  • Public funding of national cathedral amidst economic crisis must stop – Mahama

Former president, John Dramani Mahama, does not believe it is wise to use public funds to build the national cathedral at a time when the nation is facing economic difficulties.

Mr. Mahama contends that now is not the time to allocate public funds to initiatives like the building of a national cathedral that are not necessary.

On Thursday, October 27, 2022, he gave a lecture on the state of the economy of the nation with the title “Building the Ghana We Want.”

Mr. Mahama made the following statement at the event’s location, the University of Professional Studies in Accra: “The public funding of the national cathedral, particularly at this time, must halt.”

The former president noted that those resources must rather be invested in reviving the country’s economy.

Stressing he was a Christian himself, he further noted, that the cathedral cannot be prioritised amid the current economic challenges and public funds invested into the construction of the cathedral already, should be audited.

“Being a Christian myself, and deeply appreciative of the centrality of God in nation building, I agree with most Ghanaians who believe that the project cannot constitute a top priority of government at this moment, warranting further injection of scarce public funds.

“Because of the non-transparency of the procurements associated with the project, I believe that the project should be subjected to a value-for-money audit in order to open the way for believers who wish to contribute to its construction to do so,” Mr. Mahama stated.

Despite public outcry about the construction of the cathedral, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has maintained that: “We will surely build the [National] Cathedral.”

Meanwhile, a call centre has been announced for the National Cathedral Project.

The Board of Trustees for the Project announced this at a Press Conference on Monday, 24 October 2024.

The call centre will provide answers to Ghanaians seeking information on the project including how to donate and enhance the relationship between the cathedral and the public.

A member of the Board of Trustees of the Project, Rev Joyce Aryee, was also hopeful that despite the country’s current economic challenges, persons would still donate to complete the National Cathedral.

“Human beings are so resilient. I am 76. I have lived through worse economic times in our country, therefore, I know economic times are as transient as the seasons of life,” she said.

“God has a way of touching our lives in ways that sometimes we don’t understand. We are still going to church, aren’t we? And we are still making donations, aren’t we? But times are difficult and that’s what gives me hope that, never
mind how difficult times are, some people will willingly support,” Rev Aryee argued.

  • Ghana defender Lumor Agbenyenu targets Spanish top-flight promotion with Malaga CF

Ghana international Lumor Agbenyenu has set sights on helping Malaga CF to secure promotion to the Spanish top-flight.

The defender who joined Malaga until the end of the season wants to do everything possible to help the club return to the top-flight.

“I think Malaga is not doing well but the great truth is that Malaga shouldn’t be in the Second Division, it has started this season not very well but from now on we are going to give everything we can to try to take the team to the playoffs and where it deserves to be, which is the First Division”.

The former Real Mallorca left-back is expected to make his debut for Malaga when they take on Eibar on Sunday in the Spanish Segunda Division at the La Rosaleda Stadium.

  • 2022 World Cup: Winning bonus scrapped, Black Stars players to be paid qualification bonus

Akwasi Agyemang, vice chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, has announced that winning incentive payments will not be made for the 2022 World Cup.

Akwasi Agyemang claims that despite being in a group where many do not think they have a chance of surviving, the players have agreed to only accept qualification bonuses and not winning bonuses.

“We have discussed qualifying incentives with the players in a number of meetings.
The participants concurred since we borrowed a page from our forerunners.

“We explained to the players that the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Finance provide the funding, not the management committee.”

“The players are now aware of what they are entitled to but funding is another issue, which is why President Nana Akufo-Addo organized the fundraiser to get some money from Corporate Ghana for the team”, he said in an interview with Happy FM.

The Black Stars will begin their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign against Portugal on Thursday, November 24, at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar.

  • Rihanna drops ‘Lift Me Up,’ from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, co-written by Tems

Rihanna dropped her first single in six years on Thursday night: “Lift Me Up,” the first track to emerge from Marvel’s blockbuster sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

The song, a tribute to the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman, was written by Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, Rihanna, top film composer Ludwig Göransson and director Ryan Coogler.

It is one of two songs from the film, which premieres in theatres on November 11.

Few other details have been released about the song or the soundtrack album that Rihanna is said to be curating in a manner similar to the way Kendrick Lamar helmed the first film’s album.

“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” Tems said in a statement.

“Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honour,” she added.

Rihanna has made just a handful of featured appearances in the years since her last album, 2016’s “Anti” — most notably features on N.E.R.D.’s “Lemon,” which she briefly performed with Pharrell at her Diamond Ball in New York in 2019, Kendrick Lamar’s “Loyalty” and Future’s “Selfish” — yet in February she will be the halftime performer on the world’s largest stage for a musician, the Super Bowl.

There has been talk for years about her working on two different albums, one a dancehall-leaning set, but she has provided virtually no details and no music has materialized or leaked.

However, her career has expanded far beyond music with her booming cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty and lingerie line Savage x Fenty, which have made her a billionaire.

She also had her first child, a boy, with her partner A$AP Rocky in May.

Along with her Super Bowl performance, Rihanna is prepping for her fourth annual Savage X Fenty fashion show which will feature Anitta, Burna Boy, Don Toliver, and Maxwell as performing artists.

The event will be premiering exclusively via Prime Video with other bold-faced names such as Ángela Aguilar, Avani Gregg, Bella Poarch, Cara Delevingne and more set to make appearances.

Boseman, who played King T’Challa in the original “Black Panther,” died of colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43. The follow-up film centers on Wakanda’s leaders as they contend with the death of their ruler and fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers. Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke co-star in the film.

  • Sulley Muntari passes damning verdict on Ghana Premier League after Hearts of Oak experience

The Ghana Premier League is far from perfect, according to former Hearts of Oak player Sulley Ali Muntari, and much work needs to be done to advance it.

The mentality of club executives, according to Muntri, is the reason why the nation’s top division is in such poor shape.

Speaking about his failure to sign a contract extension with Hearts of Oak and his unsuccessful transfer to Asante Kotoko, he made the implication that both organizations chose not to use the European methods of developing a squad.

“I wanted something like that, but here the mentality is just different, and we continue to say the mentality is different and the League is horrible. There is talent, there are a lot of talents that we should give them a chance to play and take good care of them for them to play,” he said in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.

He pointed out some poor treatment players go through at the hands of club administrators.

“You can’t travel with kids and leave them seven, eight, or nine hours and expect them to go and play football. And you don’t treat them the way you want to be treated. So I think if we want a very good future for these kids, the League, first division, second division, and colts. We need to focus on them. We really need to focus on them. If not, we will continue to compare.”

He said the domestic League could not produce great players like Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, Derek Boateng, and the like because of the poor running of the local League and lack of foundation.

“If you want Essien, Stephen Appiah, Derek Boateng, and the other players, you won’t get it. Because at that time, the players were picking up, there was a foundation for them. You just don’t wake you and say you want this and that; it won’t work.”

Sulley Muntari joined Hearts of Oak in January 2002, signing a six months contract that runs until the end of 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season.

  • Revive local industry – Poultry Farmers tell government

The Ghana Accra Poultry Farmers Association (GAPFA) wants the government to act quickly to avert a total collapse of the poultry industry.

The industry, according to GAPFA, has for a very long time been faced with various challenges, hence their call.

Measures the poultry farmers are proposing include regular engagements with industry players and key stakeholders to deliberate on the way forward in restoring the once vibrant industry. According to the group, although the government has scrapped the 30% benchmark value reduction policy, – a measure they believe is in the best interest of the industry (since there will be less importation of poultry products into the country) – more needs to be done.

A Board Member of the Association, Kwame Ntim Duoduo, believes that “if the government were to meet the poultry farmers and work out the maths together on how much maize is needed for the industry, that will be a solution to the shortages” they have been facing.

He also believes measures geared towards decreasing importation of poultry products into the country will significantly boost the local poultry industry.

Currently, Ghanaians consume about 400,000 tonnes of poultry products annually. This corresponds to roughly 13 kg per person.

However, only 58,000 tonnes come from domestic production – the rest is imported. Reports further indicate that the import of chicken meat accounts for 80 percent of the country’s total meat imports. In 2019, the Ghanaian government launched an initiative to promote the rearing of poultry in the country.

Proposing a way to deal with the situation, Mr Duoduo noted that “government [must engage them] and say in one or two years we want to reduce importation of poultry by this amount, so position [poultry farmers] yourselves to fill that space so that, that amount of chicken which will no longer be imported in Ghana.

“So farmers should take that up. So before any policy changes like the benchmark…farmers can make up for that shortfall, so we have to work together,” he added.

In January this year, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) commenced the implementation of the government’s policy directive on the reversal of the reduction of values of imports on 43 selected items.

In implementing the policy, government through the According to GRA, this is to ensure that importers or agents pay 100 per cent duty on selected items. The benchmark policy was introduced in 2019, in accordance with the World Customs

Organisation’s policy of regular review of valuation databases. It covered goods such as home delivery value of vehicles, goods on which benchmark values are applied and all other goods. Under this policy, certain commodities were benchmarked to the prevailing world prices as a risk management tool to reflect the true market dynamics of these commodities.

It also considered factors such as protection of health, the environment, and security, as well as protection of local industries.

  • Presidency budget too high; cut it – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

Former President Mahama has called on government to bring the country’s public expenditure within acceptable and prudent limits.

According to him, the 30% cut in expenditure across board announced by the Minister in his mid-year budget statement was ineffective.

“It appears that this cut is not working as Government expenditure in the first half of the year appears to have significantly exceeded the target,” Mr Mahama said while speaking on the Ghanaian economy on the topic ‘Building the Ghana we want’.

He added that the “Minister rather than a vague reference to percentage cuts, must be specific in what areas these expenditures are to be cut.

“This will give a clear picture of the expenditure reduction and how much will be saved from the directive.”

He intimated that some austerity measures ought to be taken including reducing the size of government, scrapping or merging needless secretariats and agencies, and cutting the Budget of the Office of Government Machinery among others.

“The budget of the Office of Government Machinery has ballooned over the last six years from a little over GH¢700 million to GH¢3.1 billion in 2022.

“Expenditure rationalization, to be successful, must first start in the President’s office. Substantial savings of GH¢1 billion or more can be made by slashing the budget of the Office of Government Machinery.”

  • Henry Cavill teases return as Superman, says it will be ‘Enormously Joyful’

Henry Cavill has shed more light in his return to the role of Superman, saying this version will be “enormously joyful.”

“The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope,” Cavill said during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast at 92NY in New York City, per Variety. “It’s amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”

The British actor said he first got the call about returning while he was in the midst of filming his Netflix fantasy series The Witcher, and that he wasn’t allowed to tell the team about Superman’s return. When he was able to sneak away from filming and head to Warner Bros., he recalled slipping on the suit again for the first time, and said it was a “powerful moment.”

“I went to Warner Bros.’ studio in the UK and got back in the suit,” Cavill said. “It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn’t sure how I would feel…whether it would be something very emotionally connective because I put the ‘Man of Steel’ suit back on. I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit. It was important for me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again.”

He added, “I told myself I’m gonna let it sit and simmer in the background. I never lost hope, that was the key for me.” However, he was unable to give any more information about the next Superman film.

THR wrote the “intention is for Cavill to star in at least one solo Superman movie,” with Cavil’s last solo Superman being 2013’s Man of Steel. He also co-headlined 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; both from director Zack Snyder.

Cavil initially confirmed his return as Superman in a social media post.

“I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman,” he wrote at the time. “Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”

  • Wereko-Brobby calls out Majority MPs over U-turn on Ofori-Atta’s fate

An astute member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Wereko-Brobby, is disappointed in the Majority Caucus over their decision to allow the Finance Minister to stay in office till the IMF negotiations are completed.

Owing to their sudden change of mind, Dr Wereko-Brobby, who can be remembered for his role in the Kume Preko demonstration in 1995, described the MPs as having lost their credibility.

“The complete U-turn for me is nothing but shameful. The people who originally issued this statement said that the Finance Minister had lost credibility and, therefore, this was affecting the discussions and pace of the outcome of the negotiations.
“The whole statement was premised on the need for change now. So the recent statement has now added them to those who have lost credibility,” he said during an interview on Joy FM monitored by The Independent Ghana.

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, 80 MPs called for the dismissal of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori- Atta, and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen. The legislators were appalled at the economic incompetence of the duo.

They threatened to boycott all activities of the House if the government failed to heed their call.

The move, which has been described as unprecedented and lauded by many, has rather been marred by the sudden change of mind of the MPs, following an appeal from the President to hold on with their decision until negotiations with the IMF are complete.

The MPs have (hesitantly) agreed to the President’s request.

With this, Mr Wereko Brobby noted that the said MPs who were calling for the dismissal of Mr Ofori-Atta “have joined the group of incredulous politicians.”

Buttressing his point, Dr Wereko- Brobby noted that “the people who originally issued this statement said that the Finance Minister has lost credibility and, therefore, this was affecting the discussions and pace of the outcome of the negotiations.

“The whole statement was premised on the need for change now. So the recent statement has now added them to those who have lost credibility. People don’t understand that it is not the Fund that is telling us what to do. We have to present a credible programme that they can add their credibility to to ensure that others can see us as credible,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of IDEG, Dr Emmanuel Akwetey, who was also on the show, shared a varied opinion.

Dr Akwetey argued that, given the current circumstances, President Akufo-Addo could only appeal to the NPP MPs and negotiate with them to hold on to their decision. “I do not think the President has had his way except that he said we are in a negotiation and in some weeks steps will be taken.

“I don’t know how the negotiation went but if they trusted their leader that his word will be done in terms of the minister standing down, this is the position they’ve taken and we should hold them to it,” he noted.

  • St Pauli boss Timo Schultz praises Ghana forward Braydon Manu ahead of Darmstadt encounter

St Pauli manager Timo Schultz has eulogized Ghanaian forward Braydon Manu ahead of the Bundesliga II clash against SV Darmstadt.

Manu, who earned Ghana call up under CK Akonnor has been on top form this season for Darmstadt, contributing eight goals in 13 matches for the club.

The German-born Ghanaian spent his youth days at St Pauli and left an impression on Schlutz before leaving the club in 2013.

On Saturday, St Pauli will play host to Darmstadt in matchday 14 of the second-tier league.

And ahead of the game, the St Pauli boss has heaped praise on the Ghanaian attacker.

“He was with us before I came to our NLZ,” said Schultz during the pre-match interview.

But I was told that he was always in a good mood and had a lot of energy. He wasn’t always well organized, but as you can see, a player’s path doesn’t always have to be straight. Guys like him are always good for a team. You can see his skills, the joy and energy with which he plays on the pitch,” he added.

He will hope to make the Ghana squad for the 2022 World Cup to be played in Qatar.

  • GPHA calls for a 20% tax increment on sugary beverages

The Ghana Public Health Association (GPHA) wants a 20 percent tax increment to be slapped on sugar-sweetened beverages.

This, the group believes, will drastically reduce the rate of consumption of such beverages, which is detrimental to the health of individuals.

Speaking during a float in Kumasi, a member of the Association, Dr Abena Akyeamah Bimpeh, called for a comprehensive action plan geared towards reducing the marketing of sugary drinks on the market to be drawn.

“Fiscal policies that lead to at least a 20 percent increase in the retail price of sugary drinks would result in proportional reductions in consumption of such products,” she noted.

The float was intended to raise public awareness of the growing detrimental impacts of consuming sugary drinks.

Touching on the side effects of these sugary beverages, she mentioned that people who consume too much of such products risk getting type two diabetes and also risk being obese.

Additionally, she mentioned that people who consumed such drinks on a daily basis had a 26 per cent risk of developing type two diabetes than people who rarely consume them. High consumers of sugar drinks also have a high risk of developing hypertension.

Throwing more light on the effect of these drinks, the Project Lead, Mr James McKeown Amoah, emphasised that they are inimical to the health of the public.

He mentioned that obesity was a major factor for heart diseases, cancers and other Non- Communicable Diseases, hence, the need for every individual to reduce the rate of consumption of these products.

Aside from its negative effects, Mr Amoah said sugary products had no nutrients except calories, which are also inimical to the health of consumers.

On her part, a Dietician at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Mrs Cynthia Asante, cautioned the public against eating unhealthy diet.

He stressed the need for a balanced diet, emphasizing that it is necessary to enhance good health.

  • Actors allege Toronto talent agency withheld thousands of dollars in wages

Actors represented by Compass Artist Management Inc. allege that the Toronto-based talent agency withheld thousands of dollars from them after the company and its president withheld payment for jobs that had been completed months ago.

On Oct. 19, the agency announced that it was ceasing operations immediately leading to clients wondering if they’d ever receive the money they were owed. As of Oct. 24, Compass was still incorporated and still had a registered business name.

According to The Globe and Mail, Jennifer Dzialoszynski noted that her agent had resigned and had been dodging all her emails. She then learned that the agency had received payment for stunt work that she had done for a TV show, nearing $53,000, but hadn’t transferred Dzialoszynski’s cut to her.

The financial crimes unit of the Toronto police noted that they had received more than 24 complaints against Compass Artist Management Inc. and said a criminal investigation has been opened. No charges have been laid out and no court proceedings have begun.

60 artists allege that they are owed north of $500,000 total by Compass Artist Management Inc.

Agency director Daniel Phillip Friedman issued a statement to The Toronto Star saying he never did anything “with bad intentions.”

“I couldn’t feel worse or be more genuinely sorry and sad about how this has affected people,” Friedman said. “I hope people will believe I left no stone unturned to try and resolve this before it got to this point. I also want people to know that I am not sitting on money, assets, secret homes in the Bahamas, etc.”

Friedman then sent a mass email that addressed the departure of his sister, Robyn Friedman, the agency’s co-founder from Compass.

One of the agency’s clients, Shaun Hepburn, said the email caught him by surprise and claimed that Compass owed him and his 10-year-old son more than $24,000.

“He is not going to get away with this,” he told The Globe and Mail.

Another actor, Ali Momen, organized a GoFundMe campaign, in order to help raise funds for the agency’s clients to pursue legal recourse against Compass.

  • Man named in YSL RICO indictment found guilty in unrelated murder, sentenced to life in prison

Jayden Myrick, an associate of Young Thug’s YSL collective, has been convicted of murder in a case unrelated to the larger one that has been underway since May.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 22-year-old was found guilty Thursday in connection to the fatal shooting of Christian Broder. The incident took place in July 2018, when the victim was shot outside the Capital City Country Club in Atlanta.

Investigators say Broder was a DC restaurant manager who had traveled to Georgia for a wedding. He and his family were reportedly outside the venue waiting for an Uber when Myrick and three others allegedly pulled up and robbed them of their wallets, cell phones, and $100 in cash.

Prosecutors say Broder attempted to reason with the group and followed them to their car. It was at that point Myrick allegedly opened fire on Broder, wounding him in the stomach.

Myrick, who was 17 at the time, was arrested on July 13, 2018 and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The charges were upgraded one week later, after Broder died from his injuries.

On Thursday, Myrick—who denied shooting Broder—was found guilty of multiple felony counts, including murder, armed robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and criminal gang activity. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

During the trial, Myrick opened up about his gang affiliations as well as his ties to YSL. He was also named in the 56-count indictment that charged Thug, Gunna, and other YSL associates of criminal gang activity and racketeering. As noted, the Broder case is unrelated to these charges.

Myrick also told the court he was affiliated with Nine Trey Gangsters and is a current member of 4PF—the name of Lil Baby’s record label. Though Lil Baby and his crew are not facing a RICO case, many suspect they could be targeted.

Those concerns were fueled earlier this year, when the Fulton County district attorney announced Atlanta would see more high-profile RICO cases before the end of summer.

Lil Baby responded to fans’ warnings via Twitter in July, writing, “Only god can judge me.”

  • Kanye West returns to Instagram amid continued fallout, says he ‘lost 2 billion dollars in one day’

The artist formerly known as Kanye West made his return to Instagram on Thursday, telling his 18.3 million followers he “lost two billion dollars in one day.”

Ye’s return to the platform comes amid continued fallout spurred by a series of comments widely condemned as anti-Semitic, including remarks he made on IG. At one point, Meta took action by restricting Ye’s account, with similar action later being taken by Twitter after Ye tweeted he was “going death con 3 on Jewish people.”

In one of his return-marking posts, Ye mentioned Ari Emanuel, the CEO of Endeavor. In a recent Financial Times op-ed, Emanuel urged businesses to distance themselves from Ye so as not to give his “misguided hate” amplification.

“There should be no tolerance anywhere for West’s antisemitism,” Emanuel said. “This is a moment in history where the stakes are high and being open about our values, and living them, is essential. Silence and inaction are not an option.”

Thursday, Ye shared what he billed as a “love speech,” seemingly addressed to Emanuel.

“I lost two billion dollars in one day,” Ye wrote. “And I’m still alive. This is love speech. I still love you. God still loves you. The money is not who I am. The people is who I am.”

Elsewhere, Ye shared a screenshot of a satirical “Ye has reportedly cut ties with Kanye West” post. In another update, 50 Cent was brought into the conversation, as was Donda Academy. Earlier on Thursday, a report from The Times stated that Ye’s Donda Academy was “immediately” closing for the remainder of the school year.

  • Saanie Daara explains why Barnieh and Danlad should be named in Ghana’s World Cup squad

Ibrahim Sannie-Daara, a former spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association, has outlined the significance of including Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Danlad Ibrahim in the Black Stars roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

After being excluded from the international competition in Russia 2018, where France won, Ghana is making a comeback.

The seasoned Ghanaian journalist supported the pair’s participation in the Black Stars lineup for the World Cup in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM.

According to him, Barnieh and Danlad inclusion in the team will fall into the plan of the GFA president, Kurt Okraku.

“My mind is on two players, Barnieh and Danlad because their inclusion in the Black Stars will fall into the strategy of the President of Ghana Football Association (Kurt Okraku).”

“Why do I say so? If we intend to promote players from the Ghana U-20 team to the Black Stars, and now we have Fatawu Issahaku in there, then Barnieh and Danlad who were teammates at the U-20 level addition won’t be bad and it will fall into our strategy that we are promoting players and we are giving them gradual progression.”

Ghana has been housed in Group H at the Mundial against Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

The Black Stars will open their World Cup account against Portugal on November 24 before taking on Uruguay and South Korea respectively.

  • My goal scoring record at Asante Kotoko is strange – Eric Bekoe

Former Asante Kotoko striker, Eric Bekoehas lifted the lid on his goal-scoring record during his short stay with the Porcupine Warriors.

Eric Bekoe joined the Porcupine Warriors from Hearts of Lions in 2007 after making 24 appearances and scoring 20 goals.

“My record is strange because within a season I was the top scorer, best player at the same time, Africa to I got the top scorer, confederation I scored 10 out of 10 and the SWAG too I also received that.”

“And I also got a car for the best player apart from that when they rated the whole world that 2008 I was 25th,” he said on Ernest Brew Smith TV as monitored by footballghana.com

“It is not Africa the whole world I was the 25th top goal scorer. • Kwadwo Asamoah and I had best chemistry – Asamoah Gyan

In terms of playing style, former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan regarded former Black Stars, Juventus, and Inter Milan midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah as his best teammate during his time with the national side.

Asamoah Gyan started playing for the Black Stars in 2003, and after 109 appearances for Ghana, he holds the record for most appearances ( until recently equalled by Andre Dede Ayew).

He participated in three FIFA World Cups and seven AFCONs during that time.

He leads Africa in World Cup goal scoring with six goals and leads Ghana in all-time international goals with 51.

“My teammates trusted me. When you are in a team where your teammates trust you, it makes things easier. They know you have pace so they don’t even look when they are giving you a pass. They just try to put the ball behind the opponent’s defence and they know you can get it”, he revealed as the secret to his success.

Reminiscing on his Black Stars career on “Soccer Chat” with Fiifi Banson on GHOne TV, he revealed that he appreciated the rapport on the field that he built with Kwadwo Asamoah.

“Although Kwadwo Asamoah was playing behind me, the communication was there. He was like a number 10 so he knew every movement I was making.”

Gyan was quick to add that, “there were others too. Sulley Muntari, Laryea Kingston and Stephen Appiah. All of them knew my movements so when passing the ball to me they did not need to look.”

Gyan believes that, for the upcoming strikers to reach the heights he attained at the Black Stars they will have to cultivate the habit of speaking with the midfielders before games.

“When you’re going into a game, call the midfielders and tell them how you want the ball to be placed for you. At least one to two of such chances might work. If you do not communicate before the game, things may go wrong during the game”, he noted.

He also gave the upcoming strikers a key dose from the striker’s manual.

“As a striker, my advice to the youngsters is that when you get into position (the 18 yard box), you just have to hit the target, your eyes must be fixed on the ball because you already know where the post is. How to strike the ball is very key, make sure you strike it well”, Gyan added.

Asamoah Gyan believes the Black Stars will be scoring more goals if the attackers are given the needed ball supplies especially when they are making good runs.

“When a striker is making some runs, just feed him with the ball. Maybe not every time, but give it a try. Don’t wait till you are under pressure to score a goal or racing against time before you begin to get in through balls for the striker”, he opined.

  • It’s not compulsory you have to go to the World Cup after playing in qualifiers – Habib Mohammed

Even though they participated in qualifying, Habib Mohammed claims that the coach has the last say in which players join the World Cup roster.

The Black Stars’ interim roster, which Otto Addo submitted to FIFA on October 21, 2022, has not yet been made public.
Prior to Ghana’s departure for Doha, Qatar, Addo will reduce the big provisional roster to 26 players.

The former left-back for King Faisal and Kotoko said that Ratomir Dujkovi selected him despite missing the 2006 World Cup qualification matches due to his performance in two pre-tournament friendlies.

“I didn’t play in the World Cup qualifiers [in 2006], but before the tournament, I played two friendlies and impressed coach Ratomir Dujkovic, who included me in the squad,” he told Onue Sports

“It’s not compulsory that because you participated in qualifiers you have to go to the World Cup. The final decision is made by the coach. Whether or not a player competed in qualifiers, the coach decides who goes to the World Cup,”

At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Habib Mohammed played in two matches for Ghana, helping the country in making it all the way to the knockout rounds for the first time.

Mohammed made a total of eight appearances for the senior national team the Black Stars.

  • 50 Cent tells Ye to start ‘shutting the f*ck up’ amid Hitler Fandom allegations: ‘People are really hurt’ (UPDATE)

UPDATED 10/28, 12:30 a.m. ET: Once 50 Cent caught wind of further allegations regarding Kanye’s alleged history of admiration for Adolf Hitler, things took a less humorous turn, with the Queens mogul telling Ye to start “shutting the fuck up.”

“I have never seen anything like this before,” 50 opened his Instagram caption on a screenshot of CNN’s article about the aforementioned Hitler fixation. “I think Kanye should buy the car he likes the best and just ride off into the sun set, it’s really a wrap. People are really hurt by this shit. I have seen people in this position because of thing they have did not things they have said. Now you gotta master the art of shutting the fuck up! … you gonna make everybody hot. Go cool off!”

The post was deleted a little more than an hour after going up.

50 Cent's Instagram post about Kanye
    Image via Instagram

Several hours prior he shared a screenshot of Kanye saying “we got Donda school designs we need to build with 50 in Houston.”

Fiddy captioned that one, also since deleted, “OK YE lets build a school in Houston but go cool off, n***a you hot right now the Feds all on you!”

    See original story below.

50 Cent referenced Kanye West’s swift fall from grace amid his embrace of anti-Semitism, and joked that he’s cut ties with himself via an Instagram post.

“Curtis Jackson has reportedly cut ties with 50 Cent,” the post reads alongside two photos of Fif side-by-side. “I’m getting rid of anybody who can get me f*cked up like Kanye right now! LOL.”

Fif’s post joking about the situation comes not long after Ye shared an image of a satirical headline that reads, “Ye has reportedly cut ties with Kanye West.” Ye also noticed 50 Cent’s post and re-shared it himself, adding, “We got Donda school designs we need to build with 50 in Houston.”

Young Thug joined in by posting a tweet that read, “JEFFERY HAS REPORTEDLY CUT TIES WITH YOUNG THUG.”

N.O.R.E. did his part as well.

The artist formerly known as Kanye West has made a string of anti-Semitic comments as of late, and even suggested that he wants to “go DEATH CON 3 on Jewish people.” He denied accusations that he’s been anti-Semitic by suggesting that he doesn’t believe anti-Semitism is real.

The list of companies that have cut ties with Kanye since he embraced Nazi sensibilities have included Balenciaga, entertainment studio MRC, talent agency CAA, his Yeezy partners Adidas, Foot Locker, and even Madam Tussauds.

Following the termination of his deal with Adidas, a report from Forbes said that Ye is “no longer a billionaire.” He has since backed up those claims in a post on Instagram, where he said he “lost 2 billion dollars in one day.”

  • Tobi releases new single “She Loves Me,” announces new album ‘Panic’

Tobi’s new album is on the horizon. Along with the release of his latest single “She Loves Me,” the Toronto-based rapper also announced the title of his forthcoming project Panic.

“I wanted to make a song that is warm and celebrated sensuality,” said Tobi in an announcement. “I feel like nowadays people think being toxic is cool, and they should lean into it as if vulnerability is not in style. But truth will never go out of style. I’m just a real lover, I can’t help it, I gotta put that on record, for better or for worse. This song unlocks another dimension to my mind and artistry.”

Vulnerability and warmth will be recurring themes across Panic as Tobi said he approached the new project with a focus on soul music and honest lyrics. Brockhampton member Dom McLennon directed the trailer for the album.

“PANIC is the epitome of unapologetic soul music and we held nothing back on it — something I am truly proud of,” Tobi explained. “From stories of vulnerability and masculinity, to personal family issues and social commentary, there was no stone left unturned here.

I can’t wait for the world to consume it in full, and I hope people appreciate the work and energy put into this, because we aimed to raise the artistic ceiling higher than what it currently is.”

Panic is due out on Mar. 30, 2023.

  • Sulley Muntari reveals why he left Hearts of Oak and rejected Asante Kotoko

Sulley Muntari declined to extend his contract with the Phobians after helping Accra Hearts of Oak win the FA Cup and enabling the team qualify for the 2022–2023 CAF Confederations Cup.

The six-month contract with Hearts was terminated after contract renewal negotiations fell through.

The former AC Milan and Inter Milan player has at last revealed the rationale for his decision to decline Hearts’ contract renewal.

According to Muntari, he did not want to disgrace himself and put a dent on his legacy after his suggestions on how to improve the squad for their African campaign proved futile.

Speaking to Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, Muntari who was close to joining Hearts’ rivals Asante Kotoko after failed talks with the Phobians said both clubs did not want to build their team the European way.

“Yeah, I had a few talks with them(Kotoko) I spoke to some board members because I wanted to help them in Africa. (But) I was with Hearts of Oak at that time. My contract had run out and I was talking with them to build a very, very strong team. I didn’t want to go and disgrace myself in the African campaign. If you qualify for the CAF Champions League or any other CAF competition or even Europe, you prepare for that. You augment the squad that you qualified with some good players and build the team.”

“So I was talking with Hearts to build the team but the management had different ideas. And if someone has a different idea, although you tell them to do stuff, if they don’t want to do it, you don’t push it. I’ll tell you the truth, I didn’t want to go and disgrace myself. And I know I’ve really worked hard in terms of football, so for me to come and let some little things wipe all the work that I’ve done, no. I won’t do it, no. So I was talking with Kotoko about the same(thing),” he added.

He clarified that his attempt to join Kotoko was not because Hearts failed to adopt his suggested models.

“It is not because Hearts didn’t do as I said that’s why I wanted to go to Kotoko, no. But even if it’s second division, it’s the same mentality I would come up with, so you can build a strong team. Because the moment you build a strong team, the following year you can sell two or three players then you get money then you build the team again. Most of the teams we played in Europe that’s what they do.”

Both Hearts of Oak and Kotoko got kicked out of their respective African campaigns after their first games.

Asante Kotoko lost 4-3 on penalties to Burkinabe side RC Kadiogo in the first round of the CAF Champions League while Hearts lost 3-1 on aggregate to Malian side, AS Bamako in the CAF Confederations Cup.

  • Black Stars will make greater impact in Qatar than 2006 – Ghana’s High Commissioner to UK

Papa Owusu-Ankomah, the High Commissioner of Ghana to the UK, believes that the Black Stars will make a bigger impression at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Ghana than the 2006 team did.

As the only African team to advance past their group in the World Cup, Ghana made their debut in 2006 and made it to the round of 16.

Owusu-Ankomah, who served as the delegation head for the 2006 team, claimed that the current Black Stars had more international exposure and have the potential to have a bigger influence than the group he led.

“I led the team to the World Cup in 2006, 16 years ago. of course, we didn’t achieve much but we made an impact. And I would think that presently, with the crop of players we have with more global exposure, they will make a greater impact,” he told Saddick Adams in an interview.

Ghana’s best finish in the tournament came in 2010 when they made the quarter-finals.

Their last appearance on the world stage in 2014 ended in a disaster as they suffered a group stage exit, amassing just a point.

In the 2022 edition, the Black Stars have a tall order at the World Cup as they have pitted against Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay in Group H of the World Cup.

They will begin their World Cup campaign against Portugal on November 24, followed by South Korea on November 28, and conclude against Uruguay on December 2 at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakra.

  • Kevin Feige reacts to James Gunn becoming co-head of DC studios: ‘I’ll be first in line to see anything he does’

Kevin Feige is apparently pumped about James Gunn’s new gig.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed Gunn and producer Peter Safran will co-head DC Studios—a newly formed division that’ll house DC Universe film, TV, and animation projects. Feige was asked about the move during Wednesday’s red carpet event for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

“Well, he has got a lot of work to do for Marvel between now and May, which he’s well aware of,” the Marvel boss told Deadline. “But after that, I’ll be first in line to see anything he does.”

He made similar comments while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, insisting he was happy about Gunn’s new role, despite it being at one of Marvel’s biggest competitors.

“I speak to James almost every day. We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out,” he said. “We have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May. How he’ll have any time to work on DC until May I don’t know, but once he does have the time I’ll be very excited. I’ll be first in line.”

Gunn had worked with Marvel on a number of projects, including the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The filmmaker will reportedly oversee DC Studios’ creative direction, while Safran will helm the business and production sides. Gunn confirmed the appointment via Instagram, telling fans he was “excited to be here.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will premiere Nov. 25 on Disney+, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.

  • Jeezy on Nas inspiring him to stay ‘calm’ during Freddie Gibbs beef: ‘I’ve been on the other side of that’

Jeezy says Nas helped inspire him to squash his beef with Freddie Gibbs.

In an interview with Billboard, the rapper credited Nas with allowing him to move on from his issues with Gibbs, with whom he publicly reconciled earlier this year. “When I realized that most of the time people act out, you don’t have to match energy and engage or react—because, at the end of the day, especially with the Freddie shit, it was just bad communication,” he said, echoing comments Gibbs made himself in interviews promoting his new album, Soul Sold Separately.

“Same thing with [Rick] Ross—just bad communication, and it took the right people to get in the mix,” he continued. “What I have learned is the same when Nas did ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’ and I reacted. I was kinda spazzing out on the radio, if you remember.

“I’ll never forget when I got in the car from the radio station, somebody from Def Jam was like, ‘Nas wanna holla at you. He’s on the phone.’”

He said that when he got the call from Nas, he answered ready for a fight. In fact, he suggested they could even “race cars” or “shoot guns” to figure out their differences. “He said, ‘What’s up, King?’ He asked how I’m feeling, and he was like, ‘I can understand your frustration, but let me explain what I’m saying, and how it has nothing to do with you,’” recalled Jeezy.

“He was so calm—and I always remembered that. When me and Freddie [Gibbs] had our thing, that was one of the reasons I remained calm—because I’ve been on the other side of that,” he said. Gibbs and Jeezy had issues over how the former was handled at CTE World, the latter’s record label. Gibbs has admitted that he was the one who “made it personal,” and has taken responsibility for making the situation worse.

“So I’m hearing his frustration, and I get it, because we’re doing business and not everybody’s gonna be happy,” said Jeezy.

“It’s like being married, you gotta communicate. You can’t be like, ‘I’m gonna blow the whole house up.’”

  • Government’s expenditure on 2020 campaign, the cause of Ghana’s economic woes – Prof. Peter Quartey

Director of Research, Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER), Professor Peter Quartey, has blamed Ghana’s economic challenges on government’s expenditure during the 2020 political campaign season.

According to Prof Quartey research conducted by the ISSER on the 2021 and 2022 economic outlooks revealed that, the Akufo- Addo government exceeded its budget due to the initiatives it put in place to secure a second term.

He indicated that the government, as part of efforts to retain power, borrowed money to fund projects.

Presenting the findings of the report in Accra, he mentioned that “when you look at our expenditure during political periods, I think elections can also be blamed for where we are at the current economic situation. We overspent on so many projects, we cut sod for a lot of projects that we have to borrow to fund them.”

“So, in the end, we use three years to clear the mess. Every election year we enter into such situations

then two years after the election, there are fiscal challenges,” Prof. Quartey added.

For him, borrowing funds to fulfill campaign promises in order to amass votes does not augur well with the country’s finances.

Prof Quartey, therefore, admonished the government to minimise its expenditure during an election period.

He also encouraged President Akufo-Addo to reduce the size of the current government as part of efforts to cut down spending.

This, he says, will ensure the excess revenue is used to finance infrastructure projects, among others.

“I can’t put a number to how many ministers the government should have but the President must look at merging some of the ministries and get the work done. There shouldn’t be duplication in any role,” he said.

  • Some dishonest ‘trotro’ drivers implement new fares ahead of October 29 start date

Some public transport operators have started implementing new transport fares, thereby exploiting Ghanaians, The Independent Ghana can confirm.

This is a violation of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union’s (GPRTU) directive, which states that new transportation fares will be implemented beginning Saturday, October 29, 2022.

The GPRTU reached an agreement with President Akufo-Addo and other transport operators across the country on an increment rate of 19%, which was then announced on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

However,onThursdaymorning, October 27, some commercial drivers and their conductors (mate), applied the new rate without regard for the concerns of unprepared passengers.

A trip from Pig Farm to Circle, which costs GH₵3.50 went for GH₵4.20. The new fare increased by 70 pesewas, as against the expected 66 pesewas.

When a passenger inquired as to why the new fare was implemented on Thursday rather than Saturday, the complicit driver and his mate remained silent.

Despite the blatant disregard for the GPRTU’s order, some commuters maintained their composure, claiming that the challenging economic climate was to blame.

On a different public transit moving from Circle to Taifa, The Independent Ghana observed that the old fares were still implemented.

Meanwhile, public transportation operators have blamed the yet-to-be-implemented rate on recent increases in fuel prices, as well as galloping inflation and the Cedi’s current depreciation.

This is the third time this year that transportation fares have been increased. Fares went up by 15% in February and then further up by 20% two months after. Transport fares have increased by 54% since the beginning of the year.

The Fast and Furious actor’s name began trending on Twitter after the Alamo Drafthouse New York City account tweeted out a computer animated image of a man bearing a distinct resemblance to Vin Diesel alongside a spoof claim regarding its origins.

“Scientists at Princeton University have reconstructed this 3D model of how Adam, the first human being created by God, might have looked,” they wrote alongside the picture.

The gag soon went viral, with the original tweet garnering over 11,500 retweets, 19,500 quote tweets and 128,700 likes. The Vin Diesel wisecracks, meanwhile, flew thick and fast.

“Was his name Vin Diesel?” Tisaiyan asked, while Mfanelo couldn’t resist a reference to Dom Toretto’s favorite catchphrase from the Fast and Furious movies, writing: “And God said unto him; let there be FAMILY.”

He wasn’t alone in that respect. Dr_Alexe dubbed the image: “The first family man,” with amee_ehelamal adding: “Bro didn’t lie when he said ‘family is everything.’ Bro started family.”

Others couldn’t resist coming up with their own spoof 3D reconstructions. One had a suggestion for Eve:

Another claimed to have found a reconstruction of Moses:

There was even a 3D rendering of Jesus:

But while plenty of people appeared to be in on the joke, a few seemed slightly confused and even a little bit angry.

2_Plate_Biriyani said: “Rubbish, Adam was said to be of dark complexion. His complexion is said to be similar to the people of Sudan.” Sharaadkuttan, meanwhile, rejected the basic premise commenting: “First human created by God”? There isn’t anything remotely scientific about this phrase.”

Alamo Drafthouse NYC tried to stress the entire thing was a joke, commenting under the tweet: “Just a reminder that we’re a movie theater, not an academic journal.”

Despite this, it seemed some were evidently unaware that the Vin Diesel tweet was part of an ongoing running joke online that has seen a variety of big names given the 3D-rendering treatment.

Earlier this week, a tweet from ColossusNick claimed: “Scientists at Stanford University have reconstructed this 3D model of how Joseph, the husband of Mary the Mother of Jesus Christ might have looked.”

The accompanying image was a bust of wrestling icon and The Princess Bride star André René Roussimoff, a.k.a .Andre the Giant.

Another viral tweet saw singer and actress Lady Gaga get the meme treatment with brotaminz posting a doctored image of the star alongside the claim: “Scientists at Stanford University have reconstructed this 3D model of how Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ might have looked.”

While the exact origins of the meme trend are unclear, they appear to be an attempt at lampooning the 3D renderings of ancient species created by institutions like the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and celebrity culture.

Newsweek has contacted the Alamo Drafthouse for comment.

  • Anti-gay bill: Hasten your work, it’s a global waves bill – Bagbin to Anti-gay bill committee

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has asked the Committee working on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill to speed up its work in presenting its report to the house.

Minority members have accused the committee of intentionally delaying work on the bill and threatened to block the passage of other government bills if the anti-gay bill was not addressed as soon as possible.

In his opening remarks, Alban mentioned that “We are also expecting the report on the Bill on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values. That is also a priority Bill causing “global waves”.

It is reported that the majority of Ghanaians are in favour of the bill, but some renowned artists are not.

The Bill states that people of the same sex who engage in sexual activity could face up to a ten-year prison term.

If the bill is passed, various forms of support for the LGBTQ+ community will also be criminalized.

It has, however, sparked widespread debate, with many people expressing differing opinions about some of the document’s provisions.

However, as a result of the pressure on parliament to pass the bill, it is alleged that MPs who support the bill may be denied certain privileges by members of the international community.

Many individuals and organisations have also submitted memoranda in support of the bill and to assist in its refinement.

Memoranda have also been filed by some civil, legal, and academic professionals challenging some of the provisions of the bill.

As stated in the memoranda, they argue that the bill is an “impermissible invasion of the inviolability of human dignity.”

They further argued that pushing through the bill would be to challenge Ghana’s constitution and democracy.

However, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, also assured that Parliament would not be influenced by international relations to go against Ghana’s interests.

He referred to Article 40 (a) of Ghana’s constitution, which states that “the driving principle that should underpin our international relations.”

Per the constitution, “the government shall promote and protect the interests of Ghana in its dealings with other nations,” Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated.

  • Enough is Enough, resign now – NDC Youth Wing tells Akufo-Addo

The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked President Akufo-Addo to step down from office.

In a press statement signed by the National Youth Organiser of the Party, George Opare Addo, they noted that Ghana has been plunged into a series of devastating economic crises under the watch of President Akufo-Addo.

He further stated that any attempt by the government to salvage the dwindling economy has rather wreaked havoc on the country.

This, George Opare Addo, says is a testament that the Akufo-Addo government lacks the wit to govern

    the country.

In the statement, he said, “Enough is enough! Ghanaians did not give you the mandate to put us through this level of suffering that has spared no family nor business. The Ghanaian people cannot continue to suffocate under your repressive and destructive misrule.”

“It has become apparent that you lack the fortitude to properly govern this country. We demand that you sack your finance minister and resign now, to stem the suffering that has engulfed our nation and save our country from further collapse and international ignominy!” part of the statement further read.

The group has threatened to embark on an unprecedented resistance towards the government should the President fail to resign.

The NDC youth wing also called on Ghanaians to be on standby to picket against the government to register their dysplasia about the gross mismanagement of the country.

    “If you remain headstrong and

refuse to sack the finance minister and resign from office as President, we will confront you with a level of resistance never experienced by any President in the history of our country.”

“We are by this medium calling on all young people of this country to picket at Government offices and protest across the country whenever they are called upon by the Leadership of the Youth Wing to do so.”

The call for President Akufo-Addo’s resignation comes at a time when scores of Ghanaians and some political actors have asked the President to relieve the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta of his post.

Discharging the Minister of his position, they claim will restore public confidence in the economy.

Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus in Parliament has filed a motion for a vote of censure against the Finance Minister.

  • Weija dam spillage: More homes and livelihoods to be affected

The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has, for the second time this year, opened the Weija Dam to allow the spillage of excess water.

The opening of the dam was necessitated after the sudden rise in the level of the dam.

According to the GWCL, the safe operation level of the Weija Dam is 47 ft. However, the level has risen to 47.9 feet, thus prompting the excess spillage to prevent a possible collapse of the dam.

The recent reopening of the dam comes barely a month after the first spillage left many residents in the Ga South Municipality displaced. A life was also lost as a result.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Tina Gifty Mensah, has cautioned residents in the area and its environs to be on the lookout and to vacate all their residences and shops to avoid any casualties.

Currently, areas such as Weija, Gbawe, and Ogbojo, affected by the spillage, are without electricity.

According to the Electricity Company of Ghana, although it is losing revenue, it cannot risk restoring power supply to these communities.

Communication Officer of the Accra West Electricity Company of Ghana, Fred Baimbill-Johnson, has explained that some ground-mounted transformers are in these flooded areas; therefore, it would be difficult to wheel power to the various communities.

Mr Baimbill-Johnson said, “we have some situations where some of our ground-mounted transformers are in flooded areas, so it is difficult to wheel power to the various communities.”

“Now we have done that knowing that indeed, once people are not using the power, it means that we are losing some revenue, but at this point in time, what is more paramount to us is to make sure that life and property are safe,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Abu Ramadan, says his outfit is working to expand and open more estuaries for the water from the Weija Dam spillage to run into the sea.

This, he says, will help minimise the damage caused by the floodwaters.

“Expand and open estuaries so that the water can run into the sea so that we can see the levels drop. That is the main focus for now.”

  • La La Anthony explains why she won’t get married again: ‘It didn’t work for me’

La La Anthony isn’t interested in marriage.

The actress appeared on The Breakfast Club on Thursday to discuss her views on tying the knot, now that she and Carmelo Anthony have been divorced for over a year.

I’m never getting married again,” she said around the 9:56 minute-mark. “It’s one of those things in life that I feel like I could check it off. Like, ‘Okay, I did that.’ Maybe people want to say they’ve experienced that. I’ve experienced it and I know the good and the bad that happened to me so it’s not something I want to experience again. I can have an incredible relationship with somebody and not be married.”

She continued, “And I’m not knocking anybody who’s married, it didn’t work for me. I’m all for anyone it worked for. I feel like marriage at times becomes very much like [a] business thing. And what I found with marriage is easy to get into and harder to get out of when you’re dealing with lawyers and this and that, and it just gets really complicated. I don’t feel like I need that.”

La La and Melo’s divorce became official in July 2021 a month after La La filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. La La recently revealed in Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast that Melo’s 2011 trade to the New York Knicks from the Denver Nuggets was the “start” of their rocky marriage, explaining that everything became “complicated” in New York.

She described Denver as being “laid-back” for her, but that New York came with extra “scrutiny,” and that “things got tough with New York, just constantly being under the spotlight and people watching every little thing.

The former couple became engaged in 2004 and said I do in 2010. Their now-15-year-old son Kiyan was born in 2007. In 2017, the pair first split and had been on and off since then.

La La also divulged that only 21 and 22-year-olds want to date her. “I don’t understand this. … I’m not saying when you get older you want to date younger guys, but when you get older, only younger guys want to date you,” she said.

  • Black Stars must see Portugal and Uruguay games as revenge – Laryea Kingston

Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston has charged the Black Stars to settle scores with Portugal and Uruguay to qualify for the knockout phase of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana lost 2-1 to Portugal in the 2014 edition and narrowly exited the 2010 World Cup at the hand of Uruguay through penalty shootouts.

Black Stars, who make a return to the tournament after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia take on Portugal in their first game in Group H on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

“It is going to be interesting at the World Cup because I see our games with Portugal and Uruguay as an opportunity for the boys to perform beyond their expectation,” Kingston told Daily Graphic.

“Against Portugal, the team must see it as a chance to seek revenge after losing to them in 2014 but Uruguay’s game will be something else.

He added, “I believe the team must do everything to beat Uruguay to put the entire continent at peace after what Suarez did to Africa in 2010. It is possible and I believe having that at the back of their minds alone should be enough to win that match.”

Black Stars will play Switzerland in an International friendly on November 17, before travelling to Qatar for the World Cup.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18

Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.

  • Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh to miss Bibiani Gold Stars clash

Hearts of Oak talisman Daniel Afriyie Barnieh will miss his side’s Premier League match week four encounter against Bibiani Gold Stars on Saturday.

The 21-year-old will be unavailable due to commitment with the Black Meteors ahead of the second leg of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Mozambique.

Barnieh bagged a brace for coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side as they won the first leg 2-1 in Maputo last Sunday.

  • Matt Barnes speaks out against Trans Women playing in WNBA

Former Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes shared his sentiments about trans athletes in a sit-down with VladTV, where he was asked about “trans players potentially playing for the WNBA.” Barnes told the host he typically believes “to each their own,” but not when it came to the world of sports.

“I don’t like that,” Barnes quickly responded. “You wanna be whatever you wanna be…I’m pro-make-your-choice. Do you, do this, but sports is different, you know what I mean? Sports is a different beast.”

He went on to speak about a trans professional fighter as well as collegiate swimmer Lia Thomas—the first openly transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I national championship. Barnes, 42, suggested both of those people had an unfair advantage in their sports.

“I don’t like that,” he reiterated. “If you’re born a woman, I think you should play women sports. And if you’re born a man, you should play man sports. But if you wanna be—if you wanna do whatever you wanna do with your life, I respect that. That’s not my business. But I just think the sports thing is just a little different.”

He continued, “It would change the whole dynamic of the game. To me, I just feel like to each their own. … But when it comes to sports, I think crossing that line is a line that shouldn’t be crossed.”

DJ Vlad then referenced a previous interview with Gilbert Arenas, who claimed his teenage daughters had played against trans athletes, but they simply weren’t on his kids’ level.

“They were horrible. … Not one is even decent,” the former Grizzlies star said about the trans athletes.

Barnes seemingly understood where Arenas was coming from, stating that gender identity isn’t always indicative of athleticism.

“You might just not be shit, period, in sports,” Barnes said. “It is what it is.”
