    Awutu Bereku: 4 nabbed in connection with stolen Agenda 111 building materials

    The Ghana Police Service has arrested four individuals for allegedly stealing building materials meant for the construction of an Agenda 111 hospital at Awutu Bereku in the Central Region.

    The arrest, which occurred on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, was made in collaboration with members of the Awutu Bereku community.

    The suspects were apprehended after police intercepted a Man Diesel truck with registration number GT 8715-Z, driven by one of the suspects, identified as Kwabena Ayamba. The truck was loaded with assorted building materials.

    Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly contracted by the project’s contractor to transport the items from the Agenda 111 project site to Tema.

    The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to apprehend the said contractor to face justice.

    The Ghana Police Service has apprehended one person, Nai Akwasi Lartey, who was wielding a pump action gun, in connection with a shooting incident at Awutu Bereku, that has left a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) hospitalised.

    Ato Odoom is receiving medical attention at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba after being shot at while performing with a brass band during the swearing-in of some traditional leaders on Tuesday evening.

    The pump action gun with some BB cartridges has been retrieved from the suspect, who is currently in police custody assisting with investigation.

    The bodyguard of Awutu Senya East MP and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has been implicated in the shooting incident.

    Presently, the Awutu Senya East Municipality branch of the National Democratic Congress is demanding justice.

    Woman dies after being hit by a car at Awutu Bereku

    A hit-and-run driver has killed a woman, believed to be in her 20s, at Awutu Bereku on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway in the Central Region.

    The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 3, 2024.

    According to an eyewitness named Rasta, the tragedy happened after two Sprinter Benz buses made an improper overtaking maneuver.

    One of the Sprinter buses struck the woman, and three other vehicles subsequently ran over her.

    The body has been disfigured beyond recognition.

    Four dead in Awutu Bereku fatal accident, others injured

    A tragic accident in Awutu Bereku, Central Region, has claimed the lives of four individuals and left many others injured.

    The incident, which took place early on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, involved a collision between a tipper truck with registration number GS 2820-21 and a Ford transit with registration number GG 5447-22.

    According to a passenger named Nii Armah, who suffered a cut on his forehead, they were traveling from Accra towards Winneba when the tipper truck, traveling in the opposite direction, lost control and crossed into their lane, resulting in the collision.

    The impact of the crash was devastating, instantly claiming the lives of four individuals and causing injuries to several others, including a toddler.

    The injured victims were promptly transported to St Gregory Hospital for medical attention, while the deceased were taken to the morgue.

    The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the cause of the tragic incident.

  • Man arrested for impersonating police officer

    Isaac Osei, 28, has been arrested by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Awutu Bereku Police Command for posing as a police officer.

    He was arrested on Tuesday during routine checks by the police on the Accra Winneba Highway, heading towards Winneba from Kasoa in a Kia Saloon vehicle.

    Police sources said Osei claimed he was a police officer but when he was asked to provide his documents, he could not do so.

    The police officers on duty became suspicious and requested he stepped down from the vehicle and when his uniform was inspected, it was detected it bore the name ‘Laryea’.

    The suspect immediately removed some SIM cards from his phone and chewed them before the police could begin the interrogation.

    He later confessed he was not an officer and that the uniform belonged to a friend who is a police officer.

    He is currently assisting the police in their investigations at the Awutu Bereku police station.

    A 35-year-old woman is in critical condition after an armed robbery attack at Awutu Edahadaha, a suburb of Awutu Bereku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

    The woman sustained gunshot injuries to her waist after the armed men shot sporadically through the windows of every house after residents failed to open their doors.

    According to some eyewitnesses who spoke to Adom News’ Seth Kofi Adjei, the past four days have been a living hell as their community has become the target for armed thieves.

    Consequently, they revealed that it has become the norm to lock themselves up in their rooms upon hearing the sound of gunshots.

    However, the armed robbers continued terrorizing the residents and resorted to shooting the doors and windows.

    The residents said they witnessed the victim being shot but could not come immediately to rescue her as they were traumatised by the incident.

    The victim has, however, been transported to the Winneba Trauma Hospital.

    The escapees were in detention following their arrest for various offences such as stealing mobile phones, and air-conditioners among others.

    According to a Dailyguidenetwork.com report, the suspects made their move on Monday, November 21, 2022, at about 1 am with the help of a chisel and a hammer.

    Their attempt was in a bid to evade court arraignment within the week.

    The suspects succeeded in breaking the iron bars of the cell but saw their efforts thwarted by the officers on duty who became alarmed by the unusual noise emanating from the cells.

    The Awutu Bereku Police Command has since rounded up the suspects and transferred them to a different police station for safekeeping pending their trial.

  • Suspects in police custody re-arrested after failed escape attempt

    Five individuals made up of three Nigerians and two Ghanaians, who attempted to escape from police custody at the Awutu Bereku District Police Command have been re-arrested.

    The five suspects who had been behind bars for various offences ranging from stealing mobile phones, and air-conditioners among others attempted to break the cell where they were being kept around 1 am on Monday morning with a chisel and a hammer but the intervention of officers on duty prevented them from escaping.

    A Citi News source said the suspects were due for court this week, but attempted to escape to avoid a jail term.

    The individuals according to sources were almost through with their escape plan as they had already broken the metal bars of the cell but were re-arrested by the officers on duty who heard a loud noise from the cells and decided to check only to find out that the suspects were almost done with their escape plan.

    They were subsequently re-arrested and taken to a different cell. Officers on duty have, however, refused to comment on the issue.

  • One shot dead with seven others injured over land dispute at Gomoa

    A 31-year-old man, Quashie Edem has been shot dead while six others sustained cutlass and gunshot injuries in a land dispute at Gomoa Akraman in the Gomoa East District.

    Three of the injured are from Gomoa Akraman while the three others are from Awutu Bereku.

    The faction from Bereku were said to be grading a parcel of land when the group from Akraman stormed the site claiming ownership of the land.

    One of the victims from Gomoa Akraman said they had gone there to halt any developmental activity by the faction from Awutu Bereku.

    Alhaji Dawood, a member of the Bereku faction speaking to the media, debunked the claims that the land was not for the people of Awutu Bereku.

    He said they were grading their own land when the Akraman faction attacked them, shot one of them and injured three others.

    The Central East Regional Police Command had, however, arrested four persons who are assisting with investigations while the dead body had been deposited at the Police hospital morgue for preservation.

    The victims are receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital and Akraman CHPS Compound.
