Achimota School popularly nicknamed as Motown was the first mixed – gender school to be established in Ghana.
The school is famous for producing 4 Ghanaian Presidents and a Zimbabwean President in the name of Robert Mugabe.
The school is located at Achimota in the Accra Metropolis of Ghana.
The school has won the prestigious National Science and Maths Quiz twice, in 1998 and 2004.

1. Kwame Nkrumah – Former President
He is widely known globally as the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana. He is also known as the Father of Pan-Africanism.
He obtained his teacher’s certificate from Achimota School in 1930.

2. Edward Akufo-Addo – Former President
He was a lawyer and a member of the ‘Big Six’. He became the first Chief Justice and later President of Ghana from 1970 – 72.
He enrolled at Achimota in 1929. He was the father of Ghana’s current president, Nana Addo Akufo-Addo.

3. Jerry John Rawlings – Former President
He is a former military leader and politician who became Ghana’s Head of State from 1981 to 2001.
He completed his secondary education at Achimota School in 1967.

4. John Evans Atta Mills – Former President
He was a politician and legal scholar who served as President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.
He obtained his O and A levels certificates in 1961 and 1963 respectively from Achimota School.

5. William Ofori Atta – Former Minister of Foreign Affairs
He is one of the founding fathers of Ghana and a member of ‘The Big Six’.

6. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings – Founder of NDP
She is the wife of ex president, JJ Rawlings. She met her husband at Achimota School when they were both students.

7. Joyce Rosalind Aryee – Former Minister for Information
She is a former politician and a minister of the Gospel. She served as Minister for Local Government from 1987 – 88, Minister for Education from 1985 – 87 and Minister for Information from 1982 – 85.

8. Samia Nkrumah – First Female Chair of CPP
Samia Nkrumah was the Chairperson of CPP from 2011 – 2015. She was also elected MP for Jomoro Constituency from 2009 – 2013.
She is the daughter of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.

9. Alan John Kyeremanten – Minister of Trade and Industry
He is Ghana’s current Minister of Trade and Industry. He attended the famous Achimota School for his 6th form education.
He is tipped by many as a potential presidential material for Ghana.

He is a prominent politician, engineer and banker who is currently the Senior Minister of Ghana under Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
