A former Assistant Manager at Chicken Inn and Pizza Inn in Accra Mall, s Acquah, has been sentenced to five years in prison with hard labor for embezzling GHC19,904 from his employers.

The judgment was delivered by Judge Akosua Anokyewaa Adjapong at the Achimota Circuit Court, as reported by Dailyguidenetwork.com.

According to the prosecution, Acquah unlawfully accessed the vault room where funds from December 25 and 26, 2023, were stored during the Christmas holidays.

On December 27, 2023, at approximately 4:23 am, Acquah allegedly stole GHC19,904. This theft was captured on CCTV footage, confirming his involvement upon review.

After the incident, Acquah fled to Cape Coast to evade arrest. Unable to locate him, Chicken Inn and Pizza Inn management reported the case to the Airport Police Station, leading to his eventual arrest.

During the initial court hearing on June 10, 2024, Acquah, without legal representation, pleaded not guilty to theft under Sections 123(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29).

A family member disclosed in court that Acquah had spent a significant portion of his salary on gambling and succumbed to temptation when the opportunity to steal arose.

  • Trinity – Samuel Whyte celebrates the success of the premiere of his film despite the low publicity

A filmmaker, Samuel Whyte Agyapong, thanked Ghanaians on Thursday at the satisfying premiere of the film “Trinity,” in which he had a part.

Despite receiving relatively little publicity, the film had a great opening weekend at the Silverbird Cinemas compared to other high-profile Ghanaian films. The director thought it was a show that deserved commendation.

Samuel Whyte stated he was grateful for the success of the film “Trinity” since this showed that the risk he and the entire team took was worthwhile after working on what he characterized as an unexpected set in 2019.

“My movie which I coordinated called ‘Trinity’ did so well. The numbers were so impressive. Thanks for the love and thanks for always supporting us. I’m so glad because ‘shooting’ at Konkomba came with a lot of pressure and risk.

One time when we were filming, a resident of Konkomba just came on set, seized our camera, and wanted us to pay some money before we got it back. It was stressful but, also a unique experience,” he said.

As a well-known production coordinator in the film community in Ghana, Samuel Whyte said working on the movie ‘Trinity’ was one of the biggest challenges in his career. “In fact, coordinating such a crowd in such an area was big but, also fun.

Imagine asking a group of macho men in the ghetto who don’t know you to keep quiet because you are about to film a scene. In short, it was a stressful project but, I don’t regret the experience because, overall, it was worth it,” he explained.

Konkomba was regarded as one of the most dangerous slums in Accra with lawlessness and all sorts of social vices occurring. At a point, it was labeled as a hideout for criminals. But currently, it has been demolished as the Government of Ghana plans to erect new buildings on the premises.

The movie ‘Trinity’ highlights the kind of life many lived in the popular ghetto ‘Konkomba’ with a captivating story of betrayal, murder, and ambition. The movie featured popular actors namely Jessica Williams, Omar Krupp, Kofi Adjorlolo, Kalsoume Sinare, and other natives of Konkomba. It premiered with an impressive turnout last week Saturday at the Silverbird Cinemas inside the Accra Mall.

Still on the victory lane, on Saturday in Kumasi at the ‘Media and Entrepreneurship Prominence Awards‘, Samuel Whyte won the award for Best Production Coordinator of the Year. This is another achievement the young and passionate filmmaker has added to his collection of awards.

  • Thick smoke from burning activities causing trouble at Accra Mall

Drivers plying the Accra-Tema motorway, particularly, the route around the Accra Mall are struggling to pave their way through massive smoke that has engulfed the stretch as a result of burning activities.

Clouds of smoke, as captured in an amateur video, filled the area, making vision quite difficult for drivers on the route. Little traffic built up as a result of the situation as motorists tried to pave their way out.

Accra Mall to be shut temporarily Thursday

It is still unclear yet what necessitated the burning of the weeds in that area.

Meanwhile, police officers in the area are going about their duties, directing traffic and ensuring order on the route.

This raises questions about how much progress the country has made as far as education on pollution is concerned, considering such an open area with human activities is being polluted.
