Residents of Adenta, Ritz Junction, Madina and their environs, have given a November 12, 2018, ultimatum to demonstrate their frustration over the six uncompleted footbridges on the Madina/Adenta/Aburi highway.
The residents issued the ultimatum at a town hall meeting over the weekend.
Most of the residents were clad in red T-Shirts, with the phrase: #fixourfootbridgesnow, written in front and behind, signifying their resolve to use all means to get the footbridges completed and also drawing attention to the mobilisation of the youth and adults around the issue since the middle of the year.
From July 30 to August 4, 2018, six pedestrians who were attempting to cross the highway were knocked down and killed by speeding vehicles.
The La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) Chief Executive, Mrs Dede Jennifer Afagbedzi, who passed through when the meeting was ongoing, assured residents of the commitment by institutions responsible and the government to complete the footbridges.
Residents, however, were of the view that lives already lost on the highway were one too many for them to sit and wait patiently for that commitment to be fulfilled.

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah regrets not seeking an early treatment in Turin after his career was truncated by an injury while playing for Fenerbahce in 2005.
The 37-year-old endured a hellish and nightmarish knee ligament injury 13-years ago, which defined his career at the Turkish giants.
The Ghana legend enjoyed a fabulous run in the Serie A with Udinese and Parma before being transferred to giants Juventus.
The midfielder featured prominently for the Old Ladies in his debut season, playing 30 matches for the side.
He also managed 18 appearances the following season but his move to Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce kick-started his injury nightmare.
Appiah missed the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana due to a niggling knee injury.
The Ghanaian failed to establish himself after recovering from the long setback and he has admitted he would have saved his career if he had sought medical support in Turin.
“If I had gone to Turin they would have treated me better,” he said

The Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS), in partnership with Hope for children, has handed over a three-unit classroom block and ancillary facilities to the Daboya No2 Primary School in the Northern Region to facilitate teaching and learning.
The classroom block, worth GH¢168,654.00, was funded by Overseas Aid and Development Commission of Guernsey to improve access to quality education for children in the rural areas.
Dr Abudulai Sulemana, the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of RAINS, indicated that the block has a toilet, urinal and hand washing facilities.
He said RAINS had been assisting Daboya and other communities in the West Mamprusi Municipality to address child labour, child rights and to achieve quality education.
Mr Murielle Maupoint, the Chief Executive Officer of Hope for Children, an international charity organisation, said the school block would make learning enjoyable for the pupils, who, hitherto, were crammed into one classroom, making learning difficult.
Alhaji Mohammed Haroum Cambodia, the Northern Regional Director of Education, urged the traditional leaders in the rural areas to stop child marriages and rather assist the girl-child to go to school.
Mr Iddrisu Tia Nuhu, the Head Teacher of Daboya No2 Primary School, appealed to the Ghana Education Service to build teachers quarters for the school to addresses the accommodation challenges.
He commended RAINS and Hope for Children for their support towards improving education in the community.

Palestinians in Gaza have been protesting weekly along the border with Israel since March.
The protests, orchestrated by the territory’s militant Hamas rulers, are held in support of the declared right of Palestinian refugees to return to their ancestral homes in what is now Israel.
More than 200 Palestinians – mostly in the demonstrations – have been killed by Israeli troops since the protests began, according to the United Nations and Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza.
One Israeli soldier has been shot dead by a Palestinian sniper.
Israel says its forces have only opened fire in self-defence or against would-be attackers trying to infiltrate Israel under the cover of the protests.

The Ghana Police Service has received a total of 200 saloon cars to make it more efficient in the discharge of its duties.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who handed over the fleet to the Service at a short ceremony at the forecourt of the police headquarters in Accra on Friday, said the gesture forms part of government’s commitment to improve the Force’s operational capability and provide security for Ghanaians.
The President earlier in the year promised to provide the Service with the needed equipment and logistics to enable it discharge its duty effectively.
The President assured that his government would spare no effort to strengthen and fashion the Force into an honest, disciplined, efficient, robust and proactive Service.
“Government will continue to mobilize whatever assistance it can to enable the Police give the people the kind of service they deserve,†he stressed, adding that the most essential thing for the nation was the assurance of the safety of the people and the security of the nation.
“It is when these are guaranteed that citizens can go about their lives in security and try to improve upon the quality of their circumstances. It is, therefore, vital for the Executive to offer its full support to the Police to allow the maintenance of law and order,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo told the gathering that government had also committed resources to procure kits, gear and quantities of other essential equipment, as well as more vehicles for the Police.
He urged personnel of the Service to pay attention to the proper maintenance of the vehicles and “use them to serve and protect the Ghanaian people”.
The President further asked Ghanaians to lend support to the work of police, saying, ” when the citizenry and Police work together, we can be assured of our safety and security, and channel our energies into building a progressive and prosperous nation”.
Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, Deputy Inspector-General, was confident the vehicles would improve tremendously the operational capability and effectiveness of the service.
He assured that the service would put the vehicles to their intended use and also adopt a regular maintenance culture to ensure that the vehicle are fit for purpose at all times.

“I’ve been doing my best and I think I deserve this chance to represent Ghana next month,” Bonsu told Goal.
“There are equally good goalkeepers around but since the call-up is solely based on form, I believe the coaching staff must give me the opportunity. At least, everyone in Nigeria is aware of my heroics and I need to be rewarded.
“With Ghana in a dire need of three points against Ethiopia to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, I think my presence will help. Kwesi Appiah must give me a chance. This is my time and I promise to do my best when given the opportunity,” he added.

If you’re a worrier at heart, you can’t just stop because I told you to. “These traits stay with us,” says Nancy Parsons, executive coach, president of CDR Assessment Group and author of Fresh Insights to End the Glass Ceiling. But over time, she points out, you can make key adjustments. “You can manage to neutralize your tendency to over worry and prevent it from interfering with your performance.”
Start by following a piece of age-old advice. Ask: “What’s the worst that can happen?” According to New York City psychologist and author Dale Atkins, PhD, that approach can really help. Unless, she says, you suffer from extreme anxiety, which could make thinking about the situation worse, it’s instructive to play the scenario out in your head and consider the possible ramifications. More than likely, it won’t be anything you couldn’t handle.
Ask yourself the following:
What’s the worst that could happen?
What’s the likelihood of the worst happening?
What strengths would you bring to the situation if the worst happened?
How have you coped in any similar worst-case scenarios in the past?
What’s your plan for handling the worst if it actually does happen?
Going through this exercise allows you to see that even if the outcome is bad, you will have a way of dealing.
It can also be helpful to use a friend (not a work colleague) as a sounding board. A friend can remind you of your core strengths (like my husband saying I was a working woman) and how you’ve coped with challenging situations in the past.
What’s key, says Parsons, is to try to catch yourself before going into worry mode because it’s easier to neutralize the tendency to worry than to eliminate your tension and anxiety when you’re in the thick of it. Note the worry beginning to build, ask yourself what triggered it and refuse to allow your buttons to be pushed.
In addition to leaving the house sans sunscreen and popping your pimples:
Don’t: Use In-Office-Strength Chemical Peels at Home
Why it’s really that bad:Â Unlike the ones you find at reputable cosmetics outlets that are specifically designed for home use, “Extremely strong peels you might buy from websites you don’t know very well can do serious damage to your skin,” says Sejal Shah, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York. “I’ve seen women end up with chemical burns, which are not only painful but lead to scarring and dark marks.”
The fix:Be wary of peels that use language like “office-strength” on the label. Better yet, run any potential peels past your dermatologist before using, or ask for recommendations based on your skin type.
Why it’s really that bad: Serious sunburns, anyone? “Homemade sunscreen is the single worst thing I’ve ever seen someone do to their face,” Shah says. “It can be disastrous.” People may do it because they’re worried about chemicals found in store-bought sunscreens, and DIY versions often include some form of the physical UV blocker zinc oxide. If you’re thinking, But zinc oxide is a common ingredient in non-chemical sunscreens, so what’s the big deal?, here’s the problem: “Without FDA testing and approval, you have no idea what level of protection you’re getting,” Shah says. Ingredients in FDA-approved sunscreens are “generally recognized as safe and effective.” The FDA also vets whether a sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays to offer broad-spectrum protection and verifies its water-resistance level.
The fix:There are plenty of safe, effective and well-tested products to choose from, both physical and chemical.
Don’t: Try More than 1 New Skincare Product at a Time
Why it’s really that bad: The more unfamiliar ingredients and products there are on your face at once, the higher the likelihood that your skin won’t play well with one of them. “And if you have a reaction, you won’t know which product caused it,” says Doris Day, a clinical associate professor of dermatology at NYU Langone Medical Center, in New York. The fix: Don’t try to overhaul your entire skincare regimen in one go. Limit new products to 1 per day
Don’t: Over-Exfoliate, Over-Cleanse, Over-Apply
Why it’s really that bad:Both dermatologists we spoke to have seen patient after patient who assumes that if a little is good, more is undoubtedly better: Women who wash their face 4 times a day, exfoliate in the morning and at night, pile on 4 wrinkle fighters or blow right by the “apply a thin layer” direction on acne spot treatments and lay them on thick. “The only thing you’re going to accomplish is drying out and irritating the skin and making whatever problem you were trying to solve worse,” Day says.
The fix:Â Best results come from following the directions on the product. If you’re doing that but still not getting what you want from your current regimen, ask your dermatologist how you can safely improve it.
Don’t Make These 2 Mistakes With Glasses
1. Forgetting to clean them before wearing Why it’s really that bad:Just like your smartphone, your glasses can accumulate oil, bacteria, dirt and grime, especially on the nosepiece and sides that make contact with your skin, potentially causing breakouts and skin irritation. The fix:Â Every day, run your glasses under warm water, add a drop or two of liquid dish soap (helpful for getting grease off of lenses and frames), says Karen Gladstone, OD, an optometrist at Arrigg Eye and Ear Associates in Lawrence, Massachusetts, wash the glasses, then dry them with a soft cotton or microfiber cloth.2. Procrastinating on getting them Why it’s really that bad:Â Over time, habitual squinting can lead to wrinkles around the eyes and an aged appearance, says Shah. The fix:If you have to squint to see things that used to be clear as day, make an appointment with your eye doctor and get yourself some specs.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Serie A leaders Juventus came from behind to beat struggling Empoli and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Empoli, who have not won since the opening day, went ahead when Francesco Caputo fired home from 16 yards.
Juve had a penalty when Ismael Bennacer shoved over Juve captain Paulo Dybala, with Ronaldo converting.
The £99m summer signing then scored a sensational 25-yard effort into the top corner to win the game.
Empoli – last season’s Serie B champions – played well, but Juve’s quality and grit showed as they pulled off a third comeback win of the Serie A season.
They are now seven points clear at the top after nine wins and one draw in 10 games, although most other teams still have to play their league games this weekend.
Juventus have been champions for the past seven years – now, with 28 points from 10 games, this their joint best start to a Serie A season, along with 2012-13.
Ronaldo has now scored seven goals in 12 games for the club, including four in his last three Serie A matches.

The UN Stabilization Mission in Mali, MINUSMA, reported on Saturday that two peacekeepers had been killed and several others wounded, following on from a coordinated attack at dawn, on a base in the north of the country.
A proliferation of armed groups fighting government forces and their allies in the centre and northern areas of Mali following a failed coup six years ago, have made MINUSMA the most dangerous mission to serve in as a UN blue helmet.
A statement from the Mission said that peacekeepers based in Ber, close to Timbuktu, had “repelled a complex attack, launched simultaneously by several pickups armed with rocket launchers and machine gunsâ€, as dawn broke on Saturday.
“I strongly condemn this brutal attack which will not undermine our determination to support Mali, on its march to peace”, the statement further read.
Blue helmets chased after the unidentified assailants, and a few hours later in the Mopti region, peacekeepers came under attack again, this time through improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.
The UN Special Representative and head of MINUSMA, Maamat Saleh Annadif, expressed his indignation over the attacks carried out by “enemies of peaceâ€.
“I strongly condemn this brutal attack which will not undermine our determination to support Mali, on its march to peaceâ€, he said. “The perpetrators of these crimes must be prosecuted and made to pay for their actionsâ€, he added.
The MINUSMA Chief extended his condolences to the families of those killed, and wished the wounded a “speedy and complete recoveryâ€.

BBC football commentator Ian Stringer was at the King Power Stadium on Saturday covering Leicester’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.
Around 90 minutes after full-time, the helicopter belonging to Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha crashed outside the club’s ground shortly after taking off from the centre circle. It is not yet known who was on board.
“I have seen staff, backroom staff of the first team in tears here this evening,” Stringer adds. “The reception area is described as silent, people are looking around and crying and not knowing what to do and consoling each other.
“This is a very close football club, a tightly knit group of people. People love this guy – they pulled off the greatest sports story ever at this stadium and lifted the Premier League trophy.
“The chairman looked at me today on his way to the executive box and said ‘hello and good afternoon’. I said ‘good luck’, he said ‘thank you’.”
Freelance photographer Ryan Brown had been at the match covering the game.
“I heard the helicopter take off,” he told BBC Radio 5 live. “I turned around and it made a whirring noise and grinding noise and then went silent, it was spinning out of control.
“The blades had stopped spinning and then there was a big bang and a big fireball. Lots of people started running towards the scene, as I came around the corner there was a huge fireball.
“It crashed right near the stadium. It just cleared the stadium roof and landed in an industrial park next to it. By looks of it, it has crashed straight into the ground.”
Stringer spoke to a former Leicester player who said the helicopter “took off as normal and flew over the west stand, as it went over the stand, it dropped out of the sky and hit the ground”.
Andrew James, Match of the Day floor manager added: “I was walking back to the car park and was aware as I got in my car of the noise of the helicopter hovering above the stadium.
“I got in my car because it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary and as I was exiting the car park there was a woman walking in looking towards the sky.
“I said ‘are you OK?’ ‘Can you move?. And she said ‘look, look’. I looked out of my window and saw smoke initially and she kept saying ‘it just spiralled to the ground’. Very quickly, within seconds of that, there was police cars.”
Day of drama on BT
The match ended at around 19:25 BST.
Afterwards BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey discussed the owner’s helicopter, from their studio at the King Power, as it took off from the centre circle of the pitch behind them.
Around five minutes later, after an advert break, he revealed the helicopter had crashed. The studios were then evacuated.
It was the second incident BT Sport staff found themselves at the centre of on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, former England and Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle was taken seriously ill after appearing as a pundit.
It led BT to cancel their Saturday afternoon results programme.
“Worst experience of my life,” tweeted ex-England midfielder Paul Ince, who had been a guest on BT Sport on Saturday morning. “Praying for the gaffer and his family. Huge thanks to all the crew at @btsportscore.”
Former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage added: “Worst experience of my life today , thoughts and prayers with Glenn and his family, so proud of our BT Sport team today.”
‘No ordinary Saturday’
Gary Lineker presented Match of the Day just hours after the crash and following the news of Hoddle, who is said to be “responding well” to treatment after being taken to hospital.
“We would normally come on air and tell you about the games we can look forward to seeing in the show,” former Leicester striker Lineker said. “This though is no ordinary Saturday.”
Clubs around the country and Europe tweeted that the club were in their thoughts, while numerous Leicester players tweeted the praying emoji.
England left-back Ben Chilwell said he was “speechless”.
“Terrible scenes at Leicester,” tweeted West Ham centre-back Fabian Balbuena, who scored against Leicester. “My prayers and thoughts go out to everyone involved.”
‘The saviour of Leicester’
Srivaddhanaprabha, 61, owner and chairman of duty-free company King Power International Group is worth an estimated $3.8bn.
The Thai businessman bought Leicester in 2010, with the club winning promotion to the top flight four years later and they then beat odds of 5000-1 to claim the Premier League title in 2015-16.
Stringer said: “I’m a local guy, I have followed the club for about 10 years, I remember them taking over and have generated a relationship with them. I have seen them in Thailand and Bangkok, in their home surroundings, they are really nice people.
“He [Srivaddhanaprabha] is a billionaire, very wealthy and successful man and so humble and lovely.
“He celebrated his birthday by handing out cake, he bought drinks for travelling supporters, bought breakfast and scarves for those on away trips.
“He wrote off the debt when he took over club from Milan Mandaric to give it a stable footing to be able to grow. He has invested an enormous amount of money.
“In the last 10 days the local council approved a new £100m training ground to be developed. The chairman is the saviour of the football club and taken it to heights no-one expected.”
Leicester City Supporters Club chairman Cliff Ginetta told Radio 5 live: “It’s such a tragedy. The family are very, very popular with the people of Leicester. They are loved by the Leicester public for what they have done to the football club and for what they have done for the city.
“They have put the city on the map worldwide, they’ve put millions of pounds into the club and lots and lots of money into local hospitals, children’s care. When it’s his birthday he buys everyone in the ground a beer and a cake. At Christmas time it’s free mince pies and a drink and that’s the way they are.
“He doesn’t speak great English so he doesn’t talk a lot but he certainly likes to walk around the ground and shake hands with people. He’s got time for the normal fans.”

The body of the deceased has been retrieved by a joint rescue team of Police, Fire Service and National Disaster Management Organization and deposited at Begoro District Hospital.
The Fanteakwa District NADMO Director, Rev. Opoku Acheampong told Starr News the boy fell into the uncompleted manhole covered with slabs in the evening.
He said the deceased’s parents, oblivious of his demise, began searching for their son and even made an announcement on a Local Information centre until the body was found the next day in the Manhole.

Ghana winger Solomon Asante was at his usual best for Phoenix Rising as they defeated Swope Park Rangers 4-2 to advance to the semifinals of the United Soccer League (USL) on Saturday morning.
Phoenix Rising began the game on the front foot after Jason Johnson handed the advantage on the 22nd minute, but the lead did not last as Tyler Blackwood pulled parity for the visitors with a fine finish four minutes later.
Despite Phoenix dominance, they were pegged back by Hadji Barry’s 33rd-minute strike but just the opening two goals, Rick Schantz’s side levelled the score line on the 36th minute through Chris Cortez.
The Arizona-based took charge of the game in the second stanza and deservedly shot into the lead via Kevon Lambert’s sweet strike before Didier Drogba sealed the famous victory in the 94th minute.

ICYMI, the top bridal designers in the business just revealed their latest wedding dress collections at Fall 2019 Bridal Fashion Week. Along with the Brides editors, I’ve just spent several whirlwind days heading to back-to-back fashion shows and presentations, checking out all of the freshest bridal trends that’ll you’ll soon be seeing at weddings everywhere—even those of the celebrity set!
What better place for our favorite famous brides to find their dream dresses than the runway, after all? And as each gorgeous gown made its debut, I couldn’t help but imagine which ones celebrity brides-to-be—such as Lea Michele and Priyanka Chopra—might choose for their own wedding days, had they been sitting next to me in the front row.
Wondering what I have in mind? Here are my wedding dress picks for these engaged celebs.
I fully expect Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas to say I do in a multi-event celebration that spans countries and cultures (they did celebrate their engagement with a traditional Hindu roka ceremony in Mumbai, after all).

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Upper West Region has called on drivers to exercise restraint over the recent fuel price increase as their leadership work to find an amicable solution.
The Union said frequent fuel price hikes was bringing untold hardship on transport operators and drivers alike who found it difficult to meet their daily sales to transport owners.
Alhaji Nuhu Mahama, the Senior Industrial Relations Officer (SIRO) of (GPRTU) in the Region, who was speaking to Ghana News Agency, urged government to take pragmatic steps that would bring some relief to petroleum consumers.
According to him the drivers in the Region last weekend complained bitterly about the petroleum price increases and mounted pressure on GPRTU leadership to raise transport fares because the prevailing prices did not allow them to make their regular sales to vehicle owners.
Alhaji Nuhu said GPRTU was negotiating with the Ministry of Transport on the matter and called on the irate drivers to stay calm while the leadership concludes discussions with state officials.
Fuel price across various marketing companies in the country shot up by around two per cent margin, which the National Petroleum Authority attributed to hikes in world market price of crude and weaknesses of the cedi against the dollar and other currencies.

Intermittent power outages in parts of Brong-Ahafo has attracted the displeasure of small-scale and medium-term businesses in the region.
Affected businesses include owners of barbering shops, cold stores, tailors, hairdressers, dressmakers, welders, and sachet water producers and sellers. The business entrepreneurs have therefore appealed to the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) to set up regional and district offices to receive and help address their complaints with urgency.
At a sensitization meeting held at Nkoranza on Thursday, the entrepreneurs expressed worry that the PURC did not have offices at the district and regional levels.
The Brong-Ahafo Coalition of Business Association (BACBA) in collaboration with the Centre for Interest and Posterity Organisation (COPIO), a Non-Governmental Organisation, and service providers organised the meeting. Aimed at helping to identify and address bottlenecks affecting the economic activities of small-scale businesses, the meeting formed part of an advocacy project being implemented by the Association with support from the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC).
Mr. Mustapha Maison Yeboah, the Board Chairman of BACBA, described the operations of the Volta River Authority (VRA) particularly in Dormaa and Nkoranza Municipalities as well as Nkoranza North District as poor and appealed to the PURC to intervene.
He alleged that economic activities of many of the entrepreneurs in Brong-Ahafo were collapsing gradually because of rampant power outages Dr John Akparep, a researcher and a lecturer at the University of Development Studies (UDS) urged the PURC to place priority on interest of utility users and established offices at least at regional offices.

Officials in California’s Yosemite National Park are investigating the deaths of two people who fell from a popular lookout on Wednesday.
A park spokesman said the bodies of a man and woman were spotted by a tourist beneath Taft Point, which rises about 3,000 ft (900m) above the valley floor.
At least 10 people have died in the park this year, the spokesman added.
“This incident is under investigation and no further details are available,” spokesman Scott Gediman said in a statement.
The latest deaths come just one week after a photo of the Taft Point lookout went viral, when a photographer captured a wedding proposal amidst the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Taft Point, a promontory at elevation 7,500ft (2.3km), features breathtaking views of Yosemite Falls and El Capitan – the famous granite rock that is popular amongst rock climbers.
“It’s a super-popular place in Yosemite. Really popular for engagements, proposals, weddings,” photographer Matt Dippel said after the snap went viral online.
“There were at least three or four different brides and grooms up there doing their post-wedding photos, so it’s definitely not an uncommon thing to see up there,” he told CNN, after asking the internet to help him locate the couple that he photographed on 6 October.
In 2015, famed rock climber Dean Potter died during a stunt that began at Taft Point.
Potter, and fellow extreme athlete Graham Hunt, were wearing wingsuits – skin tight suits with batwing sleeves and a flap between their legs to help them glide – when they jumped from the point.
The pair crashed after attempting to clear a V-shaped notch in a ridgeline, park officials said.

The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has denied a media publication suggesting that it spent GH¢10,652.06 on food for eight persons at a single meeting.
Describing the said publication as a misrepresentation of facts, the Authority explained that the memo circulating in the media circles have been doctored.
In a statement issued by GMA on October 25, 2018, it stated that the amount quoted in the memo was the cost of food for three different meetings (management and stakeholders) held last year.
The meetings were held on October 31, 2017, November 6, 2017, and November 8, 2017.
This, the statement said could not have been food for eight persons as purported by the publication.
It added that the members for stakeholder meetings alone numbers more than 40 at a sitting aside management team of the Authority.
The GMA said it will in due course address all related issues.
According to the GMA, the “for 8 participants” inserted at the minute 2 was mischievously put there and circulated and that the original memo (below) file does not have that.

Travellers who purchase airline tickets online from third parties (agents) have been advised to be wary of the platforms they buy from as some of these tickets are sold by fraudulent people operating as middlemen.
According to the Director of the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Dr Herbert Gustav Yankson, there is a growing trend of such fraud cases where tickets have been sold to unsuspecting customers by fraudulent people online.
In less than two weeks, his outfit has recorded about seven different cases from airline ticket agencies, whose system had been hacked and subsequently tickets sold to customers online.
Dr Yankson explained that although the customers might not be aware of such systems hacks, they could suffer the consequences and be restrained from travelling with such tickets when traced.
He said fraudulent people use huge discounts as baits to entice buyers seeking for cheaper rates online; they sell the tickets quickly and then disappear.
In some instances tickets are sold at one-third the official rate.
“If the tickets are being sold at a cheaper rate compared to the official market price.
The chances are that it may have been stolen and the thief needs a quick buyer,†he explained.
He said if an agency realised that some of its tickets have been sold by a hacker, the only way to trace it would be through the customer who travels with the ticket.
“When doing such transactions online, be sure you know the person you are dealing with because you stand the chance of being arrested,†Mr Yankson advised.
Cyber hygiene
Dr Yankson also advised operators of genuine agencies online to observe proper cyber hygiene to prevent hackers from gaining access to their systems.
Cyber hygiene refers to practices and steps that users of computers and other devices take to maintain system health and improve online security.
These practices are part of a routine to ensure the safety of identity and other details that could be stolen or corrupted.
He said practices such as sharing passwords among employees, visiting malicious websites, downloading from unverified links and other transactions online which they take for granted exposed their systems to hackers, cautioning that computers used for official duties should not be used for any other purpose.
One of the agencies for instance had about 15 of its tickets sold overnight.
Foreign-based websites
Dr Yankson said with the cases they were currently investigating, the websites used for those transactions were out of Ghana and so the police had to liaise with foreign counterparts, which could take some time.
“These hackers are experts at what they do and could even be operating here with foreign Internet protocol (IP) addresses.
It is very difficult to trace such activities as we cannot tell who runs the business or the location,†he stated.
He said the police would seek a court order to get the details of the travellers who used the stolen tickets from the airline companies.

The CEO of Ashantigold Sporting Club, Mr Frederick Acheampong, says his club has decided not to be part of the controversy over Ghana’s candidates for CAF clubs competitions because the matter was effectively concluded last Friday.
Mr Acheampong told the Daily Graphic in an exclusive interview yesterday that once the Normalisation Committee (NC) decided at last week Friday’s meeting with club owners that Ghana would not participate in Africa, any further discussion on the subject was inconsequential.
“At last Friday’s meeting, the debate was not about which clubs qualify to go to Africa but whether Ghana should participate or not.
“At the end of the day, the Narmalisation Committee decided that Ghana should not participate in Africa due to the current crisis.
That was what the discussion centred on,†he recalled.
“So for me, the issue about which clubs qualify to represent Ghana didn’t come up at all. That is why we (Ashgold) have decided not be part of the latest debate over which clubs qualify or not.â€
He said though Ashgold were ready to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup on the basis of their second position on the league table, they decided to respect the majority decision that Ghana should withdraw from Africa this year.
He noted that the Obuasi-based club had taken the decision in its stride and would prepare well for the future.
Mr Acheampong said as of now, even if any Ghanaian club decided to participate in Africa, time would not be on their side to go through the complicated registration process.
CAF’s extended deadline for Ghanaian clubs to submit their names for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup is Monday, October 29.

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), lawyer Obiri Boahen, has revealed on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that, the elephant family is not responsible for the various vigilante groups associated with the party.
Reacting to concerns raised by the Ashanti regional branch of Invisible Forces and neglect by the party, the lawyer told sit-in host of Frontline, Kwabena Agyapong that, the party did not sanction the formation of the vigilante groups hence Ghanaians should stop blaming the party for the existence of these groups.
Some constituency chairpersons for the Invisible Forces on Friday spoke with Rainbow Radio and slammed the party for neglecting them.
The four chairpersons, Richard Takyi, Tuffour Sharibu, Ibrahim Abubakar and Kwadwo Baafi told the host they were promised jobs but after two years of the party being in power, they have not seen the jobs promised them.
They have therefore planned a massive demonstration on November 20, 2018 to press home their demand for jobs.
They have also decried the failure of leaders of the party to address their concerns despite constant complaints.
Leading the team, Richard Takyi popularly known as Soja said, they sacrificed for the party but their sacrifice has not yielded any positive results.
The demonstration he explained will help authorities address their concerns. He also appealed to President Akufo-Addo to intervene because they believe his men have not been apt on matters affecting them.
But reacting to the concerns raised by the forces lawyer Boahen emphasised that, the NPP is not in charge of all the vigilante groups associated with the party.
He further disclosed that, loyal supporters of the party formed the groups but is not officially recognised by the party.
His comments nearly led to a verbal war between him and the members of the Invisible Forces who slammed him for making such comments. Lawyer said, the members are not being fair and the approach they have used is not the best.
He made claims that, some of the members of the forces have been given jobs. He said, some people died, others lost their eyes in the name of working for the NPP to make it win power.
”We should not be addressing this issue on radio. Let me be clear on this, the NPP as a party has not formed Delta Force or Invisible Forces. These groups were formed by loyal of NPP and it has helped NPP but we did not form it as a party. But the fact that it helped us does not make it a shoot of the NPP. People are calling on us to disband these groups as if the NPP formed it. We did not form it,” he added.
