Alan Kyerematen unveils 152 solutions to Ghana’s economic woes

Leader of the Movement for Change and 2024 Independent Presidential aspirant, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has put forward 152 practical solutions he believes can transform Ghana’s current economic woes.

These solutions, formulated by a team of experts assembled by Kyerematen, were unveiled at the National Economic Summit organized by his movement.

The proposed solutions cover four key areas identified under the Economic Cluster, focusing on macroeconomy, industrial transformation, agricultural transformation, and tourism.

Kyerematen expressed confidence that these initiatives would instill hope among Ghanaians and alleviate the prevailing hardships.

Drawing a contrast with the approach of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during his tenure as running mate in the opposition, Kyerematen emphasized his commitment to providing solutions rather than merely raising questions. He highlighted the need for proactive measures to address the country’s pressing issues, underlining his readiness to collaborate with the government in implementing these solutions.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s political talk show “Ɛkosii Sɛn,” Kyerematen elaborated further on the proposed solutions. He also pledged to abolish the controversial electronic transaction levy (e-levy) if elected as President. Kyerematen criticized the e-levy, describing it as detrimental to the welfare of Ghanaians and arguing that its abolition would promote electronic transactions and stimulate economic growth.

Kyerematen’s stance on the e-levy aligns with his broader vision of fostering economic development and prosperity in Ghana. With his comprehensive set of solutions and commitment to addressing pressing economic challenges, Kyerematen aims to offer a viable path forward for the country’s economic recovery and growth.

  • Kwesi Pratt Jr. accuses Dr Bawumia of betraying Akufo-Addo’s in pursuit of presidency

Kwesi Pratt Jr. accuses Dr Bawumia of betraying Akufo-Addo’s in pursuit of presidency

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr., has launched scathing criticism against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of betraying President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s trust in his quest for the presidency.

Pratt’s remarks come in response to recent comments made by Dr Bawumia, which Mr Pratt interprets as a deliberate attempt to distance himself from the Akufo-Addo administration.

Expressing his concerns during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program on February 6, 2024, Pratt asserted that Bawumia’s recent statements suggest a conscious effort to disassociate himself from the Akufo-Addo government. Pratt highlighted Bawumia’s remarks about being a “driver’s mate” and an “assistant headmaster” as indicative of this distancing strategy.

Pratt emphasized that Bawumia had been deeply involved in all aspects of the government and was privy to key decision-making processes. Therefore, Pratt questioned Bawumia’s attempt to portray himself as merely a subordinate figure within the administration. He argued that if Bawumia felt certain policies needed correction, he should have addressed them directly rather than attempting to deflect blame onto President Akufo-Addo.

“Akufo-Addo brought you from outside the party, supported you in all aspects, and now, at the last minute, because you want to become president, you have betrayed him by saying you are taking a new path and claiming to be an assistant headmaster, which is a complete betrayal,” Pratt remarked during the discussion.

Pratt further criticized Bawumia’s ambiguity regarding his role within the government, suggesting that if Bawumia acknowledges his responsibilities as vice president, there would be no issue. However, Pratt argued that Bawumia’s recent statements raise questions about his loyalty and commitment to the Akufo-Addo administration.

Bawumia’s previous statements, including likening his role to that of an “assistant headmaster” and expressing his own vision and priorities for governance, were cited by Pratt as evidence of Bawumia’s ambitions to pursue the presidency independently of President Akufo-Addo.

Dr Bawumia urges protection of Financial Data against cyber attacks

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has underscored the importance of integrating cybersecurity measures within the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD).

The Vice President emphasized the need for heightened vigilance against cyber threats to maintain the trust of clients and stakeholders.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 annual conference of the CAGD, Dr Bawumia, represented by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, highlighted cybersecurity as a critical area requiring special attention amidst increasing digitalization.

He emphasized the necessity for accountants to adapt to evolving technologies and regulations through continuous professional development to effectively combat cyber threats.

Under the theme, ‘Enhancing Economic Growth Through Innovation and Adaptation,’ the two-day conference convened approximately 700 delegates, including heads of accounts from various government bodies and agencies. Discussions centered on the pivotal role of public sector accountants in revenue generation and expenditure control to foster economic growth.

The opening ceremony coincided with the inauguration of six brand new 4×4 vehicles for regional offices, while the closing ceremony witnessed the unveiling of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) manuals, underscoring the department’s commitment to transparency and accountability in financial management.

Controller and Accountant General, Mr Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, highlighted the department’s achievements, including the implementation of the e-travel card portal and the Ghana Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS) to streamline budget preparation and management processes.

Additionally, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem emphasized the significance of innovation in driving progress, stressing the department’s commitment to seeking new and creative ways to improve systems and services.

  • No DCE was sacked because they were anti-Bawumia – Dan Botwe

No DCE was sacked because they were anti-Bawumia – Dan Botwe

The Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Decentralisation, Daniel Botwe, has refuted allegations that President Akufo-Addo dismissed 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) due to their opposition to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential aspirations.

Rumors circulated suggesting that the former DCEs were ousted to prevent any hindrance to Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming general election in December 2024.

In an interview with Asaase FM, Mr. Botwe dismissed these claims, categorizing them as unfounded and urged people to disregard such speculation.

”This speculation has no basis at all. Nobody can make this allegation a statement of fact. The President who has worked with these people knows them very well and knows why he’s kicked them out of office.

“One cannot say that DCEs who have been sacked are from areas where Dr. Bawumia didn’t perform well during the NPP flagbearer race. This claim is not supported by any statistics or any facts, so let’s not make such allegations,” he said.

”The President, at any point in time, looks at the team he’s working with and makes changes as he deems necessary to strengthen his government to enable him to meet the aspirations of the people. That is exactly what he’s done with this reshuffle.”

He emphasized that assertions linking the removal of DCEs to regions where Dr. Bawumia performed poorly in the NPP flagbearer race lack statistical support and factual basis.

“The President, at any point in time, looks at the team he’s working with and makes changes as he deems necessary to strengthen his government to enable him to meet the aspirations of the people. That is exactly what he’s done with this reshuffle,” Botwe explained.

On February 2, the President revoked the appointments of 24 DCEs nationwide, without providing an explicit explanation. Some sources suggest that the dismissals were concentrated in regions where Dr. Bawumia faced challenges during the previous year’s primaries.

In a separate statement on February 3, the President appointed 26 new individuals to replace the dismissed DCEs. The statement outlined that the appointments are pending approval by their respective assemblies, in accordance with article 243 (3) of the Constitution.

Adaklu MP accuses govt of dishonesty in implementing Vehicle Emission Tax

Minority Chief Whip in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has criticized the government for proceeding with the implementation of the Vehicle Emission Tax, describing it as a deceptive way of reintroducing road tolls.

Agbodza asserted that the tax, which came into effect on February 1, 2024, is not aimed at reducing emissions or combating climate change. Instead, he alleges it is a method of extracting money from motorists under the guise of environmental concerns.

In his response on X, Kwame Agbodza challenged the government to provide clear explanations on how the tax revenue will be utilized to address environmental issues. He questioned the transparency of the government’s motives behind the implementation of the Vehicle Emission Tax.

According to Agbodza, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, bears responsibility for introducing what he labeled a draconian tax. He expressed skepticism about the government’s sincerity, stating, “Vehicle Emission Tax is nothing but the reintroduction of ROAD TOLLS. It has nothing to do with emissions and climate change mitigation. Government is not being honest with Ghanaians about it. If it were to be about Climate Change, they should have been telling us how the specific amounts collected will be applied.

Dr Bawumia is to blame for the introduction of this new DRACONIAN EMISSION TAX.”

Meanwhile, the new Vehicle Emission Tax imposes varying annual fees on different vehicle types:

    • Motorcycles & tricycles: GHS75 per annum
    • Motor vehicles, buses, and coaches up to 3000 cc: GHS150 per annum
    • Motor vehicles, buses, and coaches above 3000 cc: GHS300 per annum
    • Cargo trucks and articulated trucks: GHS300 per annum

Prempeh, who was seeking re-election for a fourth term, faced a setback in her political journey when she lost to Dr. Gideon Boako, the spokesperson to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. The primary, held on January 27, saw Dr Boako securing 444 votes, while the incumbent MP gathered 221 votes.

In a statement following the outcome, Prempeh demonstrated resilience and a positive outlook, emphasizing the inherent nature of elections where one either emerges victorious or faces defeat.

“When you go into an election, you either win or lose; you cannot break even. You psych yourself to win but if it doesn’t happen that way, you respect the verdict of the people,” she shared with journalists during a ceremony.

The defeated MP highlighted the importance of trusting the judgment of the delegates, expressing her belief in the democratic process. She affirmed her commitment to continuing her service to the people of Tano North despite the setback.

“They say fear delegates, but I always say trust delegates because I trust their judgment. I will continue to serve the good people of Tano North,” she affirmed.

“They have spoken, and I accept it in good faith. I bear no grudges. I remain resolute and committed to supporting Bawumia to break the eight,” she added, signaling her dedication to the party’s objectives.

This endorsement underscores the group’s confidence and endorsement of Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy as they rally behind him for a successful electoral outcome.

Mr Musah Abdul-Basit, the group’s President, who made the announcement at this year’s congress of the group at Walewale in the NorthEast Region on Sunday, urged the youth to work to ensure that Dr Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, won the elections.

Mr Abdul-Basit said: “We urge the youth of Mamprugu to massively support one of our own to be President no matter the political colourations.”

“Insha Allah, if we have such an opportunity coming from another political party in the future, Zaabuni shall not shy away but give him/her the maximum support to be President of Ghana.”

The congress was to take stock of the area’s development and continue to champion better opportunities.

It was on the theme: “Rekindling the Glory of Mamprugu: Our Collective Responsibility”.

Mr Abdul-Basit emphasised the mark Dr Bawumia had left in every corner of Mamprugu and said the youth would work hard to ensure he won the election to make history for the area.

He mentioned the extension of electricity to most communities and the construction of sports facilities as some of the government’s projects there,  saying: “Mamprugu Traditional Area is very happy for having a region of its own.”

The group, within its eight years of existence, could boast of paying the medical bills and school fees of some residents as well as securing a large tract of land to build an educational institution, he said.

Mr Abdul-Basit urged the youth to help in restoring prosperity and promote peace for development and opportunities to thrive.

Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has publicly affirmed his preparedness to stand as the running mate for NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 elections. This declaration marks a noteworthy development in the political landscape, as Dr. Adutwum expresses his willingness to take on a crucial role in the party’s leadership for the upcoming electoral contest.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, January 9, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe confirmed his readiness to offer his services to Ghana whenever the need arises.

“I am here to serve my nation, in any capacity I find myself I will serve this nation,” Dr Adutwum said.

The quest for Dr. Bawumia’s running mate in the forthcoming general elections has brought forward prominent figures, with notable names such as Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Suame MP Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu in the spotlight.

n a departure from the NPP’s usual practice, the party granted Dr. Bawumia additional time to select his running mate in December last year.

The party’s National Council, having the authority to make exceptions to party rules, agreed to waive the requirement that the vice presidential candidate be chosen one year before elections.

This decision provides Dr. Bawumia with an extended timeframe to carefully consider his options and select the most suitable candidate for his running mate.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has offered some words of encouragement to

Chef Abdul-Razak Failatu who is attempting to break the Guiness World Record for longest hours for cooking.

The Vice President made the remarks during his visit to the chef in Tamale.

Speaking to the media, the Vice President said the attempt by both Chef Faila and event organiser Afua Asantewaa has put Ghana on the map and proves that it is possible to accomplish anything one sets their mind to.

“When I say it is possible, it means it is possible for us to be the best. It is possible to beat the best in the world. That mindset is what Ghanaians need. That possibility mindset and what Afua did in the sing-a-thon, showed that it was possible to be the best in the world.

“What Faila is also doing here is showing that it is possible to break the world record and we are here to support her so that she does it and we all going to be very happy when she does it,” he said.

Prior to his visit, the Vice President on January 1, 2023, the Vice President donated an amount of GH₵30,000 to the Chef.

Bawumia touts NPP’s efforts in championing education of Ghanaian children

Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has asserted that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demonstrated its trustworthiness in the education of Ghanaian children.

This declaration underscores the party’s commitment and track record in the educational sector under its leadership.

Addressing the 63rd Conference of the Ghana Muslim Mission in Kumasi on Saturday, December 31, Vice President Dr. Bawumia emphasized that with 7 years of dedicated investment in the Free SHS policy and its evident positive impact, the NPP proudly presents a substantial track record in effectively overseeing the education of Ghanaian children.

Dr. Bawumia, who listed the successes of the Free SHS policy, including an increase in enrollment from 800,000 to 1.4m in seven years and gender parity in enrollment, said some people predicted doom for Free SHS, and are now denigrating the success of the policy.

“While the government rolled out the Free SHS policy, much to the excitement and relief of parents, some pessimists predicted doom for Free SHS,” said Dr. Bawumia.

“They said Free SHS was a scam. They said it was 419 and they said if they 2 billion cedis to spend, they won’t spend it on Free SHS.” They said Free SHS will lower the quality of educational standards.

Dr. Bawumia added that “at the end of the 2023 WASSCE, nearly 70% of Ghanaian students who sat the exam passed, representing the highest pass rate since 2015.”

“There are those, who, instead of congratulating the students and their hard-working teachers for their remarkable success, are rather denigrating their efforts, by questioning the credibility of the score of the WAEC exams they wrote,”

Dr. Bawumia also reminded the audience that the last NDC government also cancelled allowances for teacher trainees, nursing trainees and Arabic instructors and it took The NPP government to restore these allowances. In addition, the NPP government introduced free TVET education.

While slamming the negative attitude of “Our opponent” to Free SHS and other educational initiatives, Dr. Bawumia concluded that “the future of the education of Ghanaian children will be safer in the hands of the NPP”.

“We, the NPP, have demonstrated that we can be trusted with the education of our children,” he said.

“Free SHS will not be safe in the hands of our main opponent. Let us not sacrifice the future of our children on the altar of people’s political ambitions,“ he added.

Leaked list of NPP big wigs eyeing for Bawumia’s running mate position

A list is currently circulating on social media, purportedly unveiling a roster of individuals eyeing for the Vice President slot within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The unverified compilation, consisting of names like Chief of Staff, Frema Opare; Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta; Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu; Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum etc., has triggered widespread curiosity, with many Ghanaians wondering who among these names will finally end up as the running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The Chief of Staff’s name has emerged as one of the key contenders for the position. As a seasoned political figure, Frema Opare is believed to possess the potential to become the Vice President. There are also rumors from deep throat sources in the ruling New Patriotic Party that top guns in the New Patriotic Party are trying to impose her candidacy as the Vice President on Dr Bawumia.

Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta, is recognized for his role in infrastructure development in the country. Since January 2017, he’s held the position of the Roads Minister after his appointment by president Akufo-Addo. Nonetheless, there are circulating rumors suggesting that influential figures within the New Patriotic Party are attempting to advocate for his candidacy as the Vice President, potentially imposing it on Dr Bawumia.

Rumors are also rife that Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu, is also among the list of persons staunch members of the NPP are imposing on Dr Bawumia.

Ursula Owusu is a familiar face in Ghanaian politics. The inclusion of her name fuels discussions about the potential advantages her communications skills could bring to the NPP’s electoral pursuits.

As the Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum’s name on the list adds an educational dimension to the speculated contenders. Ghanaians, however, are contemplating how his background in education could shape the party’s appeal in future elections.

Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, is no stranger to navigating complex portfolios. His presence on the list has ignited conversations about the possible influence of his energy sector experience on the party’s agenda.

All these names have emerged as potential candidates to support Dr Bawumia and compete against former President John Mahama and his Vice President. Although he has not made a selection yet, there are also speculations that he might go back to pick Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman.

In the ongoing efforts to launch the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs program, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that the government has successfully secured over 60,000 hectares of land for the establishment of agricultural zones.

These zones will be located in the Eastern, Ashanti, Upper West, Northern, and North East regions.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the government’s commitment to completing the development of 50,000 hectares of land in land valleys by 2024. This initiative aims to expand the cultivation of rice, soya, and maize.

Speaking at the 39th National Farmers Day Awards Night held in the Western region, he stated, “We have set ourselves ambitious but achievable targets every year of the five-year period of the programme (PFJ 2.0).”

On Monday, August 28, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative at the University for Development Studies in Tamale.

This new phase, aimed at leveraging the achievements of the initial program, constitutes a comprehensive five-year master plan.

Its primary objective is to revolutionize agriculture in Ghana, emphasizing modernization through the development of specific commodity value chains and active involvement of the private sector.

The program also focuses on enhancing service delivery to maximize impact. Notably, it introduces a shift from direct input subsidy to intelligent agricultural financial support, providing comprehensive input credit with provisions for in-kind payment.

Bawumia cried more than 17 times in his office – Captain Smart says

Onua TV/Radio presenter, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has unveiled a startling revelation on the emotional distress and hardships experienced by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an edition of Onua TV’s Maakye Show, Captain Smart identified individuals such as Gabby Otchere-Darko, Asante Bediatuo, and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as part of those who allegedly lack respect for the Vice President, treating him with indifference or disrespect.

He further mentions that the Vice President has, on multiple occasions, been compelled to shed tears in his office due to the unbearable treatment he keeps receiving from his people in the NPP.

“I can on authority tell you that Bawumia has cried more than 17 times in his office as Vice President. The way he is being treated, God have mercy,” Captain Smart confidently claimed.

Captain Smart alleged that Mrs Bawumia had a first hand experience of the ill treatment against her husband during a visit to the Jubilee House in December 2022.

“Someone should ask Samira Bawumia. Last year, 28th December at 2:45pm, she wept like a baby. You should ask her what happened. Ask Samira Bawumia, after one cabinet meeting where she visited her husband at Jubilee House, they were saying hurtful things about Bawumia,” the Onua TV/Radio presenter revealed.

  • NPP is anti-northerners, they won’t let Bawumia become a President – Mahama (FLASHBACK)

NPP is anti-northerners, they won’t let Bawumia become a President – Mahama (FLASHBACK)

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections. Dr. Bawumia won the presidential primary held on November 4, 2023, with 118210 votes representing 61.43% of total votes.

The Electoral Commission has declared him as the winner and the new leader of the NPP.

This development has brought attention to a past statement from former President John Dramani Mahama, who had claimed that the NPP would never allow Dr. Bawumia to be its flagbearer.

Mr. Mahama, who was the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 and 2020 elections, had made this remark during a campaign rally in the Northern Region in November 2016.

Below is an excerpt from an article published on citifmonline.com that reported Mr. Mahama’s statement:

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will never allow its current Running Mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be its Flagbearer, President John Mahama has stated.

According to President Mahama, the NPP has always taken northerners for granted and he expressed pity for those who sided with the main opposition party over his governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He thus asked northerners to reject the NPP describing it as a party that does not believe in the potential of Northerners. Addressing residents of Lawra in the Upper West Region, President Mahama, himself a native of Bole in the Northern Region, lamented, “Sometimes I feel sad when I see some of our northern brothers running and also doing this.

They will use you and dump you.“Let anything happen today and let our brother Bawumia say he is standing for president in NPP. They will never give it to him I can assure you.”

President Mahama hearkened back to the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills which led to him assuming the mantle of the Presidency and later the flagbearership of the NDC going into the 2012 elections.

He reminded that he had the full backing of the party executives of the NDC and no congress was needed as he opined that, “if it was another party, they would have insisted there should be a congress and in that congress I would have been contested and they would have given the leadership to somebody else.”

President Mahama thus declared, “I am proud to be a member of the NDC because I know it is a party that opens opportunities for all people of Ghana irrespective of your ethnic affiliation or you religious affiliation.”

Mr. Mahama’s statement has been proven wrong by the outcome of the NPP flagbearer election, which has shown that the party has confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and vision.

Dr. Bawumia, who is also a native of the Northern Region, has been the running mate of President Nana Akufo-Addo since 2008 and has played a key role in the NPP’s economic and digital policies. He has also been praised for his performance as the head of the Economic Management Team and the Vice Chair of the Police Council.

Dr. Bawumia will face the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the 2024 presidential election.

Bawumia donates GHS160,000 to displaced victims of Akosombo Dam spillage

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has generously contributed GH₵160,000 from his personal funds to aid the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Numerous communities across eight districts, primarily in the Volta Region but also in the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions, have suffered displacement due to the dam’s overflow. Dr. Bawumia presented this donation during his visit to some of the affected communities in the Volta Region on Wednesday, October 17, 2023.

The government has already taken action by relocating affected individuals to 20 holding centers and providing essential emergency relief supplies through the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and an inter-ministerial committee established to oversee disaster management.

Dr. Bawumia’s personal contribution is intended to complement the assistance provided by the government to the displaced victims. While expressing his heartfelt sympathies, the Vice President assured the victims that the government is fully dedicated to delivering both immediate solutions and relief to help them rebuild their lives.

“When I look into the eyes of our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers who are seated here, I see so much sadness. Their lives have been turned upside down as a result of what has happened,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“These are people who were going about their normal duties every day to take care of themselves, but now they have to really depend on others for livelihood, and I am saddened by that.

“I want to assure that the government will do everything possible to assist the affected people to provide relief and also restore the livelihood of those affected.

“We are not only looking at temporary relief, we are also looking at a more sustained support through the Inter-Ministerial Committee, so that those affected can restore their livelihoods.”

During his visit, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia toured several communities, including New Bakpa in the Central Tongu District, as well as Sogakope and Sokpoe, both located in the South Tongu District.

He was joined by a delegation of government officials, including the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery; Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; Volta Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa; and representatives from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Volta River Authority (VRA).

Video: The moment Bawumia ‘borrows’ Kennedy Agyapong’s ‘showdown’ comment

Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has once again displayed his famous sense of humour in the Oti Region when he used the “showdown” remark by Kennedy Agyepong to caution the NDC of his challenge to them in the 2024 elections.

Dr. Bawumia told the NPP delegates at Nkwanta, in the Oti Region, that he is the most suitable person to lead the NPP and defeat the NDC in next year’s elections because he has a strong appeal in the NDC’s stronghold regions.

“The Zongo’s are saying something beautiful and interesting. They say they don’t believe the NPP will bring Dr. Bawumia as flagbearer. But they also say, if you bring Dr. Bawumia, they will vote for him,” said the Vice President.

He continued: “When you look at the North and the Zongo, these strongholds of the NDC will fall if Dr. Bawumia is elected the flagbearer. These two will fall, and when they fall, the NDC cannot win the election. In the Volta Region too, I will get more votes.”

“Their strongholds will shake when Dr. Bawumia is the flagbearer. They know it, that is why they are so scared of Dr. Bawumia. They know that I will give them a showdown,” Dr. Bawumia said, amidst his characteristic laughter, and cheers from the delegates.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its Super Delegates Congress on Saturday, August 26, 2023, to select the top five candidates who will contest the party’s presidential primary in November.

Out of the eight aspirants who filed their nomination forms, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the clear frontrunner with 629 votes, followed by Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong with 132 votes. Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan John Kyeremanteng came third with 95 votes, while former Food and Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto secured the fourth spot with 36 votes.

The fifth position was tied between former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former Member of Parliament for Mampong Francis Addai Nimoh, who both received nine votes each. The other two aspirants, Economist Kofi Konadu Apraku and former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong were eliminated from the race after failing to meet the minimum threshold of five per cent of the total valid votes cast. Alan Kyerematen and Mr Boakye Agyarko have so far withdrawn from the race. If no one else withdraws, the remaining four (4) will contest in the presidential primary on November 4, 2023.

The presidential primary will be held in all 275 constituencies of the country and will be open to all registered members of the party. The candidate who obtains more than 50 per cent of the total valid votes cast will be declared the flagbearer of the NPP for the 2024 general election.

  • Statistician predicts 92% probability of Bawumia winning NPP presidential primary

Statistician predicts 92% probability of Bawumia winning NPP presidential primary

Researcher and Statistician Prof. Smart Sarpong has asserted that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia stands a 92% likelihood of emerging victorious in the New Patriotic Party’s delegates’ election scheduled for November 4.

Additionally, he assessed Kennedy Agyapong’s prospects at 61.5% and former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen‘s chances at 46.6%.

He thus entreated the two other contenders, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh to contemplate forming alliances with one of the leading three contenders, as their chances of securing victory are extremely slim.

The researcher sets out to provide statistical justification that the recent Super Delegates’ Congress has the possibility of influencing choices of delegates in the main polls in November.

Prof. Smart Sarpong explained the mechanism of his 961 sample size from the super delegates.

“There is something we call elevation factor which means divide the population by the sample, now you go to the reasonableness of the elevation factor. The question I asked myself is whether the caliber of people who voted, if they can have influence over the others, for me it is Yes.”

“These estimates are founded on statistical laws. My margin of error is only 3.2% and my confidence interval is 95% ”, the statistician said.

By the formula, he said the ability of the super delegates to influence their subordinates to vote for their choices improves the chances of the desired candidate.

According to him, the numbers show that supporters of Dr. Bawumia have a task to convince at least 301 electors to brighten his chances of winning.

Prof. Sarpong indicated that the 132 delegates who voted for Kennedy Agyapong will have to win 1,434 members with each of the 95 faithful of Alan Kyerematen mobilizing up to 1,992 delegates to vote their choice.

“The question I asked myself is whether there is any constituency Chairman who cannot influence 210 members of his constituency?”

“If you are Chairman of a constituency and you cannot mobilize 210 people then you are not worthy”, Prof. Sarpong explained.

Meanwhile, the statistician believes the NPP must set standards for candidates rather than choosing first five persons who file nominations to contest.

“They rather have to set pass mark and not merely looking for five”, he concluded.

  • It’s disrespectful to suggest Alan must be a running mate – Campaign team

It’s disrespectful to suggest Alan must be a running mate – Campaign team

A member of Alan Kyerematen‘s campaign group, Kwesi Korang, has refuted allegations that the ex-Minister of Trade and Industry was presented with the opportunity to become the running mate for any candidate in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

During an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline program, he rejected the assertions as inaccurate and lacking in respect.

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has voiced his disapproval of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen for not endorsing Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s suggestion to collaborate with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the NPP’s 2024 candidacy.

Chairman Wontumi holds the view that Alan Kyerematen’s third position in the Super Delegates Conference will shift attention to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong. He suggests that the remaining contenders will encounter a learning curve in the political arena.

Wontumi is of the opinion that Dr Bawumia’s widespread appeal and absence of prior political involvement position him as the favored contender, given his lack of previous election participation.

He believes that other contestants will be better off out of the contest, as they will be paying “Political School Fees.”

However, in response to these remarks, Kwesi Korang stated that it would be disrespectful for such a proposal to be made given that Alan was far more senior in the party than him.

”I don’t think Dr. Bawumia will not make such a move,” he told host Kwabena Agyapong. This disgusting act will not be carried out by the Vice President of this country. Alan Kyerematen is Bawumia’s senior. Alan will not make such a move out of respect for Alan”.

When confronted with the example of Barrack Obama and Joe Biden Biden and that Obama was not politically exposed and experienced, but Biden agreed to partner with Obama, so Alan partnering with Bawumia was not a big deal, he said, ”Bawumia would not do this. I don’t think he’ll do it. I also doubt the party will allow this to happen. Such a proposal must be rejected by the party. We cannot allow anyone from anywhere to become president, and someone who has been a member of the party for years would be sacrificed”.

Meanwhile, he has refuted claims that the ‘Adrumiso’ campaign caused Alan in the superdelegates conference, saying, “I don’t think that caused him. Show me one person who had not declared for Bawumia before the superdelegates conference. We even thought that Bawumia would get 99 percent. So the votes he secured saved the party from those who wanted to impose a candidate on us. Some planned to push for an agenda to impose Bawumia on us if he received 80 percent of the vote at the superdelegates conference.”

He further expressed profound gratitude to the delegates for voting for him massively.

“When we started this journey, many people thought it was not possible but by the grace of God, it is possible. So I’ll like to start by giving thanks to God almighty because he made this possible.

“The victory that we have chalked today is an emphatic victory, it is a victory for the grassroots of our party, it is a victory for the delegates who voted today, it is a victory for the country. I believe that we have embarked on the journey towards winning election 2024 and it has taken a lot of hard work and it will take more hard work.

  • Tamale International Airport will create more travel options, boost local jobs, generate investments – British High Commissioner

Tamale International Airport will create more travel options, boost local jobs, generate investments – British High Commissioner

British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, has stated that the UK government’s financial commitment to northern Ghana, particularly in relation to the Tamale International Airport, will have a positive impact on both Ghana’s economic expansion and the promotion of tourism throughout the region.

She emphasized that the successful realization of the Tamale Airport Project is a demonstration of the favorable results stemming from the collaborative relationship between the UK and Ghana.

Ms Thompson made these remarks during the inauguration of Phase II of the Tamale International Airport Project in Tamale on Tuesday.

Harriet Thompson joined the Country Director from the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, Giselle Agyare and the UK’s Northern Ghana Attaché, Paul Edwards as Ghana’s Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia opened the new Tamale International Airport.

The UK government provided backing for the Tamale Airport project through its Ghanaian arm, UK Export Finance (UKEF).

The airport’s anticipated impact includes enhancing connectivity within the nation and the West African vicinity, alongside fostering economic development in northern Ghana. This will be achieved by facilitating increased exports of regional agricultural commodities like shea butter, cashew nuts, and mangoes.

Interacting with the media after the ceremony, Mrs Thompson said the expansion of the Tamale International Airport would galvanise investment and growth across the northern part of Ghana.

“Tamale and this whole area of the country are now connected to markets across the continent and the world.

“We also recognise the strength of the UK-Ghana economic partnership.

“This project was driven by the UK-Ghana Business Council, financed through UK Export Finance and built by British companies working alongside Ghanaian companies,” she said.

Led by UK Company QGMI UK, the project has already provided jobs for more than 500 people, seen 2000 trees planted across the site and seen the implementation of a Livelihood Restoration Plan by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), to adequately compensate landowners and users and support them in restoring their primarily land-based livelihoods.

The UK Minister for Exports, Lord Offord said: “Strengthening local infrastructure is key to supporting Ghana’s economic recovery.

“It’s fantastic to see the completed transformation of Tamale airport, backed by UK Export Finance and UK construction companies, which will create more travel options around the country, boost local jobs and generate further opportunities for businesses to invest.”

The new expansion will increase tourism to and from the North with a particular focus on the Hajj, benefitting Hajj pilgrims as the new Multipurpose Facility will serve as a terminal building during the Hajj Season.

The project was initiated by the UK-Ghana Business Council, since its formation in 2018.

The Council has supported more than £223m of investment in infrastructure across the country and created opportunities for both UK and Ghanaian businesses.

Next April, London will host the 2024 UK-African Investment Summit, bringing together political and business leaders, as well as representatives of international and regional organisations from the UK and African countries, including Ghana, as a further boost to trade and investment.

The UK Export Finance is the UK’s export credit agency and a government department, working alongside the Department for Business and Trade as an integral part of its strategy and operations.

I’ve contributed significantly to Ghana’s development, vote for me – Bawumia to NPP delegates

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has asserted that he has significantly contributed to Ghana’s progress during his tenure within the Akufo-Addo administration.

He emphasized his dedication to facilitating the transformation of Ghana, underscoring his commitment to the nation’s advancement.

This declaration was delivered during his address to stakeholders of the ruling New Patriotic Party in Donkorkrom, specifically within the Afram Plains North constituency, last Saturday.

Dr. Bawumia said: “I am always driven by public service, not the desire for personal gains”.

“It is the reason I am offering myself, first to be elected flagbearer of our party, and then I can offer myself to the people of Ghana so that I can continue to contribute towards the transformation of our country,” Dr Bawumia noted.

As Vice President, Dr Bawumia said he has done so much for Ghana.

“I have not been president, but as vice president, I have worked so hard and contributed significantly to the development of our country through landmark policies I have initiated and spearheaded,” Dr. Bawumia said.

Among the policies that Dr. Bawumia has championed are the establishment of One Constituency-One Ambulance, the inception of the Agenda 111 hospital initiative, and the introduction of the Digital Addressing System.

Additionally, he has overseen the digitization of key sectors such as the ports, Passport offices, and DVLA, while also spearheading the creation of the ghana.gov payment platform. His contributions further encompass the implementation of the money interoperability system and the development of the e-Pharmacy platform.

In his bid for the flagbearer position, Dr. Bawumia faces competition from nine other contenders.

A significant step in this selection process will be the superdelegates conference scheduled for August 26, 2023.

During this event, the number of aspirants will be narrowed down to five in preparation for the main primaries set to take place on November 4, 2023.

  • Ken Agyapong, four other aspirants reached out to me but I declined to support – Atta Akyea

Ken Agyapong, four other aspirants reached out to me but I declined to support – Atta Akyea

MP representing Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has disclosed that he turned down offers to support the campaigns of five out of the ten individuals vying for the position of flagbearer in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) contest.

“Dr Bawumia’s track record is unquestionable. He is a man you can trust, and the party shall reward him resoundingly.

“He is the man to take NPP and Ghana to the next level. He is the one who stood in for the party during the election petition. In fact, he never abandoned the party when the going got tough,” Mr Atta Akyea told party faithful in his constituency on Tuesday, August 8.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is presently engaged in an intense campaign across the Eastern Region, seeking to secure the position of the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming general election.

According to Mr. Atta Akyea’s viewpoint, the vice president enters the presidential competition with extensive political expertise and an unparalleled track record, surpassing that of his rivals.

“Five of the aspirants called me and wanted me to support their bids, but I flatly rejected.

“Kennedy Agyapong called me but I decided not to support him even though we were at Adisadel College together.

“Joe Ghartey brought me up as a lawyer, but decided not to support him, as for Boakye Agyarko, he has given me all the books I want but I decided not to support him all because I believe in the ability and capabilities of Dr Bawumia,” Mr Atta Akyea said amid thunderous applause from the gathering.

The MP praised Dr. Bawumia as being the ideal candidate to help the NPP win the upcoming general elections.

The NPP has set 4 November 2023 as the date for its presidential primaries to select a flagbearer for the general election in 2024.

But prior to the main congress, the party will hold a special electoral college on 26th August to cut the number of candidates from ten to five for the main primaries.

  • Bawumia is not the cause of Ghana’s current woes – Spokesperson defends Vice President

Bawumia is not the cause of Ghana’s current woes – Spokesperson defends Vice President

Spokesperson for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, has urged critics to cease attributing the nation’s economic difficulties to the Vice President.

Dr Boako highlighted that even though Dr Bawumia leads the Economic Management Team, he is not responsible for the challenges faced by Ghana.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated significant competence and dedication to Ghana’s development since joining the New Patriotic Party and assuming the role of Vice President of the country.

“This government has built interchanges than any government since 1992, we should say Bawumia did that. This government has built railways than any government since 1992, let’s say Bawumia did that. This government has installed more rural telephonists than any government since 1992, we should credit Bawumia for doing that.

“This government has built classrooms more than any other government since 1992, let’s say Bawumia did that. This government has created 2.1 million jobs more than any other government has provided jobs to Ghanaians since 1992, let’s say Bawumia did that…If you say Bawumia should be blamed for anything bad about this government, then equally you should praise Bawumia for all the good things as well,” he said on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’.

To him, the blames on Bawumia are because he is contesting to become NPP Presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, so the critics think “we should give the dog a bad name and hang it”, stressing this behavior towards the Veep “is not proper”.

Dr Gideon Boako also swooped down on those wondering why Ghana still imports food products and argue that Dr. Bawumia who they believe as Head of the Economic Management Team should have installed economic strategies to stop importation.

“Rice importation is an agricultural issue. Bawumia is not the Minister for Agric…Why do you want to leave the person in charge of rice cultivation matters and blame Bawumia because he holds a title as the Head of Economic Management Team?”, he questioned.

He further emphasized that despite the “weaknesses and shortfalls” of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, this government is far better than the opposition National Democratic Congress.

  • My coming is a turning point for Ghana – Bawumia

My coming is a turning point for Ghana – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted allegations suggesting that he is not qualified to participate in the upcoming presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in his pursuit to lead the party in the 2024 general elections.

Countering the ‘aduru meso’ narrative, Dr Bawumia drew a comparison between his political trajectory and influence within the NPP to the experiences of the biblical figure Paul. He expressed a strong determination to disrupt the established pattern of eight years of governance under the Fourth Republic.

He told delegates on his campaign tour: “sometimes great individuals emerge at pivotal moments in history, just like the Apostle Paul emerged to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ,” proclaiming that “in the same way, my coming could be seen as a turning point for our nation”.

During his campaign tour in the Eastern Region, specifically in Aburi, Dr Bawumia made these remarks while engaging with party delegates. He encouraged them to support his candidacy for the party’s flagbearer position, emphasizing his intention to guide the party to victory in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing a gathering at the Aburi Presbyterian Women’s Training College, Dr Bawumia explained that “I stand before you today as a testament to the transformative power of politics. My journey has been like that of Paul, who went from being a persecutor to an apostle. Similarly, I have grown and evolved within the NPP, and I believe I am the ideal and surest candidate to ‘break the eight-year cycle’’.

Dr Bawumia stressed that he had succeeded in transforming the Vice Presidency from one of docility to activism, symbolic representation to policy implementation, and from mysticism to realism.

He said he believes he can effectively lead the NPP and bring about positive change for the nation, adding that “I have dedicated my life to public service, and I am determined to bring progress and prosperity to the people of Ghana. Together, we can build a nation that thrives on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable development’’.

Outlining some of his achievements, he noted that he had played a pivotal role in formulating and implementing programmes such as Zongo Development Fund, One District One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, Free Senior High School, Gold for Oil programme, among others.

He also accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in religious and tribal politics.

Dr. Bawumia asserted that the NDC is only resorting to divisive tactics by exploiting religious and tribal sentiments for political gain.

However, he urged the delegates to be mindful of such tendencies since the NDC has no message of hope for them, adding that the party was using these strategies to appeal to specific voter base and consolidate power, rather than focusing on the needs and aspirations of the Ghanaian people.

Dr Bawumia further argued that the NDC’s approach is detrimental to the unity and progress of Ghana as a nation, and stressed the importance of politics based on issues, policies, and the overall welfare of the population, rather than identity-based divisions.

  • Bawumia is the ideal candidate for NPP – Nana Akomea

Bawumia is the ideal candidate for NPP – Nana Akomea

A prominent spokesperson of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team, Nana Akomea, has voiced his strong support for the Vice President as the ideal candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general elections.

He believes that Dr Bawumia is the most suitable person to break the eight-year cycle of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning the presidency and also possesses the ability to gain support from both parties’ traditional strongholds.

During an interview with the media, Nana Akomea asserted that Dr Bawumia’s leadership could pose a threat to the NDC in their strongholds, such as the Volta Region, the Northern Region, and the Zongo settlements.

He emphasized that Dr Bawumia’s appeal lies in his capacity to bridge the gap between NPP and NDC strongholds, making him the most suitable candidate among all aspirants.

Furthermore, Nana Akomea expressed astonishment at the remarkable responses from party delegates to Dr Bawumia’s message of being the best candidate to break the eight-year cycle. He cited the extraordinary reactions, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where seven of the contesting aspirants hail from. Despite this, Dr Bawumia’s reception among delegates in Ashanti has been surprising and promising.

Nana Akomea’s statements reflect the growing support and belief within the NPP that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the right leader to steer the party to victory in the 2024 elections and bring an end to the NDC’s presidential reign.

“The NDC has their traditional strongholds in the Volta Region, the Northern Region, and the Zongo settlements. With Dr Bawumia, we believe that the NDC in the Northern Region and the Zongos will be threatened.

“He is the best person to reach across the NPP strongholds and the NDC strongholds. He is the best person among all the aspirants.

“Delegates’ responses everywhere have been extraordinary, particularly in Ashanti. I was particularly shocked by the reaction of the delegates because seven of the gentlemen in the contest are from Ashanti, so I wasn’t expecting that kind of reaction Dr Bawumia got in the Ashanti region,” he added.

ASSIN CENTRAL: Delegates defy constituency chairman to welcome Bawumia in branded T-shirts

During a meeting over the weekend, delegates in the Assin Central Constituency showed their defiance against the dictatorial orders of the Constituency Chairman Attakora Amaniammpong.

Despite being allegedly ordered not to accept and wear Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s t-shirts, the delegates resisted the chairman’s directives and chose to wear the t-shirts during their meeting with the Vice President.

Attakora Amaniammpong, the Constituency Chairman for Assin Central, had allegedly instructed the polling station executives and electoral area coordinators not to accept or wear Dr. Bawumia’s t-shirts when he visited Assin Central as part of his Central Regional tour on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

However, the delegates chose to exercise their own judgment and asserted their support for the Vice President by wearing the t-shirts despite the Chairman’s orders.

“We were told never to accept any t-shirt from the Bawumia campaign team for obvious reasons, but we have decided not to abide by this order” a polling station chairman stated.

Another delegate spoke about the order and why they had decided to defy it.

“This is democracy. We are one party and family. Why should we mistreat Dr. Bawumia because an aspirant comes from here? If Dr. Bawumia wins, how can we go out there to campaign for him to become president if we maltreat him today? This is why I am in his t-shirt,” he intimated.

The delegates heartily welcomed Vice President Bawumia as they praised him for his competent leadership.

    Atik Mohammed hails ‘competent’ Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has received yet another endorsement as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for its coming special delegates congress and the much anticipated presidential and parliamentary primaries.

Former PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed has described  Dr Bawumia as one of the finest brains Ghana and the New Patriotic Party has been blessed with.

Atik Mohammed, contributing to Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, tagged Dr. Bawumia as a competent leader saying, “I trust in the competence of the Vice President. I do. You see circumstances may somewhat create impressions about what he could otherwise have done but you cannot take his competence away from him”.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is among the ten candidates vying for the position of flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party as the party gears up for its Special Delegates Congress on August 26 and main congress on November 4, 2023.

The Special Delegates Congress is to trim the number of the aspirants to five and the five compete in the main Congress.

Atik absolved the Vice President of blames that he being the Head of the Economic Management Team (EMT) is responsible for the economic woes visited upon Ghanaians as a result of financial misdirection.

He argued that Dr. Bawumia, although Head of the EMT, is somehow only a figurehead of the team and that when it comes to making financial decisions, the buck stops with the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

“The Finance Minister does not answer to him. He has answers to the President. The point I am trying to establish is he is not the Head of the EMT in the sense that he controls economic policy. He is just a part of a team; he happens to chair that team…The team itself answers to somebody. You report to someone. The Finance Minister is answerable to only one person who is the President,” he said.

  • Revenues for ECG, Passport office surge due to digitisation agenda – Bawumia

Revenues for ECG, Passport office surge due to digitisation agenda – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that the government’s digitisation agenda has achieved impressive results.

He said the agenda has helped in maximising revenue for the country through some major institutions in the country including the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Passport office.

Speaking at the National Development Conference under the theme ‘Moral Vision and National Development’, he noted that this has demonstrated the transformative power of technology in driving efficiency, revenue growth, and improved services across crucial sectors of the economy.

He also stated that this has been instrumental in curbing corruption.

“In times past, it used to be easy to lie about your age and get away with it, particularly in the government sector. At the port, for instance, we have introduced the paperless system, and this came with resistance. Some of the custom officers organized demonstrations against the move, but we were firm on our stance. Today, at the offices of ECG, you can buy your credit without any challenges.”

Providing data to back his claim, he noted that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has increased its annual revenue from 450 million cedis to 1.2 million cedis after the power distribution company went digital.

He also indicated that the passport office has witnessed a significant change in its revenue mobilisation, from GHC1 million cedis to 64 million cedis.

Government has been pursuing a digitisation agenda, which has mainly been pushed by the Vice President. Various initiatives and projects aimed at embracing technology and digital transformation are integral components of this agenda.

Commenting on the development, the Vice President indicated that many challenges associated with the digitisation drive have been dealt with as a result.

“The challenges with ECG initially were that the revenues of ECG were constant and the values were the same. We looked at the architecture of revenue of ECG and we changed it. They were collecting 450 million cedis a month as revenue. We sent in a team to work on their system.

“There were sabotage attempts, such as people sending viruses into the system to destroy our work, but we were resilient and brought in a whole new architecture for ECG. Today, they make over 1 million cedis as revenues monthly. The same happened at the passport office, which was making 1 million cedis to over 65 million cedis.”

  • I was referring to a certain MP not Bawumia – Ken Agyapong on ‘economic competency’ criticism

I was referring to a certain MP not Bawumia – Ken Agyapong on ‘economic competency’ criticism

Assin Central Member of Parliament and presidential hopeful of the NPP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has addressed the controversy surrounding his strategic comment on the government’s management of the cedi, clarifying that it was not targeted at Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia.

In an interview on Home Radio, Mr Agyapong explained that his remarks were directed towards a specific Member of Parliament, rather than the Vice President.

He asserted that his intention was not to attack Vice President Bawumia, but to criticize another parliamentarian who had questioned the government’s strategic approach.

“The truth hurts…so you are the victim, and I am educating you, and you think I’m hitting back? You see, they are not being fair. I did not hit the Vice President but I hit one MP because he said, ‘We don’t want somebody who will come and say that I have done this and that for the party and Ghana, but we want a strategist,” Agyapong quoted.

Mr Agyapong then pointed out an incident in Parliament where the said MP had claimed that Ghana would not approach the International Monetary Fund (IMF), only to have the country seek IMF assistance later. This led Agyapong to question the MP’s claims of being a strategist, criticizing what he described as “diabolic ways”.

    Press disappointment

The Assin Central lawmaker also expressed his disappointment with the media, accusing them of sensationalising news and not providing the full context of his statements.

He emphasised that his remarks were made in an attempt to advise against divisive campaigning within the party and to promote unity among its members.

Mr Agyapong further opened up about his experiences with politics and the challenges he faced, stating, “The people that I have helped, made them who they are today, they are the ones that are against me. I bought cars, gave them money, campaigned for them to win their seats, but now, they’re my number one enemies. But I just look at them, and I say Lord, forgive them because of their stomach”.

Embrace AI – Bawumia urges education stakeholders

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on education stakeholders to seize the opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance teaching, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

During the 75th Anniversary celebration of Ghana National College in Cape Coast, the Vice President highlighted that the initiative, if utilized effectively, could serve as a means to narrow the gap between developed and developing nations.

“If we are in agreement that the boys and girls in our schools today are being trained to compete on the global stage, there is every justification for our students to be given exposure to AI.

“Government’s ongoing digitalisation agenda is ample testimony of its appreciation of AI and the commitment to ensure that this country is not left behind. We have focused on pursuing digitalisation as part of our economic strategy because the Fourth Industrial Revolution is upon us and we must be part of the modern world…

Hailing the impact Ghana National College has had on Ghana’s pre-and post colonial life, Vice President Bawumia said government was going to do its part in ensuring that AI becomes a key ingredient in providing education in Ghana.

“Whilst Government will do its part by leading the charting of a pathway to the deployment of meaningful AI in our national life, I expect our educational authorities to devise and deploy innovative teaching strategies that factor in ICT as a key ingredient,” he indicated.
