Actor Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt has formally requested a Los Angeles court to remove “Pitt” from her name.
Born to Hollywood icons Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Shiloh took this legal step on her 18th birthday, May 27.
Angelina Jolie initiated divorce proceedings from Brad Pitt in September 2016, though their separation’s details remain unresolved, awaiting a settlement.
Simultaneously, they’re embroiled in a legal tussle over Chateau Miraval, a French winery they co-own.
Shiloh, their third-oldest child among six, follows in her siblings’ footsteps regarding name changes.
Earlier, her 15-year-old sister Vivienne altered her surname in a Playbill for a Broadway production.
Similarly, in a 2023 video, their eldest daughter Zahara introduced herself with the surname Jolie upon joining a sorority.
Despite being an accomplished voice actor in Kung Fu Panda 3, Shiloh is the first to officially petition for a name change among the siblings.
The legal request coincides with ongoing developments in Jolie and Pitt’s divorce saga, stemming from incidents dating back to 2016, including allegations of physical and verbal abuse.
This contentious battle also encompasses property and business disputes, prominently featuring Château Miraval.
Angelina Jolie has revealed in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine that if she were starting out in the entertainment industry today, she would not pursue a career as an actress.
This statement was just one of the revelations shared by the star in an article titled “Angelina Jolie Is Rebuilding Her Life.”
In the interview, Jolie discussed various aspects of her life, including the process of “healing” after her split from Brad Pitt and her future plans. She also touched on her sentiments regarding the town that played a pivotal role in her becoming a star.
The interview provides insights into Jolie’s reflections on her career, personal life, and the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry.
“I grew up in quite a shallow place,” Jolie said of Hollywood. “Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity.”
The daughter of actor Jon Voight, Jolie, told the publication, “Because I grew up around Hollywood, I was never very impressed with it. I never bought into it as significant or important.”
If she had the choice to break into the entertainment industry today, she probably wouldn’t pursue a career as an actress.
“I wouldn’t be an actress today,” she said, with the caveat that perhaps she would have done theater, but not Hollywood. “When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.”
Angelina Jolie has faced increased scrutiny, partially stemming from her divorce filing seven years ago from Brad Pitt, with whom she shares six children. In the aftermath of the divorce, Jolie has notably reduced her professional commitments and has primarily focused on being at home with her children.

“We had to heal,” she said of her family. “There are things we needed to heal from.”
She understands the interest in her life. At one point she and Pitt were a golden couple in the industry.
“Since I was young, people liked the part of me that’s pretty tough and maybe a bit wild—that’s the part that I think people enjoy,” Jolie said. “I’m not the one [who] you want to hear about my pain or my sadness. You know, that’s not entertaining.”
Angelina Jolie, known for her humanitarian work and her versatility in various settings, has expressed her intention to eventually move away from Los Angeles. Instead, she plans to spend more time at her home in Cambodia.
“It’s part of what happened after my divorce,” Jolie said. “I lost the ability to live and travel as freely. I will move when I can.”

Hollywood actress and director Angelina Jolie has alleged bias on the part of the judge who oversaw her child custody case with ex-husband Brad Pitt. She is now using her experience to advocate for legislation called “Piqui’s Law,” which would mandate domestic violence training for judges, mediators, and other court professionals to educate them about the effects of child abuse and trauma.
In a letter dated September 29 addressed to California Governor Gavin Newsom, Jolie expressed her support for the legislation and detailed her own experiences with a judge who, in her view, favored her ex-husband and did not allow her children to testify about domestic violence they had experienced.
Jolie’s advocacy for “Piqui’s Law” stems from the challenges she faced during her child custody case, and she aims to prevent such biases and ensure the protection of children in similar situations.
“This is personal to her, and for good reason,” a source close to Jolie told The Post.
“Look at what she faced from a biased judge who was removed by the appellate court for his corrupt and secretive financial dealings with Brad Pitt’s team that violated judicial ethics in her family’s case, and who refused to review evidence of domestic abuse.
“It’s no surprise she has taken on this specific issue. Their whole family is a victim of system failure. She has been fighting privately for her family and publicly for other families for years.”
Judge John W. Ouderkirk, a retired private judge who officiated Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s wedding, ruled in May 2021 that the couple would share 50/50 custody of their six children. Jolie expressed concerns that Ouderkirk denied her children the opportunity to testify, despite California law allowing children aged 14 and older to do so.
In response, Jolie filed a petition in the appellate court to have Ouderkirk removed from the case. In July 2021, the appellate court ruled that Ouderkirk should be disqualified due to insufficient disclosure of business relationships with Brad Pitt’s attorneys, effectively ending his involvement in the custody case.
“Judge Ouderkirk was not in business with anyone,” sources close to Pitt’s legal team said. “Like other private judges, he was engaged by both Ms. Jolie’s and Mr. Pitts attorneys on other cases, which he disclosed.” A source close to Brad Pitt reportedly told the Post.
“It’s disappointing but not surprising that she would continue to manipulate the media and the public with [Donald] Trump-like distortions and to deliberately make misrepresentations without any regard for the damage it causes to innocent third-parties just trying to do their jobs.”
“While the legislation she is supporting is potentially very viable, it has nothing to do with her custody case. It is inexplicable why she would use her advocacy for another defamatory effort to disregard all the objective facts in order to advance her own interest.”
If passed, Piqui’s Law, named after a 5-year-old boy who was killed by his father in 2017— also would prevent abused children from being separated from their non-violent parent, as well as block children from going into reunification camps.
Considered by many to be the first supermodel, Gia Carangi was only 26 years old when she died of AIDS-related complications in 1986.
It’s been 25 years since Angelina Jolie starred as Gia Carangi in Gia.
The 1998 HBO television film featured a then-22-year-old Jolie as the real-life Carangi, who was considered by many the world’s first supermodel. She died in 1986 at age 26 of AIDS-related complications, at just 26 years old.
Mila Kunis also appeared in Gia as a younger version of Carangi, in one of her first-ever film roles, while additional cast members included Faye Dunaway, Mercedes Ruehl, Elizabeth Mitchell and Scott Cohen.
Directed by Michael Cristofer (Mr. Robot)and co-written by Cristofer, 78, and Jay McInerney, Gia is about “the life of Gia Carangi, a top fashion model from the late 1970s, from her meteoric rise to the forefront of the modeling industry, to her untimely death,” according to a synopsis from IMDb.
Angelina Jolie Reveals Film Role Kids Say Is Most Like Her: “I Thought That Was Really Interesting”
Carangi was born Gia Marie Carangi in Philadelphia on Jan. 29, 1960, into a working-class family that included two older brothers. Her father Joseph Carangi, who was Italian, owned a restaurant, while her mother, Kathleen Carangi (née Adams), was a homemaker.
In the late 1970s, Carangi was discovered on the dance floor by a local photographer. Her first modeling gig for a major advertisement was with Versace, and she had become a well-known figure at Wilhelmina Models in New York City by 1980, according to The New York Times.
But throughout her catapult to fame, Carangi — who was one of the first openly gay models, Dazed reported — struggled with addiction and substance abuse, including of cocaine and heroin.
Back in 2020, makeup artist Sandy Linter recalled to The Hollywood Reporter that she and Carangi had a romance in the late 1970s that “was never a torrid sexual affair but we did love each other.”
“I was just as shocked as anybody that she became an addict,” Linter said. “She thought she was stronger than the drugs. One morning, as she was getting dressed to leave my apartment she asked, ‘What happened to my natural energy?’ She didn’t have the energy to get dressed at 20 years old. The drugs took everything.”
According to Dazed, Carangi attempted several times to get clean, including going to rehab, but it never stuck. She was diagnosed with AIDS in December 1985, and died of related complications the following November.
Linter told THR that the last time she saw Carangi was in 1983 or 1984, when the model rang her doorbell, then “sat down on my couch with me, put her head on my shoulder and cried.”
“It was the end of our ‘romance.’ I knew it and she knew it. Because she looked so good, I had been tricked into thinking that she was on the road to recovery,” Linter said. “I never knew she had AIDS until later. After maybe 30 minutes, she looked out the window, nodded to someone in the street and left. I would never see her again.”
More than 35 years after Carangi’s death, Gia is still beloved by fans, holding a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%, with an Audience Score of 82%.
Ahead of the movie’s release, Jolie, now 47, told The New York Times in 1997 that she initially “hated” Carangi while doing research about her, based on a 20/20 interview the model once did — but eventually changed her tune and thought, “I’d like to date Gia. I’d want to be her lover.”
In the late 1980s and early 1990s she was a judge in Ethiopia’s high court. Later, she founded the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association to help women in need of legal advice.
One of the most famous cases in which she was involved was made into a movie, with Hollywood star Angelina Jolie serving as executive producer.
She has been replaced as Supreme Court president by Tewodros Mihret, a legal academic, whose appointment was approved by the country’s lower house of parliament on Tuesday.
In a new court filing, Angelina Jolie accused Brad Pitt of choking one of their children and striking another on a 2016 flight.
The former couple has been engaged in a lengthy legal battle since Jolie first filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016. The two have been single since 2019.
The biggest stake in the divorce continues to be the custody arrangements for the couple’s youngest children.
In 2021, Brad Pitt was awarded joint custody of his six children with Angelina Jolie, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to Insider. Page Six first reported the news.
“Pitt has always been seeking the opportunity to have more time with his children and prioritized their well being while the other side did everything to try and stop that,” the source, whose identity is known to Insider but is being withheld due to the nature of the information, told Insider at the time.
If you’re not familiar with the Jolie-Pitt family, here’s a primer on the children in the order they became a part of the Brangie brood.
Maddox was adopted by Jolie in 2002 from Cambodia and originally changed his name from Rath Vibol to Maddox Chivan Thornton Jolie when she was still married to Billy Bob Thornton.
The following year, she opened a foundation in Cambodia (now the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation) which helps provide health care, education, and conservation projects. In 2006, a children’s center was opened under his name in Cambodia’s capital.
Maddox had a small part in Pitt’s 2013 movie “World War Z” where he played a zombie who was shot. Maddox helped his mother with work on a Netflix original film based in his home country of Cambodia. Jolie directed and produced an adaptation of the Loung Ung memoir, “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers.”
“The film will change Mad, but as much as he’s discovering the horrors of the past, he’ll also be discovering the culture before the war, the dignity of his country, how they held their heads up,” Jolie told Vogue in 2015 of Maddox’s role working on the film.
Pitt formally applied to adopt Maddox in 2005 at the same time he applied to adopt the couple’s other adopted daughter, Zahara.
It has also been reported that an alleged fight between Pitt and Maddox on a plane trip may have played a role in Jolie’s decision to file for divorce. In a statement released by Jolie’s attorney at the time of the announcement, it was said the decision to divorce “was made for the health of the family.”
The FBI cleared Pitt of child-abuse allegations in November 2016.
Maddox currently studies at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. In a 2020 interview with Extra, Jolie said Maddox returned to the US to take his classes online. And in February 2021, Maddox showed off a rare look at the large dragon tattoo he has inked on his right rib-cage in a photo British Vogue published of Jolie cutting her son’s hair. The photo was among several intimate at-home snapshots Jolie shared for the magazine’s March cover story.
Maddox celebrated his 21st birthday in August with Jolie and his siblings before helping his sister, Zahara, start her own college journey.
Angelina Joliehas filed court papers accusing ex-husband Brad Pitt of drunkenly attacking her and their children during a private plane flight, prompting her to file for divorce.
In a lawsuit over a French winery that the stars bought, Ms Jolie says Mr Pitt grabbed her by the head and attacked two of their children on the 2016 trip.
Mr Pitt also verbally abused and poured alcohol on his family during the flight from France to Los Angeles, she says.
He denies the allegations.
Ms Jolie’s claim of abusive behaviour by Mr Pitt on the 14 September 2016 flight has emerged in previous court papers, including the Oscar-winning former couple’s divorce settlement.
The incident was investigated by the FBI in 2016. Authorities decided not to press charges.
But new details were alleged in Tuesday’s filing in Los Angeles by Ms Jolie’s legal team. It is part of an ongoing lawsuit over Chateau Miraval SA, a home and vineyard in the south of France that the former Hollywood couple acquired together.
Mr Pitt argues that he and his former wife had agreed not to sell their stakes in the venue without the permission of the other.
Ms Jolie disputes this, and blames Mr Pitt for ending negotiations over purchasing her shares of the property.
Her cross-complaint on Tuesday says the actor was physically and emotionally abusive towards her and their six children – aged 8 to 15 at the time – during the private plane flight.
Her lawyers allege the Fight Club star began shouting, accusing her of being “too deferential to the children”.
Shortly into the flight, Mr Pitt “pulled her into the bathroom” in the back of the plane, says the lawsuit.
“Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall,” the filing adds.

“Pitt then punched the ceiling of the plane numerous times, prompting Jolie to leave the bathroom.”
After one child verbally intervened, Mr Pitt “lunged at his own child”, says the filing.
Ms Jolie then “grabbed him from behind to stop him”, according to the court papers.
“To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow,” the legal filing continues.
“The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.”
Ms Jolie’s lawyers say she and her children “sat still and silent under blankets” for the remainder of the flight.

“Pitt periodically emerged from the back of the plane to yell and swear at them. At one point, he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children,” says the filing.
A source close to the actor told the BBC that Ms Jolie’s claims were false.
“She continues to rehash, revise and reimagine her description of an event that happened six years ago by adding completely untrue information each time she fails to get what she wants,” said the source. “Her story is constantly evolving.”
Last year, a judge awarded joint custody of the children to both parents.
The Miraval estate is located in the village of Correns in south-eastern France, and was bought by the couple for around €25m (£21.3m; $25m) in 2008.
The stars got married there six years later.
Mr Pitt has sued Ms Jolie, claiming that her decision to sell her stake in the estate to a Russian oligarch amounted to an attempt to “undermine” his investment and cause “gratuitous harm” to Mr Pitt, who had “poured money and sweat equity into the wine business”.
Ms Jolie’s lawyers say in their filing that the actress “has gone to great lengths to try to shield their children from reliving the pain Pitt inflicted on the family that day”.
They add that her decision to sell her stake in the venture was in part due to her “growing increasingly uncomfortable with continuing to participate in an alcohol-related business, given the impact of Pitt’s acknowledged problem of alcohol abuse on their family”. Mr Pitt told the New York Times in 2019 that he had joined Alcoholics Anonymous following his split from Ms Jolie.
Ms Jolie’s court filing lays bare the tension between the couple over their plans for the winery.
Mr Pitt, who has previously spoken of his love for architecture and design, decided the chateau needed a fifth pool at a cost of €1m and wanted a staircase to be rebuilt four times, according to Ms Jolie.
In court papers, Angelina Jolie accuses her ex-husband Brad Pitt of beating her and their children while intoxicated while travelling on a private jet, which prompted her to file for divorce.

Mr Pitt, who has previously spoken of his love for architecture and design, decided the chateau needed the fifth pool at a cost of €1m and wanted a staircase to be rebuilt four times, according to Ms Jolie.
In February, Pitt sued Jolie and her former company over what his claim called the “unlawful” sale of her stake in Château Miraval, a country estate and winery in the south of France acquired by the couple in 2008.
A battle over a winery once co-owned by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt continues.
In a countersuit filed this week, obtained by CNN, Nouvel LLC, Jolie’s former company, accused Pitt of “waging a vindictive war against” Jolie and “hijacking” control of the lucrative winery business they once shared.
Pitt and Jolie were married on the property in 2014 and would, according to Pitt’s suit, spend the holidays there as a family.
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016 following a heated encounter aboard a private jet investigated by the FBI.
Nouvel is seeking at least $250 million in compensatory damages.
CNN has reached out to representatives for Pitt and Jolie for comment.
The countersuit states Pitt “masterminded a so-far-successful plan to seize control of Chateau Miraval” and mishandled trademark registrations that had “devastating financial consequences” for Nouvel.
“Pitt has frozen Nouvel out of Chateau Miraval and treats it as his personal fiefdom,” the suit says.
It also says Pitt, “embarked on a multi-faceted, years-long campaign to seize control of Chateau Miraval and appropriate the company’s assets for his benefit and that of his own companies and friends.”
In his claim, Pitt had alleged that Jolie “did nothing to drive (the) growth” of the business, which he turned into a “multimillion dollar international success story.”
Nouvel’s countersuit disputes this, saying “Pitt refused to grant Jolie or Nouvel equal access to Chateau Miraval’s records or an equal voice over management,” effectively “holding the most significant part of her net worth hostage.”
Jolie stepped away from the business in October 2021, selling Nouvel and its stake in Miraval, to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of Stoli Group, controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler.
Pitt’s lawsuit alleges the sale was unlawful because he and Jolie had agreed when they purchased Château Miraval that neither would sell without the other’s consent. But Nouvel’s countersuit alleges Jolie made the sale after negotiations between Jolie and Pitt that would have sold Nouvel to Pitt fell apart over “a provision designed to prohibit Jolie from publicly speaking about the events that had led to the breakdown of their marriage.”
“Pitt knew that much of Jolie’s wealth and liquidity were tied up in Nouvel and used that fact to try to force Jolie to agree to his unreasonable terms,” her countersuit says.
Pitt’s suit did not specify an amount sought for damages but included a request for “relief that the Court deems just and proper.”
A dissolution of Pitt and Jolie’s marriage was granted in 2019, but their legal battle over property and custody of their minor children has continued.
A California appeals court ruled last year that a retired judge who had been hired by both parties to arbitrate the custody dispute should be disqualified because of undisclosed ties to Pitt’s attorneys.
In 2020, Jolie told Vogue India she split with Pitt for the sake of her children.
Pitt told GQ in 2017 he had quit drinking after having been “boozing” too much that past year.
In a June 2022 interview with British GQ, he talked about finding peace recently.
“I always felt very alone in my life,” he told the publication, “alone growing up as a kid, alone even out here, and it’s really not till recently that I have had a greater embrace of my friends and family.”
This story has been updated to correctly reflect that the countersuit against Pitt was filed by Nouvel LLC and not Jolie personally.

Star of “Maleficent,” Angelina Jolie, has some pep in her step as her oldest daughter, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, is enrolling at Spelman College.
The Academy Award-winning actress was spotted practicing the electric slide with her kid while dancing on TikTok.
The mother of six posted on her Instagram that Jolie-Pitt, who she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt, will be attending the historically Black women’s liberal arts school in Atlanta.
Jolie wrote on Instagram beside a photo of her daughter and other young ladies, “Zahara and her sisters from Spelman! Thank you to everyone who is a new student this year. It is both a privilege and a really special place to have a family member join Spelman.”
Back in Los Angeles, the actress got her groove on with her daughter, whom she adopted from Ethiopia.

An Iranian Instagram star famed for posts which appeared to show she had gone to extreme lengths to look like US actress Angelina Jolie has been arrested, reports say.
Sahar Tabar was arrested for crimes including blasphemy and instigating violence, Tasnim news agency reported.
Tabar made international headlines last year when photos of her went viral.
Though she was rumoured to have had 50 plastic surgeries, most of the pictures in her posts had been heavily edited.
Who is Sahar Tabar?
The 22-year-old known as Sahar Tabar has attracted global media attention for pictures and videos in which she resembles what has been described as a zombie version of Angelina Jolie, reports BBC Middle East analyst Sebastian Usher.
With sunken cheeks, a massively plumped up smile and a cartoonishly turned-up nose, she has caused concern over the dozens of cosmetic surgeries she said she had undertaken to resemble the American star.
But after fascinating and horrifying her growing audience on Instagram, she also hinted that much of her ghost-like appearance was down to make-up and digital editing – in effect she had turned herself into a kind of artistic installation.
What do we know about her arrest?
Judicial authorities arrested Tabar after members of the public reportedly made complaints about her, Tasnim reported.
She is accused of blasphemy, instigating violence, illegally acquiring property, insulting the country’s dress code and encouraging young people to commit corruption.
Her Instagram has since been deleted.
She joins a long list of online Iranian influencers and fashion bloggers who have fallen foul of the law.
The report of her detention has sparked online denunciation of the authorities, with one tweet sarcastically suggesting she should have indulged in less incendiary pursuits, such as embezzlement and murder.
