Nigerians are patient and daring – Beverly Afaglo on movie industry support

Ghanaian filmmaker Beverly Afaglo has compared Ghana’s entertainment sector to that of Nigeria’s in terms of financial support.

In an interview on Joy FM on November 12, 2025, the award-winning actress lamented that institutions like banks are hesitant to support the country’s movie industry, but the situation is entirely different if Nigerians are involved.

“Banks are supporting, companies are supporting the business. In Ghana, banks don’t support anything. Even events that are for awards and stuff to recognise hard work, banks are not ready to support these events, how much more a movie,” she stated

Adding that Nigerian banks and private companies actively sponsor and finance creative projects

“Nigerians are daring. They don’t mind putting x amount in the business, provided you’ve assured them that they will get their money back. They don’t care how long; they’re patient. This is what I want too, I will wait and get it back,” she said.

Meanwhile, celebrated British actor and producer, Idris Elba, made a significant contribution to the future of African filmmaking by donating $25,000 to the University of Media Arts and Communication-Institute of Film and Television (UniMAC-IFT) in Accra.

The generous donation, announced during a courtesy visit to the university on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, is aimed at addressing the institution’s infrastructure challenges and advancing its mission to nurture the next generation of filmmakers.

Elba, known for his acclaimed roles in films such as Luther and Beasts of No Nation, expressed his deep passion for the creative industry, particularly for emerging filmmakers in Africa.

His visit to UniMAC-IFT was part of an effort to foster collaboration and support African film education.

He emphasized that Africa’s film industry holds immense potential to become a global storytelling powerhouse with the right partnerships and investments.

The $25,000 donation, made through Elba’s Elba Hope Foundation, will be directed specifically towards infrastructure development at the university.

The funds are expected to help improve facilities and provide students with the resources they need to develop their skills and pursue successful careers in the film and television industry.

During the visit, Elba met with the university’s management and staff, including the rector, Professor Samuel Manasseh Yirenkyi.

The discussion centered on the university’s accomplishments, its challenges, and the potential impact of collaborations with key figures in the global film industry.

Elba also shared his vision for an upcoming studio project designed to offer world-class training opportunities to students from around the globe.

The rector of UniMAC-IFT, visibly moved by Elba’s gesture, expressed his heartfelt gratitude, stating that the donation would make a lasting impact on the university’s growth.

He noted that this contribution would allow the institution to enhance its capacity to train and equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in the competitive global film industry.

Elba’s visit to UniMAC-IFT has not only inspired hope within the institution but also reinforced the importance of international collaborations in strengthening Africa’s creative industries.

As the rain slowed to a gentle drizzle outside, the promise of progress and empowerment for African filmmakers seemed to be a reality that could now be within reach.

Elba’s commitment to African film education and his dedication to helping aspiring filmmakers serves as a beacon of hope, lighting the way for the next generation of creative talent.

His $25,000 donation is a step toward realizing the full potential of Africa’s vibrant and growing film industry.

Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker and comedian, Kwaku Simtim-Misa, widely known as KSM, has offered a candid assessment of Ghana’s movie industry, stressing that it cannot yet be compared to the Nigerian film industry in terms of growth, structure, and contribution.

Speaking on The Career Trail program on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, KSM said that while Ghana is blessed with talented filmmakers and promising content, the absence of a sustainable and efficient system continues to hinder the industry’s growth.

“Unfortunately, it is still a growing industry. We can’t compare the film industry in Ghana to that of Nigeria. The Nigerians have had a longer time of being exposed to making films. And the more they make them, the better they get. The more they produce, the more they devise ways of distributing them. Eventually, you realize you’ve developed a system that works for you,” KSM stated.

On the other hand, he said Ghana’s film industry is still trying to find its feet.

Most filmmakers struggle to raise money at every stage, from writing the story, shooting the film, paying actors, to finally getting the movie out there for people to watch.

“Somebody will hustle to make money, then hustle to pay for the film. And after paying for the film, the actors, and everyone else involved, they now have to hustle again just to distribute the film. There are no proper distribution outlets,” he lamented.

Ghana’s film industry, once vibrant in the CD/DVD era, now struggles with structure, funding, and proper distribution.

Unlike Nigeria’s Nollywood, which has grown into a globally recognized industry through consistent production, strong distribution networks, and digital platforms, Ghana’s sector remains largely informal.

Filmmakers often self-fund and face hurdles getting their movies widely seen.

While a few initiatives and talented individuals are pushing forward, veteran filmmaker KSM says the lack of a solid system continues to limit growth and makes it difficult to compare Ghana’s industry with Nigeria.

  • How my “Traffic Shawarma” business expanded becuase I didnt give up – Beverly Afaglo narrates

How my “Traffic Shawarma” business expanded becuase I didnt give up – Beverly Afaglo narrates

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Beverly Afaglo has shared how perseverance turned her small Shawarma business, Traffic Shawarma, into a growing enterprise despite major setbacks.

Speaking to Irene Adubea Aning on The Career Trail program, she revealed that the decision to start her business coincided with one of the most devastating moments of her life—the loss of her home to a fire.

Beverly recounted how her love for Shawarma began during a trip to Lagos, where she was captivated by its rich flavors and quality. She was determined to introduce the same experience to Ghana after being unimpressed by what was available locally.

“Anytime I visited Lagos, the Shawarma I ate, from different places, was always amazing. I wanted to bring that standard to Ghana because the ones I had here were disappointing,” she shared.

However, before she could fully establish her business, tragedy struck. A fire razed her home, destroying everything, including the items she had started gathering for her new venture.

“I didn’t even have capital yet. All I had was a list, and I was buying things bit by bit. Then, suddenly, I lost my home, and everything was gone. My life had to start all over again,” she recalled.

Despite the setback, she was determined to push forward. She secured a chef from Nigeria to help set up the business, but new challenges emerged. The chef quit his job, forcing her to rent a four-room apartment to accommodate him and proceed with her plan, even though she wasn’t fully prepared.

Starting in a small six-foot container, Beverly and her team spent time perfecting recipes and conducting taste tests with friends. Eventually, Traffic Shawarma was born.

But the road wasn’t smooth. Beverly faced difficulties with her Nigerian chef, and after six months, she had to let him go, even though the timing was far from ideal.

“I had no choice but to let him go. It wasn’t the right time, but I had to make that decision,” she said.

The challenges made her consider shutting down the business. However, her team convinced her otherwise, urging her to train someone new to keep Traffic Shawarma running.

“I was ready to give up, but my team wouldn’t let me. They said, ‘We are not shutting down. You know how to do this—let’s train someone,’” she revealed.

Determined not to let her vision die, Beverly closed the business for two weeks to train a Ghanaian recruit in the recipes and processes since the previous chef had not trained anyone.

“For those who remember, Traffic Shawarma was closed for two weeks in Tema. That was when we focused on training a new person,” she noted.

With resilience and teamwork, they perfected the recipe and successfully reopened. Today, Traffic Shawarma has expanded from a small container into five branches, offering a variety of meals, including burgers. The brand has also launched a franchise, creating opportunities for others.

Beverly encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to remain steadfast in their pursuits, even when faced with adversity.

“Don’t give up. Don’t back down. When you refuse to stop, that’s when you win. It’s tough when you invest money and don’t see immediate returns. It’s hard when you put in work and don’t get the support. But trust me, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Keep going,” she advised.

Meanwhile, this Saturday, March 29, actress and entrepreneur Yvonne Nelson will share her journey on The Career Trail. Make a date.

  • A pretentious life is not profitable in the long run – Beverly Afaglo

A pretentious life is not profitable in the long run – Beverly Afaglo

Beverly Afaglo recently shared her thoughts on social media culture, noting that many people who showcase luxury lifestyles online often do so for the sake of gaining followers.

During an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, the actress expressed her belief that portraying a life of affluence, especially when it doesn’t reflect one’s true circumstances, offers little benefit in the long run.

“People post cars that are not theirs, pose around and talk about them. Some also buy their own cars and announce it was a gift from their man, to praise him, and when they break up, that’s when the embarrassing truth comes out,” she cited.

She highlighted the common practice of people flaunting expensive cars or claiming they received lavish gifts from their partners, only for the truth to emerge after a breakup.

“the speed at which they want to acquire things in life.

“I mean I’m 40. I don’t know why a 25-year-old should drive the car I drive at all cost. That was not even the plan for me when I was 25,” she said.

Afaglo, who described herself as someone who avoids being boastful, emphasized the importance of living authentically.

“It’s unnecessary to always try to impress people. Just live your life,” she advised, explaining that while she’s open to compliments, she doesn’t actively seek validation for her fashion sense or possessions.

Speaking on the pressures faced by younger generations, she cautioned against rushing to acquire material things.

“God can bless you to afford some things. Praise the Lord. A partner could come into your life and give you luxurious things. It’s good. But don’t go and heap on yourself many men, take money from them, put it together and buy that car or rent a place in East Legon because you want to create an impression that you are a big girl [successful and significant].

“If you do this, you’ll find yourself living the life of a prostitute. Eventually, not wanting to be disgraced because of rent will force you into a tight corner,” she said.

“The over-speeding in life is too much. If you are made to feel as though you’re lagging behind, retort: ‘How old am I? I have a long way ahead of me,” the award-winning actress encouraged.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, as reported by graphic.com.gh, Afaglo discussed how her busy schedule impacts her relationship with her daughters, whom she shares with Praye Honeho, a former member of the musical group Praye.

Afaglo revealed the guilt she feels over not spending enough quality time with her children due to her numerous commitments. Her schedule is packed with events, interviews, and the demands of managing her business, Traffic Shawarma, leaving her with little time for her family.

“I have very tight schedules as an actress and entrepreneur, and I must say that sometimes, it affects my children because I don’t get to spend as much time with them as I should,” she confessed. “They miss out on quality time and attention from me.”

She further shared her children’s discomfort with the public attention she receives. “My children don’t like the cameras, so when we go out and people recognise me and want to take pictures with all of us, they don’t like it,” Afaglo explained.

Before rising to fame as an actress, Afaglo hosted TV3’s Music Music and Beauty & Style on Metro TV.

She made her acting debut in Venus Film’s “The Return of Beyonce” and has since featured in several movies, including “Single Six,” “Big Girls Club,” and “King’s Bride.”

  • ‘We aren’t producing enough movies’ – Fiifi Coleman on the decline of Ghana movie industry

‘We aren’t producing enough movies’ – Fiifi Coleman on the decline of Ghana movie industry

Ghanaian playwright and producer Fiifi Coleman has recently voiced support for actress Beverly Afaglo‘s criticism of the country’s film industry.

Speaking on Hitz FM on July 18, 2024, Coleman highlighted significant issues including low production rates and limited visibility for Ghanaian films.

He emphasized that only six movies had been produced from January to July, none by major studios.

Coleman attributed this decline to financial constraints, echoing Afaglo’s concerns about producers struggling to recover their investments.

“They are not producing a lot of movies. There’s nothing. As a country from January to July, we are saying that we have produced six movies and these movies are not by the big houses… These movies that you’re talking about, no one knows about them.

“There are not enough being produced. And I don’t blame the producers because she (Beverly Afaglo) also mentioned it. They are investing to make money back and they are not getting it,” he said.

Coleman also addressed the criticism that Ghanaian movies are predictable, arguing that predictability itself isn’t the issue.

Instead, he pointed to the lack of engaging plot twists and the journey leading to the story’s conclusion as key areas needing improvement.

“When we watch the Marvel movies, we know exactly who is going to win at the end of the day. So that really doesn’t kill a story or doesn’t kill creativity.

“That is not what is bringing us down. We always know the end of every movie. But that never stopped anyone. What has been the issue is the processes of getting to the end, the processes that we go through, the plot twists. That is what the issue has always been, but not just identifying the ends of the story,” he said.

Reflecting on his industry experience, Coleman expressed frustration with distribution challenges, noting that many produced films remain unseen due to inadequate platforms.

Overall, Coleman’s comments underscore the urgent need for diverse storytelling and improved distribution to revitalize the Ghanaian film industry.
“They are producing the movies, but who is watching the movie?” he questioned.

Ghanaian actress Beverly Afaglo has expressed her frustration over the lack of opportunities for ‘old’ actors in the local movie industry. In an Instagram post, she pointed out that 80% of the established actors are not getting cast in new projects.

“How many of the old faces do you producers and directors cast anyway? 80% ain’t working. What is going on? Shoutout to all the producers holding us down. The industry needs you. Keep going,” she wrote.

Beverly shared that she has only participated in two productions this year: the YouTube series ‘Yaa Basabasa’ and a movie by Steve Ekeso. She urged producers to consider her for future roles, emphasizing her versatility and willingness to work.

She added, “I think I am getting bored. I have done only two productions this whole year. Where are the producers and directors? Forgotten about me? I’m a versatile actor oo. I can do it all. Or you say you want new faces? Or you can’t pay me? Try me.”

Beverly is known for her roles in films such as ‘I Love You But’, ‘Return of Beyonce’, ‘Crime to Christ’, ‘Never Again’, ‘Single Six’, ‘Bachelors’, ‘The King’s Bride’, ‘A Northern Affair’, ‘The Game’, and ‘Sidechic Gang’. She won Best Actress in Comedy at the 2010 Terracotta Awards in Nigeria and has received multiple nominations in various award schemes.

Actress Beverly Afaglo has shared her reasons for abandoning Facebook, revealing the overwhelming negativity and insults she encountered on the platform.

In an interview on Adom TV’s Okukuseku with Emelia Brobbey, Beverly recounted becoming the target of cyberbullying after a GoFundMe campaign was created to help her rebuild her life following a devastating house fire.

She described the harrowing night when she lost everything, explaining that the police had prevented her from entering the house to salvage any belongings for safety reasons.

“I could not sleep because I was traumatized,” she recalled, adding that the only items she had were the t-shirt and leggings she was wearing.

Despite the tragedy, she expressed relief that her children were safe and they spent the night at her sister’s house.

In the aftermath, fellow actress Yvonne Nelson suggested starting a GoFundMe campaign to help Beverly rebuild. Although she initially relied on her supportive family, Beverly realized that rebuilding would be difficult and agreed to Yvonne’s idea.

However, the campaign led to unexpected backlash, as Beverly received numerous insults and attacks, particularly on Facebook.

“People insulted me on Instagram and other apps, but Facebook was the worst. I didn’t know where the attacks were coming from because imagine I had lost everything and I was still being targeted,” she noted.

To preserve her peace of mind, Beverly has not returned to Facebook since the incident in August 2021.

Invest your money, fame fades, people will still look up to you – Beverly Afaglo to fellow creatives

Actress Beverly Afaglo is urging fellow creatives to diversify their income sources by investing in businesses to ensure financial stability during industry downtimes.

Afaglo emphasizes that the increasing competition in showbiz could lead to fewer job opportunities for actors.

Nevertheless, by venturing into entrepreneurial pursuits, they can establish a steady stream of income.

She cites examples from Hollywood, such as 50 Cent and Jay Z, who have found success as business moguls alongside their careers in entertainment.

“My advice is to invest in business because after fame fades, people still look up to you. That’s why you have to tap into this,” Afaglo advises.

She expands on her point, highlighting 50 Cent’s water brand and Jay Z’s diverse business endeavors, underscoring the necessity of investing for long-term financial stability.

Afaglo underscores the significance of entrepreneurship not only for sustaining relevance beyond fame but also for ensuring financial security.

In alignment with her advice, Beverly Afaglo has recently introduced the Traffic Shawarma franchise, expressing confidence that her dedicated audience will back her ventures owing to their trust in her reputation.

  • Invest in businesses; your relevance has a limit – Beverly Afaglo’s advice to creatives

Actress Beverly Afaglo is encouraging fellow creatives in the industry to diversify their income streams by investing in businesses.

She emphasized that this step is crucial to ensure financial stability during periods of reduced acting opportunities.

Afaglo points out that with an increasing number of individuals entering the Showbiz sector, actors may not receive daily calls for work.

However, by venturing into business endeavors, they can secure an ongoing source of income.

She elaborates, citing examples from Hollywood where celebrities like 50 Cent and Jay Z have become successful business owners alongside their entertainment careers.

“My advice to them is to invest in business because after the fame and everything, people still look up to you for many things and  that’s why you have to tap into this.

“In Hollywood, we have the likes of 50 Cent, Jay Z being owners of companies. 50 Cents has water, Jay Z has different businesses. You need to invest into something and definitely because they love you, they will be able to be part of you and it works like this because at the end of the day, it will get to a point where you won’t be called everyday. Younger ones are coming, there might not be roles for you, how you look, how you act, but when you have invested into something, then it’s definitely going to help,” Beverly Afaglo stated.

Afaglo emphasises the importance of tapping into entrepreneurship, as it not only provides financial security but also maintains one’s relevance beyond the spotlight.

In line with her advice, Beverly Afaglo has recently launched the Traffic Shawarma franchise.

She expressed confidence in her brand, believing that her loyal audience will support her ventures due to their trust in her credibility.

“I believe people trust my brand and anything I put out there till now, people know that whatever I bring into the system is legit and so far they are happy.”

Afaglo’s message underscores the necessity for industry players to look beyond immediate fame and invest in sustainable income-generating activities for long-term financial well-being.

  • Being a wife and mother affected the pace of my career -Beverly Afaglo

Being a wife and mother affected the pace of my career -Beverly Afaglo

Ghanaian actress Beverly Afaglo revealed that while she is currently thriving in the movie industry, being a wife and mother had a detrimental impact on her career.

During a recent interview on Accra-based Kingdom FM, the mother of two shared a story of losing a role in a series due to her commitment to fulfilling her motherly responsibilities.

Beverly recalled that at the time, her first daughter who was then at six months always wanted to be breastfed before going to bed.

After staying late into the night on set, her mother started calling her to come home to breastfeed her daughter who always breastfed before going to bed.

She mentioned that since the production, which was set to end at 5: 00pm had prolonged, everyone started complaining but she was more worried about her baby and mentioned it on set.

Unfortunately, the producer called to tell her that she should stay home to perform her motherly duties and her role was taken off in subsequent editions of the series.

“Being married definitely slowed me down because some of the directors told me they couldn’t cast me for certain roles which I played previously because I’m a wife.

“I love that they give me such respect but as an actress, it is my duty to act irrespective of my marital status; so if I can perfectly play a role, I don’t see the reason why I should not be given the chance,” she stated.

The actress who has gained popularity for her roles in movies such as “Single Six”, “Turn Me On”, “Bachelor’s”, “Equatorial Escape”, “Girls Connection” , “ Northern Affair” and “Aloe Vera” said she is not bothered by that considering that a number of female celebs like Beyonce and Ghanaian singer, Becca among many others have been through similar situations.

“Look at Beyonce, because she is a big brand, her team is able to push her works when she brings something out but we know all that this is the Beyonce we knew before marriage because being a wife and a mother affected her.

“Same with Becca, she was very loud and everywhere but that is not happening with her now. You have colleagues you started with, they are single so they will keep working and then, childbirth also slows you down since you can be off for a year and half.

“And then by the time you get back to business, people have taken over your position,” she noted.

Ghanaian actress, Beverly Afaglo, has opened up about the challenges associated with celebrity marriages, revealing that a lot is always expected from the couple.

A graphiconline.com report cited Beverly, who has been married to the Choirmaster of Praye for 11 years, as explaining celebrity marriages can be a bit more expensive than others.

“Celebrity marriage is just like any other marriage, except that it is a bit more costly because both of you are in the limelight, so a lot is expected from you than other families.

“Like what you wear, what car you drive, the school your children attend, etc. Apart from that, it is just like any other marriage like I stated earlier. Nobody goes like ‘I am a celebrity’ because if you do that, you are not ready for marriage,” she said.

Beverly also shared why she keeps her family away from social media, saying, “There is really nothing to put out there. People know we are married, people know we are great together, people know we are in love, and they also know we are a celebrity couple, so I am not trying to prove anything.”

The Agency actress expressed her concern about the lack of interest among young people who aspire to join the Ghanaian movie industry.

She finds it mind-boggling that many aspiring actors seem to know very little about the industry.

“When you sit as a judge on an audition panel, you realize that most of these aspirants don’t even watch our movies, they don’t know the already established actors, they haven’t been to any premiere before, nothing. How then do you want to be an actor when you know nothing about the industry you want to join?

“And you just get up and you want to be an actor just because you want to be popular? If you really want to be like us, you should be able to attend our movie premieres, our stage plays, etc. and even convince others to do the same,” she added.

Recounting her ordeal, she said young men and women who cry out for being unemployed fail to deliver when offered an opportunity by business owners and instead collapse the market with their unprofessional attitude.

“It is not easy running a business in Ghana. People will sabotage you and getting workers is tough. People are always crying on social media about unemployment. It is all a lie because they don’t need any job, they are lazy.

“The youth are lazy because they think that once you are born, you start walking…it is a process but without any experience, they expect so much…we consider transportation and all that but the people after experiencing the pressure at work are quick to quit after two weeks…riders can also stress you,” she disclosed.

The mother of two explained how she deals with unserious employees who exhibit a lack of commitment.

She added: “When you show such an attitude I will fire you but I am the kind of person who will embrace you.”

  • Celebrities are not demigods; we are also flesh and blood – Beverly Afaglo tells trolls

Ghanaian actress Beverly Afaglo has reminded trolls that celebrities are also human beings.

In a Graphic Showbiz report, she mentioned that she’d like to know what goes through the minds of trolls when they write derogatory things about celebrities.

“Celebrities are not demigods. We are also flesh and blood, just as every other person, and the negative things people say to us, in the name of trolling, badly affect us. Some people say it comes with being a celebrity or it comes with the job so just as you enjoy the positive side, accept or live with the negatives too, but it’s not that easy because we are humans.

“Sometimes, I sincerely want to know why these people, who sit behind their computers or use their phones, feel when they insult or make derogatory remarks about others on social media,” he said.

Beverly claimed that she would be interested in seeing how her trolls would fare if the roles were reversed and they were put in her place.

She continued by saying that although she had grown to expect to be teased, she wouldn’t take it well if her family were to be involved.

“I always say that should the tables turn and they find themselves in our shoes, will they be able to take what they throw at us? The times that we live in seem to be defined by celebrity abuse, directed at them via social media.

“There is just no escape from trolling and the worst part is that people today need no reason to peddle hate, especially at celebs. I have come to accept the happenings and I’m getting used to it. But what I won’t accept is when trolls drag my family into it,” she added.

Furthermore, she stated that she is constantly saddened when trolls draw her family into their cruel comments and that it has a psychological impact on them.

“It really hurts me when my family, siblings, children and husband are dragged into that kind of a mess. Yes, my husband is also a celebrity but when trolls feel they want to be on my case because of an issue that has happened, I would very much appreciate it if my family is left out.

“It is really psychologically draining to watch your family being subjected to public ridicule and insults just because you are a popular figure and people feel entitled to be part of your life. I’m the one in your face. So, do whatever you want to do with me just don’t attack my family, children and siblings,” she disclosed.

  • Trolling bad for celebs’ mental health — Beverly Afaglo

For many outside the world of fame, celebrities should have tough skin to handle both positive and negative criticisms since they are public figures, and should not take opinions personally, especially the unsavoury ones.

That is probably the conviction of internet trolls who have made it their ‘official’ assignment to be on the case of public figures on social media most of the time.

But while trolls seem to enjoy the attention that comes with deliberately provoking popular persons on social media, actress Beverly Afaglo is asking such people to take into consideration the mental health of celebrities.

In a chat with the Daily Graphic, the Agency actress, who has had her fair share of the “poisonous bites” of trollers, said it was a sorry situation that people cared less about the feelings of celebs.

“Celebrities are not demigods. We are also flesh and blood, just like every other person, and the negative things people say to us, in the name of trolling, badly affects us. Some people say it comes with being a celebrity or the job so just as you enjoy the positive side, accept or live with the negatives too, but it’s not that easy because we are humans.

“Sometimes, I sincerely want to know why these people, who sit behind their computers or use their phones, feel when they insult or make derogatory remarks about others on social media. I always say that should the tables turn and they find themselves in our shoes, will they be able to take what they throw at us?” she said.

    What is troll?

The term ‘troll’ is an online slang referring to someone who maliciously harasses, attacks or cyberbullies others. They might take your words out of context, spam you with offensive content or even engage in racist, homophobic, misogynistic, or otherwise hateful rhetoric.

But while many of such faultfinders defend themselves under the pretext of constructive criticisms, Beverly says there is a difference between constructive criticism and trolling.

She explained that the latter is often rooted in a generalised opinion about stars, their privilege, and then, of course, attention-seeking jealousy and personal amusement.

“The times that we live in seems to be defined by celebrity abuse, directed to them via social media. There is just no escape from trolling and the worst part is that people today need no reason to peddle hate, especially at celebs. I have come to accept the happenings and I’m getting used to it.”

“But what I won’t accept is when trolls drag my family into it. It really hurts me when my family, siblings, children and husband are dragged into that kind of mess. Yes, my husband is also a celebrity but when trolls feel they want to be on my case because of an issue that has happened, I would very much appreciate if my family is left out.”

“It is really psychologically draining to watch your family being subjected to public ridicule and insults just because you are a popular figure and people feel entitled to be part of your life. I’m the one in your face. So, do whatever you want to do with me just don’t attack my family, children and siblings,” she added.

    Clap back

Apart from Beverly Afaglo, a number of celebrities, especially females, have publicly expressed their mental battle with trolling.

Last month, actress Gloria Osei Sarfo was the toast of trolls who used unprintable words on her after she posted a picture of herself without makeup.

The likes of TV personalities such as Serwaa Amihere, Nana Aba Anamoah; singers S3fa and Wendy Shay, as well as Lydia Forson, among a host of others, have been subjected to the ‘attacks’ of social media bullies who sometimes succeed in luring them (celebs) into a combative argument.

While some celebrities choose to ignore the trolls, some who have developed tough skins don’t relent in responding to their trolls in equal measure.

For Beverly, clapping back at these keyboard warriors was a means for her colleagues to defend themselves.

“Nobody wants to have fights with a troll. But sometimes, you also need to defend yourself and the only way is through a clap back. You know that these bullies also peddle lies so that is the only way you can defend yourself,” she said.

Beverly Afaglo made her acting debut in the early 2000s and has since endeared herself to movie lovers for her roles in Terminus, Unchartered Path, Single Six, The Return of Beyonce, Aloe Vera, A Northern Affair, The Game, Hotel Babylon and Crime to Christ.

In 2010, she was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (English) at the Ghana Movie Awards. She is also a recipient of Terracotta Awards (Nigeria) for Best Actress in Comedy in 2010.

    Movie industry

Speaking on the state of the Ghana movie industry, the mother of two said she doesn’t subscribe to the perception that the industry has failed.

“Of course, the way we used to do our things, including going to the cinemas or selling CDs has changed with the advent of digital and streaming platforms.”

“We just need to vigorously promote our works on these platforms so that people get to know what we are doing. I believe we will overcome the challenges,” she stated.

  • Beverly Afaglo confesses to using toys to attain orgasm in marriage

Ghanaian actress Beverly Afaglo and wife of Eugene Baah of Praye music group fame has revealed that she uses sex toys to attain orgasm.

According to her, her husband is not able to give her the level of satisfaction she desires in bed, therefore, she uses sex toys as a back-up.

This is contained in a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on 3news.com

Afaglo reportedly made this confession in an interview with 3FM with Etornam Sey as host.

She explained that before marriage, “I was exposed, very exposed [to sex]”, but her husband did not know.

The actress added that she pretended to be a good girl and played holy during their courtship, and so her husband never suspected her of anything.

Now, after being married for five years, Afaglo said she does not remember the last time she had an orgasm during sex, and so she had to use the sex toys.

According to her, most men are lazy and would not invest enough time into foreplay before sex, making the whole encounter boring and lacking pleasure.

To her, sex toys help women to get to their highest sexual climax that no man can ever do, therefore, she can’t stop using it.

Meanwhile, Afaglo was in the news recently for being criticised by her fans over some semi-nude photos she shared.

The fans bashed her for going nude for fame.
