American actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone recently shared insights into their dynamic friendship and past rivalry, acknowledging how their competitive spirit fueled their Hollywood careers.
In a special interview for TMZ Presents: Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons, aired on FOX, the iconic actors delved into their childhoods, families, and the friendly rivalry that defined the action-movie era of the ’80s and ’90s.
Schwarzenegger, 76, remarked, “There’s no denying it: He played a crucial role in my career because he gave me something to strive for.” Stallone, 77, reciprocated, expressing how Schwarzenegger’s arrival in Hollywood motivated him, stating, “He was competition, a challenge, whatever term you prefer.”
Recalling their initial encounters, Stallone humorously reminisced about an incident at the Golden Globe awards when he playfully tossed flowers at Schwarzenegger after their respective wins.
Schwarzenegger admitted, “I kick-started this whole thing with my competitiveness and brash remarks.”
Despite their initial competitive sparks, the duo now shares a strong friendship.
When asked about their mutual admiration, Schwarzenegger praised Stallone’s dedication and passion for filmmaking.
Stallone, in turn, acknowledged Schwarzenegger’s steady demeanour and strategic approach, likening him to a chess player.
