  • Mayhem at Bukom Boxing Arena again as ring referee fires gun

There was gunshot inside the Bukom Boxing Arena Wednesday night following the cancellation of a scheduled boxing match.

The match was called off due to the late arrival of the boxers.

SWAG Boxing Referee of the Year Roger Barnor pulled out a pistol and fired a warning shot, leading to mayhem.

It was the first title bill under the Ghana Boxing League dubbed Fist of Fury involving boxers from Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Benin.

The event, in collaboration with Landmark Promotions, got underway an hour-and-a-half late but had the first two bouts canceled due to the absence of the boxers paired.

The remaining seven bouts had been progressing steadily until the ring announcer called out for the final bout.

And that was what turned things at the Arena.

Supporters of one of the boxers in the earlier canceled bout got infuriated and started throwing missiles.

Some jumped into the ring to wrestle the microphone from a musician, who was about to perform.

The fans insisted they paid to watch that particular Super Lightweight clash between Faisal Abubakar and Henry Mensah; hence cannot allow the event to end without that bout.

And to the surprise of everyone, a gunshot was fired.

A cursory look through the gunshot area located referee Barnor with what looked like a foreign pistol daring the angry youth to come forward.

  • Im not a ‘Hawk’ Sedofu

Mr Theophilus Sedofu, a well-built man, alleged to be a member of the Hawks, has denied being a member of the militia group affiliated to the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Although Mr Sedofu has been captured in several pictures wearing a black T-Shirt with the inscription “The Hawks”, he said he is not a member of the militia group but an Executive Member of the NDC at the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Giving his testimony on Thursday, 7 March 2019, before the Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry tasked to probe the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence, Mr Sedofu said he only wore the T-Shirt after it was given to him as a gift during a unity walk organised by the NDC in the Ashanti Region.

“The T-Shirt was given to me during a unity walk in Kumasi. I was directing traffic, the NDC was sharing the T-Shirt and they gave me one,” he stated.

He indicated that the pictures circulating online from the Kumasi event shows that he was wearing his own T-Shirt underneath the Hawks branded T-Shirt.

Mr Sedofu noted that although he has seen his pictures pop up anytime a search is conducted on the Hawks online, he does not know who to complain to and hence his silence.

Mr Sedofu became a person of interest to the Commission when it was discovered that he was present at the private residence of the NDC parliamentary candidate during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Mr Sedofu was one of the many individuals arrested by masked National Security operatives during the melee.

  • R. Kelly cries as he admits he has “zero” relationship with his kids

    R. Kelly, who was jailed on Wednesday for failing to pay more than $161,000 in back child support, says that he loves his kids, even though his relationship with them is “zero.”

The singer was taken into police custody after appearing at a hearing in Chicago. At the time, he was he was out on bail after being arrested for alleged sex abuse of four women, which he denies

In a recent interview with CBS This Morning‘s Gayle King, carried out before his latest arrest, Kelly discussed both legal cases and his ex-wife Andrea “Drea” Kelly, who claimed in a recent Lifetime docu-series Surviving R. Kelly, which focuses on sexual misconduct claims made against the singer, that he ex-husband abused her physically. He denied her allegations.

“What kind of woman would tear down a dad who’s trying to have a relationship with their kids? You know how many kids need a relationship with their father? Oh my God,” Kelly told King tearfully, adding that his relationship with their kids is “zero.”

The two share three children—daughter Buku Abi, 20, and sons Jay, 18, and Robert Jr., 16.

“How can I pay child support? How?!” he said, tearfully. “If my ex-wife is destroying my name and I can’t work? How can I work? How can I get paid? How can I take care of my kids? How? Us your common sense!”

In January, Buku Abi wrote on her Instagram Story about the sexual abuse allegations made against her father. The 20-year-old, previously known as Joann Kelly, said it has been years since she and her siblings have spoken to their dad.

She also wrote, “The same monster you all confronting me about is my father. I am well aware of who and what he is. I grew up in that house. My choice to not speak on him and what he does is for my peace of mind.”

Later that month, she and her mother talked about the sex abuse allegations on Good Morning Britain. Buku Abi said her “heart is torn into two separate places,” adding, “It’s very painful to see that all of these people are now being affected and have been affected by somebody who I do care about and have a very strenuous relationship with.”

“I never came out and said what I said to make people feel like I hate him or I’m bashing him because that’s not it,” she added. “But if my father’s a toxic person then unfortunately we have to love him from a distance. There’s no love lost but I just had to separate myself.”

The singer’s attorney said in a statement at the time, “Mr. Kelly loves all of his children and would love to see them. Unfortunately, Andrea has been a roadblock.”

  • R. Kelly’s girlfriend breaks down in tears as she fiercely defends him

The public has heard from R. Kelly and now it’s his girlfriends’ turn.

Azriel Clary, 21, and Joycelyn Savage, 23, sat down with CBS This Morning‘s Gayle King as part of the network’s headline-sparking interviews with the two women and Kelly this week. The sit-downs mark the first time the Grammy-winning singer has spoken publicly since he pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse last month. King noted that Kelly was nearby as they filmed the interview, though his team had agreed he would not be present, and the women were aware he was there.

Read: I have been assassinated – R. Kelly

While Clary and Savage’s parents have long alleged that the star has manipulated and brainwashed their daughters, the two women have presented a very different version of the story.

“When I first met Robert, my parents told me to lie about my age, so when I met him he thought that I was 18,” Clary alleged to King, denying that she ever had sex with R. Kelly when she was 17. “On top of that, when I was 17, my parents were actually making me, trying to get me to take photos with him, take sexual videos with him—all kinds of stuff…because if they ever have to blackmail him, what they’re trying to do now, they can use it against him, which is exactly what they’re doing.”

Read: R Kelly back in jail in child support case

Savage was in agreement with the allegations as she visibly nodded. “Everything she’s saying is true. Our parents are basically out here to get money,” Savage claimed. “Both of our parents are basically out here to try and get money and scam because they didn’t agree on what happened with music or wherever it could be and they’re just very upset.”

Clary further alleged that her parents began to threaten her and R. Kelly that they would release naked photos of her if he doesn’t send thousands of dollars to a bank account. “You’re trying to solicit me like I’m some f–king hoe. I’m not. I’m your child.” Both sets of parents have publicly denied ever asking or receiving money from R. Kelly.

Reacting to her claims, Angelo and Alice Clary’s attorney released a statement on Thursday that read, “Azriel Clary is presently suffering from years of mental abuse and manipulation by R. Kelly. Sadly, like so many girls before them, Azriel and Joycelyn Savage have been manipulated and convinced by Kelly to lie to protect him from serious criminal charges. Azriel’s parents never attempted to blackmail anyone and never suggested their daughter take nude photos or sexual videos. And they have never asked R. Kelly for a single penny. These are absolute lies fabricated by R. Kelly and we have evidence to show that these claims are bogus.”

Read: R. Kelly went from jail to McDonalds after bail

In a press conference on Wednesday, Joycelyn’s parents rejected Kelly’s money claim. “The allegations Mr. Kelly has brought against my family is very horrific,” dad Timothy Savage said. We are a solid family, we care about our daughter. From day one, the only thing we wanted to do was actually to see our daughter, hear from our daughter, and make sure she’s fine.”

“At no point did this family sell their daughter to anyone or provide their daughter for anything for money,” their lawyer reiterated.

In the interview, Clary grew emotional and began to cry as she warned the public against their parents’ allegations.

“I’m crying because you guys don’t know the truth. You guys are believing some f–king fascade that our parents are saying. This is all f–king lies for money and if you can’t see that, you’re ignorant and you’re stupid as f–k because you want to be all—because that’s the world we live in. Negativity sells, gossip is what sells, rumors are what sell.”

    Savage added, “Exactly.”

When King brought up the decades of allegations against Kelly, Clary rebuffed them, claiming to her, “We’re not here to talk about decades. We’re here to talk about what our parents are doing right now and what they’re doing right now is all for money.”

The two women also denied ever having singing ambitions, unlike what their parents have described publicly. “Before I even met R. Kelly, I told my parents I did not want to sing. My parents made singing like a job for me,” Clary claimed. “I even tried to kill myself because I did not want to sing as a cry out for help to tell them this is not what I want to do with my life, this is not how I want to spend my life.” CBS This Morning reported, citing medical records from the time, that she had told doctors the suicide attempt was triggered by issues with her then-boyfriend. In part of the interview with Kelly, he said Savage could not sing and that he is not “with her for her talent.”

Regarding the nature of their relationship with Kelly, they confirmed that they are “in a relationship” with the star, live with him and believe they are in love with him.

“We both have our individual relationships with him and we all are a family,” Clary described, noting they watch movies together and go to amusement parks.

However, when King asked about the nature of their sexual relationship, Clary became defensive as she told King that was not a subject she would discuss. “I’m not here to talk about my personal life and I would never share with no one what I do in or outside of the bedroom and as a woman, I’m sure you would not either,” she told King. “There are people all over the world who have multiple girlfriends. It’s no different.”

As for their well-being, Clary insisted her parents have known where she has been, that they have seen her a few times and that she is “well taken care of,” although she also alleged they stopped answering her phone calls.

Looking to the future, Clary hasn’t figured out what she wants to do with her life yet, but she’s happy doing what she’s doing now. “I know when that time comes, we know Rob is going to support us regardless.”

Savage added, “He’s our full support and we’re his full support and all we need is each other.”

  • Taylor Swift ‘carries stab bandages’ after stalker scares

Taylor Swift says she is so worried about her safety that she carries military-grade bandages at all times.

“You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things,” the pop star wrote in an Elle Magazine column.

Last year, the star won a restraining order against a man who tried to enter her home armed with a knife.

Another man was arrested last February for attacking her front door with a shovel.

Last month, he was sentenced to six months in jail for a separate incident, in which he broke into her New York apartment and took a shower before falling asleep.

And a third man was issued with a restraining order last September for sending letters in which he threatened to rape and kill the singer.

In light of those incidents, the star wrote: “I carry QuikClot army grade bandage dressing, which is for gunshot or stab wounds.”

The fear of violence extended to her concerts, she added.

Read: Taylor Swift says she will be more vocal on politics leading up to 2020

“After the Manchester Arena bombing and the Vegas concert shooting, I was completely terrified to go on tour… because I didn’t know how we were going to keep three million fans safe over seven months.

“There was a tremendous amount of planning, expense and effort put into keeping my fans safe,” she wrote.

The singer’s statement came in a column titled 30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30.

Among other things, she talked about turning off comments on her social media accounts to protect her mental health and learning to love her body.

“A little extra weight means curves, shinier hair and more energy,” she told fans.

She also revealed her mother’s cancer had returned, describing the illness as a “real problem”, and reiterated her opposition to President Trump.

“Invoking racism and provoking fear through thinly veiled messaging is not what I want from our leaders, and I realised that it actually is my responsibility to use my influence against that disgusting rhetoric.

“I’m going to do more to help. We have a big race coming up next year,” she said, hinting that she would campaign for the Democrats in the 2020 presidential election.

The star had previously refused to discuss politics – but broke her silence last October by endorsing two Democrats in her home state of Tennessee, enraging alt-right sympathisers who had somehow envisaged her as their poster girl.

    Album hints

Although Swift’s column was ostensibly written to celebrate her 30th birthday – which falls this December – fans are speculating that it is the first step in a new album campaign.

They believe the Shake It Off singer has been dropping clues about upcoming music on her Instagram account – where a photo of seven palm trees has been interpreted as a cryptic message about TS7, her seventh studio record.

Last week, Swift acknowledged the rumours with a photograph of her cat looking shocked.

“She just read all the theories,” teased the star.

  • CAF Confed Cup: Kotoko vs Al Hilal: Frimpong, Senanu back for Porcupine Warriors

While captain Amos Frimpong and midfielder Richard Senanu are expected back in action, Asante Kotoko will have to do without wingers Maxwell Baakoh and Emmanuel Gyamfi for Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup group stage clash with Al-Hilal Omdurman.

The Ghanaian side are set to host the Sudanese in a Group C matchday five fixture at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium, a week after a 3-0 triumph over Zambia’s Nkana FC at the same venue.

The return of Frimpong and Senanu is no doubt a massive boost for the Porcupine Warriors, who are hoping to pick their third win of the series.

While Frimpong is back in contention for a playing spot after serving a one-match suspension which kept him out of the Nkana triumph, Senanu returns after being forced to sit out the last game due to concerns over his match fitness. The 24-year-old picked up a ligament injury in the matchday two tie with Zesco on February 13 and only resumed training after few days to the Nkana showdown.

However, it is not all good news for the Porcupine Warriors.

According to coach Charles ‘CK’ Akonnor, winger Baakoh, who missed the Nkana fixture, will play no further part of the competition, having sustained a season-ending injury.

Gyamfi, who usually plays on the opposite flanks of Baakoh, will miss the Hilal duel after picking up an injury in the process of scoring Kotoko’s second goal against Kalampa. He was hauled off right after his strike.

Kotoko currently sit second in Group C with six points, a mark less than Hilal ahead of the penultimate round of action.

Nkana also have six points but sit below the Porcupine Warriors due to an inferior goal difference. Zesco hold the bottom position with four points.

  • Selection advice for CK Akunnor ahead of Al Hilal showdown

Former Asante Kotoko coach and player Frimpong Manso wants current club boss Charles ‘CK’ Akonnor to keep his centre-back choice of Wahab Adams and Ismail Abdul Ganiu from their last game for Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup group stage matchday five encounter with Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan.

Undoubtedly their Achilles heel in their African campaign, the Porcupine Warriors rearguard, particularly the centre-backs, have come under intense criticism for their underwhelming performances.

Last Sunday, Akonnor dropped usual choice Emmanuel Agyemang Badu for Adams. And after a 3-0 victory over Zambia’s Nkana FC at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium – their first clean sheet at home this season – there have been calls for the gaffer to maintain the set-up for future games.

“I think the introduction of Wahab Adams to the defence of Kotoko was really good,” Manso told Light FM.”

“He played very well and maintaining that pair of defenders could help the course of the club.”

Left-back Daniel Darkwah was also one of the three changes in Sunday’s defence, earning his first action of the African campaign due to the suspension of captain Amos Frimpong.

“Also, Daniel Darkwah did very well,” Manso opined.

“His surging runs, passes and crosses were simply brilliant.

“All he needs is consistency in playing more matches.”

At right-back, Augustine Sefah got the nod over Habib Mohammed, who started the first-leg clash at Nkana on matchday three.

Kotoko currently sit second in Group C with six points, a mark less than Hilal ahead of the penultimate round of action.

Nkana also have six points but sit below the Porcupine Warriors due to an inferior goal difference. Zesco hold the bottom position with four points.

  • Taylor Swift says she will be more vocal on politics leading up to 2020

A few months away from turning 30, Taylor Swift has her eye on 2020.

In a new piece for Elle magazine, in which the superstar serves up 30 things she’s learned in her (almost) 30 years of life, Swift says she feels a “responsibility to use my influence” as the country heads toward another presidential election year.

“I’m finding my voice in terms of politics,” Swift writes. “I took a lot of time educating myself on the political system and the branches of government that are signing off on bills that affect our day-to-day life. I saw so many issues that put our most vulnerable citizens at risk, and felt like I had to speak up to try and help make a change.”

Back in October, Swift made the then-rare move of weighing in on Tennessee’s midterm races, endorsing Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper, who were running for Senate and House of Representatives, respectively.

Cooper ended up winning his seat, while Bredesen was defeated by Marsha Blackburn.

Swift said at the time that she had been “reluctant” to voice her political opinions in the past, but “due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now.”

The move earned Swift a wave of criticism, particularly from her conservative fans.

Now as she approaches her milestone birthday, Swift says she feels “informed enough to speak about [politics] to my 114 million followers.”

“Invoking racism and provoking fear through thinly veiled messaging is not what I want from our leaders,” she writes. “I’m going to do more to help. We have a big race coming up next year.”

  • 8 Projects in Nkwanta-North yet to be inaugurated, one year after completion

Eight projects that were constructed under the Social Investment Fund (SIF) to improve health care, education and access to water in the Nkwanta-North District in the Oti Region are yet to be handed over, a year after completion.

The facilities include a six-unit classroom block, teachers quarters and washroom facilities at Nabu, a maternity centre at Sibi, a clinic at Azua, a drainage project and nurses quarters at Kpassa and a mechanised borehole at Tinjase.

Read: Jomoro Assembly hands over six-unit classroom block to Ehoaka Basic School

The works, valued at GH¢4.62 million, are part of a $19.1 million project that was started in 21 districts across the country in 2016 to help improve the quality of life of the people at the grassroot.

Dubbed Integrated Rural Development Project (IRDP), it was jointly funded by OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).

Read: Community Police personnel take protest to Social Media after BNI blocked demo

Per the arrangements, the beneficiary districts were required to provide counterpart funding of 20 per cent.

    Challenges

A visit by the Daily Graphic to the Nkwanta-North District last week revealed that the facilities, which were completed at the beginning of 2018, had still not been inaugurated because the beneficiary district assemblies had not been able to fulfil their side of the bargain.

In some cases, the buildings have started showing signs of deterioration from the neglect, a situation that is putting stress on existing facilities.

Read: RAINS constructs three-unit classroom block for Daboya School

At Nabu, for instance, pupils of Nabu D/A Primary School were being taught in a dilapidated structure while the completed six-unit classroom block has been left to the vagaries of the weather.

At the Sibi Central CHIPS compound, the completed maternity centre remained unused while expectant mothers went through trying moments to access prenatal services.

In addition, nurses who work at the Kpassa Health Centre lack decent accommodation even though there is a new nurses quarters nearby.

The assembly members of Nabu and Sibi Central, Messrs Isaac Kiladini and Emmanuel Triko, have, therefore, appealed to the district assembly to endeavour to pay off the counterpart fund for the projects to be put to use.

    DCE’s response

When the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta-North, Mr Jackson Jakayi, was contacted on the matter, he claimed that the assembly had paid some of the required money.

He explained that the assembly was burdened with debt it had inherited and so “there is pressure on the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and the internally generated fund
is also not realised as expected. However, we have done part payments and now have an outstanding balance of about GH¢380,000 to pay.”

Mr Jakayi added that he was in talks with the contractors of the SIF projects to open the facilities while the assembly took steps to clear the outstanding amount.

    Background

The SIF began a four-year project to promote integrated rural and local development in 21 districts in the country in March 2016.

The OFID and the BADEA made available $10.5 million and $8.6 million, respectively, to the government to undertake the projects.

The beneficiary district assemblies are the Afigya Kwabre, Ahafo Ano South, Asunafo North, Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo, Fanteakwa, Ga East, Ho West, Kassena-Nankana West and Mfantseman.

The others are Nanumba South, Nkoranza North, Nkwanta North, Nzema East, Sene East, Sene West and Sisaala East.

The rest are Talensi, Upper Denkyira West, Upper Manya Krobo, Wa West and Wassa Amenfi West.

President Akufo-Addo has outlined a guide for the behaviour of all Ghanaian citizens.

The President while addressing the 62nd Independence Anniversary celebration in Tamale reiterated his earlier admonition that being a Ghanaian must stand for something more than just holding a Ghanaian passport.

    What the President said

    • Being a Ghanaian puts an obligation on each one of us, to work at establishing a progressive and happy nation.
    • Calling yourself a Ghanaian must mean that we look out for each other

    • I do not imagine that this Ghanaian I envisage should be an angel, far from it. We will all have our human foibles but we would operate within the agreed parameters of our society.

Reiterating his point from his inaugural speech as President two years ago, the President said being a Ghanaian must come with certain responsibilities.

  • Well blacklist contractors who do shoddy works Housing Minister

The Ministry of Works and Housing has warned that government will be compelled to blacklist Ghanaian building contractors who produce sub-standard jobs when awarded contracts.

The ministry contends that works of international contractors should not outshine that of the local contractors.

Speaking at the 10th anniversary of Forever Construction and Consultancy Limited, Sector Minister, Samuel Atta Akyea indicated that government will not choose foreign contractors over the local ones but substandard jobs will not be countenanced.

“If you brought an architect from Dubai and you got another in Ghana and you gave them space to build in the country, what the architect in Dubai will put up should not over shadow what the Ghanaian can do. Often times the Ghanaian contractor complains of not being given jobs and businesses to do. It is the policy of this government that what the Ghanaian can do will not be ceded to the foreigners but if at the end of the day a Ghanaian is given business and after a year the structure begins developing cracks then the contractor is asking that he or she be blacklisted. The local contractor must produce excellent job,” he added.

Head of Corporate and Strategy of Forever Construction and Consultancy, Mr. Cecil Owusu Addo hinted that the company is rolling out an affordable semi-detached houses project for Ghanaians.

“We are ten years old and we are launching our housing project. Someone ask why we are doing this? We are doing this because in life we have to progress and this is a progression that we want everybody to see and witness and acknowledge. So ten years we are proud to do this, affordable housing projects which is a semi-detached house. We have incorporated our prices it is as low as anything,” he added.

He added that the project is to lessen the burden of acquiring a home on the ordinary Ghanaian.

Read: Local contractors plead with government to pay for completed projects

“The whole issue of affordable housing is the supply and demand analysis. The ministry has a whole catalog of individuals who want to roll out the affordable housing project and we are encouraging them to do so and we will provide the necessary guarantee for them to build the houses. But what is important like what this company is doing is that granted that the houses are built all over the country that even the size of the pocket of the average Ghanaian how are they going to own the houses. It is very few of them who can do that.”

After submitting their reports, the Minister would forward the agreement between the parties as to the modalities of the competition to the NC to organize it. • Cardi B isn’t interested in your opinions about her marriage to Offset

“I just had to get f–ked. That’s all.”

Such was the decidedly NSFW explanation Cardi B offered for why she joined husband Offsetfor a Puerto Rican vacation mere weeks after taking to Instagram to declare she and musician, one-third of the trap music sensation that is Migos, had fallen out of love and were “not together any more.”

As she had told her 41 million-plus followers days earlier during an Instagram Live chat, “I miss it…a lot.” (Never one to play coy, the straight-shooting Bronx-born rap sensation got into explicit detail about what exactly “it” was and the specific ways in which she felt herself yearning.) And so off she went to San Juan just days before Christmas, allowing Offset to take her for a ride—a jet ski ride, that is—ahead of her performance at the Electric Holiday music festival.

But as well-documented as her love for bedroom play is, that alone does not a marriage save. And the 26-year-old has plenty of other reasons for reconciling with the Atlanta rapper, 27, after he confessed to “partaking in activity that I shouldn’t have been partaking in” for the second time in their nascent marriage.

Not that she has to justify herself to anyone.

With all due respect to the fans she’s been collecting in droves since “Bodak Yellow” hypnotized the nation, “My relationship—my marriage—is not for them,” she told People as word spread of her decision to give the father of four another chance. (The spouses share 8-month-old Kulture, but Offset is also dad to Jordan, 9, Kody and Kalea, both 3.) Nor, she contends, is it anything like the romances they enjoy far from the spotlight’s judgmental glare. “People are so quick to be like, ‘You should just date somebody else,’” she continued to the mag in an interview conducted days before she and Offset were set to make the rounds at the Super Bowl in his hometown. “It’s like, Honey, I’m not like you—I’m famous. I gotta consider who I’m dating, I gotta make sure people will have me for me. And I have a kid….We are a package. It’s not just Cardi, it’s Cardi and Kulture.”

    Cardi B, Kulture, Offset

    Instagram

Which, if you break it down, is her main reason for relenting to Offset’s pleas for forgiveness.

“When I was 13, my parents separated, right?” she explained of her Trinidadian-born cashier mother and cab driver father who hails from the Dominican Republic during an appearance on Good Morning America of her. “So I always feel like it’s important to have, like, a two-parent household.”

It was more or less the same motivation she had for overlooking the “Don’t Lose Me” artist’s last cheating scandal. When an iCloud hack seemed to catch Offset with another woman she tweeted, then deleted, “I’m going to make a decision in my own times with my heart and mind. I don’t need to be rushed or be told what to do. It’s my life! I belong to me not to the world,” adding that while “it’s not right” to cheat, “What you want me to do? Go f–k me another n—a? start all over again and get cheated on again? This s–t happens to everyone.”

She later explained her situation to Cosmopolitan, saying, “It’s like everybody is coming down my neck like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.’ I know I look good. I know I’m rich, I know I’m talented. I know I could get any man I want—any basketball player, football player. But, I want to work out my sh-t with my man, and I don’t got to explain why.”

But if she did, she would have shared that it wasn’t as simple as walking away from a fiancé and the eight-carat custom teardrop-shaped rock he’d gifted her midway through his October 2017 set at Power 99’s Powerhouse in Philadelphia.

The gesture was actually one of pure show for a girl still eager to be wooed despite agreeing to wed her man in a no-frills bedroom ceremony a month earlier. “We really loved each other, and we was scared to lose each other,” she told W magazine of their spur-of-the-moment decision. And by the time the scandal broke, not only did she have a husband, but together they had learned they were expecting their first child.

    Cardi B, Offset

    Instagram

So she stayed the course, even, as she noted to W, Internet trolls tried to stoke her fears that it would happen again. “Every single day there’s rumors about me and my dude. And it almost drives me crazy, because I start to believe them,” she admitted. “I don’t have no proof. I don’t have receipts. But I just got to know my man. We practically on the phone 24 hours a day. If I can’t find him, I’m going to find his friend. Somebody going to answer the phone. But I cannot be feeling insecure, to a point that I would drive my dude away, because these people want that to happen.”

And for a while she truly felt she had a handle on the situation.

“I know my man,” she stressed to E! News. “And I know his moves. You know, ever since that cheating scandal happened in December, there has been so many rumors that he’s doing this, that he’s doing that and it’s like, you’ve just got to know your man, he’s got to know his woman and everything and it’s just like, it’s whatever because they’re going to always try it.”

“Once you do a mess up, they’re going to want to try because it’s a hot topic, it’s a trending topic, so people are going to try it. And if you let that go to your head, then you let that go in your marriage and then that’s what messes up your marriage.”

In the end, though, it wasn’t so much her doubts that did them in as it was his actions. Taking to Instagram just hours before he’d celebrate his birthday at West Hollywood nightclub Poppy Dec. 14, he seemed to confirm the legitimacy of a video The Shade Room had posted of him allegedly on FaceTime with a woman named Summer Bunni

“I apologize,” he began. “You know what I’m saying? For breaking your heart, for breaking our promise, for breaking God’s promise and being a selfish, messed up husband. I’m trying to be a better person. I want to get this off my shoulders. I want to get this off my back. I apologize to you Cardi. I love you.”

Reiterating that he still wants to spend the rest of his life with her, he detailed the level of his indiscretion. “I didn’t f–k that girl,” he noted, “but I was entertaining her, you know what I’m saying? I apologize, and I love you, and I hope you forgive me. My birthday wish is just to have you back.”

To prove it wasn’t an idle longing, he went full-court press on his Win Back Cardi campaign. Though his decision to interrupt her set at the Rolling Loud Festival in mid-December with a $15,000 display of red and white roses was a swing and a miss (“She understands where he is coming from and appreciates that he is trying,” a source told E! News at the time, “but she is still very hurt,”) his relentless overtures eventually broke through.

Weeks after Cardi told Harper’s Bazaar she turned down his request to see a therapist—”I didn’t want to go to marriage counseling,” she said. “He suggested it, but it’s like, ‘I don’t want to go.’ There’s no counselor or nothing that could make me change my mind,”—he revealed she had acquiesced.

“You gotta go through steps and different things so we can grow,” he shared during a Feb. 27 appearance on The Breakfast Club, adding that one of those steps was bringing in a professional for counseling. “Not on the TV thought, real behind the scenes, getting to know who you’re with and appreciate them all the way around.”

And an excessive display of jewels, flowers, shoes and purses never hurts a situation.

For Christmas, Offset splashed out tens of thousands of his estimated $16 million net worth to shower his bride in snakeskin pumps, designer bags and more than a few pieces of bling and he followed that up with more diamonds for Valentine’s Day along with blooms spelling out I [heart] Cardi.

But for all the Birkin bags and quilted Chanels, it’s the simple fact that Kiari Kendrell Cephus still sees her as Belcalis Almanzar, the hustler from the Bronx who landed on Love & Hip-Hop: New York talking a big game and possessing the goods to back it up.

Long before “Bodak Yellow” became the can’t miss song of summer 2017, setting the stage for Cardi’s Grammy-winning debut Invasion of Privacy, Offset was all in.

Migos was already well on the come up thanks to their 2016 track “Bad and Boujee”. But while Cardi was known in some circles, thanks to her fame-sealing reality TV gig and two successful mixtapes, she was still months away from being a household name. Offset, though, had noticed that spark, her authentic and infectious personality that suggested she was, in fact, going to be just as big of a star as she predicted, and he was smitten.

Having guested on “Lick” off her Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2 he asked his publicist to put together a dinner in New York for a select group of people, Cardi being a must-attend. “I was like, ‘Damn, I am on her!’” he explained to Rolling Stone. “I am like, ‘S–t, I like Cardi B!’”

Undeterred when she informed him that she doesn’t date rappers, he continued to press. “He was so consistent,” she would later tell E! News. “He put it down, he was just on some, ‘Look I’m not stopping until I get you,’ and it’s like, ‘Well, if you want me so bad come get me.’”

Their first outing—at the 2017 Super Bowl—immediately set them up as hip hop’s power couple and for Cardi that’s a shared title. She’s not about to split the throne with just any guy that comes calling.

“I have a kid, and I’m also famous,” she explained to Harper’s Bazaar. “So I can’t just sleep with anybody. People talk. You know, if I date somebody in the industry, that’s another person in the industry. If I date somebody who is not in the industry, he might not understand my lifestyle.”

For all of the guys currently sliding into her DMs, none have sparked any interest. “It’s like, ‘Bro, why would you want to holler at me right away? You’re weird,’” she said. “If you think Imma automatically hop onto you after a marriage, that just means you think I’m a sleaze. And I’m not. I have a kid—I have to show an example.”

    Prince Williams/Wireimage

Besides, it’s been difficult to weed out the guys who are into Belcalis from those who just want to brag they shared a dinner table with a Grammy winner.

“A whole lot of people was telling me like, ‘Oh, you could date, you could find another man,’” she noted on Good Morning America. “And it’s like, I can. I could find anybody I want. You don’t know these days who want you for you. Sometimes I’m feeling people want me for Cardi B.”

Shortly after she released their split announcement, she continued, she was inundated with dinner invitations from other male stars, most of whose interest she found suspect. As she put it to GMA, “I just feel like, it’s not as easy as people think.”

So she’s going to give her best effort to the relationship she built before she began stockpiling Grammys and American Music Awards, though she’s quick to point out that despite appearances and online declarations of love she hasn’t exactly forgotten about his past indiscretions.

For now, she told People, they’re “just taking things slow.” That means date nights, bonding over the care of Kulture, and, yes, the occasional trip to Cabo complete with an embarrassing display of rose petals that caused Cardi to declare he had earned himself a decidedly personal reward.

“I hang out with him, I talk to him every day and we do our thing,” she explained to the mag last month. “It’s just like—to make things perfect…it takes time. You know, f–king and hanging out doesn’t mean that you guys are on like a perfect note, it takes time. It takes time. And it’s a marriage and there’s a child involved and family involved.”

Or, as one source put it to E! News, the reunion is entirely conditional on his good behavior.

“A divorce isn’t on Cardi’s mind anymore,” said the source. “She has been focusing more on how they are going to work this out. The negativity of their relationship has blown over and she’s staying positive that it will work.” Still, continued the source, “Cardi is keeping a close eye on him and has expressed if he slips up again, she’s done.”

  • Islamic Banking is not the sole preserve of Muslims – Afro Arab boss

The founder and CEO of the Afro Arab Group of Companies, Alhaji Salamu Amadu has urged all Ghanaians to take advantage of the benefits associated with Islamic banking.

Speaking at the just ended Africa Business Conference at Havard Business School in Boston, USA, Alhaji Amadu said Islamic Banking is not the sole preserve of Muslims but rather a universally viable financial system that propels the socio-economic development of countries around the world.

Read: UBA group launches full banking operations in the UK

Citing Côte d’Ivoire as an example, he said although the country has only 39% of its population (24 million) as Muslims, it is a member of Organisations of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Islamic Development Bank and continues to receive development financing which was to the tune of $276.2 million in 2017 alone.

The entrepreneur also recounted that during last year’s World Islamic Banking Conference in Bahrain, Côte d’Ivoire has the largest representation from West Africa.

He said: “In Islamic finance, investments are approached cautiously and the decision-making process is carried out thoroughly unlike the conventional banking system. This is why Islamic banks are relatively unaffected worldwide during banking crises”.

He advised that Ghana follows Côte d’Ivoire by joining the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Islamic Development Bank, which he says will help government and private businesses in the country to receive cheaper funding for projects.

He also lauded the creation of the Ministry of Zongo and Inner-city Development which he says is a good start to make inroads that will open up Ghana for development aid and partnerships with oil-rich Gulf countries.

One of his companies, the Afro-Arab Micro-Finance won the 40 under 40 award as the Best Emerging Micro-Finance Company in 2017.

Arab Micro-Finance is set to launch a mortgage financing programme in partnership with Afro-Arab Properties which promises to give Ghanaians the opportunity to buy land or a house and pay in instalments.

  • It’s senseless to compare leaked tape of CID Boss to Ofosu-Ampofos Maurice Ampaw

Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has drawn a thin line between a purported leaked tape of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) boss, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah and that of the embattled National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, and MyNewsGh.com reports.

“The leaked tape of Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah can be described as an administrative error whilst that of Ofosu-Ampofo bothers purely on criminality”, the lawyer spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM morning show monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Read: Leaked Tape: Kwesi Pratt lambasts CID for holding Ofosu-Ampofo for hours

According to Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, for those especially members of the opposition NDC seeking equalization of the leaked tape of Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo and that of CID boss are just mixing apples with the oranges.

“It is will be senseless to seek equalization because the content of the two leaked tapes are not same”, Lawyer Ampaw pointed out to host of the show, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

Read: CID Boss lacks moral right to investigate leaked tape Asiedu Nketia

The leaked tape which Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo himself has described as doctored, appears to have sparked trust issues among the top echelons of the party with leadership suspecting moles within to have been planted to destabilize the front of the NDC.

On Monday, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo on Monday March 4, 2019 refused to admit or otherwise whether the voice in the infamous leaked tape is his.

Read: NDC National Chairman charged over leaked tape

Several attempts by police interrogators to get the NDC executive speak about the issue proved futile to the extent his lawyers had to intervene and caution the police against harassing their client.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo in the tape in part is heard saying ““Once we are focusing our attention on Akufo-Addo and in fact I think that we should not focus too much on the IGP.

In fact a policewoman called me and said as for them, they regard the IGP as a civilian because the man is [retired] and once you have retired as an IGP…this came from a policewoman.

And so even though we will bash the IGP, I think that the whole thing was political so we must situate the communication on the president who is the commander in chief and who controls the security agencies and how he has shown his true colours as a very violent person.

We traced the antecedent from when he became a flagbearer and what he did to his own chairman and others and created a culture of silence and beat people up and did all sorts of things and has brought him into government. We need to expose him so that tomorrow as my brother said if NDC decides that we are also organising ourselves which of course we are going to organise and organise ourselves well then gradually we have shifted the attention onto them. In fact when people hear of violence in by-election, they will be thinking about Invincible Forces and the rest so we will quietly be doing our own thing.”
