Properties damaged in another blasting incident at Dabenyin

The company handling the Kasoa-Winneba road expansion project, Nag Fairmount Constructions Limited, has caused significant damage in the Dabenyin area of the Gomoa East District, Central Region, due to another blasting incident.

Several buildings were affected, with rock fragments from the explosion landing on nearby structures.

Among the damaged properties were a fully completed 16-bedroom apartment and a two-bedroom unit still under construction.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in this explosion, unlike the previous Buduburam incident, but the damage to the buildings has raised concerns among the affected residents. Many feel that the authorities have not shown adequate attention to their plight.

Kwadwo Amoah, a resident whose home was damaged, shared his frustration “I called the person who was supposed to come and inspect, but he never came. I took a GHS25,000 loan to roof the building. I don’t want them to come, remove some, and replace them. They should bring someone to change the entire roofing so we all have peace.”

Albert Appiah, another affected resident, expressed similar concerns, stating that the company has yet to respond to his request for roofing repairs.

Issah Rahman, also impacted, described how a stone from the blast ended up in his bedroom, after penetrating the roof.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Gomoa East has completed its assessment of the situation. Robert Nana Hackman, the NADMO director, confirmed in an off-camera conversation with Channel One News that compensation for the affected property owners will be arranged shortly.

Additionally, Hackman mentioned that medical expenses for victims of the Buduburam blast, which occurred on October 14, have been taken care of, although compensation for the destroyed properties from that incident is still pending.

China criticizes US’s approach to the balloon incident

Shifting our attention away from Northern Ireland for a time, Wang Yi, a diplomat for China, speaks at the Munich Security Conference.

Wang commented on a row between his country and the US, after Washington shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon which flew over American territory.

He denounced Washington’s handling of the incident, repeating Beijing’s assertion that the craft was no more than an uncrewed civilian airship which flew off course.

Wang went on to question whether the US planned to shoot down every balloon in Earth’s skies.
