They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary just a few weeks ago on September 8, 2023.
The former president once shared that he and Theresa tied the knot a year after they first met.
Their meeting took place at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961.
Interestingly, John Kufuor had just completed his law course while Theresa had recently finished her nursing program in Scotland during that same year.
“We got talking at the dance and became friends who got married in 1962 and gave birth to our first child in 1963, the second in 1964,” he stated.
The former First Lady, Theresa Kufuor, according to sources close to the family, passed away at the age of 87 at her home on Sunday, October 1.
An official announcement of this somber event is anticipated to be made on Monday, October 2.
Mrs. Kufuor served as Ghana’s First Lady from January 7, 2001, to January 6, 2009.
Her tenure commenced when her husband, John Agyekum Kufuor, assumed the presidency, succeeding Jerry John Rawlings.
During her time as First Lady, she established the Mother to Child Community Development Foundation, dedicated to promoting the healthy development of children and preventing the transmission of diseases from mothers to their offspring.

These communities all fall under the Fiapre Stool Lands and hold the esteemed titles of Wrenpemhene and Wrenpemhemaa of the Fiapre Kyem Amponsah Stool.

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr. Freda Prempeh, has appealed to Zoomlion Ghana Limited to contribute waste bins to support the national clean-up initiative, emphasizing that these bins would significantly enhance efforts to combat indiscriminate littering in major cities.
During her inspection of the ongoing National Clean-up Exercise, a collaboration between Municipal and District Assemblies and Zoomlion Ghana Ltd., in parts of Accra, the Minister made this request.
“I am extending a hand to Zoomlion to support this exercise with waste bins to make the exercise more effective,” she said.
Dr. Freda Prempeh highlighted the importance of waste bins in facilitating waste segregation and recycling, aligning with the ministry’s long-term objectives. She also stressed the need for education, especially for children, on waste segregation to instill responsible habits from an early age.
While commending youth involved in plastic waste segregation, she expressed concern about the lack of safety precautions among them, including the absence of masks, gloves, and handwashing facilities.
Dr. Freda Prempeh emphasized that waste segregation at the source, such as households, would prevent such activities by children.
In response to the Minister’s call, Zoomlion’s Public Relations and Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Ernest Morgan Acquah, pledged the company’s commitment to addressing the country’s sanitation challenges, highlighting the importance of waste segregation at the source.
Mr. Acquah emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility among the government, service providers, and citizens, urging everyone to actively participate in the monthly national clean-up exercise.
The nationwide clean-up event coincided with International Clean Up Day and adopted the theme “Cleaning for Safe, Healthy, and Sustainable Ghana.” The Minister emphasized the need for effective collaboration among stakeholders to achieve the government’s vision of a clean Ghana and sustainable WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) service delivery. Plans include media sensitization campaigns and extensive premises inspections by District Assembly staff as part of the clean-up effort.

Veteran hiplife artiste, Mzbel, has emphasized that spirituality is not merely an activity but a way of life.
According to her, seeking spiritual protection through consultations with traditional spiritual practitioners like Mallams, deities, and fetish priests is just as essential as any other means.
Mzbel elaborated on this perspective during an interview with the media, stating, “consulting mallams, deities, and fetish priests for spiritual protection as a musician is also part of it, but spirituality is a lifestyle.
“When you wake up in the morning you have to pour water on the ground and thank the earth and you have to look into the skies and thank the sun.”
She further emphasized that Africans should ideally embrace spirituality as a way of life and connect with nature.
Mzbel explained, “as for spirituality once we are Africans that’s supposed to be our way and we communicate with the sun, moon, the earth and we know what’s in the air that’s blowing.”

Ghanaian musician, Wendy Shay recently claimed that her recent serious accident was not a random incident but rather a deliberate spiritual attack orchestrated by individuals with the aim of blaming her manager, Bullet.
During an interview with the media, Wendy Shay stated,“Those who wanted to kill me, they know themselves, and they’re trying to put it on Bullet. It wasn’t Bullet. It wasn’t a normal attack. What I can say is that they know themselves, but I am not going to mention their names. But they can never kill me.”
However, during a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz, Kwame A Plus disagreed with this assertion. He commended Wendy Shay and her manager, Bullet, for their efforts in creating buzz and keeping the musician in the spotlight following the accident.
A Plus expressed skepticism about the claim that the accident was spiritual and suggested that it might be a publicity stunt.
He stated,”we cannot say it is spiritual. It is all for the hype. First Bullet said he would be flying her to Germany for treatment. Now they are saying that it is spiritual. They know what they are doing. It’s called a stunt and they are doing it well,” he avered.
President Akufo-Addo has articulated the government’s aspiration to establish Ghana as the primary hub for medical excellence within the West African sub-region by the year 2030.
President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in achieving this vision, underlining Ghana’s abundant skilled workforce and ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure nationwide, exemplified by Agenda 111.
These remarks were made during the inauguration of the St Michael’s Specialist Hospital (SMSH) in Lapaz, a suburb of Accra. President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to substantial investments in the healthcare sector and reiterated support for private sector initiatives.
Michael Banahene, Chairman of St Michael’s Specialist Hospital’s Board, lauded the Akufo-Addo administration for its contributions toward realizing the hospital’s vision.
He further highlighted that the St. Michael’s Specialist Hospital would eventually employ around 600 Ghanaian staff at full capacity.
Former President John Agyekum Kufour expressed immense pride in his grand nephew’s accomplishments, particularly considering the substantial time taken to complete the hospital project.
He also commended the hospital’s adoption of high international standards to deliver efficient healthcare services to the people of Ghana and beyond.
A spokesperson for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman, believes that the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has harbored a disdain for the former Trade and Industry Minister for approximately 15 years.
Mr. Buckman also pointed to an incident in 2008 after the primaries, where the NPP announced that Alan had left Ghana when he was actually present in the country.
This, according to him, reaffirmed the party’s longstanding desire to distance itself from Alan.
“One particular issue that came up and really shook my heart was the one that happened in 2008. After Alan Kyerematen conceded defeat to Akufo-Addo, he was in his office. An announcement was made on TV that he had travelled out of Ghana, and it surprised him because he was right in Ghana at the time. The MC for the programme announced that Alan was not in Ghana when he was in Ghana.”
“The announcement during the campaign launch of the party that he was not in Ghana when he was in Ghana meant the party did not want him.”
“The announcement made during the campaign launch of the party, stating that he was not in Ghana when he was in Ghana, indicated that the party did not want him.”
Furthermore, Mr. Buckman alleged that he was unfairly disqualified when he sought to become a Member of Parliament on the party’s ticket, primarily due to his close association with Mr. Kyerematen during the 2007 presidential primaries.
“I was supporting Alan during the 2007 primaries and also vying to become an MP and the party disqualified me and the letter confirming my disqualification said I was disqualified over some reasons that could not be stated and the reason that it could be is my support for Alan during the primaries.”
In a surprising turn of events on Monday, September 25, Mr. Kyerematen announced his resignation from the NPP to establish the Movement for Change, with intentions to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections.
Economist and political analyst, Dr. Theo Acheampong, has cast doubt on the likelihood of former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, reversing his decision to rejoin the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Acheampong contends that if Mr. Kyerematen were to return to the NPP, it could potentially harm his reputation.
He clarified that Mr. Kyerematen’s departure from the party was not due to issues of trust or credibility among potential voters.
During an interview with the media, Dr. Acheampong questioned Mr. Kyerematen’s motivations for remaining with the party and the government when the economy was struggling, only to now break away from the NPP to establish his own political movement.
Dr. Acheampong raised the hypothetical scenario of whether Mr. Kyerematen would have formed a new party if he had secured the NPP’s nomination for leadership.
“If he had won the nomination to lead the NPP, would he have broken away to form a new party,” he quizzes.
He emphasized that there are uncertainties surrounding the timing of Mr. Kyerematen’s decision and whether he genuinely intends to bring about positive change in the country.
“The message is not the issue; it comes down to whether or not he would be able to win the election,” Dr. Acheampong stated.
He expressed doubts about Mr. Kyerematen’s ability to secure victory, given historical trends and his target audience of youth and the middle-class.
Dr. Acheampong’s remarks were in response to comments made by Nana Akomea, the Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), who believes that it would be sensible for the NPP to engage with Mr. Kyerematen and explore the possibility of his return to the party.
Nana Akomea, while appearing on the same show, expressed hope that ongoing discussions with Mr. Kyerematen would convince him that his current course of action would not be beneficial for himself or the NPP, emphasizing that unity is in the party’s best interest.
One of the reasons cited by the former Trade and Industry Minister for his resignation was his suspicion that the party unfairly favored one candidate in the NPP’s Super Delegates Conference.
However, Nana Akomea argued that this justification did not hold water, especially considering the extensive involvement of party members in the nomination process.
Ghanaian musician, Shatta Wale, has introduced his new girlfriend on social media, expressing his joy in finding love once again.
The dancehall artist shared this exciting news on his Instagram page, where he posted numerous pictures of his new partner.
One of his captions stated, “I apologize for keeping this a secret. I’m deeply in love.”
In another photo, the couple shared a tender kiss, and Shatta Wale wished his girlfriend a safe journey back to the United Kingdom.
Photographs captured them walking hand in hand at both the Kotoka International Airport and an airport in the UK. Shatta Wale was set to perform at the Ghana Music Awards UK.
This announcement has elicited a range of reactions from netizens and celebrities on social media. Some offer their best wishes, while others express hope that this relationship will prove to be enduring.
Shatta Wale’s track record of unsuccessful relationships has been a topic of public discussion since his tumultuous split from Michy in 2019.
Over the past three years, he has been linked with two different women, and he has showcased these relationships online, similar to how he did with his former partner, Michy.
However, none of these relationships endured and were marred by heartbreak and public disputes.
A presidential aspirant from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh, has expressed concerns about the Super Delegates Conference within the party, stating that it is causing division among its members.
During an interview with the media, he recommended that the party should eliminate this process. Addai-Nimoh conveyed his dissatisfaction with how the party had managed the recent Super Delegates Conference.
He emphasized that the primary objective of this election is not to determine a winner but rather to narrow down the pool of candidates.
He clarified, “This system is not designed to select a winner. I was one of those advocating for the elimination of this process. It was not intended to choose a winner.”
He further explained, “Its purpose is to identify five individuals who will represent the party in the presidential primaries.” He added, “The process is meant to produce five candidates and not declare a victor.”
In his view, the Super Delegates Conference is a time-consuming procedure that does not aim to select a winner but rather to reduce the number of candidates for the over 208,000 delegates to make a decision regarding the aspirants. He asserted that the results of the Conference are contributing to disunity within the party.
The Global Mercy Ship, the largest civilian hospital ship globally, is collaborating with the government to reduce deaths attributed to a lack of surgical care, especially among vulnerable populations.
Approximately five billion people worldwide lack access to safe and affordable surgical care, leading to at least 17 million deaths annually, with a significant impact on low- and middle-income countries, including Ghana.
Through this partnership between the Government of Ghana and the Global Mercy Ship, many vulnerable individuals will receive free medical and surgical services, including general surgery, reconstructive plastics surgery, ophthalmic surgery, women’s health surgery, maxillofacial surgery, ear-nose-throat surgeries, and pediatric orthopedic surgery.
The ship will remain in Ghana for about ten months, aiming to reduce the surgical backlog and provide surgical services to underserved populations, especially those in remote areas.
Additionally, patients in leprosariums with post-leprosy contractures who meet the surgery criteria will benefit from plastic surgeries.
An advanced team from Global Mercy Ships, led by Vice President-International Michelle Bullington, is already in the country and collaborating with officials from the Ghana Health Service.
During a meeting with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the government expressed its support for this initiative, which also aims to enhance the capacity of medical and surgical specialists in Ghana.
At the end of the program, a 250-bed rehabilitative center will be handed over to the country to accommodate patients who receive surgical and medical services.
The Ghana Health Service has assured its full support for the program, emphasizing its potential to enhance healthcare delivery in the country. Director of Healthcare Promotions Dr. Dacosta Aboagye stated, “This is an important program we are proud to receive. The necessary steps are in place to ensure the country reaps full benefit.”
President Akufo-Addo has reiterated his government’s commitment to completing the “Agenda 111” Hospital Project, which he inaugurated in August 2021.
He provided an update on the progress of the project during the commissioning of the St. Michael’s Specialist Hospital in Abeka Lapaz.
The President highlighted that 86 district hospitals, two regional psychiatric hospitals, and the western regional hospital are currently in progress, with varying levels of completion.
He stated that the average completion rate for the 89 ongoing projects is 52%, with some sites reaching seventy to eighty percent completion.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that these hospitals’ construction is being carried out by Ghanaian contractors, creating direct and indirect job opportunities for Ghanaians.
“There is an average number of 120 workers on each construction site, and, when completed, an average of 549 persons will be employed in a district hospital, 1,343 in a regional hospital, and 947 in each psychiatric hospital this means that 67,635 people will be employed in the Agenda 111 hospitals,” he added.
He mentioned that each construction site employs an average of 120 workers, and upon completion, each district hospital will employ 549 people, regional hospitals will employ 1,343, and psychiatric hospitals will employ 947, resulting in a total of 67,635 jobs created by the Agenda 111 hospitals.
The Agenda 111 initiative aims to establish 101 standard 100-bed district hospitals with accommodation for medical staff, six new regional hospitals, the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, one new regional hospital for the Western Region, and two psychiatric hospitals. The estimated cost of the entire package is $1.765 billion.
“Beyond the building of these new healthcare facilities, my vision is to help make Ghana the Centre of Excellence for Medical Care in West Africa by 2030, leveraging on Ghana’s favourable status in the Region as the most peaceful country in West Africa, a beacon of democracy on the continent, and a land of opportunities,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo also outlined his vision to make Ghana a Center of Excellence for Medical Care in West Africa by 2030.
He highlighted his government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare services, including restoring nursing trainee allowances, recruiting healthcare workers, equipping the Ghana Ambulance Service, enhancing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and utilizing drones for medical supply delivery to remote areas.
The Tarkwa circuit court has awarded a 20-year prison sentence in hard labor to George Fynn, an apprentice welder, for engaging in mining activities beneath a high-tension cable.
Fynn faced charges of conspiracy and illegal mining, and he pleaded guilty to these charges.
Assistant State Attorney for the Western Region, Mr. Kingsley Agyekum, who led the prosecution, presented the case before the court presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu.
Joseph Ntiful, the unit committee chairman at Esuoso in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, served as the complainant in the case.
According to Mr. Agyekum, the accused, along with his accomplices Effah and Christian (who remain at large), had been involved in illegal mining on a portion of land situated beneath an electricity high-tension cable on the outskirts of Esuoso.
The chief of Esuoso had taken measures to fill in all pits created by these illegal miners to safeguard the high-tension cables.
However, on August 30, 2021, at approximately 2:30 am, Fynn and his associates returned to the mining site from which they had been banned.
They proceeded to dig three new pits in the same area for mining purposes. The chief of Esuoso received a tip-off and ordered the arrest of the accused parties.
When a nearby resident approached the scene, the three suspects fled upon seeing him.
Mr Fynn was apprehended after a brief chase and was subsequently handed over to the Tarkwa Police by the chief, at the direction of the complainant, where a formal complaint was lodged against him.
The campaign team of vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted allegations that they made an effort to persuade Kennedy Agyepong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, to become Dr. Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 elections.
Mr. Agyepong informed NPP supporters at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi that the Vice President’s campaign team had offered him a bribe to accept the running mate position, an offer he declined.
In a swift response, the Vice President’s campaign team issued a statement denying any attempt to approach Mr. Agyepong for a running mate offer.
The statement, signed by the Vice President’s spokesperson, Gideon Boako, also rejected allegations that Dr. Bawumia is undermining the NPP through intimidation.
Below is the full statement.
For Immediate Release Saturday, 30th September 2023
Bawumia Campaign Team has not approached Hon. Kennedy Agyapong for Running Mate Position
The Bawumia campaign team has noticed with grave concern news report by Citinewsroom.com and other media outlets in which the Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is alleged to have indicated that some members of the Bawumia Campaign team attempted to bribe him to step down and be made the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
We wish to state in unequivocal terms that the Bawumia Campaign team has not approached Kennedy Agyapong for such a running mate offer, nor have we assigned any member of the team to approach him for the same.
It is also not true as alleged by Kennedy Agyapong that Dr. Bawumia is collapsing the party through intimidation. The unity of our party has been of great concern to candidate Dr. Bawumia. It is in light of such concern that he refrains from responding to unwarranted attacks by others in the contest and has cautioned his supporters against responding to such provocative attacks. His strategy has been to persuade delegates to support his bid. This he does, by laying his vision for the party and country.
As we have always maintained, the contest for flagbearer in the NPP is an internal one, and all actors, particularly the aspirants must be guided by the core values of the NPP, which include but are not limited to truth, decorum, and respect for one another.
Artiste manager, Bullgod has made an appeal to former president, John Dramani Mahama, urging him to prosecute corrupt government officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and put an end to the ongoing trend of misusing taxpayers’ money.
He stressed the need for a leader who would dedicate their tenure to holding those responsible for corruption accountable.
During a discussion on the United Showbiz program, Bullgod expressed his concern about the prevalence of corruption within the current administration and insisted that it should not be ignored.
He called on John Dramani Mahama, addressing him as “His Excellency,” to take action against these individuals when he returns to power.
“We need a leader. One leader has to come and serve for four years to rectify things. Look at how the current government is recklessly spending our money. They spend our money without consequences. I am appealing to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. When he comes to power, he should prosecute these people. We cannot continue like this forever, wasting money without accountability,” he passionately stated.
However, some of the panelists, including Socrates Safo and Evangelist Diana Asamoah, who are known NPP supporters, disagreed with Bullgod’s perspective.
They criticized him for portraying Mahama as the ideal candidate for such a task.
Diana Asamoah asserted, “Mahama won’t return to power,” while Socrates also challenged Bullgod’s statement, referring to past controversies during Mahama’s administration.
“As for Mahama, he won’t come again,” Diana Asamoah said.
“We were all here when the Guinea fowl issue happened. Or have you forgotten? How can you even mention Mahama?’ Socrates also retorted.
In response to the objections, Bullgod remained resolute, emphasizing that regardless of the leader, whether Mahama or someone else, those responsible for corruption should face punishment.
Political activist and media personality Kwame Obeng Asare, known as A Plus, has criticized a letter from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) calling on UTV’s management to reform the United Showbiz program.
A Plus, a regular panelist on the show, characterized the letter as “useless” and questioned its propriety.
During the September 30 edition of the program, A Plus expressed his disdain for the letter, stating, “this letter is revolting because we have received calls from people threatening to collapse UTV United Showbiz.”
He further ripped apart his copy of the letter, condemning it as “stupid.”
“NPP people should stop such things, don’t write such a letter ever again. This letter is a stupid letter.
“Nobody in this country can decide what we do on this show, especially when the president of Ghana is an astute lawyer and someone who believes in the rule of law. Don’t write such things ever again,” he stressed.
A Plus emphasized that about 90% of UTV’s viewers are NPP supporters, and despite the critical views expressed on the show, they continue to praise the network for the platform it provides.
He urged the NPP to refrain from sending such letters in the future, emphasizing that no one in the country has the authority to dictate the content of the show, particularly when the President of Ghana is a lawyer who believes in the rule of law.
The NPP had expressed concerns about the show, alleging that it frequently included negative comments and criticism directed at the government and President Akufo-Addo, as well as ridicule and criticism of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in recent episodes.
Gospel musician, evangelist Diana Asamoah has emphasized the need for attitudinal change among Ghanaians as a prerequisite for progress in everyday life.
While acknowledging the role of political governance in the lives of citizens, she cautioned that leadership alone cannot be solely held accountable when individuals do not exhibit positive attitudes in their daily affairs.
In an interview with the media on September 30, 2023, Evangelist Diana Asamoah stated, “the whole world is in a crisis, a lot of the hardships also rests on our actions. I have always maintained that even if Jesus becomes president and we don’t change our attitudes, we won’t have it right”.
“The Bible talks about blessings for the truthful and that those in haste won’t have it well,” she stressed.
She further stressed the importance of honesty and patience, citing biblical principles of blessings for the truthful and challenges faced by those in haste.
As a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), she cited examples of individuals who have engaged in theft and dishonesty while highlighting the success of others with godly traits and vocational skills.
The state of the economy has been a prominent topic of discussion in recent months, characterized by rising inflation, currency depreciation, a decline in the quality of life, and a high cost of living.
The government has attributed these challenges to the aftermath of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, with the country securing a US$3 billion IMF loan, of which US$600 million has already been credited to the government’s account.
Two individuals, Baba Kasim, 32, and Alu Cudjoe, 62, have been arrested on charges of stealing a 3-kilometer stretch of conductors from the Electricity Company (ECG), valued at approximately GH¢103,000 in Benson, Western Region.
The Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the ECG, Benjamin Quarcoo, expressed how this theft of conductors hinders and escalates the costs of extending ECG services in the Benso community. He cautioned that severe consequences await those involved in such acts.
The Assemblyman for Benso Electoral Area shared with the media how the community members apprehended the suspects, expressing their disappointment with the theft as it further delays already unreliable power supply to the community.
The Western Regional Public Relations Officer urged the public to collaborate with the ECG in identifying and addressing such disruptions to power supply.
Talented artist associated with Black Avenue Muzik, Sefa, has told her critics to mind their business when it comes to matters concerning her body.
Sefa stated that she is not obligated to provide explanations for her choices regarding her body or personal life.
In an interview with the media on Thursday, September 28, 2023, she expressed her indifference towards people’s opinions about her, emphasizing that her primary focus is on creating and sharing quality music.
The E Choke hitmaker pointed out that if individuals choose to scrutinize her personal life and physique more than her music, there is little she can do about it.
“To do music and I make sure I put the music out and when it comes out, it’s good music”.
“If people decide to concentrate on my personal life and my body more than the music, there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m doing my best but I don’t think I owe anybody an explanation, just as they don’t owe me an explanation,” she added.
She reiterated that she doesn’t believe she owes anybody an explanation, just as others do not owe her one.
Sefa revealed that people often approach her with questions about her striking physique, which she attributed to natural curiosity.
However, she stressed that such inquiries are a private matter and compared them to asking someone about their intimate activities to highlight their personal nature.
“How would you feel if I just come up to you and ask you if you had sex the previous night?” she quizzed to make her point.
“It’s like asking me that because it’s my personal business. Sometimes, I feel because I don’t give them something to talk about, I don’t do anything controversial, anytime they have something little they want to run with it. So it’s normal,” she noted.
She acknowledged that because she doesn’t engage in controversial activities or provide much fodder for gossip, people tend to seize upon minor details to talk about, which she considers normal.
She credited her physical charm and appearance to taking excellent care of herself. She emphasized that as she grows, she prioritizes self-care and engages in activities that bring her happiness and boost her self-esteem.
Ghanaian actor, Mawuli Gavor, has opened up about his unexpected journey into the world of acting, shedding light on how he developed a deep passion for it despite initially having a background in accounting.
In an interview with the media, Mr Gavor disclosed that he initially had no intentions of pursuing a career in the film industry.
With a background in finance, he had always envisioned becoming an accountant and an entrepreneur while growing up.
However, Gavor explained, “I sought of fell into acting. It just happened to be something that I was good at and I was blessed enough that my career went in a particular way. So that was never really the plan. The plan was always to be in businesses or just run my own business but acting just came in and by God’s grace it went well.”
After his initial experience in a movie production and subsequent involvement in the film industry, Mawuli Gavor developed a profound love for acting. He decided to merge this newfound passion with his entrepreneurial aspirations.
Having been part of the movie industry for over a decade, Gavor has appeared in several notable Nollywood films, including “Obsession.” He also clinched the Best Of Nollywood Awards in 2018.
Former 2nd vice chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has suggested that Alan Kyerematen may not emerge as the winner in the 2024 general elections but could significantly impact the country’s political landscape.
Crabbe asserted that Kyerematen faces formidable challenges in mobilizing the necessary support to realize his presidential aspirations, making it unlikely for him to secure victory.
In an interview with the media, Mr Crabbe opined that Mr Kyerematen might privately acknowledge the difficulty of winning the 2024 elections but could potentially serve as a disruptive candidate.
“It is not easy to organise a political movement and I think he will face a lot of challenges in putting together a machinery that can come up against the NPP and the NDC and that is going to be extremely difficult. I have been in politics for years and I know how those machineries are effective. They are juggernauts, and I am not too concerned about Alan winning the elections.”
“Seriously speaking, if you were to have Alan in a private conversation, he would tell you he does not expect to win the general elections. I don’t think he expects to win, he is the spoiler candidate that we should be looking out for. It is the spoiler effect that I am concerned about.”
Residents of the Duu electoral area in the Wa East district, Upper West Region have made a collective decision to prohibit all politicians from conducting campaign activities in their locality during the upcoming 2024 election season.
This move serves as a powerful statement of protest against what they perceive as consistent neglect by successive governments.
During a mini durbar held to convey their grievances to government representatives, the residents expressed their frustration over the deplorable state of their roads and the absence of electricity in their electoral area.
The Duu electoral area encompasses three significant farming communities within the Wa East district: Duu, Saahe, and Jonfian.
Home to a population exceeding 5,000 residents, this area boasts vast arable land, promising substantial agricultural potential, with more than 90 percent of its inhabitants engaged in farming activities.
However, the road networks connecting these communities become impassable during the rainy season, effectively isolating the area from the rest of the region. Farmers encounter difficulties in transporting their produce, and pregnant women face challenges accessing healthcare services due to these deteriorating roads.
Investigations conducted by Citi News have uncovered that the road contract was awarded an astonishing 12 years ago. Although drain culverts were initially constructed at the project’s onset, the contractor abandoned the work, leaving commuters in a dire situation.
Following two tragic incidents where young individuals lost their lives while attempting to cross a river to reach Funsi, the district capital of Wa East for healthcare services, some concerned residents took it upon themselves to undertake partial road repairs.
Nevertheless, the neglect extends beyond the road infrastructure.
The Duu electoral area has been without electricity for eight years. Residents assert that electricity poles were originally installed as a means to secure their votes, only to be abandoned afterward.
Fatuma, a 45-year-old resident and women’s leader, stressed that their patience has worn thin. They are demanding their fair share of national resources, emphasizing that they have dutifully paid taxes to the Wa East district assembly.
As the Duu electoral area takes this resolute stance against neglect, their message is unmistakable: they are seeking long-overdue attention and action from those in positions of power. With their voices united, they hold out hope that change is on the horizon.
The Eastern Regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jeff Konadu, has attributed the achievements of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, to the government’s efforts.
Speaking to the media, he emphasized that the NPP has made significant improvements in the country’s security landscape, and this accomplishment should be a key campaign message for the upcoming 2024 general election.
Jeff Konadu urged party members to refrain from associating the IGP with a particular political party and instead focus on highlighting the government’s achievements.
He stated, “if the government had not provided the necessary resources for the police, they would not have been able to achieve these results. Therefore, we should appreciate and leverage what Dampare is accomplishing instead of creating divisions by labeling him as an NDC supporter. This will not assist us in winning the election.”
Mr. Konadu called for unity and collective efforts within the party to secure a resounding victory in the 2024 elections.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the party’s foundation and ensuring its readiness to win the election, emphasizing that George Akuffo Dampare has consistently performed well since assuming the role of IGP.
Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Agyemang Badu II, has firmly declared that should the Ghanaian government advocate for the recognition of LGBTQ rights within the nation’s judicial system, he will promptly tender his resignation.
This forthright traditional leader and esteemed High Court judge has articulated his unwavering stance against acknowledging LGBTQ rights in Ghana.
He emphatically expressed that when confronted with the choice between upholding this principle and continuing his legal career, he would willingly opt for the former.
During an interview with the media Dormaahene shared his unequivocal perspective.
“LGBTQ is contrary to our customs, LGBTQ is not biblical, LGBTQ is bad to the core. If you believe in God that he created us, he created us in his own image. He created a man and a woman and asked them to procreate. So, why do we want to change it now? LGBTQ, that a man and a man should marry, a woman and a woman… to me, it is a no go area…
“As a judge, I’m on record to have said that if they decide that as judges we should recognise the human rights of LGBTQ, oh that’s the very day I will stop the job because I won’t recognise that. Not quite long, somebody was brought before me, I told the lawyer, this matter I can’t handle it because my views are known… I am so strong on this view. Nobody can tinker our custom,” he explained.
The Tsito-Anyirawase section of the Ho Accra Highway has been reopened for use after experiencing damage from heavy rains a few weeks ago.
First Sky Construction, within a week, has efficiently repaired the damaged bridge, surpassing the initially provided timeframe for completion.
Oliver Acquah-Techie, the CEO of First Sky Construction, emphasized their commitment to delivering quality work promptly and in accordance with specified standards.
He mentioned that they swiftly addressed the culvert issue between Tsito and Anyirawase, which led to the temporary road closure two weeks ago.
The construction company promptly mobilized resources and technology to ensure the project’s completion within the allotted time.
Acquah-Techie further explained that they are currently conducting tests for any potential weak spots that may arise in the coming weeks.
They will then proceed with the necessary primer for the project. Initially, only light vehicles are allowed on the reopened road until all work is fully completed to accommodate heavier vehicles.
Aminu Issaka Abubakar, the Regional Director of Ghana Highways, indicated that they are monitoring the concrete’s strength to determine if light vehicles can safely use the bridge.
They are awaiting confirmation of the final strength through laboratory tests before permitting heavy-duty vehicles.
Abubakar commended First Sky Construction for their swift response to the project, even as they were concurrently working on the Have – Asikuma, Atiponku to Asikuma roads.
Dr. Achibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, assured the public of the government’s commitment to addressing the deteriorating sections between Sokode Gborgame and Anyirawase.
Additionally, he mentioned ongoing plans for the second phase of the Ho town roads projects and the development of a dual carriage from Anyirawase to Asikuma.
Samson Erinfolami Balogun Eletu, a controversial show promoter popularly known as Sam Larry, has been taken into custody by the Nigeria Police for questioning regarding the ongoing investigation into Mohbad‘s death.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a brief statement on his social media account on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
“Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, aka Sam Larry, is currently in our custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation,”the statement added.
Sam Larry is among the individuals suspected to be connected to the circumstances surrounding the passing of the young Afrobeats musician.
The police have initiated inquiries to unravel the details surrounding the 27-year-old artist’s demise, with an autopsy already conducted after the exhumation of his remains last Thursday.
Mohabd passed away mysteriously on September 12, and reports suggested struggles with depression and other mental health-related issues, speculated to be linked to his contentious departure from his former record label, Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley.
Sam Larry and Naira Marley are known associates, and after Mohbad’s death, videos depicting his mistreatment by the former surfaced online, raising suspicions of their involvement in his demise.
Another video emerged, featuring the deceased pointing to his former boss (Naira Marley) as responsible if anything happened to him.
These revelations have positioned both individuals as primary suspects in the ongoing investigation, while the public continues to call for justice for the late singer.
Despite Sam Larry releasing a video refuting his alleged involvement in Mohbad’s death, stating that the circulating videos were old and should not be used to incriminate him, Nigerians are urging him to present himself to the police to clear his name.
On his part, Naira Marley has denied any connection to the events leading to Mohbad’s death.
He, currently out of the country, vowed to return and cooperate with the police in the ongoing investigation, with the condition that the authorities ensure his safety.
A private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has declared his intention not to vote for any candidate affiliated with either the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 presidential elections.
Instead, he has urged the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to resurrect the political party it had in the 1970s to participate in modern elections.
Mr Kpebu expressed this sentiment while discussing the resignation of former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen from the NPP to run as an independent candidate.
He cited his dissatisfaction with Alan Kyerematen’s association with the NPP and his involvement in the economic challenges created during his seven years of service in the government as reasons for not supporting him.
He stated, “I don’t support Alan, he is too much of NPP and he will come and do the same thing, he is part of the problem, Alan can’t appeal to me,” he said.
Mr Kpebu emphasized the desire for an alternative to the NPP and NDC regimes, calling on the TUC to reestablish its political party from the 1970s.
Mr Kyerematen, who had previously resigned from the NPP in 2007 but later returned, announced his resignation from the party on September 25.
He cited the mistreatment of his supporters and alleged bias in the party’s internal elections as reasons for his departure.
Mr Kyerematen expressed his desire to run as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 elections to directly present his vision to the Ghanaian people.
He explained,“ersons associated with me are treated with disdain and outright outcast,” Mr Kyerematen who placed third in the super delegates conference of the NPP held on August 26 said.
Mr Kyerematen’s decision to run as an independent candidate followed his third-place finish in the NPP’s super delegates conference held on August 26.
A tragic collision on the eastern corridor road between Peki-Adzokoe and Tsibu has claimed the lives of at least 20 individuals.
The accident involved a Grandbird bus heading from Accra to Chinderi in the Oti Region and a Toyota mini-bus traveling from Hohoe to Accra.
The impact of the collision was severe, tearing the Toyota mini-bus into two and causing the Grandbird bus to veer off the road, landing on its side.
Tragically, 15 passengers aboard the mini-bus lost their lives instantly, while five passengers on the Grandbird bus also perished in the crash, which happened at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
The rescue operation was a joint effort involving the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and staff from the Ghana Water Company Limited.
The GNFS team had to employ extrication tools to access the trapped conductor’s lifeless body inside the larger Grandbird bus.
Additionally, more than 20 injured passengers received medical treatment at the Peki Government Hospital, comprising eight men, 12 women, three boys, and two girls. Regrettably, it was later confirmed that three children were among the deceased.
As of the time of reporting, the confirmed casualties included 10 women, six men, and four children.
Attempts to reach officials at the Peki Government Hospital for further information were unsuccessful.
Ghanaian actor and celebrated celebrity fashion designer, Elikem Kumordzi, known as ‘Elikem The Tailor,’ has revealed that the turning point in his fashion journey was triggered by the loss of his father, compelling him to take a one-year break from his university education.
Speaking to the media he explained that, “(Around the same timein) Legon, Level 300, my dad had passed away. This was maybe like some 8 to 10 years now. My mom was doing well for me and my little brother to go to school. He had also started the University of Science and Technology by then I think, so it was hard for everyone so I deferred one year of the course, I was like charley, I can’t do it again. Maybe I will continue school some other day, maybe not. But I don’t have money now. I went home,” he elaborated.
In a bid to overcome his predicament, Elikem’s career journey commenced at Kantamanto, a major market center in Ghana’s capital city, Accra, renowned for the sale of second-hand clothing.
This decision came about when his business involving BlackBerry phones had failed, he hinted.
Elikem revealed that he frequently visited Kantamanto to purchase shirts. Driven by his passion for fashion design, he would modify the shirts by replacing the buttons with African designs and adding his own name.
“I like making clothes, I like looking different. So I go to Kantamanto, get some small money, buy a shirt and changed the buttons. I didn’t know what I was doing. I’ll put some African print on the side. I’ll write my name, I’ll just wear it. I was in adversity, I was down but I wasn’t sleeping. I was out there doing what my mind and my heart and my spirit told me to do for myself,” he stated.
Elikem underlined that this became his routine until someone noticed him wearing one of his customized shirts and admired it, prompting them to request a similar one.
Word-of-mouth recommendations soon led to others requesting his services, and he began creating unique designs for them at no charge.
Due to the growing demand for his work, he eventually started monetizing his business. Leveraging Facebook advertisements, his small venture evolved and gained popularity not only in Ghana but also beyond its borders.
With the money he had earned, Elikem The Tailor was able to return to the university to complete his course.
The fashion designer encouraged learners to persevere through challenges and transform them into valuable learning experiences.
He emphasized, “failure is important in your journey in wanting to become successful. Obstacles will come your way but fail forward and learn the blessing in the lesson”.
A retired military officer and ambassador, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called for a thorough investigation into allegations of financial misconduct within the Akufo-Addo government and among its appointed officials.
As a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a consistent critic of president Akufo-Addo, Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged that the current economic state of the country is a direct result of funds being illicitly diverted by officials within this government.
He emphasized the importance of holding those who have served in the Akufo-Addo government accountable for their actions, including a thorough examination of their financial records to ascertain any funds moved outside the country.
In an interview with the media, Nyaho-Tamakloe stated, “If the new leader fails to do this, he will be my number one enemy because the amounts of money siphoned out of this country are enormous, and this has contributed to the current state we are in.”
Following Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the NPP, Nyaho-Tamakloe has intensified his criticism of the government this week, partly attributing the state of affairs to the president’s firm grip on the governing party.
A candidate aspiring to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has joined the chorus of voices advocating for a change to the constitutional provision that requires most ministers to be members of parliament.
The Assin Central lawmaker believes that this specific provision has consistently weakened the effectiveness of parliament, leading to a lack of proper scrutiny of the executive branch by the legislative arm of government.
Mr Agyapong stated his position during an interview on US-based Kings Radio on September 24, saying,
“No Member of Parliament should be a minister, it weakens parliament. Per the Constitution, about 70% of ministers must be MPs, I totally disagree, we have to change it,” he submitted on US-based Kings Radio on September 24.
He argued that when 70% of the legislature is part of the executive branch, it essentially results in self-scrutiny, and parliament should function as an independent body.
He also highlighted that MPs who become ministers tend to receive preferential treatment, while those who remain solely as MPs face more rigorous scrutiny.
Mr Agyapong acknowledged that there might be strong opposition to his stance and suggested that a referendum could be the way to resolve the issue.
He also lamented the challenges faced by MPs, including early deductions from their salaries for car loans, in contrast to CEOs of government departments and agencies who receive official cars, some of which they can purchase at a fraction of the cost at the end of their tenure.
Kennedy Agyapong, with over two decades of parliamentary experience, is poised to leave parliament as he pursues the NPP flagbearership, signaling his next political move.
He will vie for the flagbearership position alongside three other contenders: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date to elect a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the leader of the party.
Ghanaian journalist, Bridget Otoo has criticized the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, labeling him as “an actor” and “a liar.”
Her remarks stem from a police statement issued over the weekend, which claimed that there was no evidence of assaults during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests.
Otoo, who was involved in an altercation at the Accra Regional Headquarters during the protests, vehemently disagreed with the IGP’s assertion that the illegal arrests of protesters on September 21, 2023, happened without his knowledge.
“It’s a lie, it is a palpable lie. The IGP appeared before the Committee (leaked tape probe) and said he wanted the Ghana Police PR to match international standard, meaning if communication is going to come out of the service, it will be under his supervision, sanctioned at the head office.
“So, assuming that what happened, he wasn’t aware, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt, he is such a good actor and a liar. I have fallen for it but not anymore.
“Assuming that he did not know about it, what prevented him from putting it in his statement,” she quizzed.
Bridget Otoo pointed out that during a previous committee hearing on a leaked tape probe, the IGP had expressed a desire for the Ghana Police Public Relations to meet international standards.
This, in her view, meant that all official communication from the police should be supervised and sanctioned by the head office.
She further questioned why, if the IGP was unaware of the events, he did not include this information in his official statement.
Otoo listed instances of assault on a BBC reporter, an assault on a Metro TV journalist, and her own encounter as widely known cases of police brutality.
Yet, the police statement claimed there were no such assaults.
Bridget Otoo made these remarks during a post-protest analysis segment on Joy News on September 24.
During the three-day protests, on September 23, demonstrators attempted to breach a police barricade late into the night and march toward the presidency, despite the illegal arrests and police heavy-handedness that occurred on Day 1.
On that day, 49 protesters were arrested and held for hours on charges of unlawful assembly before being released on bail.
Days 2 and 3 saw police blocking the main road leading to the presidency, Jubilee House, even before the protesters commenced their march.
While Day 2 involved the closure of one side of the 37-Accra Road, the final day saw both sides blocked, causing significant traffic disruptions for most of the day.
Ghanaian media personality, Serwaa Amihere, was spotted in Daddy Lumba’s residence in commemoration of the latter’s 59th birthday.
The highlife veteran was stunned to see the popular broadcaster who paid a surprise visit to him at his private birthday party.
In a couple of videos making rounds on the internet, Daddy Lumba, upon seeing Serwaa, gave her a warm embrace and uttered some sweet words to her.
Staring right into her eyes and admiring her physique, he said, “I can’t believe you’re here. You are so beautiful, like always. I am blessed. she is the most beautiful.”
Captured in smiles, Serwaa replied, “I am beautiful huh…Happy birthday to the greatest man to ever do it.”
In a separate video, Serwaa and Daddy Lumba were seen relaxing on a couch, sipping on champagne and grooving to the latter’s songs.
Daddy Lumba and Serwaa Amihere have been spotted together a few times and the most recent was during his ‘Legend’s Night’ concert in January.
One can recall that during Daddy Lumba’s performance at that particular event, Serwaa Amihere joined the highlife legend on stage.
Massive reactions were stirred on social media after he held on to Serwaa Amihere’s waist as they both danced and hugged on stage.
Earlier in 2022, Serwaa Amhere emphasized that per her assertions and analysis, there is no singer like Daddy Lumba.
“There is no singer like Daddy Lumba. NO ONE!” she wrote on Twitter.
The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Dr. Freda Prempeh, has issued a stern warning to Aboboyaa operators, cautioning them to exercise vigilance in their operations.
She disclosed that the ministry is in the process of establishing a Sanitation Authority with the mandate to oversee and regulate sanitation service providers, both at the local and national levels.
“The Authority will ensure that these tricycle operators and even the major service providers do the right thing at the right time,” she stated.
She elaborated on the challenges posed by the absence of a regulatory body, which makes it difficult to take corrective measures when service providers deviate from established norms.
Dr. Prempeh conveyed this information during a press briefing in Accra, where she responded to questions concerning law enforcement in addressing the nation’s sanitation issues.
The press conference also served as the announcement platform for a nationwide clean-up exercise scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2023, under the theme “Cleaning for Safe, Healthy and Sustainable Ghana.” This initiative marks a significant step in the country’s ongoing commitment to improving environmental sanitation services and raising awareness.
In her address, the minister stressed the importance of all stakeholders, including the government, non-state actors, the media, and individuals, actively participating in planning and executing clean-up activities across the nation. The objective is to align with the government’s vision of achieving a clean Ghana and ensuring sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) service delivery.
To facilitate the cleanup campaign, the Ministry plans to conduct sensitization campaigns through traditional and social media channels and conduct thorough premises inspections by District Assemblies personnel, among other measures.
Dr. Freda Prempeh also expressed concerns about the practices of tricycle operators providing sanitation services, highlighting that their actions pose significant obstacles to maintaining a clean environment. She observed that many of these operators, after collecting refuse from households and businesses, unlawfully dispose of it in gutters and other unauthorized locations rather than designated dumping sites.
A total of 122,275 potential national service personnel have been assigned to various institutions throughout the nation for their obligatory one-year national service during the 2023/2024 period.
These individuals encompass the 2023 graduates from accredited tertiary institutions in Ghana, defaulters who submitted their placement applications, as well as private registrants.
Regional validation and registration processes are scheduled to commence on Monday, October 16, 2023, at designated centers across the country. This arrangement is intended to accommodate prospective service personnel who are still in the process of completing their academic programs.
The commencement date for the 2023/2024 National Service year is set for Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
This information was conveyed through a press release dated Friday, September 29, 2023, bearing the signature of Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme.
In the statement, NSS management explicitly stated their non-support for the alteration of placements and issued a warning to personnel against engaging with anonymous individuals or groups who claim to possess the ability to modify their assignments.
The National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim, has issued a resolute call to all regional chairmen within the NPP, urging them to maintain unwavering focus on the objective of securing a resounding victory for the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
This call came following an impromptu gathering with all regional chairmen on Thursday, September 28, which took place at the party’s headquarters in Accra. The purpose of this meeting was to deliberate on recent developments within the party and chart a strategic course of action for the future.
Stephen Ntim underscored that central to their discussions were critical matters such as the departure of former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, and the apparent challenges regarding unity within the NPP.
In a Facebook post, the National Chairman of the NPP urged his fellow chairmen to redouble their efforts and maintain unity, thereby facilitating an effortless triumph for the NPP.
In his post, he stated “earlier today, Thursday, September 28, 2023, I held an emergency meeting with NPP Regional Chairmen at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra. The meeting discussed inter alia recent happenings in the party, and the way forward. I used the occasion to admonish them to keep focus and work hard to win their respective regions for the party in 2024, I have their utmost assurance and commitment to duty. Together, we can!”.
Stephen Ntim further stated that he had received assurances from all regional chairmen that they would collaborate harmoniously and strive for unity at all levels of the party to ensure a cohesive NPP.
The activities of illegal sand miners in Abazor, near Obom, and its surrounding communities in the Greater Accra region have caused significant damage to acres of farmland belonging to commercial farmers in the area.
These illegal sand miners primarily operate under the cover of night and dawn, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
The affected farmlands include pineapple, pawpaw, mango, and passion fruit farms, many of which have already been destroyed, while others remain under threat. Some of the impacted farms include Gold Coast Farm, Bomart Farm, Pepson Farms, Jei River Farms (all pineapple farms), and Optsim Farm (a mango farm).
Thousands of farmworkers’ livelihoods are at stake, with approximately 600 workers affected on one farm and over 1,300 workers on a passion fruit farm initiative facing uncertainty.
When authorities attempted to address the issue by arresting illegal sand miners on the farmlands of Golden Exotics Limited, they encountered resistance from the armed perpetrators.
The sand miners were armed with guns, machetes, and sticks, outnumbering the police officers from the Tenbibian Police Station. Eventually, with reinforcements from the Accra Regional Police Command, five illegal sand miners were arrested.
Mark Achel, the Corporate Affairs and Administration Manager of Golden Exotics Limited, expressed his concern about the situation.
He noted that the sand miners not only posed a threat to their farms but also engaged in physical attacks and threats against their workers.
The sand miners’ encroachments have led to a reduction in the company’s cultivated land area, impacting their pineapple cultivation and plans for intensive passion fruit farming.
Golden Exotics Limited, which has been farming in the area for 34 years, has invested over $10 million in the region, including accommodations for workers, offices, farmhouses, irrigation dams, and a pump station.
The company’s long-term investments are now jeopardized due to the ongoing illegal sand mining activities.

On Thursday, September 28, an armed robber was fatally shot at a small-scale mining site near Wassa Akropong in the Western Region, specifically at Wassa Gromisa.
The incident unfolded when a group of three armed robbers attempted a heist at the mining site.
Upon their arrival at the site, the robbers initiated gunfire to induce fear and panic, creating an opportunity for their robbery. However, the skilled security guard at the site also engaged in gunfire, resulting in an exchange of gunshots.
Ultimately, the security guard managed to overpower the robbers, killing one of them and injuring another before the Wassa Akropong Police Command arrived at the scene to assist and rescue the security guard.
Before the police intervention, the robbers attempted to shoot the security guard but were unsuccessful. In response, they resorted to physically attacking him with machetes, causing injuries to his legs and hands.
Due to the severity of the security guard’s injuries, he has been transferred to the Komfo Anokyi Teaching Hospital for medical treatment. One of the robbers, who sustained gunshot wounds to the leg, is currently receiving treatment at the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital under police custody, while another remains at large.
The deceased robber’s body has been placed in the morgue, and investigations into the incident have commenced.
The road from Bogoso to Prestea has long been plagued by its deplorable condition, with numerous potholes and bumps that have gone unaddressed for many years, reflecting the neglect of successive governments.
However, as elections draw near, the people of Prestea have grown weary of the government’s disregard for their plight.
Speaking to the media, residents of Prestea voiced their frustration regarding the poor state of their road networks.
They declared, “We demand that this road be repaired, or else they should not expect to bring a ballot box here for votes.”
One resident, Simon Mensah, emphasized, “We have been neglected for far too long. Despite the fact that various governments have claimed to have awarded the road to a contractor, we have yet to witness any substantial improvement on the road. Every election year, politicians make promises, but these promises have never been fulfilled. They had better take action before the 2024 election.”
He continued, “During the 2020 elections, the NPP began asphalting the Prestea township just a few days before the elections. However, when the then MP, Lawyer Barbara Oteng Gyasi, lost, the work was halted, and we have been living in a dusty environment ever since.”
According to these residents, Asabea Construction Ltd. was the contractor responsible for the road until 2019 when the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Ofori Larbie, publicly insulted the chiefs, authorities, and people of Prestea on Adom FM after community members expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the work being conducted.
Since then, no further work has been undertaken on the road, leaving it to deteriorate further.
The Chief of Kareminga community in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, Siginaa Wuni, has called on the Minister for Tourism to undertake the restoration of the abandoned Kwame Nkrumah hideout in Kareminga, returning it to its former glory.
Constructed in the early 1960s to host Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the building has sadly been left to deteriorate. The premises are now overgrown with weeds, and criminals have pilfered its roofing materials.
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah used the hideout as a place of respite during his visits to the Northern part of the country for official duties.
The building, which includes three bedrooms, two halls, a detached underground water tank, and a kitchen, has remained abandoned since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s passing.
Local residents report that armed robbers have taken to using the building as a hideout and a base for their criminal activities. It has become a frequent location for their operations.
The chief is urging the Minister of Tourism to revamp the building, aiming to attract tourists to the site rather than allowing it to serve as a refuge for criminals.
He stated, “the armed robbers are hiding in the water tank there. They always run and go and hide there. So, during the night, they will come out and rob people. So, they [tourism ministry] should try their best and rehabilitate it by converting it into a school, police station, or military camp so that it will help the community,” he said.
“People have been coming here and keep promising us that they will rehabilitate it but we are not seeing any change”.
“Now, the building has no benefit to the community yet armed robbers are using it to rob people. So my appeal is that the district assembly and the tourism ministry should come and rehabilitate for us,” he stressed.
“People have been coming here and keep promising us that they will rehabilitate it, but we are not seeing any change.”
“Now, the building has no benefit to the community yet armed robbers are using it to rob people. So, my appeal is that the district assembly and the tourism ministry should come and rehabilitate it for us,” he emphasized.
Local residents believe that the renovated building could generate significant revenue for the district assembly.
The Head of the Cardiology Unit at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Abdul-Samed Tanko, has encouraged Ghanaian workers to prioritize taking leave from work to ensure they get proper rest.
He pointed out that the lack of rest is a significant factor contributing to hypertension, a leading cause of various heart-related issues, including kidney problems.
Dr. Tanko highlighted that many Ghanaian employees hesitate to take their leave due to concerns that others might take their positions or lucrative opportunities, leading them to stay on the job without taking time off.
During an interview with the media on Friday, September 29, 203, Dr. Tanko, a Cardiologist, expressed concern about some workers who have been on the job for over six years without taking any leave.
He emphasized that proper rest, including adequate sleep, is crucial for a healthy lifestyle, as individuals who do not get enough sleep are more susceptible to developing hypertension.

A tragic incident has unfolded at the Akoon Community Mining site, a component of the Tarkwa Community Mining Programme, resulting in the feared loss of five lives due to a collapsed mining pit.
The deceased individuals have been recovered and placed in the Tarkwa Morgue, with the mining company assuring that safety measures are being reinforced.
While the incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, September 13, it seems to have gone largely unnoticed by the media.
A miner who was present at the scene of the accident described the atmosphere as unusual and said that they were informed of the accident by a fellow worker who brought four lifeless bodies to the surface.
However, he suggested that the actual number of casualties might be higher, as some individuals sent to extract ore from the pit remain unaccounted for.
Contradicting this account, the General Manager of the mining company contended that the accident occurred in an area where mining was prohibited. He explained that those involved in the incident had worked illegally in a section where they were not allowed to mine. Their activities led to the collapse of the pit’s ceiling, resulting in casualties.
The General Manager confirmed that four individuals were injured and received medical care at Redeemer Hospital, while five unfortunate individuals lost their lives. He noted that this incident represents the most significant fatality since the mining project’s inception.
The Akoon Community Mining is a vital component of the Tarkwa Community Mining Programme, initiated by president Akufo-Addo in 2021. Data indicates that 4,887 people have been directly employed at the mine since the program’s launch.
The Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH) has officially informed the Ghana Police Service and the Minister of Interior of its intention to conduct a peaceful protest against the law enforcement agency on October 15, 2023.
The objective of this protest is to bring attention to the arrests and detentions of citizens during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration, which has been widely criticized as unlawful.
The group emphasized that citizens are only required to notify the police, who, in turn, should provide necessary protection. However, they contend that the police failed to fulfill this obligation.
ADAM-GH stressed citizens’ continuous right to demonstrate without needing permission from the Police or any other state institution.
Furthermore, the demonstration seeks to raise awareness about eight innocent Ghanaians who lost their lives during the 2020 general elections, with no action taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Additionally, the protest aims to shed light on allegations made by Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, suggesting that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is aware of the killers of undercover Journalist Ahmed Suale.
It also aims to address concerns about selective justice within the police force.
ADAM-GH shared the proposed route and activities for the day, which include starting at Obra Spot at Circle, moving through the Sankara interchange to the Ministry of Interior to submit a petition, proceeding to Police headquarters to submit another petition to the Inspector General of Police, and addressing the media in the police inner court.
The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Freda Prempeh, has called upon all Ghanaians to actively fulfill their designated roles effectively in matters related to sanitation and hygiene.
The call is essential to realize the government’s vision of achieving a clean Ghana.
She made these remarks during the launch of World Cleanup Day, celebrated annually on September 30. The local theme for the event is “Cleaning for Safe, Healthy, and Sustainable Ghana.”
The launch took place at the Minister’s Press Briefing in Accra.
The World Cleanup Day celebration involves various activities, including a widespread clean-up initiative across Ghana, awareness campaigns through traditional and social media, and thorough premises inspections conducted by District Assemblies staff, among other events.
“The Government and Non-State Actors, the Media as well as individuals are urged to come together to plan and execute cleanup activities across the country. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s mandate to develop policies that enhance the delivery of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services in the country.
She also outlined the roles and responsibilities of various entities, including Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, in providing WASH facilities and enforcing sanitation bylaws.
World Cleanup Day, celebrated on September 30, is a global movement that originated in Estonia in 2008. It has since grown exponentially, bringing together millions of people worldwide to clean up their environments, raise awareness about responsible waste management, and promote sustainable living.
Minister Freda Prempeh highlighted Ghana’s achievements in the WASH sector, including being the first country to sign the Sanitation and Water for All Compact. This commitment has enabled Ghana to prioritize WASH services delivery and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) related to water, well ahead of the deadline.
She noted that Ghana has made significant investments in expanding water and sanitation services, resulting in increased access to basic drinking water and improved sanitation facilities. Additionally, progress has been made in maintaining good ambient water quality and proper solid waste disposal.
Looking forward, the Minister emphasized the government’s vision for the WASH sector, including effective water resources management, the expansion of access to liquid waste management, and improved solid waste management practices.
She also highlighted the importance of hygiene practices, especially handwashing, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the Minister expressed concern about the negative impact of illegal mining activities on water resources, aquatic life, and public health. She underscored the need for collaborative efforts to mitigate these activities and protect Ghana’s freshwater resources.
The 2020 parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Oforikrom constituency, Henry Osei Akoto, has likened the campaign strategy of Assin Central’s Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, to that of the current president, Akufo-Addo.
In a tweet, Osei Akoto stated that the MP, who is seeking to secure the NPP’s flagbearer position and potentially become the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections, is adopting a campaign style reminiscent of how the president conducted his campaign before winning his initial election.
“The way Kennedy Agyapong is talking is the same way Akufo-Addo spoke before becoming president.
“They are the same,” he wrote.
The National Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to choose a new flagbearer in November 2023.
However, a significant development has shaken up the party’s internal dynamics. One of the prominent contenders in the race, Alan Kyerematen, has opted to withdraw from the competition and subsequently resigned from the party.
Additionally, the former Minister of Trade and Industry has declared his intention to run as an independent presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The construction of crucial drainage systems aimed at facilitating water flow and averting floods at Wassa Simpa within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality has been at a standstill since 2020.
The repercussions of this incomplete initiative are impacting the inhabitants of the area.
Originally intended to ensure efficient drainage and redirect water, these gutters now stand unfinished, presenting open gaps that pose significant risks to the community.
In the absence of proper covering, residents have resorted to placing wooden planks over these openings to ensure safe passage.
Rather than utilizing the existing drainage route during construction, a new path was chosen, disrupting the natural water flow in the locality.
Consequently, this alteration has resulted in water pooling and flooding on streets and properties.
The residents voice their apprehensions, especially during the rainy season. The exposed gutters are perceived as potential accident sites, and incidents of slips and falls have become all too common, causing distress among community members.
B. Baker, a flood victim, shared how the continuous water influx from neighboring areas adversely affects his shop. His business establishment consistently grapples with challenges due to the water influx.
Speaking to the local Assembly member, Wilberforce Essien, it was revealed that the incomplete project has exacerbated the flooding predicament in the area.
He said: “the construction of the gutter started in 2020, but because the Covid set in, the project was halted. We were all waiting for the continuation of the project, but after the election, nothing went on again”.
“Politics has crept into the project such that when you begin to talk too much about it, you are tagged, so for me, I have stopped talking about it”,
Essien further mentioned that the project was initiated by the Member of Parliament, George Mireku Duker, and expressed hope that it would resume in 2024.
