Season two of ANIKULAPO to be shot in Ghana

Celebrated Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan revealed during the recently concluded Cannes Film Festival in France that a portion of ANIKULAPO’s second season would be filmed in Ghana, supporting the “Shoot in Ghana” initiative led by the National Film Authority.

This announcement was made by Mr. Afolayan at the Nigeria International Film and TV Summit (NIFS) in Cannes, attended by various industry experts and media personalities.

Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, CEO of Ghana’s National Film Authority, facilitated this agreement in France and was present at the summit when the news broke.

Ms. Asante described this as a significant step, highlighting the potential to reinvigorate and strengthen film ties between Ghana and Nigeria.

She emphasized the mutual benefits of deep collaboration and market exploration between the two countries.

Additionally, Mr. Afolayan’s commitment to education was noted, with his KAP Academy having trained over 10,000 students across Nigeria and other African regions.

The inclusion of Ghana as a filming location for ANIKULAPO is expected to create employment opportunities for many Ghanaians, including those outside the film industry, fostering skills transfer during the production phase.

ANIKULAPO, a Netflix original film and television series, has gained global recognition.

Ms. Asante encourages filmmakers worldwide to consider Ghana as a prime location for their projects. Ghana’s “Shoot in Ghana” campaign, initiated two years ago, has already achieved significant milestones, such as hosting the highly acclaimed Super Bowl advertisement and other undisclosed successes.

Ukrainian model files complaint against Cannes Festival for red carpet assault by security guard

Ukrainian model Sawa Pontyjska has filed a legal complaint against the Cannes Film Festival, alleging that she was assaulted by a security guard on the red carpet.

Pontyjska claims she was “brutally” restrained while trying to enter a cinema with a valid ticket, resulting in physical and psychological harm.

The incident, captured on video and widely viewed on TikTok, shows her struggling with the guard before being taken inside by additional security.

Pontyjska is seeking €100,000 in damages and has received no response from the festival organizers.

Other celebrities, including Kelly Rowland, Yoona, and Massiel Taveras, also reported altercations with the same guard. The festival’s strict rules on guest movement on the red carpet have been noted as a contributing factor.

  • FIFA declines Ukrainian president’s request to deliver a live global peace message ahead of World Cup final

FIFA turned down Volodymyr Zelensky’s request to deliver a message of world peace before the World Cup final kicked off on Sunday, a source told CNN.

According to the source, Zelensky’s office offered to appear in a video link to spectators in the stadium in Qatar before the game and was taken aback by the response. It’s not clear if Zelensky would deliver a live or recorded message.

“We thought FIFA wanted to use its platform for the greater good,” the source said.

However, talks between Ukraine and the sport’s governing body are still underway, the source added.

The request, while unorthodox, is unsurprising. Kyiv has repeatedly tried to use major world events, regardless of their theme, to keep the global spotlight on the war in Ukraine.

Zelensky has appeared via video at everything from the Group of 20 Nations summit to the Grammys and the Cannes Film Festival. He’s also done interviews and conversations with a diverse array of journalists and famous entertainers, including Sean Penn and David Letterman.
