The first lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, has said that she ordered for bogus news postings that emerged on her social media profiles to be deleted.
Earlier on Tuesday the Central Bank of Nigeria issued a warning about a fake press release that was shared by her accounts with incorrect information about the phasing out of old naira notes.
Mrs Buhari said in an Instagram post that this was not the first time her accounts had been tampered with:
After the arrest of three suspects in place of a woman thought to be living in Saudi Arabia, the Nigeria Police Force has stepped up its campaign against Aisha Buhari’s detractors.
Detectives from the Force Intelligence Bureau, FIB, at the force headquarters tracked the trio and arrested them over their alleged “contact” with the principal suspect.
The newly arrested suspects are Salisu Isyaku, Salisu Habib and Zubairu Ahmed in lieu of a female suspect, Kaltim Ahmed, according to Daily Nigerian report.
It was gathered that the three “suspects” were arrested on December 14, 2022 and detained in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, without access to their families and lawyers.
Ms Ahmed, a fiery irredentist who criticises Fulani dominance of Hausa in audio messages shared on Whatsapp and other social media platforms had lambasted Mrs Buhari for ordering the arrest and participating in the brutalisation of a final-year student.
The Hausa nationalist said in the audio posted on the YouTube channel @jarumhausatv that the first lady’s grandparents were itinerant foreigners wandering in bushes, daring the first lady to arrest her.
“Your husband deceived us, lying and crying. It is good that we elected him, and his election had exposed all the Fulanis in Nigeria.
“Your government is silent about killing of Hausa people by Fulani. The southerners have rained all manner of abuses against you, but you are silent. Now you are here intimidating Northerners,” she said in the audio.
It was further gathered that detectives from the Force Intelligence Bureau, FIB, at the force headquarters tracked the trio and arrested them over their alleged “contact” with the principal suspect.
A security source at the presidency said one of the suspects, Salisu Isyaku, is a bureau de change operator, who was arrested for exchanging Saudi riyals to naira for the principal suspect.
“Initially, he was charged with terrorism financing but later changed to cyber stalking when the police realised that the transaction between them was not up to N500,000.
“The police are under intense pressure from Madam [first lady] to deal with the suspects. She wanted the suspects to be charged. Even the release of Dutse university student was not done with her consent, and she was angry with the IGP (the Inspector-General of Police] over withdrawal of charges against the boy,” the source added.
Spokesman for the Nigerian police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to an inquiry on the matter.
SaharaReporters had reported In November last year, how the Nigeria police arrested a final-year student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Mohammed and one Zainab Kazeem, a former aide to the first lady, Aisha Buhari.
While the student was arrested for criticising the first lady’s size that ballooned recently, the former aide was arrested for allegedly getting access to the First Lady’s Instagram account and deleting her posts.
The duo was later released and charged dropped against them, following widespread outcry over their illegal arrest, detention and torture.
A Nigerian university student arrested and detained for more than two weeks after he allegedly defamed President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife on Twitter has apologised to the first lady.
Aminu Adamu Mohammed was released on Friday after authorities dropped the charges on ”compassionate grounds.”.
Mr Mohammed denied spreading ”false” information during a court appearance.
He denied defaming Aisha Buhari in a tweet suggesting she had misused public money to her satisfaction.
But in a series of tweets and video messages over the weekend, the 24-year-old undergraduate apologised to Mrs Buhari for the initial tweet.
”It was never my intention to hurt your feelings” he said, promising to ”change for the better.”
Mr Mohammed also thanked Mrs Buhari for forgiving him, describing her as ”our mother.”
He described his experience as ”the darkest hours of my life.”
Amnesty International said Aminu Adamu Mohammed was subjected to “torture” after his arrest
He did not give details but he expressed his ”heartfelt gratitude” to those who showed him support saying his case should serve as a ”lesson to all of us”.
His apology to Mrs Buhari has sparked controversy on social media in Nigeria with many users saying the first lady should apologise to him instead because of the way he was treated.
But there are some who say his apology was right in order to resolve the dispute.
The arrest and the subsequent charge against the student had sparked outrage in Nigeria with many social media users and rights campaigners calling for his immediate release.
On Thursday, Amnesty International said Mr Mohammed was subjected to “torture” and other forms of “ill-treatment” after his arrest, calling it a “deeply repressive act” that “brazenly violates his human rights”. Nigerian authorities have not yet commented on these allegations.
Mr Mohammed is studying environmental management at the Federal University in Dutse, in the northern state of Jigawa, and is due to start his final exams on Monday.
A Nigerian student who was arrested for allegedly accusing the first lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, of squandering public funds in a tweet has had all charges against him dropped.
Aminu Adamu was charged by the government with spreading “false” information and defamation, which he vigorously rejected.
The prosecution withdrew the accusation at a high court in Abuja on Friday, according to his attorney Chijioke Kingsley Agu, who spoke to the BBC.
Mr Agu said his client has been discharged on “compassionate grounds” and that they were “in the process of his release” on Friday evening.
The 24-year-old undergraduate’s detention and subsequent charge had caused outcry in Nigeria, with many social media users and advocates for human rights demanding his immediate release.

Aminu Adamu, an undergraduate of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State who was detained by security officials over a post on Twitter alleging that the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, “was feeding fat on poor people’s money,” has been remanded at Suleja Prison in Niger State.
While addressing press men, his lawyer, CK Agu said the student was charged to a court in Abuja.

“Even in the court session yesterday, we notified the judge about the efforts made to have him released on bail, but we did not receive any reply from the police. We applied to the court to release the student on bail on health grounds and the fact that he will sit for the exam on 5, December. The court has ordered the police to provide the bail application before it for consideration between Tuesday and Wednesday,” Agu was quoted to have said.
Earlier, the Executive Director, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, Emmanuel Onwubiko, said Aminu’s arrest showed the level of rot in Nigeria’s security system.
He said, “It is a very sad development. Whether it was the DSS or police that arrested the guy, it shows that the government has continued to deploy security assets to chase after gossip. They go to websites and social media in search of those gossiping about the President, his wife and his children, to arrest them.”
The Office of the First Lady did not respond to inquiries at the time of filing the report.
Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari has been rushed to an Abuja hospital after suffering a leg fracture at the weekend.
According to DAILY NIGERIAN, sources said Aisha “fell down and suffered a leg fracture” but details of the incident leading to the injury were sketchy at the time of filing of the report. The name of the hospital where she was taken to was also not disclosed.
According to the report, the first lady was expected to host a wedding reception in honour of Bilkisu Rimi, the daughter of Nigerian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohammed Rimi, on Sunday night at the Presidential Villa.
The Office of the First Lady did not respond to inquiries at the time of filing the report.
In October, Aisha tendered an apology to Nigerians over the performance of her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress in government.
Aisha, however, carefully failed to admit that her husband’s administration had been a failure.
Aisha made the apology during an exclusive interview with BBC Pidgin, saying that her reason for apologising to Nigerians was because Buhari’s administration might have not performed to the satisfaction and expectations of Nigerians.
In the interview monitored by SaharaReporters, the First Lady said Nigerians had high expectations from the Buhari government but it was possible that the government fell short of the expectations, hence, her apologies.
She said, “The expectation on us was too high. People were expecting so much from us, and maybe after seven years, we haven’t done to their expectations. Only God knows what is in somebody’s mind or as a human being, you cannot say that you are right or we have done what we should do.
“The government has really tried. The administration has done its best but maybe it is still not the best for others. To them, they have done their best, only God knows, so we must apologise to them, to Nigerians; whether we have made up their expectations or not.”
Aisha Buhari, the wife of Nigeria’s president, has said “we must apologise to Nigerians” as her time as first lady draws to an end.
Speaking to BBC News Pidgin, she said:

Mrs Buhari did not clarify in which areas she thinks the Nigerian government could have done a better job.
But President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has faced criticism for failing to bring Islamist violence and armed gangs under control, failing to end corruption and deliver more jobs, as well carrying out brutal crackdowns on citizen protest movements such as #EndSARS two years ago.
“I’m not into government activities. My own is to support them, either on health or education. I don’t go into details of what they do,” the first lady told the BBC.
“My office, I run it like an NGO – just to receive people.”
As President Buhari prepares to step down after two terms in office, Nigerians are guaranteed a new president when they go to the polls in February next year.
As the Muhammadu Buhariadministration draws to a close, Aisha Buhari, the first lady of Nigeria, has pleaded with people to pardon her husband for failing to advance the country’s economy during his nearly eight years in power.
Aisha Buhari made the prayer of forgiveness at a special Juma’at service and public lecture to celebrate the nation’s 62nd independence anniversary, held at the National Mosque Conference Hall in Abuja on Friday. The event was themed: ‘Shura: The Islamic Foundation of True Democracy.
“Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies, and gentlemen, as you may be aware that this government is making its exit and perhaps witnessing the last anniversary of the regime, I ask Nigerians to pray for a successful election and transition programme,” urged Mrs. Buhari.
“The regime might not have been a perfect one,but I want to seize this opportunity to seek forgiveness from the Ulamas and Nigerians in general. We all need to work together to achieve a better Nigeria,” she added.
The First Lady acknowledged that the naira’s helpless fall in her husband’s tenure had subjected many citizens to untold hardship. The policies of Godwin Emefiele appointed by Mr. Buhari to man the nation’s apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria, had yet to positively impact the economy.
“Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, it is also noticeable that our Naira is being evaluated and the foreign exchange rate has affected our economy causing a lot of hardship and difficulties in terms of education, health, and other day-to-day activities of our citizens.”
She commended the efforts of security operatives in fighting terrorists and bandits, she prayed “for more successes in their operations,”
“I’m particularly happy that our security agents have stood up to the challenges of security more than ever before. And at the moment, their efforts have been pushing the effects of banditry, kidnapping, and many other ills in society.
“I commend the efforts of our gallant security men and women.”
Nigerians have referred to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, as “insensitive” following a post she shared on social media.
According to reports, the First Lady posted pictures of herself at her daughter-in-graduation law’s in the United Kingdom.
Aisha Buharicongratulated her daughter-in-law Zahra on receiving First Class Honors in Architectural Science on her verified Instagram page.
She wrote; “Congratulations to Mrs. Zahra B Buhari on your graduation with First Class Honors in Architectural Science. Wishing you all the best!”
Following the ongoing ASUU strike in Nigeria, which has lasted more than nine months, the images have since drawn a number of criticisms from citizens of that nation.
Reacting to her post, many took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
@PoojaMedia: ASUU was on strike for over 9 months & Aisha Buhari still posted their daughter’s graduation in the UK.
The height of taking citizens for granted.
So insensitive. Na wa
@henryshield: Thousands of students are at home because our schools are shut, but 1st Lady Aisha Buhari is sharing pictures of her graduating family member. This isn’t about being insensitive, Aisha has drunk a full dose of the visible madness that has disconnected Asorock from the people.
@JamiluSufi: Dear H.E Aisha Buhari, your husband has achieved everything failure can offer, name them… Destruction of Nigerian Educational System…
Musa Ahmed: Aisha Buhari’s tweet on her daughter-in-law’s graduation ceremony at a time when the public Universities are on strike is insensitive and very unfortunate.
Unfortunately Aisha buhari has a very strong heart for celebrating her daughter’s graduation publically amid ASUU strike while the poor children sit at home without studying for 7 months and neither her nor her husband has shows his anger, Nigerian students are disappointed in U. pic.twitter.com/BJW5e2R4nJ
