We will continue to support Alan to bring a third force, dismiss us – Buaben Asamoa tells NPP

Former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has officially accepted the dismissal of himself and his colleagues who were expelled from the party due to their unwavering support for Alan Kyerematen’s independent presidential candidacy.

The group, including Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow, and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, violated Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP’s constitution, leading to their removal from the party. Buaben Asamoa, speaking on behalf of the quartet, stated that they have no intention of challenging their dismissal.

“Though none of the persons mentioned has received a personal copy, we accept our dismissal from the NPP and pledge our commitment to Ghana’s success through our support for Alan Kyerematen. We also take this opportunity to respond and set the minds of concerned well-meaning patriots at ease,” he stated.

He emphasized that their steadfast backing of Alan Kyerematen stems from their belief that Ghana requires a “bold and viable candidate like Alan Kyerematen” to address the democratic and economic challenges of the current times.

“I and my friends Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, in our support for Alan Kyerematen, a man of vision, competence, integrity and action, represent millions of Ghanaians who want to serve the country with a clear conscience. We are upholding the preamble to the Constitution, articles 1, 3(2), 17(1)(2)(3), 21(1)(3), 35(1)(4)(5)(9), 37(2)(a) and above all, article 41,” he stated.

    Read his full statement below;

    Hon Yaw Buaben Asamoa writes…

Re: ‘FORFEITURE OF MEMBERSHIP PURSUANT TO THE PROVISION OF ARTICLE 3(9)(1) OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY CONSTITUTION’

My attention and that of my esteemed and patriotically principled colleagues, Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, has been drawn by numerous media outlets to a statement purportedly issued and signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, captioned as above.

Though none of the persons mentioned has received a personal copy, we accept our resignation from the NPP and pledge our commitment to Ghana’s success through our support for Alan Kyerematen. We also take this opportunity to respond and set the minds of concerned well-meaning patriots at ease.

First, our public conduct in unconditionally and with great conviction supporting the highflying independent candidature of Alan Kyerematen for president, is against the NPP constitution, which provides for automatic forfeiture of membership under article 3(9)(1). That is incontestable and therefore needs no formal written notice.

Unfortunately for the Party ‘Leadership’, the wholesale application of the poorly written article 3(9)(1), may not be serving the interests of the general membership of the Party well. By not differentiating between support for presidential and parliamentary candidates, conduct against a presidential candidate, results in forfeiture of the parliamentary vote as well. This is clearly out of step with the fast developing political culture of “skirt & blouse”, where voters increasingly mix their choice of presidential and parliamentary candidates based on factors other than what the party ‘Leadership’ says.

H.E. the President benefitted from ‘skirt and blouse’ when he won ten constituencies in the Central Region where NDC won the parliamentary seats. Are those who accepted the President but voted otherwise at parliamentary level to be sacked?
Hundreds of thousands of NPP members and millions of sympathisers are deeply unhappy at the so called ‘mafia’ tactics of intimidation and inducement used to skew delegate elections in favour of choices that may not necessarily be popular with the general electorate. Indeed, the ‘mafia’ approach is against article 55(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which demands democratic principles in internal party processes. Whilst there is value to being part of an ‘organisation’ like a ‘party’, continuing exclusionary practices, quietly erodes loyalty and conviction, over time.

Secondly, the same article 55(2) which gives a right to join political parties also gives a right to support political activity as an independent under 55(10) and (16). Considering that the right of a political party to sponsor candidates, does not exclude the right of independent candidates nor their supporters to participate in general elections, it may not be prudent to continue to reduce ones’ membership with archaic rules.

Thirdly, in the profound wisdom of the 1992 Constitution, qualification to the presidency of Ghana does not require political party affiliation. Articles 57(1), 58, 62 and 63(1)(2)(3) and 94, dealing with the nature, qualification and powers of the office, have nothing to do with parties. Furthermore, exercising the powers of the presidency do not require party authority. In office, a president appoints and runs a government under articles 70, 76, 77, 78(1)(2) and 79, without a stated party presence. A voter does not have to be a member of a party to benefit from the presidency.

Fourthly, the public is keenly aware that the selection of H.E the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Presidential Candidate of the NPP, was the confirmation of a process carefully designed to have only one outcome. Because it was choreographed, there is nothing new or surprising to offer the voter public. Arguably, the patient Ghanaian voter, has been short-changed by the presidential candidate selection processes of both the NPP and NDC. The lack of genuine choice of candidates at party level, translates into a loss of trust in duopoly politics and increasing apathy, hence the loud chorus for a credible third force leadership if democratic practice is to be sustained for the benefit of youthful voters.

That is why a bold and viable candidate like Alan Kyerematen, meets the need of the times. I and my friends Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, in our support for Alan Kyerematen, a man of vision, competence, integrity and action, represent millions of Ghanaians who want to serve the country with a clear conscience. We are upholding the preamble to the Constitution, articles 1, 3(2), 17(1)(2)(3), 21(1)(3), 35(1)(4)(5)(9), 37(2)(a) and above all, article 41.

Finally, the 1992 Constitution recognises ‘coalition’ governments. A coalition is defined by the oxford dictionary as “a temporary alliance for combined action, especially of political parties forming a government”. Alan Kyerematen wants to bring Ghanaians together in the next election, in a Government of National Unity, to think Ghana, and redirect Ghana onto a positive trajectory.

Nowhere in our constitution is it specified that Parliament is bi-cameral or that only a majority and minority can operate in Parliament. It is a fiction sold by the Standing Orders. Article 97(2) states unequivocally that a member need not lose their seat under 97(1)(g) and (h), if their party is a member of a coalition government. Article 103(5) admonishes that committees of Parliament ought to “reflect the different shades of opinion in Parliament”. Article 104 talks about a majority of members present and voting. It does not refer to a majority party.

Ghana is ready for a political third force capable of breaking unproductive duopoly politics. We do not need a change of constitution to effect the change of leadership that the parties are incapable of offering. We have Alan Kyerematen. Together, our support for his independent presidency will unleash the development energy being suppressed by tit-for-tat duopoly politics.

Speaker Bagbin’s residence was not sold to a private developer – Lands Commission

The Lands Commission has denied reports indicating that the Speaker of Parliament’s official residence at Cantonments was ever sold to a private developer.

Speaker Alban Bagbin, while at the Speaker’s Breakfast Forum on Monday, disclosed that his residence was almost sold to a private developer.

He revealed that the attempt to sell came to light when the developer sought to register the land at the Lands Commission.

“Many of you don’t know that even the residence of the Speaker was almost sold to the private sector. Actually, it was given out. It was when they went to register that the Lands Commission identified that that was the residence of the Speaker. Luckily, I was inside, so it was saved,” he stated.

However, some tabloids in their reportage have asserted that the Speaker’s residence was indeed sold.

The Lands Commission, in response, has denied that any such transaction occurred.

In a press statement dated November 20 and signed by Acting Executive Director, Benjamin Arthur, the Commission explained that the land in question was acquired in 1920 by a Certificate of Title, dated 7th June, 1920 for Government services.

Since 2003, the land has always been used as the official residence of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament.

By an application dated 15th November, 2022, and numbered PS/LS/002/12/22, Parliamentary Service applied for a Certificate of Allocation to regularise their occupation of the land, which measures approximately 1.66 acres.

At its sixty-fourth (64th) Regular Meeting held on 22nd December, 2022, the Regional Lands Commission approved the application after all statutory processes, including planning approval from the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, had been duly concluded.

On 14th February, 2023, the Lands Commission said it made an offer of allocation to Parliamentary Service.

“Parliamentary Service accepted the offer, and after paying the requisite fees, a Certificate of Allocation, dated 28th April, 2023 was issued to Parliamentary Service,” the statement added.

The Lands Commission therefore noted that it is “unaware of any purported sale of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament’s official residence to a private developer”.

The Commission has reiterated its commitment to the prudent and efficient management of public lands in the national interest, and promote effective land administration that is anchored on the highest standards of integrity, transparency and candour.

“I am a fixer, with supersonic speed” – Captain Smart praises himself for “fixing” Onua TV

Media personality Captain Godsbrain Blessed Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has today announced his departure from Onua TV after 2 years.

While revealing his exit, Captain Smart lauded himself for the good work done for a biennium.

He acknowledged that Onua TV needed a revival and during his stay with Media General, he was able to ensure he did just that. According to him, the baton needs to be passed on to someone now.

“My speed is always supersonic. It is always supersonic. I am a fixer. I fix. I make sure the dead will rise. I always make sure, that what is spoilt, the station that is dead and nothing can be done about it, that is when I bring it up. So thank you all Ghanaians. We have done enough. Someone should come and continue,” he said.

In June 2021, Captain Smart resigned from Accra-based Angel FM following his suspension from Angel FM for consistently chastising Akufo-Addo.

Upon his arrival, Captain Smart presented shows on both Onua FM and Onua TV and introduced his firebrand presenting.

Some comments landed him trouble, but regardless, they drew traffic for the radio and television station.

Recently, the National Media Commission (NMC) issued a final warning to Onua Radio/TV and Captain Smart over an inciteful broadcast.

In a press statement dated Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the NMC said that Captain Smart had directly insulted the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) and other Commanders of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as “beasts” during a recent broadcast.

The NMC further stated that Captain Smart had claimed that these officers embezzled monies meant for soldiers on peacekeeping operations, but had offered no evidence to support his claims.

The NMC described the broadcast as “dangerous” and “unprofessional.” It also noted that it had warned Onua Radio/TV about promoting violence against the state in December 2022, but that the station had not taken steps to address the issue.

The NMC gave Onua Radio/TV and Captain Smart until November 19, 2023, to:

    – Withdraw the insults and apologize to the CDS and his commanders
    – Apologize to the Ghanaian public for the use of vulgar language
    – Put in measures to stop the dangerous behaviour of the station and improve the station’s capacity for regulatory compliance

The face allegedly behind Abena Korkor’s explicit viral videos

Photos of Abena Korkor’s videographer, identified as Nana Made in China, have surfaced on social media and are currently trending.

Nana Made in China is reportedly responsible for handling all of Abena Korkor’s explicit videos.

Reports suggest that he is a drug addict who is currently facing challenges after losing his page.

His pictures have gained attention on social media following the circulation of multiple intimate videos involving Abena Korkor.

While Abena Korkor has accused individuals like former NDC organizer Joshua Akamba and the Deputy Director of Cyber Crime of Police for the leaks, there are claims suggesting that she may have orchestrated the leaks herself as a political distraction.

Mzbel’s son secures 3 ambassadorial deals

Ghanaian hiplife musician and entrepreneur, Mzbel, has revealed that her son, Kwame Adepa, also known as Okomfo Black, has managed to secure three ambassadorial deals.

According to Mzbel, these deals take effect next year.

She made this known while presenting to her son a brand new laptop, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2, she bought for GHS 21,000.

Initially, she tricked her son into believing that she was not able to get him the gadget of his dreams.

“When it starts, they all (brands) promised that they will get you exactly what you want,” she said.

Adepa, who is tech-savvy, did not throw tantrums but was assured by his mother that he would obtain the laptop he required.

Later on, Mzbel hands over a laptop to Adepa and to his surprise, it is a Surface Laptop 2. He runs helter-skelter, screaming all over the place.

He later settles down and informs his mom that he is aware she got the laptop he requested after spotting a Microsoft logo. Mzbel was surprised and pointed out that Adepa did not overreact because of this.

In their conversation, it emerged that Adepa is taking a coding class, which he is taking quite seriously. Should he keep that up, Mzbel has promised to get him an iPad. Adepa unboxed his new laptop in front of his mother.

In an earlier video posted by Mzbel, Okomfo Black showcased remarkable passion and unexpected tech-savviness as he delved into the specifications of the laptop.

Analyzing both the advantages and disadvantages, he presented a well-rounded perspective on the device, showcasing a depth of understanding beyond his years. His insightful commentary on the laptop’s features not only educated the audience but also brought a smile to his mother’s face.

Throughout the video, Okomfo Black’s enthusiasm for the subject was palpable, and his articulate expression of thoughts demonstrated clarity and confidence.

My house at Cantonments was nearly sold; luckily, I was inside – Speaker Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has disclosed that his Cantonments residence was on the brink of being sold to a private developer while he was still occupying it.

Speaker Bagbin credited the Lands Commission’s intervention for preventing the sale of the property. He shared this information during the Speaker’s Breakfast Forum at the Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel in Accra on November 20, 2023, emphasizing the challenges Parliament encounters, including property-related issues.

“Many of you don’t know that even the residence of the speaker was almost sold to the private sector. Actually it was given out. It was when they went to register that the Lands Commission identified that that is the residence of the Speaker. Luckily, I was inside, so it was saved,” he said.

Speaker Alban Bagbin emphasized the challenges faced by Parliament in regaining properties and the ongoing struggle to secure land for the construction of parliamentary structures.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, Ghana’s start of democratic journey is known to all and needs no further mention. This largely affected the development of parliamentary democracy. Unlike the executive and the judicial arms of government, we have had to be a number of times and we lost almost all our properties. So, we are now struggling to get even our lands for us to be able to put up some structures to accommodate parliament,” he added.

The Speaker’s Breakfast Forum was under the theme; “Thirty Years of Parliamentary Democracy under the Fourth Republic: Reflect on Citizen’s Engagement and the way forward”.

“Thank you for containing me” – Captain Smart tells Media General management

Media personality Captain Godsbrain Blessed Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has today announced his departure from Onua TV after 2 years with Media General.

He revealed his resignation while presenting the Maakye show, where he noted that the management of Media General “contained him during his stay.

“Once again, let me thank the management of media general for containing me. My speed is always supersonic.

This suggests that management might have had some issues with the comments he made on the show.

It may not be far-fetched as recently, the National Media Commission (NMC) issued a final warning to Onua Radio/TV and Captain Smart over an inciteful broadcast.

    – Apologize to the Ghanaian public for the use of vulgar language
    – Put in measures to stop the dangerous behaviour of the station and improve the station’s capacity for regulatory compliance

Meanwhile, Captain Smart, who has admitted to not being content with disseminating information, wants to undertake more initiatives that will help change the country’s fortune.

“We have to save this country at all cost and it will be a bash at my back and a bar I cannot hold to survive if I cannot quit to save this country.

“I cannot always stay in my comfort zone. I cannot. Sitting on air, holding microphones, being mic’d is a comfort zone. I want bigger bigger and the biggest task, the great, greater, the greatest task, to prove to the world that once again, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs,” he stated.

‘Tell your vibrator what you want for Christmas’ – Netizen ‘mocks’ pro-sex toy advocates

For their candidness, they found themselves featured on the Honest Bunch podcast. However, their honesty has now become the subject of criticism from some individuals who believe that a man offers more than just sexual intercourse.

A preview of Honest Bunch’s latest podcast, scheduled to air today, explores the use of a sex toy—specifically, a vibrator. The women who shared their perspectives expressed a preference for a sex toy over a man’s reproductive organ.

The first woman highlighted that, in her entire sexual experience, she has yet to come across a man who provides the same level of sexual satisfaction as a vibrator.

“What a vibrator can do, I don’t know one man that can do it. That is a fact. You see that reading, that consistency a vibrator has, no man wiggle his tongue consistently like that till you c@m.”

She expressed her dissatisfaction with how men sometimes fail to get it right when they are about to reach orgasm.

“Sometimes when you are doing it with a man, he is getting the rhythm, then you are about to c@m, then it changes. Then I’m like oh my goodness,” she bemoaned.

Another lady admitted that once a woman comes into contact with a vibrator, she comes to the realisation that a man’s effort amounts to zilch.

“If your partner is giving you normal one and you have been taking it for years, then vibrator just comes and (shakes you up) (and your legs begin to shake) and take you there in 3 seconds, what are you doing with man again?” she said.

Their statements have garnered several reactions, which are generally opposing theirs.

One Mazintundeednut spoke against identifying man merely as a sexual object.

Another netizen who decided to light things up a bit said “tell your vibrator what you want for Christmas”.

    About the Honest Bunch

The Honest Bunch is an audio-visual podcast that focuses on discussing real millennial and Gen Z issues with no holds barred. There are 4 main personalities on the show – Nedu, Husband Material, Deity Cole, and Naomi.

The cast members bring their unique individual personalities and wit to the show.

Occasionally, a guest is brought on to share opinions on topics tailored to their experiences, interests, or personalities.

At the Honest Bunch, we are telling original Nigerian realities from the lens of the youth. The show is stupendously funny, inconceivably revealing, somewhat shocking, and yet unequivocally informative.

    The Vibrator

Per reports, in the 19th Century, doctors first used vibrators to treat women for ‘hysteria’ – a now-defunct medical term that covered everything from headaches to nervous breakdowns.

The treatment was to give the women an orgasm. Using a vibrator saved these doctors the arduous task of doing it by hand.

This can be traced back to a book called The Technology of Orgasm: “Hysteria,” the Vibrator, and Women’s Sexual Satisfaction. Published in 1999, it was written by the historian of technology Rachel Maines, now a visiting researcher at Cornell University in the US.

Although vibrators can enhance sexual pleasure by providing focused and intense stimulation, leading to more satisfying experiences, overuse or reliance on vibrators may lead to desensitization, where the body becomes less responsive to other forms of stimulation.

  • Alcohol ban will rob us of our livelihoods – Arnold to FDA

Alcohol ban will rob us of our livelihoods – Arnold to FDA

Entertainment pundit Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has criticized the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for its recent decision to ban celebrities from advertising alcohol.

He argued that this move is detrimental to the entertainment industry, as many celebrities depend on endorsement deals with alcoholic beverage companies for income.

Arnold expressed concerns that the FDA’s decision could affect the revenue streams of the industry by hindering beverage companies from sponsoring events and productions. He contended that the FDA’s efforts to promote decency are, in fact, having a negative impact on the entertainment sector.

“Most of these alcoholic beverage companies take on celebrities as brand ambassadors, and you and I know for a fact that one of the biggest revenue-generating points for these celebrities is endorsement deals.

“If you cut such an avenue, you are killing the entertainment industry. Beverage companies can’t sponsor events and productions. The FDA thinks it’s creating sanity in society, but it’s destroying the entertainment industry,” he said.

Arnold Asamoah Baidoo highlighted that certain international brands, such as Heineken, effectively advertise their products without explicitly featuring celebrities consuming alcohol.

He questioned why a similar approach couldn’t be adopted in Ghana, suggesting that a more nuanced and creative strategy could be employed to promote products without violating the FDA’s guidelines.

“If you look at the adverts by Heineken, they do the adverts without showing the celebrities actually drinking them. So why can’t we do the same?” he questioned.

Arnold Asamoah Baidoo commended the Gaming Commission and the National Lottery Authority for their approach of involving celebrities instead of opting for a ban. He underscored the positive role that celebrities could play in educating children about responsible drinking if utilized appropriately.

Expressing his frustration, Baidoo criticized regulatory bodies like the FDA, asserting that decisions are often made without transparent justifications or data. He endorsed the idea of a potential lawsuit, suggesting that allowing the court to decide could be the most suitable course of action.

“The likes of the Gaming Commission and the NLA are actually using these celebrities instead of banning them. Look at the progress they’ve made. This is because these celebrities have influence and following.

“If your mandate is to protect the children, why not use these celebs to educate the children in that light. But right now you’re killing the industry,” he said.

Mark Darlington Osae, the artist manager of Reggie ‘N’ Bollie and Skrewfaze, has initiated legal action against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame over the ban on celebrities endorsing alcohol-related products.

The FDA had prohibited celebrities from endorsing alcoholic products, citing concerns about inappropriate influence on the youth.

Osae filed a writ of summons on November 11, 2022, asserting that the 2015 FDA recommendations are unjust to the creative arts sector.

“No well-known individual or professional may be utilised in advertising for alcoholic beverages; this is against the 1992 Constitution’s provisions 17(1) and 17 (2).

“Articles 17(1) and 17 (2) of the 1992 Constitution guarantee quality before the law and prohibit discrimination against persons on grounds of social or economic status, occupation, among others, and consequently null, void, and unenforceable,” the FDA guidelines read.

Before the initiation of this lawsuit, several celebrities, including Camidoh, Brother Sammy, Wendy Shay, Shatta Wale, and Kuami Eugene, voiced their opposition to the law and called for the repeal of the regulations.

However, the hearing, originally set for November 15 and anticipated to be overseen by a seven-member panel of judges, has been adjourned to January 17.

  • Sacked OpenAI CEO Altman gets a new job at Microsoft

Sacked OpenAI CEO Altman gets a new job at Microsoft

In a surprising move, Microsoft Corporation announced the recruitment of Sam Altman, the co-founder and former CEO of OpenAI, just three days after Altman’s departure from OpenAI.

Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, has revealed on X that Altman, along with Greg Brockman and other undisclosed colleagues, will lead a new advanced AI research team at Microsoft.

Nadella expressed anticipation of providing the necessary resources for their success.

Nadella wrote: “We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and have confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support our customers and partners. We look forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and OAI’s new leadership team and working with them. And we’re extremely excited to share the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success.

“I’m super excited to have you join as CEO of this new group, Sam, setting a new pace for innovation. We’ve learned a lot over the years about how to give founders and innovators space to build independent identities and cultures within Microsoft, including GitHub, Mojang Studios, and LinkedIn, and I’m looking forward to having you do the same.”

Sam Altman, co-founder and former CEO of OpenAI, was dismissed from his position by the board of the company on Friday.

In response, Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati was appointed as the interim CEO to lead OpenAI while a search is underway to identify a permanent successor.

The board’s decision to remove Altman was based on a review process that found he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, impeding its ability to fulfill its responsibilities, leading to a loss of confidence in his leadership.

Murati, having been part of OpenAI’s leadership team for five years, is deemed uniquely qualified for the interim role.

In a statement, the board of directors said: “OpenAI was deliberately structured to advance our mission: to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all humanity. The board remains fully committed to serving this mission. We are grateful for Sam’s many contributions to the founding and growth of OpenAI. At the same time, we believe new leadership is necessary as we move forward. As the leader of the company’s research, product, and safety functions, Mira is exceptionally qualified to step into the role of interim CEO. We have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead OpenAI during this transition period.”

As part of the transition, Greg Brockman, who served as chairman of the board at OpenAI, will step down from that role and continue in his position at the company, reporting to the CEO.

OpenAI, originally founded as a non-profit in 2015 with the mission of ensuring that artificial general intelligence benefits humanity, underwent a restructuring in 2019 to enable it to raise capital while preserving its non-profit mission, governance, and oversight.

The board, which includes independent directors Adam D’Angelo, Tasha McCauley, and Helen Toner, maintains its responsibility to advance OpenAI’s mission and uphold the principles of its Charter.

An online petition seeking the reinstatement of Ghanaian student Elom Tettey-Tamaklo at Harvard University has garnered over 5,000 signatures.

The petition emerged following reports that Tettey-Tamaklo was allegedly expelled for expressing views on the Israel-Hamas conflict, particularly in support of Palestine.

Harvard PSC (Palestine Solidarity Committee) asserts that he has been suspended as a residential advisor and is facing disciplinary actions for speaking out about the situation in Gaza.

“Harvard is evicting a Black man, Elom Tettey-Tamaklo, for speaking out about Palestine. His crime? Protecting students from an instigator who tried to dox them. A senior university leader called Elom a ‘gang’ member and pointed to his residence in Harvard Yard.

“The university then suspended him as a residential advisor, citing ‘student discomfort’ and promoting racial stereotypes about violent and unsafe Black men. This is a blatant lie, as none of his students have raised any concerns. Harvard is setting a dangerous, ugly precedent: free speech ends when Palestine begins,” parts of the post reads.

Now, the online petition titled ‘Calling on Harvard to Reinstate Elom as Proctor’ has gained traction on change.org, amassing over 5,000 signatures since its creation on November 18, 2023. It has a target of 7,000 signatures.

The petition expresses public outrage over the perceived unjust suspension of Elom Tettey-Tamaklo, a Ghanaian student at Harvard, and criticizes the school administration for allegedly providing a misleading description of the suspended student’s character.

Alleged Jubilee House soldiers involved in GHC29k gold robbery

A report from The Herald has disclosed the names and designations of the individuals involved in an armed robbery at Akyem Akanteng in the Eastern Region, bringing embarrassment to the Office of the President, Jubilee House in Accra.

The implicated individuals, including four soldiers, an immigration officer, and a private security man, have been remanded in police custody by the Koforidua Circuit Court B. Notably, the Ministry of the Interior has distanced itself from the Immigration Officer, clarifying that he is not stationed at the Ministry and pledging to investigate the matter.

Initially, the names of the culprits were concealed, with only the victim, a 55-year-old cocoa purchasing clerk named Samuel Ofori, being identified.

In a report, The Herald implicates Sergeant Mensah Dominic (41 years) and Lance Corporal Tetteh Wayo (43 years), both stationed at the Jubilee House as part of the culprits.

The other individuals involved in the armed robbery incident are Lance Corporal Nyarko Bernard (28 years), stationed at ABF at Tamale Command Unit, and Private Eric Amin (23 years), stationed at 11 Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Accra but currently on leave. Additionally, Lance Corporal Richard Okyere (27 years) and an Immigration Officer stationed at the Ministry of Interior, along with Kelvin Marfo (28 years), a private security man at the 5th Hour Mining Company in Akyem Akwatia, were implicated.

The prosecution alleges that the immigration officer, responsible for a Mitsubishi L200, orchestrated the plan, picking up the two military officers from the Jubilee House and others before heading to Akyem Akanteng on November 10, 2023. Armed with military rifles, the accused reportedly invaded the complainant’s home at 3:00 am on November 11, demanding GH¢100,000 and making threats.

The frightened complainant offered GH¢10,000 cash and 5 grams of gold ore valued at GH¢29,000, which the accused took before fleeing. The police apprehended the suspects at the Osenase checkpoint, recovering military rifles, ammunition, and a helmet.

The accused face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, leading to their remand until November 28, 2023, as requested by Assistant State Attorney Micdad Iddrisu, to facilitate ongoing police investigations.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has refuted media reports suggesting that the Immigration Officer arraigned before the Koforidua Circuit Court ‘B’ for involvement in an armed robbery at Akyem Akanteng is stationed at the Ministry of the Interior.

“The Ministry of the Interior wishes to inform the general public that the Immigration Officer in the media reportage is not stationed at the Ministry of the Interior as purported and as such the public should treat that reportage as false information, a statement posted on its website said.

“The Ministry, therefore, disassociates itself from the Officer and will conduct investigation to unravel the fact of the matter.

“The Ministry of the Interior remains committed and will continue to ensure peace, security, law and order in the country for the benefit of the people living in the country,” portions of the report from The Herald read.

  • Meet the 3 men likely to be behind ‘The new force’

Meet the 3 men likely to be behind ‘The new force’

For close to a month, Ghanaians have observed an unusually masked face on billboards.

It is believed that its emergence is due to the 2024 general elections. “The New Force“—a who or what is promising a new Ghana.

Now, many are curious to find out the face behind the masked man or men. The billboard, which shows a man in a wooden mask and a suit, conveys a message of leadership for the next generation, with the hashtag #TheNewForce. The billboard also has the flag of Ghana at the bottom right corner.

Several individuals have come out to announce their affiliation with “The New Force” while others have given hints that suggest they are “The New Force” or a part of it.

    Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Former convenor for #FixTheCountry movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, on November 4 gave the indication that “The New Force” is not an individual but the whole of Ghana.

In a Twitter post where he shared an edited version of the viral billboard, he wrote: “We are all behind that Mask! The New Force is us! Not an individual.”

    Dr Sam Ankrah

A Development economist, Dr Samuel Ankrah, is also claiming to be the face behind “The New Force”. Unlike the other individuals, he has stated categorically that he is the face behind the masked man.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, November 19, he called on the entire populace to “rally behind a youthful movement that seeks to champion transparency and accountability.”

Ironically, he stated that “No Masked Promises”, seemingly contrasting with the masked representation on the billboards.

He explained that “‘No Masked Promises’ symbolizes the rejection of political facades and the commitment to unmask the truth. By focusing on tangible actions over empty words, this campaign vows to bridge the gap between promises made and promises kept.”

“We have the power as youth to make this change. Learn more about Dr Sam ANKRAH as the newest force for the next generation,” he added.

In July this year, the investment banker officially announced his candidacy for president.

“The time has come to change this narrative. Ghana can no longer afford to be associated with uninspiring and mediocre leadership that promises much and delivers little to nothing. The era of musical chairs-styled change in leadership – where one underperforming leader replaces another equally underperforming one is no longer acceptable to Ghanaians.

“The nation is calling on men and women whose hearts beat for Ghana and who have proven to be competent leaders and efficient project managers, to step up and help with the Ghana Project.

“This is the reason I have decided to run for office and I humbly ask for your support as I officially announce my candidacy as an independent contestant for the office of President of the Republic of Ghana today,” he said.

    Captain Smart

Today, the host of Onua TV’s Maakye programme, Captain Smart announced his resignation.

Shortly after announcing his departure, he broke into a speech on African unity and self-reliance, stating, “The truth of the matter is that there’s a billboard in town; the face must show. Ghana is my priority, and West Africa is my home. And Africa is my responsibility.”

He continued, “We have to save this country at all costs, and it will be a bash at my back and a bar I cannot hold to survive if I cannot quit to save this country. I cannot always stay in my comfort zone. I want bigger, bigger, and the biggest task—the great, greater, the greatest task—to prove to the world that once again, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs.”

This has raised questions about whether Captain Smart is suggesting he is the face behind “The New Force.”

  • Winning Grammy’s Best Alternative Jazz Album, Best Pop Dance Recording category will be hard for any Ghanaian – Kuami Eugene

Winning Grammy’s Best Alternative Jazz Album, Best Pop Dance Recording category will be hard for any Ghanaian – Kuami Eugene

Afrobeat singer Kuami Eugene has expressed the view that winning the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards would be challenging for Ghanaian acts unless the music industry invests more in its musicians.

Speaking on Entertainment Guide on DGN, hosted by Prudence, Kuami Eugene emphasized that the Grammy Academy introduced these categories not to appease Ghanaians but to expand its award categories. He stressed the need for the music industry to put in extra effort to compete for and secure these awards.

Kuami Eugene’s comments come in response to the excitement among some Ghanaian music enthusiasts following the introduction of new Grammy categories that recognize genres such as Ghanaian Drill, Highlife, Afrobeat, and more. He clarified that the Grammy Academy’s decision is not based on personal interests favoring Ghanaians but is a move to diversify and recognize a broader spectrum of musical genres.

“The new category is making the job more difficult because highlife is not all about Ghana. Other African countries are doing highlife now. So currently it is not about who can do highlife but who can push highlife to the top and we don’t have the funds here in the country to champion the song,” he said.

Kuami Eugene emphasized that the Ghanaian entertainment industry is still struggling to secure funding support from investors to promote music and artistic endeavors on the global stage.

Despite the challenges, he continues to contribute to the industry and has recently released his single “Monica” from his ‘Love and Chaos’ album, which has garnered significant attention on various digital music platforms.

  • NDC stands for development and we keep our promises – Mahama

NDC stands for development and we keep our promises – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama is encouraging Ghanaians not to lose hope during what he claims is an era of economic hardship.

He asserts that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the only party capable of rescuing the country for a brighter future.

Speaking at the Apostolic Continuation Church in Techiman, Bono Region, as part of his Building Ghana Tour on Sunday, November 19, 2023, Mahama emphasized that the NDC is a development-oriented party that ensures comprehensive progress for the country when in power.

Attributing the current challenges and hardships to the Akufo-Addo-led administration, Mahama criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that the NDC does not make promises it cannot fulfill, unlike the NPP.

In urging Ghanaians not to give up, Mahama is positioning the NDC as a party capable of delivering on its commitments for the overall development of the nation.

“We are not like them, we don’t promise when we know we can’t deliver, we don’t just promise we keep them, NDC is the only development-oriented party.”

Speaking before the congregation, he further noted that “People thought there was development and prosperity here, and now we have lost everything. The nation is pitiful, the country is facing hardships, and the economy is bad.”

“I thought they would continue the good work I left behind, but the nation seems to be retrogressing in development,” Mahama complained.

Reflecting on Ghana’s history as the first African country to gain independence and hold the title of the black star of Africa, Mr. Mahama urged the youth to maintain hope in the promise of a better Ghana. He emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the best choice for fostering development and growth in the country.

“One thing has become resoundingly clear, and it is that our country is not on the right path. We are clearly headed for a major ditch if immediate action is not taken to reverse the trend. I also asked, after listening to many of the people who spoke in these interactions, what we can do collectively to address the excruciating hardship and suffering confronting many a Ghanaian’’ Mahama lamented.

“The problems of our country are legion and hydra-headed. As I distilled from my interactions with the people of Ghana on this tour, the most pressing problem is the impact of the ailing economy on livelihoods, prospects, and dreams”, he said.

  • Afia Akoto number 3 on ballot paper for NPP Parliamentary primaries

Afia Akoto number 3 on ballot paper for NPP Parliamentary primaries

Maame Afia Akoto, an aspiring Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei North constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has selected the Number 3 slot on the ballot for the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary primaries on December 2, 2023.

Following the vetting process and subsequent balloting, the former Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) secured the Number 3 position on the ballot paper.

She was accompanied by numerous party supporters and sympathizers to the vetting grounds, which were held last Saturday at the NPP’s new Greater Accra Regional Office in Teshie.

In a post on her Facebook page on Sunday, she said, ‘’When you say a prayer, please say one for me too. I believe in servitude and have done so all my life. This is the time for me to do it better for my people in OKN…’’

According to her “I am not here for the camera, but to serve from a place of love for the voiceless, our children and struggling parents. Please pick up your phone and call the delegate you know in OKN to join the winning team and the selfless lady Afia Akoto. #3’’.

She added, “I am a woman of Prayer and understand the battle is not of man, but of God. Yes!!!! The Trinity God, the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (3) has again given me a token of his involvement’’.

Afia Akoto faces intense competition in the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Okaikwei North Constituency. Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, currently serving her second term, is among the strong contenders in the battleground.

Notably, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, the incumbent MP for the Akropong Constituency in the Eastern Region, has chosen to contest in the Okaikwei North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region instead of Akropong. This decision stems from Sammi Awuku’s pursuit of the Akropong seat, leading to a shift in her electoral focus to Okaikwei North.

  • Hopeson Adorye, Buaben Asamoa, others sacked from NPP for siding with Alan

Hopeson Adorye, Buaben Asamoa, others sacked from NPP for siding with Alan

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has revoked the membership of four prominent members: Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, Hopeson Adorye, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique.

The decision, outlined in a press release issued on Monday, November 20, is attributed to their public endorsement of a presidential aspirant other than the party’s elected flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The statement, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, cites this endorsement as a breach of the party’s constitution, particularly Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1).

These articles emphasize members’ obligation to abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the party.

The press release highlights the party’s awareness of the activities of the four individuals and notes their persistent association with the NPP despite their breach of the party’s constitution.

It concludes by clarifying that their actions go against the principles of the party and, as a result, their membership has been forfeited.

“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of recent activities of Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow and Boniface Abubakar Saddique which includes publicly endorsing the candidature of a person other than the duly elected Presidential Candidate of the Party; Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.”

“In spite of their flagrant breach of the Party’s Constitution particularly Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1), the afore-named men still hold themselves out as members of the NPP.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, Article 3(5) (A) (4) of the NPP Constitution enjoins all members of the Party to ‘abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party’,” parts of the statement added.

  • Ofori-Atta dragged to court by Mahama Ayariga over GFSF

Ofori-Atta dragged to court by Mahama Ayariga over GFSF

Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has filed a class action suit against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, over the establishment of the Ghana Financial Stability Fund (GFSF).

He has accused the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, of coming up with a scheme with the potential to deprive private indigenous bank owners of the ownership of their assets.

Mr. Ayariga contends that the Finance Minister’s use of unscrutinized methods in handling the Fund constitutes a violation of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

In a writ submitted to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, November 15, the former Information Minister is pursuing multiple reliefs, including a declaration that the establishment of the GFSF is both illegal and unconstitutional.

Mr. Ayariga is urging the court to compel the Finance Minister to present the Ghana Financial Stability Fund (GFSF) to Parliament for a comprehensive examination.

The filed writ states, “Declaration that the establishment of the Ghana Financial Stability Fund (GFSF) through administrative fiat issued by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning is illegal and unconstitutional, as it violates the provisions of articles 175, 176, 178, and one 179 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.”

The lawmaker further requests a declaration that the “Ministry of Finance’s use of opaque and unscrutinized mechanisms for the administration and disbursement of funds from the GFSF, without the necessary authorization by an express Act of Parliament, is a clear disregard for the 1992 constitution of Ghana, as outlined in articles 175, 176, 178, and one 179.”

He earlier petitioned the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), not to lend their support to the Ghana Financial Stability Fund (GFSF).

Mr Ayariga indicated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank will be acting in clear violation of the Constitution of Ghana of 1992 “if they lend their support to this arrangement or are in anyway party to it.”

“Article 192 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana states categorically that a “public corporation shall not be established except by an Act of Parliament.” Article 179 recognizes the setting up of public corporations as commercial ventures.  The current arrangement by which the Government of Ghana seeks to use NTHC Ltd to ho

ld shares in GAT for a commercial venture offends the Constitutional requirement, which vests Government with the authority to only engage in a commercial venture through the medium of a public corporation enacted by an Act of Parliament,” he added.

Shakira wins big at Latin Grammys, award presented by Sergio Ramos

Colombian artist Shakira emerged victorious at this year’s Latin Grammys, securing top honors, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Song for “Shakira: Bzrp Music Session, Vol 53,” a collaboration with Argentinian producer J Bizarrap.

Notably, the track includes references to her former partner, footballer Gerard Pique.

In a noteworthy twist, Shakira received the award from Sergio Ramos, her former Spanish international teammate and a defender for the arch-rivals of Pique’s Barcelona, Real Madrid.

In her speech, Shakira thanked fans for being with her through “difficult moments”, widely thought to be a reference to her split with Pique, and dedicated the award to the “Spanish public”.

Shakira, 46, and Pique, the ex-Barcelona defender, ended their over 11-year relationship in 2022. The former couple shares two children. Pique, 36, subsequently entered into a relationship with Clara Chia, then 23 years old.

In the track, she raps lines such as, “I’m worth two 22-year-olds”, “you swapped a Ferrari for a Twingo” and “a She-Wolf like me isn’t for rookies”.

Actress and former Angel TV presenter, Xandy Kamel, revealed in a candid interview with Delay that she experienced only five minutes of happiness during her previous marriage to Nana Kwaku Mensah, also known as King Kaninja.

In an interview with Delay, Xandy Kamel disclosed that she took on the financial responsibility for the entire marriage, including covering the costs of utilities in their home.

When questioned by Delay about her happiness in the marriage, Xandy Kamel dismissed the notion, stating, “I was happy for only 5 minutes.”

Delay probed further, seeking signs that indicated trouble in her marriage. Xandy Kamel pointed to issues such as poor communication and a lack of intimacy as contributing factors to the challenges she faced in her relationship.

“When we go to work, we are active, but when we get home, we are just on our phones. There was no communication, no fun moments, etc.

“Even during Valentine, I had to beg him to get me something, even if it were chocolates. He rather went to get us pork and coke. But to me, it meant a lot because at least he showed love,” she said.

When asked if she attempted to fix any of these issues in her marriage with Kaninja, she affirmed, saying, “Whenever I brought up these issues, he would reply that he never went to a school of romance. We hardly even kissed, even when we had sex, I had to initiate first.”

Isaac Dogboe falls to Nick Ball in final eliminator

Ghanaian boxer Isaac Dogboe’s aspirations for a shot at the WBC featherweight title took a blow with his defeat to Nick Ball in the final eliminator held in Manchester.

Dogboe experienced a unanimous defeat, as all three judges scored in favor of Ball with scores of 116-111, 118-109, and 119-108.

Having aimed for an opportunity to challenge Rey Vargas, the current titleholder who has yet to defend the belt since defeating Mark Magsayo in July 2022, Dogboe’s setback means that Ball now stands a chance to face Vargas.

On the other hand, Dogboe, with four losses to his name, must now regroup and strategize to make his way back to competing against the top fighters in his division.

“I’m feeling good, it was a good performance from myself. I had to keep my cool in there and control the fight,” Ball said after the fight, as quoted by Bad Left Hook. “I feel like I’ve just controlled that fight at world level. I’ve just put myself in position (to fight for a world title).”

From the outset, Ball asserted dominance in the fight, although Dogboe showcased occasional moments of strength and sharpness.

In his recent attempt to secure a world title, Dogboe faced defeat to Robeisy Ramirez just last month.

Over the course of the last five years, the 1.57m boxer has suffered three losses to opponents with a height advantage. This series of setbacks includes consecutive defeats against Emmanuel Navarrete in the WBO Junior Lightweight division, followed by a loss to Ramirez in the quest for the WBO Featherweight title.

Mahama’s decision to scrap teacher licensure exams commonsensical, justified – Clement Apaak

Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has expressed his support for former President Mahama’s decision to review the Free Senior High School (SHS) program and cancel the nationwide teacher licensure examination.

According to the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, various stakeholders in Ghana’s education sector are in favor of reevaluating the Free SHS program and discontinuing the teacher licensure examination.

Despite resistance from government, Dr. Apaak believes that the promises made by Mr Mahama are sensible, justified, and will be implemented if he assumes the presidency.

“JM is not opposed to examining teachers as a basis of certifying them as professionals. However, like teacher trainees and stakeholders in teacher training, JM is opposed to the current arrangement towards certification. His reasonable alternative is to make the examination towards professional certification a final-year compulsory course to be written alongside other final-year courses.”

“In JM’s variant, when a teacher trainee passes all final year courses, including the course tailored to certify a trainee as a professional teacher, the trainee is given a licence. If the trainee passes all courses but fails the certification course, he/she doesn’t get a licence and would have to re-register the course and write it in his/her college as is the case with final year compulsory courses,” he added.

Dr. Apaak made these comments in response to Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. John Ntim Fordjour’s criticism of the former president, where Fordjour described Mahama as the most significant threat to Ghana’s progress.

Dr. Apaak argued that Mr. Fordjour and the NPP government either lack an understanding of public sentiment or are out of touch with reality. He reiterated his support for Mahama’s proposed education policy reforms, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive review to address challenges within the education sector.

    Below is the full statement:

JM’s Promises To Review fSHS and To Cancel Teacher Lincensure Examination Make Sense

Every stakeholder in education in Ghana is in favor of reviewing the fSHS programme and the cancellation of the Teacher Lincensure examination, but NADAA, DMB, Hon. Fordjour and the NPP gov’t.

The promises made by JM are commonsensical, justified and will be implemented when he takes over as President.

Hon. Fordjour and the NPP gov’t are either out of touch with reality or haven’t followed public sentiments.

If JM has plans to cancel fSHS he wouldn’t be planning to invite stakeholders to a national forum to discuss fSHS.

JM has on several occasions said that fSHS has come to stay. Like most Ghanaians however, he is concerned about the well documented implementation challenges and how to address them to make the fSHS better for national good.

Ghanaians of all walks of life are calling for a review of the fSHS policy, which has been implemented for over six years, and JM will honour this call because the fSHS programme is challenged by: erratic academic calendar; inadequate and unwholesome food; inadequate academic and residential space; overworked teaching and non-teaching staff amongst others.

Equally, JM’s proposed forum on fSHS will also consider the role of PTA’s and private secondary schools in the delivery of the policy.

JM is not opposed to examining teachers as a basis of certifying them as professionals.

However, like teacher trainees and stakeholders in teacher training, JM is opposed to the current arrangement towards certification.

His reasonable alternative is to make the examination towards professional certification a final-year compulsory course to be written alongside other final-year courses.

In JM’s variant, when a teacher trainee passes all final year courses, including the course tailored to certify a trainee as a professional teacher, the trainee is given a licence.

If the trainee passes all courses but fails the certification course, he/she doesn’t get a licence and would have to re-register the course and write it in his/her college as is the case with final year compulsory courses.

This mode of teacher certification in addition to JM’s promise to cancel the one-year compulsory national service, which is currently an additional requirement for appointment as a teacher by the Ghana Education Service, has additional advantages.

Under JM’s proposal, teacher trainees who pass all courses, including the certification course, are immediately posted to the classroom; no wasting a year doing national service and no need to pay, after national service, to write a licensure examination.

We can certify our teacher trainees to professional teachers and deploy them in the classrooms sooner, where they are most needed, through a cheaper, simplified yet rigorous process.

Ashanti Regional jurors call off strike after engagement with CJ

Jurors in the Ashanti region have decided to end their strike after a meeting with Chief Justice Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The jurors, who had been absent from court proceedings since November 6, were seeking the payment of their 15-month allowance arrears.

Following the meeting at the Court of Appeal complex in Kumasi, Justice Torkornoo acknowledged the common occurrence of delayed allowances in the public service. She assured the jurors that proactive measures would be taken to prevent undue delays in the future.

“While it is not unusual for allowances in public service to come late, we will take steps to do whatever we need to do to make sure that we don’t allow it to come later,” the Chief Justice assured.

Justice Torkornoo appealed to the jurors to consider their larger responsibility to the country and continue serving to facilitate the expeditious delivery of justice.

She emphasized the need for a balanced perspective, urging them to think about the impact on remanded prisoners, the costs associated with bringing people to court, and the challenges faced by those on bail.

“For those of you who work in the public sector, you’re receiving your salaries. Ghana is paying you for whichever institution you’re working in, then Ghana will give you more money for coming here, and you say you won’t come here because your allowance has been delayed? I put it to you that this is not fair,” Justice Torkornoo remarked.

“Think of the remanded prisoners. Think of the cost of bringing people to court. Think of those who are on bail, the trauma of having to keep coming to court. Think of all these people. So, come back to work tomorrow,” she added.

After the engagement, Albert Ackah, the Foreman General of jurors in Ashanti, expressed satisfaction with the Chief Justice’s commitment to ensuring the timely payment of allowances.

He stated, “We have agreed to resume our services.”

“We are excited about her resolve to ensure our allowances are paid on time. This was what we were expecting long ago. For travelling all the way to Kumasi to engage us, that alone is a relief. So on Monday, we are coming to court.”

One dead after truck runs into Suame Divisional Police Headquarters

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, a Kia Rhino truck crashed into the Suame Divisional Police Headquarters in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the death of an unidentified woman in her mid-40s.

The victim, who reportedly lost both legs in the fatal accident, was pronounced dead at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The unfortunate event also left one baby critically injured. The truck, with registration number AC-850-17, collided with three parked cars at the Police Headquarters.

According to eyewitness Kwadwo Asirifii, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a brake pad malfunction, leading to the tragic incident.

“The truck was heading towards Offinso from Accra when it veered off the road in a reversed manner, the woman who had just stepped out of a commercial bus was crushed by the car immediately after the commercial bus left the scene”.

“The truck subsequently crushed into a gutter and later into the police Headquarters’ fence wall before it eventually clashed with three cars parked on the station’s compound,” he said.

  • Nacee explains why condoms will be shared at Kavod Concert 2023

Nacee explains why condoms will be shared at Kavod Concert 2023

Gospel singer and record producer Nacee has provided an explanation for having a condom company as a sponsor for his maiden concert, Kavod.

According to him, women who are allergic to certain contraceptive pills might prefer condoms as a viable option to prevent pregnancy.

In an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, Nacee emphasized the importance of promoting condom use during sex, particularly among couples, and highlighted that Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO), the producer of Ebony Condoms, is sponsoring his concert for this reason.

“Females are very sensitive beings. God created you guys differently, and your hormonal balance is kind of totally different. Most of you are not okay with those contraceptive pills when you take them. Most women don’t like it. Some complain that when they take it, they begin to gain weight, and some of them also have reactions after taking it. Married people sometimes want to stay away from pregnancy. So, even if you’re married and you have reactions after taking contraceptives, the only thing that you can use to prevent the pregnancy that you’re not ready for is a condom,” he said.

Nacee emphasized that having a sponsor like the condom company at his event helps promote the company’s products and generate profit, enabling employees and employers to contribute through tithes in church.

He acknowledged the importance of promoting the Kingdom of God while highlighting that financial resources are crucial to advancing the agenda.

According to Nacee, regardless of one’s business activities, God accepts their tithes.

“At the end of the day, we need money to push the kingdom. We buy Bibles,” he said.

Asked whether condoms will be shared at the event grounds, he replied, “I’m sure the company will provide some giveaways.”

The Kavod Concert 2023 marks the inaugural event by Nacee Music, celebrating his journey in gospel music over the years. The choice of the name “Kavod” was significant, as it reflects the attribute of God that they wanted to emphasize during the event.

Kavod, meaning ‘The terrifying glory of God,’ was selected after careful deliberations. The concert, scheduled for November 26 at the National Theatre, is a blend of music and drama.

It features comedians such as Clemento Suarez, Fuasta Romanus, and other gospel musicians, creating an entertaining and spiritually uplifting experience.

National cathedral: Eastwood Anaba, Duncan-Williams joined with a pure heart, never took allowance – Ablakwa

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the two top clergymen, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba, who recently resigned from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, served on the board for free.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on November 16, 2023, Mr Ablakwa emphasized that both pastors joined the board with sincere intentions and without any ulterior motives.

He stated that he personally spoke to the pastors, and Rev. Eastwood Anaba admitted that they should have heeded his earlier warnings against the controversial National Cathedral project.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, North Tongu MP

“Yes, I have spoken to all of them. Rev. Eastwood Anaba is my pastor, so we talk always, and I can’t lie about this. He said, ‘Young man, we should have listened to you earlier. You saw things that we saw later’,” he said.

He added, “And to be fair to them, to be honest to them, they went into this with a very pure heart, I know and I can confirm to you today that these two Rev. Eastwood Anaba and Archbishop Duncan-Williams never took an allowance. So, sometimes when I see people say that they should also refund the money and that, they are not been fair to them I have the records.”

The two pastors, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba, resigned from their positions as members of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral.

In a joint statement addressed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the clergymen cited growing concerns about transparency and accountability within the National Cathedral project as the reason for their resignation.

“Despite our prayers, best hopes and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge. Since January 2023, we have awaited news, to no avail, regarding the findings of the audit. We, therefore, regret that as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral,” the statement said.

The pastors emphasized that their decision to resign should not be interpreted as a challenge to the vision or intent of the National Cathedral project.

“We honourably assure you, as we assured the Board of Trustees in January 2023, with the submission of our resignation, that our action in no way impugns the vision or intent of the National Cathedral, but rather ensures that it is advanced and built on a foundation of integrity, efficiency and quality while gaming and maintaining public trust and support, We truly owe this to God and to country,” the statement added.

La General Hospital project on life support – Minority Chief Whip

Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has cast aspersion on the government’s capability to complete the La General Hospital project.

In his remarks to journalists, he insisted on the government’s inability to fully finance and finish the project, despite the assurances provided.

During the presentation of the 2024 budget statement on November 15, 2023, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced that the project’s contractor would commence work the following week.

Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu also disclosed that the government had secured €50 million in local funds for the restoration of La General Hospital.

But Agbodza reacting to it said “I am extremely angry that the Finance Minister did not say anything about the suspension of the Bank of Ghana headquarters and pumping that money into the La General Hospital. Now that they are claiming the La General Hospital will cost 50 million Euros, we could have taken part of the 250 million dollars meant for the BoG head office and injected it into the completion of the La General Hospital. We all know that when they say a project is under Government of Ghana support, it means it’s under life support. I don’t foresee the government having 50 million Euros easily to pump into that project,” he said.

In July 2020, the La General Hospital was demolished due to severe structural issues. Subsequently, President Akufo-Addo initiated the La General Hospital Redevelopment Project with a groundbreaking ceremony on August 10, 2020. However, construction has not commenced as of now.

Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has blamed the delay in the reconstruction of the La General Hospital in Accra on the withholding of funds by the sponsors of the facility.

New Apremdo Court inaugurated by Justice Torkonoo

Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo has unveiled the new court built for the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly at Apremdo, as part of activities marking the new legal year.

She called on staff of the Judicial Service to make the courthouse welcoming and reassuring to bruised individuals.

She said, “The courthouse is comparable to hospitals, people come here because they are in dire need of care, be it emotional, psychological and social…ours it to soothe their pain and not to bruise their wounds with unwanted behaviours.”

The Apremdo Court is among the 100 new courthouses pledged by President Akufo-Addo, aiming to enhance accessibility to justice for Ghanaians.

The Chief Justice emphasized that the court, along with laws, serves as tools and assets crucial for maintaining order, providing direction, and ensuring justice satisfaction to foster prosperity and development.

She also urged the Service to adhere to all ethical codes of conduct in their work.

Chief Justice Torkonoo said, “As public officers, we are paid for the work we do, and it is high time we advance honest, fair and transparent justice system devoid of extortion of monies from clients to retain confidence in the justice system of the country.”

She commended the President for his commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals 10 and 16, emphasizing equality, peace, and justice. Encouraging citizens to actively follow up on their cases and engage with judges for better understanding, she highlighted the significance of the court in promoting democracy, law, and order.

Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, underscored the courthouse as the last resort for individuals seeking justice and emphasized its critical role in entrenching democracy, law, order, and development. The minister reiterated the government’s dedication to the rule of law through improved access to justice, urging users to contribute to maintaining the facility.

Nana Egya Kwamena XI, the Divisional Chief of Apremdo, acknowledged that the establishment of the EKMA courts has decentralized and improved the administration of justice in the municipality.

Everton lose 10 points for breaching Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules

Everton have immediately been docked ten points for violating the profit and sustainability regulations of the Premier League.

With a new total of four points, Everton is now ranked 19th in the table following the largest sporting sanction in the competition’s history.

The club said it was “both shocked and disappointed” by the “wholly disproportionate and unjust” ruling.

Everton has announced its intention to appeal the decision. The club was referred to an independent commission in March, and although specific details of the breach were not disclosed, Everton reported a £44.7 million deficit for the 2021-22 season.

Premier League regulations allow clubs to incur losses of up to £105 million over a three-year period, and Everton acknowledged a breach for the period ending in 2021-22. The independent commission ruled in favor of the Premier League, determining Everton’s losses amounted to £124.5 million during that period.

  • NPP will lose 2024 elections to the NDC – EIU, Fitch Solutions project

NPP will lose 2024 elections to the NDC – EIU, Fitch Solutions project

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and Fitch Solutions, two UK-based research firms, are both predicting a victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former President John Mahama in the upcoming 2024 Presidential elections.

The EIU forecasts a transfer of power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) which will be represented by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, its flagbearer, to the NDC.

This shift, according to the EIU, will be driven by factors such as declining living standards, limited job opportunities, and poor public services.

Fitch Solutions also suggests that the ruling party is unlikely to retain power, with former President Mahama expected to secure victory in the swing regions by nearly 48 percent compared to Vice President Bawumia’s 29%.

According to BMI, a Fitch Solutions company, the NPP is unlikely to stay in power after the 2024 election. Data from Global Info Analytics and their own sources indicate that the NDC is ahead of the NPP in the Volta-Oti regions, Northern regions, swing regions, and Akan regions.

The EIU report forecasts that the Ghanaian cedi will regain some of its lost value following a debt restructuring deal and is expected to end 2024 below 12 cedis to the dollar.

The report indicates that in 2024, about nine African countries will hold elections, with incumbent regimes expected to prevail in most cases, but there is a heightened risk of reduced parliamentary majorities.

According to the EIU, Ghana is likely to witness a transfer of power from the ruling NPP to the NDC, driven by factors such as declining living standards, limited job opportunities, and poor public services.

The report also predicts that inflation will ease in most African countries in 2024, but some major economies, including Ghana, will continue to experience double-digit inflation.

  • Ghana’s external debt exchange agreement to be done before end of 2023 – Fitch

Ghana’s external debt exchange agreement to be done before end of 2023 – Fitch

Fitch Solutions has suggested that Ghana is likely to experience positive developments in negotiations with its bilateral debt creditors before the end of the year.

The UK-based firm believes that the worst is behind the country as it has made progress with fiscal consolidation and other macroeconomic indicators.

Additionally, Fitch Solutions anticipates that Ghana will reach an agreement with its external bondholders by the middle of next year. The firm notes that Ghana, not being a large creditor like Zambia, is expected to face fewer difficulties in reaching a deal with its creditors.

“Our view as Ghana will make progress regarding the restructuring….very quickly with some positive development expected before the end of 2023. Bilateral debt as a share of total external debt in Ghana is very low and Ghana is not a bigger creditor like Zambia”.

“So the dynamics should speed up negotiations process with the official creditors”, he added.

Mr. Kruiniger clarified that investor sentiment in Ghana is anticipated to improve following the positive developments with its bilateral creditors in the context of debt restructuring.

“Positive signaling regarding a debt restructuring due between Ghana and its bilateral creditors should then improve investors’ sentiment, increase demand for the cedi and allow the exchange rate to plow back some of its losses”.

He added, however, that Ghana’s negotiations with external bondholders will likely take longer, as they hold approximately 60% of the country’s total external debt.

“I think it is the negotiations of Ghana’s bondholders that are going to take longer given that the commercial debt constitutes more than 60% of total external debt and most of this is in the form of Eurobonds.

“So our view is that Ghana will be able to reach a deal with the external bondholders most likely by mid-2024”, Mr. Kruiniger alluded.

We should focus on amplifying the strengths and not the negatives – E.L

Ghanaian artist Elorm Adablah, known as E.L, has expressed concern over the prevalent negativity directed at musicians in Ghana.

He highlighted that the consistent criticism from certain sections of the public hampers the growth of the music industry.

E.L criticized individuals who often compare the Ghanaian music industry unfavorably to those of other African countries, emphasizing the negative impact on artists and industry players.

He urged Ghanaians to shift their focus to the positive aspects of the music industry and refrain from harshly criticizing artists when issues arise.

“I don’t know if it’s a Ghanaian thing, but we tend to focus on the negative. We tend to amplify the negative. What haven’t we got or what hasn’t he or she done? And I think that’s something that affects us very much in this industry.

“We are a small market, but I think we have capabilities that are not present in any other parts of Africa. So we should focus on our strengths. And I think that will help us to transcend to the next level. We are a little hard on ourselves. We tend to bash each other so much more than we tend to try to uplift,” he said.

E.L continued: “I don’t know if you’d agree with this, but we tend to focus more on what we’re not doing than what we are doing as creatives, as artistes. We’re in an industry where comparison is high. We look at what all these people are doing.”

Black Stars face Madagascar today to begin 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Ghana will start the qualifying series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday, November 17, against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium at 4pm.

This game is crucial for coach Chris Hughton to overcome a challenging month that has raised questions about his future.

This comes a month after disappointing performances against Mexico and the United States, but the Black Stars now have an opportunity to regain the support of Ghanaians.

This match marks the third meeting in the past year between Ghana and Madagascar, following their encounters in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana won the first game 3-0, with goals from Mohammed Kudus, Felix Afena-Gyan, and Osman Bukari. However, the return fixture in Madagascar ended in a goalless draw, and Ghana later secured qualification to the AFCON in Ivory Coast by topping the group.

Given the surprises in the second day of the African qualifiers for the World Cup, Hughton is aiming for a positive outcome against Madagascar to avoid a situation similar to Nigeria, who failed to win their first game against Lesotho at home.

Hughton emphasized the importance of the match in a press conference.

“I am very aware of how important these two games are. I know we have the AFCON tournament in January but at this moment all our concentration is on these two very important fixtures.”

“I know what they really mean to the members of the squad and for those that we work for,” he told the media.

Andre Ayew is set to make a return to Ghana’s squad after missing last month’s international break, although it remains uncertain whether the captain will secure a place in the starting lineup. The team faces a significant setback with the absence of Thomas Partey.

Coach Chris Hughton has the challenge of selecting players for the starting lineup, with Abdul Mumin and Kamaldeen Sulemana in excellent form. The addition of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, performing well at Leicester City, provides additional options for the team.

Madagascar’s Tsiry Tokinantenaina and Jean Yves Razafindrakoto, both scorers in the previous match against Benin, are likely to retain their positions in the starting lineup for this fixture.
