New York Mets weren’t too pleased with Emma Stone.
As pointed out by TMZ, the Oscar-winning actress was spotted at Queens’ Citi Field on Friday for Game 1 of the Wild Card series between the the Mets and the San Diego Padres. Stone attended the event with her husband, Dave McCary, who is a San Diego native and well-known Padres fan.
At one point during the game, the famous couple were shown on the jumbotron, rocking San Diego caps and bombers. The crowd, of course, wasn’t feeling the Stones’ Padre pride and began showering her with boos. Thankfully, the actress didn’t seemed to bothered and took the negative reaction in stride.
Video from the incident shows Stone looking at the jumbotron camera, smiling ear to ear before raising her beer in a toast. Sources tell TMZ she and McCary were also seen “dancing in the front row” during the opening, which makes sense as San Diego demolished New York 7-1.
Padres CEO Erik Greupner caught wind of the video and applauded Stone’s reaction.
“Style, grace and good taste …,” he tweeted. “Emma is always welcome @PetcoPark.”
The Mets and Padres will face off in Game 2 at 7:30 ET tonight. It’s unclear if Stone and McCary will be in attendance.
A Texas police officer has been fired after body cam footage captured him shooting an unarmed teenager in a McDonald’s parking lot.
The Associated Press reports San Antonio Officer James Brennand opened fire on Erik Cantu, 17, on Oct. 2 while Cantu was sitting in his car eating a hamburger.
“While Sunday’s shooting of an unarmed teenager by a then-San Antonio Police officer remains under investigation, the facts and evidence we have received so far led us to reject the charges against Erik Cantu for further investigation,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said.
“As we do with all officer-involved shootings that result in death or serious injury, we will submit the case to a Grand Jury for their consideration. Until that happens, we can make no further comment on this matter,” Gonzales added.
Brennand, who was on the police force less than a year, approached the teen, who opened the door before driving away, at which point Brennand shot several times at the car.
“The officer abruptly opened the driver’s door and ordered the driver out of the car” before the arrival of backup officers that Brennand had requested, Campos told reporters.
Cantu, who was hospitalized in stable condition, has been charged with evading police and aggravated assault.
“There is nothing I can say in defense of that officer’s actions that night,” Police Chief William McManus told WOAI-TV. “I think what happened, initially, there was some contact made, but that did not justify the shooting.”
Kanye West and Tremaine Emory are still at odds over the former’s recent comments about the late Virgil Abloh.
Earlier this week, Ye accused Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, of killing Virgil, who died in November 2021 after a battle with cancer. Shortly after posting the rant on social media, Emory, Supreme’s creative director, urged the rapper to not use the Virgil’s name as part of his “victim campaign” and alleged that Ye “rode on [Abloh] in group chats” and elsewhere.
“Ye tell the ppl why you didn’t get invited to Virgil’s actual funeral the one before the public one at the museum,” Emory said. “You knew Virgil had terminal cancer and you rode on him in group chats, at yeezy, interviews…YOU ARE SO BROKEN. KEEP VIRGIL NAME OUT YOUR MOUTH.”
On Friday, Kanye took to Instagram to share texts between him and Emory, as the pair discussed his relationship with Virgil.
Once again, Emory accused Kanye of riding Virgil, in addition to failing to mention why he wasn’t invited to Abloh’s funeral.
“You still ain’t tell the people why you weren’t invited at Virgil’s private funeral,” he wrote. “Why you rode on him when you knew he was sick. That’s the ether. That’s the shit you can’t address. The shit you can’t live with. All the hate you spewed on your brother.”
Kanye responded by alleging he wasn’t aware Virgil had cancer, writing, “Virgil never said anything to me himself.”
From there, he admitted being jealous of Virgil, claiming that he was hurt about Abloh’s relationship with Drake.
“I’ve made mistakes,” Ye wrote. “I was jealous of Virgil. I felt betrayed by and lied to by Virgil. I felt he gave Drake the green diamond watch just to fuck with me. But I love Virgil too and I miss him.”
Infamous scammer Anna Sorokin is no longer behind bars.
The Russian-born woman, better known by her alias Anna Delvey, was released from an upstate New York jail on Friday as she faces possible deportation. As part of her release, the 31-year-old con artist was ordered to post $10,000 bail, wear an electronic ankle monitor, and remain under 24-hour house arrest. People magazine reports the judge also prohibited Sorokin from using social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok.
Sorokin made national headlines after she scammed elite social circles by posing as a German heiress. Prosecutors alleged Sorokin had swindled more than $200,000 from associates, banks, five-star hotels, and other institutions during a years-long scheme. In 2019, she received a two-to-four-year prison sentence on multiple fraud charges, including grand larceny and theft of services. She was granted early release last year due to good behavior, but was arrested just six weeks later for overstaying her visa.
The woman, who also holds German citizenship, would spend the following 17 months in the Orange County Correctional Facility, where she made multiple bids to fight deportation and secure her release.
After a two-day hearing, Judge Charles Conroy went against prosecutors’ request and granted Sorokin’s release. He acknowledged that the woman “remains a present danger to the community and presents some flight risk,” but those risks could be “mitigated by specific alternatives to detention and monetary bond.”
“She will be required to abide by conditions of release imposed both by the New York State Parole Board and immigration authorities, which, combined with her status as a public figure, will make it particularly difficult for her to avoid detection,” the judge said. “For all of these reasons, the Court finds that [Sorokin’s] risk of flight sufficiently mitigated.”
Sorokin’s attorney, former acting ICE director John Sandweg, praised the decision.
“She hasn’t been accused of committing a crime since 2017,” he said. “And the evidence clearly demonstrated that any risk she does pose can be adequately managed through supervision, electronic monitoring, parole, and the supervision of ICE.”
Sorkin’s story was depicted in Netflix’s true crime limited series Inventing Anna, produced by Shonda Rhimes. The drama starred Julia Garner as the titular character, and went on to receive several Emmy nominations, including Primetime Emmy Awards Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
Justin Bieber reportedly plans to distance himself from Kanye West after the latter made comments about the former’s wife Hailey Bieber.
Earlier this week, Kanye took to social media to allege that Hailey had previous relations with Drake. From there, Ye ripped the model for getting a nose job, which she denies, writing, “They want corny ass Gigi Hadid and nose job Hailey Baldloose to rally behind an obvious Corey Gamble level nonfashion industry plant.”
Ye then targeted Justin, saying, “Get your girl before I get mad. You spose to be my friend right.”
TMZ reports Bieber has had enough of Kanye’s antics.
“Sources close to Justin and Hailey tell us they’re obviously hurt by Kanye’s attacks – especially since they were there for him in 2020 when he was going through a tough time in his life,” the outlet wrote.
Insiders told TMZ that though Bieber has previously supported West, the Chicago rapper’s recent comments have convinced Justin that “this time, he’s gotta distance himself and stand up for his wife.”
The news arrives just days after Kanye Bieber’s spouse showed kindness to Gabriella Karefa-Johnson following West’s targeting of the Vogue global fashion editor at large. Bieber wrote on her IG Stories, “My respect for you runs deep my friend! to know you is to adore you and to work with you is an honor. the most kind. the most talented. the most fun. the most chic.”
A Dallas woman is dead after her friend opened fire following a pick-up basketball game.
Fox 4 reports Asia Womack was killed Monday evening after playing basketball at T.G. Terry Park. According to her family, Womack won the game, at which point the shooter, who they say knew her, shot her five times as she walked home. Womack suffered several gunshot wounds, and was found lying on a sidewalk on Hamilton Avenue.
“This is so senseless,” the family’s pastor, John Delley, told Fox 4. “You become embarrassed basically because a female beat you in basketball.”
Womack’s mother, Andrea, said the shooter was a friend of Andrea’s.
“This was supposed to be a friend of Asia’s,” Womack’s mom told the outlet. “She’s eaten with the man, she’s fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way.”
Womack’s aunt said that the family is “taking it kind of hard because it was senseless,” adding, “I just don’t understand why you kill somebody over a basketball game.”
Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. There is a warrant out for arrest for the alleged shooter, who, according to CBS, is for 31-year-old Cameron Hogg.
“If you know where he is, where his whereabouts are, please turn him in.,” Andrea told the Fox outlet. “Help the family out. We’re hurting.”
According to researchers at Curtin University in Australia and Peking University in China, the world will experience a geological reconfiguration caused by the Pacific Ocean’s inevitable disappearance. The study, published by the National Science Review, highlights the fact that the globe’s oldest and largest ocean began shrinking during the dinosaur era, and continues to lose a few centimeters every year. This process, paired with the movement of tectonic plates, will lead to the formation of a new supercontinent known as “Amasia.”
Using calculations generated by a supercomputer, researchers determined Australia will attach to Asia as the Americas get pulled to the west. The masses will eventually collide, as Antarctica merges with South America, and Africa closes in on Europe.
But there’s no need for concern, as we’ll be long gone before the shifts take place. Evidence shows a supercontinent forms on the Earth every 600 million years. The last and most famous one was Pangaea, which formed about 300 million years ago and separated between 120 million and 130 million years later.
“Over the past two billion years, Earth’s continents have collided together to form a supercontinent every 600 million years, known as the supercontinent cycle,” lead author Dr. Chuan Huang said in a statement. “This means that the current continents are due to come together again in a couple of hundred of million years’ time.”
Keanu Reeves isn’t opposed to becoming a U.S. citizen. In fact, he seems pretty excited about the idea.
The 58-year-old Canadian actor addressed the topic during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Reeves, who was there to promote his new comic book BRZRKR, spoke about his early acting career and his decision to move from Toronto to Tinseltown.
“I came to Hollywood when I was 20. I drove in my car …” he said at the 9:11 mark. “I’ve been living here since 1985.”
“And, yet technically, you’re not a U.S. citizen,” the host pointed out, prompting Reeves to confirm he only had Canadian citizenship. “You’re a Canadian, and you’ll always be a Canadian, but is that not something you’re interested in, being a U.S. citizen?”
“Absolutely. Yeah, man, why not?” Reeves responded, before suggesting he send President Joe Biden a copy of BRZRKR to expedite the naturalization process.
Kimmel then reached under his desk and pulled out a stack of documents, claiming his team had gathered all the paperwork to apply for citizenship. The host then turned his direction to his Mexican-born sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez, who went through the same process before gaining citizenship in 2005.
“It’s real easy,” Rodriguez said. “You should do it.”
Kimmel then presented Reeves with a second option: “You and I could get married, if you wanted to. That would get you right in.”
“But you’re married,” Reeves replied. “You’d be a criminal, you’d be on the run, we’d have to be on the run, Jimmy.”
“I know, but I told her we might have to make some amendments to our constitution,” Kimmel explained.
Though the John Wick star was clearly uninterested in tying the knot, Kimmel offered to host a special ceremony if and when he ever became a U.S. citizen.
“And we’ll get all your favorite heroes,” Kimmel said, “Captain America and Wonder Woman will come here, it’ll be very patriotic.”
As a child, Danessa Myricks didn’t have much materially, but her parents showered her with love, support, and outlets for creativity. The difficulties young Danessa faced growing up, however, often took place outside of the home.
“One of the challenges that I had was that I never really saw anyone who looked like me outside of my family,” the Queens, New York native said. “I would see someone and want to change myself so that I could fit in.”
One day in school, Danessa recalls being in the lunchroom with her friends trying to decide who would be the leader of the crew. It was this moment Danessa remembers experiencing piercing colorism. ‘They were like okay, everybody put their fist in and the fairest [skinned] person was able to be the leader of the crew.”
It was moments like this that watered a seed of belonging inside of Danessa. The desire to be included and include others would later become a corner stone of her career.
As she got older and began developing her personal style, Danessa also fell in love with makeup, but noticed there weren’t as many options for dark-skinned Black girls. This unfortunate reality is what helped propel her to begin her brand.
“When I started the brand, I said to myself “I want to be the change that I want to see in the world.” Watch the video above to learn about Danessa’s long and steady road to becoming a successful and inclusive beauty brand owner.
Kanye returned to Twitter and made another comment about Jewish people, writing that he’ll be going “death con 3 on Jewish people.” He is likely referring to DEFCON 3.
“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE. The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”
He then implied Jewish people created cancel culture.
See original story below.
Instagram has given Kanye another slap on the wrist.
The social media platform confirmed Saturday it had restricted the artist’s verified account for alleged policy violations. A company spokesperson told NBC News their team has since removed the posts in question, but declined to provide details on the content.
NBC News points out the move came after Kanye posted his and Diddy’s text exchange, in which Ye made comments that some considered anti-Jewish.
“This ain’t a game,” Ye wrote to Diddy. “Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me. I told you this was war. Now gone get you some business.”
Kanye captioned the post: “Jesus is Jew.”
The Donda artist addressed Instagram’s decision via Twitter, where he shared a photo of him and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of IG’s parent company, Meta.
“Look at this Mark. How you gone kick me off instagram,” he wrote. “You used to be my n***a.”
Ye was also accused of antisemitism following his Thursday appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight, where he briefly mentioned the Abraham Accords peace agreements between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom of Bahrain. Ye claimed Jared Kushner—Donald Trump’s Jewish son-in-law—brokered the deal for personal profit.
“You know, he made these peace treaties. I just think it was to make money …” Kanye said, before mentioning Jared’s brother, Josh Kushner. “I just think that that’s what they’re about is making money. I don’t think that they have the ability to make anything on their own. I think they’re born into money … And it makes me feel like they weren’t serving my boy Trump the way they could’ve.”
Jewish advocacy groups criticized Kanye for his comments, claiming they perpetuated bigoted stereotypes and “antisemitic tropes like greed and control.” The American Jewish Committee (AJC) accused Ye of spewing “incoherent rants laden with racist and antisemitic undertones made on the country’s top cable news program.” They also slammed his “anti-Jewish” posts shared to his 18 million followers on Instagram.
This isn’t the first time Instagram has punished Kanye. The social media giant suspended his account back in March, after he used a racial slur in reference to The Daily Show host Trevor Noah.
Speaking on Joy News’ NewsFile programme monitored by GhanaWeb on Saturday (October 10), Dr. Tamakole warned that if a state of emergency is not declared soon, ‘galamsey’ will lead to the collapse of Ghana.
“Where we have reached with this thing, I believe it is time a decision is taken. And if a decision is not taken, this poor country called Ghana will faint. Because at the moment, the country is bleeding profusely.
“I will say if we really want to solve this problem, the state in which we are now is a state that we need what we call a declaration of a state of emergency, immediately. This must be put on military footing, and I can assure you, this will completely end this crisis,” he said.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo currently seems not to know what he is doing.
“It appears the president, at the moment, does not know exactly where he is going. It is so sad. I say it is so sad because I have backed him all my lifetime in politics, so I don’t see why he can’t take such an easy decision. The president I know who could say no and his no was his no, now cannot take decisions,” he noted.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refuted suggestions that his government is not committed to the fight against illegal small-scale mining (‘galamsey’).
According to Akufo-Addo, his government has been committed to the fight against the menace since his first day in office and its determination to curb it even cost his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), some votes in the 2020 General Elections.
The president, who made these remarks at a meeting with the National House of Chiefs and some Municipal Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in Kumasi, intimated that the votes he and his party lost showed that he really put his presidency on the line to fight ‘galamsey’.
“Since I took office on January 7th, 2017, nearly six years ago, I have made it a central feature of my presidency to lead in the fight to rid our country of this menace, which we all now call galamsey. Indeed, it was an important aspect of my inaugural address that day. It has not been easy; it has not been popular and we have not gotten the immediate results that I was looking for.
“Indeed, in the last election of 2020, my stance on the issue cost my party and I significant losses in the mining communities. It turned out that my statement that I was putting my presidency on the line in the fight against galamsey was neither bumbazed nor reckless. It was the simple truth,” he said.
The Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, has clashed with veteran broadcaster Dr. Randy Abbey over comments made by former President John Dramani Mahama on granting illegal miners (galamseyers) amnesty.
John Dramani Mahama, in October 2020, indicated that his government would grant amnesty to people who have been arrested in connection with illegal mining.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party has been biased in the arrest of citizens whilst turning a blind eye to foreigners who are equally involved in illegal mining.
“It’s sad. The government said it was fighting galamsey and they arrested, prosecuted, and jailed Ghanaians who were engaged in that activity but left the Chinese woman… when we come, we shall grant all those arrested and jailed some amnesty,” said Mr. Mahama during his tour in the Western Region.
In a panel discussion on Good Morning Ghana on Friday (October 9), which was monitored by GhanaWeb, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Director sort to conclude that Mahama’s actions amounted to politicians taking advantage of the fight against illegal mining to win political favour as a research finding in 2017 stated.
“I have showed you a video of the NDC canvassing people that vote for us when we come. We will allow you to galamsey. And I am telling you an academic position that says that, that is a real weakness and politicians and galamseyers are exploiting that.
“And I am going to tell you that there is a political party in the 2020 Election that exploited this position, this finding as a way of campaigning to say that if you vote for us we will allow you to galamsey.
“… and indeed the outcome of the 2020 Election tells you that indeed, the NDC’s strategy to exploit galamsey (worked). The findings here support the outcome that the NDC got in the 2020 Election. That is just the point I was making,” he said.
But, the host of Good Morning Ghana, did not agree with the NPP communicator’s conclusion because the findings of the research were gathered from data gathered in elections held in 2016, 2012, and other subsequent elections.
“You refer to this report which was out doored in June 2017, which refers to how political parties, especially when they are in opposition exploit the galameysers for political benefit. And you used that to demonstrate what you believe the NDC did in the 2020 Elections.
“ … now I am asking you whether this June 2017 report was not speaking to what had happened in previous elections, be it 2016, 2012, 2008 and, therefore, not a vindication of what political parties do when they are in opposition do and not necessarily what the NDC did in 2020 because of this 2017 report.”
A 30-year-old truck driver who was arrested with a Bruni-Mud 84 foreign pistol has been granted a GHC50,000.00 bail by an Accra Circuit Court for possessing the gun without authority.
The Court presided over by Ms. Adelaide Abui Keddy, ordered that two persons stand as sureties for him.
Patrick Laweh Odonkor pleaded guilty with an explanation to possession of a firearm and ammunition without authority but his plea was changed to not guilty after his explanation.
The accused person explained that the gun was not for him and that he was sending it to its owner in Kumasi when he was arrested.
Odonkor was asked to come back to the Court on October 24, 2022, whilst the prosecution was told to file disclosures within 14 days.
Police Chief Inspector Maxwell Ayim giving the facts, said Chief Inspector Alfred Tofa, the complainant was a member of the Highway Patrol Unit of the Ghana Police Headquarters, Accra.
He said on September 16, 2022, at about 0200 hours, the complainant was in charge of a team of men performing duty on the Accra-Anyinam Highway when a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number GS 7793-21 arrived with passengers on board.
The Court heard that the complainant and his team in conducting a search on the occupants of the bus by way of preventing crime, found the accused person holding a black polythene bag containing one Bruni-Mud 84 foreign pistol.
Chief Inspector Ayim said during interrogation, the accused person told the Police that, the pistol was for his friend, one name Ebenezer Kwame Oteng, who allegedly left it in his room and had asked him (the accused) to bring it to him in Kumasi.
The prosecution said the accused led the Police to Kumasi but the said Oteng was not found.
The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Mr Abdulai Abanga has urged professionals in the construction sector to adhere to green building regulations to help fight climate change.
He made this call during the 15th Ghana Green Building Summit in Accra on Wednesday.
“By building green, we reduce the impact our buildings have on contributing to climate change while also building the resilience of our homes and communities,” he added.
Mr Abanga noted that the recently launched Ghana Building Code sets out the requirements and recommendations for energy efficiency standards for residential and non-residential buildings.
The requirements, he indicated, are to mitigate the effect of climate change – population displacement, devastating floods, food insecurities, and water scarcity.
The Deputy Minister announced that the Ministry had concluded the review of the Building Regulations LI 1630 (1996) to ensure the effective operationalization of the Building Code.
He said the revised Building Regulation, which contains portions dedicated to Green Building Regulations, would ensure building designs conform to environmental sustainability and create the needed ecosystem for human health and comfort.
He reiterated the government’s readiness to implement measures to ensure the country’s building architecture meets green building standards.
A ‘green’ building is a building that, in its design, construction or operation, reduces or eliminates negative impacts, and can create positive impacts, on our climate and natural environment. Green buildings preserve precious natural resources and improve our quality of life.
Ghana has been re-elected as a council member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), to continue contributing its quota to the United Nation’s specialized agency that oversees global telecommunication operations.
The election for the Council membership, which was held on Monday, was the high point of the ongoing ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 in Bucharest, Romania.
Ghana secured 145 votes and ranked 2nd among the 13 countries elected to the Council from Region D in Africa, which is the highest number of votes that Ghana has secured at an ITU Council election.
The ITU Council acts as the Union’s governing body in the interval between Plenipotentiary Conferences, held every four years.
Its role is to consider broad telecommunication policy issues to ensure that the Union’s activities, policies, and strategies fully respond to today’s dynamic, rapidly changing telecommunications environment.
The Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who led Ghana’s electoral campaign pledged that Ghana would continue to make a valuable contribution to the ITU council while making sure that it provides its service to telecommunication in a resourceful, open, and futuristic way.
She explained that the government has already done a lot through initiatives such as the innovative Rural Telephony Project and Sectoral Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTS) to secure cyberspace amongst others.
In a related development, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, the Acting Director of Engineering at the National Communications Authority (NCA) was elected to ITU’s Radio Regulations Board (RRB) for the 2023-2026 term.
In total, forty-eight ITU Member States were elected to the Council ITU Radio Regulations Board (RRB).
He said the protection of cyberinfrastructure must not be compromised, adding that cyberspace security is crucial in a time when information technology is widely used for development and many types of crimes.
Dr. Prempeh said this at a consultative meeting on the establishment of a Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) for the energy sector under the auspices of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in Accra on Wednesday.
According to Dr. Prempeh, the consultation meeting was planned in advance of the Electricity Company of Ghana’s most recent cybersecurity issues, which had an impact on the overall architecture of electricity vending machines.
He stated that the ECG challenge should serve as a wake-up call for all agencies, urging them to increase their efforts in cyber defense and work effectively with the Cyber Security Authority for efficient surveillance.
He emphasized the financial difficulties the country would face if the energy sector’s Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) was not protected.
“As sector Minister, I recognize the need for effective cybersecurity control in the energy sector. This will help us quickly detect and prevent potential cyber incidents and minimize their impacts, even when they occur,” he said.
Dr. Prempeh added that, in the context of the global energy sector, Ghana’s energy sector infrastructure is not impervious to cyber-attacks, necessitating deliberate efforts to combat such crimes because the crippling and destruction of the infrastructure would have a catastrophic effect on our country’s economy.
He urged the agencies to work in tandem with the Cyber Security Authority to prevent future security breaches.

Six people have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident which occurred at Aprede mountain in the Okere District of Eastern Region today, Friday, October 7, 2022.
The incident which occurred around 1:30pm involved a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number GY 1570-13 which was conveying some passengers from Koforidua to Aflao to attend a funeral.
According to another driver, Mr. Tetteh, who was coming from the opposite direction and witnessed the accident, he signaled the Sprinter Benz bus driver who was over-speeding while descending the mountain to reduce his speed due to the nature of the road but he ignored.

Meanwhile, other passengers who were badly injured are currently on admission at the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital in Somanya.
“The driver should be blamed, he was over speeding and I told him to reduce it but he did not even look at me so I am not surprised this unfortunate incident has happened, the car somersaulted severally” he stated.

Veteran highlife musician Obuoba J.A. Adofo has disclosed that he got lots of inspiration from the late Nana Kwame Ampadu to go into music.
He mentioned that as a young adult growing up, he always admired how people celebrated Nana Kwame Ampadu when he visited their hometown.
The thought of experiencing and being showered with such praises encouraged him to work hard on his musical skills at the time.
Speaking with Graphic Showbiz at the final funeral rites of the late Nana Kwame Ampadu in Obo Kwahu today, the renowned performer and entertainer said he was glad to have walked that path which has brought him relevance over the years.

“It is understandable that the dead is mostly honoured than the living of which the good bible doesn’t even dispute such occurrences. That is exactly what has happened after Nana Ampadu’s death. So far, I’m content with how the state has honoured him including airlifting him to Obo Kwahu for the funeral service. I believe we should honour our heroes and give them state funerals just as we have done for Nana. But I think Nana Ampadu would have been much pleased if he had received such honour when he was still alive. But all the same, I’m happy with the massive show of love and support after his death till now,” he said.
As eulogies kept pouring in for Nana Ampadu during the final funeral rites, many touted his huge contribution of mentoring young musicians to walk a similar path.

Red and black colours dominated the premises. Many others were in customised cloth made for the late musician.
The Police Band treated mourners to some inspiring tunes.
Tributes were read by the widow, children, family, Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Obra Drama Group , among others.
President eulogises him
In a glowing tribute, President Akufo-Addo said: ‘’Talk of the commencement and growth of Highlife music and one of the people whose name would be on the lips of every Ghanaian would be Nana Kwame Ampadu.
‘’Indeed, the outpouring of grief by many Ghanaians following the news of his death, is an appreciation of the impact his music had on successive generations of Ghanaians. He was one of Ghana’s music icons and undoubtedly, a legendary Highlife artiste whose music transcended our national borders.”
The President said Nana Ampadu believed in his (President’s) vision for the transformation of the country and assisted him tremendously on the campaign trail in the run-up to the victory of the New Patriotic Party(Party (NPP)) in the 2016 elections.
For that, President Akufo-Addo said, he and the NPP would remain eternally grateful to the departed musician.
‘’His was a life well-lived, and he will be sorely missed by all who had the opportunity and privilege of knowing and meeting him,’’ he concluded.
MUSIGA praises
In their tribute, MUSIGA praised Nana Ampadu for his immense contribution to the growth of the union over the years, especially his role in the establishment of the Ageing Musicians Trust Fund.
Wreaths were laid by the Government and People of Ghana, the widow, children, family, church, MUSIGA and traditional authorities.
Profile
Born on March 31, 1945, Nana Ampadu composed over 800 songs.
He formed the African Brothers Band in 1963 with Eddie Donkor as one of the founding members. Other members of the band were Kwasi Boahene, Yaw Owusu, Kwame Anim, Yaw Asante and Nana Nyarko.
His hit song, ‘Ebi te yie’ literally meaning some are well seated, attacked the inequality in society
The song, however, was seen as politically motivated and angered some people within the political circles.
As a result, the National Liberation Council banned the song, and Ampadu had to explain to the military rulers the meaning of the song.
However, after the end of military rule, the song made a return to the airwaves.
In 1973, he won a nationwide musical competition and was named ‘Nwontofohene’, meaning the King of music.
Speaking in a one on one interview with Angel Fm’s Ohemaa Woyeje monitored by Blogger Attractive Mustapha, on his new EP titled 4Play, the interviewer asked a few questions about his label mate Kuami Eugene.
The “touch it” hitmaker answered a few and also rubbished Kuami Eugene’s statement about the fact that winning artiste of the year does not make one an overall champion.
Kidi’s reply to that statement was that it is Kuami Eugene’s opinion and everyone has their own perspective on issues.
“But whatever it is, since majority have decided that you are artiste of the year then no need digesting it“ he disagreed.
Ohemaa Woyeje attempted to find out from Kidi if Kuami Eugene is still with Lynx Entertainment. The musician responded that he has heard some rumours but he has no idea about Kuami Eugene’s contract at Lynx and whether he has left or not.
When Ohemaa Woyeje pushed further, Kidi cautioned that he does not want to be answering questions on Kuami Eugene when he is being interviewed.
“We are all different people so I don’t want the media to be asking me questions about him”, Kidi retorted.
The founder and CEO of Image Bureau, George Quaye, has disclosed that his recent play titled “Run For Your Wife’ cost him a little over GH₵200,000 to produce.
Speaking to Joy Prime‘s Ibrahim Ben Bako, he stated that he was able to raise funds for the project with support from other people.
“If I should value every single investment made so far, give and take, I can say we’ve spent almost GHC200k and that is so because I have been fortunate to have a lot of people support me. If I were to pay for all the media we’ve had, it probably would have been more,” George Quaye said.
He added that “I’ve had a solid family like The Multimedia Group behind us and others who have also helped so we’ve been lucky probably it would have cost us a bit more.”
The Image Bureau CEO added that staging the play once again would depend on how soon he can raise funds and put together a cast.
“To do this without sponsorship, it’s going to cost Image Bureau and April Communications pretty big. You can see the cast is pretty big, the publicity, the billboards, that online and everything that has been done is so expensive,” he noted.
George Quaye said that “we try to give Ghana the very best so I honestly do not know how soon I can do it again but we pray corporate Ghana buys into the idea and give us some money to do it again.”
‘Run for Your Wife’ is the first theatrical performance by the collaborative effort of Image Bureau and April Communications.
The play, which run four times on Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2, at the National Theatre with two viewings each day, got patrons who turned up in their numbers to watch, leave the auditorium excited. The question of when it will be shown again was on everyone’s lips.
The 6th edition of Ghana Music Awards UK is expected to come off on Saturday, October 29.

The running theme throughout was struggle and the basic instinct to survive in a harsh world. However, in a rather uncommon twist, Blacko gives us an in-depth glimpse into his love life, which really isn’t as rosy as you’d expect of a budding superstar.
In three tracks, one following the other, Blacko surgically analyses his first relationship; he explores issues of vulnerability and insecurity with his first love, sex, break-up and the death of a loved one.
To begin this journey through Blacko’s thorny love life, we start with Toxic Love City – Track 10.
Will you only be here for the higher days?
When the sweet times are over are you gonna stay?
Had to ask you early girl I know I’m late
He goes straight to the point, no dilly-dallying. It isn’t uncommon for one to ask oneself these questions when they start a new relationship, especially when it’s their first and they feel like their life is being upended by this barrage of new unfamiliar emotions. Clearly, at the point of asking these questions, he is long crippled in love and fears the worst.
In the next lines he voices his fears and his dependence on whatever assurances she can possibly give that she feels exactly the same way he feels about her, just for mental health reasons.
Comparing his doubts to death and in a rather manipulative way, he asks her to give him, at least, fake assurances to bring him back to life. This to me is classic gaslighting to get the girl to over-prove her love for you while you still deny she loves you; probably, a defense mechanism to make the lover look like the needy and clingy one when in reality you are.
But if you tell me something then I’ll be okay
It’s nice to have you but I can’t continue with these thoughts in my head
You can bring me back to life with just a word I need those fake assurances, e dey keep me very sane
As I had earlier stated, there’s struggle and the need for survival sprinkled throughout the album, and this song was also not spared. He talks about being an early bird, catching the worm.
I be up till the sunset and before the sunrise I’m already out hеre
I don’t spend too much time with thе bed
No one told that time was bread
I figured it myself
In the next lines, he shows a commitment to being a provider for his lover; food, shelter, and sex (what did you think he meant when he said “Watch your back and give you that D D when you want it”?) He makes it clear he wants nothing from her just her assurance, her commitment to him, and the way she complements him.
And I’m trynna make life easy for us
Watch your back and give you that D D when you want it
I’m not here to let you please me oh nah
Say a word it might complete me o
It might complete me oh
In the second verse, Blacko prods his insecurities about his vulnerability with his lover even more. He tells us he has mistakenly made his lover aware that she has him wrapped around her finger like a ring. Not surprising really, Blacko is currently the king of oversharing in Ghana’s entertainment industry and we love that for him and for our ear buds.
But then the thing with oversharers is that they’re very paranoid. You dare not make a joke about something that is remotely similar to a scenario they had shared with you or else they begin to think you’re probably mocking them.
And Blacko proves the point when he says;
I know I fucked up by letting you know the power you have over me
My mind’s been on a rollercoaster since
You started showing me your true colors
I’m not surprised I‘ve been here before
And trust me I don’t like how I heal
Then he goes on gaslighting and guilt tripping his lover into staying with him, lol, no be small micro aggressions. Because why is he making it look like he was forced into his situation with her? And why does he make it feel as if he has the most to lose by staying in the relationship?
So I go stay here yes I will stay here till whenever
I’ll stay and pay for the cost of my decisions
I will stay and get me roasted for my decisions
And if you’re not riding with me
I’ll be riding with me when it’s all said and done 2x
From the above, it’s quiet clear who exactly was living in whose toxic city. It surely wasn’t Blacko. Even if it was, it was one he built and plastered with his own insecurities and a pinch of narcissism.
I live deep down in your toxic love city
But I love it here cause I don’t know where to go even though you hurt me 2x
In the next installment of his trilogy of love, Blacko seemingly attempts to break up with his lover, but in classic narcissistic style. He says; Don’t forget me – Track 11
The lyrics of Don’t forget me can easily be mistaken for a death premonition. You know, like those musicians who predicted their own deaths in their music, example, Tupac Shakur. Because, why is Blacko talking about “Even when they get to take my life”? Who is going to take his life? Is he receiving death threats? Or he’s just being dramatic?
For the purpose of this article I choose that he’s being dramatic like he was in Toxic Love City. If you want to break up with a girl, break up with her in peace. Why does she need to be keeping sweet memories of you even long after? And why are you telling her you will come back?
And the interesting part about the song is that, he never actually breaks up with her, he’s planning to but he doesn’t yet do it. You know, like a Japanese death penalty, it will come like rapture. So he says;
Let’s make some memories girl
I don’t know when a man is gonna see you again
I don’t know when I’m leaving but it’s not too far from today
Let me be a favori before I leave so you don’t forget me
Come hold my hand look in my eyes and say to me something
The following verse, as if he’s now settled on really breaking up with her, suggests whatever is happening is merely temporal and that he’ll be back for more good times. He then throws in the eerie death premonition-like line and goes his merry way.
It’s time to say goodbye
But you know this is not the end
I’ll see you someday
You will be in my arms
Even when they get to take my life
Heaven is not far away
I’ll see you someday
We’ll have a good time
Then the final verse, as if to placate his lover, he decides she should rather do the leaving.
Watching me go
Might not be easy for you
But I need you to go
You and I know!
I’m not from this side
Ebi life carry me come here o
And I need to go back
I no fit stay here for long
There is a somewhat deep sense of sadness in Don’t forget me. It’s like an appetizer to the main sad course, Oh Paradise – Track 3, where Blacko recounts the death of his lover, broken promises and let’s his grief flow.
Oh Paradise is a song about his first love, Clementina Konadu (Tina) who had died following an outbreak of H1N1 infections in Kumasi Academy in 2017. She was the last of four who had died that year.
In an interview in 2021, the musician had described the experience as crazy.
“It’s crazy, that was the first time I cried about someone dying. I didn’t want to cry but the tears just flowed,” he said.
Blacko in Oh Paradise channels the average Ghanaian auntie’s audacity to reprimand the dead for dying (as If the dead intentionally wanted to die, lol). His very first line is a reprimand to Tina for dying suddenly;
What you do me you no try
You told me baby we outside
Afei de3n nti na wob3y3 me saa
Sore na ka biibi kyer3 me wae
The following lines describe the confusion and the somewhat oblivion the students of Kumasi Academy and their parents/guardians had been in concerning the disease outbreak. At the time, if you’d recall, there wasn’t much explanation about what was leading to the mass infections and at first there was no real sense of urgency to get to the root cause of what was happening. It was only three days after Tina’s death that it was confirmed by the Health Minister that the outbreak was H1N1.
Students were being rushed to hospitals, most returned, but a few didn’t. It thus comes as no surprise that Blacko says he had stayed up all night awaiting her text which never came.
3nn3 nyinaa me I dey online
Waiting for your text so i no fit high
Nka bor ma me mpo s3 goodbye
Ade3 nya nkyee y3 wama may3 style
Still channeling audacious Ghanaian auntie energy, he forgives her and wishes her well on her journey.
But I forgive you
Na kor aa woo kor yi
Nyame mfa wo kra nsie yie
You know say I got you
And stop crying gyae su yi
Sleep well my lover
I will be fine my lover
And my love for you’ll be forever
In the following verse he sort of justifies why Tina’s untimely death feels like he has been wronged. His hard won love stolen from him so suddenly.
Mabr3 mu abr3 mu akor nya me de
Wagya me hor kor s3 keteke
Ade3 no awura me akor me d33d3 mu
Nti me paa na Tina ay3 me seyie 2x
He then asks Tina to intercede on his behalf, to aid him from above as he charters the tempestuous seas of life.
You for tell me how it dey
For paradisé s3 wuduru aa kae s3 mewo fie
Bisa blessings for your man na meebr3 eh
From paradisé s3 wuduru aa kae s3 mewo fie 2x
But he doesn’t end there. His grief draws out memories, memories of broken promises, youthful exuberance and young love. He’s reminded of what he’s lost and would never regain.
Nti ayeforo dondo dondo
Dondo dondo
Dondo dondo yi amma so 2x
At an early age o
Na y3 susua paa
My first love my lover
Wagya mehor kor koraa ah ah
At an early age o
Na y3 susua paa
My first love my lover
Tina agya mehor kor oh
In conclusion, these three songs are a rollercoaster ride of emotions that paint a clear depiction of Black Sherif’s not-so-smooth, not-so-sweet love life. It’s really understandable why he’s a certified sad boy.
The MTN Cup holders dropped into the playoff round of the same competition last season but got kicked out by Algerian side JS Saoura, will set sights on progressing into the money zone this time around.
David Ocloo who has been named as the new assistant coach will lead the team into this game until a substantive coach is announced.
Samuel Boadu took to his Facebook page to post:
“Wishing you the phobia family and the team the best of luck as you begin the Africa campaign. I know the guys has put in the hours and has put in the effort , so now it’s their time to shine. All the best to you and the team,”
Ghana international Kamaldeen Sulemana could join English Premier Leaguegiants Liverpool in the winter transfer window, Footballghana.com can report.
Sulemana has been impressive since joining French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes in July 2021 despite injury setbacks.
According to El Nacional, the Reds are ready to splash 35 million euros to convince Rennes to sign the enterprising winger in the upcoming transfer window.
The 20-year-old current contract will expire in the summer 2026 but a January move is possible due to Liverpool’s huge interest.
Sulemana has featured 10 times this season, scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists in the process.
He is currently injured and will not be in action this weekend when Rennes host Nantes.
The playing body have come under scrutiny following September’s international friendly games against Brazil and Nicaragua.
The Stars were brushed aside by a dominant Brazil by 3-0 at the Stade Oceane in Le Havre, France before recording a narrow win over the Central American side in Lorca, Spain four days later.
Despite the mixed results, Lippert has asked to back the Black Stars technical team ahead of the Mundial scheduled to kick off on November 20.
“Be patient because we integrated eight new players. They had to find each other. It was a friendly game without preparations. So, be patient. Trust the coaches,” Lippert remarked.
The Black Stars have been paired with Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay at the World Cup in Group H in what potentially could be a very difficult start to the tournament.
Ghana will be making her fourth appearance at the global tournament after participating in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 editions.
Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association [GFA], Bernard Lippert believes the Black Starshave a good chance of progressing from the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.
Ghana after securing a spot in the Mundial have been housed in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
With the quality of the playing body being questioned after the September friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua, Lippert is of the view the Black Stars can make it to the next round of the competition.
“I think we have a good chance to overcome the group stage. And then everything is possible,” he told the media.
“We really can go until the quarter-final. It’s realistic for me.,” he added.
Ghana will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974 in Doha.
Four days later, the Black Stars return to action with a clash with South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.
Ghana will wrap up their group stage adventure with their much-anticipated encounter with Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.
The Black Stars having missed out in the last edition hosted in Russia in 2018 will be hoping to improve their performance in Qatar after exiting the group phase during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Ajumako Eshiem D/A Basic School in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region, has appealed for a computer lab for effective teaching and learning of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
The lab will help to offer hands-on training and hone the digital skills of the pupils to prepare them for the future in the spirit of the national and global digital agenda.
Unlike their counterparts in other parts of the country, the school with a pupil population of about 520 learn the practical subject abstractly and are compelled to imagine majority of things taught.
For many of them, the closest they have been to a computer is meters away from the laptop of the teachers who stand before them to demonstrate certain activities.
Mr Isaac Kweku Esuon, the chairperson of the school’s Parents and Teachers’ Association (PTA), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) lamented the dire effects of the situation on academic performance of pupils in the Area.
“The children have never had hands-on experience and due to that, performance in ICT is low. We are in the era of technology, but we are helplessly lagging,” he stated.
“As a country, we are now going digital and without the computers, our pupils will be left out. And so, we are appealing to corporate society, individuals, and all organisations to come and help establish a computer lab for our children,” he added.
The PTA chairperson noted that the school had been able to acquire about three computers with the support of the PTA but were yet to be used because there was no room to set up an ICT lab.
Mr Esuon, also appealed for a school library to inculcate the habit of reading in the children to help improve academic outcomes.
“ Ajumako Eshiem D/A needs a standard library to raise a reading, informed and responsible youth,” he added.
He also made a plea to government to expedite the distribution of textbooks for the new curriculum, emphasizing that the lack of textbooks was encumbering smooth teaching and learning.
“The Government has distributed some, but for basic seven, there are no textbooks at all. The government has already distributed science for basic one to three and English for basic four to six. Aside that, no other subject has been distributed.
“We are appealing that the rest will come soon to improve the performance of the children,” he said.
During vacations, some community members ravaged classrooms, break the doors, steal, and destroy the limited textbooks, Mr Esuon disclosed.
He, therefore, appealed for lights and security to ward off miscreants and protect the school’s property.
“The JHS classes are using marker boards donated by an organisation in the town called Adoye Kuw. But Kindergarten and basics one to six still use chalk boards which does not augur well for teaching and learning.
“Our fervent request is for stakeholders to help us install marker boards in these classes,” he added.
Mr William Kpormatsi, a former Parliamentary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akatsi South, has presented over 1,562 Mathematical sets to candidates of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The sets were distributed during the second ordinary meeting of the third session of the first assembly to the various Assembly members within the Municipality for onward distribution to the schools preparing for this year’s BECE.
Presenting the items, at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly Hall, Mr Kpormatsi, also a businessman, said the gesture was made upon request from Mr Raphael Ahiable, the Presiding Member for the Assembly.
The donation, according to Mr Kpormatsi, was one of the many he had made over the years even before he got into politics.
He said his ‘William Kpormatsi Foundation’ a scheme targeting brilliant but needy students in society had also been providing educational sponsorship for the needy.
He said that this year’s donation was timely “since our children will commence writing their examinations from the 17th of this month.”
Mr Kpormatsi called on parents to ensure they offered the needed assistance to their wards for a successful exercise.
“We need to also allow our children to venture more into technical education to provide self-sufficiency in future,” he said.
Mr Kofitsey Martin Nyahe, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, expressed appreciation to Mr Kpormatsi for his continuous benevolent acts.
He appealed to members of the assembly to release the items to the required beneficiaries.
Some assembly members the GNA interacted with commended Mr Kpormatsi for contributing towards ensuring a high standard of education in the area.
Professor Deborah Olufunmilaya Makinde of the Department of Mathematics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, has expressed the need for governments, to make learning and teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), attractive by providing critical funding for infrastructure.
Professor Makinde made the call in an address she delivered at a workshop for Females in STEM on the topic “Bridging the Gender in STEM” at Winneba.
The workshop on the theme: “Evidence Based Approach to Bringing the Gender Gap in STEM,” was organised by STEM Research Working Group of University of Education and supported by the Committee for Women in Mathematics- International and the Mathematical Union.
Its focus was to create a strong mentorship, linkage, networking model to support girls in mathematics, create a forum to rethink challenges prompting gender gap in scientific and academic communities and to obtain baseline data to enable them conduct joint research across West Africa on innovative ways to ensure gender parity in STEM.
According to her, gender gap was the difference between women and men as reflected in political, intellectual, cultural, economic attainment or attitudes as well as gap in their level of participation, access, right, remuneration and benefits.
Equity she explained, was about all genders having equal rights and opportunities irrespective of sex, gender, race, difference, and choice.
Prof. Makinde said, the positive effect of regular and constant fully funded workshops; training and conferences for teachers of STEM on research; methods of teaching and the attitude towards teaching was important.
She therefore recommended that governments and non-governmental organizations rose to this duty by initiating reasonable financial incentives or scholarship for high score in STEM examinations.
There should also be immediate employment for STEM graduates to arouse the interest of many students towards the learning and studying of STEM.
Looking into the great achievement of some women in Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, she said there was great and prominent future for female gender as they contributed to technological and economic balance for themselves and their nations.
She therefore stressed the need for strong committed spirit and attitude, honest conversation about stereotype threats and the creation of an inclusive environment to expose students to a range of perspectives and teaching materials as well as to foster growth mindset in the classroom to help address key factors perpetuating gender STEM Gaps.
Dr. Gloria Armah of the Department of Mathematics of UEW, in a presentation on the topic: “Challenges faced by females in pursuing mathematics related courses, stated that for nations to develop its citizens scientifically and technologically, the entire population, including girls and women must actively be involved.
According to her, the diversity in an organization, including gender diversity was known to be associated with improved productivity, creativity and organizational sales and profits, saying this highlighted the need to increase women’s representation in mathematics and as such with STEM fields.
“There are challenges to deal with and as such let us not give up as females in the STEM fields but be confident in ourselves and be motivated by the few other females already in the field and those aspiring to be there.
“We cannot afford to fail this and the unborn generation, with regard it is about time we rise, forge on and together we will do great things,” she added.
Dr. Peter Akayuure, Senior lecturer, and Ms. Dorcas Attuabea Addo, Assista Lecturer, both STEM research working group and of the UEW Mathematics Department, in a joint presentation informed the gathering that the group was formed in 2020 to promote indigenous and contextualize teaching and learning of science and mathematics and STEM education through action research professional development workshops and instructional material development.
It is also focused on promoting STEM in Ghana through research, advocacy, innovative teacher training and global networking mentorship programmes.
A 31-year-old farmer, who assaulted a mobile money Vendor and snatched his handbag containing money has been sentenced to12 months’ imprisonment in hard labour by the Enchi District Magistrate court.
Bernard Forson pleaded guilty to assault and stealing and the court convicted him on his own plea.
The Prosecutor, Police Detective Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, told the court, presided over by Mr Eric Baah Boateng, that the complainant and the convict lived at Adjoum in the Aowin Municipality.
He said on September 10, 2022, at about 1723 hours, Forson called the complainant on the phone and invited him to his house to transfer money to someone.
Inspector Agyare said when the complainant arrived, the convict directed him to send a cash amount of GHS3,000.00 to one Faustina Mamudu through the number 0555306931.
Prosecution said the complainant refused to carry out the transaction and instead left to attend to another customer because he knew the convict did not have that kind of money.
Inspector Agyare said the same day the convict called the complainant while at his backyard and gave him GHS80.00 to transfer it to the same person.
The complainant again failed to carry out that transaction because he felt Forson had called some fraudsters and therefore attempted to leave, but he attacked him and, in the process, bit his cheek and snatched his handbag containing money.
The complainant shouted for help and the convict sensing danger took to his heels but was arrested by the neighborhood watch dog committee at Adjoum and handed over to the police in Enchi.
A police medical form was issued to the complainant to seek medical attention, the prosecutor added.
He said the convict was subsequently re-arrested and was charged with the offence after investigations.
For many, Paga, the capital of the Kassena-Nankana West District of theUpper East Region is known as a tourist destination in Ghana because it is blessed with friendly Crocodiles with ancestral connection.
But, the history of the people Paga, Ghana and Africa cannot be told in total without the Pikworo Slave Camp at Nania community, about three kilomtres West of Paga.
Pikworo, in the Kassem dialect means a place of rocks and Nania means a place of cattle. The names depicted the abundance of rocks in a very thick forest in the area around the 1700s.
The Pikworo Slave Camp was founded in 1704 as a transit centre, where slaves were kept in shackles, auctioned and later resold in the Salaga Slave Market after trekking about 150kilometres to the South.
They were then moved onto the Coast for shipment to French, English and Dutch slave traders.
History
History has it that Pikworo was a thick forest with rocks until one day in the 16th century, a man named Baggaw, came from nowhere and asked the natives of the community for a place to settle.
The community members, after several trials to ascertain the origin of the man who kept on changing his identity and lying to them, gave him the name, “Daggaw” which in Kassem simply means, “bushman”, to depict that the man came from the bush.
The natives also accepted him for who he was because they thought that the man was running away from danger due to the volatile nature at the time with slave trading at the peak in Burkina Faso and Mali.
In that era lands were given out for free, so the natives gave Daggaw a piece of land to settle and farm and treated him like a brother and friend but never knew he had other intentions.
After settling well into the community, Daggaw, who could speak multiple languages developed a plan by visiting the houses of the community, convincing the households that he had a link at the Coast with the Whites that he could link their young energetic sons and daughters to travel and work with the Whites to enable earn well and come back to take good care of their families.
He used items like mirrors, hard drinks, gun powder, salt and things that were not common in the community at the time just to convince them and out of ignorance, they bought into his words and handed over their energetic sons and daughters to him.
Holding place
These people were camped at Pikworo, which eventually became a holding place for slaves. There was no shelter and they were chained and shackled against trees and had their freedom curtailed.
The slaves would trek several kilometres from Nania to the Salaga Slave market in the Savannah Region and proceeded to Asin-Manso and to the Elmina Castle to be transported to Europe via ship.
When the community realised that Daggaw was deceiving them, they rose against him, and perceiving the threat, he decided to invite his two friends, Samori Ture and Babatu from Burkina Faso and Mali respectively who were experts in slave trading in their countries.
They recruited people and armed them with weapons to forcefully capture the people.

The reason for using the place as a camp was that the rocks provided certain basic things for the slave traders such as spring water which was used for drinking and cooking.
The slaves were made to carve bowl-like holes in the rocks to serve as bowls for food to be served for them, grinding stones for the grinding of flour and other items to prepare food were also created by the slaves on the direction of their slave master.
Some rocks in the area generated different sounds when hit with stones and the rocks were used to provide source of entertainment in the evening for the slaves to relieve them of the torture experienced during the day.
Punishment rock and cemetery
Some rocks served as meeting places, where the slaves met every morning and evening for briefings from their masters. The highest rock point served as a watch tower against slave raiders.
Slaves who tried to escape or disobeyed their masters were made to sit on a rock called, “the punishment rock” with their hands tied at the back, legs chained against the rock and made to watch the sun from sunrise to sunset. Some became blind in the process.
Those who could not withstand the punishment died and were buried in the cemetery created in the area in local and traditionally made tombs.
According to Mr Eric Kandwe, a Tourist Tour Guard at the Pikworo Slave Camp, slave trade in the area was abolished in 1762 when Samori Ture and Babatu were killed by the Paramount Chief of Sandema in the Builsa Municipality, when they attempted to capture some energetic young people as slaves, but the Daggaw was able to escape and until date, no one knows what happened to him.
Redevelopment
Despite the huge tourism potentials that could create jobs and rake in revenue for the government, not much has been done over the years to develop the area to attract the needed tourists.
Mr Henry Yeledour, the Upper East Regional Director, Ghana Tourism Authority, on the occasion of the World Tourism Day, told the Ghana News Agency that the Pikworo Slave Camp was one of the most attractive tourist sites in the country.
He said it was regrettable that it had been left underdeveloped over the years to take advantage of the proximity of the border to attract tourist.
However, he said, government had constructed a modern administration block and waiting area at the Pikworo Slave Camp and was in the process of constructing washrooms, summer huts and a peripheral wall as part of enhancement processes.
He said roads leading to the Pikworo Slave Camp and other tourist sites in the area such as the Zenga Crocodile pond were deplorable and called on stakeholders to invest strategically to develop domestic tourism.
Cephas Apoyagra, 24, admitted entering Mr Peter Osei, the complainant’s premise to steal 21 bags of cement and was convicted accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Court presided over by Mr Mark Tair-ima Diboro deferred the sentence to October 20, 2022.
Giving the account, Police Chief Inspector Christian Amartey said Mr Osei is constructing his building at Akwaduo New Site, where Apoyagra resided.
He said on October 02, 2022 after complainant and his co-workers had closed from work, they packed the rest of the 21 bags of cement for safe keeping in one of the rooms of the uncompleted building in which they were working.
Chief Inspector Amartey said after complainant and his co-workers left the place the convict, Apoyagra hired a tricycle to the place, where he loaded the 21 bags of cement into the tricycle and sent them to his uncle’s residence.
The next day, at about 0700 hours the complainant and his co-workers reported for work and detected that the bags of cement had been stolen.
Prosecution said the Complainant made enquires and was told by a witness in the case that he saw Apoyagra conveying the bags of cement from the uncompleted building.
Complainant then lodged formal complaint with the police, the Court heard.
Chief Inspector Amartey said on October 4, 2022 complainant arrested the suspect from his hide out and handed him over to the police.
He said the convict admitted the crime in his caution statement.
He then led police to retrieve the stolen items.
Chief Inspector Amartey said after investigation he was arraigned.
GOLDENVOICE, THE CONCERT giant behind Coachella, has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the organizers of Afrochella, a Ghanaian music festival specializing in Afrobeats music.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday at a California district court and obtained by Rolling Stone, comes three years after AEG (which owns Goldenvoice) issued a warning to the Afrochella festivalabout infringing on the festival’s trademark.
“We understand that you are using Afrochella as the name of a music and arts festival. We note that your event is part of a larger celebration that is designed to attract those living abroad (including those in the United States) to return home to Africa,” AEG wrote to Afrochella organizers in 2019.
“Regardless of the celebration or event, your use of Afrochella as the name of a music and arts festival is highly likely to create a likelihood of confusion and mistake as to the affiliation, connection, or association of you with AEG and with Coachella. In particular, the public is likely to believe that you are authorized by, or affiliated with, AEG or Coachella. In fact you have even admitted that your event name and your event were inspired by Coachella. Similarly, comments to own your own Facebook page comment that your festival name is merely trading on the goodwill of the Coachella mark.”
Despite that initial warning, and following a pandemic-postponed fest in 2020, Afrochella returned to Accra, Ghana in 2021 and 2022. However, with the festival set to expand to South Africa later this month and organizers hosting offshoot U.S. events, Goldenvoice filed a lawsuit to further protect what they claim is ownership of all things “-chella.”
In addition to the similarly named festivals, Goldenvoice claims in their lawsuit that Afrochella organizerseven attempted to patent both “Coachella” and “Chella” in Ghana, and noted that the “Chella” portion of their Afrochella logo uses a nearly identical font as Coachella does.
“Not simply content to imitate and attempt to trade on the goodwill of Chella and Coachella, Defendants even went so far as to apply in Ghana to register Coachella and Chella as their own trademarks, using the exact same stylization as Plaintiffs’ registered Coachella (stylized) mark,” the lawsuit states.
The organizers of Afrochella have also “expanded their infringing conduct into the United States by promoting, presenting, and/or sponsoring at least seven different music events using the mark Afrochella’ in the Los Angeles area, and have refused to curtail their infringing use of Plaintiff’s registered marks, necessitating the filing of this federal lawsuit,” the lawsuit continued.
Goldenvoice also provided social media evidence of how music fans are confusing the two festivals, including a tweet where someone wrote, “Tbh first time I heard the name Afrochella I thought Coachella was trying to enter the African sphere.” The lawsuit also presents evidence, via a tweet, showing that Afrochella organizer Edward Elohim attended the 2018 Coachella and admitted that the Indio, CA fest inspired Afrochella. “A Coachella themed event wasn’t going to be called the Gye Nyame Fest,” Elohim tweeted.
The lawsuit also noted that the African festival’s website is a North American-based domain, which helps it draw U.S. festivalgoers: “A substantial portion of the revenue generated from the travel tours sold on the website accessible at the afrochella.com domain name are from US-based customers.”
In addition to an immediate restraining order on the Afrochella name, Goldenvoice is also seeking “damages for trademark and service mark infringement and unfair competition,” as well as $100,000 over claims of cybersquatting domain names.
The organizers of Coachella have previously filed legal action against any unrelated festivals that encroached on their brand, including a 2016 lawsuit against the organizers of underground music festival Hoodchella. In 2021, The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians attempted to host a New Year’s event called Coachella Day One 22, which prompted Goldenvoice and AEG to file a restraining order against promoter Live Nation; the tribe itself had sovereign immunity and could not be sued over using the Coachella name.
Reps for Afrochella did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Ghana and Ukraine have signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in trade and the training of diplomatic staff.
Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, signed for Ghana, while Mr Dmytro Kuleba, the visiting Ukrainian Foreign Minister, signed for his country.
Mr Kuleba is in Ghana to deliver a special message from the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Accompanying him is a business delegation, who would hold meetings with their Ghanaian counterparts and key government institutions, including the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.
Prior to signing the MoU, the two ministers held discussions on issues of common interest, aimed at strengthening the bilateral relations between Ghana and Ukraine, and the need for deepening of economic ties in the areas of trade, security and education.
The discussions also focused on Ghana’s active participation in deliberations on peace and security at the ECOWAS and the African Union, including efforts to resolve regional conflicts on the continent.
Madam Ayorkor Botchwey noted that the bilateral relations between the two nations dated back to August 1992, which had been strong on the political front and emphasised the need to strengthen trade and economic ties.
She recalled the visit to Ghana 4th April 2018 by the first ever Ukrainian Trade Mission, led by Mrs Nataliia Mykolska, a former Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Trade, which aimed at enhancing trade and economic relations.
She reiterated the need for a stronger collaboration in oil and gas, petrochemicals, and security.
Madam Botchwey underscored the role of state institutions in Ghana like Investment Promotion Centre, the Free Zones Authority, the Export Promotion Authority, and the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in promoting trade and investment.
She expressed the readiness of those institutions to collaborate with their Ukrainian counterparts to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) through the conducive business environment in Ghana.
She called for an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, which was impacting negatively on the economies of many countries across the globe, including Ghana.
Mr Kuleba, on his part, commended Ghana for supporting the Ukrainian people during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the two countries were completely aligned on all major issues of international importance.
He said the statement: “Every bullet and every bomb fired at Ukraine is felt in Africa,” made by President Akufo-Addo at the UN General Assembly, was the clearest and the most eloquent statement, which reflected the global repercussions of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“We have to stop this war, we will by winning it, because we defend the right cause, the principle of sovereignty, the principle of territorial integrity of the nation”.
Mr Kuleba said Ukraine would soon be opening a full diplomatic mission in Accra.
Ghana needs education system that will not only help graduates to acquire knowledge but will also help them with skills and abilities that can be applied to address the developmental challenges of industry and society.
Professor Mark Appiah, President of CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST), who stated this, said higher education should be able to provide graduates with skills to be active and effective participants in the world of work.
He was speaking at a virtual matriculation ceremony for 64 students who have enrolled to undertake various graduate programmes at the college.
They were made up of 53 males and 11 females and are undertaking master’s programme in climate change and integrated natural resources management, plant breeding and biotechnology, soil health and environmental resources management, food science and technology, aquaculture, as well as industrial animal nutrition and feed production, at the various campuses of the college.
Prof. Appiah said programmes and educational strategy of CCST had been designed to allow students to acquire practical quantitative skills and get a good understanding of scientific reasoning.
The CCST was therefore well positioned to provide students with the practical knowledge, skills and capabilities needed to contribute to the development of industry and society.
The practical entrepreneurial training programme offered by the college, according to him, empowered students with an entrepreneurial mindset and business skills leading to superior job prospects.
Prof. Appiah urged the students to take their training seriously to prepare themselves for gainful employment after school.
Mr Dangana Mahama, a Manager at the Babile Research Station, has indicated that the geographical location of the Lawra Municipality and farming practices makes it most vulnerable to climate change and environmental degradation.
He said it impacted on average temperature and precipitation and had a baseline impact on the productive capacity of agriculture, low yield expectations and risk regimes faced by farmers in the area.
He said additionally, the municipality faced recurrent climate-related natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and recurrent bushfires, which were natural and human-inflicted disasters that damaged agriculture and its production in ways that severely affected the farming activities and national economy.
Mr Mahama was speaking at a forum organised by the Kobine Festival Planning Committee to educate farmers on the challenges and effects of Climate change on food crop production at Lawra.
The forum was on the theme: “Sustaining our agricultural productivity in post-COVID-19 challenges and opportunities” and with a sub-theme: “Crop cultivation in the era of climate change”.
Mr Mahama said the integration of the sound technological solution with local practices was increasingly identified as a more necessary pathway, choices of management practices, enterprise types, and genetic varieties of crops.
He said the adaptations of any of the management practices were linked to soil properties, location, and climatic conditions, farmers’ response to climate change effects, as well as the use of adaption strategies, which were influenced by socio-economic characteristics, with knowledge of the farmers being the most influential.
Mr Mahama said a major contributor to mitigating climate change must be that farmers must have a fair knowledge of changing the timing of planting and the using of drought-resistant varieties, as well as practising soil and water conservation techniques such as water harvesting, soil erosion control measures, and bounding.
He called on agricultural extension officers to equip farmers with the necessary knowledge on fertilizer use, irrigation, and diversification to non-farm activities adaptation strategies, which could be practised at the farm level in response to climate change
He said the predictions of weather patterns in collaboration with meteorological agencies and the checking of recurrent and climate-related natural disasters such as floods, drought, and recurrent bushfires must be strictly adhered to.
Mr Jacob Dery, the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive appealed to the youth in the area to generate interest and actively participate in farming to produce more to sustain food security.
He said the government had not relented in its efforts to provide small-scale dams to aid farmers to undertake all-year-round food crops production and urged farmers to embrace it to enhance their livelihoods.
He urged agricultural extension officers to educate farmers on issues of climate change, especially changes in the weather and rainfall patterns, as well as discourage farmers from bush burning.
Mr Kasem Sulemana, the 2002 National Best Cotton Farmer, has appealed to the government to consider operationalising the Ghana Cotton Companyand the abandoned Ginnery Factory at Tumu in the Upper West Region for employment generation.
He said the Sissala area was noted for larger production of cotton but the lack of commitment by successive governments to the cotton sector affected the level of production and the livelihood of the farmers in the area.
He said both the cotton company and the ginnery factory, if operationalised, had the potential of creating jobs to generate foreign exchange to the country through export.
Mr Sulemana made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Jeffissi in the Sissala West District to mark the International Cotton Day, which is celebrated annually on October 7.
He said several farm inputs and machinery had been left to rot in the factory and appealed to government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, to support by auctioning abandoned farm equipment at affordable rates to farmers in the area.
“As farmers of Cotton, anytime we pass by the Cotton Ginnery and see how several implements have been left to rot, which we could put to better use, it breaks our hearts,” he said.
“The machinery left in the yard can still gin cotton, whilst some of the tractors, with little adjustment, can be used by farmers but we are allowing all of them to deteriorate beyond repair.”
A visit by the GNA to the Tumu Cotton yard showed only the security personnel present with over 20 tractors and vehicles left at the mercy of the weather in the bushy environment.
It also uncovered that not a single acre of the cotton field had been cultivated this year, but a few people told the GNA that production could bounce back with a good price if the government or other stakeholders could support farmers with cotton harvesting machine.
Dr Francis Ndamani, the Sissala East Municipal Director of Agriculture, said as a cash crop, cotton had a better potential to generate income for farmers and called for a well-established value-chain system with a clear policy to bring back cotton production in the Sissala area and other parts of northern Ghana.
Musician Shatta Walesays his request to collaborate with his ex-girlfriend Michy was not because he wanted them to rekindle their romantic relationship.
The dancehall artiste noted that he believes people like to see them together but not as a couple.
“It’s not that I wanted her back… but you know, I think people love our union not necessarily in a relationship form but we get together, so I think people wanted a feel of that,” Shatta Wale said.
This comes a month after Shatta Wale decided to set aside his differences and work again with his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his son.
The ‘My Level’ hitmaker was impressed after Michy was captured demonstrating the Shatta Movement (SM) sign at the 2022 Ashaiman to the World concert.
Shatta Waleshared the picture on his Instagram page, noting that he was happy to see Michy represent the Movement.
“This is how it should be done… We built this “Symbol of hope”. Thank you. Now I can sleep. In fact, let’s do another song. This time I won’t pay you in kind but cash. Kudos to BHIM nation.”
Michelle Diamond, also known as Michy, in her response was seemingly hesitant to accept the offer to collaborate with Shatta Wale again.
Taking to Snapchat, she noted that although Shatta Wale offered to pay her for the collaboration, he may complain later.
Meanwhile, Shatta Wale disclosed that they have been able to develop a cordial relationship where they work together in the interest of their son, Majesty.
The self-acclaimed dancehall king said he is currently single and searching for a partner. He made the latest assertion on Good Evening Ghana on Thursday.

Stonebwoy has a new song that features Kenya’s rap heavyweight, Khaligragh Jones.
On Monday, October 3, the BET award-winning international Reggae/Dancehall artist shared a 15-second clip of what appears to be a new song with an unconfirmed title.
In the video posted across his social media channels, Stonebwoy is captured in a recording studio with Khaligraph Jones vibing to the song.
Stonebwoy arrived in Kenya at the weekend to begin a week-long media tour and music activations across the country.
The tour comes off the back of an epic performance at the 2022 GUBA Awards in Rwanda, which was attended by the CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr, as well as state officials, dignitaries, and other stakeholders.
As part of his activities, the four-time AFRIMA Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year awardee has appeared on some of the country’s most renowned media channels, including Soundcity Radio, TRACE, Boomplay, and NRG Radio, to discuss his brand and promote his new singles “Therapy” and “Gigigba.”

There are many times that you really have to beat your chest for the little or big things you have accomplished over time. With that realization, Ghanaian rapper Phaize outdoors a new song titled ‘I did it’ to showcase how proud he is of the feat he has achieved in life.
“Everybody thought we were going to fail but I did it”, a line from this song summarizes everything this song is all about. Going against all odds and coming out victorious after accomplishing all tasks.
This hip-hop tune is produced by award-winning Kumasi-based producer Tubhani Musik who happens to have the magic wand and pushed the best out of Phaize.
Phaize has been in the news for carrying and walking around with a Ghana-Must-Go bag whiles promoting his previously released single ‘Metu Afri Ghana’, a song that talks about the frustrations of the average Ghanaian youth in Ghana and the quest of seeking greener pastures abroad.
Born Emmanuel Amoah Donkor, Phaize hails from Ayigya Zongo, a suburb in Kumasi where he prides himself to be their star kid.
According to him, Sarkodie leans towards the hip-hop genre and as such, it is inappropriate for him to rock outfits that make him look very formal.
Speaking on the Good Evening Ghana show on October 6, 2022, Shatta Wale questioned why the rapper would want to appear like a politician or even a lawyer.
The dancehall artiste however, singled himself out while stating that he wants to look the part.
The Shatta Movement boss added that he would rather spend his money on more important things like cars, diamond necklaces and not on his appearance.
“I don’t want to speak, act, behave like them. I want to be like me. Now every artiste wants to act like a political, wearing Kaftan and suits all the time. Artiste? wearing kaftan? Davido is buying diamonds why don’t you buy some? He is buying expensive cars like Ferrari, Bugatti and the rest. Why don’t you also buy some? That’s what I am also focused on. As for Sarkodie, he could have been a good lawyer instead of a rapper. This is because of the way he dresses. The suit and kaftan is just too much,” he stated.

Modelling coach and CEO of DSG Modelling Agency, Dionne Cut Garvin, has said that in spite of the fact that models in Ghana are not compensated fairly, they can work with worldwide brands with the ideal administration.
Speaking with Doreen Abanema Abayaa on Vogue, the educator referenced that he has seen four models work beyond Ghana this year alone which is to say anything is possible.
“I would say the modelling industry so far is growing. I won’t say we’ve gotten there yet, it’s growing and if you are with the right management, you are going hit the right track.
“I would say it hasn’t been easy for others. This year, for instance, I’ve seen about 3 or 4 Ghanaian models on the international scenes doing one of the big shows out there. For growth, they’ve grown in terms of how far we’ve come and I believe there’s more growth for us, there’s more space for people in the industry to grow,” he said.
He also advised models to focus and be professional in whatever they do when caving a path in their professional development.
“All we need to do is to focus and be professional with whatever we’re dealing with, do you understand? That’s the most important thing, the pay isn’t good but with Modelling in Ghana, I believe we’ll grow with the right policies and people in place.
“That’s what I believe in. So far it has been good for those who follow the right process, that’s how I will conclude it right now. It’s been good for those who follow the right process and are out there and making Ghana proud, and I’m hoping many Ghanaians will also shine in the international scenes. That’s very important to me,” he added.
