I was sleeping with an Agbogbloshie prostitute the day JB Danquah was killed – Sexy Don Don tells court

Daniel Asiedu, the primary suspect in the murder case of the late Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, has commenced his defense against the charges.

Asiedu, also known as Sexy Don Don, faces charges of murder and robbery and has pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, instructed him to present his defense after the prosecution provided prima facie evidence against him.

The prosecution is led by Mrs. Sefakor Batse, a Principal State Attorney.

On Monday, May 13, 2024, three years into the trial, Asiedu took the stand to present his defense.

During his testimony, led by his lawyer Yaw Dankwah, Asiedu recounted how he left his residence in Madina Maye Hot to visit Agbogbloshie Konkomba (Konkonsa Bar) to engage the services of a prostitute after earning profits from selling flash drives on February 8, 2016.

He stated that he was accompanied by a lady named Janet (Tsrah), whom he referred to as his wife, to her residence for intercourse after meeting her at Konkonsa Bar.

The prosecution had summoned eight witnesses, including the investigator, driver, and security personnel of the deceased legislator, to provide evidence.

Speaking through a Twi interpreter during his defense, Asiedu claimed that before his arrest, he used to copy songs onto memory cards and sell them at Madina Zongo Junction.

“On February 8, 2016, after making sales and earning some money… at Madina Zongo Junction, I decided to visit the prostitute at Agbogbloshie Konkomba at Konkonsa Bar for sex,” he testified.

Asiedu stated that he boarded a motorcycle from Zongo Junction around 6:30 pm and arrived at Agbogbloshie at approximately 7:12 pm, according to his watch.

He recounted being informed by a friend that free sex was available at Konkonsa Bar for attractive men, which prompted him to visit the establishment.

Upon returning to Janet’s residence after enjoying drinks at Konkonsa Bar, Asiedu discovered a commotion, with people gathered outside. Janet informed him that individuals named Alottey and Mawuko had questioned her about Asiedu’s whereabouts.

Asiedu stated that he suggested reporting the incident to the regional police station after Janet recounted being harassed by Mawuko.

The case has been adjourned to May 14, 2024, for further proceedings.

He said, upon arriving at Agbogbloshie and raising his head, he could hear music being played at a bar which he later got to know as “Konkonsa Bar.”

He said he was told by a friend that, at the Bar, as long as “you’re a fine boy” there is the chance of getting free sex and free sponsorship from the women there.

“…Having been told by a friend that if you are a fine boy, the women there can propose to you and even offer you a sponsorship and you could get free sex,” with that orientation at the back of “my mind, I entered the (Konkonsa) Bar and ordered for a Blue Jeans.

“After ordering the drink while seated, I saw that a slim lady had come and she asked me whether I had come to see a girlfriend,” Asiedu said, to which, “I answered no.”

Lawyer accuses three police officers for killing J.B Danquah, declares accused innocent

Defense counsel, Yaw Dankwah, in the murder case involving former MP for Abuakwa North, J. B. Danquah Adu, has asserted that Daniel Asiedu, the first accused person, did not perpetrate the crime.

Instead, he alleged that the former MP was murdered by three individuals impersonating police officers who visited his residence.

According to Dankwah, these impersonators, after committing the gruesome act, managed to disappear without a trace. This claim, he argued, is supported by the testimony of Apraku, the security guard who promptly reported the incident to the police via phone calls.

Furthermore, Dankwah emphasised that the late MP was of significant stature and physical strength, implying that it would have been improbable for Asiedu to overpower him.

“It was the three impersonating officers who overpowered the MP and killed him at his residence… Asiedu cannot overpower the MP physically.

“Your story suggesting that it was Daniel Asiedu who killed the MP was a fabrication and full of lies.”

However, ASP Augustine Nkrumah, the case investigator answering questions before the court, said it was Daniel Asiedu, the first accused person, who killed the former MP.

According to the investigator, Asiedu was “a terrible person” and capable of killing the man.

The case investigator took the court through how some weapons used in committing the crime were retrieved from Asiedu.

He also told the court how a T-shirt and a handkerchief, all soaked with blood and a knife were found at the scene and Asiedu admitted that those items were for him.

ASP Nkrumah said Asiedu’s girl friend, Janet Kyeraa, also confirmed to the police that the T-shirt and handkerchief belonged to Aseidu.

The investigator said Janet Kyeraa also informed the police that Asiedu, after the incident, gave her a knife stained with blood to clean.

The investigator told the court that Asiedu’s slippers were also retrieved from the crime scene and Aseidu also identified a catapult and cutter found at the scene.

“During investigations, the knife Asiedu used in stabbing the deceased to death was traced to Asiedu’s room at Agbogbloshie in Accra.

“When the knife was shown to the first accused person (Asiedu), he admitted to having used that knife on the deceased. Asiedu said he was held by the deceased and he left him helpless in his room,” said ASP Nkrumah.

The case investigator said in the deceased room, Asiedu asked for forgiveness for the offence he had committed.

The investigator told the court that Asiedu demonstrated to the investigation team how he went to the crime scene and how he perpetrated the crime.

“My Lord, the exhibits found in the deceased room, Asiedu admitted sending them there.”

Daniel Asiedu is currently facing trial for his alleged involvement in the murder of former MP for Abuakwa North, J.B Danquah Adu, which occurred at the MP’s residence in February 2016. He has been formally charged with both murder and robbery.

Asiedu stands accused alongside Vincent Bossu, with whom he is alleged to have conspired to rob the MP. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them before a seven-member jury.

Presiding over the case is Mrs. Justice Lydia Osei Marfo. The court has ordered the accused individuals to be remanded in custody until their next appearance scheduled for February 28, 2024.

  • OmniBSIC Bank continues impressive profit streak

OmniBSIC Bank has extended its profitability in one more quarter, with an impressive streak of gains that has now become part of the bank’s brand. The indigenous lender posted a gross profit of GH¢36.93million in the third quarter of this year to sustain its profit run and cement a turnaround that began in the first quarter of 2022.

The significant profit posted in the third quarter was contained in the bank’s financial statement published this week. It compares to a loss of GH¢10.44 million that the bank suffered in the same period last year, the statement showed.

This now makes it the third quarterly profit in a row by the bank after it posted its maiden profit of GH¢8.69million in the first quarter of this year. In the second quarter, OmniBSIC grew the profit significantly to GH¢25.04million before stretching it further to GH¢36.93million in the quarter under review.

    Strategic business

The Managing Director of OmniBSIC, Daniel Asiedu, said in an interview on October 13 that the higher profit was the result of hard work and commitment by the bank’s board, management and staff.

Mr. Asiedu is optimistic that the trend will continue into the fourth quarter for the bank to post its first annual profit.

He said the team at OmniBSIC has committed to offering exceptional products and services to customers, and that is now being rewarded with the strong performance. “We also look for strategic business opportunities, and that is what’s reflecting in the growth and performance,” Mr. Asiedu said.

He disclosed that the bank has gone live with its new robust core banking software – which is meant to make service to customers smoother, as it allows more integration with other applications.

    Impressive performance

Beyond the consistent profit, OmniBSIC’s third quarter financial statements showed that the bank sustained its generally impressive performance.

All income lines enjoyed buoyant growth, with net trading income leading the pack. It rose from GH¢2.5million in the third quarter of 2021 to GH¢34.8million. Fees and commission income also almost quadrupled from GH¢8.4million in the third quarter of last year to about GH¢33.2million in the same period this year. Deposits from customers also rose from about GH¢1.2 billion in the third quarter of 2021, to almost GH¢2billion for the same period this year.

    Strong balance sheet

The results further showed that OmniBSIC has maintained its strong balance sheet and liquidity position through buoyant growth in loans and advances, investments and cash balances with counterpart banks.

It showed that the bank’s support to the economy and businesses, in particular through loans and advances, rose from GH¢335.7million in the third quarter of 2021 to GH¢714.3million in the quarter under review.

While investments rose from GH¢847.9million to GH¢1.2billion in the quarter under review, cash and balances with other banks ended the quarter at GH¢543.8million – up from GH¢205.9million and indicating that OmniBSIC continues to be liquid.

    Supporting business

A wholly-indigenous bank, OmniBSIC was launched in 2019 as the outcome of a merger meant to consolidate operations and serve customers better. It faced turbulence in its first years until late 2021, when the ingenuity of the board, management and staff started paying.

Mr. Asiedu, who is leading the turnaround, is an astute banker with indelible footprints at Zenith Bank Ghana Limited and the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) where he was Managing Director. He said it is obvious that the bank has turned the corner, and is now keen on consolidating the performance to be able to support more businesses.

    Uniqueness

Mr. Asiedu said the rising deposits also show that customers are happy with the bank’s services. He said due to the unique nature of OmniBSIC, it was able to meet the demands of all its customers on time – resulting in more referrals.

Throwing more light on the uniqueness, the Reverend Minister and Chairman of the International Presbytery of the Fountain Gate Chapel (FGC) said in the area of foreign exchange needs of their customers OmniBSIC was able to deliver upon request, and that led to higher businesses.

He therefore appealed to the general public and businesses in particular to endeavour to experience the bank by requesting its services and products in the outlets nationwide.

  • JB killers trial: Judge warns lawyer over continuous absence from court

The trial judge in the murder trial of Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Bossu has expressed worried concerning the continued absence of counsel for the accused person.

Asiedu, aka Sex Don Don and Bossu alias Agogo, are standing trial for murder and abatement respectively, but their lawyer Mr. Augustine Obour has not been in court for some sittings, without any permission.

In court on Wednesday, the unhappy-looking trial judge Justice Lydia Osei Marfo of the Criminal Division of the Accra High Court said if counsel does not show up in court on the next adjourned date, she would be forced to write to Legal Aid for another lawyer.

This was after Senior State Attorney Hilda Craig had told the court that she notified counsel in the case about the court sitting through a message.

She told the court that Mr Obour has not been in court for not only this case but some other cases she had been doing with him in other courts.

The Senior State Attorney however pleaded with the court to give him another chance since he might be under the weather and not deliberate.

    Free Agogo

Asiedu, the self-confessed killer of the late Abuakwa North Member of Parliament, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu urged the court to free Bossu, alias Agogo.

Daniel Asiedu said his colleague Vincent Bossu should be freed since he is innocent of the crime and charges leveled against him.

The judge said it is not her duty to release the second accused person unless the Attorney General comes out to say that Vincent is innocent after investigation.

The case has been adjourned to October 16, 2020.
