A$AP Rocky praises Rihanna’s support at Gotham Awards

A$AP Rocky has praised Rihanna following their appearance at the Gotham Awards.

According to PEOPLE, the couple, both aged 37, attended the event after Rocky received a nomination for Breakthrough Performer for his role in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest.

The ‘Praise the Lord’ rapper and fashion designer said Rihanna’s presence at the ceremony meant “everything” to him.

“Family support is just … spousal support, everything,” Rocky said. “It just means a lot. It goes a long way.”

In an earlier interview with Perfect Magazine, Rocky spoke about balancing his career with fatherhood, noting that he finds joy in being a “father and a partner and a loving husband.”

The 37-year-old made the remarks while responding to a question about the moments when he “experiences the greatest satisfaction and happiness.”

Rocky, who shares two sons and a daughter with Rihanna, said peace plays a key role in his happiness. “I think peace really makes me happy,” he said.

“Being a father and a partner and a loving husband in my family is what makes me really, really happy. I hope this doesn’t sound cliché, and I would hate if it does, because that’s what honestly gets me going: being able to express myself creatively, being able to be a family man and being able to be an artisan. It doesn’t matter what hat I wear that day, it’s just about being able to give it my all and do these things.”

In a separate interview with Complex, Rocky also spoke about his daughter when asked about his favourite thing he created this year.

“My daughter,” said Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers, laughing. “That’s my favorite thing I created this year. Shout out to Rocki Irish.”

Last year, the two made headlines as they confirmed they were expecting their third child during the 2025 Met Gala in New York.

The iconic singer and beauty mogul, 37, revealed her baby bump while posing for cameras on the red carpet, elegantly dressed and glowing with joy.

Holding her growing belly with pride, Rihanna closed out the arrivals at fashion’s biggest night, making a grand entrance that sparked excitement among fans and media alike.

Her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky—whose real name is Rakim Mayers—confirmed the news while walking the red carpet. He graciously thanked reporters who congratulated them and hinted at the reveal by saying, “It is time to just show the people what we were cooking up.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” he added. “I’m glad everybody’s happy for us because we’re definitely happy.”

The couple, who already share two sons, are known for turning high-profile appearances into moments of personal celebration. Rihanna previously debuted her first pregnancy in a Harlem photoshoot in 2022 and surprised the world with news of her second during her Super Bowl halftime show performance in 2023.

This year’s Met Gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” marked a significant occasion in the fashion calendar, with A$AP Rocky serving as one of the co-chairs. The event celebrated Black menswear and style innovation, and the couple’s appearance added a personal, heartfelt highlight to the night.

Rihanna’s third pregnancy reveal continues her trend of blending iconic fashion moments with major life announcements—solidifying her reputation for rewriting the rules on celebrity culture and maternity style.

On another note, Rapper A$AP Rocky was declared not guilty of allegedly shooting at a former friend.

A Los Angeles jury acquitted the musician, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, of two serious assault charges that could have landed him in prison for up to 24 years.

Terell Ephron claimed that during an argument on a Hollywood street on November 6, 2021, the Grammy-nominated artist fired a gun at him, with one bullet reportedly grazing his knuckles.

Mayers, a well-known fashion entrepreneur and Rihanna’s longtime partner, denied the accusations, insisting that the gun in question was just a prop and that Ephron, who goes by A$AP Relli, was only trying to get money from him.

As soon as the first “not guilty” verdict was read in court on Tuesday, cheers and applause erupted. Mayers quickly turned to his family and Rihanna, who were sitting behind him, leaping over a wooden barrier to hug them.

Rihanna had been present throughout the trial and, for the final verdict, brought their two young sons, RZA and Riot.

Tearing up, Mayers embraced his lawyers when the second verdict was announced.

“Thank God for saving my life,” he said out loud, also expressing gratitude to the jury.

Mayers was initially arrested after a heated argument with Ephron in the heart of Hollywood.

The two had been close since high school in New York and were part of the A$AP Mob collective before their friendship soured as Mayers’ career skyrocketed.

Investigators say Ephron met Mayers outside a Hollywood hotel the day after they had a disagreement.

Their argument escalated, and Mayers allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband, pointing it at Ephron while saying, “I’ll kill you right now.”

“He looked me in my eyes and pointed the gun at me,” Ephron testified in court.

Ephron claimed he challenged Mayers to shoot, but instead, the rapper walked away. However, when Ephron continued yelling and following him, Mayers allegedly fired several shots, with one bullet grazing Ephron’s hand.

The trial largely focused on whether the firearm was a real weapon or just a movie prop, as Mayers’ defense team argued.

Police never recovered the gun, and while some of the altercation was caught on surveillance footage—complete with audio of gunfire—there was no clear video showing the actual shooting.

Ephron waited two days before reporting the incident and even brought shell casings he claimed to have found at the scene.

However, when police initially responded to reports of gunfire, they found no shell casings. Ephron, who said he returned with his girlfriend hours later, claimed he knew exactly where to look, but security footage didn’t confirm his story.

Instead of seeking treatment in Los Angeles, Ephron flew back to New York before seeing a doctor.

Mayers’ defense team suggested Ephron may have planted the shell casings to frame the rapper.

The trial was filled with tense moments, especially when Ephron, the prosecution’s key witness, took the stand.

At one point, Ephron snapped at Mayers’ lawyer, calling him “annoying,” prompting a warning from the judge.

A$AP Twelvyy, another witness, was questioned about a photograph showing Mayers’ bed with the letters “AWGE” on the frame.

When asked what it meant, Mayers interrupted the court and shouted, “Don’t say!” Twelvyy refused to explain.

Defendants rarely speak out during trials, especially in front of a jury, making Mayers’ outburst particularly unusual.

Now cleared of the charges, the rapper is gearing up to release his first solo album in nearly a decade and is set to co-headline the Rolling Loud festival in Los Angeles in March 2025.

He will also star alongside Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s upcoming film Highest 2 Lowest, set for release in the coming months.

“All glory to God, humbled by His mercy” – Rihanna after baby daddy’s verdict

Rihanna is feeling grateful after A$AP Rocky was cleared of all charges in his felony assault case.

The 36-year-old singer, who has been with A$AP Rocky since 2020, expressed her relief on Instagram following his acquittal on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

“All glory to God. Grateful and humbled by His mercy,” she wrote.

A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, was accused of shooting his former friend Terrell Ephron near a hotel nearly four years ago. He denied the allegations throughout the trial.

The rapper was facing up to 24 years in prison, but after almost a month in court, a jury of 12 found him not guilty after long trial.

Following the verdict, Mayers expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank God for saving my life. This whole experience has been crazy for the past four years. I’m thankful and blessed to be a free man talking to y’all.”

Rihanna, who has two children with A$AP Rocky—RZA, 2, and Riot, 18 months—sat behind him in court as the verdict was announced.

During the trial, Terrell Ephron claimed that A$AP Rocky shot at him, injuring his hand. However, Mayers’ lawyers argued that the gun was just a prop and not real.

Although security cameras recorded parts of the incident, there was no video evidence of the actual shooting.

Judge Mark Arnold dismissed the case, telling the rapper, “Mr. Mayers, you’re excused!”

Before the trial, A$AP Rocky had rejected a plea deal that would have required him to serve six months in jail.

“The glory belongs to God and God alone” – Rihanna reacts to A$AP Rocky’s acquittal

Rihanna has expressed her joy and gratitude following the acquittal of her longtime partner, A$AP Rocky, in a high-profile legal battle that could have drastically altered his future.

On Tuesday, a Los Angeles jury found the rapper, born Rakim Mayers, not guilty on two felony assault charges linked to a 2021 incident in Hollywood. If convicted, he could have faced up to 24 years behind bars.

In response to the verdict, Rihanna took to social media to share her emotions, writing: “THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD AND GOD ALONE! THANKFUL, HUMBLED BY HIS MERCY!”

The case centered on allegations by Terell Ephron, a former close friend and fellow A$AP Mob member, who claimed that Rocky fired a gun at him during a heated altercation on November 6, 2021. One of the bullets allegedly grazed his knuckles.

Mayers, however, denied the accusations, insisting the weapon was merely a prop and that Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, was seeking financial gain through his claims.

As the jury delivered its verdict, the courtroom erupted in cheers. Overcome with emotion, Rocky leaped over a wooden barrier to embrace Rihanna and his family. He then hugged his lawyers, his eyes filled with tears as the second not-guilty verdict was read.

“Thank God for saving my life,” he declared, before expressing gratitude to the jury for their decision.

Rihanna, who stood by his side throughout the trial, was present in court on Tuesday when the verdict was announced—witnessing the moment her partner walked away a free man.

The legal dispute stemmed from a confrontation in Hollywood, a day after a previous disagreement between Mayers and Ephron. Once close friends, their relationship reportedly fractured as A$AP Rocky’s fame soared.

Now free from the case, Rocky is set to make a major return to the spotlight. He is gearing up for the release of his first solo album in nearly a decade and will co-headline Los Angeles’ Rolling Loud festival in March 2025. He has also been named as a co-chair for the prestigious Met Gala in May, alongside Anna Wintour, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and LeBron James.

Beyond music and fashion, he will appear in Spike Lee’s upcoming film Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington, scheduled for release this summer.

A$AP Rocky acquitted on two felony assault charges

A$AP Rocky has been cleared of all charges in a high-profile case that could have landed him behind bars for decades.

A Los Angeles jury on Tuesday acquitted the rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, of two felony assault charges stemming from a 2021 incident in Hollywood. The charges carried a maximum sentence of 24 years in prison.

The case revolved around allegations made by Terell Ephron, a former friend of A$AP Rocky and fellow member of the A$AP Mob hip-hop collective. Ephron accused the Grammy-nominated artist of shooting at him during an argument on November 6, 2021, with one bullet allegedly grazing his knuckles.

However, Mayers vehemently denied the accusations, claiming the gun was merely a prop and that Ephron, known as A$AP Relli, was motivated by financial gain.

As the jury delivered its verdict, the courtroom erupted in cheers. Overcome with emotion, A$AP Rocky leaped over a wooden barrier to embrace his family and longtime partner, global pop icon Rihanna. He then hugged his legal team, his eyes welling with tears as the second not-guilty verdict was read.

“Thank God for saving my life,” Mayers declared, before turning to thank the jury for their decision.

The legal battle stemmed from a confrontation between Mayers and Ephron in the heart of Hollywood, just a day after a dispute between the two. Though they had once been close, their relationship reportedly soured as A$AP Rocky’s career skyrocketed.

Now free from legal uncertainty, A$AP Rocky is poised for a major comeback. He is gearing up to release his first solo album in nearly a decade and is scheduled to co-headline the Rolling Loud festival in Los Angeles in March 2025. Additionally, he will serve as a co-chair for the prestigious Met Gala in May, alongside Anna Wintour, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and LeBron James.

Beyond music and fashion, the rapper is set to appear in Spike Lee’s highly anticipated film Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington, which is slated for release this summer.

Throughout the trial, Rihanna made several appearances in court to support her partner. She was present on Tuesday when the verdict was announced, standing by him as he walked away a free man.

  • A$AP Rocky set to stand trial for allegedly shooting a firearm at his childhood friend

A$AP Rocky set to stand trial for allegedly shooting a firearm at his childhood friend

Rapper A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is set to face trial on charges of firing a pistol in a dispute with a former childhood friend, as ruled by a Los Angeles judge on Monday.

The decision followed the second day of a preliminary hearing attended by Mayers.

Prosecutors assert that the 35-year-old Mayers pointed and discharged a handgun at Terell Ephron two years ago, resulting in minor injuries.

Mayers, who has pleaded not guilty and has two children with singer Rihanna, is charged with two felony counts of assault with a firearm. If convicted, he could face up to nine years in prison.

Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli and a member of the A$AP Mob hip-hop collective, alleges in a separate lawsuit that he is a victim of assault and battery, negligence, and emotional distress.

Ephron claims that Mayers lured him to a secluded location outside the W Hotel in Hollywood to discuss a disagreement.

CCTV footage presented in court allegedly shows Mayers brandishing and firing a gun, as testified by an LA detective. Mayers’s legal team disputes that their client is the individual seen in the video.

During the preliminary hearing, Superior Court Judge ML Villar determined whether there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial, not whether a crime had been committed.

Preliminary hearings have a lower burden of proof compared to full trials.

Mr Ephron is also suing Mr Mayers, claiming that after a verbal altercation, Mr Mayers “pulled out a handgun and purposefully pointed it in the direction of [Mr Ephron] and fired multiple shots”.

Mr Ephron was “struck by a bullet projectile or fragment” in his left hand and required medical attention, according to the court papers. He is seeking at least £25,000 (£20,000) in damages.

In an August 2022 court hearing, a judge mandated that Mr. Mayers must maintain a distance of 100 yards (300 feet) from Mr. Ephron at all times.

Previously, Mr. Mayers received a two-year suspended sentence for his involvement in a brawl in Stockholm, Sweden, in August 2019.

Joe Tacopina, the attorney representing Mr. Mayers in the Los Angeles case, is also concurrently representing former President Donald Trump in his New York civil fraud trial.

Known by his stage name A$AP Rocky, he emerged as one of the prominent breakout stars of the 2010s, achieving eight platinum singles in the US, including hits like “Wild For The Night,” “Everyday,” “LSD,” and “A$AP Forever.”

His rise to fame was propelled by the support of artists such as Drake, and he has collaborated with notable figures like Alicia Keys, Lana Del Rey, Skepta, Selena Gomez, and Kendrick Lamar.

VGMA: Amerado, first ‘Kumerican’ to win Best Rapper Award

Ghanaian rapper Amerado, is the the first Kumasi rapper to win the Best Rapper awardat 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

At the 2023 VGMA, Amerado beat out several well-known rappers, including Teephlow, Medikal, Strongman, and Lyrical Joe, to take home the Best Rapper award. His win was a significant achievement for Kumasi rap and a testament to the talent and hard work of the rapper.

The award was well-deserved, as Amerado has been consistent in his music delivery, with each release showcasing his growth as an artist. His “Yeete Nsem” series, which started as a weekly rap news review on social media, has become a cultural phenomenon in Ghana. The series covers a range of topics, from politics to social issues, and has amassed a large following.

Amerado’s win at the VGMA is not only a personal achievement but also a victory for Kumasi rap. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky reveal name of baby boy

According to sources, the official birth certificate revealed Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have named their first child RZA Athelston Mayers.

It appears that the name RZA is a tribute to Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The baby boy’s middle name, Athelston, honors his father, Rakim Athelaston Mayers. The birth certificate also confirms that RZA was born on May 13, 2022.

Clues about the name choice were evident as Rihanna was seen wearing Wu-Tang Clan and RZA merchandise after the birth of her son.

Three months post-delivery, she donned a vintage RZA concert t-shirt paired with a black jean miniskirt and matching thigh-high slouchy denim boots.

In recent photographs taken in Paris, the “Diamonds” singer was spotted carrying her little boy while wearing a Wu-Tang Clan shirt.

Rihanna, who is currently pregnant with her second child, spoke about the joys of motherhood with British Vogue in February.

“It’s everything,” she said of being a mom. “You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever. You literally try to remember it—and there are photos of my life before—but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far, because…Because it doesn’t matter.”

Met Gala: A$AP Rocky hoping over barricade ahead left by standers in shock

On Monday night, the annual Met Gala took place in New York City, and while many were waiting to see what celebrities like Rihanna and Beyoncé would be wearing, it was A$AP Rocky who made the headlines. The rapper was seen hopping over a barricade to get into the Carlyle Hotel ahead of the fashion event, a video posted to Twitter purportedly showed.

The video was posted by HuffPost senior editor Philip Lewis, and it showed A$AP Rocky appearing to push past a group of people and jump over a barrier outside the hotel.

ASAp Rocky hopes over barricade into hotel ahead of Met Gala

Once he got onto the hotel’s red carpet, someone in the crowd handed him a duffle bag, as the video seemed to show.

A$AP Rocky’s representatives did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment on the video, which has 1.3 million views at the time of writing.

Shortly after the footage went viral, the woman whose face A$AP Rocky appeared to palm in the video revealed herself on Twitter to be 21-year-old Madelyn Llanes from Long Island, New York. She wrote that she wasn’t offended by the rapper’s behavior and that he didn’t hurt her.

“ASAP Rocky just literally jumped over me,” she tweeted alongside a selfie with her glasses slightly askew.

Llanes later spoke to The Independent about the incident.

“I had felt someone tapping my shoulder, so I turned around and saw that it was him but my brain didn’t fully comprehend that it was him,” she said.

Llanes said Rocky then told her, “Sweetheart, I need to get through.” She said she told him no, but he did not care.

“He just pushed his way up and then hopped over and grabbed me and the guy next to me as he did,” she said. “After he hopped over, he was like ‘thank you’ and then just laughed and flipped me off and then he went inside and that’s when I fully realized it was him.”

Some people online felt sorry for the Llanes. One wrote: “He put all his weight on that poor woman!” Another user made light of the situation, tweeting: “The power of celebrity is using someone’s face as a springboard and them looking at you in awe over it lol.”

One person who claimed to be in attendance captured a different perspective of A$AP Rocky’s jump. The user was surprised by how close the rapper was to them.

This is not the first time A$AP Rocky has made headlines for his actions at the Met Gala. In 2019, he walked the red carpet with a giant blanket that looked like a duvet cover, which many people found amusing. He has also been known for his stylish outfits at the annual event.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It has been held since 1948 and is considered one of the biggest nights in the fashion industry. Each year, the event has a theme, and this year’s theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

The event was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it returned this year with various safety protocols in place. All attendees were required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result, and the event was held outdoors to reduce the risk of transmission.

A$AP Rocky wasn’t the only one who caused a stir at this year’s event. Kim Kardashian also turned heads with her outfit, which covered her entire body, including her face. The outfit was designed by Balenciaga and included a black face covering and a long black dress with a train.

Other notable attendees included Billie Eilish, who wore a peach-colored gown with a long train, and actor Timothée Chalamet, who wore a white Haider Ackermann suit with black lapels and Converse sneakers.

Despite the various safety protocols in place, the Met Gala has been criticized by some for being tone-deaf during the pandemic. The event, which is known for its opulence and extravagance, has been described as a symbol of excess during a time when many people are struggling.

Overall, this year’s Met Gala was a star-studded event that drew attention from around the world. While A$AP Rocky’s antics may have stolen the show in the early hours, the event was ultimately a celebration of fashion and creativity, with many attendees using their outfits to make a statement about American culture and identity.

The Carlyle is a popular hotel among celebrities attending the Met Gala, according to Cosmopolitan. It’s where many Met Gala attendees will unveil their looks for the event before arriving at the nearby Metropolitan Museum of Art, the venue for the famous Costume Institute gala.

The Manhattan hotel has also been a favorite with royals Princess Diana, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

Two outfits weren’t enough for Rihanna at the Oscars. After stepping out in a sheer black and leather Alaïa dress on the red carpet and wearing an embellished black Maison Margiela bra with print pants on stage during her performance, Rihanna switched into a third show-stopping number: a lime green bustier and skirt from Bottega Veneta with a shearling stole set and gloves. Fans shared a look of the ensemble in the audience, as Rihanna joined her boyfriend A$AP Rocky to watch the rest of the show after her performance.

Rocky, of course, was in a white suit next to her during the ceremony. He received some fan attention for his enthusiastic standing ovation for Rihanna after her performance.

Rihanna is expecting the couple’s second child. In a recent interview with British Vogue, she spoke glowingly about Rocky’s relationship with their firstborn, their son whose name they haven’t shared publicly yet. “I’m just sitting on the sidelines when they’re together. I’m literally the girl trying to get into the boys club, waiting for my turn,” she said. “He is obsessed with his father. And I’m like: ‘Didn’t I give birth to you? What is going on?’ Their connection is undeniable. The second Rocky makes eye contact with him he is on fire. The whole thing they say about sons and moms, it’s a myth. Sons and fathers is crazy. I realized that the validation that you really need as a boy is from your father.”

  • Wakanda Forever: Rihanna releases Lift Me Up from Black Panther

Rihanna has released her first solo single in six years, a song from the upcoming Black Panther sequel’s soundtrack.

Lift Me Up was released on Friday, following the singer’s social media tease of her return to music earlier this week.

The song will be featured in Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is due out in November.

Director Ryan Coogler said Rihanna’s involvement in the project was to honour the late actor Chadwick Boseman.

“Honestly, I think it was Chad,” he said. “A lot of improbable things needed to happen for it to come through and Rihanna was very clear that she did that for him.”

Boseman starred in the first Black Panther film and also appeared in Da 5 Bloods, 21 Bridges, and the James Brown biopic Get On Up.

He died in 2020, four years after being diagnosed with colon cancer. Last year, Boseman was posthumously nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Coogler added: “We knew [Rihanna] was at a point in her life as well where she was focusing on different things – focused on business, motherhood, which is a big theme in our film. We were holding out hope that maybe it could work out and boy did it for this song.”

Lift Me Up has been co-written by Rihanna, Coogler, and Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, who has previously worked with Drake, Justin Bieber, Future, Wizkid, Beyonce, and Khalid.

The song is produced and co-written by Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson, who scored the first Black Panther film as well as Creed, Venom, and Tenet.

It is downtempo but uplifting and sees Rihanna’s distinctive vocals projected over a smooth accompaniment of delicate keys and strings. The singer is accompanied by a subtle backing choir as the atmospheric song builds to its climax.

She sings: “Lift me up, hold me down, keep me close, safe and sound / Hold me when you go to sleep, keep me in the warmth of your love when you depart, keep me safe and sound.”

Fans warmly welcomed the release of the single on social media, with many joking via a string of memes that the song was making them levitate, but others described it as a “disappointing” comeback and “definitely a movie soundtrack song”.

Lift Me Up is the first solo single from Rihanna since the release of her album Anti in 2016.

Since then, she has collaborated with other artists such as PartyNextDoor and N.E.R.D. and appeared on the hugely successful Wild Thoughts alongside DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller.

But the singer has largely stayed quiet on the music front in recent years, as she focused on expanding her fashion, lingerie, skincare, and cosmetics brand Fenty, as well as recently having a baby boy with rapper A$AP Rocky.

She also appeared opposite Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett in 2018’s film Ocean’s 8, an all-female reboot of the Ocean’s 11 franchise.

Rihanna will headline the prestigious half-time show at February’s Super Bowl in Arizona, her first live performance in over five years.

Her involvement in Wakanda Forever will increase fans’ anticipation for the sequel to Black Panther, which was a huge box office success and scored a best picture nomination at the Oscars.

The movie, released on 11 November, will see stars including Letitia Wright and Lupita Nyong’o reprise their roles as the kingdom of Wakanda fights to protect itself from invading forces in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.

  • Rapper A$AP Rocky denies shooting charges

Rapper A$AP Rocky has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault with a firearm in connection with a shooting in Hollywood last November.

The star, real name Rakim Mayers, is alleged to have pointed the gun at a former friend during an argument.

Prosecutors say he later fired the weapon twice in the direction of the victim, who sustained a minor injury.

The 33-year-old, who has had two US number one albums, could face up to nine years in prison if found guilty.

The rapper, who had a baby with singer Rihanna in May, appeared in court in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The star was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport in April, as he returned from a holiday with Rihanna. He was released three hours later – after posting bail of $550,000 (£421,000).

Terell Ephron, who is part of the A$AP Mob hip-hop collective, identified himself as the victim and took legal action against his former friend last week – alleging assault and battery, negligence and emotional distress.

Mr Ephron, known as A$AP Relli, alleged that Mr Mayers had “lured” him to an obscure location in Hollywood to discuss a disagreement.

The lawsuit claims that, after a verbal altercation, Mr Mayers “pulled out a handgun and purposefully pointed it in the direction of [Mr Ephron] and fired multiple shots”.

Mr Ephron was “struck by bullet projectile/fragments” in his left hand and required medical attention, according to the court papers. He is seeking at least $25,000 (£20,750) in damages.

At Wednesday’s hearing, judge Victoria B Wilson put a restraining order in place, ordering Mr Mayers to stay 100 yards (91m) away from Mr Ephron at all times, and set a preliminary trial date of 2 November.

Mr Mayers was previously given a two-year suspended sentence for his role in a brawl in Stockholm in August 2019.

As A$AP Rocky, he was one of the biggest breakout stars of the 2010s, earning eight platinum singles in the US, including Wild For The Night, Everyday, LSD and A$AP Forever.

He rose to fame after being championed by Drake, and has worked with artists including Alicia Keys, Lana Del Rey, Skepta, Selena Gomez and Kendrick Lamar.

Last year, he confirmed he was in a relationship with Rihanna, calling her the “love of my life” and “the one”.

  • A$AP Rapper Rocky is accused of shooting in Hollywood

A$AP Rocky, a rapper, has been accused of assault with a handgun in relation to a shooting that occurred in Hollywood the previous year.

The actor, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is accused of pointing the gun after an argument with a former buddy in November.

He allegedly fired the handgun twice more after that, striking the victim, who was just slightly hurt.

If found guilty, the 33-year-old, who has had two US number one albums, could spend up to nine years behind bars.

The rapper, who had a baby with singer Rihanna in May, is due to appear in court on Wednesday to answer two charges of assault with a semi-automatic firearm with allegations of personally using a firearm.

His lawyer had no immediate comment on the charges.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said: “Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences, not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.

“My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”
