George Opesika Agudey’s passion for luxury cars revisited

Back in 2006, renowned broadcaster Bola Ray had the opportunity to tour the lavish 11-bedroom mansion of businessman and politician George Opesika Agudey, who was then the flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

The visit revealed Agudey’s deep passion for luxury cars, with his impressive collection of high-end vehicles proudly on display.

Agudey, known for his love of automobiles, owned over thirty luxury cars, including brands like Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW, as well as several SUVs. Speaking about his preference, he noted that while he once favored American cars, their maintenance challenges in Ghana made him shift focus.

“American cars used to be my favorite, but servicing them in Ghana is a problem, so I will stick to BMW and Mercedes,” he told Bola Ray.

Among his prized possessions was a Porsche Carrera, which he described as a “sweet” and beautiful car. However, he emphasized the importance of choosing vehicles that are easy to maintain in Ghana.

“In this country, you have to be careful about the cars you buy because eventually, you will face the servicing bills. You have to buy cars that can be handled easily,” he explained.

Beyond his enthusiasm for cars, Agudey also expressed deep patriotism, stressing the need for every Ghanaian to contribute to national development.

“However young or old you are, you must think and feel Ghanaian, and you must also understand that it will take the concerted effort of every single Ghanaian to make sure we have a country called Ghana to live in. We are lucky to be in this part of the world where God is giving us everything free of charge,” he remarked.

I’ll not honor a gov’t that can’t get its priorities right – John Dumelo to NPP

Renowned Ghanaian actor, politician, and farmer John Dumelo has sharply criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its handling of educational priorities.

In a recent interview on Bola Ray’s Starr Chat, Dumelo condemned the government’s emphasis on distributing laptops and tablets, dismissing it as unworthy of praise.

Dumelo argued that the country faces more pressing challenges in education that demand immediate attention.

He highlighted the stark realities of students lacking basic necessities like shelter and food, making the laptop and tablet distribution initiative appear trivial in comparison.

“The educational sector is grappling with far more urgent issues than distributing laptops and tablets. Students are struggling to find a place to sleep and enough to eat, yet the government is fixated on these gadgets,” Dumelo remarked.

Expressing disappointment, Dumelo asserted that the government’s actions merit no commendation or recognition. “I refuse to salute the government for such superficial gestures. Students deserve substantial improvements,” he emphasised.

Dumelo’s critique underscores the need for a reevaluation of priorities within the education sector, urging authorities to address fundamental challenges rather than focusing on superficial initiatives.

  • Bola Ray queries ECG for disconnecting Parliament but he gets a witty reply

Bola Ray queries ECG for disconnecting Parliament but he gets a witty reply

Ghanaian radio presenter, Nathan Kwabena Adisi also known as Bola Ray, on Thursday interviewed the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama on Starr FM.

The subject for discussion was the disconnection of power supply to Parliament when the House was deliberating on the 2024 State of the Nation Address presented by President Akufo-Addo on February 29.

The host, Bola Ray asked Mr Mahama, “Why did you do that, Parliament was in session. They were debating the State of the Nation Address and you got your men out there to disconnect the arm of government. Why so?”

Mr Mahama replied with a question. He said, “Parliament was working. What was ECG doing?”

Quickly, Bola Ray responded “ECG was working.” The host was definitely ready for Mr Mahama’s dismissive response.

He said, “Okay, next question”, implying that Parliament’s work is not more important than that of the ECG.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Clerk of Corporate and Financial Management Services Division in Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, has refuted claims that Parliament is indebted to the tune of GH¢23 million to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, there was a power outage in Parliament House and Job 600, the office complex for Members of Parliament, attributed to the purported GH¢23 million debt, as part of the ongoing “Operation Zero Balance” initiative by the ECG.

In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Ahumah Djietror clarified that Parliament does not owe the stated amount, asserting that the house has been making payments. He acknowledged occasional discrepancies, citing failures in the ECG’s system to accurately record the payments.

According to him, Parliament made a GH¢13 million payment on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, reducing the outstanding debt to approximately GH¢12 million.

He emphasized that they possess records of all payments made as evidence.

He said, “As far as we are concerned, we’ve made payment, all the payment we have made, some have not reflected in their system, that’s what I’m saying, some do not reflect in their system. We have a breakdown, so we showed it to the Deputy Managing Director, we are just coming from his office. I said they should reconcile the account. We are going to get the bank to extract all the payments we’ve made in terms of the dates. I’m not sure how it’s captured, so there’s a gap in terms of the reconciliation as to what is the outstanding bill.”

Mr. Ahumah Djietror expressed the situation in Parliament as unfortunate and assured that efforts are underway to reconcile the accounts and settle the outstanding balance.

Hiplife is no longer alive; I have failed the young generation – Okyeame Kwame

Legendary rapper Kwame Nsiah-Apau known professionally as Okyeame Kwame expressed disappointment in the current state of hiplife in Ghana, asserting that the genre is in a coma.

Okyeame Kwame asserted he bears responsibility for not passing it on to the next generation.

In an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Okyeame Kwame explained that the lack of young artists interested in carrying the torch for hiplife is a major issue.

He further admitted that he and other pioneers have failed the younger generation of hiplife artists.

Comparing the success of hiplife in the Western world to Ghana, Okyeame Kwame emphasised that not enough has been done to uphold the genre in Ghana.

He noted that the passing of the mantle, as seen with artists like Big Daddy Kane and Jay Z, has not been effectively implemented in Ghana.

“People like myself have failed the young generation completely, because when I took on the mantle of hiplife in 1996, the last thing I knew was anthropology, sociology or marketing. I didn’t know I was supposed to carry this thing upfront and give it to someone else.

“This thing we’re doing, this is not how it’s done. Big Daddy Kane will carry to a point and give it to Jay Z, Jay Z will give it to another person, another person will give it to Kanye, that is how we keep it moving,” Okyeame Kwame stated.

Fadda Dickson sacked me but Bola Ray, Emmanuel Adebayor accepted my apology – Funny Face

In the recent hours, the comedian and skit maker known as Funny Face has gained widespread attention on social media.

This surge in popularity follows an emotional post in which he opened up about the current challenges he is facing in making a living.

He attributed these difficulties to certain regrettable decisions made during his mental breakdown approximately four years ago, particularly when issues arose with his ex-wife.

In the shared post, Funny Face went on to allege that some of his colleagues have been actively working against him by discouraging brands from collaborating with him.

He was quick to add that while Bola Ray and Emmanuel Adebayor accepted his apology, Fadda Dickson on the other hand sacked him and stressed he did not want to see him.

Funny Face further indicated that he actually understand Fadda Dickson because he is human and was obviously pained that he said those things about him at the time he went on rampage.

He prayed that Fadda Dickson heals soon from the pains he caused him with his words and forgive him.

Are you the only educated family fit to be in govt? – Bola Ray asks Gabby

A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a close confidant of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Gabby Otchere-Darko, found himself in the hot seat as Ghanaian media personality and host of Starr Drive, Bola Ray, pressed for clarity on the allegations of nepotism and the pervasive issue of “family and friends” within the government.

The debate over nepotism in government appointments is not new to Ghanaian politics. Over the past years, successive governments have been accused, especially by their opponents, of employing their family and friends to occupy key positions in the government.

The current administration is no exception to governments that have been accused of nepotism. Speaking on the subject, Otchere-Darko, who is a cousin of President Akufo-Addo defended the current administration on the number of relatives associated with the President who are occupying key government positions.

He asserted that his grandfather fathered over 100 children whom and many grandchildren he made sure to educate and of whom all are qualified to occupy key positions in government.

“My grandfather had over 100 children and we have his diaries. In his diaries, he made sure he educated all his children…and most of us [members of his family] have dedicated our lives to public service,” he said.

In view of his remarks Bola Ray questioned whether Gabby’s family was the only qualified family to be in government.

“Are you the only people who are good to be in government because you have the numbers?” Bola queried.

Bola Ray’s question reflects the broader sentiment among Ghanaians, who seek transparency and fairness in the appointment of officials.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong conveyed that being entangled in such a predicament is a challenging ordeal, and he added that even with substantial wealth, it may prove difficult to rectify.

In a Twitter post, Mr. Agyapong, who has kids with five different women, said, “I won’t advise any young man to have multiple women only if you knew the problems I go through.”

He reiterated such opinions during a conversation with Bola Ray on Starchat.

“I did it when I was young; looking back, I am advising my kids now not to do such things. Although my joy is in the kids, the problems are a lot. The children are always together so when you buy a business class for one, you have to buy for all,” he added.

Bullet holds that: “There’s a spirit that deals with [ungrateful] people” and this accounts for why artistes experience failure when they “bang the door” behind them and leave their managers.

He explained he found this out the hard way and bemoaned that: “People have not really understood how this life works.”

Noting that “It happened to us: Ruff N Smooth,” he reminisced on how, despite media executive Bola Ray’s abundant help, he and his group mate, abandoned him for another manager.

“I always say that the things Bola Ray has done for me, in my life, my father and no one else has done that for me but at a point in time, we had to move on from him [and] instead of sitting with him and respectfully informing him that it was time for us to move and ask for his blessing, we did not,” he narrated.

“We had met someone else and flippantly claiming we did not have a contract with Bola, we left,” Bullet revealed and noted the dark times that almost swiftly followed their unprofessional exit.

“From that time, any song we worked on was not successful. Bola did not seek black magic against us, let’s be clear. It was not necessary for him to even do that. Nature and [principles] God has placed on the earth” were responsible, the singer and music executive stressed.

In view of this, he took a moment and admonished artistes not to be puffed up thinking they are self-made “stars,” and cautioned them to be mindful in their dealings with people who wholeheartedly help them even if it is not financially.

He also stressed on the lengths to which managers go to help artistes and said it sometimes goes beyond the contract signed.

“I may be managing you and making no money out of it,” Bullet illustrated. “You may even come to me for money to take care of your mother. That’s surely not part of the business. We do things beyond the business” so you cannot insinuate that I have done nothing for you and ask me sarcastically “that are you God?”

“Was it God who invested his money in you? He used a human being to do it and in that position, that human is your god and so when you fight that person, you are actually messing with God,” he postulated.

Mr Bullet Agyemang maintained there is no “record label boss or manager who will go somewhere and pray or chant for the downfall of an artiste when they fallout. It won’t happen because the label boss [already] knows karma is real.”

And returning to Bola Ray, he spoke about making amends.

“I once had a dream that I had gone to Bola’s place to plead for forgiveness. And on the day I actually went to see him, the suit I saw him in in the dream was the same one he was wearing. When I went there, I held his leg and said, ‘Boss, I’ve messed up. Forgive me.’ I took my uncle along to say sorry.”

Bola, accepting the apology, said in response: “Etuo [Bullet’s former name], you’re my boy,” he revealed.

Ruff (Bullet) N Smooth (Akhan) came to prominence on the back of their 2010 album ‘Swagger’ which housed hits like its title track, ‘Azingele’, ‘Martha (Sex Machine)’ and ‘Naija Baby’.

The group is not as active as it used to be. In 2018, manager Theophilus Amoah Baah denied that the group has disbanded. According to him, Bullet and Ahkan are concentrating on individual projects.

It would appear, the last time the award-winning group released music was in 2017:‘Medicine’ featuring Baafour. Before this, they had the 2016 hit ‘Shabba’.

  • Sad video: Kumasi-based Abusua Fm owned by Bola Ray turns into an “Information Center”

The atmosphere in the Ghanaian media space is not something to reminisce and laugh at considering how radio personalities who are loud behind the console are damn broke in the real world.

Back to the subject matter, all is not well with Kumasi-based Abusua 96.5 FM, a subsidiary of Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network, taking into consideration the content of footage available to theBBCghana.com.

According to Real Talk Tv, the current state of Abusua 96.5 Fm is no diffract from an “Information Centre” largely due to the fact that only 3 presenters are left at the one-time vibrant radio station in Kumasi.

The source linked the current predicament of Abusua FM to the financial crisis faced by Bola Ray, owner of Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network.

The source further added that Abusua Fm now runs their own programs only between the hours of 1 p.m 6 p.m on weekdays.

The source (Real Tv) mentioned that one Austine Woode is now the livewire of the radio station who runs Abusua Fm from 1 p.m 6 p.m on weekdays. Therefore, if he resigns, the station might collapse.
