The prime minister of Poland claims that more than 100 members of the Russian mercenary group Wagner are marching towards a narrow strip of land separating Poland from Lithuania and has issued a warning that they may attempt to enter the border by pretending to be migrants.
Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime minister of Poland, stated on Saturday that his country had learned that the Wagner mercenaries were not far from Grodno, a city in western Belarus close to the Suwalki gap or corridor.
Following a failed military rebellion in Russia, thousands of Wagner soldiers are reportedly in Belarus.
Morawiecki reiterated claims that Belarus, a significant supporter of Russia, has been directing migrants towards the west in an effort to overwhelm Polish border guards.
According to Morawiecki, the troop moves appeared to be another component of this attempt to weaken the border.
In addition to helping illegal immigrants enter Polish territory and destabilising Poland, he predicted that they would likely pose additional hazards by trying to infiltrate Poland under the garb of illegal immigration.
According to Morawiecki, there have been over 16,000 attempts by migrants to cross the border illegally so far this year after being “pushed to Poland” by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Wagner has not responded to the reports, so it is unclear exactly what his forces are doing in Grodno. However, the stationing of Russian allies close to the Suwalki corridor would be an escalation that would alarmed NATO and EU members.
Despite being only 60 miles long, the corridor is crucial from a strategic perspective for NATO, the EU, Russia, and Belarus. The border region is the only overland connection between the Baltic states and the rest of the EU and links the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad to Belarus.
In the early stages of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, analysts worried that Moscow would strike the Suwalki corridor in an effort to defend Kaliningrad, its westernmost province and the only region of the nation that is encircled by EU nations.
The precise number of Wagner forces in Belarus is unknown. As part of an agreement made by the president of Belarus to put an end to the mercenary group’s violent uprising against the Kremlin last month, they were invited to the nation.
Wagner was then requested by Lukashenko to assist with military training. The two intend to conduct combined military drills close to Poland’s border, which is likely to exacerbate existing tensions.
At a conference, Lukashenko made fun of Russian President Putin by saying that the Wagner fighters had started to worry him because they wanted to go on “an excursion” in the west.
Despite claiming that its borders are secure, Poland has shifted its troops east because of potential Wagnerian threats.
Following the overthrow of Niger’s democratically elected president by a coup, France and the EU have stopped providing financial assistance to the West African nation.
The former colonial power of Niger, France, added to the growing international pressure on the coup plotters by calling for the “immediate return to the Nigerien constitutional order” in a statement.
The action was taken shortly after the European Union said earlier on Saturday that it would no longer be providing financial support and cease any security cooperation with Niger. One of the poorest nations in the world, Niger receives aid worth hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
After President Mohamed Bazoum was detained earlier this week, Abdourahamane Tiani, a general who oversees the nation’s presidential guard, was sworn in as the new president.
According to Josep Borell, head of foreign affairs for the EU, “this unacceptable attack on the integrity of Niger’s republican institutions will not remain without consequences for the partnership and cooperation between the European Union and Niger, in all its various aspects.”
“President Bazoum was democratically chosen and is still Niger’s only legal leader. He must be released immediately and without conditions.
The release of Bazoum has been demanded by leaders from Washington to Moscow, but to no avail.
The Nigerien military was ordered to “immediately and unconditionally return to their barracks and restore constitutional authority” by the African Union on Saturday. If the rights of political detainees are not protected, the AU threatened to “take necessary action, including punitive measures against the perpetrators.”
If the Economic Community of West African States decides to impose penalties against Niger, both Borell and French President Emmanuel Macron stated that they would be ready to support them.
It is unknown to what extent those aiming to grab power would be influenced by foreign pressure.
An aide who supported the ousted president told CNN that the conspirators were fighting among themselves. The military of Niger has supported the coup, though.
The Sahel region of Africa, which includes Mali and Burkina Faso, has experienced multiple power grabs recently. Niger is located in the centre of this region.
Hours after Moscow accused Kyiv of using drones to target Moscow, the Kremlin said that war is “gradually returning” to Russia. This accusation was the latest in a string of attacks, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
A corporate and shopping complex in the west of the capital was targeted, according to the Russian Defence Ministry, despite the fact that three drones were intercepted on Sunday. No injuries were recorded, but a 50-story building’s fifth and sixth floors were damaged, according to state news agency TASS.
Videos of the incident showed both emergency services and debris.
Zelensky stated in his daily presentation that “Ukraine is strengthening and the war is gradually returning to Russia’s territory, to its symbolic centres and military bases.” “This is a natural, inevitable, and completely just.”
According to a spokeswoman for the Ukrainian Air Force, the recent drone assaults on Moscow were intended to shock Russians who had become complacent following the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
In Russia and Moscow, something is always in the air. According to the spokeswoman, Yurii Ihnat, who appeared on Ukrainian television, “now the war is affecting those who were not concerned.”
“Something does hit, no matter how much the Russian authorities would like to pretend they have intercepted everything.”
Unmanned aerial vehicles are being used more frequently by the Ukrainian military for purposes other than surveillance.
There will be more drone strikes in the future, according to Ukrainian Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, whose Digital Transformation Ministry is in charge of the nation’s “Army of Drones” acquisition strategy. Kyiv is stepping up a summer counteroffensive to drive Russian forces off Ukrainian land.
This week’s first objective was Moscow. An attack on two non-residential structures, including one close to the Ministry of Defence headquarters, was blamed on Ukraine on Monday. Russia referred to that occurrence as a “terrorist attack,” despite the fact that its military interventions in Ukraine frequently result in civilian casualties.
At least two civilians were murdered and 20 others were hurt in a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy late on Saturday. Two more were killed in a rocket attack on Zaporizhzhia.
Over the weekend, heavy bombardments had been used in both regions. While a military official in Zaporizhzhia claimed Russian forces had launched 77 attacks on 20 communities around the region, damaging 31 homes and other infrastructure, Ukrainian officials in Sumy reported 25 incidences of shelling in a single day.
Residents of the Russian capital are uneasy despite the fact that there were allegedly no injuries or fatalities as a result of the strikes in Moscow.
One person who saw the attack on Sunday described how it disrupted some downtime that was scheduled.
“My friends and I had rented an apartment to relax here, and at some point, there was an explosion; it was like a wave, and everyone jumped,” she told Reuters. You couldn’t see anything because of the thick smoke. Fire was visible from above.
On Sunday, Ukrainian drones also attacked the Crimean Peninsula that Russia has annexed.
The land that Moscow illegitimately acquired from Ukraine in 2014 was intercepted by 25 unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the Russian Defence Ministry, 16 of which were shot down.
According to the ministry, the other nine aircraft crashed into the Black Sea as a result of electronic warfare equipment jamming their signals. Although there don’t seem to have been any casualties.
On Friday, Russia claimed to have shot down a Ukrainian missile over Taganrog, a city in southern Russia. Regarding the incident, which appears to be a rare instance of Ukraine firing missiles inside Russian territory, Ukraine made no comments.
Paul Adom-Otchere, the host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show, recently recounted a meeting he had with Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former sanitation minister, and her husband at their residence in Accra. This meeting took place amidst controversy surrounding missing funds from her home.
According to Paul, he was specially invited by the former minister to her house, and they met during the day before his appearance on the July 27 edition of his show. During the meeting, one of the main topics discussed was the reports that the Office of the Special Prosecutor had conducted a five-hour search at her residence earlier that week, allegedly leading to the discovery of a fresh stash of money.
Paul asked Mrs. Dapaah about the search and whether this was the entirety of her house, to which she responded, questioning the existence of any five-hour search.
He continued to describe the meeting, mentioning that the house was built in 1976, and the Dapaahs had been living there since then. He also made a remark about the OSP, accusing them of arresting the former minister and showcasing photos and videos of her residence during the search – an allegation that the OSP denied.
During the encounter, Paul mentioned that despite facing challenges, Cecilia Dapaah was in high spirits. He shared a touching moment where the 84-year-old husband blessed him genuinely, and despite being offered food, he politely declined, appreciating her positive demeanor even in troubled times.
The encounter shed some light on the situation, but the controversy surrounding the missing funds from the former minister’s home continues to be a matter of public interest.
The Colombian attorney general‘s office announced in a statement that the president of Colombia’s son has been detained as part of an investigation into money laundering and illegal enrichment.
The attorney general’s office opened an investigation into Nicolas Petro, a congressman from the Atlantico province, in early March over claims that he had accepted money from drug traffickers in exchange for including them in his father’s efforts to mediate peace talks with criminal organisations in the Caribbean, according to CNN at the time.
Petro previously refuted the allegations, calling them nothing more than political and personal attacks meant to discredit the achievements of his career, he said in a statement on March 2.
President of Colombia Gustavo Petro expressed his “hurt” at hearing of his son’s detention but promised that the legal process will be followed in the prosecution of the case.
“So much self-destruction and having one of my children go to prison hurts me deeply as a human and as a father. The prosecution has my full assurance that it may proceed legally, as President of the Republic, Petro said on Saturday in his official Twitter account.
Petro continued by wishing his son “luck and strength” and reiterating his resolve to remain neutral and avoid interfering with the attorney general’s investigation.
At the time, the president welcomed the inquiry and asked the attorney general to look into the claims made against his son.
Daysuris del Carmen Vásquez Castro, Nicolas Petro’s ex-wife, also has a warrant out for her arrest “for the crimes of money laundering and violation of personal data for events that occurred from 2022 to date,” according to a statement released by the attorney general’s office on Saturday.
“Those who have been apprehended will be given to a Municipal Criminal Judge with the Function of Guarantee Control, who will be asked to certify the legitimacy of the search, capture, and seizure procedures of significant pieces of evidence. Charges will be filed in the same manner for the aforementioned crimes, and a measure limiting freedom will be requested, according to the statement.
El Roi Haiti, the Christian humanitarian relief organisation for which the nurse works, reports that an American nurse and her child have been kidnapped in Haiti.
A posting on El Roi Haiti’s website claims that Sandro Dorsainvil’s wife Alix and their young child were kidnapped on Thursday morning.
According to the post, the two were photographed as they participated in their community mission on the campus of El Roi Haiti close to Port-au-Prince.
The Haitian people are Alix’s friends and family, and she considers Haiti to be her home. Alix is a genuinely caring and kind person. The statement read, “Alix has worked tirelessly as our school and community nurse to alleviate the suffering of those who are in need because she loves and serves the people of Haiti in the name of Jesus.
According to a video on the organization’s website, Dorsainvil, a former nurse from New Hampshire, relocated to Haiti when her husband asked her to help out at a school there.
According to a statement made to CNN by a State Department official, US authorities are aware of the kidnappings and are cooperating with Haitian authorities and U.S. government interagency partners.
The spokeswoman stated that the safety and security of American people abroad is of the utmost importance to the U.S. Department of State and our embassies and consulates worldwide.
The defence minister of Italy referred to his country’s choice to join a major Chinese infrastructure project as “wicked,” as the government considers whether to keep participating in the project.
Guido Crosetto claimed that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which Italy signed up for under its former government, has not done anything to boost the nation’s exports in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper that was published on Sunday.
Beijing’s international infrastructure investment programme is known as the BRI, a term established by China‘s Xi Jinping in 2013. It was created to recreate China’s Silk Road, which linked Asia with Africa and Europe in order to boost trade and economic development.
Each year, the effort has seen billions of dollars poured into infrastructure projects, including the construction of ports from Sri Lanka to West Africa, the paving of motorways from Papua New Guinea to Kenya, and the provision of power and telecoms infrastructure for people in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Critics claim that China is using the BRI to increase its global influence.
Italy joined the BRI in 2019 and is the only major Western nation and the only advanced economy from the G7.
“The decision to join the Silk Road was an improvised and wicked act, made by the government of Giuseppe Conte, which resulted in a double negative outcome,” Crosetto told the Corriere della Sera.
“We shipped a lot of oranges to China, whose exports to Italy have increased threefold in the last three years. The most absurd thing at the time was that Paris sold jets to Beijing for tens of billions of dollars without ever signing a treaty.
He stated that the current issue is how Italy may leave the BRI without hurting its relationship with Beijing. Beijing was referred to by him as “a competitor, but also a partner.”
The BRI membership of Italy will end in 2024. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asserted earlier this year that “good relations” with China could exist independently of the plan.
Police reported that a suicide bomber struck a political convention hosted by an Islamist party in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing at least 44 people.
The attack on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) party members who had congregated in the town of Khar, Bajaur district, close to the Afghan border, resulted in more than 100 injuries, including 17 critical ones.
According to local authorities, the assailant set off explosives close to the convention’s stage.
The attack’s first perpetrator has not been identified. However, the local ISIS branch has already targeted JUI-F party officials because they view them as heretics.
The incident was “strongly condemned” by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to a statement issued by his office.
The statement continued, “An investigation is currently being conducted, and the prime minister’s office has asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for a report.”
In a statement made public by his press office, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the party’s head, expressed “deep sorrow and regret” in the wake of the explosion.
“Peace be upon JUI workers,” the message concluded. “The injured should receive the best care possible from the federal and provincial governments.”
More than 500 individuals were reportedly present at the event when the blast took place, according to a witness.
Rahim Shah told Pakistani news agency Dawn, “A strong blast knocked me unconscious.
He claimed that when he turned around, “people were screaming and even shots were fired,” and that there was blood all over the place.
Ahead of elections later this year, Pakistani political groups are starting their campaigns.

In our fast-paced, technology-driven modern world, a significant portion of our day is often spent sitting, whether it’s at the office or while working remotely from home. However, we may not often pause to consider how this prolonged sitting impacts our spine and overall health.
The reality is that our daily work habits can have a negative impact on our spine, potentially leading to discomfort and even long-term health issues. Research has highlighted that extended periods of sitting are associated with an increased risk of diabetes and heart-related problems. Additionally, sitting for prolonged hours can lead to nerve constriction, back pain, and compression of organs, which may result in digestive problems.
Recognizing the importance of adopting proper sitting postures, it becomes crucial in supporting our spine’s health and ensuring a productive and pain-free workday. By understanding and practicing correct sitting positions, we can alleviate strain on our spine and promote overall well-being.
In this context, we will delve into the best postures to adopt while sitting throughout the day and provide practical tips to maintain a healthy spine, enabling us to navigate our work routines with greater comfort and care for our well-being.
1. Ergonomic Chair Setup: Choose an ergonomic chair with proper lumbar support and adjust the height so that your feet rest flat on the floor and your knees are at a 90-degree angle. Ensure your lower back is supported to maintain the natural curve of your spine.
2. Maintain Proper Posture: Sit up straight with your shoulders relaxed and your back against the chair. Avoid slouching or leaning forward excessively, as this can strain your spine and lead to discomfort.
3. Take Breaks to Move: Stand up and stretch or walk around for a few minutes every hour. This helps alleviate pressure on the spine and promotes blood circulation, reducing the risk of stiffness and pain.
4. Use a Lumbar Roll or Pillow: If your chair lacks proper lumbar support, consider using a lumbar roll or pillow to fill the gap between your lower back and the chair. This helps maintain the natural curve of your spine and reduces strain.
5. Adjust Monitor and Keyboard Height: Ensure your computer monitor is at eye level, and your keyboard is at elbow height. This helps you maintain a neutral neck and wrist position, preventing strain on your spine and upper body.
Remember, even with good posture, sitting for extended periods can be detrimental to your spine’s health. Incorporate regular breaks, stretching, and standing into your routine to promote a healthy spine and overall well-being.
Controversial marriage counselor and show pundit Goerge Lutterodt has shared his thoughts on musician Black Sherif’s recent saga on Black Sherif and cruise people limited.
During his appearance on UTV’s Showbiz Night, show pundit, counselor Lutterodt, expressed his belief that musician Black Sherif is encountering demonic challenges in his career. Mr. Lutterodt further elaborated on his viewpoint, stating that the difficulties faced by the talented Konongo star boy are far from ordinary and, as such, he should seek support from his faith, which the counselor firmly believes in, to overcome these adversities.
“The challenges Black Sherif is facing aren’t normal, It could be a serious demonic attack on his career. His team does not seem to realize the severity of the issue but those on the other side see what is happening”
“Black Sherif and his team should seek refuge from the faith they believe in, whether in God, Allah, or whichever smaller deity they believe in because his career is under demonic attack”
“Black Sherif was aware of what the contract read and did not go according to it. This issue shouldn’t be taken for granted because his battling a demonic attack”
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has received yet another endorsement as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for its coming special delegates congress and the much anticipated presidential and parliamentary primaries.
Former PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed has described Dr Bawumia as one of the finest brains Ghana and the New Patriotic Party has been blessed with.
Atik Mohammed, contributing to Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, tagged Dr. Bawumia as a competent leader saying, “I trust in the competence of the Vice President. I do. You see circumstances may somewhat create impressions about what he could otherwise have done but you cannot take his competence away from him”.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is among the ten candidates vying for the position of flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party as the party gears up for its Special Delegates Congress on August 26 and main congress on November 4, 2023.
The Special Delegates Congress is to trim the number of the aspirants to five and the five compete in the main Congress.
Atik absolved the Vice President of blames that he being the Head of the Economic Management Team (EMT) is responsible for the economic woes visited upon Ghanaians as a result of financial misdirection.
He argued that Dr. Bawumia, although Head of the EMT, is somehow only a figurehead of the team and that when it comes to making financial decisions, the buck stops with the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
“The Finance Minister does not answer to him. He has answers to the President. The point I am trying to establish is he is not the Head of the EMT in the sense that he controls economic policy. He is just a part of a team; he happens to chair that team…The team itself answers to somebody. You report to someone. The Finance Minister is answerable to only one person who is the President,” he said.
After confessing to fabricating the kidnapping, a woman who claimed to have been abducted after spotting a young child on the side of the road was taken into custody.
After the dramatic events of the past two weeks, Carlee Russell of Hoover, Alabama, was detained and charged with filing a fraudulent incident report.
We are here today because, as we are all aware, actions can have consequences, according to Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis.
Her actions that evening “created panic and alarm for citizens of our city and even across the nation as concern grew that a kidnapper was on the run using a small child as bait,” according to the author.
Russell, 26, vanished on the evening of July 13 after making an unsettling 911 call. Russell claimed to have seen a young child standing by the side of the road wearing a nappy just before they vanished.
On the side of the road where the 911 call was made, investigators discovered her automobile. Her pocketbook, wig, and cell phone were all discovered nearby.
The sudden national attention that Russell’s disappearance garnered led to an extensive search.
But only 49 hours later, Russell was back at her parents’ house.
Russell claimed to have been kidnapped by a man who emerged from the nearby forest line after she had stopped to check on the toddler.
She said that a man and a woman had taken her prisoner, blindfolded her, and placed her inside an 18-wheeler semi truck. She also stated that she was naked when the incident occurred.
Investigators began to challenge her account, though, right away. ‘Unable to validate most of Carlee’s original statement,’ according to Hoover police on July 19, is what they claimed.
There was no sign of a toddler at the side of the road, according to the investigators who arrived on the site. They added that no other calls regarding the child that evening were made.
Russell acknowledged the allegation was untrue and apologised to the police in a statement on Monday, July 24.
No kidnapping occurred on July 13, 2023, according to her attorney Emory Anthony. My client claims that she did not notice a baby by the side of the road. When she was reported missing, my client remained in the Hoover region. This incident involved my client alone; she did not receive any assistance.
According to Chief Derzis, ‘many’ law enforcement agencies spent countless hours trying to find a kidnapper and a child that investigators now know never existed before the confession.
“We don’t think this is a crime with no victims,” Steve Marshall, the attorney general of Alabama, said. “This investigation resulted in significant hours and resource expenditures,” the statement reads.
“This story caused wounds for families whose loved ones were actually kidnapped; some of which even organised searches in hopes of finding Carlee alive so that her family would not have to go through the pain and suffering they felt when their loved ones never came home,” Derzis tacked on.
Russell was charged with two misdemeanours, each of which carries a potential punishment of $6,000 and a maximum prison term of one year.
Despite all the chaos and inconvenience Ms. Russell’s acts produced, Chief Derzis said: “I know many are shocked and appalled that Ms. Russell is only being charged with two misdemeanours.” “I empathise with your frustration. However, the charges that were filed were the only ones that could be made under the law.
Russell posted a $1,000 bond and was let out of jail the same day.

After the first act, Ato Whyte had series of unprotected sexual intercourse with the survivor

The complainant questioned the survivor to that effect and she revealed her ordeal to the complainant as stated above.
Madam Magaret reported the case to DOVVSU-Cape Coast against Ato Whyte. Where Police Medical Report Form was issued to the complainant to send the survivor to any Government Hospital for counseling, examination, treatment and report which she did.
It also came to light that the survivor is currently carrying 5 months old pregnancy as a result of the sexual assault.
The accused was arrested, cautioned and after investigations, charged with the offence before this honourable court.
Talent manager and entertainment pundit, Mr. Logic, in an expression of his views on the recent saga involving musician Black Sherif and cruise people limited has asserted that Black Sherif should be held accountable by facing the law.
According to Mr. Logic, the actions taken by the artiste and his team were deemed unprofessional, and he believes that in order for the creative space to be taken seriously and to flourish, it is essential for individuals within the industry to hold each other responsible and liable for their actions.
During an appearance on UTV’s Showbiz Night, Mr. Logic emphasized that enforcing legal consequences for such breaches and unprofessional behavior would serve as a deterrent for fellow industry players, discouraging them from engaging in similar actions in the future.
“Artistes should take a cue from this challenge, we are in a professional space and the law should take effect. let them go defend themselves in court so lessons can be learned”
“We are not making use of the court, and we take certain things likely in the creative space, the industry is known for unseriousness, and its high time the narrative change should we want a better professional environment”
“The only way we can make money in the creative space is to hold other people responsible for their actions”

In a recent study that spanned nearly ten years, the states in the US with the highest frequency of mass shootings were identified.
From January 2014 to December 2022, there were 4,011 mass shootings nationwide, according to a report released on Wednesday by the JAMA Network Open journal. Four or more persons had to be shot or killed for a mass shooting to be considered one.
Hawaii and North Dakota had no mass shootings, while Illinois had the most with 414. The study presented the number of mass shootings per million persons using data from the Gun Violence Archive.
It was discovered that Washington, DC, has the highest rate of mass shootings—10.4 per million residents—followed by Louisiana (4.2 per million) and Illinois (3.6 per million).
The study claims that a geographic examination of mass shooting incidents revealed a clustering around Illinois and the southeast region of the US.
“Mass shootings related to crime, social issues, and DV (domestic violence) followed a similar pattern, whereas mass shootings not related to these issues were more evenly distributed across the US.”
In addition to the two states without mass shootings, New Hampshire, Idaho, Utah, and West Virginia have the lowest rates with 0.08 per million people, 0.13 per million, and 0.21 per million respectively.
The four states with the largest populations fell in the middle. With 1.04 per million people, California had the highest rate of mass shootings. According to the survey, Texas had 1.05 per million, Florida had 1.25 per million, and New York had 1.05 per million.
For all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, the median number of mass shootings per state was discovered to be 45. Over the course of the nine-year period, mass shootings resulted in the deaths or injuries of 21,006 individuals.
About one-third of the shootings over the time period were social-related, or 27.3%. According to the survey, additional reasons for absence included 15.8% connected to crime, 11.1% related to domestic abuse, and 1.4% related to employment or education. The remaining 52% did not fall under those headings.
“Firearm injury prevention specialists can direct them towards how to prevent them by understanding where mass shootings occur across the nation and more about the context, such as how frequently these tragic events happen in homes,” The study’s co-author and head of the Injury and Violence Prevention Centre at the Colorado School of Public Health, Ashley Brooks-Russell, made this statement.

Shatta Wale’s close friend Medikal has taken a hilarious approach to responding to the latest attack he received from Ghanaian socialite Michy.
After the first incident which took place in April at the birthday party of Ghanaian entertainment blogger GH Kweku, many people thought Michy wouldn’t attack Medikal after it became evident that she made an error by calling out Medikal over alleged remarks he made about her son Majesty.
Well, that was never going to be the case because, during an interview on Okay FM’s Drivetime show hosted by Abeiku Santana, Michy disclosed that she did not regret her actions because she wanted to teach Medikal a lesson and she achieved that purpose.
Shatta Michy opens up regarding her actions towards Medikal in a video that was circulating on the internet.
In a reaction to this Medikal also took to his Twitter page to mock Michy by stating that she was talking unnecessarily because the things she was saying would yield no fruit.
He shared another tweet to state that Michy was just acting dumb with the many she was going on a radio tour to try and run him down when he has done nothing wrong.
Following her false claim that her friend had been abducted, an 11-year-old girl was detained.
The young girl contacted police, reporting that her 14-year-old friend had been taken by “an armed male driving a white van” in Florida, USA.
At roughly 9.45 a.m. local time, she claimed to be following the van in a blue Jeep while sending the message.
According to ABC7, her false alert prompted a massive police search operation for the vehicle, involving the activation of numerous units and air backup.
The youngster texted updates for the next hour and a half, including a description of the male suspect and the fact that he was carrying a gun, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
However, when no suspect was located, police located the original location of the phone used to send the texts.
At 10:23 a.m., it led them to a house in Poppy Lane, Port Orange, where police approached her father, who said she was there with her family.
Upon leading police on a 90-minute spoof kidnapping case, an 11-year-old girl is placed in handcuffs.
The teenager was walking out to meet the deputies while clutching her cell phone, which was ringing, according to the police.
“Volusia Sheriff’s Dispatch was on the line when the call was answered, and deputies confirmed they were on the scene.”
According to reports, the youngster informed deputies that she got the idea to prank 911 from a YouTube challenge and carried it out because she “thought it would be funny.”
She can hear an officer instructing her to “stay calm” and “talk to your parents” on bodycam video of her arrest.
“We can open the window so you can speak with them,” someone said. You won’t experience anything. Do you comprehend that?”
Before her father says, “I’m telling you this right now, you’re going to take this as a lesson at 11 years old, that if you do something stupid in the future, you’re going to enjoy those cuffs,” she nods her head to indicate that she agrees.
I’m not going to do this again, the girl answers.
She is then given the chance to convert this into a learning experience, the officer said. Please understand that this is not something you should carry with you forever.

Otaghware Otas Onodjayeke, a stand-up comedian, has ‘schooled’ women who surgically enhance their butts without improving their senses.
He explained that while it is understandable for women to get cosmetic surgery to boost their confidence, he denounced those who do it just to get laid.
He said the reason why ladies who save up millions to undergo butt surgery yet decide to reside in the hinterlands is the same reason why he recommends they also save enough money to upgrade their senses.
The comedian wondered how they intended to recoup their ‘surgery money’ by staying in remote areas, away from ‘civilization’ and wealthy clients.
He argued, if a lady would improve her looks surgically just for business purposes, then she ought to be sensible enough and strategic in choosing her residential location which has to be an area swarmed by affluent personalities.
Speaking in Pidgin English on the ‘Honest Bunch Podcast’ with Nedu and co, the humour merchant said:
“If you have three million to go do yansh, you suppose save 1.2 to take do sense. Because some girls dey do the yansh to beautify themselves, to give themselves that confidence; which is not bad. Do you understand? Why some dey do am to take increase their money for hookup.
“How you go do yansh, you no do sense? Naim make some girls go do yansh, dem go go dey stay for Epe. How you wan take make your yansh money back for Epe? Wey be say na only nkwobi joint. You go come do three million yansh dey use go chop nkwobi, suya, pepper soup. Wey be say you go do yansh, save small thing come stay Ikoyi or Lekki Phase 1. So that you go fit dey browse in Intercontinental, Wheat Baker, Eko Hotel.”
A video circulating on social media shows how one of the toll booths specifically on the Accra-Tema Motorway has been turned into a home by someone.
The purported resident in the video, can be seen cooking on a tripod just outside the booth whiles inside, one can see a few personal belongings as he goes about his business.
This follows the scrapping of toll collection across the country.
In the wake of the passage of the Electronic Transactions Bill (E-Levy) in 2022, government cancelled the collection of road tolls banking their hopes on raising needed revenue through the levy.
At the time, Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, insisted that scrapping the tolls needed to be done by parliament not the minister but government officials defended the move.
Months on, the transport minister disclosed plans to turn the abandoned toll booths across the country into places of convenience which could fetch the state additional revenue.
Just after 5.30am on Wednesday, a man fell from a Disney-owned property close to Orlando, Florida, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and FOX 35.
According to the sheriff’s office, “deputies responded to the Contemporary Resort after a call came in about a man found unresponsive on the hotel grounds.”
He was declared dead at the site.
The Orange County Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Jeffery Vanden Boom, 39, of Greendale, Wisconsin. According to Fox News Digital, he suffered blunt force wounds after falling accidentally off a hotel room balcony.
A request for comment from Metro.co.uk was not immediately met by Disney.
According to reports, the fifth-floor skybridge that connects Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary Resort was shut down as police looked into the matter.
Social media users who identified themselves as resort guests wrote about the incident.
I believe someone recently passed away at our motel. We received a call at 7:30 telling us not to go outside on the balconies due to a medical emergency, and then we were redirected, said one Reddit member.
Then, when we got outside, we saw a tent that had been taped up and was put up directly beneath a balcony. and several police vans, as well as a van marked “crime scene investigators.”
“It’s really sad, but I believe someone jumped off the balcony because of where it happened.”
Boom’s demise follows the passing of an 83-year-old veteran on a ride at Walt Disney World. According to the sheriff’s office incident report from September 25, 2022, Joseph Masters and his wife Alice were riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover in the Magic Kingdom when he abruptly fainted.
According to reports, Alice begged for assistance and made several calls to her family. After the ride, Masters was given CPR by Disney security and employees. He was taken seriously ill and eventually declared dead at Celebration Hospital.
Forbes has reported that Kanye West is poised to make a substantial financial gain from his 5 percent stake in Kim Kardashian’s highly successful shapewear brand, Skims, which has surged in value to an impressive $4 billion.
This significant increase in the brand’s worth has the potential to be a lucrative opportunity for West, given his ownership in the company.
KimKardashian co-founded the apparel company four years ago and it has become a unicorn four times over. Earlier this year, investors gave the company a $3.2 billion valuation, but the company has raised $270 million in a new funding round, according to the New York Times.
“It has grown quickly, and we’re so proud of that,” Kardashian told the Times. “We’ve had a really good flow of product launches.”
When the company first launched in 2019, it recorded sales of $2 million minutes after going public. The brand originally focused on shapewear but has now added swimsuits and loungewear to its collection.
She initially launched the brand under the name Kimono but changed it to Skims within days after fierce protests over the cultural appropriation of the name, which referred to a traditional Japanese style of clothing.
Once a billionaire, West now has a reported net worth of $400 million. His investment in Skims also accounts for his current net worth. The musician, entrepreneur and one of the few richest self-made Blacks in U.S. history, rose to fame in 2004 when he released The College Dropout album. Since then, he has been a celebrated music icon.
His early earnings came from his music, concerts and royalties until he ventured into entrepreneurship. Face2Face Africa previously reported that West has income coming from his $110 million music catalog. His exact net worth became a subject of controversy. While Bloomberg said he has a net worth of $6.6 billion, Forbes put his net worth at $1.6 billion. West, who has legally changed his name to Ye, subsequently dropped from the billionaires’ club after his net worth fell below the $1 billion mark, according to Forbes’ estimates. This was after German sneaker brand Adidas cut ties with him following a series of controversial comments on Twitter.
“Losing Adidas was the final nail in Ye’s net-worth coffin”, says Forbes, adding: “Now the road has ended.”
What remains of the rapper’s financial empire is his “real estate, cash, his music catalogue, and a 5% stake in ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s shapewear firm, Skims.”

An inquest heard that a teacher committed suicide after suffering horrifying homophobic stalker abuse.
In the weeks leading up to his death on June 6, 2021, Darren Capers repeatedly threatened and harassed Simon Cremen, 38.
The official cause of death was listed as suicide by Coroner Paul Smith at an inquest conducted at Grimsby Town Hall on Friday, according to GrimsbyLive.
Capers, 39, confessed stalking Simon beginning in May 2021 and received a four-year prison term in December of last year.
A video of Capers, a defendant from Grimsby, was played at Hull Crown Court during testimony about his threats to bomb Simon’s home and break his windows.
“You were quite literally terrorising him, and, understandably, your actions had a profound effect upon him,” Judge John Thackray KC said to Capers.
In the last few weeks and days of his life, “You caused distress and misery to your victim.”
Sandra, Simon’s mother, stated during the inquest that she thought her son might have lived if the abuse campaign had not occurred.
In 2019, Simon began working as a maths teacher at Grimsby’s John Whitgift Academy after quitting his position as a banker with Halifax, where he had collected thousands of dollars for LGBTQ+ organisations.
“He loved his job,” Sandra told GrimsbyLive, “and any student would go to Simon for help if they had any problems.”
During the pandemic, he battled with isolation, and when he returned to work, Capers started harassing him.
Simon was overcome by desperation, Mr. Smith stated in his verdict for the inquiry.
“I have no doubt that this vile, homophobic abuse and behaviour, which appeared to be intensifying, gave him concerns.”
He expressed gratitude to Simon’s friends and family for coming and said, “I’ve no doubt Simon will live long in your thoughts and he will be missed by you all.”
TV host and brand influencer Michy has made her relationship status public and claims to be in a wonderful relationship.
She made this statement during a UTV interview when the host asked her if she would be open to seeing her ex-boyfriend Shatta Wale again.
In a prompt reply, Michy said that although she still cares for the Dancehall musician, their relationship is more like a brotherly one rather than a romantic one.
Michy added that she is in a good relationship with someone whose identity was kept a secret, so Ghanaians should not hope for a reunion between her and Shatta Wale.
“I won’t say feel something like the way it used to be. It is more brotherly right now and we have a child together so I owe him that care. I have shown enough, a lot of care publicly to him. We won’t be hypocrites and say it just faded off. Yes, there are things I have made fade off but for that tiny bit of sweetness is still there. I am not good but I am actually in a very nice relationship now”, she told the host.
During the interaction, the media personality also said she was grateful she has been able to settle her difference with Shatta Wale after they broke up about five years ago thus there is no bad blood between them.
“I actually appreciate that post and I am glad we have both looked over our differences for the sake of the child and for the sake of business that we can do in the future. I thank God that we have been able to look beyond the bad blood and live amicably”, she said.
This conversation came about when Shatta Wale took to his Twitter page to show support to Michy who recently released her first single.

Kanye West’s Twitter account has been reinstated following an almost eight-month ban due to offensive tweets.
Kanye was charged with breaking the platform’s rules against inciting violence.
Since his return to the website, whose owner Elon Musk rebranded as X, he has not added any new content.
Ye’s account now shows his last post on 1 December 2022, a day before it was was suspended.
Musk said at the time that Ye had “violated our rule against incitement to violence”, and that the account would be suspended.
It came after the musician posted a series of offensive tweets – one of which appeared to show a symbol combining a swastika and the Star of David.
The suspension followed a similar ban two months earlier, when Ye was initially locked out of his Twitter and Instagram accounts after posting anti-Semitic messages in October. Both platforms removed his posts.
In the same month, clothing giant Adidas cut ties with the rapper, saying it did “not tolerate anti-Semitism and any other sort of hate speech”.
Ye was also suspended from Instagram for 24 hours in March last year after using a racial slur in reference to comedian Trevor Noah.
Neither X or its billionaire owner Mr Musk have commented publicly on Ye’s account reinstatement on Saturday.
Musk reinstated former US President Donald Trump’s account last November after conducting a poll with 51.8% voting in favour of the reinstatement.
A revised indictment in the case involving the classified materials claims that former President Donald Trump tried to erase Mar-a-Lago security footage.
In a superseding indictment, Justice Department prosecutors claim that Trump directed a staff member to erase security camera footage to thwart a federal investigation into the secret materials he carried from the White House to his Florida home.
New counts of obstruction as well as willful retention of national defence records are included in the indictment that was made public on Thursday. The Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira is listed as a third defendant.
De Oliveira is charged with conspiring to conceal video evidence from investigators with Trump and his valet Walt Nauta, who has already been charged.
The latest accusations were described by the Trump campaign as “nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their Department of Justice to harass President Trump and those around him.”
The campaign claimed that “Deranged Jack Smith knows they have no case” and “is looking for any way to salvage their illegal witch hunt and to get someone other than Donald Trump to run against Crooked Joe Biden.”
In June 2022, De Oliveira allegedly invited another Mar-a-Lago employee to a “audio closet” and instructed them that the talk could not be disclosed with anyone else, according to the new indictment from Special Counsel Smith’s office.
The employee claimed that De Oliveira asked how many days’ worth of surveillance footage were on the server and then told that “the boss” wanted it deleted, apparently referring to Trump.
De Oliveira is accused of saying the “boss” demanded it be done and, “What are we going to do?” after the employee expressed doubt that he could execute the request.
Trump is also accused of allegedly presenting a document about military activity in another nation to a writer and publisher of a memoir for his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, which is connected to the new offence of deliberately retaining national defence information. In July 2021, the gathering took place at Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.
To criminal allegations in the investigation into sensitive documents, Trump and Nauta have entered a not guilty plea. The trial date, set for May by US District Judge Aileen Cannon, may change if a third defendant in the case is found. Trump’s legal team has said that a fair trial won’t be granted to him until after the 2024 presidential race.
The revised indictment was released at a time when attention was largely on Trump’s legal team’s Thursday meeting with prosecutors. Trump denied a claim that Smith’s probe into his and his associates’ attempts to rig the 2020 election would result in an indictment being given to his lawyers.
A second-year 17-year-old student of the Jedu Technical and Vocational Institute at Wahaminiso in the Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, Diana Oppong, has sadly lost her life after she was allegedly beaten by her boyfriend.
This tragic demise of Diana happened at the Sunyani Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 29, 2023, where she was receiving treatment following the incident.
Diana’s boyfriend identified only as Kofi who is also a final year student at the same institution reportedly beat her to a pulp on July 18, 2023, following a misunderstanding over a purported pregnancy.
The deceased allegedly collapsed but regained consciousness and made a report at the Terchire police station where she was issued a police medical form to seek medical attention.
Narrating the incident, the grandfather of the deceased, Mr. Boakye Yiadom, disclosed that she was initially treated at the Terchire Health Centre but had to be rushed to the St John of God Hospital in Duayaw Nkwanta and later the Sunyani Regional Hospital when her condition further deteriorated.
“She was beaten by a boy we are told is the boyfriend and she even collapsed as a result. She was treated at the Terchire Health Centre but her condition was getting worse so she was taken to Duayaw Nkwanta and subsequently to Sunyani Regional Hospital where she passed on”.
Mr. Boakye Yiadom added that the family is devastated by her death since the deceased was full of life and loved by everybody in the family and community.
“We are devastated by the news of her passing because she had her life ahead of her and she was loved by many people but this incident has cut it short so we are in great pain as a family”.
He appealed to the authorities to ensure that the culprit faces justice for the crime.
Meanwhile, the suspect has since been arraigned before the Duayaw Nkwanta Magistrate Court and remanded for two weeks to reappear on August 11, 2023.
A number of Private Member’s Bills were sponsored by Mr Sosu, including the Criminal Offences (Amendment), Bill, 2022, which abolishes the Death Penalty; the Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which prohibits witchcraft accusations; and the Armed Forces (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which replaces the Death Penalty with life imprisonment.
Mr Sosu, speaking on the floor of Parliament during the passage of the Bills, also expressed gratitude to his fellow MPs for their support in getting the Bills passed by the House.
He noted that the passage of the three human rights Bills would go a long way to enhance Ghana’s image not only locally but also internationally.
“Mr Speaker, it is often said that the quality of every democracy is determined by how we treat our most vulnerable persons. And for the fact that the House within this week has passed these very important legislations further clearly shows that Ghana indeed, is a democracy that is thriving,” Mr Sosu stated.
“We need to commend the efforts of this House and commend the efforts of (the) Right Honourable Speaker.”
Mr Sosu also commended the efforts of his colleagues, who worked together with him in sponsoring the Bill to proscribe witchcraft accusation.
He thanked the Sanneh Institute, which brought the issue of whichcraft accusation through a petition to Parliament; saying “I am sure that today, they will stand vindicated that the petition they brought to the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana did not go waste.”
Assin Central Member of Parliament and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has declared himself as one of the richest and untouchable members of the NPP.
He is currently on a campaign tour, touting himself as the best candidate to lead the NPP citing his historical monetary and material contributions to the party.
He told delegates and party faithful during his Western Regional campaign stop that he had become fearless because of his wealth, which he had used a considerable amount of to help the party over the years.
“At this stage in my life, I will never be poor till I die. I have home sense, I will never go hungry. I won’t let anyone scare you in this region, we are not afraid of anyone,” he stressed.
“I don’t fear anyone (in this party), you know why? Because I got dough, I got dough,” he stressed whiles gesturing with his hand on his trouser pocket. The claim and gesture elicited lots of cheers from the gathering.
He tasked delegates on the need to not fear anyone in the party who is trying to whip them to support a particular candidate.
“Regional executives are being whipped, I have given 26 pickups to this region, all the 10 contestants, which of them has donated even a car tyre to this region. Come on, you should wake up. Why are you afraid?
“Why are you afraid, those whipping you into a certain line, which candidate can say they care for the Western Region than myself, Kennedy Agyapong?” he told a charged crowd.
Agyapong will contest for the flagbearership slot along with nine other contenders including former trade minister Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who are seen as his main challengers.
The NPP will slash the 10 candidates, who passed the vetting stage, down to five in a preliminary vote (set for August) before the main contest is held in November 2023 to elect a successor to president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as leader of the party.
A father of two who drove his campervan into London’s low emission zone (LEZ) “without knowing” he was being taxed resulted in a £2,000 bill.
On Good Friday earlier this year, Colchester resident Geoffrey Eaton, 53, his wife Linda, 53, and their two kids, Adam, 16, and Elizabeth, 13, made the trip to the nation’s capital.
In what was supposed to be a “relatively cheap” and “fantastic” day out, they had planned to visit family, but it ended up being a “very nasty surprise.”
Transport for London issued the independent architect a fine and a £2,000 payment demand after he drove his RV five miles into and out of the city’s low emission zone, which is distinct from the ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ) and stretches to the M25.
To and from a campsite in Abbey Wood, Geoffrey travelled two five-mile distances within the zone, for which he was charged £300 each time.
However, Mr. Eaton said that he was unaware that the zone went beyond the North and South Circular roads of the capital and that he did not observe any warning signs.
He didn’t recognise his error until he got the penalty letter in the mail a week later, on April 18.
By this point, each trip had increased in price by £1,000 as a result of his late payment of the additional fees he was not aware of.
He was subsequently forced to utilise his credit card and cancel his summertime travel plans since he had no other choice.
Since then, TfL has agreed to a £1,400 “discretionary refund.”
We haven’t travelled outside of the country in six years, and this $2,000 fee would have completely ruined our summer vacations, he claimed.
It arrived at the worst possible time because our heating and energy costs have been rising steadily and are crushing us everywhere.
To be completely honest, I had no idea how I would find the money to pay the payment.
The Laika Ecovip motorhome, which has a 2.8L engine and is classified as weighing 3.5 tonnes or more, was left parked while Geoffrey and his family travelled around the city and visited his wife’s cousin Mary using trains and other forms of public transport.
When Geoffrey found a campground in Abbey Wood, not far from Mary’s home in Plumstead, he thought he had stumbled across “a little gold mine.”
We could see my wife’s cousin on the Friday and then take the kids to London for the day on the Saturday because Abbey Wood is a really wonderful little oasis and it’s only five minutes from Abbey Wood station, he said.
The married pair, who both grew up in London and wanted to show their kids where they worked and some of the city’s most well-known attractions, were fortunate that they chose to utilise trains and other forms of public transit because they might have been charged extra.
We all had Oyster cards, so one of the primary reasons we picked Abbey Wood was to be able to board the Elizabeth Line or Thameslink, which was actually closed on the bank holiday.
“Our day in London was fantastic.”
We visited the Southbank, ate in China Town, took the kids to Covent Garden and the Royal Festival Hall, and showed them some of our old haunts, places we used to work, and other stuff.
It is a rare occasion for Geoffrey and his family to travel to downtown London.
We’d be looking at £60 or £70 for the four of us to come into town if we took the train from Colchester, he continued.
So, in my opinion, it meant that we could all enjoy London for a reasonably priced day trip.
Although Geoffrey joked to his wife that they should take advantage of the chance because it was about to be extended in August, he was unaware that the low emissions zone, which is intended to limit or discourage access by some polluting vehicles, extends to the M25.
To be completely honest, I forgot about it until I received the penalty charge notification yesterday,’ he claimed.
When I logged on, I saw that I had been charged £1,000 for both the Friday excursion into the office and the Sunday departure.
The truth is that I had to charge that much to my credit card since I didn’t have the money.
Geoffrey was informed that the punishment will increase to £4,000 if it was not paid by May 1.
To be really honest, I just wouldn’t be able to pay it, therefore I can’t risk it increasing up to £4,000, he stated.
Geoffrey does not object to London having a low emission zone, but he cannot recall seeing any signs on the road or at the Abbey Wood Caravan And Motorhome Club Campsite.
He said, “If I had to pay £100 to be stupid and not realise that I entered the zone, I would have paid that.”
But £2,000 is a significant sum of money—it’s equivalent to a month’s pay.
“We could have gotten a room in The Shard, but we spent two nights in the motorhome.”
For Geoffrey, driving through London’s extremely low emissions zone is nothing new. He registered his ‘dirty diesel’ Jaguar Xf with Transport for London so that he will be charged automatically if he crosses the queue.
The problem is that it costs around £12.75, or whatever, to enter an ultra low emissions zone in my automobile.
However, I was unaware that another zone went all the way to the M25.
He will keep using his motorhome, which he purchased a few years ago, notwithstanding the event.
The ability to take the kids out and spend more time as a family has been made possible by the motorhome.
We’ve been able to take a number of vacations that would have been too expensive otherwise.
Geoffrey said that he simply was not aware that he was driving inside the zone even though he challenged the case.
I think I’m quite alert when I’m driving, he claimed.
However, I don’t think I noticed any signs indicating the presence of a low emissions zone, such as those found at congested areas or near the Dartford Tunnel.
Drivers need to be aware that everything inside the M25 is subject to charges.
When consumers are faced with hefty penalty fines, a TfL representative said, “we offer support and suggest a manageable way of settling outstanding amounts.”
“We talked about this with Mr. Eaton, and he is pleased with the result.”
“The low emission zone (LEZ) is a well-established policy that has been in effect since 2008. There are signs and advance warning devices at each of the zone’s entry points.
“The LEZ has been incredibly successful in deterring people from driving some of the most heavily polluting vehicles through the capital.”
Currently, 97% of the vehicles in the zone are in compliance with the rules.
The government has been urged not to give in to pressure from outside sources to eliminate the COVID-19 Levy by Professor Justice Nonvignon, an associate professor and health economist at the School of Public Health, University of Ghana.
He added that the COVID-19 Levy should be maintained and set aside for the healthcare industry. He claimed that the COVID-19 Levy could raise between 100 and 600 million dollars for the government.
“One of the biggest mistakes we can make as a country is to put pressure on the government to scrap the Covid 19 levy, which has the potential of raising about 100 to 600 million dollars for the government. It must be earmarked for healthcare,” he stated.
Prof Nonvignon said this during the University of Ghana’s fifth Inaugural Lecture for the 2022/2023 academic year on the theme: “The Pursuit of Health Amidst Scarcity: Economics, Health and the Romance in-between”.
The lecture was held in honour of Prof. Nonvignon’s achievement of the highest academic rank.
The government implemented the COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy in 2021 as a separate tax that is applied to the gross value of taxable supplies of goods and services made under the Standard Rate and VAT Flat Rate Schemes.
However, after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared an end to COVID-19 as a public health emergency, calls have been made to the government to stop the one per cent tax.
Given the importance of research-focused institutions, Prof. Nonvignon stated that the levy should be designated specifically for the health sector. He also mentioned that Noguchi, for example, was crucial during the pandemic.
“The fund needs to be earmarked for something even if it cannot go into the health system fund. Call it COVID Emergency Levy, or Levy to eradicate malaria or something. That way, it can be monitored,” he added.
He said another way to improve health spending was to take advantage of special programmes to support health.
He noted that the 2023 budget outlined 16 special programmes with the total budget being 9 billion cedis.
“However, only one is health specific, that is, nursing training allowance. There should be the introduction of special programmes on malaria, mental health, communicable diseases, and neglected tropical diseases.”
The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has urged the government to use the mid-year budget review to eliminate obnoxious taxes that are affecting business operations.
On July 31, 2023, the mid-year review of the 2023 budget is expected to be delivered by the minister of finance.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency about what the Federation expects, Mr. Abraham Koomson, the Secretary General of GFL, said that these annoyance taxes make it very expensive for businesses to run efficiently.
According to Mr. Koomson, this resulted in businesses closing down and employees being laid off, necessitating the removal of them.
He asserted that despite the bailout requirements from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the local manufacturing sector must continue to exist in order to satisfy reasonable tax obligations and support national economic development.
According to him, continuing to impose such taxes on regional businesses would only threaten the government’s plan to use these taxes as a source of funding to meet its spending goals.
He urged the government to consult important stakeholders like the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) before implementing tax policies.

Residents of Dadease in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region are pleading with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to take immediate action to stop police officers in the area from abusing the locals.
This comes after a police officer was captured on camera trying to arrest a suspect on July 26, 2023 by tying a belt around his neck and dragging him across the ground.
Following the incident’s widespread condemnation, the police administration reports that the accused officer has been detained and arrested, and the IGP has assured the victim’s family that a thorough investigation will be conducted.
As they have expressed concerns about local police officers mistreating them, the locals insist that this is not an isolated incident and urge the IGP to take immediate action.
According to one local, who identified himself only as Kwabena Appiah, “The police claim that most of the guys in the area sell weed, so they are suspects. They will arrest you and beat you mercilessly. This has been happening for a very long time, and it is very condemnable.”
“They can take GHS500 and GHS1,000. This attitude of police officers in this area is a bad one. The police are supposed to liaise with residents and safeguard them, not oppress and harass them. We are, therefore, calling on the government to see to the end of this.”
Another resident said, “I have witnessed them beating a guy with a cane to the extent that he excreted. They just arrest people for unnecessary reasons. They keep doing what is not needful, so we want them changed.”
The family of the victim is calling for compensation, as they believe that the treatment meted out to him could have severe health implications.
The mother of the victim, Afia Owusuaa, told Citi News, “I travelled three days ago, so upon my return, I was informed that the police had arrested my son. I decided to wait and go bail him the following day, but someone came in to show me the video of what had been done to the child. And I also got to know that when they got to the station too, they hanged him. So I informed my uncle, who insisted that we stay back and not go to the station.”
“But around 7pm yesterday, high-ranking police officers came in to speak with us and admitted that how the boy was manhandled was wrong, so the officer would be dealt with accordingly. They also assured that the IGP would call the following day, which he did.”
In an effort to “side with motorists,” Rishi Sunakhas ordered a study of the implementation of low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs).
Such plans restrict traffic in town and city centres, and drivers are frequently prohibited from utilising residential roads as cut-through routes.
The efforts aim to lessen air pollution and promote the use of other forms of transportation.
Some Tory MPs, however, have opposed the plans, claiming they are an attack on drivers.
Mr. Sunak stated in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph that the vast majority of people in the nation depend on their cars to get around. It’s more typical of how the majority of the country lives when I’m fortunate enough to return home to North Yorkshire, where cars are vital.
I simply want to let everyone know that I support their decision to utilise their cars for all of the things that are important to them.
The Conservative candidate used worries over the development of London’s ultra-low emissions zone (Ulez) to gain a close victory in the Uxbridge and Ruislip by-election earlier this month. This led to the pitch to drivers and automobile owners.
In an effort to criticise Labour’s environmental goals, Tory MPs on the right of the party have urged Mr. Sunak to reconsider net zero in light of their achievements.
Traffic management strategies, according to Conservative MP Nick Fletcher, are a part of a “international socialist concept,” he said in the Commons earlier this year.
The criticism of LTNs by Mr. Sunak is not new.
He pledged a study to take into account their impact on emergency services during the Tory leadership election last summer.
He intensified his criticism on Sir Keir Starmer in the same interview as the debate over the Ulez plan, which is being promoted by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Following the setback in Uxbridge, the Labour leader and other senior party figures have urged Mr. Khan to review the strategy.
While highlighting the critical need to clean up the city’s air, the mayor of the capital has pledged to pay attention to Londoners.
“I’ve grown a little more concerned about the Labour Party’s stance.” It’s really anti-motorist,” argued Mr. Sunak.

To the charge of soliciting or importuning by a prostitute, all of the defendants entered pleas of guilty.
Upon entering their own plea, the court found them guilty.
The court also ordered the convicts to be deported back to their home nation.
The Court also gave the Police the responsibility of working with the Ghana Immigration Service to deport each and every convict.
The defendants were all Nigerians, according to information provided by Police Chief Inspector Doris Darko.
According to the prosecution, the convicts have been harassing neighbours in the Accra suburb of Osu for some time now by soliciting and impersonating them as prostitutes.
It was stated that on July 23, 2023, at around 2200 hours, the Police conducted an exercise to crack down on the activities of the commercial sex workers who were arrested from various locations throughout Osu in the act of soliciting and importuning as prostitutes.
They admitted the offence in their caution statements, according to the prosecution, during the course of the investigation.

The Adansi Fomena District Police Command reported that her lifeless body has been taken to the Peace Land morgue at Adeambrea to undergo preservation and autopsy procedures, while the motive behind her actions remains unknown.
Stephen Obuabi, the unit committee chairman for the Hweremoase Electoral area, corroborated the incident when speaking to Adom News’ correspondent, Isaac Normanyo.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, three drones were used to strike the city in what they called a “attempted terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime.”
Air defence systems in the area around Moscow shot down one and jammed two others.
The capital’s Moscow City business centre was struck by those two collisions.
Images from the crash site showed a skyscraper’s exterior with damage to one storey.
According to rescue personnel and the Russian state news service Tass, a security guard was hurt.
According to Tass, no flights entered or left the southern airport of the city, Vnukovo, for approximately an hour, and all aircraft were temporarily barred from the air space over Moscow and the surrounding areas.
Since then, those limitations have been lifted.
A street close to the incident site in the Moscow City neighbourhood was also closed to traffic by Moscow officials.
Officials from Ukraine, who almost never accept responsibility for attacks on Russian territory, made no immediate comments.

Report by the coroner indicates that, a baby died after being born to a “very vulnerable” teenage mother alone in her cell.
After two calls from her mother, Rianna Cleary, to jail staff went unanswered, Aisha Cleary was born in the wee hours of September 27th, 2019.
The Surrey Coroner’s Court in Woking was informed that a prison guard also passed by her cell holding a torch when she was in active labour but did not intervene and offer assistance.
Ms. Cleary, who was just 18 when she gave birth, was exploited by county lines gangs while in custody and eventually ended up at HMP Bronzefield jail in August 2019.
She said at the inquest that she started feeling pain on September 26, 2019, but she was unsure of what it was because she wasn’t due to give birth for another month.
She dozed off momentarily before awakening that evening in “really serious pain.”
She called the prison officials twice in a panic, pleading for a nurse and an ambulance, but neither showed up.
After losing blood, she subsequently dozed off and gave birth to the child in the middle of the night.
She had to use her teeth to sever the umbilical cord when she awoke.
The baby had brain damage and was pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m. that morning, according to the inquest.
If she had been alive at birth, she would have perished within hours, but the coroner was unable to determine whether she was stillborn or breathing.
When she first called, a prison custody officer (PCO) named Mark Johnson responded. He claimed she had been “abusive” and had been swearing while asking for a nurse.
According to charity INQUEST, he is under disciplinary review and is still prohibited from working with prisoners.
Her second call, which she placed when her bed, hands, and buzzer were stained with blood, went unanswered for no apparent reason.
Later that evening, when in labour, PCO Katarzyna Rachwal passed away and informed the hearing that “nothing came to my attention, which is why I moved on.”
Ms. Cleary was said to have avoided interacting with nurses before to the birth out of fear that social services would take her child away.
The inquest heard that she allegedly threatened to murder herself or another person if she were to lose custody of her child.
Opportunities to make sure she didn’t give birth alone in her cell, according to Surrey’s senior coroner Richard Travers, were neglected.
He said that neither the prison nor the midwives at St. Peter’s Hospital did enough to develop a strategy that would detect the beginning of Miss Cleary’s labour and ensure that she was taken to the hospital right away.
He continued, “She ought to have been given a personal adviser and put on a pathway to help her deliver the child safely.”
Additionally, the institution did not appropriately monitor her, stand by her when she threatened to commit suicide if the baby was taken away, or attend to her cries for assistance while she was in labour.
The coroner stated: “There is clear evidence, not least of all, of systemic failings which more than marginally contributed to Aisha’s delivery in a prison cell without medical assistance and, after delivery, losing the chance of resuscitation and survival.”
There would have been a chance for efficient actions to have been made to ensure Aisha’s life if Aisha’s mother’s labour had been recognised and she had been sent to the hospital in time for Aisha’s delivery.
Nothing could reverse the trauma I went through or bring Aisha back, Ms. Cleary, who watched the inquest remotely, declared in a statement given by her attorney Maya Sikand KC after the hearing.
“It makes me so sad to think that Aisha might still be alive if they had assisted me.” Only one prison guard apologised to me directly, and he hadn’t even done anything wrong.
Just before the inquiry began, the deputy director of Bronzefield sent me one paragraph and apologised for giving birth alone.
If this inquest hadn’t occurred, they would still be pointing the finger at me for giving birth on my own.
Protesters have argued that expecting mothers shouldn’t be kept in jails.
Pregnant women being imprisoned is either prohibited or heavily restricted in several nations, such as Brazil, Ukraine, and Mexico.
The very upsetting witness testimony heard during this inquest, according to Charity Birth Companions, “adds to the substantial weight of evidence showing that prisons are not, and will never be, safe environments for pregnant women.” We approve of the coroner’s verdict.
“The Government can and must stop imprisoning mothers of young children and those who are pregnant.”
‘Aisha’s death was horrific,’ said Damian Hinds, minister of prisons. We will never stop sending her mother and family our most sincere condolences.
Since then, significant advancements have been achieved in the care provided to expectant women, including the addition of mother and baby specialists to every women’s jail, more welfare inspections, and enhanced prenatal care.
