothing intimate between them.

Dabo and Vivian have often been described as a couple following rumours that the two were dating.

But speaking on the Delay Show, Dabo revealed that he has a very good relationship with Vivian but she is not his girlfriend.

He explained that they got very close after they shot a movie titled “Me Gye Wo Girl” where the two of them were the lead characters. ‘If I want Vivian, I’m confident enough to propose to her but we are just friends,’ he added.

Dabo’s statement should put to rest the longstanding rumours of a relationship between him and Vivian.

Often referred to as Kumawood ‘tundra’ in an obvious recognition of her near perfect shape and huge backside, Vivian came into the limelight with her role as ‘Nana Ama’ in the movie, ‘M?gye wo girl.’

Playing a lead role alongside Yaw Dabo, Vivian was a sachet water seller who fell in love with Dabo, a mechanic’s apprentice and teamed up with him to dupe his master who was also interested in having her as a girlfriend.

Not long after this movie, reports surfaced that Vivian and Dabo were seeing each other and were going to get married.

Vivian, in reaction to the reports, reportedly indicated that she was in love with the diminutive actor and he loved her back as well.

She made a u-turn sometime later saying she had a boyfriend and that Dabo was just a confidante.

Though Dabo had not really confirmed or denied the relationship, recent videos of the two which surfaced on social media seemed to have confirmed it.

In one of the videos, Dabo was seen in the company of Vivian making promises of taking her on a vacation abroad.

  • New BoG Directive to prevent bank collapse Nana Otuo

Banking Consultant, Nana Otuo Acheampong is hopeful that the new directives on Financial Holding Companies should avert possible collapse of banks in the near future.

The Bank of Ghana in its latest directive for the financial sector, has outlined the operation of Finance Holding Companies which insists on restricted areas they cannot venture.

The Directive for Financial Holding Companies joins the list of rules and directives issued by the Bank of Ghana to sanitise the industry.

The document is in its draft stage and regulators are seeking input from stakeholders which will also determine the implementation date.

According to Nana Otuo Acheampong, the directive is necessary following the recent developments including the collapse of two banks and the subject to life support of others.

“Corporate governance effects have been cited as some of the reasons contributing to some of the problems of the two collapsed banks and those the central bank has put on administration,” he said.

The directive which comes two years after the passage of the Banks and Specialised Deposit Taking Institutions Act 930, may qualify as rather too late.

This is because it is needed to operationalise the provisions outlined in the Banks and SDI Act.

But Nana Otuo Acheampong maintains, the timing may just be right to sanitise the financial industry.

“If you do any cursory research into the laws of Ghana versus LI, you will not be surprised to find that more than 80 percent of the laws do not have LIs so having the Directives coming out within two years may even be considered early,” he noted.

While the Bank of Ghana is allowing Financial Holding Companies to restrict their work to raising funds to invest in-or provide support to its subsidiaries it is against the direct or indirect investments by a Financial Holding Company in non financial entities like commercial, agricultural or industrial activities.

  • Uber halts development of self-driving trucks

Uber has said it will stop developing self-driving trucks to focus its autonomous technology solely on cars.

Uber’s self-driving truck programme started in 2016 with a team based in San Francisco.

The ride-hailing firm marked the world’s first commercial shipment delivered by a self-driving truck later that year.

The truck drove 120 miles (193 km) along a highway in Colorado with a trailer full of Budweiser beer.

The idea behind self-driving trucks was initially to improve the safety and efficiency of the trucking industry, according to Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) website.

“We believe having our entire team’s energy and expertise focused on [self-driving cars] is the best path forward,” ATG head Eric Meyhofer said in a statement.

The company did not immediately respond to further questioning from the BBC.

Uber Freight, which matches mostly owner-operator truck drivers with shippers, will be unaffected by the move.

Uber’s self-driving car development has not been without problems.

In March, the firm said it was suspending self-driving car tests in all North American cities after a fatal accident.

A 49-year-old woman was hit by a car and killed as she crossed the street in Tempe, Arizona.

The fatal accident came a year after Uber pulled self-driving cars from the roads after another accident which left one of the vehicles on its side.

A handful of Uber’s self-driving vehicles have just been put back on the roads in Pittsburgh following the March suspension.

Self-driving cars have been hailed as the future of the ride-hailing industry as well as a way to reduce traffic accidents.

Other companies including Ford, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler and car supplier Bosch are investing in the development of self-driving vehicles.

However, there have been warnings that the technology is being deployed before it is ready.

Majority of Ghanaians are more concerned about the perceived negative impact of homosexuality than issues of unemployment, galamsey and rape, a new study has revealed.

The study from the Africa Centre for International Law and Accountability (ACILA) also revealed that about 60% of Ghanaians “strongly disagree” or “disagree” LGBTIs deserve equal treatment as heterosexuals.

  • North Korea ‘working on new missiles’, US officials say

North Korea appears to be building new ballistic missiles despite recent warming ties with the Trump administration, media reports say.

Unnamed US officials told the Washington Post that spy satellites had spotted continuing activity at a site that has produced ballistic missiles.

Reuters news agency quotes an official as saying it is unclear how far the work has gone.

President Donald Trump met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June.

After the first meeting between sitting leaders from the two countries, the two men pledged to work towards denuclearisation. Mr Trump later said North Korea was “no longer a nuclear threat”.

But Mr Trump was criticised at home for making concessions without securing any firm commitment from Mr Kim to end the nuclear and missile programmes.

What do the latest reports say?

On Monday, the Washington Post newspaper quoted officials as saying North Korea appeared to be building one or two new liquid-fuelled intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) at the Sanumdong facility near the capital, Pyongyang.

The factory is known to have produced the Hwasong-15, the first North Korean ICBM capable of reaching the US.

However, a US official told news agency Reuters that a liquid-fuelled ICBM didn’t “pose nearly the threat that a solid-fuelled one would because they take so long to fuel”.

Reuters also added that satellite imaging showed vehicles moving in and out of the facility, but not the extent of any missile construction.

What are experts saying about this?

These are not the first reports that North Korea may be continuing its weapons programme, casting doubt on the real impact of the summit in Singapore.

Satellite imagery of the Sanumdong facility shows that the site is “active”, Jeffrey Lewis, a nuclear expert at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) told the Washington Post.

“[The facility] is not dead, by any stretch of the imagination,” said Mr Lewis. “We see shipping containers and vehicles coming and going. This is a facility where they build ICBMs and space-launch vehicles.”

Another North Korean expert from MIIS, Melissa Hanham, told the BBC that the facility had “regular traffic in and out of the building”, adding that this “traffic pattern” on the site stayed “about the same through the Panmunjom and Singapore meetings”.

This indicated that there had not been a complete stop in activity during the summit talks.

She also noted that large “brightly coloured containers” also showed up in satellite imagery, saying that “containers similar to these have appeared during previous ICBM inspections by Mr Kim.”

Ms Hanham added that while that experts at MIIS could not “find a way to confirm the [intelligence] leak”, the information has matched evidence from satellite imagery.

What was agreed on in the Singapore summit?
North Korea has carried out a total of six nuclear tests, the most recent of which took place in September last year. It has in the past two years quickly advanced its nuclear programme.

But at their landmark meeting in Singapore, Mr Trump and Mr Kim agreed to work towards the “complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula”.

It’s been unclear what both sides mean by “complete denuclearisation”, and no further details have been released about when or how Pyongyang would renounce its nuclear weapons nor how the process would be verified.

Experts have also cast doubt on whether Pyongyang has been genuine in its apparent commitment to “denuclearise”.

Last week, it appeared North Korea had begun dismantling part of a key rocket launch site, but according to recent reports based on US intelligence leaks, Pyongyang might still secretly be continuing its nuclear weapons programme.

Reports had indicated that North Korea was upgrading its only official nuclear enrichment site, and was stepping up enrichment at other secret sites.

Last week, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was forced to admit that North Korea was continuing to produce nuclear fissile material, though he insisted that “progress is happening”.

  • Why Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez’s friendship is stronger than ever

“The reason why she has been one of my best friends is because this person has never ever judged a single decision I’ve made. She’s always met me where I’ve been. She’s encouraged me when I’ve had nothing to be encouraged about. And I don’t know if I would be as strong as I am if I didn’t have you and your family because you changed my life.”

When Selena Gomez repeated those words in front of 60,000 people back in May, it wasn’t just a huge surprise for concertgoers experiencing Taylor Swift’s reputation stadium tour.

Instead, it was a moment that instantly silenced the doubters and those left questioning where Selena and Taylor’s friendship stands.

No, they don’t post selfies together every week on Instagram. And no, they also aren’t photographed visiting Hollywood hot spots month after month.

But for almost 13 years, these two pop music superstars have had each other’s backs in a town filled with more than a few snakes.

“It’s been the longest [friendship] I think either of us had really. When your life changes and you become thrust into this really strange whirlwind where what your life is is different from what other people think your life is. And your life is commented on and your life is written about and its fictionalized and all that. Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hung in there through all the different changes we’ve gone through,” Taylor explained to E! News back in 2014. “Longevity is something you really can find very precious and rare in friendships.”

In fact, they’ve been able to stick together when the tabloids weren’t so kind. Back in 2014, rumors about the actual strength of the friendship surfaced when Selena was experiencing an on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. In fact, Taylor had to set the record straight in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“People think they have my relationships all mapped out. There were all these blogs, like, ‘Are they feuding? Are they fighting?’” the “Shake It Off” singer recalled to the publication. “Meanwhile Selena and I would be on the phone that night, laughing about it. We let them have that one.”

And when Taylor took a break from the Hollywood spotlight to work on her reputation album, some began to speculate that her “squad” and famous friends were put on the back burner. It just wasn’t the case.

“I obviously love her so much and want her to do what she does and she’s killing it. It’s everything you would want and more so [I’m] very proud and obviously a major fan,” Selena shared in 2017 with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe when teasing her friend’s top secret project. “It’s honestly so inspiring. It’s really cool to surround yourself with people and be involved with people who are inspiring and changing the way that they dictate what they love—whether that’s acting or music—and she’s one of those people who continues to do that.”

As individual artists, both Selena and Taylor have come a long way since walking their first red carpet together at the 2008 premiere of Another Cinderella Story. In fact, they likely accomplished more than they could have ever imagined.

In fact, they would delight fans with their dance moves from the audience at the American Music Awards. And yes, the pair would turn heads for all the right reasons when stepping out for the Met Gala together.

Despite their A-list status in Hollywood, perhaps it’s the simple things that bring these two the most joy.

“Taylor’s amazing. She’s so smart and sweet and humble—and she’s way more successful than I am!” Selena shard with Glamour in 2012. “When I see her after everything she’s been through and she just wants to go home and bake cookies with me, that to me is awesome.”

And while we don’t know how these two are celebrating International Day of Friendship today, rest assured this love story is only beginning.

“To the person I could call at any time of day, who has been there no matter what…you absolutely KILLED IT tonight,” Taylor wrote on Instagram after Selena performed at her reputation show. “I love you.”

Isn’t that what friendship’s all about?

  • Why the Friends cast has stayed tight for more than 20 years

As Lisa Kudrow scrolls through her birthday texts today, there’s one chain that’s likely to get extra attention: her group chat with Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.

Though it’s a collection of witticisms we—and probably some 52 million other loyal Friends viewers—would love to get in on, the 55-year-old says it can get overwhelming. “It’s a lot,” she admitted to Us Weekly. Cox’s verdict: “It’s too much pressure,” she says. “I’m not into the group text chain. I really don’t like it!” Even when she comes up with something clever to send off, she worries her dearest friends somehow won’t understand her humor. “You have something funny to say and you say it,” notes Cox, “but then you send the text and they don’t get it.”

Yes, more than 14 years after the actresses took their final bows on the venerable sitcom, they’re still going for laughs. And despite Cox’s protestations if their collection of nights out, joint talk show appearances and willingness to um, be there for each other on the most momentous of occasions are any indication (both Kudrow and Cox made the 75-person guest list for Aniston’s intimate vows to Justin Theroux), they have a plethora of inside jokes to lean on when they’re feeling uninspired.

At the very least, they could use the exchange to set up another in what has been a series of get togethers. While most costars go back to their individual lives after filming wraps, only to cross paths at the occasional award show or West Hollywood valet line, the women of Friends get together on the regular. And they’re continuously striving to have the rest of the sextet—Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer—join in. Noting their disparate lives and shooting schedules, Kudrow joked during a 2015 appearance at Vulture Festival that they’re “constantly” throwing out potential dates. “It’s crazy,” she says of the six-person coordination, “but it’s sweet that we’re trying, isn’t it?”

Any amount of scheduling and rescheduling is worth the effort. “We spent 10 years together, almost every day,” she reminisced in an interview with The Guardian that same year. “We all went through something significant together, and that’s a strong bond. As you get older, you realize, oh, you don’t have that with just about everybody.”

    Kevin Winter / Getty Images
Almost from the jump, the cast was an insular group. Shooting from freshman comedy to literal must-see-TV as the anchor of NBC’s weighty Thursday night lineup was a heady experience for a collection of young, more-or-less previously-unknown stars. And in a pre-Instagram world it was hard to predict the glare that would be directed on their personal lives.

“It’s scary, it’s jarring, it’s not what you thought it would be,” Kudrow admitted at Vulture’s event. “And then, thank god, there were six of us together at the same time going through it.”

Even in those early weeks, some 20 million viewers were tuning in to watch the collection of 20somethings fumble their way through life in New York City making it the second-rated new comedy. “It’s pretty amazing, I mean I think we’re all really sort of taken aback by it because to us, down here, it just seems we’re all just sort of a theater group,” LeBlanc told Katie Couric during a 1994 Today interview. “We’re a really tight ensemble, we get along really well. It’s just a real productive environment and a great time.”

Perhaps it was a prescient knowledge of what was to come. Or, more likely, a director’s desire to have the cast of a show based on friendship truly jell, but the costars felt obligated to live up to their sitcom’s premise.

“I think it was unspoken but we instinctively felt like we need to be friends, we need get along, we need to connect,” Kudrow recalled on NBC’s Must See TV: An All-Star Tribute to James Burrows in 2016. So the famed director nudged them in the right direction: “We started playing poker and Jimmy gave us his room so we could have a bigger hangout room for us.”

Soon, the girls were getting together for lunch “every single day,” Cox recalled on the special, “and we ate the same food—a Jennifer salad.” (For inquiring minds, that would be a Cobb, but with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans.) Noted Aniston, “We fell in love with each other and wanted to hang out.”

Which made breaking up extremely hard to do. While Kudrow has copped to feeling a pang of wistfulness when she’s had to say goodbye to other roles, “With Friends, I actually cried,” she said. And it wasn’t just the absence of that $1 million-per-episode paycheck.

Even before the last season she was fretting about its potential demise. “When I really thought we might not come back, I remember driving home and I burst into tears thinking, ‘Oh, I’m going to miss Phoebe, and Monica and Rachel and Joey and Chandler,’” she shared at the Vulture event. “I miss those people. I really do. They were fun.”

Both she and Perry have gone on-record saying that just maybe they should have eked out a few more seasons. “I find myself sort of reminiscing about about how much fun the show was, and the hours that we worked. You know, you can see how much we laughed and everything,” Perry revealed during a joint appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, adding that when asked to reminisce by The Hollywood Reporter, “I found myself saying, ‘If I had a time machine, I would like to go back to 2004 and not have stopped.”

Kudrow may have signed up for that particular ride. “If it were up to us, like, individually, oh, I would keep going,” she said. “There would have come a time anyway when someone would have said, ‘We’ve had enough.’ But why not have fun until they do?”

Nostalgia on the part of two of the show’s leads led to the obvious question: Why not forget the time machine and just sign on for a reunion? It’s something fans have been clamoring for pretty much since the day the finale aired in 2004—a request that’s only grown more fervent now that Hollywood has turned reviving old hits into its favorite pastime.

With the exception of one Aniston crack about how avowed bachelor George Clooney’s wedding his proved that anything is possible, each of the show’s principals have shot the idea down for a myriad of entirely valid reasons.

Though Kudrow said rumors have been so prevalent she was almost duped—”I went, ‘Wait a minute, was I not invited? Oh my God, maybe there is one and I wasn’t asked to do it,’”—she has some serious questions about what a revamp would look like.

“They’re rebooting everything, but I don’t know how does that work with Friends, though?” she inquired during a January appearance on Conan. “That was about people in their, you know, 20s, 30s. The show isn’t about people in their 40s, 50s. And if we have the same problems then that’s just sad. That’s not fun!”

Ultimately, it was co-creator Marta Kaufman who delivered the end-all, be-all shut down, telling E! News, “Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there’s no need anymore.”

Rapper Obrafour has carved a niche for himself as one of the best lyricists when it comes to hip-hop rap, fused with adages in the Akan dialect.

It is not surprising, therefore, that Mr Ablakwah will honour him with such kind words.

The post read: “Undoubtedly one of the finest and most talented musician of the modern era. I just love him. Thanks Obrafour for this rare opportunity. Hoping not too many of your fans will be jealous…lol!”.

  • Deadly California wildfire growing

California’s deadliest current wildfire is getting larger, officials warn, despite thousands of firefighters battling it.

“Erratic winds” and dry conditions have caused the Carr fire to grow early on Sunday, firefighters said.

It is one of eight major wildfires currently burning in the state.

The fire, in the Shasta County in northern California, has killed six people so far, including two children and their great-grandmother.

Melody Bledsoe, 70, Emily Roberts, five, and James Roberts, four, died when they were caught in its path as they were about to evacuate their home in the town of Redding, about 150 miles (240km) north of Sacramento, on Thursday.

An unidentified fourth body was found in a burnt-out house on Sunday.

Two firefighters also lost their lives on Thursday. A third firefighter died battling the Ferguson fire, near Yosemite, on Sunday.

The Carr fire, which doubled in size overnight on Friday, was only 5% contained by Sunday morning. It has already burnt more than 48,000 acres (194 sq km) of land and destroyed at least 500 structures.

It began on Monday. On Thursday it became a firestorm, jumping across the Sacramento River, according to news agency Reuters.

California department of forestry and fire protection (CalFire) chief Ken Pimlott told reporters they were “seeing fire whirls – literally what can be described as a tornado”.

“This fire was whipped up into a whirlwind of activity” by gale-force winds, he said, “uprooting trees, moving vehicles, moving parts of roadways”.

A total of 38,000 people have been evacuated from Shasta County. California’s Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency in the area, as well as three others.

US President Donald Trump has approved federal aid for the counties.

The Carr is the largest of eight big fires burning in California, and 90 across the country, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

There are currently 12,000 firefighters battling the flames across the state.

Wildfires are a common occurrence in California during the state’s long, hot, dry summers.

However, experts say this has been the worst start to the fire season in 10 years – partly due to the 2012-2017 drought that killed off large amounts of vegetation.

UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain told the Los Angeles Times much of the state’s vegetation had reached “explosively dry” levels.

In December, Governor Jerry Brown said devastating wildfires fuelled by climate change had become “the new normal”, and that large fires “could happen every year or every few years”.

  • The ‘good Samaritan’ who spent 3yrs in jail after ‘finding a phone’

The hot sun as usual drove Peter and his friends out of the bushes in the Manso area and into town to buy food.

Lunchtime for the small-scale miners had arrived. It was the return journey back to work after lunch that changed his life.

He told Luv FM’s Nana Yaw Gyimah, they found a mobile phone on the ground. Peter Takpondo remembers he called a contact on the phone to inform her that he had found a phone.

According to him, he gave out his location and found police officers in his house the next day with the woman he had spoken to. He was accused of stealing the phone and whisked away into the darkness of a remand cell.

Peter has been there for three years without an end to his trial until some judges on the Justice for All Programme entered the prison to hear his story.

He was let go last Friday, July 27, 2018 to regain a freedom he says was denied him unjustly. Wearing a white shirt on his black trousers, the 25-year old weighed in on his wasted years.

“I am late in all spheres of life”, Peter Takpondo told the reporter.

He dropped out of Duayaw Nkwanta Senior High School in the Brong Ahafo region after his struggling mother could no longer pay the fees. His father had passed years before.

In his early 20’s, he moved from consumer to provider, leaving school to find work. According to him, he was working in the mines to raise money to go back to school until his ordeal put him in remand cells.

‘I have to start all over again’, he said before he was whisked away to complete some forms to officially relaunch his life after the state wasted three years of it.

  • More than 49,000 children trapped in child labour on Volta Lake

More than 49,000 of the estimated 100,000 children entrapped into modern slavery of child labour are operating on the Volta Lake in the country.

Mr David Kofi Ewusi, the Country Director of Engage Now Africa, a Child protection and welfare Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has said out of the figure, 21,000 were engaged in hazardous labour that was dangerous to their health and threatened their lives.

Mr Ewusi, who was speaking at a public sensitisation durbar for school children in the Cape Coast Metropolis on the menace of child trafficking, said modern slavery was occurring everyday and everywhere involving about 1.8 million children.

The sensitisation programme was organised by the Central Regional Police Command with support from Engage Now Africa on the theme: “Am aware, you can’t traffic me.”

Read: 39,000 pupils sit on the floor to study in the Garu Tempane Report

It formed part of their collaborative mission to engage and strengthen individuals, families and communities to end poverty by instilling hope through education, self-support assistance, and eradication of all modern forms of slavery.

Mr Ewusi said the psychological effects of child labour on victims are enormous adding that “sometimes it is extremely painful to look at scars at the back, thigh, forehead and stomach of some of the victims of exploitation”.

The practice, he said, remains a “silent nightmare” among victims as innocent children went through worst forms of torture, molestations and denial of education, food and shelter.

Mr Ewusi said the practice of engaging children for hazardous activities was a violation of their rights and illegal according to the Human Trafficking Act, 2005.

Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Paul Manly Awini, outlined measures instituted by the police to effectively tackle the menace of child trafficking and child abuse in the Region.

This included the appointment of desk officers in all Divisional Headquarters and some districts to receive and investigate cases of human trafficking across the Region.

Additionally, Police patrol team at various check points have been embolden to be vigilant to detect children who are being trafficked in vehicles and other means of transportation.

The Regional Commander said his outfit shall continue to embark on public education effort especially among children to effectively reduce the increasing phenomenon of child trafficking, abuse and it’s attending debilitating effects.

DCOP Awini said “most of the children being trafficked to inland fishing communities along the Volta Lake are being used in menial jobs such as disentangling fishing nets under the water, which is very detrimental to their health and wellbeing.”

He cautioned parents saying “schools are about to vacate and intelligence gathered so far point to the fact that, it is during this period that most children are trafficked to Yeji in the Brong Ahafo Region and its environs under the pretext of them going to visit their parents and come back when school reopens.”

He advised parents to desist from selling their children or giving them out for work at tender age, adding that, “every child is born with a great potential in him or her, but it is up to parents and guardians to help them unearth their potentials”.

He underlined the immense contribution of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in the fight against child trafficking in the Region and rallied the unalloyed support to remedy the inhumane practice.

Alhaji Karim Gruzah, who was speaking on Accra based Radio Station Happy FM indicated the liaison team is at sea with issues regarding the manner in which they are handling the national teams.

“Dr Kofi Amoah didn’t do well by sharing dollars to players. He will be blamed if there’s any indiscipline among the players . He didn’t apply his maturity,” Alhaji Gruzah said.

“He should have given the money to the technical team or the coach to share it to the players. That’s how it was supposed to be done. The Liaison team clearly don’t know what they are doing,” he added

  • No to the reckless Shift System- Okudzeto Ablakwa

As we prepare to attend the Sixth Prof. John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture to be delivered by Prof. Kwesi Botchwey later today in Cape Coast – the citadel of secondary education in Ghana.

It is instructive to note that further analysis of the official EMIS Data reveals that Public SHS enrolment increased from 479,296 to 663,500 (an increase of 184,204) between 2009/10 and 2010/11 academic years. The increase of 38 percent is the highest over the last 10 years and came about as a result of the President Kufuor era decision to extend SHS duration to 4 years.

Though the Kufuor Government did not make arrangements for infrastructural expansion to cater for the impact of their decision, his successor Prof. Mills showed remarkable leadership and foresight carrying out emergency infrastructural expansion immediately he took over as President in anticipation of this historic astronomical increase in enrolment in a year’s time. He did not go to sleep only to wake up suddenly and impose a Shift System on us for the 2010/11 academic year.

This is the kind of responsible, visionary leadership which preserved the quality of secondary education at the time which President Akufo-Addo ought to have shown having been in power for 18 months. Just as we all knew, the Akufo-Addo Government should have known since last year that they will be dealing with an increase in enrolment of some 181,993 – a figure representing a 30% increase from last year and far lower than what Prof. Mills so competently and efficiently handled without destroying the quality of secondary education.

In any case, the same proponents who tout the benefits of the Shift System (cleverly branded as a Double-Track System) are the same people telling us that after 5 years we will revert to the current system when infrastructure has been expanded. The question is: if the Shift System is so good why abolish it after 5 years? We should be opting for it forever or?

This morning I celebrate the great leadership of Prof. Mills (Ahwene pa nkasa ampa) and I say NO to the reckless Shift System.

See you all in Cape Coast – truly, the citadel of secondary education in Ghana.

    Always in our hearts, Prof.

“Dr Kofi Amoah didn’t do well by sharing dollars to players. He will be blamed if there’s any indiscipline among the players. He didn’t apply his maturity,” Alhaji Gruzah said.

“He should have given the money to the technical team or the coach to share it to the players. That’s how it was supposed to be done. The Liaison team clearly don’t know what they are doing,” he added

The liaison team are expected to spearhead the activities of the various national teams as government and all stakeholders work on the return of domestic football in the country.

Meanwhile, last week there were reports government has declined paying for ticket fare for Black Satellites players, who ply their trades abroad and have been invited for the upcoming Africa Youth Championship qualifiers.

  • I warned Nyantakyi about ‘hypocrite’ Isaac Asiamah – Alhaji Grusah

The Bankroller of King Faisal Alhaji Karim Grusah has launched a scathing attack on Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, describing him as a ‘hypocrite’ and ‘pretender’.

According to Alhaji, he forewarned Kwesi Nyantakyi about the pretentious nature of the Sports Minister but the former GFA capo failed to heed to his caution.

“I told Kwesi Nyantakyi to be extra careful with Hon. Isaac Asiamah. He smiles with you but hates you deep down. Hon Isaac Asiamah classmates have told me about his character.”

“Hon. Isaac Asiamah denied me of the stadium renovation work. He refused to give me the job.”

“I don’t want to talk about Hon. Isaac Asiamah because people think I hate him because he denied me a contract.”

Read: Nyantakyi will be exonerated and reinstated, says former collaborator Yankah

I have all the rights to feel bad or hate him for denying me that contract. I have been an NPP member longer than him despite the fact he is MP and a minister.

He said, ” What I have done for NPP, Hon Isaac Asiamah can’t do the same before he dies because he doesn’t want to learn and does not know what he is doing.”

“If Hon. Isaac Asiamah is refusing to help the media, then the media should stop helping him. I am the right person to be the next GFA president.”

The experienced Administrator claims Dr Amoah shouldn’t have given directly the money directly, rather he should have given it the technical team and coach to share it to the players.

He said, ” Dr Kofi Amoah didn’t do well by sharing dollars to players. He didn’t apply his maturity. He should have given the money to the technical team or the coach to share it to the players. That’s how it was supposed to be done.”

“The Liason team clearly don’t know what they are doing. I’ve been trying to have a meeting with President Nana Akufo Addo but to no avail,” he added.

He continued, “Hearts and Kotoko are the only clubs that can help us in this predicament that we are in currently. I ‘ve benefited from doing football but currently, I won’t advise anyone to invest in Ghana football now.”

“It’s nonsense to have allowed Eddies Doku who was captured in the video taking the bribe to sign their petition to FIFA.”

Alhaji Grusah believes he can turn things around if voted the new GFA President hence, he is ready to contest for the position.

“I am the only one that can save the game.”

“Just give me 4 years and I will turn around the game for the best. I will change a lot of things when I am the next GFA president,” he said.

“Insuah Allahu, I will contest for the GFA presidency in 2019. I am not joking. SWAG president Kwabena Yeboah will be my special aid to help with his big English.”
