  • 5 reasons why Mahama may win 2020 election

John Dramani Mahama has been a pacesetter known for his visionary policies and interventions when he was President of Ghana. He was faced with numerous challenges and proved his worth during his stay in office.

John Dramani Mahama features a long-standing record in infrastructural development which is uncontested within the 4th republic dispensation of our Ghanaian politics. This has helped improve tourism which generates many income, his numerous roads infrastructure which has transformed lives of Ghanaians. His hospital projects are the key infrastructures that are standing tall during this COVID season, so it’s interesting to understand that his infrastructure projects really transformed lives and businesses which his opponent cannot context. Though he’s con , he stands tall when it involves the fight against coronavirus in Ghana.

    Vindicated Corruption tag and Perception

Most Ghanaians, before today, were made to believe that John Dramani Mahama was the foremost corrupt President Ghana has ever had, but after power transcended, everyone had seen that this is not the important narrative. The corruption perception index has vindicated him and Ghanaians can read between the lines now. He has also proven his commitment to fighting corruption by prosecuting his own appointee who is in prisons at the instant . Ghanaians need an honest President and JM is one.

    Economy

His economic policies are fantastic, i.e. Contingency funds, ESLA, sinking funds amongst others that’s the backbone of our Ghanaian economy today albeit he was embarking on infrastructural projects.

    The fixed problems

One of the main problems that was draining his government was “Dumsor” and to chop the story short, he resolved the matter with excess energy capacity. This proves that he’s a goal-oriented individual and that we need him back to continue his good work.

    Need to continue unfinished projects

Many projects that the toilet Mahama-led administration started are ignored by this government. These are hospital and faculty projects that cost the taxpayer billions of dollars. The continued abandonment of those projects would mean a waste of state funds. He has got to return to resume these projects. He has promised to not abandon any project that the NPP government has started when voted into power.

What does JM bring back the table?

JM has reiterated his commitment and vision to continue his accessible health care delivery across every region and district across the country. Infrastructure development would continue right down to every district during this country. One challenge with reference to our education in Ghana is that the needless double-track system which might be abolished under his watch. there’s a stimulating and enviable youth policy which might cater for youth unemployment, education and housing captured within the People’s Manifesto. The welfare of the aged who were within the informal sector would be captured and addressed under a replacement JM government. the worth for waste program that might address the waste management problem to make sure a healthy and clean country. If we are to capture every sector we wouldn’t end but i’m certain that with the comeback of JM, we might return back to the great old days.

  • Your ‘intransigent behaviour’ doesn’t befit the EC – Kwesi Pratt rebukes commissioners

Kwesi Pratt has cautioned the Commissioners of Ghana’s electoral management body to watch how they talk to opposition political parties in the country.

According to Kwesi Pratt, the Electoral Commission has been using unsavoury words on the parties for being against their decision to compile a new voters’ register.

He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the opposition parties have been branded as “nation wreckers” which, to him, doesn’t reflect the neutrality of the Commission.

“How can you then supervise a politically neutral process if you believe some political parties are nation wreckers?” he asked.

He advised the Commissioners to ”watch their tongue when talking”, adding that their responses on the new voters’ register feed into the notion that they want to rig the 2020 elections.

“If you don’t choose your words carefully, you strengthen that impression even though it may not be true. If you’re a Commissioner and you talk publicly against a political party, that is the impression you’re likely to create and that’s a problem. It’s a major issue,” he stressed.

He also called on the election management body to stop portraying a headstrong attitude towards the opposers of a new voters’ register.

“That intransigent attitude of them not willing to listen to any person is not fitting for the Electoral Commission. An Electoral Commission must necessarily build consensus,” he added.

  • NPP wants to rig because their own research point to their defeat – Edem Agbana

A Deputy Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has conducted several- research works pointing to their defeat in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary polls hence their plot to rig the polls.

He disclosed to Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the NDC has laid hands on some of these works and would resist any attempt to have the polls rigged in favour of the NPP.

Edem Agbana said from grounds work done by the NDC, they will win the 2020 polls massively because Ghanaians are tired of the incompetence being exhibited by the ruling government.

To him, if the EC organises a free, fair, credible and transparent election, the NDC will defeat the NPP.

The NPP he added has failed to transform the lives of Ghanaians as they promised during the 2016 campaign.

Ghanaians he indicated prefer former President Mahama as president because his performance was exceptional and unprecedented.

  • Bawumia calls on politicians to desist from insults ahead of 2020 election

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that his outfit will be running a clean campaign hence all politicians must adhere to that ahead of the 2020 elections.

He advised Ghanaians to desist from doing politics of insults.

“We want a very free, fair and violent-free election. We won the power or mandate of the people when we were in opposition. And so, we have to just send a message of what did we do when we had the opportunity to serve the people. What exactly have we been able to do,” said Dr. Bawumia.

“That is what the election should be fought on; the record. Record of what you have been able to do and what you have planned to do,”he told Joy FM

“In terms of what we say, the President has always made the point that we should make sure that how we speak and what we say to the public bring about peace, bring about understanding.”

“I think if we all focused on that, there should be no acrimony. And allow the electoral commission to do its work and we will all come in and participate in this great expression of democracy during this election.”

  • Parliament summons Jean Mensa over December polls

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensa, has been summoned by Parliament to brief the house next week on her plans for 2020 elections.

Majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu informed the House during the business statement for next week.

The announcement follow demands by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu and other MPs who demanded the commission to appear before the house with a brief on arrangements for the December 7 polls.

Responding to their concerns, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said the commission has been summoned to brief Parliament next week.

Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says about 93% of potential voters in the Upper East and Upper West regions will be ineligible to vote if the electoral commission insists on its controversial voter registration methods.

The Electoral Commission has said the Ghana card and passports are the primary documents to be used for the upcoming registration.

However, the Director of Elections of the NDC Elvis Afriyie Ankrah says it will be undemocratic to resort to such a means to disenfranchise Ghanaians from voting.

Addressing the media in Accra Thursday, Mr Afriyie-Ankrah said “Only about 6.5 million people have access to the NIA card. The NIA could not dispute our claim that only 5.17 per cent and 6.36 per cent of the registrable population in the Upper West and Upper East regions, respectively, have been issued Ghana cards, as we speak.

“So, Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Savannah, North-East, you look at the figures, 86 per cent, 84 per cent, 85 per cent and Upper East and Upper West 5.17 per cent and Upper East 6.36 per cent. So, the rest of the ninety-something per cent, what is going to happen to them? Are they not Ghanaians? Do they not deserve to be treated rightly, fairly and justly as anybody else? Do they have to go through the hustle of trying to find people to guarantee for them with all its delays and frustrations?”.

He stressed: “So, take note of that because when we speak, they say where is the conspiracy. So, by strange, accidental reason, [in] the strongholds of the NDC, you have a situation where 93 per cent of eligible voters in these two regions would not have access to their cards. And they have to resort to the secondary method of vouching as the norm rather than the exception. Is it fair, is it right? Are you creating a level playing field?”

“The big question, therefore, is why would the Jean Mensa-led EC rely on an identification card, Ghana card, whose issuance is largely incomplete, and fraught with several anomalies and demographic disparities? Why is the Jean Mensa-led EC excluding from the list of registration requirements under the proposed C.I. their own widely available and acceptable voter ID card and rather including the Ghana card, which is currently possessed by just about 6.5 million Ghanaians who are 18 years and above? A card which is currently not accepted by any public, private or commercial institution.

  • NDC’s Yayra Koku provides evidence to prove NIA, EC want to rig 2020 elections

Yayra Koku, a vocal member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the government of conspiring with the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Identification Authority (NIA) to rig the 2020 general election.

He said the EC plan to disenfranchise a significant number of persons in NDC strongholds adding that the EC’s grand scheme to rig the 2020 general election for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Data from NIA indicates that 5.1 million (5,159,569) cards have been issued to registrants.

6 million did not have primary documents required for registration.

According to the data, six million (6,041,938), representing 71% of the 8.5 million people registered, did not have a birth certificate, a valid passport or existing Ghana Card, which are the primary documents required for registration but Yayra Koku said the figures by the NIA are false.

He provided statistics of the NIA registration in both NPP and NDC strongholds to prove that, the EC and the NIA plan to disenfranchise people in the strongholds of the NDC.

He said the “NIA registered 2.4m people in Ashanti Region and issued 1.7m cards out with a backlog of over 400,000.

“In the Eastern Region, they have registered 1.2m people and issued over 600,000 cards out with a backlog of over 140,000. Don’t forget they have not even finished with the registration in the Eastern Region.

“These two regions are the stronghold of NPP. The funny thing is, in these regions, NIA deployed all their Machines there. Now check this out”.

In a Facebook post, he provided the statistics that “In the Upper East, NIA registered over 220,000 people, issued over 49,000 cards out and have a backlog of only 45,000.

In the Volta Region, NIA registered over 560,000 people and issued over 420,000 with a backlog of 3,700.

“Upper West, they registered 147,000 people and issued over 26,000 with a backlog of 2,700+.

“I can go on and on and on. The figures are scaring, and I’m shocked Attafuah is allowing this useless government to manipulate him. He has lost his integrity.

“Now check Greater Accra, they registered 1.9m and have issued 1.2m with a backlog 6,045.

“I know some people will say the figures don’t add up. Yes because they have printed some of the cards and are unable to issue them out. This means NIA has to go to these regions again and issue the cards out. For example, in Upper West, they have printed over 144,000 cards but have only issued 26,000+. Same with other regions.

“In all, NIA has not issued over 3.5m cards out.”

He, therefore, charged Ghanaians to rise against the EC and the NIA to rig the elections in favour of the NPP.

  • Trump acquitted at end of months long impeachment process, found not guilty of two articles

The Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump on two articles of impeachment Wednesday, marking the inevitable and historic end to a bitterly fought, divisive impeachment trial that will reverberate into the 2020 election and shape Trump’s presidential legacy.

But the final day of the Senate’s impeachment trial was not without suspense: Sen. Mitt Romney, a Utah Republican, found the President guilty of abuse of power, becoming the first senator in US history to vote to remove from office a president from the same party.
The third Senate impeachment trial of a sitting president in US history concluded Wednesday afternoon with votes finding the President not guilty of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, the impeachment articles the House charged Trump with in December. Romney was the sole Republican to vote to convict the President on the first article of impeachment, abuse of power, joining with all Senate Democrats in a 52-48 not guilty vote. Romney voted with Republicans against the obstruction of Congress charge, which fell along straight party lines, 53-47 for acquittal.
The acquittal verdict was the final act of a four-month impeachment process that inflamed the partisan tensions simmering throughout the course of the Trump administration, friction that boiled over during the State of the Union even though Trump left impeachment out of his speech. While Wednesday’s vote marks the end of the formal impeachment process, Trump and his Democratic detractors are sure to take up the fight over the ultimate significance of the President’s impeachment as the presidential campaign heats up.

  • Jean Mensa cannot make Mahama President Okoe Boye tells NDC

Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku constituency, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has asked the NDC to stop attacking the Electoral Commission (EC).

“One of the features of democracy is that when there is an issue on board, everyone can express his/her opinion on it but that does not also state that your opinion should be the final decision. in fact, in democracy if you think that your opinion is the best and turn to be otherwise you just have to seek redress from a court,” Dr Okoe Boye said.

Parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency John Dumelo has said the party will win the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections without shedding blood.

He told a gathering at the one-year commemoration of the shooting incident during the by-election that, the only difference between the NDC and NPP is that “we will come to power without any bloodshed”.

He was of the view that the NPP should have joined them to sympathise with those who were affected during the violence.

He said “we shall win power without shedding blood, without any violence and without any form of discrimination and intimidation. we shall win a free and fair and credible election, with or even without a new voters’register”.
