Burial of Former National School Feeding Coordinator set for March 2

The Ghanaian community is mourning the loss of Mrs. Gertrude Essie Quashigah, a prominent figure known for her impactful contributions to the nation. Mrs. Quashigah, former National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ambar Quality Foods Limited, will be laid to rest in Keta, Volta Region, on March 2, 2024.

Before her passing, Mrs. Quashigah had left an indelible mark on Ghana’s socio-economic landscape through her dedicated service and entrepreneurial endeavors. Her leadership role in the GSFP played a pivotal role in addressing food insecurity among school children, ensuring they received nutritious meals for their holistic development.

The funeral arrangements, announced by the family, reflect the respect and admiration Mrs. Quashigah garnered throughout her life. A family vigil will be held on March 1 at the late Major (Rtd) Courage Quashigah’s residence in Dzelukope, Keta. Pre-burial and burial services are scheduled for March 2 at Keta Senior High School park, followed by interment at Zotorglo Family Cemetery in Keta.

Mrs. Quashigah’s legacy extends beyond her professional accomplishments; she was a loving wife to Major Courage Quashigah, a former Minister of Health and Agriculture, and a cherished member of her community. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her spirit of resilience and dedication continue to inspire those who knew her.

Political figures, business leaders, friends, family, and sympathizers will gather to pay their final respects and honor Mrs. Quashigah’s memory. Her life serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, compassion, and leadership in shaping a better future for generations to come.

Born on February 1, 1960, Mrs. Gertrude Essie Quashigah passed away on November 12, 2023, at the age of 63. As we bid farewell to a remarkable leader, let us carry forward her legacy by embodying the values of service, integrity, and commitment to positive change in our communities and beyond.

In the midst of sorrow, we find solace in the profound impact Mrs. Quashigah has had on countless lives and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

British traveller seated next to wife passes away during trip

A man from Britain died while he was flying with his wife from the Falkland Islands to Chile.

The 59-year-old person, whose name has not been given, was flying with Chilean airline LATAM to Punta Arenas on Saturday when he passed away.

The Chilean police met the plane when it arrived at Carlos Ibanez del Campo Airport. They do not believe that the man’s death was caused by a crime.

Diego Díaz, Deputy Commissioner of the specialist unit in Punta Arenas, said that detectives from the Punta Arenas Homicide Brigade went to Carlos Ibanez del Campo Airport after a 59-year-old British tourist died on a plane traveling from the Falkland Islands to Punta Arenas before his connecting flight to Santiago, following instructions from local prosecutors.

‘The man’s wife was asked questions and said he had various health problems. ‘

A post mortem, which is an examination of a dead body, is expected to happen today or tomorrow to find out why he died.

  • Israel considers cease-fire plan as reports of development come in

Israel considers cease-fire plan as reports of development come in

Israel’s group of leaders for war has been given information about discussions for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. There are reports that progress has been made in the discussions that took place in Paris on Saturday.

The police stopped protests in Tel Aviv where people were asking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down.

Police on horses attacked people protesting as they were trying to go to Democracy Square.

The Paris talks are for discussing ways to make peace and bring back the hostages.

The agreement would also include letting Palestinian prisoners go free from Israeli jails.

On Saturday night, the leaders of Israel discussed the talks in Paris with people from Egypt, Qatar, and the US.

Mr Netanyahu wrote that we are trying to get a new plan to release our hostages.

That’s why I sent a group of people to Paris, and tonight we will talk about what to do next in the negotiations.

Israel will send a group to Qatar for more talks this week.

People in Israel protested against their government a lot before Hamas attacked on October 7. They really didn’t like Mr. Netanyahu and his strict cabinet for over a year.

However, this Saturday was the first time since October that police have used harsher actions to control the situation.

The protesters are motivated by the war in Gaza and the concern that their government is focused on defeating Hamas instead of saving hostages.

The Justice Ministry is looking into a video where an officer used a horse’s reins to hit a protester on the ground. The video is being shared a lot.

Yair Lapid, who is the main leader against the government, said the police were too rough with the people protesting outside the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) headquarters.

He said that protesting is a right that should not be stopped by using batons and water cannons.

At least 21 people were arrested and many people were hurt.

In addition to the protest against the government, the families of the Israeli hostages came together in the city to ask for a peaceful solution to the war and to bring their loved ones back home.

Earlier on Saturday, Israeli news said that the talks in Paris about a deal to release hostages and stop fighting had gone well.

Israel’s top spy, David Barnea, met with diplomats from Egypt, Qatar and the US in Paris on Saturday.

They apparently agreed on a rough plan for a deal to use as a starting point for more talks. This plan was then shared with the Israeli war cabinet on Saturday night.

The Israeli government is sending a group of people to Qatar to talk about making a deal. The deal would mean stopping the fighting for a few weeks and releasing some hostages in exchange for letting go of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.

However, Tzachi Hanegbi, the Israeli national security adviser, said in a TV interview on Saturday evening that the agreement doesn’t mean the war is over.

A high-up Palestinian official who knows a lot about the talks had told the BBC before that not much progress was made in Paris. They also said that the negotiators were sharing wrong information on purpose to put more pressure on Hamas.

Hamas has not said anything about the recent reports of making a deal.

Meanwhile, there is still fighting and air strikes in Gaza that are causing people to die.

Mr Netanyahu said he will get his team together to talk about a plan for a mission in Rafah in Gaza. A lot of people live in a small area there. More Israeli air strikes are making it harder to help people in need.

Organizations that help people and some Western governments have said that if Rafah is attacked, it could be very bad.

The UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees has stopped giving aid in northern Gaza because people are stealing the supplies. On 5 February, one of its trucks was also shot at by the Israelis.

The UN says there is a greater chance of not having enough food in Gaza. There are videos of people in Jabalia waiting for food in really bad situations.

The news says that a two-month-old baby from Palestine died because he didn’t have enough food at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City on Friday.

The health ministry run by Hamas says that at least 29,600 Palestinians have died in Israeli attacks, and there are probably many more people who have died but their bodies have not been found yet under the collapsed buildings in Gaza.

Israel promised to defeat Hamas after the attacks on southern Israeli towns near Gaza. About 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were killed and 250 were taken hostage.

Over US$21K secured in fundraiser launched for Ghanaian immigrant killed in Toronto shooting

Friends of Adu Boakye, a Ghanaian immigrant tragically killed in an indiscriminate shooting in the North York area of Toronto, Canada, are rallying support to aid his grieving family back home.

Boakye, who succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at a hospital on February 17, was shot at a bus stop by an unknown gunman.

In response to the devastating loss, one of Boakye’s close friends, Richardson Adorsu, took initiative by creating a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Boakye’s funeral expenses and to support his family in Ghana.

The fundraiser aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by Boakye’s loved ones during this difficult time.

As of the time of reporting, the fundraiser has garnered overwhelming support, with over 490 generous donors contributing over 28,598 Canadian dollars towards the 40,000 CAD target. This amount translates to over US$21,000, reflecting the widespread solidarity and compassion extended to Boakye’s family and community.

The fundraiser’s introduction provided poignant details about Boakye’s tragic death, revealing that he was on his way to remit money to his family in Ghana when he was senselessly shot. Additionally, it disclosed the number of shots that struck him, shedding light on the brutality of the incident.

In remembrance of Boakye, a vigil was held at a bus shelter across from the Driftwood Community Centre on Saturday, February 24.

The solemn gathering drew mourners from the community and beyond, with even Toronto Mayor in attendance, underscoring the significance of Boakye’s life and the impact of his untimely passing.

The tragic loss of Adu Boakye has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones, but the outpouring of support from the community serves as a testament to his enduring legacy and the bonds of solidarity that unite us in times of sorrow.

As the fundraiser continues to garner donations and support, it stands as a beacon of hope amidst the darkness of tragedy, offering solace to Boakye’s grieving family and honoring his memory with love and compassion.

    Read the full details below:

As a community we are raising funds to support a family who has lost their father, their husband, their son, a brother and friend.

Adu Boakye came to Canada seeking a better life for himself and family. Adu was shot while standing at the bus stop at Jane and Driftwood while waiting for the bus to go and send money to his wife back home in Ghana.

A gunman walked up to him and shot him 2 times in his stomach and as he tried to run he fell and he was again shot in his face.

Adu was the primary provider for his family with 4 children and also his elderly parents. This devastating situation is a big loss for a family who is so far and cannot be here to see Adu for the last time.

We are pleading with the community at large to help raise funds to help the family with funeral cost and also for his wife and children to be able to see him one last time. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful support.

  • Bright Simons outlines why govt must cancel Agyapa deal in 28-minute presentation

Bright Simons outlines why govt must cancel Agyapa deal in 28-minute presentation

The controversial Agyapa Royalties deal, proposed by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, has once again sparked public outcry following reports of the government spending over $12 million on the deal despite its suspension.

Bright Simons, Vice President of IMANI Africa, has articulated reasons why the Agyapa deal, which would have impacted approximately 97% of Ghana’s royalties from mineral resources, must be urgently cancelled.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Simons emphasized the manner in which the deal was pushed through parliament by the government and its majority, without proper scrutiny or approval.

He noted that the government began implementing the deal without parliamentary authorization, as required by law, and highlighted former Attorney General Gloria Akuffo’s criticism of the deal for its lack of parliamentary approval.

Simons further elucidated on the concerns surrounding the deal, revealing that it entails selling Ghana’s gold rights for $1 billion without any expiry date or restriction on future gold deposits.

This, he explained, would grant private investors control over royalties from potential future gold mines discovered in the country.

Moreover, Simons raised alarm over the mechanism through which the deal was structured, asserting that private investors would benefit disproportionately while Ghana would bear the brunt of the consequences.

He emphasized that the share price appreciation would primarily benefit specific investors rather than Ghana, as the underwriters would control the pricing before the shares debut on the stock market.

Furthermore, Simons warned that the selection of independent directors, controlled by deal insiders, would dictate dividend and investment policies to the detriment of Ghana’s interests.

The revelations by Simons have reignited public concern and scrutiny over the Agyapa Royalties deal, with calls for transparency, accountability, and ultimately, the cancellation of the agreement.

As stakeholders continue to dissect the intricacies of the deal, pressure mounts on the government to address the underlying issues and uphold the best interests of the nation.

  • Ghanaians have been swindled by Akufo-Addo, Bawumia – Martin Amidu

Ghanaians have been swindled by Akufo-Addo, Bawumia – Martin Amidu

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu launched a blistering attack on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing them of deceiving Ghanaians about their commitment to fighting corruption.

Amidu, a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, asserted that corruption has flourished under their administration, despite their promises to eradicate it.

Amidu highlighted his previous criticism of former President John Dramani Mahama in 2015, which he claimed was exploited by Akufo-Addo and Bawumia to portray themselves as incorruptible leaders who would stamp out corruption if elected. However, Amidu asserted that their administration has presided over an unprecedented level of corruption and cronyism, contrary to their campaign promises.

He condemned Nana Akomea, a deputy chairperson and strategist of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), for attempting to use Amidu’s 2015 interview to score political points. Amidu characterized this as “dishonest opportunism” and criticized the NPP’s deception of Ghanaians.

Amidu did not mince words in his assessment of President Akufo-Addo, whom he described as the “mother serpent of corruption.” He accused the president of obstructing his efforts to investigate the Agyapa Royalties Transaction deal, which Amidu labeled as the biggest corrupt deal in Ghana since independence.

Reflecting on his resignation in 2020, Amidu recounted his “traumatic experience” and accused President Akufo-Addo of breaching his presidential oath by unlawfully obstructing his investigation into the Agyapa Royalties Transaction.

Amidu’s scathing critique underscores the growing disillusionment with the current government’s handling of corruption and its failure to live up to its anti-corruption rhetoric. His revelations have sparked widespread debate and scrutiny of the administration’s integrity and commitment to good governance.

  • “Konongo Kaya”, the tribal insult Martin Amidu will never forget

Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has entered the fray surrounding recent commentary on the use of tribal invectives in front-line politics, expressing dissatisfaction with what he perceives as selective quoting and hypocrisy.

The controversy was ignited by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, who labeled Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as a disgrace to northerners. Kwetey’s remarks triggered harsh reactions, particularly from the opposition.

Nana Akomea, a key member of the Bawumia for President 2024 campaign, condemned Kwetey’s rhetoric, citing its misplaced nature. Akomea referenced Amidu’s 2015 attack on former President Mahama in a radio interview, highlighting the NDC’s silence on similar invectives directed at their candidate at the time.

However, Amidu expressed discontent with Akomea’s response, accusing him of deliberate misrepresentation of the context in which he made the comments in 2015. Amidu emphasized Akomea’s silence when he himself faced tribal insults from an NPP Member of Parliament, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, who derogatorily referred to him using a colonial Akan insult on northerners.

Amidu’s rebuke of Akomea’s apparent hypocrisy was articulated in a piece dated February 22, where he warned both the NPP and NDC against selectively quoting him during the upcoming campaign season.

“When Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, the NPP Member of Parliament, an Ashanti, pejoratively referred to me using a colonial Akan insult on northerners as ‘Konongo Kaya’ on Friday, 19 August 2022, the tribal undertones were not lost upon many northerners generally and reasonable patriotic Ghanaians. Almighty Nana Akomea endorsed the tribal insult by his NPP party colleague with his eerie silence,” Amidu’s piece read in part.

Amidu’s intervention underscores the contentious nature of tribal politics in Ghana and the need for a more responsible discourse among political actors. He called for an end to the selective use of his past remarks for political expediency and urged both parties to refrain from exploiting his words during the campaign season.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should be careful about quoting what I said or wrote in the past out of context to spuriously support allegations of corruption or mismanagement against each other for the purely propaganda purpose of deceiving the electorate for their votes and abandoning them thereafter. I hope that when eventually I determine by a considered examination and analysis of the facts and evidence the most corrupt of the two political parties they will each accept my verdict without question since I have become their authority on this issue.

Modern Ghana reported on 22 February 2024 with its source as Citinewroom the reaction of the NPP’s Nana Akomea, the Deputy Campaign Chairman for candidate Mahamudu Bawumia to alleged tribal remarks made by Fiifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC in which the latter described Mahamudu as a “disgrace to northerners.”  Mr. Fiifi Kwetey is an Ewe from Southern Volta and to call Mahamudu as a “disgrace to northerners” evokes a legitimate question of using tribal pejoratives against Mahamudu.

When Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, the NPP Member of Parliament, an Ashanti, pejoratively referred to me using a colonial Akan insult on northerners as “Konogo Kaya” on Friday, 19 August 2022, the tribal undertones were not lost upon many northerners generally and reasonable patriotic Ghanaians. Almighty Nana Akomea endorsed the tribal insult by his NPP party colleague with his eerie silence.  It does appear to me to be the height of hypocrisy that when Fiifi Kwetey uses a similar pejorative insult on the person Nana Akomea is hoping to win the 2024 presidential election and appoint him to a juicy position, his reposit is to refer to a senior northerner warning his junior brother of the consequences of his conduct on the north.

I continue to see myself first and foremost as a northerner because I was born in the British Protectorate of the Northern Territories of the Gold Coast Colony (NT) to British protected persons deprived of the rights enjoyed by the British colonial subjects in the Gold Coast and Ashanti. The entire natives of the NT were pejoratively referred to as Northerners which our forebearer internalized and accepted as a distinct mark for the anti-colonial struggle and exhibition of a culture of honesty and integrity which the British found in all the tribes in the NT. The original pejorative reference to the people of the NT as northerners came to symbolize a culture of honour, integrity, valour, hard work, and unquestioned loyalty to the British Crown or whosoever the worker from the NT served in the colony. The pride of being a northerner from the NT found expression in the Northern People’s Party, the Northern Study Group, and the Northern Student’s Union for which I was the Secretary General in

1976/77 academic year. The concept of northerners became so accepted by the people of the NT to the extent that the scholarships created by Kwame Nkrumah to accelerate education and development to enable the NT after independence catch up with what had been the privileged colony was named the Northern Scholarship Grant.

It does not matter how many regions the Northern Region at independence is divided into to balkanize it. We of the old stock still see ourselves first and foremost as northerners, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters and each other’s keeper, politics notwithstanding. I, therefore, had an inherent right as John Dramani Mahama’s northern senior brother to warn him about the consequences of treading a path which was non-northern in my view.  What I said was culturally permissible as every senior in our culture has a right to warn every junior not to bring the north into disrepute. Nana Akomea cannot, therefore, honestly quote what I said or wrote about John Mahama in 2015 as an answer to what Fiifi Kwetey, a nonnortherner and junior in age to Mahamudu said about him except to deceive the unsuspecting electorate of an analogy, where none exits.

One ardent NPP supporter of Akan origin holding dual nationality resident in the comfort of the United States of America has referred to several northerners, including myself, who disagree with the NPP Government’s unprecedented corruption as “Frafra native from the Upper East Region.” He has consistently referred to John Mahama as “Okogufuo

Yagbonwura Kwame Gonja” without any objection or rebuke from the likes of Nana Akomea. The NPP’s gaping sycophant dual national sitting in the comfort of the USA went to the extent of describing the 1992 Constitution thus: “….the irredeemable travesty that is the largely National Democratic Congress-drafted and enacted Ghana’s 1992 Republican Constitution…” But now that Fiifi Kwetey has called the integrity of Nana Akomea’s future employer should Mahamudu win the 2024 presidential election into question, I, Martin Amidu, have become opportunist Nana Akomea’s bartering ram against Fiifi Kwetey and the NDC without the context and environment in which I spoke to Joy FM.

Where was the sense of propriety of opportunist Nana Akomea when Daniel Bugri Naabu (Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP) was reported on 21 November 2015 to have said that President Mahama is a disgrace to Northerners? See:Has President Mahama outwitted his political opponents? (ghanaweb.com). In picking on me, Nana Akomea is corruptly and hypocritically hiding the facts and evidence from the electorate that Bugri Naabu was between 1996 and 2000 a card bearing and leading member of the NDC. (See: Ghana: Prodigal Bugri Naabu Quits NDC for Good – allAfrica.com). Nana Akomea is also wishing away the fact that the electorate knows that the NPP Government appointed me as the first Special Prosecutor and I discovered the massive, suspected corruption and procurement malpractices offences in the 64-page Agyapa Royalties Transaction Report. Nana Akomea must be dishonestly pretending to be unaware that Fiifi Kwetey might just have been transferring by repeating what Bugri Naabu said in November 2015 to fit the circumstances and role of Mahamudu Bawumia as Vice-President in today’s Ghana.

Politicians like Nana Akomea may assume naively that Ghanaians are forgetful of the context, the circumstances, and the environment within which I spoke to Joy Fm and MultiTV’s news analysis programme, Newsfile, on or about 14 November 2015 which supported the Nana Akufo-Addo/Mahamudu Bawumia pretensions of being incorruptible and the messiahs to stop corruption, nepotism, cronyism, and use our natural resources for benefit of Ghanaians. Ghanaians believed their pretensions and false promises only to find us swindled as a nation and brought to hunger and deprivation by the duo. Corruption and cronyism have reached an apogee never witnessed in the history of this country. It, therefore, smacks of dishonest opportunism to quote what I said in 2015 in the hope of a better alternative offered by the deception of Ghanaians by the Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia duo.

I have stated elsewhere that the 2024 presidential election is going to be a contest between the lesser of two evils under the 1992 Constitution. In making that decision the non-sycophantic reasonable electorate may have to weigh the effects of the biblical and koranic edicts on punishment and repentance, and continued sin camouflaged with polished deception. John Dramani Mahama and Mahamudu Bawumia are both my northern brothers and it is dangerous for both the NDC and the NPP to seek to use what I said or wrote before the Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Siamese twins assumed the governance of this country on 7 January

2017 to date. Remember that I worked with this regime and may be privy to things Nana Akomea and his like cannot fathom. Nana Akufo-Addo knows how lethal I could be if the NPP puts temptation in my path.

I wish the better of the two, John Mahama and Mahamudu Bawumia, win the 2024 presidential election through decent campaigning and speaking truth to the electorate. Should both sides drag my name into their affray and compel me to speak out as a senior northerner those who baited me should not blame me. I need nothing from John Mahama or Mahamudu Bawumia when either of them wins the 2024 elections just as I took nothing from the Nana

Akufo/Bawumia governments. “A word to the wise,” we use to jokingly say at the Bawku Middle Mixed Boarding School in the early 1960’s, “is in the North.”

Charles Bronson discloses plans for event if he is ever freed

Charles Bronson has made a list of things he will do if he is ever released from prison. He is hoping the parole board will look beyond his past of being violent and taking hostages.

At 71 years old, Britain’s most famous prisoner, who was born Michael Gordon Peterson, has been in prison and mental hospitals for over 50 years for crimes like robbery, blackmail, and false imprisonment.

In a recent interview with MailOnline, he said that if he ever gets out of prison, he wants to walk on grass without shoes and find a forest to hug a tree.

After he asked to be moved from HMP Woodhill to a different prison and was told no, Bronson says he felt really upset.

He told the paper that it had been over 30 years since he last walked barefoot on grass. I want to go to a small diner and get a really big breakfast.

I want to go to the woods and give a tree a hug. Find joy in the small things of life. Visit a store that sells fish and chips and ask for some. Sit on a bench and eat while watching everything around you.

He said: “My dreams are very simple and easy. ” I just want to be left alone to make my art in peace.

Currently, Bronson spends most of his time in his cell. However, he is hopeful that the Parole Board will change their decision when he meets with them again in 2025.

He said: “I think they will agree to let me go. ” They need to let me go.

I was really upset about my last chance to be released from prison. I had done better than that. I worked hard for six years and it was really heartbreaking to end up with nothing.

Bronson was arrested in 1974 for armed robbery. He was also convicted of wounding in 1975, 1978, and 1985.

Intercity bus bursts into flames on Accra-Kumasi Highway

A harrowing incident transpired on the Accra-Kumasi highway as an intercity bus suddenly erupted into flames, sending shockwaves through the passengers and bystanders alike.

The terrifying ordeal unfolded when the bus encountered unforeseen mechanical issues, sparking panic among those on board.

Eyewitnesses recounted the heart-stopping moment when smoke began to billow from the vehicle, prompting the swift actions of the bus driver. Recognizing the imminent danger, the driver promptly brought the bus to a halt at the roadside, allowing all passengers to evacuate safely before the flames engulfed the vehicle entirely.

Despite the driver’s quick response, the fire rapidly intensified, devouring the entire bus within a matter of minutes. Despite the frantic efforts of onlookers, little could be done to contain the blaze as it spread uncontrollably.

Thankfully, amidst the chaos and devastation, there were no reported casualties or injuries. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of emergencies on the road, highlighting the importance of swift action and preparedness in such situations.

  • Putin destroys Ukraine’s healthcare system with devious strategy

Putin destroys Ukraine’s healthcare system with devious strategy

Medical workers in Ukraine joke that Vladimir Putin‘s soldiers see the Red Cross on ambulances as a target.

When Russian tanks entered Ukraine on February 24, 2022, it was clear that the rules of war were ignored, marking a new era in Eastern European history.

The Kremlin is targeting hospitals, medical centers, pharmacies, and paramedics in the conflict.

Every day for the past three years, Ukraine’s health system has been attacked almost two times per day, totaling 1,336 attacks.

The media found nearly 1,000 attacks like this, showing Russia’s plan to ruin important buildings and systems.

The data shows that 699 attacks harmed or ruined hospitals and medical facilities. 75 of these attacks affected hospitals for children and 54 affected hospitals for women’s health.

Meanwhile, 198 people who work in health were attacked and killed, and 137 were hurt.

Canadian volunteer combat medic Brandon Mitchell almost died two times while he was in Ukraine.

His team had to leave a medical checkpoint in Zaporizhzhia because they heard on a captured radio that the Russian military was going to bomb it.

Less than a day later, the center was burned in the attack after escaping from the position.

“Russia knew it was a medical area, so they destroyed it, but we had already left and that’s just usual,” he told Metro. couk

Brandon drove an ambulance through two enemy mines during an evacuation and set off an explosion.

It’s amazing that the 37-year-old person lived. He got very hurt and had to stay in the hospital for six weeks to get better. Until now, the attack still makes him feel very scared and upset.

Before the explosion, the paramedic saved four children, but he still felt bad about it.

‘After I got out of the ambulance, I felt like I had done enough. ‘ Brandon said he doesn’t have to do anything else.

I don’t need to show that I am a man again. I was really afraid that week, it was hard.

Afterwards, I felt bad for feeling relieved and happy, but it’s normal for people to feel that way.

I don’t know how you write that stuff. I’m sorry for using that language, but it’s true.

Russia often waits for 30 minutes after bombing civilians, then attacks again when the first responders arrive.

Just like in the war in Syria, Brandon said that this “double tap” attack is what often causes emergency workers to get killed or hurt.

This is how some of his friends died in the attack at the train station in the city of Kramatorsk in April 2022.

Brandon came to Ukraine not long after the invasion started. He brought help like food, medicine, and other things from Lviv to Kharkiv.

In the end, he joined a group of volunteer medics called the Hospitallers. They help injured Ukrainian soldiers in the war area by giving them first aid and bringing them to safety.

He took a short break from working on the frontline to go to the UK. He toured cities with a bombed ambulance from Kherson that was brought over for the two-year anniversary.

Kateryna Pryimak, who started a group for Ukrainian women veterans, went to London to work with a team of paramedics. She was seen holding a sign that said, “I am a medic from Ukraine and I brought this ambulance that Russia tried to destroy. ” There are many more.

In 2014, when there was a war in eastern Ukraine, she didn’t want to stay at home, so she joined the Hospitallers.

She worked as a paramedic for 11 months in the areas near Donetsk airport that were very hot.

In 2022, when Putin came back strong, she started giving humanitarian help instead.

Kateryna has seen some really scary things during the invasion – like women soldiers carrying grenades to protect themselves from the Russians, and attacks on ambulances carrying injured people.

She said: “We live in a world that your mind can’t understand. ” It’s similar to a video game, like Call of Duty. We are very sad.

As a medic, you can’t do much when big bombs come every 10 minutes. I didn’t have a gun to keep myself safe.

Kateryna remembered a time in 2014 when Russians took a Ukrainian radio and used it to ask for medical help in the east.

When they got there, the enemy soldiers started shooting at them using a strategy that the Russians used a lot during the war.

She said: ‘If soldiers kill all the medics, then nobody will be able to treat Ukrainian troops and civilians. ‘

Russian soldiers are not only attacking the health system, but also arresting and scaring healthcare workers.

People in Ukrainian territories that are controlled by another country have been forced to change their citizenship in order to get medical treatment. This process is called “passportization”.

South Carolina primary: Nikki Haley loses to Donald Trump handily in her own state

Donald Trump is getting closer to being chosen as the Republican presidential candidate after winning big against Nikki Haley in South Carolina.

The ex-president won the state where his primary opponent lives by 20 points. This is his fourth win in a row.

As he was happy, Mr. Trump didn’t talk about Ms. Haley, who promised to keep running. Instead, he planned to focus on the election in November.

It is likely that there will be a rematch with the person who comes after him in the White House.

“We are going to talk to Joe Biden face to face,” he told his supporters just after the US media announced him as the winner on Saturday night. “He’s ruining our country – and we’re going to tell Joe to leave because he’s fired. ”

Mr Trump praised his party for being “united” after the result on Saturday, and said that there has never been a feeling of togetherness like this before. I have never seen the Republican Party so together.

He changed his response compared to last month’s primary in New Hampshire. He was angry at Ms. Haley for acting like she won in her speech.

Ms Haley, who used to be governor of South Carolina for two terms, told her opponent congratulations on winning in her speech.

She said she wouldn’t give up, even though she only received about 40% of the vote, she thought it was a decent amount.

She said a lot of people who vote for Republicans want someone else to choose from. She also said her campaign is not about her wanting to be in politics.

“I won’t stop fighting even though most Americans don’t like Donald Trump or Joe Biden,” she said.

She said she will keep running in the race until at least Super Tuesday on March 5th, when voters in 16 states will vote on the same day.

“I always keep my promises,” said the ex UN ambassador. “We are going to Michigan tomorrow and then to the Super Tuesday states all next week. ”

The Trump campaign said that Ms Haley is not thinking clearly and is not in touch with reality. They don’t think her efforts are important.

The Trump campaign believes that the former president will get enough delegates to officially win the nomination in the next month.

Ms Haley is not sure what to do next because her opponent has a lot more support from delegates and is expected to win in future elections.

The Haley campaign is still going strong because of the support from wealthy donors. She keeps getting money even though it’s hard for her.

In January, Ms. Haley raised $16. 5 million by herself, according to campaign officials. That was her highest amount for one month yet, and a lot more than Mr.

Paris’s Eiffel Tower to reopen following six-day strike

The Eiffel Tower in Paris was supposed to open again on Sunday after being closed for six days because of strikes.

Employees first went on strike on Monday because they were unhappy with how the tower was being managed.

The company that operates the Eiffel Tower, called Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), announced that they made an agreement with the worker’s unions on Saturday.

There has been another attack at the famous landmark in Paris, this is the second one in the last three months. Paris is getting ready to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

SETE said sorry to people who bought tickets and promised to give them their money back if their bookings were affected. They lost around 100,000 ticket sales because of this.

The strong CGT labor union said workers are going on strike because they disagree with SETE’s business model. They think SETE is estimating too many future visitors and not estimating the cost of maintenance and renovation accurately.

Stéphane Dieu, representing the union, said SETE is only focused on making money quickly.

The people who are protesting are worried about the monument. The newspaper Le Monde said that it has not been painted for 14 years, instead of the usual seven. Also, other repairs are not being done on time.

This week’s strike was supposed to last for five days, but the CGT said on Friday that workers voted to continue the strike on Saturday after turning down SETE’s first offer.

On Saturday, SETE agreed with the unions to keep an eye on the company’s business, investments, and earnings. They will meet every six months to talk about it.

With the goal of getting its finances in order by 2025, they also agreed to invest around 380m (£325m) by 2031 for repairs and upkeep of the landmark.

On Thursday, France’s Culture Minister Rachida Dati proposed that the Eiffel Tower be designated as a “historical monument” so that the government can provide funding for any necessary repairs.

The Eiffel Tower closed on 27 December because workers were protesting how it is managed. They were also marking 100 years since the tower’s creator, Gustave Eiffel, died.

Eiffel was a civil engineer who became famous for building bridges and viaducts for the French railway. He was most famous for building the tower to show how advanced France was to the rest of the world, at the 1889 Paris Exposition.

It took just over two years to build, and at that time, it was the tallest building in the world. It quickly became a well-known symbol of Paris.

I have a 42-room office complex with pick up vehicles I had wanted to give to NPP – Ken Agyapong reveals

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has announced his decision to withhold all campaign materials he intended to donate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the upcoming 2024 elections. This includes a 42-room office complex and pickups that he had planned to contribute to the party’s campaign efforts.

Agyapong revealed his decision during an interview on the KSM show, citing the mistreatment he endured during the NPP presidential primary in November 2023 as the primary reason behind his action. He expressed disappointment over the abuse he suffered and stated that he had initially planned to donate the office complex and pickups to the eventual winner of the primary, regardless of the outcome.

However, Agyapong emphasized that due to the vilification and mistreatment he faced during the primary, he has decided to retain the campaign materials for his own use. He expressed bitterness over the lack of intervention from party leaders to address the attacks against him, suggesting tacit approval of his mistreatment.

“This building, we have 42 offices, my intention was if I lose after a civil campaign, I would give it to the winner to use as a campaign office. All my campaign things, you’ve seen some of them sitting there, I will give them to the winner to support. But the way they vilified me, I’ve stayed quiet and allowed them to do whatever they are doing. These pickups, I am not going to use them for anything but I am not going to give them to anybody, I will keep them here,” Agyapong stressed during the interview.

Agyapong’s decision reflects the internal divisions within the NPP following the presidential primary, which saw him lose to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is now the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 polls. His withholding of campaign donations underscores the challenges faced by the party in uniting its members and rallying support ahead of the upcoming elections.

Hundreds of people attend London Ukraine March for peace

Many people who support Ukraine walked through central London to show that it has been two years since Russia invaded Ukraine.

People met at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park and then walked to Trafalgar Square for a vigil.

Many people were wearing Ukrainian flags and some were holding signs asking Russia to stop the war.

Since February 2022, the UN says that 10,582 people who are not in the military have died in Ukraine because of Russia’s invasion.

As people marched in the streets, some yelled “support Ukraine” and women wore traditional Ukrainian head wreaths.

Nataliia Rusinko left her husband in the UK to fight against Russian forces. She said it was really difficult because she didn’t know how long she would have to be away and had to leave her husband behind.

Anna said that it was difficult to leave because her friends were still there and they were the only friends she had.

A church service for people of different faiths also happened at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London.

The Bishop for Ukrainian Catholics in Great Britain, Reverend Kenneth Nowakowski, said: “Today, we need to focus on two things. ” I hope that the war will end soon, not just with a ceasefire, but with a win and peace with fairness.

The Church said the events in London and the UK on Saturday were very important. They are asking everyone to come together and stand united against aggression from other countries.

In a sad and meaningful gesture, there were 528 paper angels hanging from the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral’s balcony, one for each Ukrainian child who died in the conflict, as reported by Ukrainian authorities.

Many people at the event wore blue and yellow ribbons or sunflowers, which are symbols of peace and strength. Some also held Ukrainian flags.

As of February 20th this year, over 252,600 visas have been given to people from Ukraine in the UK under different programs. Many people have come to London.

Iryna Terlecky from a group that helps Ukrainians who come to a new place, told the BBC, “The people are very emotional. ” Many of them have experienced very painful and difficult experiences.

“Some people had to move inside Ukraine three or four times. ”

Speaking to BBC London, Housing Minister Felicity Buchan said, “Now is the time to show that we will never let tyranny win. We will support Ukraine today and in the future. ”

“We will help Ukraine as much as we can, for as long as they need us. ”

Ms Rusinko said she will always be thankful to the people in the UK for helping Ukraine and allowing refugees to come live there.

Two kids named Sofia and Katia, with their moms, went to the protest. Sofia is nine and Katia is 12.

Sofia told the BBC about the scary time when she had to leave Kyiv, and Katia remembers running away from Kherson when Russian soldiers took control of the city.

At 4am, my mom told me that the war had begun. Katia said, “I was confused and didn’t understand the war, so I didn’t believe it. ”

She put her things in a bag and was told she couldn’t bring her dog.

After some time, she found out that her grandfather was killed, and people said Russian soldiers did it.

Both the girls are in the UK now, and they are thankful to the country for its support.

“While we were in the car, something exploded close to us and I got scared. My mom told me it was just some fireworks. ” After we were safe, she told me that the shelling was from Russia.

Since February 24, 2022, 10,582 people from Ukraine have died and 19,875 have been hurt, according to the UN. The real numbers could be even higher.

Nana Akomea should be careful what he gets by quoting my interviews – Martin Amidu writes

(See: Ghana: Prodigal Bugri Naabu Quits NDC for Good – allAfrica.com ) .

John Dramani Mahama and Mahamudu Bawumia are both my northern brothers and it is dangerous for both the NDC and the NPP to seek to use what I said or wrote before the Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Siamese twins assumed the governance of this country on 7 January 2017 to date.

I need nothing from John Mahama or Mahamudu Bawumia when either of them wins the 2024 elections just as I took nothing from the Nana Akufo/Bawumia governments. “A word to the wise,” we use to jokingly say at the Bawku Middle Mixed Boarding School in the early 1960’s, “is in the North.”

Zelensky optimistic Ukraine will triumph on its second anniversary

The Ukrainian president Zelensky has expressed optimism about his country’s ability to triumph, pointing to the two-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

“We won’t let Ukraine be destroyed,” said Volodymyr Zelensky in a speech in Kyiv.

Western leaders stood together with him in a show of support.

Ukraine is having a hard time getting Russia to leave its land, and this is happening around the time of the anniversary.

Mr Zelensky said on Saturday that he wants the war to stop, but it can only be on Ukraine’s terms.

“That’s why we always say ‘end of the war’ on our own terms. ” That’s why we always say ‘peace’ and ‘fair’ together.

We are working hard to achieve it. We have already lived for 730 days. “We will win on the happiest day of our life. ”

The leaders of Italy, Belgium, and Canada, along with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, all met with him in Kyiv.

They placed flower garlands at a wall to remember people who died in the war.

However, some important visitors were missing. None of the older US leaders were there, but last year President Joe Biden came to the anniversary.

Mr Zelensky met with a group of Democratic senators led by Chuck Schumer on Friday. He said this showed that Washington supported Ukraine.

Ms von der Leyen said good things about the Ukrainian soldiers who defended their country at the start of the invasion. They surprised people by being able to resist Russia’s invasion force.

“You stopped Russia from attacking the main part of Ukraine. ” She said, “You protected your country, you protected all of Europe. ”

Italy and Canada said they signed agreements with Kyiv to help Ukraine join Nato. This is good for Ukraine’s safety.

After, the G7 countries – Canada, Italy, the UK and US – promised to help Ukraine and agreed to impose new penalties on Russia during a video meeting.

Marches have happened in Europe to show support for Ukraine. The participants asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war.

At least four people were taken by the police in Moscow on Saturday at a protest against the war. The protest was organized by wives of soldiers who had been called to duty.

Protests like this don’t happen often because there are many laws in Russia that punish people who speak out against the government.

Ukraine is struggling as the anniversary of Russia’s invasion approaches. Just a week ago, it was announced that soldiers had left the fighting town of Avdiivka, which was a big victory for Russia.

Ukraine’s attempt to fight back didn’t work and they are having trouble getting more help from the US. This is a big problem for them.

At the same time, the battle is still going on. At least four people died in the recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities.

Kyiv hit one of Russia’s big steel factories with a drone on Saturday.

Ukraine has won some battles in the war by sinking Russian warships and shooting down spy planes. But President Zelensky’s promised victory still seems a long way off.

  • Martin Amidu lambasts Nana Akomea over Kwetey’s ‘attack’ on Bawumia

NANA AKOMEA SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHAT HE GETS BY QUOTING MY

INTERVIEWS OR ARTICLES WHEN CANDIDATES NANA AKUFO-ADDO/

    BAWUMIA WERE GHANA’S PERCEIVED ANTI-CORRUPTION MESSIAHS & REDEEMERS: BY MARTIN A. B. K. AMIDU

US and UK launch new attacks on Houthi in Yemeni

The Pentagon says that fighter planes from the US and UK attacked 18 Houthi sites in Yemen. This is the fourth time that the two countries have worked together on such an operation.

The US targeted storage places, drones, defense systems, radars, and a helicopter of the militant group in Saturday’s strikes.

The UK says that the allies worked to make the Houthi group weaker.

The Iran-supported Houthis are continuously attacking ships in the Red Sea, which is a major trade route.

The Houthis, who are in charge of a lot of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, have been attacking ships that they believe are connected to Israel and the Western countries in reaction to the ongoing war between Israel and Gaza.

The way products are shipped around the world is being affected because some big shipping companies are changing their routes to avoid the Red Sea. This is causing problems and making it more expensive to ship things.

The Pentagon said it attacked 18 Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday. The targets were where the Houthi group stored weapons and missiles, as well as air defense systems.

“These targeted attacks are meant to stop the Houthis from being able to threaten global trade, ships, and the lives of innocent people in a very important waterway. ”

The Houthis have attacked more than 45 ships since mid-November. This is a threat to the world economy, as well as the safety and stability of the region. It needs a response from the international community.

The strikes were done with help from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, according to the statement.

Soon after, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said that America will not wait to act if necessary to protect lives and keep trade moving freely in one of the world’s most important waterways.

UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said that it is our job to keep people safe at sea and ensure that ships can move freely.

“That’s why the Royal Air Force attacked Houthi military targets in Yemen for a fourth time. ”

Earlier today, the US military said they destroyed seven Houthi missiles that were going to be used to attack ships.

A few days ago, the crew of a cargo ship from Belize and registered in the UK left their ship in Yemen because it was hit by missiles from the Houthis.

  • Women participate in Japan’s (almost) naked festival after 1,250 years

Women participate in Japan’s (almost) naked festival after 1,250 years

Many half-naked men are chanting as they push and jostle their way towards the shrine. “Washoi Washoi” they scream – come on, let’s go.

For 1,250 years, the Naked Festival at Konomiya Shrine in central Japan has hardly changed. It’s a yearly event.

But this year something big is different.

Apart from the group of men, another group of women are going to be the first ones to participate.

The women here know they are doing something important that will be remembered. In Japan, it’s really hard for women to find a place in places that are usually for men. Last year, Japan was ranked 125 out of 146 countries for gender equality.

    They were always there.

“Atsuko Tamakoshi, whose family has been working at the Konomiya festival for a long time, says that women have always worked very hard behind the scenes to help the men during the festival. ”

However, it seems like no one has ever thought of participating in the festival where men try to drive away evil spirits and pray for happiness at the shrine.

Naruhito Tsunoda says there has never been a real ban. No one had ever asked before.

And when they tried, they found the answer quickly.

“I think it’s important for everyone to have a fun festival. ” I believe that God would also be very pleased with that,” he told news agency Reuters.

Not everyone in the community was as friendly.

“Many people were worried about us joining in. They asked, ‘Why are women in a men’s festival. ‘ and said, ‘This festival is for men, it’s important,’” said Tamakoshi, a 56-year-old grandmother.

But we all agreed on what we wanted to do together. We thought that if we were honest, God would take care of us.

The women waiting are truly honest. They are not naked.

Instead of wearing loincloths, many people are wearing long purple robes called “happi coats” and white shorts. They are also carrying their own bamboo offerings.

They won’t be in the rush with the men to the shrine or pushing and shoving to touch the chosen man at the shrine. The tradition says that touching him is supposed to make evil spirits go away.

    This moment is still important.

“I think things have really changed now,” Yumiko Fujie tells the media. “But I also feel like I have to do my part. ”

These women are not just breaking rules about men and women by taking part. They are also continuing to do things the same way as before.

This week, a festival where people are naked at Kokuseki Temple in Japan’s north said it would be the last time they have this festival. There were not enough young people to continue the festival.

Japan has a lot of old people compared to other countries. This past year, over 10% of people were 80 years old or older for the first time. At the same time, there were only 800,000 babies born last year and each woman on average had only 1. 3

It’s time for the women to go to the shrine.

They stand in two straight lines and hold long bamboo sticks with red and white ribbons wrapped around them.

Atsuko Tamakoshi is in the front, using her whistle to start the rhythmic chant that the men have been saying for a long time.

“The women are shouting ‘Washoi Washoi’. ”

The women are concentrating on the moves and speed that they have been practicing for weeks. They understand that they must do this correctly.

Knowing that the media and people are watching them, they are smiling nervously but also excited.

The people watching are cheering and telling the person to keep going, even though it’s very cold.

They go into the courtyard of the Konomiya Shinto shrine and get sprayed with cold water, just like the men. It seems to make them even more energetic.

After their gift is approved, the women finish the ceremony by doing two bows, two claps, and one last bow, which is the traditional way to say goodbye.

And then, I realize how big this moment is. The women started cheering, jumping, hugging, and crying in excitement. “Thank you very much. Thank you” They say to each other and the crowd claps for them.

“I cried a lot,” Michiko Ikai says. “I didn’t think I could do it, but now I feel proud of myself. ”

As the women leave the shrine, people from the public want to take pictures with them and media want to ask them questions. They willingly agree.

“I did it. ” “I am very happy,” Mineko Akahori tells the media. “I’m very thankful that I, as a woman, could take part for the first time. ”

Her friend Minako Ando says it’s great to be the first to do something like this.

“Hiromo Maeda says that things are changing. ” Her family has been operating a small hotel that has accommodated some of the men attending the local festival for the past 30 years.

“I believe we both pray for the same things. ” Gender doesn’t make a difference. We both love the same thing.

Atsuko Tamakoshi has been important today, and now she can think about what they have all accomplished together. She feels happy and emotional.

“My husband always joins in this festival,” she tells the media. “I always watched from the sidelines. ” I am very thankful and happy right now.

  • MP raises concerns over National Security Coordinator’s involvement in partisan politics

MP raises concerns over National Security Coordinator’s involvement in partisan politics

Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has voiced apprehension over the dual role of Edward Asomani, the National Security Coordinator, who has been named as the head of the security committee for the manifesto team of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 presidential bid.

In a statement, Kwame Governs Agbodza has questioned the appropriateness of a high-ranking security official engaging in partisan political activities. Agbodza’s concern revolves around the potential conflict of interest that arises when a figure like Asomani, occupying a pivotal security position, assumes a leadership role within the political sphere.

The controversy ignited when Asomani was identified as the head of the security committee within Vice President Bawumia’s manifesto team, as disclosed in a release from the Bawumia for President 2024 campaign on February 22nd. This revelation prompted Agbodza to challenge the integrity and impartiality of Asomani’s involvement in the political arena.

Asomani’s appointment as National Security Coordinator in 2022 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo marked a significant elevation in his career trajectory, transitioning from his prior role as deputy. His ascent to this critical security post underscores the gravity of Agbodza’s concerns, as it implies a responsibility to remain apolitical and prioritize national security interests above all else.

The composition of the security committee further complicates matters, with notable figures from the defense and interior ministries, as well as a former interior minister and retired police chief, serving alongside Asomani. The inclusion of such esteemed individuals underscores the importance of maintaining a nonpartisan approach to matters of national security.

Agbodza’s inquiry raises broader questions about the intersection of security and politics within Ghana’s governance structure. As the nation gears up for the 2024 presidential elections, the issue of impartiality and integrity within key government institutions becomes increasingly paramount.

In response to Agbodza’s concerns, the Bawumia for President 2024 campaign emphasized Asomani’s credentials and leadership abilities within the security domain. However, the lingering skepticism surrounding Asomani’s simultaneous involvement in political affairs underscores the need for transparency and accountability in Ghana’s security apparatus.

Three women fatally stabbed in brothel as knifeman goes on rampage

Three women in a brothel were fatally stabbed by an individual with a knife.

Blood spots were on the ground outside after an attack at a brothel near the Danube River in Vienna, Austria on Friday night.

The murderer was said to walk around from one room to another inside the Asia Studio.

A 27-year-old person from Afghanistan who is seeking safety in another country was taken into custody near a place where people pay for sex, and they had a knife on them that might have been used in the attacks.

The police found another woman in the brothel and they were talking to her to get information.

She might have heard the attack while hiding in a room that was locked.

We don’t know the names of the three victims yet.

Brothels are allowed in Austria, and the Asia Studio is in the 20th district of Vienna, which is one of the city’s poorest areas.

The place says it is a place for erotic massages.

  • 4 radio stations shut down in Bawku over security concerns

In response to the escalating tensions and violence in Bawku, Upper East Region, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced the closure of four FM radio stations in the area. Bawku FM, Source FM, Zahra FM, and Gumah FM have been shut down effective Saturday, February 24, 2024.

The decision to close the radio stations follows recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council, in conjunction with advice from the Ministry of National Security. The NCA stated that the operations of the aforementioned FM stations were deemed to have contributed to the escalation of the Bawku conflict, resulting in loss of lives and property in the region.

In a press release dated February 24, 2024, the NCA cited the “incendiary utterances” made by panelists and presenters on these stations as a factor in exacerbating the conflict. Consequently, the NCA invoked its powers under Section 13(1)(e) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which allows for the suspension or revocation of licenses or frequency authorizations in cases where national security or public interest is at stake.

The closure of the FM stations is intended to mitigate further escalation of tensions and violence in Bawku and its environs. The NCA emphasized that the decision was taken in the interest of public safety and national security.

The shutdown of the radio stations underscores the critical role of media responsibility in conflict-sensitive areas. While freedom of expression is fundamental, it must be exercised responsibly, especially in contexts where tensions are high. The NCA’s action serves as a reminder of the need for media outlets to adhere to ethical standards and refrain from disseminating content that incites violence or exacerbates existing conflicts.

The closure of the FM stations is expected to have an impact on the flow of information in the Bawku area. However, the NCA’s priority is to restore peace and stability, and it is hoped that this measure will contribute to achieving that goal. The affected stations and their stakeholders are urged to cooperate with authorities and adhere to the directives issued by the NCA.

King’s illness “may be more dangerous than we have been led to believe” – Expert

King Charles has started making a plan for who will take over after him. This has made people worried that his cancer might be more serious than they thought.

Earlier this month, Charles said he found out he has cancer after going to the hospital for a problem with his enlarged prostate.

The King has cancer, but people don’t know what kind. He found it early and has been getting treatment regularly.

However, because of the problem, the King has decided to start making plans for who will take over after him earlier than he planned. He wants Prince William to be a big part of these plans, which has sparked rumors that the King’s illness might be more serious than we thought.

Tom Quinn, a Royal expert and writer, told the Mirror that Charles knows William is very important for future king plans. Officials thought Charles would be healthy until his mid-eighties before they started planning for the future king. But now they have started planning, which might mean Charles’ cancer is more serious than we thought.

Succession planning is kept secret because nobody trusts Harry to be involved. They think he will go to the media if he is not happy with what he gets.

Prince Harry’s book called Spare caused big problems in the royal family after it came out in January 2023. In the book, he said some shocking things about his family and said mean things about his dad and brother.

Mr Quinn said something after Harry said he was ready to help his father for a short time while he is getting treated.

The Duke of Sussex said he will be visiting the UK soon after visiting his father earlier this month.

Prince Harry and his father may make up, but only if his father asks him himself.

A person close to the royal family said that if Harry’s father needed help, Harry would do his best to help him. They said that they don’t think Harry would say no if his dad asked for his help.

But the person who knows a lot about Harry said: “I don’t think Harry would do that by himself. “

According to the current plan, Harry is the fifth person in line to become king. Prince William is next to be the king, and after him, it will be his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

According to the current plan, Harry is the fifth person in line to become king. Prince William is next to be the king, and after him, it will be his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

PAC Chairman warns GRA boss of legal liability for contract lapse

Chairman of the Public Accounts Committeet (PAC), James Klutse Avedzi has issued a stern warning to the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev. Ammishadai Owusu-Amoah, cautioning him that he will be personally held liable for working without the renewal of his contract.

The warning comes in the wake of a public revelation made by Rev. Ammishadai during a parliamentary session, where he disclosed that his two-year contract had expired without renewal. This disclosure followed a tense exchange between the GRA boss and Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, who had queried Rev. Ammishadai about his age.

In response to the questioning, Rev. Ammishadai hesitated to provide a straight answer, prompting further scrutiny from committee members. Eventually, he admitted that his contract, granted after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60, had lapsed without renewal.

Chairman James Klutse Avedzi, in an interview with EIB Network‘s Parliamentary Correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan, emphasized that Rev. Ammishadai would be held accountable if he continued to occupy his position without a valid contract. Avedzi justified his decision to allow the public interest question, asserting that transparency regarding the status of public officers is paramount.

Furthermore, Avedzi clarified that while individuals above retirement age can be engaged for up to five years, the failure to renew Rev. Ammishadai’s contract raises legal concerns. He questioned why the Commissioner General had not been offered another contract after the expiration of his initial two-year term.

Despite acknowledging that the GRA boss may not be responsible for the contract renewal process, Avedzi stressed that working without a valid contract constitutes a violation of the law. He underscored that the responsibility for contract renewal lies with the appointing authority, and failure to adhere to legal protocols could result in personal liability for Rev. Ammishadai.

The warning from the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee highlights the importance of adherence to legal procedures and transparency in public office appointments. It serves as a reminder to public officers of their obligations under the law and the consequences of operating without valid contracts.

  • Martin Amidu warns NPP and NDC against exploiting his name in 2024 campaign

Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has issued a stern warning to both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging them not to involve him in their campaign strategies for the upcoming 2024 elections in Ghana.

In a recent write-up dated February 23, 2024, Amidu emphasized that he refuses to be dragged into the political agendas of either party, cautioning that any attempts to do so may lead to dire consequences. He emphasized that his patience has limits and hinted at potential explosive reactions if his name continues to be exploited for political gain.

Amidu, who served notice through a statement copied to MyNewsGh.com, highlighted that even President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is aware of his unwavering stance and would not dare provoke him. Having been a part of both the current regime and the previous NDC government, Amidu asserted his independence and warned that he would not hesitate to speak out if his name or past actions were used as reference points in the electioneering campaigns.

“I have stated elsewhere that the 2024 presidential election is going to be a contest between the lesser of two evils under the 1992 Constitution. In making that decision the non-sycophantic reasonable electorate may have to weigh the effects of the biblical and koranic edicts on punishment and repentance, and continued sin camouflaged with polished deception,” he remarked.

Moreover, Amidu emphasized the danger of exploiting his words or writings from the pre-Akufo-Addo/Bawumia era, cautioning both the NDC and the NPP against using them for their own political gains. He hinted at his potential knowledge of sensitive matters within the current regime, suggesting that he could be privy to information that others may not fully comprehend.

“Remember that I worked with this regime and may be privy to things Nana Akomea and his like cannot fathom. Nana Akufo-Addo knows how lethal I could be if the NPP puts temptation in my path,” he concluded.

Amidu’s warning underscores the delicate political landscape in Ghana as the country approaches the 2024 elections. His insistence on neutrality and refusal to be manipulated for political purposes serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity and independence in the electoral process.

  • Afua Asantewaa did not observe guidelines around rest break timings – GWR explains

Afua Asantewaa did not observe guidelines around rest break timings – GWR explains

Guinness World Records (GWR) has provided clarity on the disqualification of Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum for her Sing-A-Thon attempt as an individual in December 2023.

According to GWR, Afua’s disqualification stemmed from “guidelines around rest break timings not being met,” which they assert is a standard rule across all of their longest marathon records.

The explanation came in response to an inquiry from Ghana Business News regarding Afua Asantewaa’s disqualification. The news outlet had sought clarification on the verdict and whether it had been communicated to Aduonum.

In their response, a spokesperson for GWR stated, “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the Longest Singing Marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”

The main reason cited for disqualifying Afua’s attempt was the failure to adhere to guidelines regarding rest break timings, a standard rule applied to all GWR longest marathon records.

Afua Asantewaa had aimed to break the current record set by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012. Despite her valiant effort, she completed the longest singing marathon as an individual at 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023.

In response to the GWR’s official publication of her disqualification, Afua took to her Facebook page to express her gratitude for the support she received and hinted at announcing her next course of action in the coming days.

Her Sing-A-Thon attempt garnered significant attention and admiration, solidifying her as an inspirational figure. Many supporters hope that GWR will reconsider and declare Afua’s marathon as qualified for the certificate she had aimed for.

Despite the setback, Afua’s determination and perseverance have resonated with many, affirming her status as a winner in the eyes of her supporters. She has shown that with dedication and resolve, she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to, regardless of external validation.

  • Cape Coast takes action against plastic menace with inauguration of recycling plant

Cape Coast takes action against plastic menace with inauguration of recycling plant

The coastal city of Cape Coast in Ghana has taken a significant step in addressing the escalating issue of plastic waste with the inauguration of a waste to resource collection and preprocessing plant.

The facility, located at OLA Kojokrom, marks a pivotal moment in the city’s efforts to combat environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.

Over the years, the proliferation of plastic usage, particularly by water bottling and sachet companies, coupled with the shift towards plastic packaging in malls and shops, has led to a surge in plastic waste generation. This unchecked disposal of plastics has had devastating effects on the environment, with plastics littering streets, clogging drainage systems, and polluting water bodies.

The impact of plastic waste on Cape Coast’s coastal communities and fishermen has been particularly concerning, with nets often catching more plastics than fish, jeopardizing livelihoods and endangering aquatic life. Additionally, the release of microplastics into water bodies from plastic waste poses a significant threat to the environment and public health.

Recognizing the urgent need to address the plastic waste menace, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) has taken proactive steps to tackle the issue. Environmental Officer Iddris Shani highlighted the assembly’s efforts to impose stiffer punishments for offenders and manage waste more efficiently. However, limited financial resources have hindered the establishment of a recycling plant and comprehensive waste management system.

The inauguration of the recycling plant, spearheaded by Caritas with support from City Waste Recycling Limited, the German Development Cooperation, and an Austrian group, represents a ray of hope in Cape Coast’s battle against plastic pollution. The facility, which will be managed by Caritas, aims to collect and recycle plastic waste from schools and institutions, thereby mitigating the environmental impact of plastics and promoting sustainable waste management practices.

The ceremony, attended by selected primary, junior high, and senior high school students, underscored the importance of youth involvement in environmental conservation efforts. Rev. Fr. Stephen Amoah-Gyasi emphasized the need for collective action to combat plastic waste and urged institutions to support the recycling plant’s operations by supplying waste plastics.

The initiative received widespread support from dignitaries and community leaders, who pledged to sustain efforts to keep Cape Coast’s environment clean and healthy. Most Rev. Mathias Kobena Nketsiah emphasized the spiritual significance of the recycling plant, calling on individuals to fulfill their responsibility to nurture the environment.

As Cape Coast takes strides towards a cleaner and greener future, the inauguration of the recycling plant represents a pivotal moment in the city’s journey towards sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Through concerted efforts and community engagement, Cape Coast aims to turn the tide against plastic pollution and create a healthier environment for future generations.

  • Governance expert warns of potential interference in Finance Ministry’s operations amid Ofori-Atta’s new appointment

Governance expert warns of potential interference in Finance Ministry’s operations amid Ofori-Atta’s new appointment

Renowned governance expert, Prof Baffour Agyeman-Duah, has voiced concerns over the newly appointed role of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, suggesting that there could be potential interference with the duties of the current Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam.

During an interaction with the media, Prof Agyeman-Duah expressed apprehension that Ofori-Atta‘s new position could lead to overlap and ambiguity in the administration of financial matters, particularly in international engagements such as debt negotiations and loan arrangements.

His concern remarks come in the wake of President Akufo-Addo’s reshuffling of cabinet ministers, which saw Ofori-Atta receiving a new portfolio as Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance & Private Sector Investments.

Giving his submission on the development, the Professor emphasized the importance of clarity and coordination in government roles to ensure effective governance.

“The question is whether this is going to overshadow the work of the new Finance Minister, because as the new Finance Minister, he is leading the country in meeting our international obligations and negotiations on that,” Agyeman-Duah remarked.

Mr Ofori-Atta’s appointment as Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance & Private Sector Investments was announced in a letter dated February 15, 2024, signed by the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare. The letter congratulated Ofori-Atta on his reassignment and wished him success in his new role.

Reacting to his replacement, the outgoing Finance Minister expressed confidence in Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, describing him as a “blessing for the future of Ghana.” In a release, Ofori-Atta lauded Adam’s leadership qualities and called for unity and diligence in supporting the new Finance Minister.

“We all know him as a smart, humble and inclusive leader. Let me state with all humility that nothing would honour me and the ‘Office of the Minister’ more than for you to work with renewed diligence to guide Hon. Amin and our nation to the successful execution of the IMF-ECF programme to promote economic growth and transformation,” Ofori-Atta stated.

  • More young people in Ghana are getting strokes – Ghana Society of Cardiology

More young people in Ghana are getting strokes – Ghana Society of Cardiology

The Ghana Society of Cardiology has issued a stark warning about the alarming increase in stroke cases among young people, attributing the trend to unhealthy lifestyle choices and sedentary habits.

As the incidence of cardiovascular diseases continues to rise, the Society is intensifying its efforts to educate the public on the risks associated with poor lifestyle choices and the importance of regular physical activity.

Speaking at the annual general scientific meeting held in Accra on February 22, 2024, Dr Francis Agyekum, Vice President of the Ghana Society of Cardiology, highlighted the concerning shift in demographics affected by cardiovascular diseases, particularly stroke. He noted that while such diseases were previously associated with older age groups in wealthier nations, Ghana is witnessing a troubling increase in cases among the productive age group.

“Our patients are younger if you compare that to the United States or the UK. My youngest patient that came with a heart attack was 27 years old,” Dr. Agyekum remarked, underlining the severity of the issue.

According to Dr. Agyekum, lifestyle changes, particularly dietary habits, play a significant role in the rise of cardiovascular diseases. He emphasized the prevalence of processed and fast foods in modern diets, accompanied by a decline in the consumption of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, sedentary lifestyles characterized by minimal physical activity further exacerbate the risk of cardiovascular ailments.

“People are now eating more energy-dense meals, fast foods, cholesterol, excessive salt intake. People are eating less of fruits and vegetables. People are not exercising,” Dr. Agyekum lamented, highlighting the detrimental impact of these lifestyle factors.

In response to these concerns, the Ghana Society of Cardiology is advocating for increased awareness of the risks associated with unhealthy lifestyles and the importance of regular check-ups for early detection of cardiovascular diseases. By empowering individuals to make healthier choices and prioritize physical activity, the Society aims to stem the tide of cardiovascular diseases and improve public health outcomes.

As the nation grapples with the growing burden of cardiovascular diseases, the call to action from the Ghana Society of Cardiology serves as a timely reminder of the urgent need for collective efforts to promote heart health and combat the underlying causes of stroke and other cardiovascular ailments.

Member of  NDC’s National Communications Team, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, has emphasized the imperative of transparency regarding the utilization of funds, particularly the $12 million associated with the agreement.

Allotey’s statement underscores growing concerns among citizens and stakeholders regarding the opacity surrounding the Agyapa deal, which involves the securitization of Ghana’s gold royalties. In his submission on the matter during an interaction of Peace FM’s Korkrokoo, Prof Smart noted that the move was timely and laudable considering the fact that the Majority Leader would not return to Parliament after the December 7, 2024, general elections.

  • Charles Owusu challenges Mahama to clarify 24-hour economy policy

Charles Owusu challenges Mahama to clarify 24-hour economy policy

An independent parliamentary candidate for Nkoranza North, Charles Owusu, has issued a challenge to former President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to provide detailed clarifications on his proposed 24-hour economy policy in a public lecture.

Owusu’s call comes amidst concerns over the clarity and feasibility of the policy, particularly regarding its implementation and practical implications.

The 24-hour economy policy, a centerpiece of Mahama’s campaign as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has drawn scrutiny from various quarters, with some questioning its coherence and effectiveness. Owusu, in particular, has criticized the explanations provided by NDC communicators, labeling them as confusing and insufficient to grasp the essence of the policy.

Mahama’s proposal envisions a Ghanaian economy that operates around the clock, with incentives and tax breaks for manufacturers to run extra shifts aimed at boosting employment opportunities.

However, Charles Owusu contends that the lack of clarity surrounding the policy raises doubts about its practicality and relevance, especially in industries where demand does not justify round-the-clock operations.

“Mahama should mount the stage and tell us what his 24-hour economy is about,” Owusu demanded, echoing calls for the former president to provide comprehensive insights into the policy’s objectives and mechanisms.

Owusu further highlighted the importance of demand-supply dynamics in the success of a 24-hour economy, emphasizing that industries and individuals must have compelling reasons to extend their operating hours. He raised questions about the feasibility of implementing such a policy in sectors where demand fluctuations do not warrant continuous operations.

The independent candidate’s remarks were made during an appearance on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” Morning Show, where he challenged the practicality of Mahama’s proposal and called for a clearer exposition of its rationale and implementation strategy.

Owusu’s critique underscores broader concerns within the electorate regarding the NDC’s policy platform and the need for transparent and comprehensive explanations from political leaders. As the 2024 elections draw closer, the clarity and coherence of campaign promises are expected to play a significant role in shaping voter perceptions and electoral outcomes.

  • Mahama accuses NPP of resorting to lies and propaganda against 24-hour economy proposal

Mahama accuses NPP of resorting to lies and propaganda against 24-hour economy proposal

Former President John Dramani Mahama and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to undermine his main policy proposal for the 2024 elections, the 24-hour economy policy.

Mr Mahama asserted that the NPP’s response to this proposal has been marked by misinformation and propaganda, signaling what he described as an “uneasy calm” within the ruling party.

He claimed that the widespread acceptance of the 24-hour economy policy has unsettled the NPP, prompting them to resort to deceitful tactics in a bid to discredit the proposal in the eyes of the Ghanaian public.

He further emphasized that Ghanaians, having learned from past experiences, would not be swayed by such tactics, recognizing them as attempts by the NPP to maintain their grip on power through falsehoods.

“The widespread acceptance of the 24-hour policy appears to have sent the NPP campaign into a tailspin, leading to a serious effort to attack it through colony and disinformation in these last few days. But fortified with the knowledge that the days when the NPP assumed that they could use falsehood to deceive Ghanaians for electoral advantage are over,” Mahama stated.

Mahama further asserted that Ghanaians would not believe the NPP, particularly in light of what he described as their “horrific performance” during their seven years in power. He expressed confidence that the electorate would see through the NPP’s tactics and make informed decisions during the upcoming elections.

The NDC’s Policy Dialogue, held on February 22, 2024, aimed to discuss the party’s policy priorities for the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 7, 2024, with a specific focus on the 24-hour economy proposal. The event brought together approximately 200 experts, drawn from the Minority Caucus of Parliament and the Social Democratic LAB thematic groups, covering areas such as human development, finance, economy, and governance.

Mahama’s remarks underscore the intensifying political climate in Ghana as parties gear up for the upcoming elections, with policy proposals and their reception becoming focal points of debate and contention.

As the campaign season progresses, both the NDC and the NPP are expected to continue advocating for their respective platforms while engaging in robust exchanges over the direction of the country’s future policies and governance.

UK reiterates support for Ukraine on war’s anniversary

UK leaders have once again promised to help Ukraine two years after Russia invaded them.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to do whatever is necessary and dedicated nearly £250 million to make artillery shells.

King Charles said Ukrainian people are very strong and are facing a lot of difficult times.

It happens one day after the UK said they will punish Russia more.

Mr Sunak, who went to Kyiv recently to make a new security agreement and promise £2. 5bn of military help to Ukraine over the next year, said “we must stay strong and determined” on this “sad anniversary”.

“This is the time to show that we won’t let tyranny win, and to say that we will support Ukraine now and in the future,” he said.

“We are ready to do whatever we need to do, for as long as it takes, until they win. ”

The Defense Secretary, Grant Shapps, said that the UK government is really committed to supporting Ukraine.

He said Ukraine really needs ammunition right now, and Parliament is all in agreement on supporting Ukraine, even if they disagree on other issues.

Mr Shapps said bad things will happen if Western countries don’t help Ukraine. He also said the world won’t be safe unless we stop leaders like Putin.

The leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer, said that President Vladimir Putin’s “being scared and cruel” will not win.

Leaders from countries like Canada, Italy, and Belgium, as well as the head of the EU Commission, went to Kyiv to show their support.

Previous leader of the UK, Boris Johnson, also joined them. Mr Johnson said that during his visit to Kyiv, he is confident that the Ukrainians will succeed in getting rid of Putin’s forces.

He said that Ukraine can only do it with the military, political, and economic help they need.

A new package was announced on Saturday. It includes £245m to replenish Kyiv’s artillery ammunition reserves. This is important for Ukraine’s resistance, as there have been shortages of ammunition recently.

Mr Sunak said Ukraine has pushed back the Russian invaders and recaptured half of the land that Putin took, despite facing difficult circumstances.

The Royal Air Force finished delivering anti-tank missiles, as they said they would.

The prime minister said something after the Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron told the United Nations to be careful and not give up.

He spoke at the UN in New York and said we need to understand the consequences of giving up.

Putin said there won’t be peace until Russia reaches its goals.

The leader of another country asked the US Congress to support giving more military help to Ukraine.

The US has given the most weapons and money to Ukraine during the fighting, says the Kiel Institute.

However, a bill that would provide nearly $60 billion in military support may not be approved by Congress because some Republicans in the House of Representatives are against it.

This week, the UK put in place new punishments for people and groups that are supporting Russia’s military. They also targeted six prison leaders after the death of a critic of Russian president Putin and his war in Ukraine.

Although, Sir Keir Starmer is aiming to become the Prime Minister after the upcoming general election this year. He said that the UK will help Kyiv, no matter who is leading the country.

“He said the strength of the Ukrainian people has impressed and touched the world. ”

“The UK and our friends will support them until they win. ”

On Saturday, the First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, said that Scotland strongly supports Ukraine. He will be joining other political and religious leaders at a service.

He said Ukrainians are fighting for freedom, fairness, and the right for European countries to live together in peace and safety.

The fighting in Ukraine has been at a deadlock for a while now, but it looks like Russia has made some progress lately.

Over the weekend, Ukrainian soldiers left the city of Avdiivka in the east. They had been fighting against a strong Russian attack for four months, even though there were not as many of them and they did not have as many weapons.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is going to talk to leaders from G7 on the computer. He wants countries like the US and UK to give Ukraine more weapons. If they don’t, Russia might feel more confident to do bad things.

More than 50 countries, including the UK, are asking Russia to stop fighting Ukraine and remove all of its military forces and weapons from Ukraine’s territory.

Tension erupts at Kumasi High Court 2 as Prison Officer attempts to draw gun on family of Adum murder victim

Tension gripped the premises of Kumasi High Court 2 on Tuesday as a dramatic altercation unfolded between a prison officer and the family members of the late Victoria Dapaa, known as Maadwoa, who was tragically murdered by Inspector Ahmed Twumasi.

The incident, captured in a video making rounds on social media, depicts a scene fraught with emotion and hostility.

The situation escalated when the accused police officer, Inspector Twumasi, was being escorted by prison officers into a vehicle following a court proceeding.

Amidst a barrage of insults directed at the accused, a ward officer made a startling move, attempting to draw his firearm in a bid to quell the rising tensions.

Fortunately, swift intervention by a fellow officer prevented the situation from escalating further, averting potential tragedy within the court premises.

The case, which has attracted significant public attention, has been adjourned until March 20, 2024. During the upcoming session, audio exhibits will be presented to the court, offering insight into conversations that occurred prior to Maadwoa’s untimely demise.

Abusuapanin Nana Addo Barimah, who provided insights into the courtroom proceedings, condemned the actions of the ward officer and issued a stern warning against any further threats to the safety of the bereaved family members.

In interviews with reporters, aggrieved family members expressed deep disappointment over the conduct of the prison officer and vowed to take decisive action should such behavior be repeated during future court sessions.

The incident underscores the palpable tensions surrounding the trial and the profound impact of Maadwoa’s tragic death on her loved ones. As the legal proceedings continue, stakeholders are urged to exercise restraint and uphold the principles of justice and accountability.

Ghana needs fasting and prayers – Ablakwa reacts to Ofori-Atta’s new appointment

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged Ghanaians to embark on fervent fasting and prayer for the country following the reappointment of former Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a statement shared on social media on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Ablakwa expressed concern that Ofori-Atta‘s new role as a presidential advisor and special envoy would grant him unchecked authority, as Parliament lacks oversight responsibilities over such positions.

Highlighting past instances of alleged financial impropriety, Ablakwa accused Ofori-Atta of utilizing taxpayers’ money without parliamentary approval during his tenure as finance minister.

“Take note that Presidential Advisors and Special Envoys are not accountable to Parliament and cannot be summoned to answer parliamentary questions for their actions,” Ablakwa stated.

He further criticized President Akufo-Addo for purportedly disregarding the economic challenges facing the country, accusing him of expanding the size of government instead of implementing austerity measures.

“It is also very troubling and most insensitive on the part of President Akufo-Addo that in this time of economic crisis and excruciating hardships when many Ghanaians expected him to take advantage of his belated reshuffle to reduce the size of his bloated government, the numbers are rather going up with many sacked ministers returning either as presidential advisors, ministers of state at the presidency or advisors to ministers,” Ablakwa asserted.

The MP’s remarks come in the wake of reports confirming Ofori-Atta’s reappointment into the government. According to a letter from the Office of the President signed by Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Ofori-Atta has been appointed as a senior advisor and envoy on capital markets.

“I am pleased to inform you that the President of the Republic has appointed you as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments,” the letter stated.

As the nation grapples with economic challenges and political developments, Ablakwa’s call for spiritual intervention underscores growing concerns over governance and accountability in Ghana.

People don’t get your 24-hour economy…come again – Mahama told

A Senior Research Fellow of the Kumasi Technical University, Professor Smart Sarpong, has asked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to provide a better explanation of the 24-hour economy proposed by former President John Dramani Mahama

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, Prof Smart noted that Ghanaians have been plunged into a state of confusion given the various conflicting explanations offered by members of the NDC.

Giving his submission, he lauded the policy, however, he contended that the various conflicting explanations are marring its beauty.

He, thus, entreated the party to come clear on the subject so that Ghanaians can have a serious conversion on it.

“Those who are explaining do not seem to have a full grasp of the policy. it also If it is that serious, let’s have a serious conversation about it,” he said.

Ex-president Marzouki sentenced to eight years imprisonment by Tunisian court

A court in Tunisia has given former President Moncef Marzouki an eight-year prison sentence, even though he was not present in court. He was accused of attacking the state security and encouraging people in Tunisia to fight against each other, a court official said.

Marzouki, who lives in Paris, has been sent to prison for the second time. He was given a four-year sentence in 2021 when he was in absentia.

Mohamed Zitouna, who speaks for the Tunisian court, said Marzouki was found guilty because of things he said in a speech in Paris that caused trouble, but he didn’t give more information about it.

Marzouki was the president from 2011 to 2014. He strongly opposes President Kais Saied.

In 2021, Saied shut down Parliament, fired the government, and started making decisions on his own. Some people, like Marzouki and other leaders of the opposing group, called it a coup.

The president of Tunisia said that he didn’t do anything wrong when he increased his power in 2022. He claimed it was necessary to stop the country from being chaotic for many years.

Many leaders of opposition groups were taken by the police in the past year. This includes Rached Ghannouchi, who leads the Islamist Ennahda party, and Abir Moussi, the leader of Free Constitutional.

Last year, government arrested several well-known opposition leaders for allegedly planning to harm the country’s safety.

The opposition says that Saied is silencing the media and being a strict ruler. They also think that his changes to the constitution have damaged the democracy that was created after the 2011 revolution.

Saied said that the accusations against him are not true. He has called his critics bad names like criminals, traitors and terrorists. He also warned that any judge who lets his critics go free will be considered helping them.

  • Types of weapons Ukraine is using to fight Russia

Types of weapons Ukraine is using to fight Russia

Even before Nato started giving military help to Ukraine, there were stories of bravery in the first weeks of Russia’s big war. This shows that Vladimir Putin won’t win quickly like he wanted to.

No one was as impressive as a grandmother in Kyiv who reportedly took down a drone by throwing a jar of pickles at it, causing it to crash to the ground. It’s not clear if this really happened.

In Ukraine, regular people used Molotov cocktails as a way to fight back when their cities were attacked.

Two years later, the Russian army, which is still powerful despite being damaged, just had a big win in the city of Avdiivka. Ukraine now needs more help from the West.

The Russian warship, the Caesar Kunikov, sank after sea drones attacked it near occupied Crimea. At least 89 enemy soldiers were killed in Makiivka when a building they were in was hit by HIMARS rockets.

Ivan Stupak, a person who helps keep Ukraine safe, said to the media that weapons from the West have helped Ukraine in fighting, but having a lot of them is important.

The specialist explained which weapons have really helped in the conflict.

    First Person View Drones

Russia and Ukraine make many FPV drones every year.

In the beginning of the year, Volodymyr Zelensky said that a new part of the military called the Unmanned Systems Forces will be created just for drones.

Mr Stupak has talked media many times about what his country needs to stop Putin’s aggression, and he always says the same thing: FPV drones.

He says it is one of Ukraine’s best weapons, often used in the Kherson region, because it is cheap and easy to make, costing up to $800.

They have different jobs, like spying and watching, but Mr Stupak said they are usually used together, which Russians don’t like.

“It’s a terrible noise in the sky, Russians are not happy about the buzzing,” he said.

Ukraine’s plan is to use two drones together – one to wait for the enemy’s bus and the other to film what happens.

If the first doesn’t work, the second one will do it.

Mr Stupak said we want to make a lot of drones, up to a million by 2024. Regular people can also build them at home with YouTube videos.

FPV drones from different brands and models can fly up to a mile away. This lets pilots see and gather information, and also launch attacks.

The speed usually goes from 19 to 50 miles per hour, and they fly from a few hundred meters to a mile above the ground. Most of the time, about two out of every three soldiers are killed by the enemy’s gunfire.

    HIMARS
HIMARS stands for High Mobility Artillery Rocket System. It is a mobile rocket launcher that can launch missiles from a vehicle.

Made by an American company called Lockheed Martin, HIMARS is short for High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.

The White House gave 39 rocket-launchers with wheels, and Russian forces have not destroyed any of them yet.

We don’t know the exact cost of the rocket system now, but back in 2014, one unit of HIMARS cost about $5. 1

This is a problem that has been causing trouble for Russians in Ukraine.

A few days ago, a Ukrainian attack near the village of Trudovske in occupied Donetsk killed 63 Russian soldiers who were waiting to meet their commander.

HIMARS can shoot rockets and missiles that can travel up to 186 miles. It is put on a very movable M142 Transporter Erector Launcher (TEL) vehicle.

This helps the military move quickly and change position easily, making it more likely to survive and be able to adapt in battle.

Mr Stupak said that unlike old Soviet equipment, HIMARS almost always hits its target on the first try.

    Cluster munitions

Ukraine used cluster munitions from the US to continue their summer offensive, even though they are banned by over 100 countries because of human rights issues.

In August 2023, Ukraine used cluster bombs to free the village of Urozhaine in Donetsk.

Video from a drone showed Russian soldiers leaving while there were at least 12 explosions nearby.

Cluster munitions are big weapons that release lots of smaller bombs.

Mr Stupak said they are usually used against enemy soldiers coming towards them and the small bombs can spread out over an area as big as a football field.

One big problem with cluster bombs is that they can hurt or kill many people without being careful about who they hit.

Submunitions may not explode when they hit the ground, and they can stay there as a danger to people even after a war is over.

Drones that can move in the ocean.

Ukraine’s Sea Baby drones were used for the first time to attack the Russian-built Kerch Bridge in 2022.

Sea drones are different from flying drones. They work in or under the water and have been getting better since the start of the war.

Mr Stupak said they were very advanced but also cost a lot of money.

Some reports say that just the communication system costs around $300,000.

But he said that Ukraine is at an advantage because a sea drone attacked the $300 million Caesar Kunikov in the Black Sea.

‘There was no way to compare.
