  • Adu Boahen’s dismissal swift but not enough – Ghana Integrity Initiative

The programs Manager at the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Mary Addah has lauded the President’s swift action to dismiss Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.

Mr. Boahen was dismissed after it emerged he allegedly said Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia could be paid $200,000 as an appearance fee to set up a meeting with investors.

Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News, Madam Addah praised the swiftness with which the dismissal letter was issued, saying it is a major tool for fighting speculations which is unhealthy for the fight against corruption.

“The president acting swiftly is critical to fighting corruption because some of these cases usually come up and not much action is taken and this fuels some of the speculation and perception around corruption in Government, so this is swift and expeditious enough, and it is good for the country.”

“Noticing that he is the appointing authority, he also has the power to disappoint, and he has done so, but then he also recognizes that some of the alleged instances and inferences made, could bother on criminality and pure corruption, so he has referred that to the [Office of the] Special Prosecutor whose Act [the Act establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor] gives him the power to investigate issues relating to corruption.”

Madam Addah, however, said relieving Adu Boahen of his post is not enough, but what is needed at this point to clear the perception of Ghanaians on corruption against the government is to proceed to investigate the allegations levelled against the Vice President.

“The Vice President, in addition to what is put out there, will also serve better if he calls for investigations into those allegations. That has something to do with his personal and professional credibility. It will allow everyone to know that the integrity he is speaking to is one he does not joke with, and he is not just speaking as a mantra, but it is something he lives by and would want everyone to attest to same.”

She also said it is difficult to uphold the Government as one that is committed to fighting corruption because of the various appointees that have been accused at one point or another of corruption but are still actively serving and authoring dismissal letters.

“The person who authored the termination letter was cited by his wife for some domestic infractions, and she made certain allegations about properties he has acquired within the shortest time period and others. In that case, civil society spoke to that issue and thought something should have been done other than the silence that went with it. Today, he is still in Government authoring letters to fire people, but we don’t know how far his own allegations went.”

“This is a President that promised us during his campaign that all you needed to do was to complain or make a complaint or present a case, and the investigation agencies will then take it up. He also promised that he will use Anas’ principle to confirm some of these issues, so it becomes worrying when we do not see that being followed through,” she added.

She also bemoaned the numerous instances of conflicts of interest situations perpetrated by some notable persons appointed by the Government.

  • World Cup 2022: Players who could retire after Mundial

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have defined a generation of football – but this is likely to be their final chance to win a World Cup.

The pair have won it all at club level but have just one major continental trophy each for Argentina and Portugal respectively.

They are two of the icons facing the prospect of their final World Cup in Qatar this winter.

    • Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

You can never rule anything out with Ronaldo but the fact he will be 41 by the time of the next World Cup means it’s likely this will be his last.

In September he said he would not be retiring after Qatar and hoped to play for Portugal “for a few more years” – so who knows?

His club future is also uncertain at the moment, following an interview containing criticisms of Manchester United.

He already has the big individual European Championship records – most tournaments played, most games, most goals – as well as winning Euro 2016. He is also the top-scoring player in men’s international football with 117 goals – including an iconic hat-trick in the last World Cup against Spain.

The 37-year-old forward is one of football’s greats with exactly 700 club goals, more than 30 trophies and five Ballon d’Or titles. But this is surely the last chance to add ‘World Cup winner’ to that incredible CV.

    • Lionel Messi (Argentina)

We could in truth simply copy and paste a lot of the Ronaldo section for Lionel Messi, who will turn 39 during the next World Cup.

Arguably the greatest player of all time, with 695 goals for Barcelona and Paris St-Germain and a record seven Ballons d’Or, Messi finally won the Copa America at the most recent attempt.

But glory in Qatar would finally put the 35-year-old up there with Pele and Diego Maradona for those who hold winning the World Cup as a benchmark for ‘all-time greatest’ status.

Messi comes into the World Cup in some of his best form in recent years, with 11 goals and 14 assists in 18 games for PSG.

He recently said this will “surely” be his final World Cup but nothing has been confirmed yet. And he has retired from Argentina duty in the past before coming back.

    • Robert Lewandowski (Poland)

    Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski failed to score in his maiden World Cup

Robert Lewandowski is heading into only his second World Cup – and it is likely to be last.

The 34-year-old striker – who has scored 18 goals in 19 games for new club Barcelona – failed to score four (and a half) years ago in Russia during Poland’s three group games.

The Bayern Munich legend has enjoyed success at the European Championship, with five goals in 11 games, but this feels like being his last chance to score at a World Cup.

    Neymar (Brazil)

Neymar, at 30, is the youngest player in this list but he has already said this could be his last World Cup.

“I think it’s my last World Cup,” he said last year. “I don’t know if I have the strength of mind to deal with football anymore.” He later claimed his quotes had been misinterpreted.

Neymar – who has scored 13 goals and assisted another 11 for PSG this season – will likely leave behind a legacy of ‘what if’ should he quit football soon.

He is one of the most talented footballers of his generation and has scored 75 international goals. But he has played in France with Paris St-Germain for almost all of his peak years – and only featured in about half their league games.

    • Luis Suarez (Uruguay)

Suarez is 35, so – like his former Barcelona team-mates Messi and Neymar – this could be the end of his World Cup adventures.

The former Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid striker is a free agent, having recently returned to his first club, Nacional, and won the Uruguayan title.

He is most likely to be remembered for being sent off for a handball on the line that denied Ghana a place in the 2010 World Cup semi-final and then biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 tournament.

He is not the only Uruguay icon nearing the end of his international career – with Valencia striker Edinson Cavani, 35, and Velez Sarsfield defender Diego Godin, 36, also in the squad.

    • Luka Modric (Croatia)

Real Madrid midfielder Modric is 37 and this will be his eighth major tournament for Croatia. Reports suggest he will retire from international football after the World Cup – although his manager recently claimed he will play on.

He played a key role in helping his country to the 2018 World Cup final, where they lost to France.

He won the Golden Ball award for the tournament’s best player – and the Ballon d’Or.

    • Karim Benzema (France)

Real Madrid striker Benzema will turn 35 the day after the World Cup final.

He comes into the tournament having won the 2022 Ballon d’Or after scoring 44 goals in 46 games, although he has only netted five times this season.

This will be his second World Cup, having previously played in 2014. He was left out in 2010 while 2018 fell during his near-six-year exile from the national team for his part in a sex tape blackmail case.

    • Gareth Bale (Wales)

    Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale scored the goal to book Wales’ place in the World Cup in their play-off final against Ukraine

Wales legend Bale is heading into his first World Cup – and it could also be his last.

The 33-year-old has said he does not plan to retire after Qatar but he will be 37 in the summer of the next World Cup.

Bale joined Los Angeles FC in the summer after his Real Madrid contract expired – and helped them to win the MLS Cup. There were suggestions he may have chosen to retire had Wales lost in the play-offs.

    • Manuel Neuer (Germany)

Bayern Munich and Germany’s Neuer has been one of the best goalkeepers of his generation.

He won the 2014 World Cup and was named in the team of the tournament.

Neuer will be 40 by the time of the next World Cup in 2026… although six goalkeepers have played at the tournament past that age, so it is possible he could make it.

    • Sergio Busquets (Spain)

Busquets has been one of the great holding midfielders of the past 20 years – enabling some of his legendary Barcelona and Spain team-mates to do their stuff going forward.

But he is 34 and his legs and influence are not what they once were.

It is hard to see the 2010 World Cup winner featuring again in four years’ time.

  • Being celibate has been the best decision of my life – Efia Odo

Ghanaian socialite, Andrea Owusu, popularly known as Efia Odo, has stated that abstaining from sex has been the best decision she has ever made in life.

One can recall that in November 2021, the popular actress mentioned that she was tired of looking for love.

“I think I have to stop looking for love because I am tired. All the men that come my way are after something else and not real love. They either want to get into your pants or just take pride in the fact that they are dating Efia Odo which does not work for me.

“I dated a couple of guys back then and all didn’t work. I wish I were married with children because that is what I want right now. I understand love and when a man understands me it is very easy for us to roll. I am not a difficult person and I am very submissive when I am in love,” she told Graphic Showbiz at the time’;’ she stated in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

  • Attempting to commit a crime may be sufficient grounds for prosecution – Samson Lardy Anyenini

Private Legal Practitioner, Samson Lardy Anyenini has said that under the country’s laws, a person can be prosecuted for an attempt to commit a crime.

He said attempting to commit the crime has the same implications as committing it.

“In our criminal jurisprudence, sometimes attempt is sufficient. You do not have to consummate the crime; attempt may be sufficient. In what we refer to as inchoate offense,” he said.

According to him, under the inchoate offense, an attempt “can cost you sufficient grounds of which a prosecution can be mounted and mounted successfully.”

Mr. Anyenini was commenting on the dismissal of Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen for allegedly saying, in an under-cover expose by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, that Vice President Bawumia needed $200,000 as an appearance fee to meet prospective investors.

In the documentary, Mr. Adu Boahen is said to have told the undercover investigators that Dr. Bawumia would also require some positions from the investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.

However, some sections of the public say there is no sufficient evidence to prosecute Mr. Adu Boahen because he has not yet received the ‘$200,000 ‘appearance fee.’

Mr Lardy Anyenini, in response, said that in the documentary, the former Minister was offering to accept a valuable consideration to influence.

He cited the fact the Special Prosecutor has been petitioned by OccupyGhana to investigate the Majority Caucus’ allegation that a wealthy businessman attempted to bribe them.

When asked what the Special Prosecutor could be investigating in issue involving Mr. Adu Boahen, the Private Legal Practitioner said Mr. Kissi Agyebeng may conduct his investigation based on the provisions of section 252 of the Criminal and other Offences Act 29 as amended.

The section 252 (1) states that “A person shall not accept or agree or offer to accept a valuable consideration under the pretense of having to unduly influence or being able or agreeing to influence another person in respect of function as a public officer or a juror.”

  • Actor, Jim Carrey, among 100 Canadians banned by Russia from entering the country

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today that they added 100 Canadians to the list of people banned from entering the country, including actor Jim Carrey.

Among the 100 includes author Margaret Atwood, journalists, politicians, and CBC’s Leading International Correspondent Christopher Brown. They join a long list of Canadians that were already barred from entering Russia such as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland and former Alberta premier Jason Kenney.

The list, posted on The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation’s website, only included the announcement in Russian.

“In response to the ongoing practice of imposing sanctions by the regime of Prime Minister J. Trudeau against the Russian leadership, politicians and parliamentarians, representatives of the business community, experts and journalists, cultural figures, as well as anyone whom the Canadian Russophobic authorities consider objectionable, entry is closed on the basis of reciprocity for 100 Canadian citizens,” the Google translation read.

The ever-growing list of Canadians banned from entering Russia now hovers near 1000 Canadians, mostly politicians or journalists covering the Russo-Ukrainian War.

In addition to acting, earlier this year Carrey guested as the radio DJ on The Weeknd’s album Dawn FM. He resisted the request from his fellow Canadian at first.

“He put it to me that he was doing this thing that was the radio station in purgatory, and I was like, ‘I love you, but I don’t want to do any work.’ And he said, ‘You know, you can just do it into your iPhone like that, it’s broadcast quality,’” Carrey recalled.

“It’s up to us and how we adapt to their playing style, how we stop them, how we work together as a team. We need to play intelligent football, exploit our opponents’ weaknesses and bring our own strengths to the fore.”

He added, “Every single game is different and the first match will be decisive.”

“The subsequent games depend on the first one. If we lose, we need to be more attacking in the second match, but if not we can set ourselves up differently. It also depends how Uruguay and Korea Republic play against each other. In the end, it’s about mentality.”

23 players have currently reported to camp and arrived in the Abu Dhabi on Monday evening.

  • Moesha Budoung surfaces after reports that she had psychosis

Repented Ghanaian actress cum socialite, Moesha Budoung, has resurfaced on the internet after Afia Schwarzenegger claimed that she was suffering from a mental health condition called psychosis.

In a new video shared by blogger, GhHyper, where he interviewed the actress, she looked nothing like it was rumoured by the mother of two on social media.

According to Moesha, she has been living under the radar but promises to be back with nothing but her best self.

“I have been MIA, but I am going to be back, looking fabulous, better than before, bringing up my A-Game,” she said.

After she happily shared that she was going to return in no time, she also delved into football in Ghana.

A post shared by Gh Hyper 🇬🇭 (@ghhyper1)

Moesha mentioned that although the Ghana Black Stars were going to play in the World Cup in Qatar this year, they should make the country proud.

“They should make Ghana proud. I am not so much of a football person, but all I know is that Ghanaians can really make us proud,” she added.

On April 15, 2022, controversial comedienne, Afia Schwarzenegger, alleged Moesha Boduong was diagnosed with a mental condition known as psychosis.

She said this in an interview with Zionfelix, where she also stated that she and some other celebrities kept this a secret for a long time.

Afia asserted that Moesha was battling that condition all this while, adding that, it was hidden under the cloak of a spiritual attack.

According to the comedienne who was part of some individuals who tried to find solutions to Moesha’s plight, she was diagnosed even before her first public testimony in church.

  • Zionfelix incurs the wrath of Shatta Wale again

When news of Mona4Reall’s arrest went rife, Ghanaian blogger, Felix Adomako popularly known as Zionfelix, was part of the bloggers to first share the information with headlines projecting ‘fraud’ as the reason she was apprehended.

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, Mona’s closest friend, was displeased with this development and he took to social media to vent.

Mona Faiz Montrage popularly known as Mona4Reall was purportedly arrested on November 11, 2022, in connection with a US$8million alleged fraud.

It has been alleged that the popular Socialite had been on ‘red list’ in the USA for a while now and her arrest was a joint operation between the security agencies of both countries (US and UK).

The reports, although unconfirmed, have sparked uproar on social media with netizens eager to ascertain the fact of the issue.

A displeased Shatta Wale who has been enraged by the numerous unconfirmed reports making rounds on social media, took to his Facebook wall to attack Ghanaian bloggers, particularly Zionfelix.

Describing him as a lazy blogger who fails to research issues before hurriedly publishing them, Shatta ordered for the story to be pulled down.

He also threatened to arrest Zionfelix if he fails to heed the order.

“ZionFelix, I didn’t ask you to blog about news you didn’t research about. Please drop that shit down about “MONA 4 Reall” otherwise ago make Ghana police deal with you! I am serious… You (are) just too lazy for my liking. You guys just have laptops and phones and think you can just post anything abi? One of you go go prison p3333! TAKE THAT SHIT DOWN NOW,” Shatta wrote on Facebook.

One can recall that in an earlier interview with Paul Adom Okyere on Good Evening Ghana, Shatta Wale asserted that Zionfelix tops the list of bloggers who usually peddle falsehoods about him.

This was in a bid to lambast Ghanaian journalists by tagging them as unqualified and clueless individuals.

“As for that Zion guy, I don’t even want to hear about him. I know this because I am on the field. The whole of Ghana, he writes the worst stories about me. He doesn’t respect me and my hustle,” Shatta told Paul Adom Otchere.

  • England coach Mott aims to lure Stokes out of ODI retirement for World Cup in 2023

England limited-overs coach Matthew Mott hopes he can lure Ben Stokes out of ODI retirement ahead of the Cricket World Cup in 2023.

Star all-rounder Stokes called an end to his 50-over international career in July as he suggested the workload amid a packed schedule was “unsustainable” alongside his Test captaincy.

The 31-year-old did not bow out of the shortest format, though, and proved his white-ball worth with a vital 52 not out in Sunday’s T20 World Cup final victory over Pakistan.

Stokes became just the third player to score 50-plus runs in finals of both an ODI World Cup and a T20 World Cup, having starred against New Zealand in the dramatic Lord’s showpiece in 2019.

England are the first side to boast duel limited-overs titles at the same time, and Mott hopes he can convince Stokes to return to defend their ODI crown in India next year.

“When he spoke to me about his ODI retirement, one of the first things I said was that I’d back any decision he made,” Mott told Sky Sports.

“He didn’t necessarily have to retire, he could just not play 50 overs for a while. I did say ‘you could always un-retire’. It’s his decision. He’ll do what’s right for English cricket and he always has.

“It’s going to be a World Cup year and we don’t play much T20 cricket for a while but it will be a decision that’s up to him. The more we can get him is great. He’s a world-class player.

“He’s doing an amazing job with the Test captaincy but he is a very big cog in the wheel when he comes back to white ball. I can’t speak more highly of the way he’s been around this group.”

Stokes and Sam Curran, who took the second-most wickets by a pace bowler (13) at an edition of the T20 World Cup, both delivered on the biggest stage for England.

But Mott also pinpointed the influential figures of Reece Topley and Jonny Bairstow, who both missed the tournament in Australia due to injury.

“Reece Topley was a big part of our preparation for here,” the Australian added. “I was absolutely gutted for him, such an innocuous injury. Seeing him leave our group was hard.

“I must admit he was one of the first blokes I thought of (after England’s win) – and Jonny as well.

“Those guys, it’s hard for them when you prepare so much to do something like this, and they don’t come round that often, to have to miss that opportunity is heartbreaking.”

England’s success Down Under could be somewhat credited to Australia, though, given Mott was partnered by Mike Hussey and David Saker in his coaching setup.

“Players make coaches, coaches don’t make players at this level,” Mott continued “There’s no doubt it was a real advantage in Australia to have some Australian coaches around.

“A lot of people just said I got my mates in to do the role. But both of those appointments were suggested by players within our group and had worked with both of them before.”

  • Boult left out by New Zealand for India white-ball encounters

Trent Boult has been left out of New Zealand’s white-ball squads to face India after the selectors gave the priority to contracted players.

The Black Caps left-arm quick made the bold choice to terminate his central contract in August, allowing him more time to focus on family life and franchise cricket.

New Zealand selected the 33-year-old for the T20 World Cup, where they lost in the semi-finals to Pakistan, but he will not come up against India in the upcoming ODI and Twenty20 International encounters.

“When Trent opted out of his NZC contract in August, we indicated that priority would be given to those players with either central or domestic contracts, and that’s been the case here,” Black Caps head coach Gary Stead said.

“We’re all aware of Trent’s world-class ability, but at this time – as we build towards more global events, we want to give opportunities and experiences to others.”

New Zealand start their three-match T20I series against India on Friday, with a trio of ODIs to follow after, and opted for 23-year-old opener Finn Allen instead of the experienced Martin Guptill.

Allen is far from inexperienced, though, with five half-centuries and a hundred in his 23 T20Is and eight 50-over internationals for New Zealand.

“The emergence and success of Finn at the top of the order in white-ball cricket means a guy of the class of Martin Guptill misses out – that’s just the nature of high-performance sport.” Stead added.

“With the 50-over World Cup less than a year away we’re keen to give Finn every opportunity to keep gaining ODI experience, especially against quality opposition such as India.

“The message to both those players is that there’s a lot of international cricket ahead and the door is certainly not closed to them.”

Adam Milne was another notable inclusion in Stead’s squad as the 30-year-old eyes a first ODI appearance since 2017.

Tim Southee and Matt Henry will feature solely in the 50-over format, while Lockie Ferguson and Blair Tickner make up the rest of the pace-bowling department for Kane Williamson’s side.

    New Zealand squad in full:

Kane Williamson (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway (wk), Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry (ODI), Tom Latham (ODI) (wk), Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi (T20), Tim Southee, Blair Tickner (T20)

  • Ronaldo’s ‘total focus’ on Portugal’s quest for World Cup glory amid United criticism

Cristiano Ronaldo says his “absolute focus” will be on Portugal at the World Cup amid the furore of his scathing interview on Manchester United.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner criticised United manager Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick and senior figures at Old Trafford in an interview with Piers Morgan for TalkTV, which will be released in full on Wednesday.

Ronaldo said he felt “betrayed” by United and claimed no progress had been made by the club since Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

United subsequently responded with a statement on Monday noting the interview and vowed to reply “after the full facts have been established”.

The 37-year-old on Monday stated his focus will be fully on playing for Portugal in Qatar ahead of their Group H opener against Ghana on November 24.

The Red Devils beat Fulham 2-1 without Ronaldo on Sunday and are fifth in the Premier League, three points behind Tottenham with a game in hand.

Portugal captain Ronaldo will hope to help his country to World Cup glory in the Middle East, where Fernando Santos’ side will also face Uruguay and South Korea.

  • Bale ‘fit and ready to go’ for Wales at World Cup after injury concerns

Gareth Bale is “100 per cent fit and ready to go” for Wales at the World Cup in Qatar after battling injury issues.

The former Real Madrid winger’s fitness had been a concern before Robert Page named his 26-man squad for Wales’ first appearance at the World Cup in 64 years.

Bale has only started twice for Los Angeles FC since joining from Madrid in July, managing just 370 minutes on the pitch.

However, he scored an extra-time equaliser as a substitute against Philadelphia Union in the MLS Cup final, which LAFC won on penalties on November 5.

Bale initially gave Wales reason to be concerned after the final as he said he felt “not 100 per cent fit”, but has since backtracked on those comments before travelling to the Middle East.

“I’m 100 per cent fit and ready to go,” the Wales international told Sky Sports after revealing his struggles with a “slight issue”.

Bale suggested playing the United States, England and Iran in Group B in the space of nine days would be “no problem”, with the mental aspects of being sidelined more of a problem than the physical side.

“I’m fully fit and ready to go. If I need to play three 90s, I’ll play three 90s,” he added. “It’s been difficult, mentally more than anything.

“I guess for everybody, the last three or four weeks, it’s been difficult, even hearing stories of players going down and knowing they’re going to miss the World Cup.

“Speaking to a few of the boys, even for them having to play this weekend was tough mentally, and we’re just praying not to have an injury at all because it’s such a big occasion.”

The tournament has been somewhat overshadowed due to human rights issues in Qatar.

Bale will be among eight captains to wear a distinctive heart-adorned armband, raising awareness for the OneLove campaign against discrimination in a country where same-sex marriage is prohibited.

“For us as footballers, it’s been a difficult subject to talk about,” said Bale. “But we can shed a light on the problems there that are going on.

“We’ve spoken to the FAW [Football Association of Wales] and they’ve been speaking to Welsh government, who’ve been speaking to Qatar and FIFA, working on these issues.

“For us as players, we’re fully behind and support everything we can do. As footballers, the most we can do is raise awareness and it’s for people higher up to make those decisions, and hopefully make change for the better.”

  • Tall list of all the expensive cars owned by Hajia4Real

Ghanaian socialite, Mona Montrage popularly known as Hajia4Real has been trending on the internet since last Friday after reports went rife that she has been arrested and detained in the UK for her alleged involvement in 8 million USD fraud in the US.

Prior to venturing into the music industry just about a year ago, she was known on the internet as a big-time boss chick who lived a lavish lifestyle on the internet.

Citing from most of the videos she normally shares on her social media pages to capture her life outside social media, one can simply tell that Hajia4Real was truly living a celebrity lifestyle.

She shopped in branded stores and paid for everything she acquired in cash amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The socialite also travelled to most of the Caribbean countries to relax and cool off occasionally.

Before she was busted for her alleged involvement in fraud, a lot of social media users usually questioned her source of income because she had no known business or profession aside from claiming to be a brand influencer.

These inquisitive people were normally told to shut up and mind their businesses – They were normally tagged as bitter and jealous people but they are the ones currently having the last laugh.

In addition to being an addicted fashionista, Hajia4Real is also a known lover of cars and not just any cars but classy and expensive ones such as the Mercedes, Porche and other renowned top brands.

In this article, we are going to talk about the pricey garage of the singer.

To begin with, Hajia4Real owns a Porsche Coupe which costs roughly $110,200.

She also owns a Range Rover which was given to her as a gift by an anonymous person on her 28th birthday.

Just about two months ago, she announced the purchase of a brand new Rolls Royce by posing in it and taking pictures which she later shared on the internet.

After flaunting her Rolls Royce, she shared a new video on herr IG page, in which she was filmed sitting on top of her blue G-Wagon Brabus luxury vehicle while wiggling her body to her new tune with Fancy Gadam, which was playing in the background.

According to checks on google, Hajia4Real’s 2019 Brabus G Wagon, is worth around $240,000 which is equivalent to Ghc 2,489,843.16.

The last car she bought before her unanticipated arrest is a Mercedes Benz Maybach.

  • Mudryk keeping tabs on ‘dynamic’ Arsenal amid transfer links

Mykhaylo Mudryk says he follows Arsenal closely amid speculation over a potential move to the Gunners from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mudryk’s sparkling form this season has seen him register 16 goal involvements in as many appearances and attract interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs, with the 21-year-old closely linked to Arsenal.

The Ukraine international says he has kept up to date with the Gunners’ impressive form, which sees them holding a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League heading into the World Cup break.

“I check on them on ‘MyScore’ and know when they’re playing I can check on them,” Mudryk told Vlada Sedan’s YouTube channel. “I also watch them too.

“They are a very dynamic side, in general not just in controlling possession but also in scoring goals.”

However, Mudryk would want assurances over his playing time from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, adding: “I would first want to know from the head coach that even if I wasn’t a guaranteed starter, that I’d receive a chance.

“Essentially I need to hear directly from the manager what he envisages my role in his side to be.

“From a purely hypothetical perspective if there was the option of being a bench player for Real Madrid or a starter for Arsenal, I’d probably choose Arsenal.

“But it’s a tough question and involves a lot of factors in my answer. The team’s style of play will play a role. It’s very important to me.”

Mudryk was reportedly close to a move away from Shakhtar in the last transfer window, but ended up staying with the 13-time Ukrainian Premier League champions.

While he was disappointed a move never materialised, Mudryk acknowledged that the delay in a move away may actually end up benefitting him, saying: “I spoke with two or three head coaches either directly or via a translator. They were Nice, Bayer Leverkusen and Brentford.

“When it didn’t work out I was a bit upset but as we can see now God’s plan is better than my dreams.”

  • Lopetegui ‘worried’ by injury-hit Jimenez’s inclusion in Mexico World Cup squad

New Wolves head coach Julen Lopetegui is “worried” after Raul Jimenez was named in Mexico’s World Cup squad despite not playing since August.

Former Sevilla and Real Madrid coach Lopetegui officially took charge at Wolves on Monday but will have to wait until after the World Cup break for his first game.

Jimenez has only made three Premier League appearances this season, totalling 211 minutes, after battling with a groin injury but was still included in Mexico’s 26-man list to travel to Qatar.

With Wolves four points adrift of safety at the bottom of the top-flight table, Lopetegui says his primary concern is having his key forward to call upon after the break.

“The most important thing is not the World Cup, it’s Wolves,” Lopetegui said during his first press conference in England.

“I have spoken with Raul, I am worried about him because he doesn’t play a minute with his team, Wolves.

“We need all of them but we need Raul fit and the best version. I hope he will come back here in this way. I respect the decision of the player and the coach but above all for me it’s Wolves.”

Mexico and Wolves have already endured a fractured relationship, with Gerardo Martino’s team apologising after naming an unfit Jimenez on their bench for Wednesday’s 4-0 friendly victory over Iraq.

The 31-year-old was in attendance at Molineux for the 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal on Saturday before being announced in a Mexico squad that includes Napoli’s Hirving Lozano and Ajax defender Edson Alvarez.

But there was no room for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, who scored 18 goals in 34 MLS appearances for Los Angeles Galaxy in 2022.

Martino’s men start their World Cup campaign against Poland on November 22 before facing Argentina and Saudi Arabia in Group C.

    Mexico squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Guillermo Ochoa (Club America), Alfredo Talavera (Juarez), Rodolfo Cota (Leon)

Defenders: Jorge Sanchez (Ajax), Kevin Alvarez (Pachuca), Nestor Araujo (Club America), Johan Vasquez (Cremonese), Hector Moreno (Monterrey), Cesar Montes (Monterrey), Gerardo Arteaga (Genk), Jesus Gallardo (Monterrey)

Midfielders: Andres Guardado (Real Betis), Hector Herrera (Houston Dynamo), Charly Rodriguez (Cruz Azul), Erick Gutierrez (PSV), Luis Chavez (Pachuca), Edson Alvarez (Ajax), Orbelin Pineda (AEK Athens), Luis Romo (Monterrey)

Forwards: Alexis Vega (Guadalajara), Hirving Lozano (Napoli), Raul Jimenez (Wolves), Roberto Alvarado (Guadalajara), Uriel Antuna (Cruz Azul), Henry Martin (Club America), Rogelio Funes Mori (Monterrey)

  • Ronaldo believes Glazers ‘don’t care’ about Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo believes that the Manchester United owners “don’t care about the club” and feels the fans “should know the truth”.

In an interview set to be broadcast fully on Wednesday, the Portuguese forward criticised manager Erik ten Hag and former boss Ralf Rangnick, while also stating he feels “betrayed” by the club.

Ronaldo has now aimed his sights higher up the hierarchy at Old Trafford, accusing the American owners of holding no interest in how the club performs on the field.

“The owners of the club, the Glazers, they don’t care about the club. The sports, they don’t really care in my opinion,” he told Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“I’ve never spoken to them. They give all the power to the sporting director.

“The fans are always right, they should know the truth. The players, we want the best for the club, I want the best for the club, this is why I came back to Manchester United, it is why I love the club.

“But you have some things inside the club which don’t help you reach the top level like [Manchester] City, Liverpool, even now Arsenal, for example, which is difficult.

“It’s hard. In my opinion, it will be hard for United to be at the top of the game in the next two or three years.”

Ronaldo also hit back at former teammates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville, both of whom have been critical of him this season, and accused them of using his name to gain fame in their post playing careers.

“They are not my friends. I don’t know if they have a job on television where they must criticise me to become more famous, I really don’t understand,” he added.

“I think they take advantage of that because they’re not stupid. I have to carry on with my life with criticism or praise but it’s hard when you see people who were in the dressing room with you, criticising you in that way.

“I’m not going to lose sleep because they criticise but it’s not good to listen to that. It’s a little bit disappointing.”

  • Hazard: Last chance for Belgium’s Golden Generation at World Cup

Eden Hazard acknowledged the World Cup in Qatar will be the “last chance” for Belgium’s ‘Golden Generation’ to triumph and says he wants to stay at Real Madrid.

With the likes of Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku to call upon, Belgium have been unable to get their hands on a major trophy.

The Red Devils have ended five of the past seven years at the top of the FIFA rankings, though they suffered quarter-final eliminations at the past two European Championships.

Belgium were also knocked out at the same stage in the 2014 World Cup before reaching the semi-finals of Russia 2018, where they were beaten by eventual winners France.

Hazard, who has endured a difficult time in Madrid following his move from Chelsea, believes Qatar will be Belgium’s last opportunity to succeed with the current star-studded squad.

“I keep smiling. There are people who doubt my qualities, but not me and we will see them again,” the 31-year-old said.

“For us the World Cup is the last chance to show that we can still win something with this generation. It will be complicated, but we will give our all.”

Hazard suggested “it is possible” Qatar could be his last World Cup with Belgium and says he has no intention of leaving Madrid by his own choice any time soon.

“I don’t want to leave Real Madrid. The answer is clear, but it’s not just up to me,” he added.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has previously stated Hazard, who has started just one LaLiga game this season, is aware of the reasons for his lack of minutes with fierce competition for places.

The former Chelsea winger has struggled with injuries and fitness issues following his arrival in June 2019.

Hazard has managed just 29 starts in his four LaLiga seasons with Madrid, who trail Barcelona by two points.

  • I need about GH¢2000 to fuel my car every 3 days – Sarkodie laments

Sarkodie has opened up about how fuel price hikes is impacting his movement and his finances.

The rapper in an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A to Z programme over the weekend told an audience that times are hard for him too despite his status.

Asked about economic issues as pertains to recent times, he told host George Quaye: “I wouldn’t be able to have my hands on everything because at least thank God, we have moved from a certain stage where our problems may not necessarily be like the regular person on the street.”

Specifically, on the fuel price hikes, he stated: “if myself I can have a level of hardship in certain things, it’s not hardship (per se) but it was a big shock, fuel prices is crazy. To fill my car now, I am hitting towards 2,000 cedis, which is serious.

“You need about 2,000 cedis to be able to run around three days,” he lamented.

Sarkodie, who is promoting his Jamz Album, recently told the media that he stood by his support for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his re-election bid in 2020 stressing that he had benefitted from the flagship Free SHS policy of the government.

    An economy in distress

The economy is facing major headwinds that have been characterized by galloping inflation, consistent depreciation of the cedi and general high cost of living and of doing business.

The government is hoping to reach a deal with the International Monetary Fund, IMF, for an economic support programme aimed at shoring up the economy and easing the burden on ordinary Ghanaians.

President Akufo-Addo and his government have come under heavy scrutiny for failing to address the current economic challenges in the country.

The prices of goods and services have been continuously rising all year round, with inflation currently at over 40 per cent.

The Ghana cedi has been ranked the worst currency in the world among 148 currencies tracked by Bloomberg, overtaking Sri Lanka’s rupee, having depreciated by nearly 50 per cent so far in 2022.

  • Abolish 1% Covid-19 Levy – Importers & Exporters cry out

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana are calling on the Government of Ghana to remove the 1 percent Covid-19 Health Recovery Levy in the 2023 budget statement, following an assurance by the Majority Leader, Osei Kyea Mensah Bonsu.

The Majority Leader gave the assurance ahead of the reading of the 2023 Budget Statement, which is scheduled for November 30.

In an interview with Citi Business News, General Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Samson Asaki Awingobit said the government must do all it can to cushion the business community in its 2023 budget statement especially collapsing the nuisance taxes that make the cost of doing business in Ghana expensive.

Mr. Awingobit, inferring the obsolescence of the Levy, questioned its importance a year after its introduction and the disbursement of the proceeds.

“Government should tell us when that 1 percent Covid-19 levy that they have been collecting from the port is going to end because we are no longer in the Covid-19 era.”

He also bemoaned the other numerous taxes that his members are expected to pay in their channel of trade, which he said is greatly impacting their trade.

“The other aspect is that we expect the government to, as a matter of fact, withdraw the VAT Amendment Act rate for us because we are paying so much at the port and if you are not able to recoup what you spent at the port at the end of the day after you make sales, then that becomes a challenge to the business community.”

“If the Government will not give us certain tax rebates, then Government should not come to introduce new taxes because currently, the cost of doing business in Ghana is very costly already.”

The Covid-19 Health Recovery Levy is a stand-alone levy applied to the gross value of taxable supplies of goods and services provided under the Standard Rate and VAT Flat Rate Schemes.

  • Diabetes killed 416,000 people in Africa in 2021 – WHO

Diabetes mellitus took the lives of 416,000 people on the African continent last year, thus becoming one of the leading causes of death in Africa by 2030.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Ghana, Mr. Francis Kasolo who disclosed this in a statement read on his behalf at Ghana’s commemoration of the 2022 World Diabetes Day, said 24 million adults in Africa are currently living with the condition.

The number was, however, predicted to swell by 129 percent to 55 million by 2045.

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease typically characterised by high sugar in the blood. Types are ‘Type 1’, affecting usually children with little or no insulin, ‘Type 2’, usually occurring after 18 years with poor response to insulin and ‘Gestational Diabetes’, one that is caused by pregnancy among women.

Mr Kasolo said Diabetes is the only major non-communicable disease for which the risk of dying early is increasing, rather than decreasing.

The commemoration, organised by the Ministry of Health, was on the theme: “Access to Diabetes Care”.

He said epidemiological trends were reflected in Ghana as Type-2 Diabetes affected approximately six per cent of adults, a percentage that is expected to rise.

The WHO Representative said the known factors include family history and increasing age, along with modifiable risk factors such as overweight and obesity, sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, smoking and alcohol abuse.

When left unchecked and without management and lifestyle changes, Diabetes, he said, could lead to several debilitating complications like heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, lower limb amputation, visual impairment, blindness, and nerve damage.

To enhance controlling of the condition, Mr Kasolo appealed to governments of WHO member states to prioritise investment in essential products like insulin, glucometers and test strips, explaining: “This is critical to ensure equitable accessibility for everyone living with diabetes, no matter where on the continent they are”.

Dr Efua Commeh, Acting Programme Manager, Non-communicable Diseases, Ghana Health Service, said Diabetes affected a significant number of children, many of whom were not recognised.

“Children with this condition will live with it for very long time and it will affect productivity. Moreover, there are many who walk around with the condition without knowing about it,” she noted.

In Ghana, she said Diabetes prevalence is between six and seven per cent, adding: “Obesity, hypertension, unhealthy diet and lifestyles are rising and it’s therefore, not surprising that diabetes is also rising among the public”.

Dr Commeh said more than 200,000 people passed through the Out Patient Department of health facilities every year with diabetes, including gestational conditions.

Deputy Minister of Health, Tina Mensah who launched the commemoration, said rate of Diabetes infection is beyond the government health system and called on health development partners to join hands with the government to control the condition in Ghana.

Mr. Steven Arthur, a representative of Roche, a biotech company, who said Diabetes is a lifestyle disorder, encouraged the public to acquire a certified glucometer to check their sugar levels every morning before breakfast and two hours after lunch.

He also asked those with Diabetes to engage in physical activities at least 150 minutes per week, spread within three discontinuous days.

Mr Arthur admonished the public to consume only low, good quality calories, as bad ones affected sugar levels with sweetness and unhealthy fats.

“There are a lot of apps that can help you to track your sugar and calories levels and also try to visit your Diabetes Specialists regularly to enable them modify your treatments accordingly,” he said.

  • Man kidnaps son, demands N182,000 ransom from wife

Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI, says it has rescued an 8-yr-old boy who was kidnapped by his father on November 12 and used to demand for a ransom of Sh50,000 from his wife.

A distraught mother of the boy, Everline Nandera who filed a report at Embakasi police station said the incident occured after a domestic disagreement with the father identified as Nemwel Ondari.

“Nandera told detectives that she had left their home in Embakasi’s Tel Aviv area at the crack of dawn, headed for Muthurwa market.” A statement read

“But upon coming back at around 9:20am, she found her husband and son missing. A note had been left behind by the husband demanding for a ransom of Sh50,000, for the release of the boy.

“In the note, the man also warned his wife that he would kill the boy using a kitchen knife which he had carried, should she try any monkey business.

“Immediately the woman filled her report at Embakasi police station, detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) based at DCI Nairobi area were assembled and a manhunt for the suspect was launched.

“The detectives assisted by their Embakasi counterparts traced the suspect and arrested him at the NMS Green Park matatu terminus off Haile Sellasie avenue, a few hours later.

“The detectives established that the couple had a heated argument last night and after Everline left early in the morning for Muthurwa to fend for her family, the man packed his clothes and a kitchen knife in two bags, before taking off with the innocent boy.

“The detectives pounced on the man at around 4pm, as he eagerly waited for the ransom to be deposited into his Mpesa account.

“Mother and child were reunited as the man was escorted to Embakasi police station, where he is cooling his heels awaiting arraignment.”

  • Dr Bawumia and Charles Adu Boahen only meet at Economic Management meetings – Dr Gideon Boako

The spokesperson of the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako has refuted the allegation attributed to the dismissed Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen.

Mr. Adu Boahen is alleged to have said, in a yet-to-be-aired under-cover expose by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, that Vice President Bawumia needed $200 as an appearance fee to meet prospective investors.

The documentary is dubbed “Galamsey Economy” and is expected to be premiered on Monday at the Accra International Conference Centre.

In the documentary, Mr. Adu Boahen is said to have told the undercover investigators that Dr. Bawumia would also require some positions from the investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.

According to Dr. Gideon Boako, he does not recollect any private meeting between Mr. Adu Boahen and the Vice President.

Speaking to JoyNews on Monday, November 14, 2022, Dr Boako stated that apart from attending an EMT (Economic Management Team) meeting, there hasn’t been any engagement.

“I have no idea why he said so. I work so closely with the Vice President, I do not remember the last time Charles Adu Boahen visited the Vice President’s house. I am always with the Vice President – from morning to evening, and I don’t remember the last time I even saw Charles in his house. I don’t remember the last time Charles had a private conversation with Dr. Bawumia,” he said.

Due to the above explanations provided, he stated that what the Vice President is being accused of is false and weird, adding that “I do not see the head and tail of it.”

Earlier, Dr. Bawumia denied the accusations and called for the Minister to be sacked and investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

The Spokesperson said the call for a full-blown investigation into the matter is in place.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has terminated the appointment of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, with immediate effect.

In a statement on Monday from the Presidency, the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, said, “After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.”

  • A supposed investor called to enquire about ‘appearance fee’ to see Dr Bawumia – Dr Gideon Boako reveals

The spokesperson for the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako has revealed that he was contacted by a supposed investor earlier in the year inquire about the ‘appearance fee’ to meet his boss.

He however did not probe into the background of the supposed investors “because it was of no interest to me.”

According to Dr. Gideon Boako, the conversation took place on phone.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday, he said, “the exact day, I may not be able to tell, but they contacted me this year, 2022.”

According to Dr. Boako, his response to the supposed investor was that the request should be put into writing to the Vice President’s office.

Dr. Boako said when the question of ‘appearance fee’ was asked, he was taken aback.

“I laughed and asked, an appearance fee? Why? is it that Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are going to have a super clash,” Dr. Boako said while laughing.

The spokesperson continued that the supposed investor asked whether the ‘appearance fee’ is a norm.

To which he replied, “no, that cannot happen. If that was the case, then I am not a poor man. I told them the Vice President as I know him, will never entertain such a thing. If you are his staff and entertain such a thing, you do that at your own risk.”

According to Dr. Boako, the supposed investor later mentioned that someone once made a proposal for ‘appearance fee’ hence his question.

“I told them that well, I do not know that person, but I will say categorically that the person did that on his own behalf and not on behalf of the Vice President because as far as I know the Vice President, it will never happen. I said to them that if the Vice President gets to know of that, he will recommend for the person to be questioned by the security agencies. It was only yesterday that Tiger Eye revealed name of the person they were talking about,” Dr. Boako added.

It would be recalled that the dismissed Minister of State, Adu Boahen is alleged to have said, in an under-cover expose by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, that Vice President Bawumia needed $200 as an appearance fee to meet prospective investors.

The documentary is dubbed “Galamsey Economy” and is expected to be premiered on Monday at the Accra International Conference Centre.

But Dr. Bawumia denied the accusations and called for the Minister to be sacked and investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

President Akufo-Addo subsequently sacked the former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.

Meanwhile, Programmes Manager at the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Addah has called for investigations into allegations levelled against Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“We should have an investigation which centers particularly on this allegation that if you have (USD) 200,000 you should be able to secure a meeting with the Vice-President and I know the state institutions that have the mandate to investigate will do so and do a good job at that,” she said on The Pulse, Monday.

  • Retired Justice Honyenuga to continue hearing Opuni’s case

Retired Justice of the Supreme Court Clemence Honyenuga says he will continue to hear the trial of former COCOBOD CEO, Dr Stephen Opuni, despite retiring as a judge two months ago.

He made this declaration when he delivered his ruling on an application by lawyers for Dr Opuni.

Lead Counsel Samuel Codjoe had urged the Judge to restrain himself from hearing the matter.

Justice Honyenuga has since March 2017 been hearing the case as an additional High Court Judge.

His tenure as a Supreme Court judge terminated on September 4, 2022, when he attained the age of 70.

The Judge however says the Chief Justice had prior to the said date granted him an extension to continue hearing the matter.

Mr Codjoe however argues the Chief Justice lacks the mandate to grant such an extension.

He said an extension cannot be granted to a person who is no longer a judge. He insisted only the President can grant such an extension.

“Since we came back from vacation we have come to this court not less than three different occasions and this order has never been set aside by this court. We are submitting that the CJ engaged in an unconstitutional act when he purported to extend the tenure of your lordship under 144(11). “

He continued that the President is clothed with such power under article 145(2a).

“It states that a Supreme Court judge is to mandatorily retire at the age of 70 unless his appointment is extended by the president under 145(4). It is our submission that the appointment to the position of a high court judge under article 144 is totally different from that of the appointment of an additional high court judge under 139.

“Under article 144(9)… it is quite clear that the person to be appointed need not be an existing judge unlike under 139(1c) which by its provision all Court of Appeal and Supreme Court are potentially high court judges,“Mr Codjoe stated.

Director of Public Prosecution Yvonne Attakora Obuobisa opposed the application.

She argued the appointment and removal from office of a Justice of the Superior court are different from an extension granted to a judge previously hearing a case to continue with the matter for a limited period of time and that the constitution handles them differently.

“There is no confusion about the fact that it is the president who appoints the chief justice, the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and high court judges. Article 144 deals with such appointments and 146 deals with their removal from office.

“In articles 144 and 146 the drafters of the constitution clearly said it is the president who appoints and removes justices of the superior court. Nowhere in article 139 or 145(4) is the president mentioned.”

She urged the court to dismiss the application.

Justice Honyenuga dismissed the application. He stated that the Chief Justice as the administrative head of the judiciary has the power under the constitution to grant an extension to a retiring judge.

The extension he explained was granted long before the date of retirement.

The case has been adjourned to November 16 for continuation.

The former COCOBOD CEO Dr Stephen Opuni has been charged with willfully causing financial loss to the state to the tune of ¢2.1 billion in three separate contracts for the supply of fertilisers.

  • How Aisha Huang used forged marriage documents to acquire permanent residence in Ghana – Witness tells court

The second prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Aisha Huang has detailed how the Chinese national acquired a permanent residency status in Ghana.

Superintendent David Essien on Monday, November 14, 2022, gave his witness statement to the Accra High Court presided by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo where he told the court about the two occasions he ever came into contact with the accused.

According to the prosecution witness, he first met the accused on August 30, 2016, when a publication about her alleged galamsey activities at Bepotenteng in Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region was reported in the media.

The witness who is an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service assigned to the enforcement unit said he was tasked with investigating the report to ascertain the residence status of the accused as well as the allegations contained in the report.

He said the accused person honoured an invitation by the GIS and submitted her passport which showed her status as a permanent resident.

The witness added that he encountered the accused person a second time when a team of immigration officers arrested some Chinese nationals who were engaged in illegal mining activities at Bepotenteng in 2017.

The suspects told the arresting officers that they had their passports with the accused who is their employer.

Superintendent Essien said he later got the accused person to honour an invitation following which her statement was taken and she together with those arrested were sent to the head office of the Immigration Service in Accra.

During the cross-examination of the witness by the defence counsel, lawyer Nkrabea Effah Dartey questioned whether the first encounter between the witness and the accused person was only in reference to her immigration status.

But responding to the question, the witness said it was to investigate other issues about the accused person.

He said the investigations established that the accused had actually acquired her residency permit by purporting to have been married to a Ghanaian and backing same with forged documents.

“When we examined the passport she was on an indefinite permit which was granted her based on her supposed marriage to a Ghanaian known as Anthony Fabian. However, investigations conducted by the Ghana Immigration Service established that the accused used forged marriage certificate and forged Ghana passport in support of her application for the indefinite residence permit,” he said.

The witness told the court that the discovery led to the revocation of the permit granted the accused and also led to her repatriation in 2018.

“As a result of this the comptroller general of the GIS revoked the indefinite residence permit on grounds of fraudulent misrepresentation in accordance with Section 22 Subsection 2 a of Immigration Act 2000 Act 573 which led to the subsequent repatriation of the accused on December 19, 2018,” he stated.

Aisha Huang is facing charges for engaging in mining and the sale of minerals without a license.

She was recently arrested in Ghana following her repatriation in 2018.

Aisha Huang who is said to have been engaged in illegal mining upon her return to the country, according to the prosecution entered the country using forged documents and identity.

Hearing of the case is scheduled to continue on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, with the defence resuming its cross-examination of the prosecution’s second witness.’

  • I’m a Catholic, you should have called me to ask about galamsey allegations – Wontumi to Catholic Bishops

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi, has bemoaned the call by Catholic Bishops for officials of his company, Akonta Mining, to be prosecuted.

The Ghana Catholic Bishops, after their plenary assembly in Donkokrom in the Eastern Region, called on the government to go after financiers of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

“We urge the relevant agencies responsible for the protection and preservation of our natural resources to ensure the prosecution of the financiers of activities that result in major crises facing the country such as illegal mining (galamsey).

“One critical example is the call for prosecution of the owners of Akonta mining Limited, among others who have been accused by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, confirmed by the Minerals Commission and reported in the media,” parts of a communique by the Catholic Bishop Conference read.

Reacting to this in an interview on Neat FM, which was monitored by GhanaWeb, Wontumi said that the bishops should have called him to ask about the allegation because he (Wontumi) is a member of the Catholic Church.

He added that his outfit, Akonta Mining, is not involved in illegal small-scale mining but is rather a large-scale mining company.

“Where I don’t agree with them (the Bishops) is that I am a Catholic myself, so they could have called me to ask about the truth of the matter so that I can give them all the documents I have.

“They are men of God and so I don’t want to say anything against them … What I can say is that as it is written in Romans 8:31; If God is for you, who can be against you?

“My last quotation for them is from Isaiah 54 vs 10 (Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed),” he said in Twi.

  • NDC Youth Forum declares support for Afriyie Ankrah

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Forum has thrown its weight behind the former director of elections of the party, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, for the party’s general secretary position in the upcoming national executive elections.

In a statement issued by its secretary, Osman Iddrisu Banpuori, the forum said that Afriyie Ankrah through his service to the party has proven that he is the right man for the job.

The group added that Afriyie Ankrah, a former minister for sports, is the only person among the persons who will be contesting for the general secretary position who can assure the party’s victory in the 2024 elections.

“The forum is imbibed with his strategy, charisma, and commitment to service for the party as well as his enviable vision that seeks to pull all party members along which we hope would give our great party a resounding victory come 2024.

“In preparations into the 2024 election, the party needs a GENERAL SECRETARY that people can rally behind, approach and rely on to deliver victory for this great party and we are convinced beyond every reasonable doubt that Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has these pedigrees to soldier the party into victory.

“The Youth Forum is convinced that Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has the impeccable track record to become the next NDC chief scribe. With what we know you are capable of doing, we have at the back of our minds that it would be a one-touch victory if you are finally voted into office,” parts of the statement, read.

The youth, therefore, urged delegates of the party to vote massively for Afriyie Ankrah in the December 17, 2022, national executive elections of the party.

Afriyie Ankrah is expected to face stiff competition from the ex-Deputy Minister of Finance and former Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and the current Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Dr. Peter Otokunor.

Over 63 percent of participants in a poll conducted by GhanaWeb in October 2022 said that the current Director of Elections of the NDC should be the replacement of the outgoing General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

  • Court restrains Arise Ghana picket at Revolution Square

Pressure group, Arise Ghana, has called off its planned three-day picketing at the Revolution Square after a High Court granted an injunction filed by the police against the picketing.

The group had intended to picket from November 15 to 17 at the Revolution Square right opposite the Jubilee House, but the Ghana Police Service sought an injunction on the event on the basis that the venue poses a national security threat.

The Police argued that per the National Security and the Police Security Intelligence assessment, there were reasonable grounds that converging at the Revolution Square, will endanger public safety and violate the rights and freedom of other persons.

The court has since ruled in favour of the police and asked the group to instead picket at the Independence Square.

Arise Ghana, however, said that Independence Square does not fulfil the aspirations of the event and insists on holding the picketing at the Revolution Square.

Bernard Mornah, a leading member of Arise Ghana, said the Police cannot continuously deny demonstrators the venue they intend to picket.

He added that the group has asked their lawyers to file an appeal against the ruling of the court.

“We have no business at Independence Square because we didn’t ask President Akufo-Addo to remove Charles Adu Boahen, and we are not going there to be closer to the Ministry of Finance…our message we want to carry to the Presidency.

“In view of the fact that we don’t want our rights to be trampled upon, we won’t go to Independence Square, and we have instructed our lawyers consequently that they should file an appeal against the decision.”

  • Look for a top lawyer, renowned man of God to plead for you – Maurice Ampaw tells Ama Governor

A private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, has advised YouTuber Elorm Ababio, a.k.a Ama Governor, to show some remorse for her actions on social media if she intends to be called to the Ghana Bar.

Speaking in a Neat FM monitored by GhanaWeb, lawyer Ampaw said that defenders of Ama Governor should urge her to change her behaviour rather than threatening to demonstrate because their demonstration will change nothing.

He added that Ama Governor should go before the General Legal Council (GLC) with one of the nation’s top lawyers and a clergyman who will plead for the blockade on her call to the Bar to be lifted.

“You can enjoy your life, but you have to enjoy it in the quiet. You can’t be living an I don’t care life because it is your life. Who told you it is your life? Whatever you do affects somebody else.

“Let me advise Ama Governor and all those who are insulting the Council that they are not helping the girl. I also advise the girl to stop social media stuff. The matter is now soft speaking; it is before the Council.

“What she should be doing now is to be looking for an experienced lawyer, who has practised for about 30 to 50 years and a Christian clergy who is respected in the country from the orthodox churches… The man of God will plead on her behalf when they go before the Council… the law should also convince that counsel that s/he will mentor her… that is the only way the Council will lift the ban on her,” he said in Twi.

Elorm Ababio, a student who just completed the Ghana School of Law (GSL), will not be called to the Ghana Bar due to a petition filed against her by a “concerned citizen”.

The complaint, according to the letter signed by Justice Cynthia Pamela A. Addo JA, Secretary, General Legal Council (GLC), stated that Ama Governor is seen in widely circulated videos engaging in what it describes as “conduct unbecoming of an applicant to be called to the Bar”.

The complainant, the GLC Secretary, indicated also submitted a flash drive [pen drive] which contains selected video files and hyperlinks of Ama Governor to relevant website publications.

Ama Governor’s conduct is said to violate Regulation 21(c) of the Legal Profession (Professional and Post-call Law Course) Regulations, 2018 L.I. 2355.

The said regulation states: “A student of the school qualifies to be called to the Bar if that student has […] (c) satisfied the Council that the student is of good character.”

The Council, as Justice Cynthia Pamela A. Addo JA said, had thus decided:

“1. To constitute a three-member Committee to investigate the complaint and advise Council accordingly.

“2. To suspend the decision to call you [Ama Governor] to the Bar pending the outcome of the investigation.

“I have been directed by the Chairperson of the General Legal Council to inform you of this matter and to advise you to expect to be contacted by the Committee in due course.”

“You will be given a fair hearing on the complaint before a decision is arrived at,” Justice Cynthia Pamela A. Addo JA’s letter dated November 3 concluded.

  • Sacking Adu Boahen is meaningless unless it is linked to the resignation of Ofori-Atta – NPP MP

New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Opoku Ansah, is calling for the resignation of finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta following the dismissal of the Minister of State for Finance, Charles Adu Boahen.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, November 14, 2022, sacked Mr Adu Boahen hours ahead of the premiere of an investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

But reacting to the sacking in a Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb, the Mpraeso MP who had recently joined some majority MPs to demand the sacking of Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen, said the minister for finance must as well resign.

Borrowing and rephrasing a quote by Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the MP said the essence of the sacking will not be complete without the resignation of Ken Ofori-Atta.

“The sacking of Charles Adu Boahen is meaningless unless it is linked to the resignation of Ken Ofori-Atta and the total liberation of the finance ministry from data Bankers,” he wrote.

In a yet-to-be premiered expose by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Charles Adu Boahen has been captured on tape making various implicating statements.

Among other things, the minister of state who was being recorded by undercover agents of Anas disguised as investors said they will need just $200,000 as an appearance fee for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as well as positions for his siblings if they are to get the vice president’s backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.

Anas in a synopsis shared on social media hours before the premiere of the investigative piece dubbed Galamsey Economy said Adu Boahen, after having bundles of US dollars spread on a table in front of him and told to use them for shopping by the supposed business tycoon, promised to introduce the tycoon to the powers that be; the President, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, and the Vice President, in Ghana.

Charles Adu Boahen has been one of the subjects of a public call for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack some of his ministers.

There are demands for the minister of state and his boss, Ken Ofori-Atta, to be sacked for their mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy and performance at the ministry.

The two ministers have been fingered by their critics for conflict of interest, favouritism and nepotism.

The likes of private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, have raised questions about Adu Boahen’s Black Star Brokerage and Ken Ofori-Atta’s Databank being chosen to deal in the sale of government bonds.

According to the critics, the situation reeks of conflict of interest as banks at the time of being chosen as by the Finance Ministry in 2017, had next to zero market share, were inexperienced relatively small as compared to the firms such as Barclays Bank and Stanbic Bank which were overlooked.

“Black Star Securities had next to zero market share at the time they were made part of this whole bond acquisition and sale process.

“I am daring the Finance Ministry, they should show us Black Star Security’s trading share in 2017. How did they qualify?

“Adu Boahen was walking here with a very small company in his armpit. The company was next to nothing, so, they should show. What are the statistics in 2017 at the time they came into office,” lawyer Martin Kpebu said and queried when he appeared as a guest on the August 20, 2022 edition of Joynewsfile.

  • How loyalty to Joshua Alabi helped Elvis Ankrah gain a major employment at UPSA in 2005

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a former Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has recalled some good memories of working together with the first Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi.

Recalling how, together with Prof. Alabi, who was at the time the Campaign Manager of the NDC, they worked at trying to win power for the party, he explained that one of the things that worked for him was knowing his place.

He told GhanaWeb’s Edward Smith Anamale in an interview on Election Desk that although it was clear to many people at the time that he, Elvis, was the one seemingly doing all the work, he did not allow any of that to get to his head.

He said he knew his place and played his part accordingly.

“He was then the Pro-Vice Chancellor of UPSA and so he had to juggle the two and so at certain times, when he was on holidays, then he’ll join the campaign full time but during school time, he wasn’t full time. So, I was virtually running but we had a very solid relationship.

“I reported to him morning, evening every day – morning, evening. And there’s a lesson in that; loyalty, because people were saying now you are in charge and I said No, I was not appointed Campaign Manager,” he said.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who is eyeing the position of General Secretary of the NDC in its pending December 17, 2022, congress, reiterated that, unknown to him, it would all pay one day.

He narrated how one day, when he was seeking a job at the UPSA, having been in the good books of Prof Joshua Alabi, it paid off very well for him.

“He is my boss and it paid off because after that election, then in 2005, I contested for and won as the Deputy General Secretary at the Koforidua Congress.

“So, when we came back, I was put in charge of operations, and we were in opposition – we had been in opposition from 2000 and I believe that you must always work; earn your keep, so I applied for a job at the UPSA and on the panel, of course, was Prof. Alabi, who I’d been loyal to.

“Of course, I was qualified, but can you imagine if there had been a frosty relationship and I had been arrogant and disrespectful to him that now I’m in charge, I’m sure I wouldn’t have had that job,” he explained.

  • Adwoa Safo’s return: We are unbothered – Constituents

Residents of the Dome-Kwabenya constituency feel indifferent about their member of parliament, Adwoa Safo, following her return to parliament.

According to some residents, after abandoning the constituency for about a year, Adwoa Safo’s return does not mean anything to them.

They mentioned that they feel disrespected by the MP while others stated that they were unaware she is back in the country.

Speaking to www.ghanaweb.com, the residents seemed to have regretted voting for the MP while accusing her of being irresponsible.

One resident said “both Adwoa Safo and other government officials are not acting responsibly; because if this country was their sole property, will they leave the country and return as they please? As if nothing happened? If I talk more, I may say something offensive. She’s doing as she pleases.”

Another resident said “we woke up at dawn and left everything including our businesses to vote for her. A first fool they say is not a fool but the second fool is. If we go and vote for her again it means we are the fools. We voted for her based on her promises but they were all lies.”

The former Minister for Gender, Women, and Children’s Affairs who was living in the USA for almost a year before she finally resumed her parliamentary duties on November 11, 2022.

  • World Cup 2022: Profile of Thomas Partey

Arsenal’s in form midfielder has been named in Ghana’s final squad for the 2022 World Cup which will be held from November 20th and end on December 18th.

Partey was born in Krobo Odumase and came up through the youth ranks of local team Odometah. After a brief stint with Leganes, he joined Atlético Madrid in 2012 and was dropped to the reserves a year later.

Partey was called up to the main team for the match against Real Sociedad on March 10, 2013. He did not, however, play in the final 0-1 home defeat.

On November 28, 2015, he made his Atlético Madrid debut, replacing Luciano Vietto in a 1-0 home win over Espanyol. On 2 January of the following year, he scored his first league goal for the club, scoring the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Levante at home. On May 28, he appeared in the UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid, coming on in the 116th minute to replace Koke as his team lost on penalties.

On October 31 2017, Partey scored his first European goal with a long-range strike to equalize at home against Qarabag in a 1-1 draw in the Champions League group game, becoming the club’s first African to do so.

The former Atlético Madrid midfielder has made 40 appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana and scored 13 goals.

  • Yam, cocoyam to be added to list of items at PFJ market – Agric Ministry

After testing the sale of two food products, plantain and rice, to help Ghanaians cope with the rising cost of food, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has now added two more.

Cocoyam and yam are the new inclusions.

After successfully making several bunches of plantains available to some Civil and Local Government personnel on Friday, November 11, 2022 for GHS10, GHS15, and GHS25, respectively, depending on the size, the Ministry is now introducing some additional goods.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Bagbara Tanko told Emmanuel Quarshie, the host of the Ghana Yensom morning show on Accra 100.5 FM on Monday, November 14, 2022, that the minister was motivated to roll out the pilot market project stemming from his experience during his tour of the Western North Region.

According to him, during the minister’s tour of the region, when the regional director of MoFA was giving his report, he mentioned that because of the Planting for Food and Jobs in the region, a bunch of plantain was sold for GHS5 only.

He added that, already, MoFA directors in the Central Region have also kick started what they call the farmer’s market which is similar to what is happening in Accra.

This, he said, got the minister motivated and at the same time wondering why the same food items are sold at high cost in the urban areas.

He explained that it was the glut in the Western North that pushed the minister’s ideas to roll out the pilot market at the ministry’s forecourt and the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra.

He said when the minister continued with his tour of the Oti Region, it was also noted that one hundred tubers of yam were sold for GHS600.00.

He said these revelations got the minister to decide to cart some of these food items to the urban areas and make them available to the staff of the Civil and Local Government Service.

He disclosed that quite often it is the barriers along the roads from the farm gate that push the cost of food in the urban areas.

For his part, Mr Edwin Kweku Andoh Baffour, Communications Director of Food Sovereignty Ghana, commended the Ministry for making some of these food items available to the suffering masses.

“The ministry is solving a problem,” he said but wondered how sustainable the exercise will be going forward.

He chastised the government for failing to create the needed infrastructure across the regions for people to freely move items to the urban areas.

He said the lack of infrastructure has accounted for the high cost of food in the urban areas.

He explained that some of the road infrastructures at the farm gate are the cause of the high cost of food in the urban areas.
