Bawumia can’t swerve responsibility for economic mess – NDC

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Special Aide to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is not mincing words in response to attempts by the governing New Patriotic Party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his team, to distance the second gentleman of the land from the current economic challenges facing the country.

Mogtari contends that Dr. Bawumia, as a significant figure in the Akufo-Addo administration, is accountable for the economic mismanagement issues.

In a social media post, she underscored that Ghanaians are well aware of the unfavorable conditions under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led administration, making it impossible for the Vice President to absolve himself from blame.

With Dr. Bawumia leading the NPP as its flagbearer in the upcoming elections, Mogtari emphasized that he has been portrayed as an economic messiah and the head of the Akufo-Addo government’s economic management team since assuming the role of Vice President in 2017.

Mogtari urged Ghanaians to perceive the vice president in conjunction with his president, asserting that he offers nothing different to the citizens.

This statement from Mogtari signals a robust response to the attempts to dissociate Dr. Bawumia from the economic challenges, emphasizing the importance of holding him accountable for the state of the country’s economy.

“We should all pay close attention to the Nana Addo/Bawumia union and how it operates. This union may be willing to sacrifice the ‘marriage’ for political gain and may try to deceive us by presenting a separation of the union just as a matter of convenience,” she wrote on X.

“Just like the attempt to discredit the #24HourEconomy, any effort to decouple the union will fail because we know that this union, built on lies, will do anything for power, even if it means a complete dissolution of the union.”

You forget Ghanaians yet wish ‘rich’ King Charles your sympathy – Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Renowned activist and leader of the #FixTheCountry and #OccupyJulorbiHouse movements, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has criticized President Akufo-Addo for prioritizing well wishes to King Charles III over addressing the ongoing challenges faced by Ghanaians.

The rebuke from Barker-Vormawor comes in the aftermath of a tragic road crash that occurred on Monday, February 5, 2024, involving a Tipper Truck and a mini-bus around the China Mall stretch of the Amasaman-Nsawam road.

Eyewitnesses reported that the mini-bus, slowing down due to a pothole, was struck from behind by the Tipper Truck, resulting in a devastating accident. Seven lives were lost, and six others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the heartbreaking incident.

Expressing his discontent in an X post, Barker-Vormawor questioned the president’s priorities, emphasizing that the attention given to King Charles II raises concerns about the government’s responsiveness to the immediate concerns of its citizens during times of crisis.

President Akufo-Addo on Monday, February 5, 2024, extended well wishes to the British Royal family following the announcement that King Charles is set to undergo treatment for cancer.

The president’s message of goodwill was formally conveyed in a statement, part of which read:

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

“On behalf of the people and Government of Ghana, and on behalf of my wife Rebecca, the First Lady, I send best wishes to His Royal Majesty, King Charles III, King of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth, as he undergoes treatment for cancer.

“In these difficult times, our thoughts and prayers are with the British Monarch, his wife, Queen Camilla and the entire British Royal Family, and I join the global community in wishing him strength, courage, and a swift and complete recovery,” it concluded.

The 2024 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has once again criticized the state of Ghana’s economy under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mahama asserted that President Akufo-Addo did not inherit a problematic situation, attributing the current challenges to what he described as the “clueless economic management team and finance minister” of the current administration.

Encouraging Ghanaians to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December general elections, Mahama highlighted the achievements of his administration before the NPP took office in 2016.

Expressing disappointment that the Akufo-Addo-led administration continued to blame his previous government for their failures, Mahama defended his term, stating that the state of the economy during his leadership was far better than the current situation under the Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

Mahama stated, “You didn’t inherit a mess; it is your clueless economic management team and finance minister that created the mess we are experiencing today.”

Emphasizing his economic successes, Mahama positioned himself as the most qualified candidate for leading the nation after the December general elections.

He urged Ghanaians to reject what he considers the NPP’s rhetoric, emphasizing that the country has not made substantial progress as recently portrayed.

Akufo-Addo revokes appointments of 24 municipal and district chief executives

President Nana Addo-Dankwa, Akufo-Addo has taken a decisive step by revoking the appointments of 24 municipal and district chief executive (MDCEs) officers.

This significant move aligns with Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and section 20 (3) b of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936).

The President communicated his decision in a letter addressed to the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, who also serves as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Okere in the Eastern Region. The letter, sent last Friday, instructed Minister Botwe to nominate replacements under separate cover.

This development marks a notable shift in leadership within various municipal and district assemblies across the country. The revocation of appointments signals the President’s commitment to ensuring effective governance and administrative efficiency at the local level.

With the revocation of these appointments, there arises an opportunity for new leadership to step in and drive development initiatives within their respective jurisdictions. The President’s directive to nominate replacements underscores the importance of selecting competent individuals who can effectively serve their communities.

As the process of nominating replacements unfolds, stakeholders will be keenly observing the selection criteria and the caliber of leaders chosen to fill these crucial roles. The President’s decision reflects a proactive approach towards governance, aimed at fostering progress and accountability in local governance structures.

The declaration lacked an explanation for the suspension of the affected MDCEs, leaving the rationale undisclosed.

Among the MDCEs affected by the President’s directive are Martina Appiah Nyantakyi of Ahafo Ano North, Nii Larteh Ollenu of Amansie West, Daniel Owuredu of Nkoranza South, Alhaji Abdulai Adams of Pru East, and Gmasombe Jerome Kofi Gyimah of Sene East.

In a separate letter issued and signed by the President last Saturday, nominations were made to fill the vacancies created by the suspension. The letter stated, “In accordance with my letter dated February 2, 2024, and in accordance with article 243 of the Constitution, I have made the following nominations for the office of chief executives of the following municipal and district assemblies, pending their approval by their respective assemblies.”

The individuals nominated to replace the affected MDCEs include Prince Dormaa Amoah for Ahafo Ano North, Oscar Asare Andoh for Amansie West, Dr. Amoateng Augustine Kwasi for Nkoranza South, Mohammed Haruna for Pru East, Samson Gbolu for Sene East, and Moses Arhinful for Awutu Senya West, Mavis Opokua Akonnor(A).

The flagbearer of the Butterfly Movement, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has faced an unexpected setback when he arrived at Despite Media, owners of Peace FM, for a scheduled appearance on the Monday morning show.

Despite believing he was set to be interviewed by Kwami Sefa Kayi, Alan Kyerematen found himself stranded at the media company’s forecourt as they denied any prior agreement for his appearance.

Contrary to Chief Alan’s understanding, Despite Media did not promote or announce his supposed appearance on the show through their social media platforms.

On air, Sefa Kayi revealed the failed plan, highlighting that there was no arrangement for Alan to be on the Kokrokoo show that morning.

Investigations uncovered that the flyer announcing his appearance was not authorized or produced by Despite Media but by Team Alan without the media company’s knowledge or consent.

The public now awaits Ernest Koranteng, an aide to Chief Alan, to provide clarity on the entire story.

This incident raises concerns about the credibility of Chief Alan’s team and their communication with the media.

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted a Police Chief Inspector, Benjamine Doe Kuwornu, stationed in the Central Region for misconducting himself in a video that has been sighted by the Police Administration.

The police, in their statement, failed to state the context of the misconduct, but a video shared by Graphic Online has provided the missing link.

Chief Inspector Kuwornu in the video believed to have been sighted by the Police administration voiced sharp criticism against President Akufo-Addo, labeling him as “incompetent” and accusing him of squandering Ghana’s resources.

His interdiction, the police said, is to allow for a thorough investigation into his conduct in line with Police Service Regulations.

Akufo-Addo has introduced over 50 taxes since he came into power – Seth Terkper

Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has asserted that the current tax regime in Ghana represents the most severe and punitive in the nation’s history.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Akufo-Addo of introducing over 50 new taxes since 2017.

In an interview on Citi News on Monday, Mr. Terkper emphasized that the country’s current tax rates are excessively high. He expressed concerns that such high rates could potentially drive individuals to seek ways to evade these taxes.

“I think we are seeing the worst of the tax system… It is the most punitive and worst tax structure that we have had. And as with every tax that is punitive, you will end up not collecting, or generating as much revenue as possible,” he said.

He further underscored that “But more importantly, when you begin to introduce punitive taxes, taxpayers find ways and means of evading and avoiding the tax. So if you have a simplified tax regime it is better and compliance increases. And the evidence is that if you look at our tax-to-GDP ratio well until recently as GRA is claiming, the highest point at which revenue was collected was 2015 per the percentage of GDP, not nominal terms.”

This continuous imposition of taxes has ignited public outrage in Ghana. Among the most recent taxes are the Value Added Tax (VAT) on residential electricity usage and the Emissions levy.

Akufo-Addo got sick MPs to leave Germany to pass Emissions levy – Dr Kwabena Donkor claims

Former Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor is said to have alleged that some Members of Parliament belonging to the Majority Group were forced to fly into the country to pass the Emissions Levy despite their ill health.

In a post on X, GHOne quoted Dr Kwabena Donkor as to have said “People on medical treatment in Germany were flown back to vote and pass the Emission Levy.”

Information on the identities of the said legislators and their health status was not provided.

In December 2023, Parliament passed the Emissions Levy Bill, 2023, as a step towards decreasing Ghana’s Carbon Dioxide Emissions and generating additional domestic revenue for the government.

The members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament voiced concerns regarding the potential effects of the Levy on ordinary Ghanaians and its potential impact on the cost of doing business within the country.

NDC Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, highlighted that the Emissions Levy would entail taxing every vehicle utilizing internal combustion engines, including commercial motorbikes (okada), tricycles (pragyia), commercial taxis, ride-hailing services, commercial buses (trotro), and articulated trucks.

He said the Minority would not support the Bill and expressed the hope that the Government would listen and stop imposing taxes on the public.

However, had the number need to form a quorum and have the levy passed into law.

Effective February 1, motor vehicles, buses, and coaches up to 3000 cubic centimetres are required to pay GH₵150 per annum in line with the implementation of the Emissions Levy Act, 2023 (Act 1112).

The levy is being imposed on carbon dioxide equivalent emissions specifically targeting internal combustion engine vehicles.

Also, motor vehicles, buses, and coaches above 3000 cubic centimetres, cargo trucks, and articulated trucks are required to pay GH₵300 per annum whereas motor riders and tricycle riders will pay the government an amount of GHC75 annually as part of their responsibilities to the state.

Per reports, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is facing technical challenges in the collection of the levy.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have called on the government to scrap the levy.

Highest inflation, haircut on people’s investment, others, makes Akufo-Addo’s govt worse than Mahama’s – Jinapor

Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Jinapor, has staunchly defended the previous John Mahama administration, arguing that it outperformed the current Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.

In his capacity as the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, Jinapor emphasized the unprecedented hardships faced by Ghanaians under the current regime, describing them as unparalleled in the nation’s history.

Pointing to rising taxes, increasing living expenses, and investor losses as clear indicators, Jinapor insisted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could not refute his assertions.

During an appearance on Metro TV on Tuesday, February 6, the former Deputy Power Minister urged Ghanaians to hold the NPP accountable in the upcoming December polls.

Jinapor dismissed efforts by the NPP and its supporters to absolve Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the government’s shortcomings, stating that such attempts were futile.

“Mahama administration is 10 times better than this administration and the facts are there to support it. Highest inflation, haircut on people’s investment, high cost of living and all the Ghanaian people are witnessing under this incompetent Akufo-Addo are facts,” he said.

December polls likely the reason Akufo-Addo sacked 24 DCEs – Local Government Expert

Local Government Expert, Dr. Frederick Oduro, has suggested that President Akufo-Addo’s decision to dismiss twenty-four District Chief Executives (DCEs) is likely linked to the upcoming general elections.

While the president is not obligated to provide reasons for these decisions, Dr. Oduro speculates that such moves may have been made in consultation with party leadership.

President Akufo-Addo removed the appointments of DCEs, including Isaac Kwadwo Boabeng of Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumua of Adentan, in accordance with constitutional and legislative provisions.

“I write to inform you that I have revoked the appointment of the following as District Chief Executives.

“I respectfully request that you give immediate effect to my directive. I will, under a separate cover, write to you to nominate their replacement.”

Dr. Oduro, speaking on TV3’s Weekend Central, stated, “It is almost certainly related to the upcoming general elections in November and December.”

He suggested that, based on the ongoing political landscape, the dismissals might be connected to certain DCEs not supporting the president’s favored candidates in parliamentary primaries.

Dr. Oduro emphasized that the president, though not obliged to disclose reasons, likely made these decisions with some level of consultation within the NPP party, as indicated by statements from a former General Secretary.

Ultimately, however, the prerogative for such appointments lies with the president.

“It is almost certainly related to the upcoming general elections.

“Ultimately I believe that the decision by the president to revoke these appointments has so much to do with the upcoming general elections in November and December.

“The interesting part is that the president is under no obligation to give reasons for his appointment, neither is he required to give reasons for revocation of appointment.

So at this point, we can only look at what is happening in the system and based on that assessment it will not be far-fetched to include that certain MMDCEs chose not to support the president’s favorites [in the parliamentary primaries]. However, I don’t think the president will take these decisions without some level of consultation within the NPP as a party because if you have a whole former General Secretary to come out to talk about the fact that some people feel tired and they must be relieved, it presupposes that the party itself might have had a hand in those who should stay and those who should leave. But of course the prerogative lies with the president.”

During his “Building the Ghana we want together” tour at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region, former President John Dramani Mahama asked a question that got all gathered for a community engagement laughing their hearts out.

He posed the question after an individual interrupted his speech that was towards criticising the incumbent government for its failures.

“The president on several occasions has said things……” and he immediately asked “Who said Jack Toronto?”.

“Don’t put words in my mouth,” the NDC flagbearer jokingly said as he joined the crowd laughing in the hilarious moment.

The term “Jack Toronto” was once used by Mahama in reference to President Akufo-Addo in 2018 ahead of the 2020 general elections.

Six years ago, former President Mahama named President Akufo-Addo Jack Toronto due to the ambitious plans he had.

According to Mahama, those dreams could not be realised in just 3 years in office.

He mocked: “Jack Toronto just came to power and decided to make it 3 years. Excuse me to say, jack is a movie, I’m not trying to ridicule him, but I’m talking about someone who thinks he has strength and wants to execute this in 3 years. But I know that Ghanaians are looking back to the NDC for hope for a turn-around.

According to these women, since the election of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, their children residing and working in Accra have faced difficulties due to what they perceive as the President’s “bad leadership.”

The women claimed that their sons in the capital consistently complain about issues such as “bad business, job losses, and tribal victimization.”

The sentiments were shared by residents of Vakpo Godzi, which is incidentally the hometown of ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) Benjamin Agordzor, who was detained but later acquitted.

One resident mentioned that the Akufo-Addo government’s perceived poor performance has impacted their lives, as their sons, who previously sent them mobile money, now only ask for prayers due to challenges they face in Accra, Aflao, and Kumasi.

Mahama pledges to reverse university names changed by Akufo-Addo

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has declared his intention to reverse the names assigned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to certain public universities in Ghana if he is re-elected in the 2024 polls.

President Akufo-Addo, upon assuming office, renamed several public universities.

Notably, the University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa campus was renamed after SD Dombo [Simon Diedong Dombo], a United Party tradition politician, and is now known as Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in the Upper West Region, and the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in the Upper East Region.

In 2018, the President also renamed the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) to the George Grant University of Mines and Technology.

Addressing supporters in the Upper East Region, John Dramani Mahama criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for renaming universities established by the NDC government after their heroes. He questioned the logic behind renaming existing universities when the NPP government has not initiated the construction of any new universities.

Mahama emphasized the importance of naming libraries, hostels, and administration blocks after individuals, asserting that the names of public universities should align with their core mandates.

“We are known as nation builders because of the number of schools we have built. Every public university was initiated and built by us. All the NPP knows how to do is name universities that people have built. After NDC builds a university, then they will give it the name of one of their heroes or people. We are going to rename the universities. Ghana has many heroes, and not only the heroes of the NPP tradition.

He emphasized, “We can name an administration block, hostel, and library after somebody. But the university must reflect its core mandate. And so we will restore the original names, and the names that they have given them will be given to significant infrastructure in the universities. And we will add other people and name the infrastructure in the universities after them. But if the university is the University for Development Studies, that is its core mandate. It will be called the University for Development Studies.”

Akufo-Addo to reshuffle ministers soon – Reports

Sources say President Akufo-Addo is gearing up for significant changes in his ministerial appointments, responding to months of public demands.

The impending reshuffle, anticipated to be substantial, was strategically delayed to allow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conclude its presidential and parliamentary primaries. This delay aimed to shield affected ministers from potential emotional burdens associated with defeat while simultaneously adapting to new roles.

The reshuffle, initially scheduled for December, was rescheduled to February after the NPP’s internal elections to prevent defeated candidates from attributing their loss to the president. The careful consideration of the timing underscores President Akufo-Addo’s sensitivity to the needs and expectations of his ministers, emphasizing his commitment to maintaining a harmonious and efficient government.

Numerous Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are reportedly marked for removal in a bid to revitalize the system. President Akufo-Addo’s approach demonstrates a thoughtful leadership style, ensuring that the reshuffling process aligns with the well-being and electoral aspirations of his cabinet members.

The delay in announcing ministerial changes further illustrates the president’s dedication to fair and considerate leadership. Allowing candidates to concentrate on securing party nominations ensures that reshuffled ministers can approach their new roles with clarity and renewed vigor.

As President Akufo-Addo finalizes plans for this extensive reshuffle, the Ghanaian public awaits the official announcement, expecting these changes to inject new perspectives, fresh expertise, and heightened efficiency into various ministries. The president’s commitment to public demand and consideration for ministers’ electioneering efforts underscores his dedication to good governance and responsive leadership.

While the impact of these impending changes on the government’s performance remains to be seen, Ghanaians can trust that President Akufo-Addo’s decisions stem from a genuine desire to continuously improve and strengthen his administration.

They quoted the wrong law to sack 24 DCEs, stop embarrassing Akufo-Addo – Dafeamekpor

Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has alleged lack of due diligence on the part of the Office of the President over the dismissal of some 24 District Chief Executives.

President Akufo-Addo has revoked the appointment of 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) with immediate effect in accordance with Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014, (Act 936).

Reacting to this in a post on X, Mr Dafeamekpor, noted that the Article being cited by the President is inapplicable as the applicable statute would be

The South Dayi MP is therefore questioning the validity of the letter in circulation said to be from the Office of the President.

He has also cautioned the president’s staffers to be well educated on Ghana’s laws and ensure the appropriate usage. According to him, such misinformation dents the reputation of the president.

“Is this letter authentic? If it is, then I have a big issue with the contents. The applicable statute is the LOCAL GOVERNANCE ACT, 2016, ACT 936. That is the law that ought to have been quoted. The staffers around the Prez should stop embarrassing him,” he wrote.

In the letter signed on Friday, February 2, the President directed the affected DCEs to be notified of the revocation and instructed that replacements be nominated under separate cover.

The specific reasons for the revocation were not provided in the statement.

Among those dismissed are, Martina Appiah Nyantakyi (Ahafo Ano North), Nii Larteh Ollenu (Amansie West), Daniel Owuredu (Nkoranza South), Alhaji Abdulai Adams (Pru East), Gmasombe Jerome Kofi Gyimah, (Sene East), Joseph Aidoo (Awutu Senya West), Samuel Kwame Agyekum (Asuogyaman), Seth Asante (Atiwa West), Comfort Asante (New Juaben North), Isaac Kwadzo Buabeng (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumua (Adentan) and Mohammed Bashiru Kamara (Ga Central).

On the matter, financial analyst and US economist, Scott Bolshevik, has shared what he believes to be the reason behind the mass sacking of District Chief Executives by President Akufo-Addo.

According to Mr Bolshevik in a post on X, these DCEs were not dismissed due to their inefficiency or corruption-related activities, per his conversation with a Member of Parliament.

He noted that the 24 individuals were removed from post because the “preferred 24 candidates for president lost the recent elections.”

Mr Bolshevick said their continuous stay may impair flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s quest to become President, thus their appointments had to be revoked by the president.

“I had the privilege to talk to an MP The bizarre part was that the DCEs were sacked, not based on corruption or inefficiency It’s because the preferred 24 candidates for president lost the recent elections. This may impair Bawumia’s succession It has never been about you!” he wrote.

Asenso-Boakye scores Akufo-Addo 90% for good governance amid criticism over economic crisis

Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has lauded President Akufo-Addo for his outstanding performance in managing the nation’s affairs.

The Member of Parliament for Bantama expressed that, in his view, Ghanaians could not have asked for a better president at the current time.

During an appearance on Starr Chat on Starr FM with Bola Ray on Thursday, Asenso Boakye, who previously served as a Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, highlighted President Akufo-Addo’s exemplary leadership, particularly emphasizing the President’s effective handling of challenges during the COVID-19 period.

“He has been amazing. We couldn’t have had a better president at this time. Especially during the difficult times of COVID, I was right by him and the kind of leadership that he provided. Things could have been worse if we didn’t have Akufo-Addo as President at that time, even times that he had to make decisions to put the country on lockdown.

”Akufo-Addo, I believe that apart from programmes and policies he put in place, the kind of leadership he provided I believe no other president could do better.”

Francis Asenso-Boakye therefore assigned a high score of 90% to the president for his adept management of the country’s affairs.

Expressing confidence in Akufo-Addo’s legacy, Asenso-Boakye predicted that in the next ten years, future generations would commend the President for his impactful policies and programs, particularly highlighting the Free Senior High School initiative.

  • Your decision to exit ECOWAS will affect your citizens -Akufo-Addo to Burkina Faso, 2 others

Your decision to exit ECOWAS will affect your citizens -Akufo-Addo to Burkina Faso, 2 others

President Akufo-Addo has expressed regret over the unfortunate decision made by Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso to withdraw their membership from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Currently under military rule, these countries have stated that ECOWAS has become obsolete and does not align with their interests.

As the former ECOWAS Chair, President Akufo-Addo noted that this decision would have repercussions for the citizens of these nations.

He mentioned that discussions were pending to assess the consequences of their withdrawal and determine the next steps forward.

“This unfortunate decision by Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to withdraw from the ECOWAS community is going to be very negative for the populations there. But ECOWAS is yet to meet. It happened on Sunday, and we are waiting for a signal from the head, Nigerian President Tinubu, to indicate the time when we will have a summit to examine the implications of what has happened and the way forward for the community,” he is quoted to have said by CitiNews.

President Akufo-Addo did not explicitly state what these three countries stand to lose. Being a member of ECOWAS has its advantages. Hence, it is fair to conclude that no longer being a part means one may or can no longer enjoy such privileges.

Some benefits of being a member of ECOWAS include; reduced tariffs and quotas, facilitating the flow of goods and services within the region, free movement of people across member states.

  • Akufo-Addo and Bawumia have made corruption normal – Sammy Gyamfi

Akufo-Addo and Bawumia have made corruption normal – Sammy Gyamfi

The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has levied accusations against the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, alleging the institutionalization of corruption.

Mr Gyamfi based his claims on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), emphasizing a significant deterioration in Ghana’s performance over the past seven years.

He pointed out that Ghana achieved its highest CPI score of 48 in 2014 under John Dramani Mahama’s leadership. Conversely, the lowest performance in the last decade was recorded in 2017 under Akufo-Addo, with a score of 40.

According to Mr Gyamfi, this downward trend signals a setback in the anti-corruption efforts, attributing the decline to the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government’s alleged endorsement and promotion of corrupt practices.

The stark contrast in CPI scores, as observed in the last seven years, leads Gyamfi to assert that the fight against corruption has been forfeited under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government.

He claimed that corruption has been institutionalized and allowed to thrive unchecked.

“Never in the history of Ghana has any government enabled, facilitated, promoted and defended corruption like this government has done.

Below is Sammy Gyamfi’s full post

SAMMY GYAMFI ESQ. WRITES ON THE LATEST CORRUPTION PERCEPTION INDEX:

Did you know, that Ghana’s best Corruption Perception Index performance was achieved in the year 2014, under the leadership of H.E John Dramani Mahama, when the country attained its highest CPI score: a score of 48?

Did you know that Ghana’s worst Corruption Perception Index performance in the last decade, was recorded in the year 2017, under the supervision of corrupt Akufo-Addo and Bawumia, when the country attained its lowest CPI score; a score of 40?

Did you know that John Mahama’s worst Corruption Perception Index performance was a score of 43, recorded in the year 2016? And that, this score remains Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s best score under the CPI of Transparency International.

It is glaringly clear, from Ghana’s performance under the CPI in the last seven (7) years, that the fight against corruption has been lost by the corrupt and wasteful Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government, who have institutionalized corruption and made it a thriving free for all venture. Never in the history of Ghana has any government enabled, facilitated, promoted and defended corruption like this government has done.

From the BOSTGATE scandal to the PDS scandal, to the PPA Contracts for Sale scandal, to the “Galamsey” fraud scandal, to the Ameri Novation scandal, to the missing excavators scandal, to the missing fertilizers scandal, to the missing oil scandal, to the missing tricycles scandal, to the Sputnik V Vaccine scandal, to the COVID-19 funds “chop chop” scandal, to the Number 12 scandal, to the Appearance Fee scandal, to the Gold Mafia scandal, to the stolen rice scandal, to the latest stinky SML scandal; Jack Toronto and his younger brother and Mentee, have facilitated, perpetrated and promoted corruption, leading to unprecedented financial losses to the state.

Instead of protecting the public purse as they promised in opposition, they have brazenly desecrated the public purse, wasted meagre state resources on useless ventures and shielded co-perpetrators of corruption from accountability.

Instead of fighting corruption, they have turned around to fight corruption fighters with the might of the state, leading to the murder of an anti-corruption investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, the unlawful ousting of the former Auditor General, Mr. Yao Domelevo, the resignation of the former Special Prosecutor, Martin A.B.K Amidu and the oppression of several journalists and critical voices.

Remember, that a vote for Bawumia is a third-term vote for corrupt Akufo-Addo and his greedy cabal of family and friends.

Don’t let your vote, aid them to escape from accountability. Rather let your vote, aid the state to hold them accountable.

A vote for H.E John Dramani Mahama (The Nation Builder) is the only way, we can hold these crooks accountable for the several crimes they have committed against our beloved nation.

  • Your bad leadership is one of Africa’s biggest challenges – Akufo-Addo tells African leaders

Your bad leadership is one of Africa’s biggest challenges – Akufo-Addo tells African leaders

President Akufo-Addo has delivered a forthright message to African leaders, highlighting the critical impact of ineffective leadership as a primary obstacle to progress on the continent.

In his address, he underscored the imperative for a collective commitment to overcoming this internal challenge, emphasizing the pivotal role of sound governance in fostering sustainable development across Africa.

President Akufo-Addo also urged fellow Heads of State and the global business community to focus on unlocking the $450 billion potential income from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by 2035.

A one percent increase in Africa’s share of global trade, he believes, could generate an additional seventy billion dollars annually for the continent.

To achieve this, the President calls for global support for a new investment approach prioritizing partnerships between private sectors in advanced economies and African economies.

Speaking at the Africa-Italy summit, he emphasized the need to combat tax-dodging and illicit financial flows, which hinder Africa’s development.

“Before 2020, Africa was attracting increasing foreign direct investment (FDI), although overall FDI inflows remained much lower than in other world regions. Between 2000 and 2019, FDI flows to Africa increased fourfold, with a compound annual growth rate of eight-point-five percent (8.5%). Our biggest challenge is not a scarcity of financing, but a confluence of poor governance, speculative risk perception, and a defective environment for crowding in investors.”

“it has become even more urgent to provide reliable electricity, affordable and decent housing, improved transportation networks, and accessible health infrastructure.” he emphasised.

Despite infrastructure projects often failing, the President is optimistic that with reforms, Africa could attract $550 billion in annual investments in infrastructure.

“Recent happenings within the global space, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the turmoil in the Middle East, which is threatening to engulf the rest of the world, have increased the need for policymakers on the African continent to achieve a structural transformation that yields inclusive and sustainable growth patterns over the medium to long term.”

Emphasizing the importance of creating a de-risked landscape, President Akufo-Addo encourages innovative resource mobilization from private sources, international financial institutions, and sovereign wealth funds.

He stressed the need for transformative investments like infrastructure to boost Africa’s development.

The African Development Bank estimates the continent’s infrastructure financing needs at $170 billion annually by 2025, with a $100 billion gap. Given Africa’s 2.5% annual population growth, the President underscores the urgency to provide reliable electricity, affordable housing, improved transportation, and accessible health infrastructure.

Highlighting post-COVID-19 recovery efforts, he notes the increased need for policymakers in Africa to achieve a structural transformation amid global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and turmoil in the Middle East. This transformation aims to yield inclusive and sustainable growth patterns over the medium to long term.

  • Journalist queries Akufo-Addo on why Domelevo was forced to retire while GRA boss remains at post

Journalist queries Akufo-Addo on why Domelevo was forced to retire while GRA boss remains at post

A broadcast journalist at Peace FM, Kwabena Marfo, has raised concerns over President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision not to dismiss Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Adu Owusu-Amoah, the head of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), despite having surpassed the retirement age two years ago.

Speaking on Neat FM’s Morning Show on January 31, 2024, Marfo drew attention to what he perceives as a selective approach by the president, citing the removal of former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo for similar reasons.

Marfo highlighted the apparent inconsistency in President Akufo-Addo’s actions, emphasizing that the president swiftly compelled Domelevo to retire, based on age-related grounds.

“The age that he (Owusu-Amoah) is talking about now, they should have a recheck. When such things happen, I direct it to the president straight,” Marfo expressed.

He continued, “Because we were in this country, and he told us that Domelevo, who was the Auditor General, was sixty years, so he should go on retirement. We argued and argued, but he forced Domelevo to go on by forced retirement.”

Marfo pointed out the repercussions of such actions, stating, “When Domelevo went to court, he won the case, proving that the way he was removed wasn’t correct. Look at this one; his tenure in office has lasted for a very long time, but he is still in office.”

Questioning the president’s decision, Marfo added, “If you do such things, you open yourself up for criticism, because you are being selective. Why is this particular person still in office when his retirement is due, while Domelevo was relieved of his duties?”

During a recent session with the Public Accounts Committee, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai, the GRA boss, disclosed that his tenure had expired three years ago. However, in contrast to the former Auditor General, he continues to hold his position without an official contract.

The journalist’s remarks underscore growing scrutiny over the perceived inconsistency in the president’s handling of retirements based on age within government agencies.

  • Akufo-Addo does not plan to sign anti-LGBTQ bill into law – Mahama

Akufo-Addo does not plan to sign anti-LGBTQ bill into law – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama is of the assertion that President Akufo-Addo will not approve the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill also known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

Mr Mahama criticized the government for not promptly facilitating the approval and enactment of the bill three years after it was introduced.

He disagreed with the President’s argument that passing the bill would result in additional costs for the government and impose pressure on the state’s Consolidated Fund.

“The bill in parliament has not been passed yet, but the government has shown that if the law is passed, the president will not assent to it. The Attorney General says the private member’s motion can be passed, but it should not come at a cost to the government. The president, based on that technicality, will not sign the bill into law. Between Parliament and the Executive, they will have to check and see if they can take off any cost from the government so that the President will sign,” he said.

Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has made his position known on the identification and activities of the LGBTQ community in the country.

According to the former president, Ghana cannot accept or condone the activities of the LGBTQ community. He argues that such a practice or lifestyle goes against the Christian faith.

He rubbished the claim that a man can decide to alter his sex and be addressed as a trans man or woman.

“My faith is against LGBTQ. I am an Assembly’s of God Member. The faith I have does not agree with a man marrying a man and a women getting betrothed to another woman.

“Personally, I don’t agree with that. A man is a man and a woman is a woman. I do not agree with the assertion that people say I feel like I am a girl when I am a boy, so I am going to have surgery.

“God created us as man and woman and he knew what he was doing. So if you ask me, my personal faith is against LGBTQ,” he said.

The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill also known as the LGBTQ Bill has been debated on for close to three years after being sent to Parliament by some eight MPs including Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam Nartey George in 2021.

Speaker Alban Bagbin reassured the public that the bill would be passed before Parliament adjourns for the Christmas and New Year break but that has not been the case.

The Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, has proposed the deletion of Clause 4 of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill.

Clause 4 of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill creates an offense related to undermining proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values.

He argues that the clause is ambiguous and highly subjective in nature, a decision made following engagements with the Attorney-General, hence the need to delete it.

Quoting recommendations from the Attorney General, Godfred Dame, Mr. Anyimadu Antwi said, “Though this clause creates an offence relating to undermining proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values what constitutes ‘undermine’ is not defined and therefore the basis of the offence cannot be determined.

“Mr. Speaker this is the advice the learned Attorney General gave to the committee and the entire committee agreed on this advice. And that’s why we agreed as has been said by ranking that it was too much of subjectivity and ambiguities and that is why we propose that in deleting and creating an offence we shouldn’t be having ambiguities and subjectivities. That is why the proposal is to delete the entire clause.”

Meanwhile, the sponsors of the bill are not enthused about the recommendation made. South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor said that clause was integral to the entire bill and thus deleting it would be erroneous.

“Mr. Speaker the essence of four is so cardinal to this legislation. So, so cardinal, so, so fundamental to it. I’ve been struggling to appreciate the point made by the ranking member that this offence in article 39, he’s not been able to point it out.

“The subjectivity element that he points to that, too I am struggling to appreciate.

“Because you see when we enacted the provision this way, subject to the enhancement contained in the amendments listed thereafter, there will be investigations if somebody makes a complaint that clause four which subsequently will become section four has been breached, that is not the end of it. Investigations will be conducted. It is the investigation that will establish a prima facie that indeed clause four subsequently section four of the law has been breached or not,” he explained.

Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill has received divided opinions, with some Ghanaians calling for its approval while others, such as Amnesty International discouraging its passing.

  • Everybody is just tired of the corruption happening in your govt – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo

Everybody is just tired of the corruption happening in your govt – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo

Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed the view that Ghanaians have become desensitized to corruption.

He noted that in the past, when people heard of scandals, they were shocked, but currently, citizens seem to expect public officers to engage in corruption in one way or another.

“Today when there is a scandal people are like we are tired because they are all tired, everybody is tired. And so even in the twilight to exit office you still coming up with schemes to steal money.

“This is at a time when we have the office of the special prosecutor suddenly say the special prosecutor should return all Cecilia Dapaah’s money to her. The explanation they give is that the Special Prosecutor cannot handle money laundering cases. So why did they establish the office of the special prosecutor?” he quizzed.

He made the comment in response to the latest Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International, ranking Ghana 70th out of 180 countries in terms of corruption.

Ghana scored 43 out of 100, the same since 2020. In Sub-Saharan Africa, Ghana scored better than 39 countries, including Burkina Faso (41), South Africa (41), Côte d’Ivoire (40), Tanzania (40), and Lesotho (39).

However, it ranked lower than seven countries in the region, including Mauritius (51), Namibia (49), and Sao Tome and Principe (45). The average score for African countries remains low, at 33 out of 100, with 90% of Sub-Saharan African nations scoring below 50.

  • I have faith in Mahama, he will not disappoint Ghana – Alhaji Sinare

I have faith in Mahama, he will not disappoint Ghana – Alhaji Sinare

A former National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ambassador Said Sinare, has urged Ghanaians to repose faith in the party’s leader, John Mahama, and vote for him in the upcoming December polls.

Mr Sinare asserted that unlike President Akufo-Addo, who, in his view, has led many Ghanaians into poverty, former President John Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, will perform better and enhance the lives of the citizens.

During an interview on Dwaboase on TV XYZ with Kwame Minkah, Alhaji Sinare expressed confidence that John Mahama, if elected, will exceed his previous performance and bring positive change to the country.

Sinare emphasized that Mahama, despite having only one term to serve if elected, is well-prepared to address the country’s challenges.

He assured, “John will not fail the good people of this great country. When John comes back to power, he will double what he did when he came to power in 2012.”

Regarding how a future NDC government would revitalize the economy, Sinare mentioned that Mahama and the party have outlined policies to tackle wastage, corruption, and rebuild the economy.

He underscored the importance of discipline and economic structure, criticizing what he perceives as “wastage” in the governance of the NPP. Sinare highlighted the NDC’s commitment to transforming the health sector and improving healthcare accessibility.

Mr Sinare questioned the concentration of the country’s only dialysis center in Accra and pledged that the NDC government would establish dialysis centers in government hospitals nationwide.

Discussing plans for Zongos (predominantly Muslim communities), Alhaji Sinare stressed that the NDC, despite having already delivered projects in Zongo communities, is committed to continuing these initiatives if they win the 2024 elections.

He criticized the current government for allegedly failing to fulfill promises to Zongo communities, except for astro turfs. Sinare pledged that under Mahama’s leadership, the NDC would focus on improving lives, boosting employment, and addressing infrastructure needs in Zongo communities.

“I m a Zongo boy. All the promises the government has made to the Zongo communities, they have failed to fulfil them. Apart from the astro turfs, what have they done?” Alhaji Sinare quizzed. “They have totally failed; they have not done anything for Zongos.”

He added, “We are going to improve their lives, we are going to make sure we put money in peoples’ pockets, we will tackle unemployment in the Zongo communities….And the health facilities for instance, their roads facilities, their schools. These are the basic things the Zongo needs. I know John Mahama will not disappoint.”

  • Bonwire road construction underway

    Bonwire road construction underway

Construction has commenced to address road issues in Bonwire following concerns raised by residents about deteriorating roads affecting neighboring communities, especially impacting the crucial hub for Ghanaian Kente fabric.

Weavers emphasized the negative impact on their businesses and tourist visits.

In response construction workers are actively addressing road problems, bringing significant relief to residents.

Local leaders express hope for the completion of construction works, emphasizing the importance of resolving long-standing road issues in the area.

“All inhabitants of Bonwire have over the years complained about the poor state of roads here. President Akufo-Addo has now listened to our call. Construction works are ongoing in many areas here. With the number of equipment they have brought here, we are hopeful that they will complete construction works before leaving this area,” Nana Poku, an opinion leader at Bonwire noted.

“We were indeed very worried when construction works on various roads here were abandoned. We were suffering because of the dusty road. As a tourist centre, many people were discouraged from visiting this area because of the poor road network. After complaining about this issue over the years, the government is now fixing it for us. We want the government to ensure work is completed to give us the needed respite,” another resident, Degraft Okai Kwabena added.

Drivers, who have faced frequent breakdowns, urge the government to ensure the timely completion of the construction to alleviate ongoing struggles.

“The road projects here have been abandoned for a long time. We have always been complaining about it. Construction works commenced at a certain point but it was later abandoned and some residents even sustained injuries after falling into pits that were created. After we complained again, they resumed work and later halted work. They have once again resumed work but we fear work could be abandoned once again. We don’t want them to trick us because it is an election year and then abandon work again,” a disturbed taxi driver, Prince Boateng stated.

“Armed robbers used to take advantage of the poor road network to attack people here. We want the government to ensure construction works are not halted to give us some sort of relief because we usually experience vehicle breakdowns as a result of the poor state of roads,” Bismark Acheampong, a driver stated.

“We are excited about the ongoing construction works since our vehicles have been breaking down because of the poor roads here. We don’t want work to stall halfway through the construction. If they don’t complete work on the various road projects, we will vote against the government,” Kingsley Oppong Boateng, a driver added.

“The contract is for the rehabilitation of Bonwire junction-Asonomaso road. The entire length is around 11 kilometres. This project was awarded just at the beginning of this year. We are expected to complete it in 24 months’ time. We might not use that two years to complete. We might finish before our time because of the progress that is going on. Kofi Job is a big company. We have our logistics, we have some amount of money that is backing us. With the push of the government, we hope to complete the work in no time,” Kofi Kankam, Project engineer, Kofi Job Company Limited noted.

Contractors responsible for the projects assure the public of their commitment to completing the work on schedule, with necessary allocations secured for an early and successful completion of the rehabilitation project spanning Bonwire junction to Asonomaso, covering approximately 11 kilometers.

  • Joyce Bawah Mogtari writes on Cecilia Dapaah’s case

Joyce Bawah Mogtari writes on Cecilia Dapaah’s case

We have been stating for years that John Mahama has been a victim of extreme prejudice and political propaganda led sadly by a man whose sole aim was to become president at all costs.

This he could only achieve by destroying his predecessor, a good man, a very patriotic Ghanaian, Nana Akufo-Addo, in the past touted as his friend and a good colleague on the other side of the political divide in parliament.

Recall the Ford vehicle issue and the accusations of corruption against Mr Mahama by the NPP. Let me also mention the bus branding ‘scandal’, which again led to serious accusations, mass mobilisation and condemnation by the NPP and then-candidate Akufo-Addo.

These are two significant examples of how corruption and graft were used as political leverage to justify the claim that the NDC and its leadership were incompetent and incapable of managing the country’s affairs.

It is worth noting that today, Akufo Addo and Bawumia are in power, but they have yet to be able to prove any of these claims. From the actions and omissions of their government, it is obvious to Ghanaians that they are corrupt and comfortable associating with corruption.

The level of dishonesty and disregard for the Ghanaian people by this NPP Government is unprecedented and gravely unimaginable.

This president promised to put his presidency on the line to end galamsey at a time when it was axiomatic that they were and are heavily involved in it. This is manifestly evident in Frimpong Boateng’s report, bearing in mind that the president himself commissioned this work.

How the former Minister has since been treated in the aftermath of the leaked report is now a matter of public record and needs no reiteration.

That galamsey is perpetrated by members of the president’s team and government is confirmed, and it has been established that some NPP members have been using expensive mining equipment without authorisation, raping the state of its natural resources, and destroying our water bodies; whilst Akufo Addo looks on unconcerned.

You may recall the regrettable will of the late Sir John, who left forest concessions, properties, and state lands to his family upon his passing. What is the current status of this matter? Why has the President yet to take action? We are eagerly waiting for the President’s response. Galamsey is still ongoing, causing damage to our water bodies.

Let me also remind you of the recent scandal involving Cecelia Dapaah. This case has only reinforced the accusations of corruption against President Akufo-Addo.

As every Ghanaian predicted, the case has ended. A court ruling has ordered that all the hard currency and amounts in the bank be returned to Cecilia Dapaah.

This decision is a travesty that we are all struggling to understand. The amount of money involved pales in comparison to any alleged corruption claims or allegations under President Mahama.

The OSP has ultimately truncated one of the biggest scandals of all time and an irrefutable opportunity for this Government to prove itself as one willing and able to deal with corruption.

The inability or the desire to fight corruption vehemently has conferred on Akufo-Addo the title of a clearing agent. As he predicted, his ‘dear’ Cecilia Dapaah has been cleared, and what little integrity she has left will be for history to judge.

Mr Mahama was tough enough on corruption, and many instances confirm this. All the allegations of corruption during his first term were actuated by malice and by a trumpeted campaign carefully hatched by the NPP, particularly Akufo Addo and Bawumia, to taint and tarnish the unblemished character of President Mahama.

Ghanaians should be outraged at the mismanagement of the country and join the fight for change to rescue the nation from a failed government.

  • I never sent anyone to Akufo-Addo for Prof. Atta Mills’ autopsy report – Ekumfi chief

I never sent anyone to Akufo-Addo for Prof. Atta Mills’ autopsy report – Ekumfi chief

The Paramount Chief of Ekumfi Traditional Area, Odeefo Akyin VIII, has rejected claims that he authorized representatives to approach President Akufo-Addo seeking the autopsy report of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

On January 13, 204, the family of the late former President, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, appealed to President Akufo-Addo for the autopsy report, expressing concerns about the undisclosed cause of his death and emphasizing the need for closure and historical documentation.

Addressing the issue in a press conference on Monday, Odeefo Akyin VIII clarified, stating, “To set the records straight, the Paramount Chief Odeefo Akyin VIII has not appointed nor delegated anyone or any group of individuals to His Excellency (H.E.) the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or any other institution to request an autopsy on the late Professor Mills on our behalf or on behalf of the family.”

He denounced attempts by certain groups and individuals to connect the Ekumfi Chiefs to the issue as malicious. Odeefo Akyin VIII firmly stated, “We want to emphasize that any attempt to link the Chiefs of Ekumfi to such actions is malicious, untrue, and mischievous, and must be treated with the contempt it deserves. Ekumfi Nananom, led by the Paramount Chief Odeefo Akyin VIII, also want to send a strong message to anyone or group of persons claiming to be from Ekumfi or elsewhere, and who allow themselves to be used for such disgraceful and malicious acts, that they may have to prepare to face the wrath of Nananom. The late Professor Atta Mills must be allowed to rest in peace.”

Additionally, the Paramount Chief characterized the ongoing media exchanges between the family of Prof Mills and other individuals as “appalling and disgraceful.”

He urged the involved parties to seek resolution through private discussions instead of engaging in public disputes. Odeefo Akyin VIII expressed dismay, stating, “The Nananom of Ekumfi believe that if the extended or any member of the family has issues with the report, they could engage in private discussions with the immediate family to settle their disagreements once and for all, instead of the recurring media banter. Nananom wish to state that the ongoing back-and-forth wrangling is not only appalling but also disgraceful and disgusting, projecting the family as a disintegrated one.”

You cannot tell us who to vote for – Ekumfi chiefs to Akufo-Addo

The Ekumfi Traditional Council has responded to President Akufo-Addo’s implied deliberate neglect of Ekumfi residents because they voted against the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary candidate, Kingsley Ato Cudjoe, in the 2020 elections.

They emphasized that there is no constitutional provision empowering the President to dictate the voting preferences of Ekumfi or any constituency, the council asserted that individuals have the right to independently decide whom to vote for without external influence.

The Traditional Authority further demanded for scientific data from the Akufo-Addo regarding the former MP’s contributions to justify Akufo-Addo’s assertion.

Omanhene Odeefour Akyin VIII, speaking to the media, deems the President’s comments unfortunate, emphasizing that Ekumfi’s residents exercised democratic rights and should not face repercussions.

“The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was seen in a viral video after some family of the late President Prof. Atta Mills visited him at the Jubilee House, categorically stating that he has denied the people of Ekumfi the much-needed development because they did not vote for Kingsley Ato Cudjoe, the New Patriotic Party candidate in the 2020 elections. There is no provision in the 1992 constitution which mandates the President to decide who the people of Ekumfi or for that matter any other constituency must vote for. We cannot understand why the President has abandoned all ongoing developmental projects in the constituency, particularly the construction of roads.”

“The people of Ekumfi are struggling because they did not vote for his preferred candidate, Kingsley Ato Cudjoe. But I believe that accurate data can justify the President’s claim, and so we need the data. But we want the President to know that the same Ato Cudjoe who is preferred by the President and whose exit from Parliament has become the reason the people have neglected Ekumfi has once again lost miserably in the NPP internal parliamentary primaries. So why must the chief and people of Ekumfi suffer just because of one person who has been neglected by his own party people,” Odeefour Akyin VIII, the Omanhene of Ekumfi Traditional Area, said.

Akufo-Addo’s statement, made during a meeting with the family of late President Prof. Atta Mills, claimed he denied development to Ekumfi for not voting for Ato Cudjoe.

Odeefour Akyin VIII questions the President’s authority to dictate voting choices, expressing bewilderment at the abandonment of ongoing developmental projects, especially road construction.

Highlighting Ekumfi’s struggles post-election, Odeefour Akyin VIII calls for accurate data to support the President’s claim.

He notes Ato Cudjoe’s loss in NPP internal parliamentary primaries, questioning why Ekumfi suffers due to one neglected by his own party.

The Ekumfi Omanhene urges Akufo-Addo to fulfill promises made as a father for all, emphasizing the anticipation of stalled developmental projects’ completion.

Odeefour Akyin VIII calls for calm among Ekumfi’s people, assuring efforts to address the issues while emphasizing respect for President Akufo-Addo despite the statement’s unfortunate impact.

Akufo-Addo asked my boss to sack me – GH Mouthpiece

Renowned social media influencer, GH Mouthpiece, has disclosed that she lost her job at Accra-based Kingdom FM after speaking out against President Akufo-Addo and his government regarding economic challenges in Ghana during the #FixTheCountry protest.

Recounting the incident during an interview on the Delay Show , she detailed how, on a crucial day, her boss unexpectedly summoned her just before going leave.

In a state of anger, he confronted her about her activities the previous night.

Initially bewildered, she denied any wrongdoing.

To her astonishment, he played a video featuring her quoting the President’s past campaign message, “We are sitting on money but still, we are hungry,” and added her voice, emphasizing that hunger had only worsened since he assumed power.

After viewing the video, he questioned her about her decision to create content centered around the president.

She explained that her intention was to spotlight the current state of the country.

However, when she requested to return to work, he denied the request.

“He pulled out a video of me addressing some concerns with regard to the ‘fix the country’ campaign. In the video, I poked Nana Addo for promising us a better life whereas we are currently experiencing worse situations. Before he came to power, he said Ghana was sitting on a gold mine but the citizens were hungry. Now you are in power and we are still living in the same Ghana, we haven’t relocated into the bush but things have worsened. That’s what I said in the video, but I recorded it in my house.

“I admitted to recording this video when my managers confronted me. My boss asked why I disrespectfully spoke about the president in that manner… He showed me a chat between him and the president at 1 am. In the conversation, the president was complaining about the video I did. After the confrontation, I asked if I could go back on air and my boss said no.

“Quickly, I walked to my office, picked up my bag and laptop and the show was left ajar. Days later, I was called from home to write an apology letter to the president. In fact, an already printed apology letter was handed to me to read and sign. So, I resigned. My soul, mind and spirit had left the job,” she stated in an interview with Delay.

Consequently, she had to clear her desk and leave. In the following days, Gh Mouthpiece was pressured to write an apology letter to the President, despite feeling that she had not offended him.

She eventually signed an apology letter drafted by her producer and manager. Although she was offered her job back, she chose to decline and resigned instead.

  • $2bn Sentuo Oil Refinery commissioned by Akufo-Addo

$2bn Sentuo Oil Refinery commissioned by Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has officially inaugurated the Sentuo Oil Refinery Limited, a $2 billion project located in the Tema industrial hub.

The refinery, spanning 100 acres and operating under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) policy, is designed to process five million barrels of oil annually.

As part of its offerings, the refinery will produce high-quality petroleum products such as finished gasoline (petrol), aviation kerosene, diesel, asphalt, lubricating base oil, solvent oil, polypropylene, liquefied petroleum gas, ammonium sulfide, sulfuric acid, sulphur, and other by-products.

This flagship project, initiated in 2022, aligns with Ghana’s industrialization goals and is expected to create approximately 1,000 job opportunities.

The first phase, currently underway, aims to produce 40,000 barrels of refined products daily. The second phase, set for completion next year, will further elevate production to 100,000 barrels daily.

The inauguration ceremony attracted notable figures, including the President of Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, ministers of state, Members of Parliament, chiefs, captains of industry, and chief executives of regulatory bodies.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the project’s significance, citing it as a pivotal move to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil and drive economic growth. He applauded the collaboration between the public and private sectors, highlighting its role in advancing Ghana’s progress, job creation, and industrialization.

Recognizing the contributions of Chinese promoter Xu Ning Quan and partners, President Akufo-Addo underscored the positive relations between Ghana and China. He acknowledged the 15-year collaboration that resulted in the establishment of both the Sentuo Oil Refinery and the Fujian Sentuo Ceramic Company Limited.

In addressing the national petroleum sector, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully operationalize the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to enhance local oil refining capabilities.

Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, praised the management of Sentuo for their investments in the country, expressing optimism about the refinery’s positive impact on the local economy.

Xu Ning Quan, Executive Chairman of the Sentuo Group of Companies, expressed gratitude to the government for creating a favorable business environment. He reiterated the group’s commitment to contributing to Ghana’s industrial growth.

  • “Akufo-Addo has destroyed us, we want John Mahama now” – Suame Magazine traders declare

“Akufo-Addo has destroyed us, we want John Mahama now” – Suame Magazine traders declare

Traders at Suame Magazine, the largest industrial cluster in Ghana, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government and called for the return of former President John Mahama in the 2024 election.

Suame Magazine, located in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, is home to over 200,000 workers and 12,000 small businesses, mainly dealing with metal engineering and vehicle repairs.

The traders, who spoke to the media on Friday, January 26, 2024, said they had been disappointed by the unfulfilled promises of Akufo-Addo, especially in the areas of infrastructure, taxation, and importation.

“We don’t have anything to tell him again. All Nana’s promises never happened. He even promised to build a hospital for us, but he never did. After 8 years,” one of the traders said.

Another trader lamented the high cost of importing goods from the port, saying it had affected their businesses negatively.

“The amount of money we use when we are going to get more items, we pay more than that at the port when we get there. Why? What is going on in Ghana is not good, so we are pleading with John Mahama that if he listens to us, we too, we will listen to him. So we beg him he should come and help us here at Magazine. We the scrap dealers and the spare parts dealers are suffering,” he said.

The traders also compared the economic situation under Akufo-Addo and Mahama, and said there was a huge difference in favour of the latter.

“Ghana is not developed yet, but if we compare what Mahama did during his time and what Akufo-Addo has done, there is a huge difference. During Akufo-Addo’s time, cement is 100 cedis, but during Mahama’s time it was 28 cedis. If you look at the difference. Akufo-Addo has destroyed the country in 8 years. So we want Mahama to continue,” another trader said.

A shop owner said his wife always goes home crying because of low sales, and blamed it on the poor economic management of Akufo-Addo.

“My wife has a shop here. She always comes home crying. She says people are unable to buy anything. So sometimes she comes home without sales,” he said.

The traders said they were praying for John Mahama, popularly known as JM, to come back to power and rescue them from their hardships.

“The way the job was when NDC was in power, now it is not so. Everything has reduced. So we are all praying that John Mahama will come back into power. JM should come back,” they said.

John Mahama, who is the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been making efforts to woo the voters in the Ashanti Region, promising to complete all the abandoned projects initiated by his government.

Mahama is expected to face Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the 2024 election.

  • I wish you all the best but vote for credible and winnable candidates – Akufo-Addo’s lawyer tells delegates

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for its parliamentary primaries today, Saturday, January 27, Kow Essuman, the Legal Counsel to President Akufo-Addo, has called on party delegates to prioritize credibility and electability when choosing candidates.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mr Essuman emphasized the significance of selecting candidates capable of securing a robust parliamentary majority for the party. He urged delegates to exercise caution during the primaries, emphasizing the need to prioritize the party’s interests over individual considerations.

“I wish all those contesting in today’s primaries the very best. It is my hope and prayer that the NPP delegates elect credible, winnable candidates to contest the parliamentary elections in December and secure a strong parliamentary majority,” Mr. Essuman stated.

The parliamentary primaries are set to take place in constituencies where the NPP currently holds incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs). Over 104 constituencies across the country will be involved in these elections.

The NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, confirmed on Thursday, January 25, that all necessary preparations, including the readiness of ballots and election materials, had been completed and were set for distribution.

Out of the total number of 373 aspirants who filed to contest the primaries, after vetting, 29 are going unopposed, 11 were disqualified, two were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two stepped down, one submitted an incomplete form, and two did not attend the vetting process. This leaves 326 qualified aspirants for the primaries.

Ahead of the exercise, the party announced that the Ghana Police Service would assume full responsibility for security arrangements during the polls. The General Secretary emphasized that no private security personnel or machinery would be permitted at the election grounds, and anyone violating this directive would face consequences from the police.

The parliamentary primaries are a crucial phase for the NPP, aiming to finalize the selection of candidates who will represent the party in the upcoming parliamentary elections in December. The focus on credibility and electability aligns with the party’s strategic goal of securing a strong parliamentary majority for a potential future Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia government to effectively serve the interests of Ghanaians.

  • Sentuo Oil Refinery in Tema commissioned

Sentuo Oil Refinery in Tema commissioned

President Nana Akufo-Addo in line with government’s robust industrialisation agenda, commissioned Sentuo Oil Refinery Limited, on Thursday, January 26, in Tema.

The operationalisation of the two million barrels per annum refinery is a pivotal step towards securing Ghana’s collective energy future and represents yet another important demonstration of the cooperation between the public and private sectors, one of which has enabled the materialisation of this investment.

Speaking at the event, he said the project, which is scalable to five million barrels per year, upon completion of the second phase, represents not just brick and mortar.

“But a symbol of our determination to shape our destiny, strengthen our economy, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and inspire investment in our economy. It stands as a testament to the power of innovation.”

Acknowledging the effort of the Chinese promoter, he said, Mr. Xu Ning Quan’s collective effort, over the past 15 years, has not just culminated in the strengthening of the industrialisation agenda of government with the setting up of the refinery, but also with the February 2018 commissioning of the Fujian Sentuo Ceramic Company Limited, a ceramic tile production company working under the 1-District-1-Factory policy, located in Kpone, Greater Accra Region.

With the tile company currently producing, 45 million square metres of tiles per annum, he added that these are “good examples of the excellent relations that the Republic of Ghana enjoys with the People’s Republic of China.”

Aside from providing a stable supply of petroleum products, creating jobs to empower local communities and driving investment in related industries as part of the broader industrialisation agenda, he said the setting up of the refinery will ensure that with all on stream, the country will no longer be solely reliant on external sources for fuel but will harness all natural resources to fuel the nation’s progress.

“By processing our crude oil domestically, we are creating opportunities to add value, transform raw materials into finished products, and increase the competitiveness of our manufacturing sector.

“This refinery stands as a good example of our “Ghana made” (Made-In-Ghana) initiative, where we prioritise local production for the benefit of Ghanaians,” he emphasised.

President Akufo-Addo explains further that, the project highlights the significant role of the petroleum industry in the country’s economic development.

The petroleum industry is a catalyst for innovation, job creation, and technological advancement. By investing in this sector, we pave the way for the development of a robust industrial revolution that will support various sectors, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and construction.

He bemoaned the prevalent situation where 97 per cent of our current consumption of petroleum products is imported, resulting in a heavy reliance on external sources.

“This over-reliance not only poses economic challenges such as high cost, and the constant drain on our foreign currency reserves but also limits our ability to control prices and ensure a stable supply,” he added.

That is why, “the establishment of this refinery signifies our commitment to reducing this dependence, achieving self-sufficiency, and driving the growth of our domestic petroleum industry.”

Touching on the prospects of the Tema Oil Refinery, he assured the people of government’s unflinching commitment to the full operationalisation of TOR.

“We will stop at nothing to bring it back on stream so that, together with Sentuo, more and more of our oil will be refined right here in Ghana.”

PARADOX: Akufo-Addo says he will revive TOR after inaugurating of a Chinese-owned refinery

President Akufo-Addo has emphasized the ongoing efforts for the complete revitalization of the Tema Oil Refinery.

The president found it prudent to register his government’s commitment during the inauguration ceremony of the Santuo Oil Refinery in Tema, a refinery owned by the Chinese firm Santuo Group.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the potential of having both the Tema Oil Refinery and the Santuo Oil Refinery fully operational, believing that this would enable Ghana to locally refine a significant portion of its oil, reducing dependence on imported refined products.

In August 2010, the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) plant was temporarily shut down for lack of crude oil. In 2018, TOR was shut down for the same reason and has since not been fully operational.

At inauguration ceremony of the Santuo Oil Refinery. the Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Premier (NAPO) extended an invitation to foreign investors to participate in the energy sector, aiming to enhance productivity. He commended the Santuo Group for its substantial investment in the Santuo Oil Refinery.

Initially processing 40,000 barrels of oil daily, the Santuo Oil Refinery aims to gradually increase its capacity to 100,000 barrels per day in its first phase.

Xu Ning Quan, the Executive Chairman of Santuo Group, expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts involving government institutions and traditional authorities that facilitated the establishment of the Santuo Oil Refinery.

Despite being Chinese-owned, Mr. Xu Quan affirmed their deep commitment to Ghana’s progress, particularly in the energy domain, highlighting Ghana as their second home.

  • Africa is too rich to be poor, we are blessed – Akufo-Addo

Africa is too rich to be poor, we are blessed – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has underscored that Africa should not endure poverty, given the continent’s abundance of natural resources.

Speaking at the second edition of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues in Peduase, Eastern Region, on Thursday, January 25, 2024, the President highlighted Africa’s wealth, including oil, gas, minerals, abundant sunlight, and 65% of arable land capable of feeding 9 billion people globally by 2030.

President Akufo-Addo expressed his vision for Africa to evolve into a global powerhouse, leveraging its rich resource base and youthful population.

Encouraged by a private sector prepared for economic collaboration, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the President emphasized the significance of economic integration as a key factor in realizing Africa’s prosperity.

He noted that the current focus on facilitating the free movement of people, goods, and services across the continent is essential for realizing the United Africa dream.

“We all know that Africa is blessed, Africa is not a poor continent, in fact, she is too rich to be poor. A continent that has every natural resource imaginable; oil, gas, minerals and an abundance of sunlight. We have some 65 per cent of all arable land available to feed 9 billion people globally by 2030 and our continent is filled with the most youthful population in the world –everything we need to transform Africa into a global powerhouse of the future,”

“I’m now encouraged that Africa now has a private sector that is ready, deliberate and eager to see that the 60-year-old dream of the United Africa manifests. The difference perhaps, of the then and today is that the focus is on an area where there can be no debate –economic integration.

“How we facilitate the free movement of people, goods and services across this vast and resourceful mass Africa is what we must devote our energies to.”

However, challenges such as insufficient funds, resignations from board of trustees members, and revelations by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, led to the project’s halt in 2023.

A video shared by GHOne on X has now revealed the resumption of construction activities at the site.

Notably, the footage shows the foundation of the cathedral covered, with heavy trucks actively operating on the premises.

The estimated cost of the National Cathedral is approximately $200 million.

  • GRA/SML contract: Extending KPMG’s audit period will cost the govt more – Prof. Samuel Antwi

GRA/SML contract: Extending KPMG’s audit period will cost the govt more – Prof. Samuel Antwi

Dean of Graduate Students at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Samuel Antwi, has pointed out that the extension of KPMG’s work tenure may result in the government having to pay additional fees for their services.

KPMG is tasked with auditing the revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML-Ghana).

President Akufo-Addo ordered an audit into the contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) due to concerns and revelations about the company’s performance and the accuracy of its claims.

The audit, initially scheduled to conclude on January 16, 2024, has been extended to February 23, 2024, following a request from KPMG, which has been approved by the president.

Prof. Antwi emphasized that despite being a request from KPMG, the extension would still incur additional costs for the government as the client.

“We’re going to pay for it because as I explained for every additional time except ‘give me some few days to put up my report’ an assignment that you were given two weeks to do, if you’re given six additional weeks, it means that there is some additional works you intend to do for which the client should pay.

“You can’t tell me that a job you have spent two weeks to do, you need six weeks to write a report. So we really need to interrogate why KPMG is asking for an additional six weeks.

“It means that in evaluating the work, the pre-audit arrangement, they made some mistakes in estimating the time they needed to complete the work. And once they realised that they needed an additional six weeks to complete the work, the client would have to pay more money.”

According to him, the turn of events is rather strange and KPMG may have to explain why they could not finish within the initial two weeks.

“They should come and tell us what is the issue that they’re unable to finish in two weeks, they need to finish in eight weeks,” he said.

Ghana plans to allow visa-free entry for all Africans worldwide – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has announced his government’s commitment to implementing a visa-free policy for all Africans traveling to Ghana in 2024.

During the opening of the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue on January 25, the President revealed that the necessary processes for the policy’s execution have been initiated.

In his address to participants, he acknowledged the visa requirements for attending the event and highlighted a special arrangement made for the conference, reducing the visa acquisition fee by 50%.

“We reduced the visa acquisition fee by 50%, and we were thus able to receive your visa on arrival. The Government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free access for all Africans travelling into our country, and the process has begun to implement the policy this year.”

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the Government of Ghana’s dedication to providing visa-free access to all Africans visiting the country, with the implementation process set to commence this year.

Encouraging a critical examination of such dialogues, the President stressed their importance in meeting the demands of the private sector.

“These dialogues have to examine critically the responsibilities and expectations of the private sector and demand the same of the public sector and expect that both can work as partners to achieve the Africa we want. We must strengthen our resolve to work hand in hand with our governments in free and fair democratic systems of governance that promote safe and sound, legal, and institutional frameworks. Let us work to get the buy-in of the small trader, builder, farmer, and seamstress and make them believe that having a single market can benefit them as well,” he entreated.

He called for collaboration among Africans to strengthen their governments within a free and fair democratic system.

Additionally, he urged concerted efforts to secure the support of small traders and farmers for the concept of a unified African market, emphasizing its potential benefits for them.

The two-day Africa Prosperity Dialogue, themed “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add, Value, and Trade,” is being held at the Peduase Lodge. Organized by the APN in collaboration with the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat and the Government of Ghana, the event serves as an annual platform for business executives, thought leaders, and political figures to collaborate on advancing the goal of building the world’s largest single market in Africa.

The Africa Prosperity Dialogues were officially adopted by the African Union on February 19, 2023, as a crucial instrument for mobilizing private sector support for the continent’s AfCFTA project.

This decision was made during the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

Akufo-Addo refuses GRA’s request for SML to continue monitoring system amidst KPMG audit

President Akufo-Addo has rejected the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) request to allow the continuous operation of SML’s monitoring system during the ongoing audit conducted by KPMG.

The President has specified that the suspension should persist until KPMG completes its audit and submits the findings for review.

This decision was communicated by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, through a press statement issued on Wednesday, January 24.

“The President has denied GRA’s request and has directed that the status quo, with respect to the suspension of the performance of the contract, should remain in effect until the completion of the audit and, subsequent, submission of the audit report by KPMG,” an excerpt of the release said.

Initially set for completion by Tuesday, January 16, 2024, the new deadline for KPMG’s work is now Friday, February 23, 2024.

This extension follows a request from KPMG to the President, seeking additional time beyond the initial two-week period provided for the task.

“KPMG is to submit its final report no later than Friday, 23rd February 2024,” the statement added.

In a December 2023 investigative report, The Fourth Estate implicated Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and the Ministry of Finance in a contentious contract.

The report alleged that GRA had granted SML a purported 10-year contract with an annual payment of $100 million, raising concerns about possible irregularities. SML refuted this claim, asserting that it had a five-year contract instead.

The GRA, in a statement on December 20, 2023, maintained that proper procurement procedures were followed. On January 3, 2024, SML welcomed President Akufo-Addo’s directive to suspend its ongoing revenue assurance operations and undergo an audit of its contract with the GRA and the Ministry of Finance.

President Akufo-Addo appointed KPMG, an audit, tax, and advisory services firm, to conduct an immediate audit.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has initiated an investigation into the controversial contract between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The focus of the probe is on potential breaches of procurement processes and allegations of corruption and corruption-related activities.

  • 99% of residents will attest Akufo-Addo has not abandoned Ashanti Region – NPP to Mahama

99% of residents will attest Akufo-Addo has not abandoned Ashanti Region – NPP to Mahama

The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has responded strongly to former President John Dramani Mahama’s claim that the region, despite historically contributing significant electoral votes, has been neglected by the current government.

During his campaign for the proposed 24-hour economy policy in Kumasi, Mahama criticized the government, pointing to unfinished projects like the Kumasi Central Market.

In rebuttal, Adom Appiah, the NPP’s regional secretary, vehemently contested Mahama’s assertions and pointed to completed infrastructure projects as proof of the government’s dedication to the Ashanti Region.

Mr Appiah specifically highlighted the successful revitalization of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s 44-year-old mother and child block.

He emphasized that the structure, which was considered structurally unsound, was demolished and reconstructed under President Addo Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s administration.

Asserting his position, Appiah stated, “99% of Ashanti residents will agree with me when I say that President Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s administration has not neglected the region,” Mr Appiah declared.

He added “If you have been to Kumasi, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, for instance, there was a 44-year-old mother and child block for 44 good years, this block stood unattended to. President Akufo-Addo pulled it down and rebuilt it, recognizing its importance to the 27% of Ghanaians who depend on it.”

The legal representative of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Agordzo has pledged to initiate legal action against the State.

He said look pass through means and said conditions are ripe in Ghana for another spring and you see since the time he spoke its gotten worse and that was before COVID-19 hit and you are aware that when COVID-19 hit about 850,000 more of fellow Ghanaians were pushed below the poverty line.

Your proposal to conduct general elections on November 7 will not receive our support – NDC to EC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unequivocally rejected the Electoral Commission’s proposal to change the election date from December 7 to November 7.

The proposition, discussed during the recent Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on January 22, 2024, also included the recommendation to designate election days as national holidays.

Dr. Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections for the NDC, conveyed the party’s strong opposition to altering the established election timeline in a Facebook post.

He underscored the NDC’s commitment to the current election date and urged the Electoral Commission to conduct a comprehensive review of the entire electoral process.

Dr. Boamah stated, “On IPAC matters, for the avoidance of doubt:

    1. We (NDC) do not support the November date for elections.

    2. Instead of cherry-picking, we (NDC) call for a comprehensive review of the electoral process through inclusive and proper dialogue; we already submitted our proposals to the EC.

    3. On voting on prayer/worship days, we (NDC) are open to discussions.”

  • You are the worst president in Ghana’s history- Efia Odo jabs Akufo–Addo

You are the worst president in Ghana’s history- Efia Odo jabs Akufo–Addo

Ghanaian actress and model, Andrea Owusu, popularly known as Efia Odo, has strongly criticized President Akufo-Addo, labelling his tenure as the worst in the history of Ghana.

The outspoken celebrity expressed her dissatisfaction in response to media reports on the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) approval of the $600 million second tranche of the $3 billion extended credit facility program.

In a recent post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Efia Odo did not mince words, stating, “With all due respect, this man [President Akufo-Addo] is the worst president in the history of GHANA!!!” This is not the first time she has criticised the Akufo-Addo government, particularly for seeking IMF support despite earlier assurances not to approach the institution.

Efia Odo has actively participated in the Fix The Country movement, advocating for improved governance and accountability.

She played a role in the Occupy Jubilee House demonstration, where demands for President Akufo-Addo’s resignation echoed due to perceived shortcomings in his administration’s performance.

Joining a growing list of media personalities unafraid to voice dissatisfaction with political leadership, Efia Odo uses her social media platform to champion activism and advocate for social amenities.

The actress follows in the footsteps of others like Yvonne Nelson, who initiated the #DumsorMustStop vigil against the Mahama administration in 2015 during the period of erratic power supply known as “Dumsor.”
