Mass dismissal, attacks on journalists and fmr govt appointees aren’t democratic – Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed deep concern over what he describes as undemocratic actions by the President John Mahama led government

In a strongly worded statement shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, February 20, 2025, Dr. Bawumia criticized the mass dismissal of public servants employed during the previous administration, as well as recent attacks on journalists and former government officials.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that he had made a personal commitment to refrain from commenting on governance issues to give the new administration the space to settle and implement its policies. However, he now feels compelled to speak out due to recent developments that he believes threaten Ghana’s democracy.

According to him, the dismissal of individuals who were legally employed under the previous government contradicts the campaign promises of the ruling party, which assured Ghanaians of job creation. He noted that rather than terminating appointments, the government should be focused on creating more employment opportunities.

“It is ironic that a party which campaigned on the wings of jobs for all Ghanaians is arbitrarily dismissing the same Ghanaians, rendering them jobless, just because a different government employed them,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He expressed particular concern over the dismissal of directors in public service, stressing that these individuals are professionals and not political figures. He described it as unfortunate that highly qualified individuals are being removed from their positions simply because they are related to or associated with members of the previous government.

Beyond the job dismissals, Dr. Bawumia highlighted increasing attacks on journalists, the use of the military to raid the homes of former government officials, and mob actions against innocent individuals and state institutions. He likened these developments to a military takeover rather than a peaceful democratic transition.

“These are certainly worrying times for our democracy, and the earlier action is taken to protect institutions and democratic practice, the better it would be for Ghana’s forward march,” he cautioned.

Dr. Bawumia urged President Mahama to be a leader for all Ghanaians and to put an end to these actions. He called on the government to reverse the mass dismissals and ensure that democratic principles are upheld.

“We must advance our democracy. We must protect our state institutions. We must uphold our Constitution. Ghana can do better. Ghana must do better!” he concluded.

His statement has since sparked discussions about the state of governance, with many calling on the government to address the concerns raised and ensure that democracy is safeguarded in the country.

Meanwhile,  National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, has filed a lawsuit against the government of Ghana over the mass dismissal of public sector employees.

He argues that the directive issued by the Chief of Staff on February 10, 2025, to annul all appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024, is unconstitutional2. He claims that the Chief of Staff lacks the authority to issue such a directive and that it violates Article 191(b) of the 1992 Constitution, which protects public service employees from dismissal without just cause.

Bawumia’s Ghana Card a scam – ‘Pained’ Mzbel recounts ordeal after loosing passport in another country

Veteran musician Mzbel has sparked fresh discussions about the value of the Ghana Card after facing a challenging travel experience.

The outspoken NDC supporter criticized the card, which outgoing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has championed as a key identification document, for not helping her in a difficult situation during her travels.

In a video posted on social media, Mzbel shared her experience while trying to return to Ghana with her two children from an undisclosed location.

She explained that she had lost her purse, which contained her passport and other important documents.

When she presented her Ghana Card as proof of identity, airport officials still refused to let her board her flight home.

“I was left stranded because they told me the Ghana Card wasn’t enough for the necessary processes. How does that even make sense when it’s supposed to be our ultimate form of identification?” she questioned.

Mzbel shared that she tried to resolve the issue directly with airport authorities, but her efforts were unsuccessful. This left her with no choice but to reach out to the Ghanaian embassy for help.

She said the incident highlighted flaws in the system, challenging the claims made by Dr. Bawumia, who had promoted the Ghana Card as a revolutionary tool during his time in office.

“This is the same card Bawumia said could be used for everything. So why couldn’t I use it in a situation like this? It’s no surprise he lost so badly in the elections,” Mzbel stated, referencing Dr. Bawumia’s significant defeat in the 2024 NPP presidential primaries.

  • Bawumia paid for ‘sins’ he didn’t commit – Miracles Aboagye

Bawumia paid for ‘sins’ he didn’t commit – Miracles Aboagye

Spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 election campaign, Miracles Denis Aboagye, has claimed that the Vice President lost the election due to circumstances beyond his control, not because of his own actions.

Mr. Aboagye explained that many people believe Dr. Bawumia was a victim of the situation and not unfit for leadership. This has led to widespread sympathy for the Vice President following last week’s election results.

“One of the things that are quite clear in these conversations is that everybody seems to sympathise with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a candidate who is a victim of circumstances,” he said.

Aboagye explained, “It’s as if sins were brought upon him, which he had no control over, at a time when he was pursuing his own mission.”

He added that Dr Bawumia now has a responsibility to reach out to the masses and explain the circumstances surrounding his defeat in the 2024 election.

“He has a responsibility at this point to reach out to these people and say, ‘I understand you have punished me for these things, but shall we have a conversation?

Shall we talk to see if we can heal these wounds and find a common path forward into the future?”.

Despite the disastrous defeat in Saturday’s polls, Aboagye stated that Dr Bawumia’s qualities remain unquestionable, saying, “His capability, his ability, his level of innovation, and the fact that he is the leader this country needs are not in doubt. But sometimes you can find yourself in the right place at the wrong time,” he noted.

“He is essentially being punished for a lot of sins he did not commit,” he emphasised regarding the Vice President’s defeat.

In last week’s election, Dr. Bawumia of the NPP received 4,657,304 votes out of 11,191,422 valid votes cast, while Mr. John Mahama of the NDC won with 6,328,397 votes, achieving a decisive victory.

Former President John Mahama, now President-elect, and his team have started the transition process to prepare for his swearing-in on January 7, 2025, as the Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administrations come to an end.

  • Dec. 7 Polls: I am the future, Mahama is the past – Bawumia to Ghanaians

Dec. 7 Polls: I am the future, Mahama is the past – Bawumia to Ghanaians

New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has positioned himself as the leader who can drive Ghana toward a brighter future.

He compared his vision for progress to what he described as the outdated approach of former President John Mahama.

At the NPP’s final rally before the December 7 elections, Dr. Bawumia said the upcoming vote is a crucial moment for the country’s future.

“This election is a clear choice between the future and the past. My opponent represents the past, and I, Dr. Bawumia, represent the future of this country,” he said, receiving resounding applause from supporters.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised the importance of continuity in the NPP’s transformative policies, which he said were focused on innovation and long-term development.

“So, the choice that we have on Saturday, as we go to vote, is whether we want to go forward into the future or backwards into the past. A mindset of possibilities underpins us in the NPP and the work that we have done,” he stated.

The NPP flagbearer reiterated his party’s commitment to positioning Ghana as an advanced nation, rooted in bold reforms and progressive policies.

“We believe that it is possible to transform this country into an advanced nation,” Dr. Bawumia added, calling on voters to support the NPP’s vision for sustained growth and prosperity.

  • Kufuor endorsement of Bawumia is an indirect campaign against me – Alan Kyerematen ‘rants’

Kufuor endorsement of Bawumia is an indirect campaign against me – Alan Kyerematen ‘rants’

Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has accused the former President John Agyekum Kufuor of working against his presidential ambitions.

Kufuor has endorsed Bawumia before, which wasn’t an issue, Alan said, however, this time, Kufuor’s comparison of Bawumia with other candidates, lauding the vice president as “better” or “the best” elevates him above other candidates suggesting it undermines his own efforts in the race.

Kyerematen emphasized his position as a key contender in the election, highlighting the significance of not overlooking John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, as both he and Kufuor are respected former leaders of the nation.

He urged the former president to refrain from making public endorsements, cautioning that such actions could create division and negatively impact the political landscape.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on December 5, 2024, he stated, “I will tell President Kufuor that after a distinguished career in politics, he should stay out of election pronouncements about the pending election.

“You may recall that this is not the first time that he is endorsing the vice president, and nobody had any difficulty with that. But when you go to the extent of making comparisons that he is better or the best, then it means that you are campaigning against the two of us.

“And the way I see it, if he was saying this also in respect of former President John Mahama, then it is very strange because I will find it difficult to understand how he will be able to convince the NDC that Bawumia is better than former President John Mahama.

“It would be strange for a former head of state to make a judgment against another former head of state. So if that were the case, then I take it that he is basically campaigning against me.”

  • Bawumia pledges to uphold Ghana’s cultural values with anti-LGBTQ+ and witchcraft Laws

Bawumia pledges to uphold Ghana’s cultural values with anti-LGBTQ+ and witchcraft Laws

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to preserving the nation’s cultural and moral values.

Speaking to congregants at the Believers Worship Centre in Kenyase, Ashanti Region, on 1 December 2024, he pledged to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-witchcraft accusation bills into law if elected as president.

“I am committed to ensuring that Ghana remains rooted in its cultural and moral values. If elected, I will sign into law the anti-LGBTQ+ bill and the anti-witchcraft accusation bill because our traditions and beliefs must be protected from undue external influence,” he said during the church service.

Dr. Bawumia also sought divine blessings for his presidential campaign and emphasised the importance of peaceful elections. “I believe in the power of prayer, and I call on all of you to pray for Ghana and for the success of the upcoming elections. Without God, we labour in vain,” he added.

The Vice President’s comments come amid debates over Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which seeks to criminalise LGBTQ+ activities, and the anti-witchcraft accusation bill aimed at addressing abuses linked to witchcraft allegations.

Dr. Bawumia has previously affirmed his firm stance on LGBTQ+ issues, stating that such practices conflict with Ghanaian cultural values and are unacceptable under his leadership. “On this matter of LGBTQ, I want to say again without any equivocation that we will not allow it in Ghana. It is not going to be allowed. Our Bible says no, our Quran says no, and our people say no. So no. That is the answer,” he asserted earlier this year.

The Founder of the Believers Worship Centre, Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah, welcomed the Vice President’s assurances, commending his dedication to safeguarding Ghanaian traditions. The pastor promised to support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambitions through prayers, highlighting the significance of his pledges.

These declarations have elicited both support and criticism, reflecting the divisive nature of these legislative efforts. The anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-witchcraft bills have been endorsed by some religious and traditional leaders but have also attracted opposition from human rights groups, citing concerns over discrimination and potential human rights violations.

  • Bawumia launches Ghana’s credit scoring system

Bawumia launches Ghana’s credit scoring system

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially launched Ghana’s National Credit Scoring System, known as MyCreditScore, in a move aimed at enhancing financial inclusion and supporting the formalisation of the economy.

This innovative system seeks to revolutionise how Ghanaians access credit, offering a digital, cash-free method for making purchases while promoting a culture of financial responsibility.

Developed in collaboration with private sector partners, MyCreditScore introduces a new credit scoring model that evaluates individuals based on their financial behaviour and payment history.

This will help make it easier for Ghanaians to secure loans and financing, enabling them to build and manage their credit profiles effectively.

During the launch, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the system’s potential to empower individuals and help financial institutions by encouraging responsible lending.

He noted that the initiative could also help address the issue of non-performing loans (NPLs), which has been a concern for banks and financial institutions in Ghana.

With MyCreditScore, Ghanaians will be able to make purchases and conduct transactions without needing cash upfront, easing the financial strain on consumers while helping them establish a positive credit history.

The platform is designed to be accessible to all Ghanaians, with financial institutions, lenders, and merchants urged to adopt it, ensuring seamless credit access across various sectors.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised that this initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals of creating a digital and inclusive economy, marking a key step in Ghana’s progress towards economic resilience and digital transformation.

  • Bawumia to outline vision for Ghana’s education in a meeting with Parents, students on Nov 10

Bawumia to outline vision for Ghana’s education in a meeting with Parents, students on Nov 10

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will address key education stakeholders, including parents and students, on his vision for a future full of opportunities and skills for Ghanaian youth.

Scheduled for November 10, 2024, the broadcast will outline his commitment to strengthen and protect the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.

In a press statement released by his spokesperson, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the concerns raised by parents and students about the future of Free SHS. The program has helped thousands of young Ghanaians access secondary education without the burden of financial constraints.

“We understand the importance of Free SHS to parents and young people across Ghana. My commitment is to not only protect this program but to expand it to cover the skill-based learning many of our youth need,” Dr. Bawumia had stated in a recent engagement.

On November 6, 2024, Miracles Aboagye released an official statement highlighting the crucial role of skill development in Dr. Bawumia’s vision.

“This engagement will focus on empowering our youth with job-ready skills, which is why the NPP has such a strong focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education,” Aboagye emphasized in his statement.

The upcoming broadcast will mark Dr Bawumia’s second major address to the youth in just a few weeks.

  • We’ll ignore NDC’s insults, we’re focused on winning December polls – Bawumia

We’ll ignore NDC’s insults, we’re focused on winning December polls – Bawumia

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, affirmed that his campaign will remain focused and undeterred despite what he described as “insults” from the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He emphasised that his team’s approach is rooted in the NPP’s track record in government, aiming to secure voter confidence based on performance.

During a visit to the Tano North constituency on Saturday, November 2, Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by his trusted aide and spokesperson Dr. Gideon Boako, engaged with residents of Duayaw Nkwanta, concluding a two-day campaign tour in the Ahafo Region.

The campaign then extended to Dormaa, Dr. Boako’s hometown, where he is campaigning to succeed Freda Prempeh as Member of Parliament.

There, Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism about the NPP’s chances in the upcoming December 7 elections, encouraging strong support for the party across the region.

“The NDC sensing that they’re losing the election have resorted to insults; they have been insulting us. I believe you have heard some of the insults. We will not pay attention to them; we are confident of winning the elections. We will win the elections because of our good work.

“We’re focused on embarking on developmental projects for all communities; we have developed the country. I know your concern is the road; the road from Tepa to Duayaw Nkwanta is bad. I want you to commit all the roads in my hands. I will fix the roads when I become President. I will also construct a district hospital at Dormaa.”

Dr. Gideon Boako, the parliamentary candidate for Tano North, assured Dr. Bawumia that the Tano North constituency is set to make a historic impact in the 2024 elections.

“Whatever the NDC will do, even if they eat bags of salt, I will win the seat; nothing will change, because I know you have accepted me and I also love you. We will continue to serve. I will continue the good work of my predecessors, and we plead for your support. I’m pleading with you to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

  • I assure you, LGBTQ+ would never happen in this country – Bawumia

I assure you, LGBTQ+ would never happen in this country – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his firm opposition to the acceptance of LGBTQ+ practices in Ghana, asserting that such activities are in conflict with the nation’s religious and cultural foundations.

Addressing a gathering of clergy, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders during his tour of Anyinam in the Eastern Region, Dr. Bawumia stressed that neither the Bible, the Quran, nor Ghanaian traditions endorse LGBTQ+ behaviors.

Following the commissioning of a new constituency office by Atewa East Member of Parliament Abena Osei Asare, Dr. Bawumia reassured the audience that the NPP, under his leadership, would staunchly resist any efforts to introduce LGBTQ+ ideologies into Ghanaian society, regardless of any external pressure or associated costs.

“Nananom, recently there have been some issues about the introduction of LGBTQ, which advocates for same-sex marriages; that thing will never happen in this country; we won’t allow such to occur here in Ghana.

“It is not in the Bible and Quran too, it is not also in our tradition, culture, or values so we will stand firm and resist its introduction no matter the cost, we won’t agree for it to destroy our country,” he stated.

On the issue of galamsey, Dr Bawumia responding to calls from the traditional leaders on streamlining the activities to mitigate the pollution of water bodies and destruction of forest reserves, said a licencing regime for mining will be granted locally with chiefs being key partners in the issuance of the mining licence.

“I want to bring a new regime into the small-scale mining sector. We need to formalise its licences and also introduce community mining schemes.

“With this licensing regime, it will not be centralised in Accra; we will decentralise it to the local people and the chiefs. Nananom will be a key part of granting licenses,” he added.

Bawumia to introduce local streaming platform for better revenue, royalties management for creatives

Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, announced that Ghana is set to introduce its inaugural local music streaming platform in November.

While speaking to key players in the creative arts industry, Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of developing a local solution that would enable Ghanaian artists to earn fairer financial compensation for their efforts.

“Spotify and other platforms are externally owned, so it’s not surprising that the payments to our musicians are very little,” he said, stressing that current platforms don’t provide substantial returns for artists in Ghana.

“The issue for us has been to ensure we have a local streaming platform where we can put all the catalogues from A to Z that we can find in Ghana.”

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the collaborative effort between MUSIGA, the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), music producers, and the private sector to make this platform a reality.

He explained that the platform is designed to help manage revenue, track royalties, and maximise opportunities for content creators.

“I’m very happy to let you know that the work has been completed,” Dr. Bawumia shared with enthusiasm.

“We are ready to launch the first local streaming platform for Ghanaian musicians and film producers next month, in November.”

This new platform is expected to provide a more equitable revenue model for Ghanaian creatives, allowing them to better track and collect royalties while creating opportunities for sustainable growth in the industry.

  • Stop running and face Bawumia in debate – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

Stop running and face Bawumia in debate – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

President Nana Akufo-Addo has thrown down the gauntlet, urging former President John Mahama to face Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a public debate ahead of the December elections.

This follows repeated calls from Dr. Bawumia and other members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer to engage in a debate.

However, the NDC has consistently declined, making it clear that Mahama has no intention of debating Bawumia.

Speaking to chiefs in Tamale on Wednesday, October 16, President Akufo-Addo pressed Mahama to stop avoiding a direct engagement with the Vice President.

He emphasised that such a debate would allow for an open discussion of key issues and serve the democratic process.

The President further challenged Mahama to clarify his stance on critical matters by accepting the debate invitation.

President Akufo-Addo noted that “We need somebody who’s reliable, whose work can be trusted, who is consistent, and who is clear-minded, and that is why some of us are saying, in fact, the majority of us in Ghana are saying, we want him and Bawumia to debate the issues in our country.

“Why is John Mahama running away from the debate? Says he’s ready any day for the debate. Why is Mahama running away from the debate?

“The people of Ghana deserve the debate so they can see who is doing what, saying what, and representing what. Mister Mahama, which is which?

What should the Ghanaian people take from you as your position on the free senior high school? Is it safe with you? Are you going to continue it or are you going to review it?

“Are you going to cancel it? None of those do we know from you. Nobody should be allowed to be president who cannot answer these questions straightforwardly. Yes or no?”

NDC is sponsoring Democracy Hub demo, don’t be deceived – Gideon Boako

Gideon Boako, spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has warned the public against being misled by what he perceives as a covert effort by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stir discontent towards the government following the recent Democracy Hub protest.

Boako claimed that while the demonstration focused on illegal mining (galamsey), it serves a deeper political agenda aimed at destabilizing the current administration. During an interview with Peace FM on September 27, he emphasized that the timing of the protest occurring just months before the elections—suggests an intention to sway public opinion against the government for political gain.

He argued that although the issue of illegal mining is indeed serious, the NDC’s participation indicates motives beyond genuine environmental concern. Instead of utilizing protests to undermine the government, Boako urged stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions to collaboratively tackle the problem.

He cautioned citizens to remain vigilant about political figures who mask their true agendas under social or environmental pretenses, asserting that such strategies only create division and hinder progress in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“Don’t be deceived by the NDC’s latent attempt to hide behind those protesters to cause public disaffection to the government. They are politically motivated to do anything to get a back name for the government to achieve their political agenda.”

“Perish the thought should NDC come to power, should NDC come to power, all these guys leading the demonstration will have appointments in government.”

Recent polls conducted by Outcomes International indicate that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, is positioned to win the 2024 presidential election, with John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) coming in second.

According to the data, Dr. Bawumia is projected to secure 49.4% of the vote, while Mahama is expected to receive 45.1%.

Other candidates are predicted to collectively account for just 0.3% of the total votes, with 5.2% of voters remaining undecided.

The survey, which spanned August to September 2024, gathered insights from thousands of registered voters across Ghana’s regions.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will win in 11 out of 16 regions while Mr. Mahama will win in 5 regions. The overall findings show a very close contest between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (49.4%) and Mr. Mahama (45.1%).

However, 5.2% of the respondents were undecided, while 0.3% of the respondents said they would vote for other candidates,” the report said.

The upcoming December 2024 presidential election is shaping up to be a close contest between former President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Several reputable polls have alternated in placing one ahead of the other in the race.

The most recent poll gives Dr. Bawumia a narrow lead over Mahama, who has been attempting to make a political comeback since his defeat in 2016 and his unsuccessful bid in the 2020 election.

Number one spot on ballot paper is God’s doing – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has attributed securing the top spot on the ballot for the 2024 presidential election to God Almighty.

Dr. Bawumia made this submission during a recent visit to the Church of Pentecost in Breman Asikuma, Central Region, saying “we gathered to determine the order of the ballot, and through our prayers, we trust that God heard us. The result was the number one position, for which we are profoundly thankful.”

Reflecting on the ballot process and beyond, he shared, “There are countless things beyond human control, but we have faith that God can accomplish anything. With faith in God, we can achieve our goals.”

The balloting for the 2024 presidential election which took place on September 20, 2024, was not devoid of controversy as the opposition National Democratic Congress challenged the picking of the number one spot by the NPP’s Elections Director, Evans Nimako.

Despite the NDC’s objections, the NPP representative stood firm, and after some heated discussions, the process resumed, resulting in the NPP once again drawing the number one spot, which has since ignited a wave of social media commentary regarding its seemingly miraculous nature.

A total of 13 candidates have successfully gone through the nomination process and are now eligible to contest in the upcoming election.

The order of candidates on the ballot paper is as follows: Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP), Daniel Augustus Lartey (GCPP), Akua Donkor (GFP), Christian Kwabena Andrews (GUM), Kofi Akpaloo (LPG), Mohammed Frimpong (NDP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Kumankuma (CPP), John Dramani Mahama (NDC), Hassan Ayariga (APC), Kofi Koranteng (Independent), George Twum-Barima-Adu (Independent), Nana Kwame Bediako (Independent), and Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremateng (Independent).

Bawumia set to unveil credit scoring system in October

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is poised to unveil a new Credit Scoring System in October 2024, a key aspect of his campaign.

This initiative aims to facilitate credit purchases for Ghanaians, allowing them to buy items and pay in installments.

Dr. Bawumia believes this transition from a cash-centric economy to a credit-supportive framework will benefit small businesses and young entrepreneurs.

During a recent campaign event in Assin Fosu, he emphasized the system’s potential to stimulate economic growth, generate jobs, and enhance access to credit for individuals.

He stated, “This system will open up new opportunities for individuals and small businesses to access credit, which in turn will drive economic growth and job creation.”

Additionally, at the event, Okumanin Baffour Asare Kyeahene II, the Paramount Chief of the Afutuakwa Traditional Area, urged Dr. Bawumia to address the pressing issue of poor road conditions in the Assin Central Constituency, which is a significant concern for local residents.

At a campaign event in Assin Fosu, he underscored the system’s potential to stimulate economic growth, generate employment, and improve access to credit for individuals across the country.

Banning small-scale mining is not the solution to galamsey menace – Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 presidential campaign, has expressed strong opposition to any proposed ban on small-scale mining.

Aboagye, speaking on Joy News on September 19, argued that such a ban is politically driven rather than addressing genuine environmental concerns.

He criticized the proposal, suggesting it serves the interests of certain political factions rather than the country as a whole.
“The proposal they are making is not in the interest of the water bodies. They are making it in the interest of their own political affiliation,” he said.

Aboagye pointed out that previous attempts to ban small-scale mining have not been successful in solving the issues associated with it.

“Banning small-scale mining I don’t think is the way to go because, one, we have tried it before and it did not solve the problem.”

He acknowledged the environmental damage caused by illegal mining but insisted that it is unjust to penalize all small-scale miners, many of whom operate legally.

“There are people who are legitimately doing small-scale mining. It has nothing to do with galamsey, then we should go and ban Newmont and ban Gold Fields and Anglo Gold Ashanti and all that? But where Anglo Gold Ashanti and Newmont and co. are mining what has it got to do with the discussions we are having?” he added, “Indeed, our water bodies have been affected, indeed galamsey is destroying the water bodies.”

He also highlighted the economic impact of a ban, noting that it would lead to widespread job losses.

“Do you know what happens when you ban small-scale mining? There are tens of thousands of people who will lose their jobs. If my government bans small-scale mining, I will demonstrate against them.”

Furthermore, Aboagye dismissed calls for the removal of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Jinapor, as a solution to the illegal mining problem, suggesting that such measures would not effectively address the underlying issues.

During a recent visit by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his campaign team to Ada East, local chiefs made a plea for financial support if he becomes president.

They requested to be included on the government payroll to better assist their communities, citing frequent demands for aid from their subjects for various needs like medical emergencies and educational expenses.

”Day in day out, people go to the chiefs, my husband is sick, my wife is in labour, my daughter is in the hospital, my daughter is going to school I need money”

“Mr President, we are requesting that when God helps you, we will all help you to come into power like our parliamentary candidate”.

The chiefs, represented by Nene Osushe Akwe II, expressed their concerns and support for Bawumia’s candidacy, emphasizing how a government stipend would enhance their ability to provide essential help to their people.

“The chiefs need to be on a payroll to help the people in the community so that whoever comes to us for help. So Mr Vice President, we will be glad. Do not forget the chiefs to be on payroll”.

In response, Dr. Bawumia promised to introduce a “living allowance” for chiefs, queen mothers, and divisional chiefs throughout the country.

“One thing that I support, we are going to pay a living allowance to the chiefs, not only chiefs, our queen mothers and divisional chiefs as well,” Dr Bawumia reiterated.

He acknowledged the difficulties faced by the chiefs and assured that under his leadership, issues such as road repairs in Ada would be addressed.

”I have heard all the issues here in Ada,, roads will be fixed,” he promised.

Mahama is scared of a debate because he knows my statements are backed with data – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia recently challenged former President John Mahama to engage in a debate, claiming Mahama is avoiding it out of fear.

Bawumia argued that Mahama’s reluctance stems from his awareness that his statements are well-supported by factual data.

“If you believe in yourself, come for a debate. He is scared because he knows I back my statements with data,” he said.

During a campaign event in Accra on September 16, Bawumia criticized Mahama for allegedly spreading misinformation.

He called on Mahama to show respect and engage in a civil debate rather than resorting to derogatory comments about religious leaders, civil society organizations, and traditional authorities.

Bawumia expressed concern that Mahama’s remarks diminish the respect associated with his previous role and undermine the unity and progress these groups contribute to.

“You all know I am competing with the former president to win this election. I think he has realised that he will lose the elections so he is always angry. I heard he insulted some pastors, chiefs, imam and CSOs saying they are hypocrites. He even insulted the ECG.”

“Today he said the NPP is a foolish government. Why would a former president say something like this? We must have some level of decency in the language we speak as politicians.”

Bawumia took issue with Mahama’s recent insults directed at the NPP government and other entities, questioning why a former president would use such language.

“When you lack ideas, you begin to insult people but when you have ideas you present them. As for us, we have bold solutions to problems,” he said.

He emphasized that political discourse should focus on policy and constructive debate rather than personal attacks.

In his defense of the NPP government, Bawumia highlighted their achievements, asserting that their administration has made significant advancements in job creation, infrastructure, and public services compared to the previous government.

“You said we are a foolish government but we have created more jobs than your government, we have built more roads, interchanges, schools, factories, and hospitals than your government. Every sector of the economy that you can mention, we have done better but you are saying we are foolish.”

He dismissed Mahama’s criticism as unsubstantiated, emphasizing that the current government has delivered more on various fronts.

Focus on ideas rather than insults – Bawumia to Mahama

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has urged John Mahama, his opponent from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to adopt a more respectful tone in his public statements.

At a campaign event in Accra on September 16, Dr. Bawumia criticized Mahama for using derogatory language against religious leaders, civil society groups, and traditional authorities, calling them “hypocrites” for their silence on national matters.

Dr. Bawumia expressed concern that such remarks diminish the respect associated with Mahama’s previous office.

He emphasized that these groups play a vital role in promoting unity and progress and should be treated with dignity rather than scorn.

Addressing Mahama’s recent comments, Dr. Bawumia questioned why a former president would resort to name-calling, such as labeling the NPP government as “foolish.”

He argued that elections should center on substantive policies rather than personal attacks.

“When you lack ideas, you begin to insult people but when you have ideas you present them. As for us, we have bold solutions to problems,” he said.

He defended the NPP’s record, asserting that their government has surpassed the achievements of the previous administration in various sectors, including job creation, infrastructure, and public services.

“You said we are a foolish government but we have created more jobs than your government, we have built more roads, interchanges, schools, factories, and hospitals than your government. Every sector of the economy that you can mention, we have done better but you are saying we are foolish.

“If you believe in yourself, come for a debate. He is scared because he knows I back my statements with data,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia challenged Mahama to a debate, confident in the NPP’s accomplishments and prepared to back up their claims with data.

Medical drone delivery initiative was inspired by my father’s death – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, has shared that his father’s death in 2002 profoundly influenced the creation of Ghana’s medical drone delivery service.

His father, who passed away following surgery in Tamale, faced critical delays in obtaining blood, which spurred Bawumia to address the issue.
In his recent campaign stop in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Bawumia highlighted how his father’s experience underscored the need for timely medical deliveries.

He revealed that the drone initiative was developed to prevent such delays and ensure quick access to essential medical supplies.
Bawumia described the tragic event that led him to seek out innovative solutions.

His efforts led to the establishment of six drone hubs across Ghana, in partnership with the Zipline company.

These drones now deliver blood, medications, and vaccines to over 2,700 healthcare facilities nationwide, having completed 540,000 flights to date.

“We brought drones into Ghana to deliver medicines, vaccines, and blood. Many people were dying needlessly because they could not get medicine on time. A snake can bite you on the farm and you need medicine, and anti-snake serum immediately. A mother can be giving birth in the village and needs blood immediately.

“In 2002, my father had an operation in Tamale and was losing blood. We were looking for blood, but the blood bank was locked.
“We tried to find the operator but couldn’t find him. So when I heard about drones and Zipline and what they could do in delivering blood, I took my team and went to San Francisco.

“We met the Zipline company and convinced them to come to Ghana and set up six drone centres in Ghana. We have six drone centres which are delivering blood, medicines, and vaccines to 2,700 hospitals and health centres in Ghana. Every day we are saving lives. So far, the drones have flown 540,000 flights,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia pledges to fix 50,000 CCTV cameras to boost Ghana’s security

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has committed to enhancing Ghana’s security by installing 50,000 CCTV cameras in major towns across the country.

Announcing this plan during his campaign in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Dr. Bawumia stated that a recent security assessment revealed the need for 50,000 CCTV cameras to adequately monitor roads in regional and district capitals.

He acknowledged that while the government has initiated CCTV installations, coverage remains incomplete.

In addition to his security proposal, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significance of adopting a “Buy Ghana First” policy. He argued that by prioritising locally produced goods, Ghanaians can stimulate business growth and create more job opportunities.

During his campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia engaged with religious leaders, including clergy, imams, and chiefs in the Ashongman Estate area.

Former Speaker of Parliament, Mike Ocquaye, lauded Dr. Bawumia for his intellectual prowess and significant contributions to the NPP.

“When there were controversies about election matters and we had gathered a lot of information, Frank Davis and others toiled but how to put the things together in an acceptable formula for court, that work was done by Dr. Bawumia, today he has another name called Mr. pink sheet.”

“All matters as to how we use the pink sheet to look after the controversies of the election, that was the man who stood in court. You could see the star in him, but I say it’s a gift. If you don’t take advantage of such a gift, it’s your own cause.”

Dr. Bawumia also outlined the achievements of the NPP government and emphasised the need for enhanced security measures, including installing CCTV cameras.

“I called national security, and I said what will it take for Ghana to have CCTV on all the streets in all of our regional capitals and all of our district capitals so that we can see any crime that is taking place, we can at least have a clue.”

“So, they came back to me, and they said they need 50000 CCTV cameras, and they are going to get 50000 CCTV cameras, which we are going to provide so that the police can have visibility for every movement because we don’t have many police officers.”

Presidential candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to address concerns regarding unpaid allowances for the national amputee football team, the Black Challenge.

Reports indicate that the team is still awaiting compensation for their efforts at the 2024 Amputee Africa Cup of Nations (AAFCON), where they triumphed over Morocco in the final held in Egypt, securing their second consecutive AAFCON title after their victory in Tanzania.

Despite their success, the team has yet to receive the promised allowances.

Bawumia has committed to ensuring that the Black Challenge receives the payments they are owed.

Veteran Highlife musician and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Spokesperson on Tourism and Creative Arts, Rex Omar, has criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his perceived failures in office.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Rex Omar accused Bawumia, who leads the Economic Management team, of lacking credibility and failing to meet his promises to Ghanaians.

Rex Omar expressed skepticism about the NPP’s 2024 manifesto, questioning the seriousness of its promises.

He pointed out that Bawumia’s commitments, such as establishing ultramodern theatres and other initiatives, remain unfulfilled.

“When they write convoluted promises like these, how can people take them seriously? Is Bawumia going to issue diplomatic passports to creatives or dictate how other countries should accept them? Even some of our diplomats face rejection abroad.”

“You promised to build ultramodern theatres in 2016 but haven’t delivered even one. There hasn’t been an apology or an explanation for this failure,” Rex Omar added.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and NPP flagbearer, has reiterated his dedication to ensuring that the upcoming December elections in Ghana are free, fair, and peaceful.

During a media engagement on August 25, 2024, Dr. Bawumia underscored that the drive for political power should be centered around positively transforming the nation and benefiting all Ghanaians.

He criticized those who, he claimed, often use provocative and inflammatory rhetoric, warning against any form of violence or disruption in the pursuit of political gain.

“It is becoming increasingly worrying that some people have gained the notoriety of churning out incendiary language, threatening fire and brimstone if the good people of Ghana give the mandate to rule to a group other than theirs.

“It bears repeating that not a single drop of Ghanaian blood should be sacrificed for power,” he noted.

He assured that the NPP remains committed to showcasing their ideas through peaceful and constructive means, aiming to prove their proposals are superior to those of other parties without resorting to violence or disorder.

He emphasized that his dedication to serving the people of Ghana remains unwavering, and that negative commentary will not distract him from his objectives.

“When you are in politics, it’s part of the course. In a sense, there’s not much you can do. People, just for no reason, but for their own parochial reasons, will insult you.

“But as long as it doesn’t stop me from doing what I want to do for the people of Ghana, I will not be perturbed,” he said.

Dr Bawumia has been under scrutiny since he became the flagbearer of the governing NPP with many of his critics accusing him of being a liar.

Bawumia prepared to sign anti-LGBTQ bill if it is correctly drafted – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will not hesitate to sign the anti-LGBTQ bill into law, provided there are no legal obstacles, according to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Vice Chair of the Party’s Manifesto Committee.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, Oppong Nkrumah stated that Dr. Bawumia has made it clear that he opposes LGBTQ activities and will not support any efforts to normalize or legalize them in Ghana.

The Housing Minister also noted that the bill is currently under legal review to ensure it adhered to the correct legislative procedures before its passage.

“It’s being litigated, and I’m not going to make a pronouncement on the legality of that bill, but he has said clearly that he will protect Ghanaian family and cultural values.

He does not support all these LGBT things that some people are trying to promote. He’s totally against it,” he stated.

In May this year, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his stance, making it clear that LGBTQ activities would not be tolerated in Ghana if he is elected president.

“On this matter of LGBTQ, I want to say again without any equivocation that we will not allow it in Ghana. It is not going to be allowed. Our Bible says no, our Quran says no, and our people say no. So no. That is the answer,” he declared.

“No man will be marrying a man, no woman will be marrying a woman. It is not our value. And I will stand firm no matter the consequences. We will safeguard our country, and we will safeguard our people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ho West MP Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has challenged Dr Bawumia to compel President Akufo-Addo to sign the bill into law now, arguing that Bawumia, as Vice President, should influence the president to act.

“If he is man enough to rule this country, he should be able to tell his boss, ‘Look, my boss, this is our cultural value, please sign this bill,’” the MP said on Joy FM’s Top Story.

On the other hand, Ofoase Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah expressed a different view, asserting that

“If a bill properly constructed has gone through the processes and is legally laid before him unless there’s something fatally wrong with the bill, he will pass it into law,” Mr Oppong Nkrumah stated.

He further explained that the current bill is being contested because “There was a decision that had to be made by the Speaker of Parliament whether or not that bill will impose a charge on the public purse.

“Those who have sued are arguing among other things that the Speaker did not make that determination, and, therefore, could not have admitted it properly as a private member’s bill for it to be passed.

That is one of the fatalities they are complaining about,” he clarified.

Fahd Osman, a member of the National Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has highlighted several policies outlined by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 manifesto.

These include the e-visa policy for all international visitors to Ghana, designed to make visa acquisition faster and more convenient, and the Travel Protocol Service (TPS), which aims to facilitate international performances and shows for artists, among other initiatives.

Osman Fahd believes that Bawumia’s proposed policies are more feasible than former President John Mahama’s Free Tertiary education plan.

He suggests that Mahama’s Free Tertiary policy is a response to the success of the NPP’s Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

According to Osman Fahd, Mahama’s previous opposition to the Free SHS policy makes it noteworthy to see whether he will successfully implement the Free Tertiary policy.

“We look forward to seeing former President John Mahama fulfill his Free Tertiary policy, especially given his strong opposition to the Free SHS policy,” Osman Fahd stated.

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaians to reject John Mahama in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

According to Dr. Bawumia, a Mahama presidency would only last four years, rendering him unaccountable to the people since he would not be seeking re-election.

Dr. Bawumia made this statement during his ongoing tour of the Eastern Region, where he has been engaging with constituents, traditional authorities, and religious leaders.

He emphasised the importance of electing a leader who would be accountable to the people for a full term.

“If we vote for former president Mahama, he can only become president for four years. Four years and that is it.

He doesn’t have to come back for another election. You wouldn’t see him again in Lower Manya Krobo, he won’t come back, he’ll just take the presidency and it’s bye-bye, honeymoon and it’s retirement.”

The NPP flagbearer recently toured multiple constituencies in the Eastern Region, such as Akropong, Asuogyaman, Lower Manya Krobo, and Yilo Krobo.

His campaign strategy has centered around door-to-door visits, connecting with communities, and holding discussions with traditional and religious leaders.

During one of his interactions, Dr. Bawumia promised to donate a bus to Krobo Girls Senior High School, a gesture that was warmly received by the students.

“I just told Nene Sackitey that I’m going to personally buy a bus for Krobo Girls School so I will work on that for you.”

In response to Bawumia’s pledge, Otoo took to X (formerly Twitter) to describe the 2024 elections as a “test of sanity” and urged voters to carefully consider the promises being made.

She emphasized the importance of making a wise choice at the polls.

The 2024 general elections will see competition between Dr. Bawumia of the NPP, former President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC, New Force Movement leader Nana Kwame Bediako, and Movement for Change leader Alan Kyerematen.

The elephant has been ‘uncaged’ – Reverend Owusu-Bempah delivers fresh prophecy on 2024 elections

Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International recently shared a prophecy regarding the 2024 elections.

He described a divine encounter where an angel provided guidance on previous spiritual instructions from God.

Reverend Owusu-Bempah revealed that he was tasked with collecting sand from all sixteen regions of Ghana and from a specific location known for its monarchical traditions.

This task was part of a larger spiritual mission.

In his latest prophecy, he stated that an earlier vision of a caged elephant symbolizing internal conflict has been transformed.

The elephant is now free, and the discord has ended, uniting the factions involved.

Although Reverend Owusu-Bempah hinted at significant spiritual outcomes from his sand-gathering mission, he said he has not yet been authorized by God to disclose these results.

He mentioned that in time, possibly after the December 9 elections, the impact of his actions will be revealed.

“We’ve been to all the regions in Ghana to fetch sands from all the sixteen regions and we’ve changed things in the spiritual realm. A cake was baked for someone to eat, but he threw it away. Another person was given the same cake, and he ate it.

“I prophesied that the elephant had been caged, but now the cage has been unlocked and the elephant has been set free. The confusion has ceased. In the place where Jesus was received, he performed huge miracles, but at the places where he was rejected, he couldn’t perform miracles.

“At dawn last week Monday, I received a visitation from God’s presence, and I had already been instructed to fetch sand from all regions in Ghana. I obeyed the instructions and acted accordingly.

“We then went to the place where kings are crowned, and God told me to fetch sand from that place too. After gathering the sand, God then asked me to be patient. An angel of God gave me directions about the sand and told me the time is due.

“By December 9, we will know the true prophets of God, and it’s after the elections that you’ll know what God did through me,” he said during a sermon on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

The 2024 elections feature key candidates: John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, symbolized by the umbrella, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, symbolized by the elephant.

“What has Bawumia said that shows he is a liar” – Owusu Bempah dares NDC

Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has dared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to identify any falsehood uttered by NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia since the start of his political career.

Owusu-Bempah accused the NDC of labeling Vice President Bawumia as a liar and has challenged them to substantiate their claims. He asserted that every economic promise made by Dr. Bawumia has been fulfilled, dismissing the NDC’s attempts to discredit him as futile.

“What has Bawumia said that shows he is a liar? What the NDC is doing is ‘gobelien’ propaganda, it means to tell a lie, continue to tell a lie and it will be the truth.

“What has Bawumia said that has not come to pass that the NDC claims he is a liar? We are daring the NDC to come out and tell us, through his political career, what Bawumia said he would do that he didn’t,” 3news.com quoted him to have said in an interview on August 1, 2024.

It is worth noting that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, dismissed the idea of a presidential debate between his party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In an interview with Okay FM on Monday, July 22, 2024, Asiedu Nketiah stated that such a debate was unnecessary.

He suggested that the vice president, who had also called for the debate, should instead concentrate on addressing his own past records and statements made while he was in opposition, as Ghanaians are now holding him accountable.

He took a swipe at Dr Bawumia, saying that if he (the vice president) is asked to defend his “We’ve arrested that dollar and given the key to the IGP” statement, he would say that the IGP they gave the key to is no more in office.

“Do you know what he would be coming to say? He would say that the IGP who had the key to the arrested dollar has been fired and that is why the cedi is depreciating. Are these issues what we will be debating?

“The important thing is that he would go and debate his record. Because his record has come seriously under fire. He has enough debating to do by himself. So, he should go for his record and debate the issues in it, the elections would be done before he even finishes,” the NDC national chairman said in Twi.

He also indicated that Dr Bawumia can also use the time for the debate to answer the 170 questions he asked the late former Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur when he was in opposition.

“He should take his marking scheme for the 170 questions that tell us how it applies to the questions he asked. And he should also start being truthful,” he added.

Bawumia lies everywhere, even on the pulpit, he has no limits -X user

An X user named Listowell Mensah has strongly criticized Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The critique centers around a past video in which Dr. Bawumia promised to address the challenges faced by taxi drivers due to the rise of ride-hailing services like Uber.

In the video, Dr. Bawumia, speaking from a pulpit, assured that measures would be implemented to support taxi drivers who were struggling as a result of decreasing business from these services.

He pledged that a solution would be forthcoming within months.

However, according to the X user, no significant action has been taken since that promise was made.

Listowell Mensah used this video as evidence to accuse Dr. Bawumia of failing to deliver on his promises and being dishonest, even in a public and prominent setting.

He highlighted this with the tweet “No Person worth a salt will vote for this guy, he lies everywhere including the pulpit.
“Is our taxi business being run like Uber now? Wei lol.”

This is my first time meeting this man, I like you – Young man ‘converts’ after meeting Bawumia

A young man was overwhelmed with emotion when he had the chance to hug Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during a door-to-door campaign in the Upper West Region.

Dr. Bawumia, who had been touring the region for a week, stopped to interact with the young man and others present.

Seeing the young man’s eagerness for a handshake, Dr. Bawumia offered him a warm hug instead, making the moment even more special.

The vice president also posed for photos with the young man, who wanted to capture the memory.

The young man, initially planning to vote for another candidate, confessed that this encounter converted him to believe in the NPP’s “It Is Possible” campaign for the 2024 election.

He expressed his newfound admiration, saying, “This is my first time meeting this man, and I like you. It is possible. Today, I will sleep like I’m in Heaven. I was negative, but now it has become positive.”

During his campaign stop in Jirapa, Dr. Bawumia addressed comments made by John Mahama, who claimed the NPP would not choose a Northerner as their flagbearer.

Dr. Bawumia countered this, stating that despite skepticism, he became the NPP’s leader by God’s grace.

He highlighted that Mahama had previously said the NPP should elect Bawumia if they wanted Northern votes.

Now, with his leadership, Dr. Bawumia urged the North to support him in the upcoming election.

‘Transforming’ Free SHS in the North isn’t something you can trust Mahama with – Bawumia

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stated that the transformative benefits of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme in the Northern region and throughout Ghana would not have been realized if former President John Mahama had stayed in power.

During a large rally in Jirapa, part of his campaign tour in the Upper West Region, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the substantial advantages the Free SHS initiative has provided to many households in the North since its launch in 2017.

He criticized former President Mahama for opposing the policy, despite its positive impact on the region and the country as a whole.

“Former President Mahama said that if he had the money, he wouldn’t use it for free SHS education. He said it was not a priority. But we have brought it, and the people of the North and Ghanaians are benefiting,” Dr Bawumia declared to loud cheers from the crowd.

Highlighting the increase in enrollment, he continued, “We knew, and I knew, that where we had the poorest people in the North, we needed Free SHS education. We brought Free SHS to the North and Ghana, and our children are attending in their numbers.

The total enrollment for senior high school has increased from 800,000 to 1.4 million in seven years. It tells you that our people were yearning for Free SHS education.”

Dr. Bawumia noted that the five northern regions now boast the highest enrollment rates in senior high school education. “But this is what John Mahama said we should not do. He said if he had the money, he would not do it,” he reiterated.

The Vice President also criticized former President Mahama for allegedly misusing funds in the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) project.

“He set up SADA, and we all saw what happened. He claimed he invested millions of dollars, but we all know what happened. There is no single SADA project to show, and I have challenged him to show us one, and he has not.”

Dr Bawumia contrasted his record with Mahama’s, highlighting the policies and development projects he has facilitated as Vice President, benefiting both the North and Ghana.

Critics lack understanding of proposed credit scoring system – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has responded to critiques regarding his plan to introduce a credit scoring system in Ghana.

He explained that the proposed system is intended to allow individuals to purchase goods on credit, thereby improving financial accessibility for many Ghanaians.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the country’s recent advancements, including the issuance of the Ghana Card, the integration of various databases, and the expansion of financial inclusion through mobile money interoperability.

He argued that these developments have created a conducive environment for the successful implementation of a credit scoring system.

“Among many benefits, the operation of a credit scoring system will make it easier for the ordinary Ghanaian to purchase essentials such as cars, and mobile phones, and obtain loans at lower interest rates,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He further noted that in most advanced nations, mobile phones are often available for free from telecom companies with a two or three-year contract, contingent on one’s credit score.

Dr. Bawumia criticized his critics, stating, “Unfortunately, my opponents always think in terms of impossibilities and criticize without knowledge.”

Earlier this year, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia introduced the proposal for a personalized credit scoring system in Ghana during his initial policy address.

Since then, he has elaborated on its potential benefits during his campaign tours, suggesting methods like purchasing mobile phones on credit from telecom companies and paying in installments through the credit scoring system.

However, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed skepticism about the proposal’s feasibility and impact. They have questioned its practicality and downplayed its potential benefits.

Bawumia’s credit card system isn’t a necessity, Ghanaians deserve better salary structure – Efia Odo

Ghanaian actress and socialite Efia Odo has expressed skepticism about a recent policy proposal by Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia’s plan includes introducing a national credit scoring system that would allow Ghanaians to buy goods, such as mobile phones, on credit and pay in installments based on their credit score.
“We are bringing the credit scoring system so that our people can get good credit for goods so that they can pay small, small, small,” he stated.

While Dr. Bawumia envisions this system as a way to ease financial transactions, Efia Odo has raised concerns about its potential impact. She argues that countries using similar credit systems are often burdened with debt and believes Ghana’s priorities should be focused elsewhere.

According to Odo, what Ghanaians need are well-paying jobs and a stable cedi, not a credit scoring system.

She highlighted that doctors and nurses are leaving Ghana for better opportunities abroad due to low wages, emphasizing the discrepancy between salaries in Ghana and those in more developed countries.

In a social media post, she questioned the necessity of the proposed credit system, arguing that the real issues are job creation, economic stability, and improved salaries for healthcare professionals.
“Do you know how many Americans that are in debt because of credit cards? Ghanaians don’t need this, what we need are jobs, well-paying jobs!! We need the cedi to STABILIZE. We need to keep our doctors and nurses home instead everyone is leaving because of low or unpaid wages.

“… A doctor in America can make anywhere from $100-500,000 a year. Do you know how much the average doctor makes yearly in Ghana? Nowhere close to those figures!! This credit card system is not a necessity!!!” Efia Odo emphasized.

Critics from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have also questioned the feasibility of Dr. Bawumia’s proposal, suggesting it might not address the immediate economic challenges facing the country.

Monkeys play by their sizes, Mahama can’t debate a driver’s mate – Ato Forson jabs Bawumia

The Minority in Parliament has criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, for proposing a debate with John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the December elections.

On July 24, the Majority caucus supported Dr. Bawumia’s call, arguing that a debate would allow Ghanaians to compare the two candidates and assess their ability to manage the economy.

However, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson dismissed the idea during a parliamentary session, suggesting that Dr. Bawumia, whom he referred to as a “driver’s mate,” is not qualified to debate an “experienced driver” like Mahama.

He argued that Bawumia should first engage in debates with the NDC’s economic and budget spokespersons Honorable Adongo, Honorable Kwaku Ricketts Hagan, and Honorable Ampem Darko before considering a debate with Mahama.

Dr. Ato Forson emphasized the significant experience gap between Bawumia and Mahama, implying that such a debate would be premature.

“Mr Speaker, monkeys they say play by sizes. Mr Speaker, how can a driver’s mate debate an experienced driver? Mr Speaker, in this house, the spokesperson for the minority on the issues of finance is Honourable Adongo.

“The spokesperson for the minority for the issues of the economy is honourable Kwaku Ricketts Hagan and the spokesperson for the budget for the minority is honourable Ampem Darko.”

“Mr Speaker, we all know that the Chairman of the Economic Management team is the Vice President, so the Vice President can only debate honourable Adongo. He should debate honourable Adongo or debate honourable Ricketts Hagan.”

“A driver’s mate cannot debate an experienced driver. Mr Speaker that is the fact. So, we throw the challenge, he should debate honourable Adongo first, honourable Ampem second, honourable Ricketts Hagan third before he considers debating former president John Mahama,” he insisted.

Ghanaians aren’t stupid- Bridget Otoo blasts Bawumia’s ‘GHC2 a month phones on credit’ promise

Media personality Bridget Otoo has sharply criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s recent campaign proposal to improve smartphone accessibility in Ghana.

During a campaign event in the Savannah Region, Bawumia promised to make smartphones available on a credit system, allowing Ghanaians to pay as little as one or two cedis per month.

However, Bridget Otoo dismissed the plan as unrealistic and condescending.

In a tweet on July 23, 2024, she pointed out the impracticality of the proposal, noting that at such low monthly payments, it would take an excessively long time to repay the total amount.

She argued that this approach undermines the intelligence of voters, calling it both disrespectful and a sign of desperation.
“4500 cedis means it would take 37 years to finish paying. Does it make sense to him?

“This is not even desperation but just disrespectful to think your voters are stupid,” Bridget Otoo stated.
