Ghana will be a better place with Bawumia as president – Former Interior Minister

Former Minister for Interior during the Kufuor administration, Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu, has lauded the election of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.

He expressed his confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to foster economic development and growth in the country.

The former Yendi lawmaker, Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu, characterized Dr. Bawumia‘s election as a pivotal choice that will initiate substantial progress in Ghana’s global economic standing.

    He explained

“It [Bawumia’s election] is a choice of destiny, and in the epoch of every country’s history, there are periods which, if you recognize and take advantage of them, then you are up for a significant effort in your country’s history. We are in a world economy where certain ideas, when applied, bring about major changes in your economy, and China has done that and is bearing results. In Ghana, Bawumia has been advocating a certain idea, which is the digital economy, and he has applied it in Zimbabwe, where it has worked. He keeps saying digitalization is the way to go. If you look at the Port and Harbor Authority, GRA, and other areas, it is working and bearing fruit. If you were to see the number of technocrats who came to witness his election, you would understand that he is a significant asset,” the former Yendi legislator told Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM.

He continued, “The direction he is going, if he is given the opportunity to lead this country, I have no doubt in my mind that we will witness wonderful progress in our economy. The quality of his ideas will move this country forward, and I have no doubt in my mind. If he goes on to win the 2024 elections, we will see significant improvements in our economic fortunes”.

Dr. Bawumia secured the NPP flagbearer position with 61.47% of the votes during the weekend’s election.

2024 Polls: Bawumia can get support from Akan areas – Alhassan Yakubu

Former Interior Minister, Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu, has refuted claims suggesting that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, might encounter challenges in securing votes in traditional Akan regions.

Dr. Bawumia, hailing from the Northern Region, has raised questions about his ability to garner support in the southern part of the country.

During an interview with Citi News, the former Yendi legislator argued that Dr. Bawumia’s performance in regions like Ashanti demonstrates his capability to attract votes and lead the party to victory in the 2024 elections.

Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu explained, “If you look at the overall voting pattern in the recent election that led to his selection a few days ago, you will see that it extends across the country. If you carefully analyze the situation, even though Ashanti is a major stronghold of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia performed exceptionally well in that region.”

He continued, “So this should reassure anyone that there should be no concerns about the fact that Dr. Bawumia will receive a significant number of votes from the regions considered typically Akan, and that voters from those areas might oppose a non-Akan candidate. We have no doubt that he will amass a substantial number of votes in Akan areas and complement them with votes from other regions. We are confident in his success.”

  • Renewed feud between Sege residents, Electrochem claims one life

A shooting incident in Sege, in the Greater Accra Region, has resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries.

The incident is believed to stem from a dispute between Electrochem Ghana Limited and residents of Ada.

President Akufo-Addo inaugurated an ultramodern salt mining and processing plant at Ada Songor, owned by Electrochem Ghana Limited, on August 30. However, the development had faced opposition and persistent protests from local residents.

Isaac Ofei, the Breakfast Show host of Okoli FM, a local radio station, expressed concern about the situation. He explained that residents had been instructed to vacate the Electrochem concession, but the directive was not followed, leading to a confrontation between individuals contracted by the company.

According to Ofei, about 25 people were allegedly injured during the attack, and the situation escalated when land guards from Electrochem went to Toflokpo.

The local chief and District Chief Executive were also involved, with reports of severe beatings.

Nene Mayilo Dadebom II, Chief of Toflokpo, stated that five people had been injured so far. He emphasized that the residents were not against development but were determined to protect their source of livelihood.

Electrochem Ghana has confirmed deploying a task force to protect its concession but denied allegations that its task force shot at residents. Nene Siada, Operations Manager at Electrochem Ghana, explained that they were trying to safeguard their equipment and personnel when a crowd from the town began throwing stones. He stated that no firearms were used by their security personnel.

The Member of Parliament for Sege, Christian Corleytey Otuteye, expressed his concern over the situation and called for dialogue to prevent further escalation.

He recognized the importance of development but emphasized the need for the community to benefit from such projects and stressed the urgency of addressing the issue through dialogue.

NPP Primaries: Bawumia, Ken Agyapong should thank Alan for exiting – Mussa Dankwah

The Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, has expressed that Alan Kyerematen’s withdrawal from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary had a positive impact on both Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.

In the primary, Dr. Bawumia garnered 118,210 votes, representing 61.47%, while Mr. Agyapong received 71,996 votes, accounting for 37.41%. Dr. Bawumia secured the majority of votes in 14 out of the 16 regions across the country, while Mr. Agyapong won in the Central and Volta regions.

During an interview on Citi TV’s Point of View on Monday, Mr. Dankwah remarked, “There was an Alan effect everywhere. If you look at the success of Bawumia and even Kennedy, they all benefited from Alan’s exit from the race because the polls show that about a third of Alan’s supporters voted for Bawumia and the other two-thirds voted for Kennedy. So they both benefited from Alan’s exit.”

The ruling NPP has refuted the notion that they were pressured to select Dr. Bawumia as the party’s first non-Akan flagbearer for the 2024 election.

According to the NPP, the perception of the party being Akan-dominated did not play a role in Dr. Bawumia’s election.

National Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, explained that Dr. Bawumia’s personal attributes and his ability to garner support played a significant role in his election.

Additionally, his long-standing dedication to the party, including serving as a running mate for nearly 12 years before becoming Vice President, were key factors in his selection as the NPP’s candidate for the 2024 election.

No one can ever match my ex-husband – Priscilla Presley

An American businesswoman and actress, Priscilla Presley recently discussed her decision not to remarry after her six-year marriage to Elvis Presley ended during a Q&A event at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas.

The 78-year-old actress appeared to confirm the rumor that she vowed never to remarry as long as her ex-husband was alive, stating that she didn’t believe he could handle it, even after his passing in 1977.

“I just don’t think that he could handle that,” she said of the late rock music icon, to whom she was married from 1967 to 1973.

“To be honest with you, I never wanted to marry after him. I never had any desire,” she said. “No one could ever match him.”

Priscilla has maintained this promise over the past four decades, explaining that she never desired to marry again because no one could compare to Elvis.

She also revealed why she and Elvis chose not to have more children after their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, was born in 1968. Elvis felt his busy schedule and guilt over not being present during Lisa’s younger years were significant reasons for their decision.

In a separate conversation with Piers Morgan, Priscilla spoke about the lasting impact of Elvis’s sudden death at age 42. She vividly recalled receiving the devastating news from Elvis’s road manager, Joe Esposito, and her profound fear of having to break the news to their 9-year-old daughter.

Priscilla also shared what drew her to Elvis, including his charisma and sharp sense of humor. She recalled the spontaneity and generosity of the “Jailhouse Rock” singer, such as the time he bought a woman a new car when he saw her looking at automobiles at a dealership in Memphis.

“He would walk into the room and it was like, ‘Whoa,’ ” she explained of his captivating presence. “I mean, he didn’t realize what he had as far as his appearance or what he felt or his charisma, but there was a few times when he came around and he said, ‘Damn, I’m good looking,’ kiddingly, when he would be in his bathroom and he would be getting ready to go somewhere, but he had a great sense of humor.”

Elvis and Priscilla’s love story is portrayed in the new biopic “Priscilla,” directed by Sofia Coppola, which premiered in theaters. Priscilla praised Coppola for her honest portrayal of her life with Elvis and the challenges they faced during his ups and downs.

The film stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi and provides an intimate look into the private aspects of their life together.

  • Bawumia winning 2024 elections will erase NPP-Akan tag – Ghanaian

Bawumia winning 2024 elections will erase NPP-Akan tag – Ghanaian

A shoe vendor at the Agbogbloshie market in Accra, Wangos Fears, has expressed his belief that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has the potential to reshape the long-standing perception of the party if he secures victory in the 2024 presidential elections.

For a significant period, the NPP has been associated with a predominantly Akan identity.

Nevertheless, the party has consistently maintained that it is characterized by diversity and inclusivity in its leadership.

In an interview with The Independent Ghana, Mr. Fears stated that it is inaccurate to suggest that the NPP exclusively favors leaders from the Akan ethnic group while shunning leaders from other tribes.

He argued that if Bawumia, who is not of Akan descent, emerges victorious in the 2024 elections, it would serve as a powerful counterargument to such claims and could potentially silence the critics of the party.

“NPP supporters should rally behind Bawumia because of the long-held perception that NPP do not like other tribes aside Akan as their leaders which is false. NPP is not against Bawumia. Voting for Bawumia will erase that perception,” he added.

In light of this, he encouraged all NPP delegates to rally behind the Vice President in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the party’s just ended presidential election, earning the opportunity to represent the ruling party in the 2024 general elections.

A total of 203,439 delegates participated in the election, which was conducted on November 4 in various constituencies across all 16 regions of Ghana.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured a total of 118,210 votes, which accounts for 61.43 percent of the total vote. His closest competitor, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, garnered 71,991 votes, equivalent to 37.41 percent.

Other contenders, such as former Agric Minister Dr. Afriyie Akoto and former Mampong MP Frimpong Addai-Nimoh, received 1,459 votes (0.76 percent) and 781 votes (0.41 percent), respectively.

Dr. Bawumia will now face off against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 2024 general election. His victory in the NPP’s presidential election is seen as a significant milestone in his quest for the presidency.

Dr. Bawumia has expressed confidence in his ability to secure a victory over John Mahama in the forthcoming general elections. He believes that he is the only contender capable of delivering a third consecutive electoral defeat to John Mahama.

“They know we will break the 8, and they know that John Mahama cannot take me on in the North, and they know that I will beat him in the North and this is why they don’t want me to be the flagbearer,” Dr Bawumia said on his campaign trail in the Tema West constituency of the Greater Accra Region,” he added.

KATH: Dialysis machines urgently needed at renal unit – Nephrologist

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is grappling with a critical issue of inadequate dialysis machines, which severely hampers the renal unit’s ability to function at full capacity.

The primary cause of this problem has been the persistent breakdown of these machines over the years, leaving the entire facility with just two operational dialysis machines.

As the renal unit undergoes renovation at present, it can only accommodate a limited number of acute kidney cases. Consequently, numerous patients are being redirected to other peripheral medical facilities in the Ashanti region.

This situation is distressing for the attending doctors, as many patients return from these external facilities with unexplained complications that could have been avoided if KATH were operating at its full capacity.

A consultant Nephrologist at the hospital, Dr. Elliot Koranteng Tannor, urgently appealed to the authorities to address the critical issues confronting the renal unit.

“We have actually had challenges that had span so many years, but we are currently working at improving the number of units and as I speak, work is ongoing. So we hope that there will be light at the end of the tunnel, so there are better days ahead. Before, it was a bit tough because all we had were two machines for a hospital with a capacity of 1200 and so what it meant was that you would only be given the opportunity when you were on admission,” he added.

Dr. Tannor also emphasizes another pressing concern. He urged relevant stakeholders to address the issue of a significant exodus of health professionals, particularly specialists in the field, from the country.

“The other significant issue is the workforce, and the few specialists we have trained are leaving. This is a major concern because even if we obtain twenty machines, there will not be a workforce to operate them. Therefore, we must also address the workforce shortage.”

American rapper Meek Mill has openly expressed his deep admiration for President Akufo-Addo, describing him his favorite politician.

Meek Mill affectionately hails President Akufo-Addo as his G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time) in the realm of politics. He attributes this endorsement to a memorable encounter during his visit to Ghana.

In a discussion on Complex alongside Rick Ross, Meek Mill revealed that his meeting with President Akufo-Addo significantly boosted his self-assurance.

He declared, “I had the privilege to meet the President of Ghana, who is now one of my favorite politicians. Meeting a black president personally and being welcomed into the president’s residence instilled a great deal of self-confidence in me, and that’s why I consider him my favorite politician right now.”

The rapper, who graced Ghana with his presence in December 2022 for the AfroNation festival, emphasized the profound impact of his invitation to the Jubilee House for a meeting with the President. This experience left an indelible mark on him.

During his visit to the Jubilee House, it was reported that the rapper was granted permission to shoot a music video on the premises.

This incident generated mixed reactions among Ghanaians, with some criticizing the President for what they saw as a security concession for the American rapper, an opportunity rarely afforded to Ghanaian creatives.

Recently, Meek Mill expressed his intent to embark on another journey to Ghana, showcasing his continued fondness for the country.

2024 elections: Apostle Amoako Attah’s prophecy concerning Bawumia, Alan, and Mahama

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the new leader of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) after securing victory in the party’s primaries, which took place on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

Dr. Bawumia secured over 60 percent of the votes cast by party delegates. He is now set to face off against the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, and the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

Interestingly, the Presiding Apostle and General Overseer of the Charismatic Freedom Chapel International Ministry, Apostle Francis Amoako Attah, had previously foretold this outcome.

In prophecies shared by Parliament Chapel International, the pastor had predicted on multiple occasions that the 2024 presidential race would be a competition among Mahama, Dr. Bawumia, and Alan.

He also indicated that two northern candidates would contend for Ghana’s presidency and hinted at the eventual winner.

  • Obtaining 64% in primaries isn’t the best to win general elections – Franklin Cudjoe

Obtaining 64% in primaries isn’t the best to win general elections – Franklin Cudjoe

The Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has observed that in Ghana’s political history, candidates who have secured less than 64% of the vote in internal party primaries have not gone on to win the general elections.

This observation comes in the aftermath of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s selection as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential candidate for the 2024 general election.

Bawumia garnered 118,210 votes, representing 61.47% of the total votes in the presidential primary held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, with approximately 210,000 delegates participating in the process.

In a Facebook post, Franklin Cudjoe expressed his belief that Bawumia’s performance in the presidential primaries might pose challenges to his chances of winning the 2024 general elections.

Mr Cudjoe pointed out that historical data suggested that no candidate had been successful in the general elections if they received less than 85% of the vote in the internal party primaries, except for a unique case in 2000.

In 2000, Ghana experienced its first peaceful transfer of power through the ballot, marking a significant departure from the norm. Cudjoe further emphasized that candidates who secured less than 64% of the vote in internal primaries had not been successful in winning the general elections.

He noted that Bawumia’s projected victory of 61.5% in the recent primaries was slightly lower than the 68% victory he achieved during the Super-Delegate pre-primaries, which indicated a potential difference in enthusiasm between grassroots support and elite backing.

Below is the full statement by Franklin Cudjoe

The Calculus of Ghana’s 2024 Elections

Yesterday, based on the routine political risk & political economy analysis done at IMANI, I wrote a short essay on the likely permutations of Ghana’s ruling party primaries, which came off today. I pointed out that the favourite to win the elections, the Veep, will be denied a coronation, against the wishes of the party elites and gatekeepers because he has lost some of his shine with the grassroots. Provisional results of the primaries are in, and with them an updated sense of how the 2024 elections are likely to pan out if nothing much changes dramatically.

    1. No candidate in Ghana’s history has gone on to win the general elections if s/he obtained less than 85% of the vote in internal primaries, except in 2000, which was a very special election (the country had never before seen a switch of power through the ballot).
    2. No candidate has gone on to win the general elections if s/he had obtained less than 64% of the vote in the internal primaries.
    3. The Veep’s projected 61.5% victory in today’s primaries was lower than the 68% victory he won during the Super-Delegate pre-primaries. This is consistent with the theory that the grassroots are less excited by him than are the elites.
    4. The Veep’s results are despite one of his main rivals dropping out of the race. It is very likely that his tally would have dropped to the low fifties if this rival had stayed because this rival’s followers do not have a high cross-over with the followers of the runner-up in the just-ended primaries, an eccentric businessman & MP.
    5. The biggest risk to manage in the aftermath of the elections for the ruling NPP is the runner-up in the primaries seeking to undermine the Veep’s candidacy in the general elections in any way. The rival who dropped out is already gearing up to run as an independent in 2024.

He needs to win just 2% of the vote to ensure an automatic win for the Opposition. But this is a high bar. The runner-up, on the other hand, would easily win 10% plus of the national vote in the unlikely event that he goes independent due to his “Ross Perot” level of disruptive influence. The ruling party will move Heaven & Earth to prevent this.

    1. Whilst the Veep’s performance in the primaries and the government’s falling out of favour due to the economic crisis works strongly in favour of the Opposition party, should none of the scenarios in point 5 occur, the ruling NPP still has a path to a narrow presidential victory (while losing their slim Parliamentary technical majority). This is due to a “Northern” and “Muslim” dynamic that the Veep is introducing to unsettle the electoral equilibrium in Ghana. If the Opposition fails to respond with their own “Akan heartland” dynamic, they risk a narrow defeat in the presidential polls. For further explanation, the essay is below.
  • Here are the potential running mates for Bawumia

Here are the potential running mates for Bawumia

Just 48 hours after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer was elected, the competition for the 2024 running mate has begun.

Following the November 4, 2023 NPP primaries, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 118,210 votes, representing 61.47%, surpassing his main rival, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a Member of Parliament for Assin Central, who received 71,996 votes, representing 37.41%.

The race for the running mate position has emerged, with Chief of Staff Frema Opare reportedly vying for the coveted role.

Before the primaries, Kennedy Agyapong accused Bawumia of using the “running mate promise” to secure widespread support by assuring various individuals that he would give them the slot.

So far, more than 11 names have emerged, with most of them originating from the Ashanti Region.

Apostle Professor Kwadwo Nimfour Opoku Onyinah, a prominent Ghanaian theologian and televangelist, is reportedly under strong consideration.

Mr Onyinah is seen as instrumental in Dr. Bawumia’s popularity among the Christian clergy and could complement Bawumia within the Christian community.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, was a popular choice for running mate before the primaries. He has support from Manhyia Palace and party grassroots but has faced criticism for his outspoken nature.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who has quietly expressed his interest in the role, is seen as a potential candidate, although some suggest that, at 41 years old he should wait for his turn.

Joe Osei-Owusu, also known as Joe Wise, the Member of Parliament for Bekwai, has announced he won’t seek re-election, and there are speculations about his potential candidacy.

Other names that may be considered include Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Adutwum, John Kumah, and more.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has reportedly informed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that he is not interested in the running mate position.

Tidal Wave: Nobody has the power to walk me off stage – Stonebwoy to Sarkodie’s team

At the just ended 2023 Tidal Rave Concert at La Palm Royal Beach, a surprising interruption of Stonebwoy’s performance by Sarkodie’s manager, AngelTown, led to a heated exchange between the two.

Unexpectedly, AngelTown appeared on stage, resulting in chaos and disruption of Stonebwoy’s performance.

He climbed onto the DJ’s turntable and forcefully stopped the performance, much to Stonebwoy’s surprise.

Despite efforts to allow Stonebwoy to continue his performance, AngelTown, later joined by DJ Mensah, stood their ground.

In his final message to the fans, Stonebwoy took a dig at AngelTown, asserting that no one can force him off the stage.

“Thank you very much. I needed to say thank you before I leave. Nobody can force me off stage…,” the dancehall musician stated after his microphone was eventually turned off.

The altercation appears to have been sparked by Stonebwoy exceeding his allocated performance time, causing delays for other artists scheduled to perform, including Sarkodie, R2Bees, and King Promise.

Sarkodie eventually took the stage about 20 minutes after the security team restored order on stage.

Your remarks against Samira Bawumia were derogatory, apologise to her – NMC tells Power FM

The National Media Commission (NMC) has directed Power FM to issue a formal and unambiguous apology to the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, for broadcasting offensive remarks against her and the Fulani community in Ghana.

Power FM is accused of airing a “perverted and debased broadcast” on November 1 targeting the Second Lady, an action that the National Media Commission views as conflicting with the promotion of national unity.

In an official statement released on November 6, the NMC strongly condemned the behavior of the show’s host, asserting that the host had actively encouraged the commentator to make further disparaging comments about the Second Lady.

The NMC, in its statement, has directed Power FM to extend an apology to the Second Lady and provide evidence of the apology to the Commission by November 11.

    Below is the full statement.

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, you allowed your station, Power FM, to be used as the medium for gender-based insult on H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia in a perverted and debased broadcast that also sought to denigrate the entire Fulani Community in Ghana and incite ethnic tension. Such behaviour has no place in our search for national cohesion, peace and development.

Your presenter’s phoney protestation was unprofessional and deceitfully calculated to egg the commentator on. Instead of being a moderator, your presenter became a cheerleader for obscenity.

We ask you to apologise to H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia and the Fulani Community. We additionally ask that you apologise to the Ghanaian public whose sensibilities you breached by that broadcast.

We expect you to undertake the above and present evidence of same to the Commission before November 11, 2023 after which date you may hear further from the Commission.

“You have a lot of work to do if you want to lead Ghana” – Rev Owusu Bempah to Bawumia

The founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah, has broken silence following Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s victory as the NPP flagbearer.

The NPP primaries concluded recently, with Bawumia securing 61.47% of the votes, surpassing his main rival, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who received 37.41% of the votes.

On Sunday, November 5, 2023, Rev. Owusu Bempah delivered a sermon in his church and discussed the outcome of the NPP primaries. He mentioned that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has not yet been accepted in the spiritual realm.

“Yesterday NPP delegates decided on the vice president. They have chosen him, but Ghana’s spirit has not confirmed him yet. The spiritual realm has not confirmed,” he stated.

He added, “Some things have been confirmed, but others are not. So, he still has work to do. If he wants to lead Ghana, he has a lot of work to do, both physically and spiritually. The spirits at the four corners of Ghana have yet to decide. They decide before humans vote to manifest it.”

Rev. Owusu Bempah also revealed that the next president of Ghana will visit his pulpit to give testimony.

“It is not only about the spiritual aspect; a physical person is also involved. The one who will ascend to the throne will come here to testify,” he announced.

It is foolish to criticise Asamoah Gyan over his divorce – Prophet Kumchacha

The news of Asamoah Gyan’s marriage annulment with his ex-wife, Gifty Oware, stirred up a buzz on social media. The ex-Black Stars player faced significant criticism from certain netizens for his decision.

Prophet Nicholas Osei, popularly known as Kumchacha, the founder and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, has come to Asamoah Gyan’s defense, asserting that Gyan made the right choice by annulling his marriage.

He pointed out that Gyan’s explanation, where he mentioned threats from his wife’s husband regarding the children’s paternity, is a valid reason for his decision.

In an interview with Kingdom FM, Prophet Kumchacha expressed his disagreement with those making derogatory remarks about Gyan’s divorce on social media, labeling them as ‘fools’ for their imprudent comments.

He stated, “I have heard about Asamoah Gyan’s marital issues. What has he done wrong to Ghanaians? Some people are criticizing him on social media, and, excuse me, some ‘foolish’ individuals are insulting him. What has he done? What Asamoah Gyan said about the divorce makes a lot of sense.”

Kumchacha continued by explaining the circumstances, saying, “He [Asamoah Gyan] mentioned that before marrying the lady, he was unaware that she was already married and that the previous marriage had not been legally annulled in court. The woman hid this information from him, so he had no knowledge of it. It was at some point that the woman’s husband began making threats, according to what I have heard.”

    Background:

Asamoah Gyan’s lawyer, Edwin Kusi Appiah, revealed that the main reason behind Gyan’s divorce filing was the threats he received from his ex-wife’s husband, who claimed that Gyan was not the biological father of their three children. The accusation that their firstborn was not his child was the breaking point that led to the divorce. Gyan initiated legal proceedings to have their marriage annulled after gathering evidence.

Kusi Appiah stated, “Asamoah Gyan married his wife in 2013 but had been with her since 2003. He got information that prior to marrying her, the lady had married another man. Their marriage had three kids with the firstborn coming in 2005. Asamoah Gyan told me he was threatened by someone that the children, particularly the firstborn were not his and that they belonged to him (the person issuing the threat).

“That is what forced us to go to court and seek permission to conduct DNA on the kids. Thankfully, the DNA test proved that Gyan was the father of the children and he was really happy with it. Gyan was happy because he loved the children. That is the main reason Asamoah Gyan went to court,” he said.

  • Most young men are dying early because they opt for court marriage – Kumchacha

Most young men are dying early because they opt for court marriage – Kumchacha

The founder and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, Prophet Kumchacha, has offered a stern warning to young individuals against holding weddings when they wish to get married.

He believes that many young men who choose to have weddings often experience shorter lifespans, resulting in their wives taking control of their assets.

Prophet Kumchacha emphasized that in contemporary times, women are particularly interested in weddings due to the potential property rights they would gain in the event of a divorce or the husband’s demise.

“I consider wedding or court marriage as foolishness. If you take ten men who have done weddings, seven of them die early. I would never do a wedding, why should I do it? Only four out of six men who do weddings are wise, the rest are fools. I am saying this because women of these days are very wise,” he told show host, Fiifi Pratt in an interview with Kingdom FM.

Prophet Kumchacha went on to explain why he advocates that young men should opt for traditional marriage and avoid weddings to protect their assets in the event of divorce.

“After all, they [women] marry famous men and then insist on the wedding. Then later they would start misbehaving and if you want to divorce, the court would demand that you give half of your property to the woman. I know a lady who married four rich men and divorced them because she wanted their properties.

“Marriage is a choice so I would advise that you do the traditional one and forget the court because even if it collapses, you will still own your property. So for a young man at the age of 25 wanting to do a wedding most of them die early,” Prophet Kumchacha admonished.

Ghanaian Disc Jockey and musician, DJ Azonto, is unapologetically committed to maintaining his distinct stage attire, a choice that often includes female clothing items.

In an exclusive interview with Property FM, DJ Azonto passionately expressed his unwavering wish to continue wearing such attire even beyond his stage performances.

He went as far as stating that when the time comes for him to leave this world, he wants to be laid to rest in feminine garments.

Azonto emphasized his determination, saying, “When I’m dead and gone, they should bury me in this same attire because I’m even fed up with the criticism and the multitude of advice.

He further revealed, ““A friend of mine owns one of the largest boutiques in Accra but at the time I needed dresses to perform on stage he couldn’t help me. No one has even invested 1,000 cedis in my work so everything I have now including my cars and my houses are by the grace of God and my efforts,” he stated.

DJ Azonto’s dedication to his unique style, both on and off the stage, remains steadfast, regardless of societal norms or opinions.

It is “foolish” to inquire about my marital status – Delay slams fan

Prominent media personality and entrepreneur Deloris Frimpong Manso, widely known as Delay, has strongly responded to a fan who inquired about her marital status, deeming the question unnecessary.

In a post on her Instagram page, Delay invited her fans to ask her any questions they wished and assured them of her willingness to provide appropriate responses.

However, an Instagram account under the name “xbora_official” posed the question, “Why are you not married? And moreover, you don’t have a child.”

Delay’s reaction to this question was blunt, describing it as “nonsense” and asserting that she would not address it because it was irrelevant at that moment.

“That’s a very foolish question. I can’t answer it!” Delay replied.

The host of The Delay Show has frequently faced inquiries about her marital status, with many people questioning why she hasn’t married at this stage in her life.

In a previous incident in 2022, Delay confronted a Facebook user who left an offensive comment on one of her posts. This occurred after Delay hinted at being in love.

The Facebook user, identified as Richard Otegah, referred to Delay as a ‘big joke’ in response to her benign Facebook post that read: “It’s just US. YOU and I.”

His comment included: “You think Facebook love is marriage??? You have not been able to stay with a man under the same roof for even a month and you think of marrying!!!! You are a big joke!!!! You think marriage is like running a business????”

Delay, known for her no-nonsense approach to dealing with social media trolls, swiftly responded by sharing the critic’s profile photo with a message that read, “Richard Otega, The god of marriage, I salute.”

I won’t allow an unmarried woman interrogate me about my husband – Ohemaa Woyeje throws shade at Delay

The host of Angel FM’s Mid-morning show, Ohemaa Woyeje, has strongly criticized fellow media personality, Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, for her inquiries about her husband’s life.

According to Ohemaa Woyeje, Delay’s real intention during their interview two years ago was to probe her about rumors of her husband’s infidelity, rather than to promote her as some Ghanaians had perceived.

The Angel FM presenter revealed that she deliberately acknowledged the rumors about her husband’s infidelity to signal to Delay that she was aware of the interviewer’s ulterior motives for the interview.

“She [Delay] invited me for the interview because of that question [rumors about my husband’s infidelity]. When you are married, you should know how to handle marital issues. The person interviewing me is not married and does not discuss her relationship on her show. No marriage is perfect, so I wouldn’t allow an unmarried person to question me about my husband’s life. Have you discussed your boyfriend’s life on your show? My response was to let her know she couldn’t catch me off guard. She didn’t interview me for publicity; she had a different agenda, and I knew it,” she explained in an interview with CTV on the Class Showbiz program, as monitored by GhanaWeb.

Ohemaa Woyeje also mentioned that her relationship with Delay soured when she transitioned from Top Radio to Oman FM, and she couldn’t transfer her listeners due to various reasons, resulting in some tension between them.

“On a normal day, Delay would not call me for an interview because she did not like me after leaving Top Radio. She was unable to transfer the listeners from Top Radio to Oman FM, and there was some strange rivalry. She had never called me before. So, if you observe the interview, she acted as if she didn’t know me, even though we were friends. So, when someone pretends, you also pretend,” she added.

    Background:

In contrast to some campaigns encouraging women to divorce their husbands due to infidelity, Ohemaa Woyeje expressed her commitment to staying with her husband, regardless of his cheating. She argued that infidelity doesn’t drastically alter a man’s appearance.

To reinforce her stance, she stated that she would pick up her husband, take him home, and care for him even if he had an affair with a mentally ill woman.

“If your husband cheats on you, don’t harm the other person. Even if I found my husband with a mentally ill woman, I would pick him up, take him back home, and look after him,” she reiterated.

She originally made these statements during an interview with Delay two years ago, which was monitored by GhanaWeb. This was in response to rumors that she had caused a scene and smashed her husband’s phone on the ground at Adom FM after discovering his infidelity.

“Why would I do that when I’ve made it clear that a husband’s infidelity won’t harm anyone?” she remarked during the interview with Delay.

Ohemaa Woyeje tied the knot with Emmanuel Kusi in 2017 and is blessed with a baby girl.

Takeover Future Global Resources Mine to end mismanagement – Staff to government

Mine workers at Future Global Resources (FGR) in Bogoso Prestea, a mining company located in the Western Region, have issued a two-month ultimatum to the government, urging it to take control of the mines and assign the concession to another investor.

They argue that the mine suffers from a lack of investment, poor safety conditions, and non-payment of workers’ SSNIT contributions, which has resulted from mismanagement by FGR.

In 2020, FGR took over the concession of the mines situated in the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region from Golden Star Resources.

Despite a three-year transition, approximately 500 mine workers and neighboring communities assert that the mine’s performance has fallen short of their expectations.

The mines have experienced at least two major labor disputes, prompting the area’s paramount chiefs to petition the government, citing FGR’s inadequate management of the mine.

FGR’s worker leadership, recently ending a six-day sit-down strike due to non-payment of their statutory contributions and the absence of safety equipment, highlights a lack of investment and mismanagement as the root issues.

Supporting this sentiment, a fuel supplier to FGR reveals that the company owes suppliers for approximately a year. The Gyaasehene of Prestea Himan, Nana Mutty Ankamah, speaking on behalf of six paramount chiefs who have petitioned the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, alleges FGR’s lack of transparency in its operations and failure to provide the communities with the Corporate Social Investments enjoyed by other mines.

Wisdom Cudjoe, the Member of Parliament for Prestea-Huni-Valley, met with the workers after receiving a copy of the petition from the chiefs and workers, and he expressed his intent to write to the Speaker regarding the mines’ indebtedness.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made a commitment to elevate the importance of the blue economy within the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming manifesto for the forthcoming general election.

The blue economy represents an economic framework that prioritizes the sustainable use of marine and freshwater environments to foster economic growth while preserving these ecosystems, yielding resources like energy and food.

Addressing an audience at the University of Cape Coast’s 3rd Conference on Fisheries and Coastal Environment in Accra, Dr. Bawumia disclosed that the government has sanctioned a $150 million loan from the World Bank to combat coastal degradation.

Dr. Bawumia stated, “The government has endorsed a $150 million loan from the World Bank for the West Africa coastal area program, aimed at mitigating the challenges of coastal degradation affecting our coastal regions.”

This financial support will facilitate various initiatives, encompassing the advancement of sustainable fishing and aquaculture practices, the promotion of blue tourism, and other activities related to the blue economy.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with the private sector to boost the blue economy.

The government has introduced several incentives to attract private investment in this sector, including tax incentives and improved access to financing.

The Vice President emphasized that the blue economy holds the potential to create numerous job opportunities and generate substantial revenue for Ghana, amounting to billions of dollars.

He concluded by affirming the government’s dedication to fostering the sustainable and inclusive development of the blue economy.

“The government has approved a loan of $150 million from the World Bank for the West Africa coastal area programme to stem the tide of coastal degradation occurring in our coastal areas.”

From vote-buying to food chase : Insights from NPP Presidential Primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) recently concluded its flagbearer elections, which took place on Saturday, November 4, 2023, and saw a participation of over 200,000 delegates.

The results were announced by the Electoral Commission at the Accra Sports Stadium, in the presence of numerous delegates and candidates.

The contestants for the NPP presidential position included the Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Member of Parliament for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

In the end of the race, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the winner, securing 61.43 percent of the votes with a total of 118,210 votes.

Kennedy Agyapong garnered 37.41 percent of the votes, totaling 71,991 votes.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto received 0.76 percent with 1,459 votes, and Frimpong Addai-Nimoh secured 0.41 percent with 781 votes.

However, the lead-up to the election was not without controversy, as allegations of vote-buying surfaced.

Delegates openly admitted to receiving cash incentives from the campaign teams of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.

In the La Dade Kotokopon constituency, reports emerged that delegates claimed to have received GHC450 from the vice president’s camp in exchange for their support.

A viral video featured a delegate named Sir Collins, who chose to vote for Kennedy Agyapong because he considered the financial offer from Agyapong’s camp to be more substantial than that of the vice president.

Sir Collins expressed his dissatisfaction with the differences in resources and support, as Dr. Bawumia’s camp had offered GHC400 to each delegate.

Another delegate, Samed Nuhu, admitted to receiving money from both Bawumia’s and Kennedy Agyapong’s campaigns but urged fellow delegates not to allow these financial incentives to unduly influence their decision-making.

Nuhu pledged to vote for the candidate he believed would best serve the party’s interests, even though he had voted for Bawumia and expressed disappointment at the amount received in return.

These allegations of vote-buying have raised concerns about the role of money in politics and its potential impact on the integrity of the electoral process.

Help Korle-Bu clear its GHS4M debt – Renal patients to government

The Renal Patients Association of Ghana has called on government to settle the GH¢4 million debt owed by the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to suppliers of dialysis consumables.

This debt has led to the closure of the unit to outpatients, resulting in the unfortunate loss of 19 outpatients from the renal unit since its closure in May 2023.

The association’s spokesperson, Kojo Ahenkorah, emphasized the importance of paying this debt to reopen the renal unit for outpatients. He pleaded with the government, expressing the urgency of the situation and the suffering it has caused.

Ahenkorah also shared his personal experience of being unable to afford dialysis at a private facility due to the closure of the unit at Korle-Bu.

“We cannot fight the government, we are pleading with them,” Ahenkorah said in an interview with Citi News. “I don’t think Ghana cannot raise GH¢¢4 million within a day or tomorrow to pay this money. So we are just pleading with them because what will be the point that today you open and tomorrow you close again? Already people are dying, people are suffering.”

In the meantime, the Renal Dialysis Unit’s outpatient department at the hospital partially reopened on November 6, following its closure to outpatients since May 22, 2023. This reopening came after an increase in dialysis treatment costs per session from GH¢380 to GHS¢765.42 was announced on September 27.

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, directed the management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to immediately reopen the unit last Thursday.

In her view, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s election may not bring about substantial change and might not break the eight-year streak for the party.

She suggested that it’s time for Ghanaians to redirect their attention away from the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to open the door for other leaders to govern the nation.

Ayisha Modi stressed the necessity for the country to progress, as many politicians appear to be self-centered and neglect the welfare of the people.

She expressed her sentiments on Instagram, sharing a post featuring a picture of Dr. Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, with the caption, “The END OF NPP PARTY. The youth needs support, and it shouldn’t be limited to NPP and NDC. We live in a one-sided country where individuals prioritize themselves over the nation. We need progress.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the NPP Primaries and was officially declared as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections.

The announcement of Dr. Bawumia’s victory was made by the Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe.

Official results revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 118,210 votes, constituting 61.47% of the total votes cast.

Kennedy Agyapong, his closest competitor, came in second with 71,996 votes, accounting for 35.52% of the total valid votes.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto received 1,459 votes, while the fourth contender garnered 781 votes.

Party leaders and unsuccessful aspirants made statements, with the overarching theme revolving around the importance of unity and the objective to maintain political power as they head towards the 2024 elections.

The NPP is determined to retain the presidency after an eight-year tenure. Their aim is to set a record as the only political party to serve three consecutive terms in office, with each term spanning four years, hence their slogan, “break the 8.”

ECG launches ‘fix the bill, pay the bill’ campaign to rectify post-paid meter billing issues

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a four-week initiative to address post-paid meter billing issues nationwide.

The operation, named ‘Fix the Bill, Pay the Bill,’ is a response to numerous customer complaints about incorrect billing in recent months.

The External Communications Manager of ECG, Laila Abubakari, explained that the exercise’s objective is to “providing better services to our customers, for them not to steal power from us and to be happy enough to pay us what they owe us, especially for our postpaid customers who are holding on to a lot of our monies

“For the past few months, we have encountered issues related to estimated billing due to a new process we implemented. As a result, our staff will be transformed into meter readers, visiting our customers’ premises, both residential and business, to record meter readings. These readings will be verified, and customers will then be billed based on these accurate readings.

She emphasized that resolving these problems will enable ECG to improve revenue collection, especially given their current resource constraints.

Customers are urged to cooperate with this new project aimed at reading all meters accurately.

This marks the third such operation conducted by the power distributor in the current year.

Previously, between March and June, ECG initiated a revenue mobilization drive to recover GH₵3.1 billion of a total debt of GH₵5.7 billion owed by private and state institutions.

Subsequently, the company launched another revenue recovery effort, targeting domestic customers.

We are ready to have you – NDC tells Kennedy Agyapong

In response to recent developments, the Central Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its readiness to welcome Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong into its ranks should he choose to switch his allegiance to the NDC.

Prof. Kofi Aseidu, the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, has highlighted the events that unfolded after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary, suggesting that the NPP is maintaining its traditional practice of exerting pressure on its members, particularly those from the Central Region.

Prof. Aseidu criticized the NPP government for allegedly using its party resources to back a single candidate over the three others who contested in the election.

He extended an invitation to Kennedy Agyapong, considering him an esteemed son of the Central Region, to contemplate joining the NDC.

Prof. Aseidu expressed his optimism that the NDC would secure victory in the Awutu Senya East Constituency during the 2024 general elections, asserting that the incumbent MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has become disconnected from the constituency’s populace.

Kukurantumi: Farmers accuse Cocobod, MoFa of unlawfully selling lands

Cocoa farmers and small-scale farmers in Kukurantumi, situated in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, have urgently requested the intervention of Cocobod and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) to put a stop to the unauthorized sale of Cocoa plantations to property developers.

The frustrated residents and farmers have accused local traditional leaders of forcibly acquiring large portions of Cocoa farms and other agricultural lands, and they are now sounding an alarm.

They are prepared to take matters into their own hands if the government and relevant authorities do not step in to resolve the situation.

Protests by hundreds of Kukurantumi residents led to a temporary halt in land encroachments by the alleged developers. However, fresh attempts by new developers have reignited tensions as landowners resist any efforts to unlawfully seize their properties.

These underserved farmers have congregated at the Dwumana clan palace to voice their concerns. Opanyin Kojo Owusu Ansah, speaking on behalf of the affected farmers, called on MoFA and Cocobod to intervene and safeguard cocoa production.

Nana Afoakwa Kyerewaa I of the Dwumana Clan expressed worries that this situation is significantly impacting the government’s “Planting for Food and Jobs” policy.

You don’t own Borteyman lands, keep off – Nungua Stool to illegal developers and encroachers

The Nungua Traditional Council has issued a stern warning to illegal developers and encroachers on the Adjiriganor/Borteyman lands.

They are cautioned to respect a Supreme Court ruling that recognizes the Nungua Stool as the rightful owners of the land and must contact the Stool Secretariat to validate their claims. Failure to do so could result in the loss of their properties.

During a press conference held at the palace, King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, who is the Nungua Mantse and Vice-President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, stressed that individuals or groups encroaching on the Borteyman lands must immediately cease their actions or face legal consequences.

He emphasized that a massive exercise, including potential demolitions, will be conducted by the end of the year to rectify the situation. However, he assured genuine landowners in the area that they would receive “fatherly care.”

“As the Paramount Chief of Nungua Traditional Area and the occupant of the Nungua Stool, I am sounding a warning to the unscrupulous encroachers, being individuals or group of individuals on the Borteyman lands to desist from their actions immediately before they face the full rigours of the law, King Odaifio Welentsi III said.

“We are assuring all and sundry that by the end of this year, there is going to be a massive exercise, you can call it demolition if you wish,” he added.

He, however, assured genuine landowners at the area of a “fatherly care” stressing, “you are in safe hands,” he added.

The Nungua Mantse cited a Supreme Court ruling in December 2020 that reaffirmed the Nungua Stool’s ownership of the Adjiriganor/Borteyman land. This decision came after similar judgments by an Accra High Court and the Appeal Court in June 2003 and December 2014, respectively.

He advised the management of Empire Builders Ltd., which was involved in the legal dispute, to continue using the courts for resolution rather than resorting to press conferences and land guards.

The Nungua Stool and Top Kings Enterprise Ltd. were acknowledged as the rightful landowners, and the public was urged to engage exclusively with them for land lease transactions in the specified area.

The press conference was attended by Divisional and Sub-Divisional Chiefs, Queen mothers of the Nungua Traditional Council, and residents of the Trasacco Valley Estates.

One loses life after soldiers’ attack at Garu – MP reveals

One of the casualties from the recent military violence in Garu and Tempane in the Upper East Region has passed away.

Eight of the residents who were arrested and subsequently relocated to Accra have been discharged, while two others are still struggling with their health.

Following an incident on October 29, 2023, where military personnel reportedly unleashed chaos on the Garu community, over 50 people were hospitalized. Allegedly, this military attack was a response to an earlier assault on National Security operatives by a vigilante group in Garu.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Garu, Albert Alalzuulga, provided an update on the situation to Citi News, confirming the fatality and the release of the eight detainees.

He expressed his strong disapproval of the military’s actions, labeling them as unacceptable.

“It is sad to announce to you that one of the military brutality victims in Garu has died. It is a very sad development. The youth and everybody in the area are so saddened. We are so disappointed in the military and their actions. And we are disappointed in the government as well. What happened in Garu is most barbaric; it is most unfortunate. The residents who were arrested earlier were released on Friday. While some are home safely, others had to be taken to medical facilities due to their conditions.”

“We are already calling on the government to compensate the victims, and if possible, we may have to take legal action. I don’t think that the treatment of the people of Garu was fair. I think the government needs to address this. The military is taking Ghanaians for granted. It is our tax that has bought the uniforms they are wearing. It is our tax that has bought the vehicles and guns.”

Furthermore, National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah is scheduled to appear before Parliament on Thursday, November 9 to provide an official briefing on the situation.

Renal unit at Korle-Bu to resume its services today

The renal unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is expected to resume services to patients on November 6, 2023, unless unforeseen issues arise.

Per reports this decision was reached during a meeting held on Friday, November 3, 2023.

The meeting concluded unanimously that the facility should begin admitting outpatients starting today, following several months of closure.

The renal unit ceased outpatient services on May 22, 2023, prompting patients to seek dialysis treatment at alternative locations, often in private hospitals or facilities.

A partial reopening of the unit occurred on September 27, and it was accompanied by a price hike for dialysis sessions, raising concerns. However, this price increase was subsequently revoked due to public outcry, and the unit remained closed to outpatients.

In response to the situation, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, instructed the management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to promptly reopen the renal unit.

He hails from a family with a legacy in education, law, and politics.

His father, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, was not only a teacher but also a lawyer, politician, and a Mamprugu Royal.

His active involvement in politics, especially as a founding member of the Northern Peoples’ Party, had a profound influence on Bawumia’s upbringing and values.

Bawumia’s career path led him to become a Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, where he gained expertise in monetary policy and economic matters.

His significant contributions to the banking sector prepared him for the challenges he would later face in the world of politics.

    Political Ascent and VP Role:

Bawumia’s entry into Ghanaian politics came with his nomination as the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2008, alongside Nana Akufo-Addo as the presidential candidate.

This marked the beginning of his political journey.

He continued as the NPP’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2012 general elections, playing a prominent role as the lead witness for the petitioners in the 2012/2013 Presidential Election Petition, which challenged the election results that declared John Mahama as the winner.

In 2016, Bawumia was again chosen as NPP’s vice-presidential candidate, and this time, the NPP emerged victorious in the presidential elections.

Ghana is well-prepared to harness nuclear technology – NEA

The Director-General of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), Mr. William D. Magwood, IV, has identified Ghana as a Sub-Saharan African nation well-prepared to harness nuclear technology for socioeconomic advancement.

During a media briefing at the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC) Ministerial Conference in Accra, he commended Ghana’s readiness, stating, “The country seems to be ahead of others, in terms of intellectual infrastructure, strong core people with excellent technical training and good political commitment.

“Participating ministries understand their policy roles in detail, structures are in place and regulatory agencies understand nuclear safety,” he said at a media briefing on the sidelines of the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC) Ministerial Conference in Accra on Thursday.

He highlighted that participating ministries have a deep understanding of their policy roles, established structures, and regulatory agencies well-versed in nuclear safety.

The IFNEC conference convened high-level officials, nuclear industry representatives, and key stakeholders to discuss regional and international cooperation, as well as policies necessary to advance nuclear energy programs.

Topics of discussion included nuclear financing, regulation, human resource development, supply chain development, mapping, and project development.

Mr. Magwood expressed the NEA’s commitment to support Ghana in its nuclear endeavors and praised the country’s advanced awareness of available technologies suitable for its circumstances.

He noted Ghana’s proactive approach to nuclear technology selection and decision-making, emphasizing the advantage it holds over other countries.

Nuclear technologies have garnered interest from various African nations, signifying a positive trend, especially as Africa is expected to become the most populous continent by 2050.

Professor Samuel Boakye Dampare, Director-General of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, revealed that Ghana had chosen Nsuban in the Western region and Obotan in the Central region as potential sites for its first nuclear power plant. Detailed technical assessments are underway to determine the preferred site.

Selecting the site marks a significant step in the second phase of Ghana’s Nuclear Power Programme, preceding the choice of a vendor/partner for constructing the plant. Four sites were initially considered, and Ghanaian experts conducted further studies to rank Nsuban and Obotan as the top choices.

Prof. Dampare confirmed progress in the selection of vendors and indicated that the government plans to announce the partner country responsible for building the nuclear plant by 2030. He also highlighted the establishment of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority and the ongoing capacity-building efforts to enhance its functions.

Ghana’s pursuit of nuclear energy aligns with its objective of diversifying its energy sources to support industrialization, particularly with the decline of traditional energy sources.

Many sectors of the Ghanaian economy have expressed readiness to participate in the country’s nuclear agenda, emphasizing the importance of adding nuclear power to the energy mix.

This sentiment was reflected in a nationwide social and economic survey conducted by the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER).

NPP can only win 2024 elections with Bawumia – Hamid

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Hamid, has given his endorsement to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the ideal candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, citing Bawumia’s strong potential to secure victory in the 2024 presidential election.

During an interview with Citi News’ Hanson Agyemang after casting his vote, Dr. Hamid emphasized that Bawumia possesses the crucial attributes necessary for a successful candidate, including experience, competence, and charisma.

Hamid stated, “Bawumia is the sole candidate with a practical chance of winning.”

Nevertheless, Dr. Hamid acknowledged the competitiveness of the 2024 election but expressed his unwavering belief that Bawumia will lead the NPP to triumph.

He remarked, “No election has been a straightforward endeavor since 2000, and I doubt it ever will be. However, Bawumia has the highest likelihood of winning.”

On Saturday, November 4, over 200,000 NPP delegates nationwide are participating in the vote to choose a presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

The other contenders in the race include Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.

In a bid to deter party members from resigning in the event of defeat in the primary, all four candidates signed a commitment on October 2, pledging not to resign.

Breaking the 8 will require extensive effort – Gabby

A prominent figure within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has indicated that the party faces a substantial challenge in its quest to secure victory in the 2024 general elections and end the two-term cycle.

Mr Otchere-Darko recently visited the constituency of President Akufo-Addo in Kyibi, where he expressed his contentment with the electoral process and commended the delegates for their resounding support for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

He emphasized that the overwhelming backing and affection shown to the Vice President reflect the high level of trust that people have in the government.

Mr Otchere-Darko who was speaking to the media stated , “When I got here, it was peaceful, and it is the president’s constituency, and they have voted overwhelmingly for the Vice President. They came out to vote massively for the Vice President, and it shows that they have confidence in the government.

“We have a lot of work to do to break the eight-year cycle, but it starts with massively endorsing the candidate so that we don’t encounter problems”.

The election involves a total of 203,439 delegates, with 436 delegates casting their votes at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, to select a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

  • Bawumia will have a tough time winning 2024 elections – Sammy Crabbe

Bawumia will have a tough time winning 2024 elections – Sammy Crabbe

Sammy Crabbe, the former 2nd Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed skepticism about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s chances of winning the 2024 elections if the party doesn’t change its approach.

In an interview on The Big Issue on Citi TV, Sammy Crabbe suggested that Dr. Bawumia faces a challenging situation, especially given the current economic crisis in the country.

He believes that Dr. Bawumia is perceived as being connected to the hardships that Ghanaians are enduring due to his integral role in the ruling government, making it difficult for voters to support his presidential bid.

Sammy Crabbe also emphasized the importance of breaking the eight-year cycle, noting that it’s not an easy task.
He suggested that voters associate Dr. Bawumia with economic challenges, given his role as the Chairman of the Economic Management Team, making it a significant liability for his candidacy.

“Mahama cannot be beaten easily. Breaking the eight is not an easy thing, so many things are going against us. Each candidate brings something to the table. It’s by popular vote. If people identify with a candidate, they will vote for him. From where I sit, there’s a strong perception that this economy is not going well. And as Chairman of the Economic Management Team, people associate him [Bawumia] with the mess that they perceive is going on and that is a huge liability. It is going to be quite difficult if he should win the presidential primary.”

“The party would have to work very hard, in getting people to change perceptions. It is going to be a very difficult thing. I think they are going to judge him because of his dishonesty, that he has not been consistent, he’s not reliable. He said one thing and he has not delivered. I think Dr Bawumia is in a hole if you look at Kennedy and Bawumia,” he said on The Big Issue on Citi TV.

If Dr. Bawumia wins the presidential primary, Sammy Crabbe believes the NPP will need to work diligently to change public perceptions.

He pointed out that Kennedy Agyapong might be better positioned to lead the NPP to victory and break the eight-year cycle, emphasizing Mr Agyapong‘s ability to deliver results.

“Kennedy is in a better position to lead us out of our current situation. Seriously speaking, he can deliver,” he told Selorm Adonoo.

Sammy Crabbe criticized the NPP for often shifting blame onto others rather than taking responsibility for their shortcomings.

He suggested that acknowledging and explaining these issues to the public would be more beneficial.

On November 4, 2023, over 200,000 NPP delegates across the country were expected to participate in the NPP’s presidential primary.

NPP polls: The true test lies in 2024 regardless of the outcome – Asah-Asante

A Political Scientist from the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, emphasized that regardless of the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer elections, the true test lies in the 2024 general elections, where the NPP candidate will face John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He stressed the importance of convincing Ghanaians to choose the NPP candidate over Mr. Mahama in the upcoming elections.

“The real deal is the 2024 general elections. Whoever will win the NPP elections, regardless of the margin, once you win, you have won. The real challenge is in the 2024 elections against John Mahama,” Dr. Asah-Asante commented, reflecting on the provisional results of the NPP’s internal elections.

Dr. Asah-Asante expressed his appreciation for the campaign strategies of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central Lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong, acknowledging their effective performances.

“The two gentlemen have acquitted themselves very well, and the results they are getting, I am not surprised at all,” he conveyed to TV3.

  • No delegate has received money from me – Addai-Nimoh

No delegate has received money from me – Addai-Nimoh

A presidential candidate from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Addai-Nimoh, has emphatically stated that he has never engaged in any vote-buying with delegates.

Instead, he affirmed that his offering to the delegates and the people of Ghana is centered on peace, unity, and prosperity.

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong Constituency, Francis Addai-Nimoh, made these remarks after casting his vote at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.

His comments were a response to media inquiries regarding reports suggesting that delegates in Berekum had been offered GHC1,000 to vote for him.

He refuted these claims, stating, “To vote for me? I’m sure that is untrue. It is false. I have never given any money. Silver and gold have I none, but what I have is to give peace, unity, and prosperity.”

Francis Addai-Nimoh is one of four candidates competing for the leadership of the NPP in the 2024 general elections.

The other three candidates include Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture; and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

A total of 420 delegates are expected to cast their votes at the party’s headquarters in Accra, with approximately 331 having already done so.

Notable figures who have voted include President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Senior Presidential Advisor Yaw Osafo-Maafo, and former National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, among others.

Despite various polls suggesting otherwise, Mr. Addai-Nimoh expressed his confidence in winning and leading the party during the 2024 general elections.

He highlighted the disparity between theoretical surveys and practical outcomes, citing his unexpected participation in the super delegates’ elections as an example of this disconnect.
