Direct Accra–Atlanta flights by Delta Airlines slated for December

Delta Air Lines is expanding its footprint in Ghana with the introduction of a new seasonal daily nonstop flight service between Accra and Atlanta, starting December 1, 2025.

This update, communicated through a press release by Kingdom Concepts Consult on behalf of the airline, was shared with the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

The upcoming service aims to offer travellers in Ghana a more efficient route to the United States by eliminating layovers and streamlining the travel experience. Operated with the Airbus A330-900neo, the route will provide passengers with a range of seating options, including Delta One Suites, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin.

This development marks Delta’s second nonstop route connecting Ghana directly with the U.S., highlighting the airline’s continued interest in strengthening its presence in the West African market.

The statement underscored Atlanta’s strategic role as Delta’s primary hub and the world’s busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic. From there, travellers will have access to over 215 destinations across the U.S. and internationally, including key cities such as Miami, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Dallas, and Honolulu.

The new service is anticipated to cater especially to those visiting relatives, conducting business, or travelling during festive seasons like “Detty December.”

Passengers on board will enjoy complimentary high-speed Delta Sync Wi-Fi, allowing them to stay connected, stream entertainment, receive travel notifications, and shop online throughout their flight. This feature, available to SkyMiles Members, reflects Delta’s commitment to offering a modern, digitally enhanced flying experience.

The rollout of this route forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to upgrade its fleet with advanced connectivity tools, including the installation of dual-network systems across newer and regional aircraft.

Having served the Ghanaian market for more than ten years, Delta considers the Accra–Atlanta route a significant move toward deepening travel and cultural connections between Ghana and the United States.

  • Gov’t allegedly denied Delta Airlines a deal due to failure to pay bribe

Gov’t allegedly denied Delta Airlines a deal due to failure to pay bribe

A Ghanaian man has alleged that the government turned down a lucrative deal with Delta Airlines due to the airline’s refusal to pay a bribe.

In an interview with Kingdom FM, he recounted that during an embassy meeting with US commercial representatives, a series of frustrating encounters and unproductive negotiations ultimately resulted in a dead end for the American airline.

According to him, he and one Hannah Acquah attended numerous meetings where Delta Airlines representatives, including one John Fechushak who stayed in a hotel for over four months, attempted to secure a deal.

He added that Mr Fechushak visited Ghana around 40 times, yet despite their efforts, the agreement was never finalized.

Delta Airlines had proposed a comprehensive contract that included the construction of an aviation school in Ghana at no cost.

This school was intended to train Ghanaian pilots, stewards, flight attendants, and other aviation personnel.

The proposal aimed at significantly boosting the local aviation industry by providing essential training and career opportunities for Ghanaians.

Despite these generous offers, the government allegedly turned down the deal.

“We had an embassy meeting with a US commercial,  I and Hannah Acquah. Joseph Chuks was in a hotel for more than 4 months. He was in Ghana for 40 times but did not get the deal. We had meetings upon ,meetings where Delta Airlines (USA) were  prepared for the deal but the government turned them down.

In the contract, the people had wanted to build an aviation school for free to train Ghanaian pilots. They had wanted to train stewards, flight attendants etc but the government still refused this offer. However they were quick to accept Delta Accra NewYork non-stop one aircraft,” he added.

Delta Airlines to introduce new Aircraft in Ghana – Transport Minister

Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has assured Parliament of ongoing talks with Delta Airlines for the acquisition of new aircraft in Ghana, addressing concerns over the Accra-New York route.

The Minister acknowledges discussions with Delta to enhance service quality following recent criticism.

Responding to MP Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka’s urgent question regarding Delta’s emergency landing in Praia Da Vitoria, the Minister outlines efforts to ensure Delta ceases using older aircraft in Ghana.

“The government is in discussion with three other airlines who have applied to service the Accra-New York route,” he said.

Ofori-Asiamah notes that despite some aircraft being older, if approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), restricting them is challenging.

The Minister discloses ongoing government discussions with three other airlines seeking to operate the Accra-New York route.

He anticipates concluding these talks in the third quarter of 2024, addressing MPs’ queries about a specific timeline.

  • US pilot accused of posing threat to captain

US pilot accused of posing threat to captain

A pilot from Delta Airlines in the past has been officially accused of making a threat to shoot his captain while they were on a flight last year.

Jonathan J Dunn was accused in October by a jury in Utah of causing problems with the crew on a plane.

He is being blamed for scaring the captain because he wanted them to change the flight path for a passenger who is unwell.

Dunn has an upcoming court hearing scheduled for November.

According to legal papers seen by CBS on Tuesday, the BBC’s US partner, Dunn, allegedly attacked and threatened a crew member on a flight in August 2022 while also using a dangerous weapon.

According to the Department of Transportation‘s inspector general’s office, he supposedly warned the captain that they would be shot several times if the flight changed its course. The office is currently looking into the incident. The FBI and FAA have been helping.

Officials haven’t provided any more information about what happened next.

A Delta Airlines representative confirmed to CBS that Dunn was employed by them as a first officer when the incident occurred.

They also said that he doesn’t work for the airline anymore.

Dunn was given permission by the TSA, which is a part of the Department of Homeland Security, to have a gun.

The Federal Flight Deck Officer Program allows trained pilots and flight crew to act like police officers to protect passenger planes from violence.

According to the TSA, Dunn has been taken out of the program.

Getting in the way of a flight crew is a serious crime that can result in up to 20 years in prison.

  • Delta Airlines cautioned by Sarkodie against usage of inadequate flight strategies for Africa routes

Delta Airlines cautioned by Sarkodie against usage of inadequate flight strategies for Africa routes

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie issued an apology to his fans for his no-show at a Detriot concert as he heavily lambasts Delta Airline for poorly contributing to the unfortunate incidence.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, September 10, 2023, Sarkodie explained that the flight was disrupted due to flight-related issues.

He specifically called out Delta Airlines after the plane he was on had to make an emergency landing on a Portuguese island.

“So I missed my event in Detroit due to @Delta doing an emergency landing on an island in Portugal yesterday. It was unfortunate but I know these things happen so I wasn’t trippin even though they communicated poorly and didn’t have the courtesy to update us on exactly what was happening,“ he stated.

As he criticized the airline for their mishandling of the situation, the rapper pointed out the unfortunate frequency with which African passengers on the same airline experience subpar treatment and safety concerns being overlooked.

“Sat at the airport for about 6 hours and from complains from passengers, this isn’t new with that airline especially from this part of the world ( Africa ) they keep sending these weak old flights ( business class almost same as economy ) to pick us up knowing very well they are not safe but still risk lives .

“We almost landed on the ocean but thank God we touched that island safe. No compensation nothing and our bags still on the island. Moving forward I wouldn’t want to tarnish a business but hopefully they see to this problem and resolve it … and to my fans in Detroit I’m very sorry and we working on making it up to you,” he stated
