Renowned Ghanaian media personality Bridget Otoo has delivered a scathing rebuke directed at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, questioning his credibility and urging the public not to trust him.
On her social media platform, Otoo characterized the Vice President as ignorant, arrogant, and unrepentant, drawing parallels between him and what she termed “fool soldiers” known for their lack of accountability and propensity for dishonesty.
“Bawumia is exactly like his fool soldiers. Ignorant, arrogant, and unrepentant. Zero accountability, shameless liars,” Otoo declared, referencing what she viewed as false statements lacking credibility made by Dr. Bawumia.
She further criticized the Vice President’s approach, accusing him of paying lip service instead of taking proactive measures in his role.

The Minister of State designate at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei-Asare, has affirmed her unwavering commitment to ensuring the victory of Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming 2024 election.
In response to a question during her ministerial vetting regarding a news article where she reportedly expressed her dedication to seeing Dr. Bawumia elected, the Atiwa East MP reiterated her stance.
Pressed further on the extent of her allegiance to those remarks, the Deputy Finance Minister emphasized her allegiance to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), underscoring her responsibility to secure the victory of the party’s flagbearer.
“Yes! That is my focus, and that is what I am working towards. And I’ll do everything in my power to make that happen,” she said.
“I belong to the NPP party, and for the NPP party, our flagbearer is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, so I’ll make sure that I do everything possible in my capacity to make him win the elections in 2024″.
“I have just been voted for as the parliamentary candidate for the Atiwa East constituency. So, whatever I have to do to make sure that I work hard with the good people of Atiwa East sitting right behind me to make sure Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia wins this election, that is my focus,” she emphasized.

A recently surfaced video on social media captures a warm and friendly conversation between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Agyapong.
The two political figures, who had previously clashed during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race, seem to have put their differences aside as they engage in a hearty discussion.
While the content of their conversation remains undisclosed, the amicable interaction has ignited conversations and speculation on social media.
This reunion follows past tensions, including allegations of vote-buying, which were resolved when Agyapong conceded defeat after Bawumia was declared the NPP’s flagbearer.

A widely circulated video on social media features an old man whose name is undisclosed praising Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, declaring him a valuable asset to Ghana.
The unnamed individual, identified as an American Borger, emphasizes the potential loss to the nation if former President John Dramani Mahama is elected.
In the video, set against the backdrop of a construction site, the American Borger commends Vice President Bawumia for his exceptional leadership skills, expressing the belief that with adequate support, Bawumia can elevate Ghana to greater heights.
“We need Bawumia’s type to occupy various positions in Ghana, he is a gift to Ghana, we will make a big mistake if we vote back Mahama,” the American Borger stated.
Advocating for individuals of Bawumia’s calibre to assume various roles across the country, the speaker asserts that choosing otherwise by voting for Mahama would be a significant mistake.
Media personality Captain Smart, also known as Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has resurfaced with shocking revelations about Vice PresidentDr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s 2018 medical leave to London.
Smart alleges that the departure, initially attributed to health reasons, was a result of a sinister plot to take the Vice President’s life through poisoning.
Captain Smart claims that the urgency in Bawumia’s departure for medical treatment in London was not merely due to health concerns but a response to a serious poisoning attempt orchestrated by some members within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He asserted that this alleged plot is an attempt to silence Bawumia and hinder the implementation of his policies.
Furthermore, Smart contends that the second first lady, Samira Bawumia, came close to losing her husband as a consequence of this alleged poisoning.
He boldly stakes his reputation, asserting, “ I’m telling you, putting my job on the line at Media General if I’m lying I should be sacked or sued by His Excellence or Dr. Bawumia or Samira that her husband was poisoned, she nearly lost her husband some time ago, they don’t want to reveal the secret but I know, some members of the NPP want to silence her husband,” Captain Smart stated.
The recent death of Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah, reportedly due to an undisclosed illness, has reignited speculation surrounding Captain Smart’s earlier predictions.
In a flashback video circulating on social media, Smart is said to have made similar claims of an alleged poisoning that led to the demise of the former finance minister.
As the unfolding events continue to capture public attention, the truth behind Captain Smart’s allegations remains uncertain, leaving many eagerly awaiting further revelations.
A distinguished Ghanaian financier and former government official, Andrews Kwame Pianim addressed and refuted false claims circulating on social media.
Contrary to widespread speculation, Pianim asserted that he has no knowledge of being part of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s advisory committee.
During the interview, Pianim emphatically labelled the information as “fake news” and urged journalists to prioritise accuracy over sensationalism.
He emphasised the importance of fact-checking and discouraging the spread of misinformation in media circles. “I have no idea, I have been included inBawumia’s committee, they are all false, its fake news,” Kwame Pianim stated.
Andrews Kwame Pianim is a Ghanaian financier and former government official in the NPP government.
He served as Chief Executive Organizer (CEO) of New World Investments, a company he co-founded in 1995.
After ten years as a political prisoner, he made a 1996 bid to run for the presidency of Ghana on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but lost to the former President J.A. Kufuor.

‘I was not contacted to be an advisor to the Vice President's campaign team so don't congratulate me because it's not me It's fake news’ says Kwame Pianim on TV3.
Renowned Ghanaian reggae and Kuchoko artist, Abubakar Ahmed, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, has taken Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to task for including names of prominent personalities in his manifesto committee without proper authorization.
Blakk Rasta asserts that the Vice President’s deceptive tactics should not be attributed to the individuals named, emphasising that Dr. Bawumia’s pursuit of political power appears to involve dishonesty.
Highlighting the discontent among personalities such as Okyeame Kwame and Kwame Pianim, who disavowed any political allegiance after finding their names in the committee, Blakk Rasta criticised Dr. Bawumia’s alleged fabrications.
He pointed to Okyeame Kwame’s recent statement denying party allegiance and Kwame Pianim’s public denial of any connection to Bawumia’s committee as evidence of the Vice President’s untruthfulness.
“Okyeame Kwame recently released a communique to deny any allegiance to a political party. In fact, I called him to confirm, and he said he was just called to find out if he was interested, stating that he would only participate if compensated for his ideas. Similarly, Kwame Pianim publicly disassociated himself from Bawumia’s committee. Bawumia is the biggest liar Satan has created,” asserted Blakk Rasta.
Renowned economist Kwame Pianim stated that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team has not reached out to him to join as an advisor on his manifesto team.
He dismissed reports, claiming his appointment was untrue.
“I think it is fake news; nobody has talked to me; nobody has contacted me. I didn’t know when they were inaugurating it. Maybe it is not me; they mean somebody else but definitely, I have not been contacted,” he told Paa Kwasi Asare on the Business Focus on TV3 on Tuesday, March 5.
The complete roster of the 2024 Manifesto committee was endorsed by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the communications director of the campaign team.
He designated Kwame Pianim as an advisor to the economic subcommittee of the Manifesto team.
Dr Bawumia charged the committee to engage all stakeholders extensively in the formulation of the manifesto.
Popular actor Prince David Osei lauded Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as “one of the most prolific vice presidents we’ve ever had.”
Osei challenged sceptics to compare Bawumia with past vice presidents, highlighting the lack of impactful initiatives from predecessors like Kow Nkensen Arkaah, Prof John Evans Atta-Mills, and John Dramani Mahama.
Osei emphasised Bawumia’s achievements, particularly in digitalization, pointing to the success of the National Identification Authority’s Ghana Card in combating crime.
“Right now, we’re able to curb crime. All your information is available on the [Ghana] card… so they can track you down,” Prince David explained, stressing: “It’s helping fight crime.”
He commended the convenience of managing electric power and the interoperability of mobile money services, making life more comfortable for citizens.
Osei also praised Bawumia’s contributions to the health sector, specifically mentioning the use of drone technology for delivering medicine.
Asserting that Bawumia’s accomplishments as vice president are indicative of his potential as the country’s leader, Osei encouraged voters to support him in the upcoming presidential election.
The actor, who had previously campaigned for President Akufo-Addo in 2020, expressed confidence in Bawumia’s capabilities and urged voters to consider the vice president’s vision for the Republic of Ghana.
“If you give such a person the opportunity, he’ll do more,” Prince David declared, asking voters to favour Vice President Bawumia, on Accra 100.5 FM’s midmorning programme.
While Osei acknowledged economic challenges in 2022, he remained optimistic about Bawumia’s leadership.
As the nation prepares to elect its next president on December 7, the ruling NPP aims to break the traditional eight-year cycle, with former President John Dramani Mahama leading the opposition National Democratic Congress’s charge.
Chairperson of the sub-committee responsible for drafting the youth and sports segment of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s manifesto for the 2024 elections, Asamoah Gyan, has responded to critics of his appointment by affirming that his role on the committee aims to contribute to the advancement of sports in the country.
Named as a member of the manifesto committee for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Gyan assumes the position of chair for the youth and sports sub-committee.
His responsibility involves leveraging his expertise to devise strategies for sports development and the empowerment of Ghanaian youth.
Addressing criticisms during the inauguration of the committee on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Gyan acknowledged the scrutiny he has faced.
However, he remains undeterred by the backlash, viewing the appointment as an opportunity to apply his two decades of experience as a footballer, boxing promoter, and sports event organiser.
“They have their own opinions,” Gyan said at the inauguration of the NPP’s campaign team for the 2024 general elections at the Alisa Hotel when quizzed about the thoughts of his critics.
“I have been there before. I have been to Stadia and been booed in front of 80,000 people; I am used to it.
“At the end of the day, the work shows. Sometimes, you go to the enemy’s territory and you come out with applause. I have confidence in myself, and I know what I can do to help. I am here to help because of my 20 years of experience. I can’t just sit at home and keep it. I have to share it with the new generation to benefit from it.
“At the end of the day, when everything is said and done, we see what we did or what we couldn’t do. The criticism will come. It is also good for me personally and for my team to push harder,” he added.
Comprising 316 members, the manifesto committee is tasked with the crucial responsibility of crafting the document that will serve as the cornerstone forDr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign.
Minority Leader of Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has strongly voiced his discontent with President Akufo-Addo‘s leadership, accusing the administration of failing the Ghanaian populace.
The criticism came in the wake of the President’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), where Forson expressed deep concern over the escalating economic hardships facing the nation.
Forson, in his post-SONA remarks, highlighted several key issues contributing to the country’s economic downturn.
The high unemployment rate and the worsening exchange rate of Ghana’s currency were among the pressing concerns he brought to attention.
According to Forson, these challenges underscore the administration’s inability to address crucial economic matters affecting citizens.
Adding weight to his critique, Forson emphasized that President Akufo-Addo, who is serving his last term in office, will not be missed.
He further expressed skepticism about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s potential bid for the presidency in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Forson went on record asserting, “Voting for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is like voting for Akufo-Addo’s third term in office.”
The Minority Leader argued that supporting Bawumia’s candidacy would essentially be an endorsement of the current administration’s policies and practices.
This statement suggests Forson’s belief that a Bawumia’s presidency would not bring about the change or improvements the country needs.
As political tensions rise in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, Forson’s remarks have added a new dimension to the discourse surrounding the Akufo-Addo administration’s performance.
The opposition leader’s criticisms and cautionary words about the potential continuation of the current leadership through Bawumia’s candidacy are expected to spark further debate and analysis in the coming weeks.
However, the rising numbers are now raising questions about the effectiveness of the scheme, particularly in delivering quality healthcare services.
Complaints have emerged regarding NHIS subscribers purchasing medications that should be covered under the scheme.
Reports of underfunding have forced healthcare facilities to charge additional fees, burdening patients who rely on the scheme for financial support.
Beyond the statistics, the true impact of these issues is felt on the ground.
Outside hospital gates in the Ashanti region, a distressed crowd gathers, not just as concerned visitors, but as patients and family members grappling with mounting medical bills.
Gifty Boakye, whose mother is unwell, expressed frustration, describing the NHIS as ‘stale.’
She lamented the current state of the health insurance scheme, emphasizing that quality healthcare is increasingly inaccessible for those without sufficient funds.
“The health insurance scheme has become stale. Now if you don’t have enough money, you won’t receive quality health care. Why should we suffer like this?” she quizzed.
Reports from various health facilities in the Ashanti region reveal long delays in treatment due to the absence of health insurance cards.
Essential medications are reportedly unavailable due to insufficient coverage, compelling subscribers to purchase drugs that they anticipated would be included in the NHIS.
Subscribers also highlighted instances of undisclosed fees for services supposedly covered by the scheme.
“This small illness. Look at the number of drugs they have prescribed for me. The health insurance is not working. Why will we be buying all sorts of drugs if it’s working?” a subscriber said.
“They took 20 cedis before giving me a bed in the ward here in Kumasi South Hospital and this was without receipt. I don’t even know what the scheme covered,” said another subscriber.
A lack of transparency and clarity regarding coverage has left many questioning the functionality of the NHIS.
As voices of discontent grow, individuals like Kwame Dawu shared his experiences of paying unofficial fees to secure hospital beds and purchasing expensive drugs out of pocket.
“I brought my mother but we have paid a bribe of 100 cedis before getting a bed and I could see people in wheelchairs receiving treatment in their chairs. The health insurance is not working here. I have bought all sorts of drugs for about 2,000 cedis.”
For many, the struggling health insurance scheme is not merely an administrative obstacle but a stark representation of systemic issues within the healthcare system, disproportionately affecting the less privileged.
Among the dissatisfied subscribers is Samuel Tei Wayo, who points out the unnecessary waiting period for the health insurance to take effect, leading to financial strain and delays in receiving essential medical care.
“The ones I have been given for free are not expensive, but the expensive ones are the ones we have to buy. The waiting period for health insurance to take effect is long and unnecessary.”
As the NHIS faces criticism on multiple fronts, the surge in registrations appears to be overshadowed by the pressing need for reforms to address the reported shortcomings and ensure that the healthcare system meets the needs of all citizens.
Ghanaian internet sensation Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has once again captured attention with her recent appearance on ‘Love Brewed,’ where she and her husband were guests on AJ Sarpong’s show.
Inspired by Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon success, Afua revealed that she decided to turn her hobbies into a meaningful project to showcase Ghana.
During the interview, Afua shared, “I play music and twerk at home when I’m bored. My girls (daughters) understand the job, so they often join in the fun.”
Bored at home after completing her shows and other projects, she decided to embark on a Guinness World Record (GWR) sing-a-thon after witnessing Hilda’s accomplishment.
Initially considering a challenge for the fastest female 100-m runner in heels, Afua reconsidered due to potential dangers.
Instead, she chose the singing marathon, citing singing as her beloved hobby and mentioning the late Ebony as one of her favorite singers.
Afua Asantewaa attempted a five-day singing marathon that began at midnight on Sunday, December 24, 2023, to surpass the former record of 105 hours set by an Indian artiste Sunil Waghmare in 2012.
She ended at 7:00am on Friday, December 29, 2023.
Her event attracted a lot of celebrities and public figures including the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Alan Kyeremanten, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Adina, Sista Afia, Wendy Shay, among others.
Afua’s attempt has not yet received a response from GWR.
Old wedding photos of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia have emerged on social media.
The photos of the duo united in marital bliss have resurfaced, capturing intimate moments from their early years together and providing a nostalgic glimpse into the beginnings of their love story, were shared by Samira Bawumia in commemoration of Val’s day.
“Happy 20th wedding anniversary, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Thanking God for our journey so far. Happy Valentine’s Day, my love,” she said.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia are commemorating twenty (20) years of marriage, today, February 14, 2024, which also marks Val’s day.
In a heartfelt message marking the significant milestone of love and companionship between the two, Samira Bawumia took to social media to extend warm wishes to her husband.
Their anniversary coincides with Valentine’s Day, a day synonymous with love and affection.
Expressing gratitude and reflecting on the journey they’ve shared thus far, Mrs Bawumia penned a touching tribute to her husband, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. “Happy 20th wedding anniversary, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Thanking God for our journey so far. Happy Valentine’s Day, my love,” she wrote, encapsulating two decades of cherished memories, unwavering support, and enduring love.
Gyamfi emphasised that, unlike Dr. Bawumia, former President Mahama demonstrated a willingness to accept responsibility for his actions during his tenure.
Sammy Gyamfi criticised Vice President Bawumia, asserting that he lacked credibility in comparison to Mahama.
“John Dramani Mahama has served as a running mate to the late Professor Mills and as a vice president before. Did you ever hear John Mahama dismiss his roles or claim to be just a mere mate to Professor Mills? Anytime there was a problem, he took blame as he was meant to. So, please don’t lump us together with Mahama and NPP; we can’t be part of such hypocrisy,” Gyamfi stated.
Dr. Bawumia, the Vice President, appeals to Ghanaians to support his bid for power in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.
He emphasised that, if granted the opportunity, he intends to lead the nation independently, free from the directives of President Akufo-Addo.
“As Vice-President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities,” he said at a lecture on Wednesday.

Did you ever hear John Mahama say that he was a mere mate to the late John Mills, so whatever mess that happened during his tenue should be attributed to him alone?
Sammy Gyamfi, criticizing the NPP’s inconsistent evidence on job creation, emphasized the current all-time high unemployment rate among the country’s youth.
He urged Ghanaians not to trust Vice President Bawumia’s words, questioning the credibility of the claims.
“Where did you create 2.1 million jobs Bawumia? Today the unemployment has increased from 8.4 in 2016 to almost 14 percent according to the Ghana statistical service, an all time high as we speak,” Sammy Gyamfi stated.
The flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP),Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has asserted that the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government has created more jobs than any previous administration.
Speaking at the UPSA auditorium on Tuesday in Accra, Vice President Bawumia said the government generated 2.1 million jobs between 2017 and 2022, despite the challenges posed by the global economic crisis.
He explained that this feat includes the recruitment of 100,000 additional health workers, 100,000 more teachers, and a significant increase in fire service personnel.
Bawumia stated: “What is probably the most remarkable development in terms of the economy is that our government has created 2.1 million jobs between 2017 and 2022 notwithstanding the global economic crisis. The public sector recruited 1.2 million people while the private sector created 975,000 jobs (per SSNIT data) . We recruited 100,000 more health workers, 100,000 more teachers, more than doubled the fire service personnel, etc. Our government has quite clearly created more jobs in a seven year period than any government. This is truly remarkable under the circumstances even though we still have to create more jobs”.

Highlife sensation Akwaboah has recently revealed in an interview with Accra FM that he deliberately refrained from participating in the 2020 general elections, where President Akufo-Addo secured a second term.
The artist expressed his disappointment with political candidates, asserting that they often fail to fulfil their promises once in office and tend to misuse government funds.
Akwaboah, adamant in his decision not to vote in the upcoming general elections, dismissed recent promises made by NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during a Wednesday lecture.
The artist emphasized that such assurances are merely political campaign tactics, a sentiment echoed in the creative arts sector.
He highlighted the recurring nature of promises from political figures, asserting that these declarations are intended to garner attention without genuine commitment.
During an appearance on Accra FM’s midmorning show, Akwaboah expressed concern that lofty promises often sway less educated voters.
He criticised the tendency of Ghanaians to prioritise the “English proficiency” and charisma of leaders over critically assessing the feasibility of their assurances.
He noted that this inclination often leads to voting along kinship, ethnic, and tribal lines.
Akwaboah clarified that he remains sceptical about Dr. Bawumia’s promises, indicating, “I won’t say I believe [Dr. Bawumia] or not, but we’re just hoping that he will fulfil his promises.”
When asked about his participation in the upcoming December 7 elections, the singer categorically responded with a “no,” disclosing that he also abstained from voting in the 2020 general elections.
As the campaign season intensifies, both flag bearers from the dominant political parties have embarked on nationwide campaigns, vying for the presidency in the upcoming elections.
Ghanaian Hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese, has taken issue with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s recent analogy likening his role in the government to that of a “driver’s mate.”
Dr. Bawumia made this comparison during his inaugural speech as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), outlining his vision for Ghana at the UPSA auditorium in Accra on February 7, 2024.
“As Vice-President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities,” Bawumia stated.
Challenging the analogy, Kwaw Kese, whose real name is Emmanuel Kofi Botwe, expressed his concerns in a post on X on February 9.
In his statement, Kwaw Kese called attention to Dr. Bawumia’s significant positions, including Vice President and head of the Economic Management Team, within the ruling party NPP.
As a native of Agona Swedru, Kwaw Kese called on the Vice President to justify his performance in the government and clarify whether the shortcomings should be attributed to his leadership.
“You’re the vice president of Ghana, Head of the Economic Management Team, And a full member of the ruling party NPP. As a local Ghana man from Agona SWEDRU, can you convince me if the failure of this government is not your failure?” he questioned.

Boako, who also serves as the economic adviser to the vice president, expressed his indifference to the status of Bawumia’s national service.
During a national address on February 7, 2024, Bawumia outlined his vision for the presidency, proposing to make the National Service optional for graduates seeking immediate employment post-tertiary education.
He argued that adjustments to the current national service scheme are necessary to better meet the demands of the job market for graduates.
However, this proposal has sparked widespread controversy, with critics raising concerns about the potential for increased corruption.
Vincent Kuagbenu, a former Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), accused Dr. Bawumia of advocating for the optional nature of the NSS due to his alleged failure to complete his mandatory national service.
In response, Gideon Boako defended Bawumia, stating that skipping national service is not a crime. In an interview on Citi News on February 9, 2024, he stated, “Whether he did National Service or not, I don’t know, and I’m not interested in knowing that.”
“It is not everybody in this country who did National Service. In fact, today, it is not everybody who does National Service,” citinewsroom.com quoted him.
Boako further explained that certain circumstances allow for the waiver of national service, adding, “There are people who don’t do National Service but under certain circumstances, it is waived for them.
“It is not a crime to say you haven’t done National Service. If the authorities consider the precedent and the prevailing conditions and they think they have to waive it for you, it happens,” he added.
The National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has strongly criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of deflecting responsibility for the economic challenges facing the nation.
Gyamfi contends that both President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia are collectively responsible for the economic turmoil attributed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During a morning show discussion on Metro TV, Gyamfi asserted, “The primus inter pares in this government is Nana Addo, his words and responsibilities to people… Akufo-Addo times without number has told us when it comes to the economy, the man in charge is Bawumia.”
He challenged the Vice President’s attempt to downplay his role and shift blame, emphasizing that Bawumia is acting like an opposition leader within his own government.
Gyamfi accused Bawumia of pretending to be detached from the government’s economic mismanagement while highlighting the Vice President’s acknowledgment of the administration’s failures.
He remarked, “Vice President Bawumia knows that the government that he is now a part of, which he is pretending not to be a part of, he is pretending now to be an opposition leader in his own government.”
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia clarified his role as the chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT), asserting that he lacked the authority to make decisions.
Addressing the nation on Wednesday, January 7, 2024, during his presentation as the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the EMT, as a sub-committee to Cabinet, did not possess decision-making powers.
“I am grateful to have been appointed as Chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT). However, we do not wield any decision-making authority as a sub-committee to Cabinet,” he remarked.
Dr. Bawumia underscored that his role primarily involved offering advice to the President’s Cabinet, expressing pride in the quality of counsel provided over the years.

The Member of Parliament for the Bekwai constituency in the Ashanti Region under the New Patriotic Party, Joe Osei-Owusu, has asserted that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would consistently outshine the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer for the 2024 election, John Dramani Mahama, in any direct comparison.
The NDC has consistently targeted the Vice President, criticizing him for the economic challenges in Ghana, alleging that he presented himself as an economic savior during his time in opposition and directed numerous jabs at the NDC and its leader.
The NDC specifically highlighted the escalating public debt, struggles of the Ghanaian cedi against major international currencies, and high inflation as indicators of the Vice President’s perceived incompetence.
They argued that his harsh criticism of similar issues during his opposition days has exposed his inadequacy.
In his role as the head of the government’s economic management team, the Vice President has not been exempt from blame for the failures of the NPP government.
However, speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, November 13, the First Deputy Speaker expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia stands a brighter chance against the former President.
“Let’s not create the impression that the current government hasn’t done anything positive. I don’t subscribe to that. There have been shortcomings and difficulties on different fronts, it’s a fact, and that’s a reality that we face. And he [Bawumia] as a Vice President, would have to carry some of that.”
Responding to the host’s query about Dr. Bawumia’s chances in the 2024 polls, he stated, “Very bright.”
He emphasized that although some people may vote based on party and its symbol, an evaluation considering their independent roles in the past would favor Dr. Bawumia when placed against Mahama.
The assessment would consider their past actions, ideas, implementation efforts, and their quality of person and integrity.
In a recent interview on Joy, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong downplayed attempts to attribute the challenges of the incumbent NPP administration largely to the Vice President and now flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr Agyapong suggested that comparing Bawumia, who has not been a President, to John Mahama, who has served as both Vice President and President, would not be fair.
He stressed that the Vice President does not bear ultimate responsibility, and there have been areas where the government can be proud and others that need improvement.
Mr Agyapong emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s ability to implement a transformative vision would be the key differentiator.
A member of the communication team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chris Doughan has strongly criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, dismissing his promises and asserting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer has lost credibility.
Bawumia, who now leads the NPP, has vowed to bring about significant changes if elected in 2025, including a reduction in the number of ministers and a commitment to combat corruption.
However, Doughan contends that Bawumia’s recent pledges are merely a ploy to manipulate public opinion.
Doughan accused Bawumia of consistently making false promises to Ghanaians, asserting that the Vice President’s track record does not inspire trust.
He argued that despite Bawumia’s claims of economic prowess, the country has faced hardship under the Akufo-Addo government, particularly with rising living costs and escalating electricity prices.
Calling on Ghanaians to be cautious, Doughan urged voters to reject Bawumia’s new assurances and focus on supporting the NDC’s flag bearer, former president John Mahama.
Doughan praised Mahama for his honesty in the previous term and emphasised the need to elect a leader who can navigate the country away from what he described as the challenges posed by the current NPP leadership.
Speaking on Inside Politics on TV XYZ, Doughan declared, “John Mahama did a lot for Ghana with little resources unlike Bawumia and his Boss, Akufo-Addo. We the members of the NDC will jealously support John Mahama to win power and save this country from the ditch the NPP leadership has put us.”
A senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana–Legon, Dr. Asah Asante, has advised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to reconsider his proposal to abolish the National Service Scheme.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, addressing ministers, NPP leadership, and party supporters at UPSA in Accra, revealed his intention to make the National Service Scheme non-mandatory under his presidency, allowing students the choice to opt-out.
Expressing his dissent on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban, the senior political science lecturer contested the Vice President’s stance on the National Service Scheme.
“I disagree with him. The National Service, if you look at it carefully, is one of the areas that have come to support this government.
The government is running away simply because they have not been able to pay them and pay a realistic amount of money to them,” Dr. Asante asserted.
He highlighted the significant role the National Service Personnel Scheme plays in supporting rural areas facing human resource challenges.
Dr. Asante emphasized the potential for improvement rather than outright removal, stating, “I thought that we could have really improved it and made sure that they receive their allowances on time and then you direct them to another area.”
Dr. Asante urged the Vice President to reconsider and propose an alternative, emphasizing that discarding the National Service would result in a significant deficit in societal functioning.
“You go to certain rural areas you will realize their support. National Service plays a key role so why are you taking it away? I thought that we could have really improved it and made sure that they receive their allowances on time and then you direct them to another area”.
“I think that the Vice President must relook at that and come up with something else. Throwing National Service away no, it is going to be a big deficit in our way of life,” Dr. Asante stated.
Ningo Prampram’s Member of Parliament, Sam Nartey George, has strongly criticized Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent lecture titled “Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future.”
Describing the speech as “73 pages of beautiful nonsense,” Sam George expressed dissatisfaction with the content presented by Dr. Bawumia, accusing him of recycling old promises and falsehoods, particularly pointing out inconsistencies in job creation figures.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Nimatu Yakubu Atouyese, Sam George remarked, “It’s 73 pages of beautiful nonsense, there is nothing that makes sense in that speech. It is a rehashing of old promises, lies.”
He highlighted discrepancies in Bawumia‘s claims about job creation, citing conflicting figures provided over time and challenging the vice president’s credibility.
Referring to Bawumia’s suggestion that Ghanaians should make him a driver, Sam George criticized the attempt to distance himself from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s governance, asserting that Bawumia cannot detach himself from Akufo-Addo’s perceived governance challenges.
“Bawumia cannot detach himself from Akufo-Addo’s bad governance and implementation of policies,” he asserted.
“Two people who are cabinet members at the time came to tell us Bawumia played a pivotal role in the creation of E-Levy, yet Bawumia stands up here today and say he wants to scrap E-Levy,” he stated, stressing that what he sees is inconsistency in Bawumia’s statements.
“Even if you look at the budget. the appendixes, you realise that the government says in 2024 they are going to pay 826,000 people, so it tells you that Bawumia is lying and this is unbecoming of someone who wants to be president,” Sam George remarked.
Citing Bawumia’s biography where he claimed to chair the Economic Management Team, Sam George pointed out what he saw as inconsistency in Bawumia’s statements, particularly regarding the creation of the E-Levy, which he alleged Bawumia played a pivotal role in developing.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech, delivered on February 7, 2024, outlined his vision for Ghana and highlighted the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government over the past seven years.
The lecture, covering various economic sectors, sparked significant discussions on social media platforms.
Regarding Dr. Bawumia’s suggestion that Ghanaians should make him a driver as he is currently a driver’s mate, Sam George criticized Bawumia’s attempt to distance himself from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s governance.
Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan praised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s vision, describing it as credible and offering purposeful solutions to current economic challenges.
Duncan advocates for giving the Vice President the opportunity to implement his proposed policies, emphasising the significance of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s selfless leadership and bold solutions for the future.
“The whole country stands still over Vice President Bawumia’s address. He has articulated a vision centred on selfless leadership and bold solutions for the future. Can others say the same for themselves?” Duncan remarked.
Among the policies outlined by the Vice President, if granted the opportunity, are the cancellation of the e-levy, removal of the VAT on electricity, and the elimination of the emissions tax.
Managing Editor of Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr. has condemned Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s recent comments comparing his role to a driver’s mate in the New Patriotic administration.
Pratt accused Bawumia of evading responsibility for the current economic challenges and constructing a false narrative to distance himself from the government’s failures.
During a discussion on Peace FM, Pratt expressed his dismay, stating, “Bawumia is not owning up to his truth; he is running away from the economic mess they created. Why assume to be a trotro mate if you were part of the same government. So if the driver messes up don’t align me to his mistakes that’s what he is claiming, that he has his own path.”
He criticised Bawumia’s analogy of being a trotro mate and asserts that it is an attempt to deflect blame from the administration’s mismanagement.
Pratt further exposed what he believes to be a calculated strategy, claiming that Bawumia’s comments are a ploy to craft a falsehood about a new direction if elected into power.
The renowned journalist challenges the Vice President’s sincerity, suggesting that the analogy is a deceptive manoeuvre to reshape his image and agenda.
The critique comes in response to Vice President Bawumia’s compelling address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, where he outlined his vision for Ghana’s future in the 2024 general elections.
Bawumia had drawn parallels between his current role as Vice-President and that of a driver’s mate, emphasising a transformative vision if he assumes the presidency.
“As Vice-President I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driversseat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities. So, what do I want to do in terms of vision, priorities and policies if you give me the opportunity, by the Grace of God, to become President of the Republic of Ghana?”
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chosen candidate for the 2024 presidential race, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged a comprehensive tax amnesty for both citizens and businesses as part of a broader plan to revamp the country’s tax system.
The proposed changes aim to enhance tax revenue by expanding the tax base and introducing a more straightforward, transparent, and accountable approach.
During a recent address outlining his vision for the nation, the Vice President, set to lead the NPP in the upcoming election, criticised the existing tax structure, citing its failure since independence.
He emphasised the need for a new regime that is easy to comprehend, comply with, and enforce, minimising discretion and reducing corruption.
To incentivize those outside the current tax net, the candidate plans to implement a citizen and business-friendly digitised flat tax system.
“The current tax regime has been with us since independence and it has failed us. Many people do not pay taxes (including property taxes). Too much discretion results in corruption. We want a regime that is easy to understand, easy to comply with and easy to enforce and that is not subject to so much discretion,” the Vice President said on February 6, during an address about his objective for the country in his quest to become President.
Dr. Bawumia, the Vice President, expressed confidence that these reforms, coupled with appropriate exemption thresholds to protect the economically vulnerable, will encourage compliance and help recover an estimated $24 billion in uncollected taxes.
As a pivotal step towards the digitalization of tax processes, the Vice President pledged to eradicate manual or paper filing by 2025.
“To start the new tax system on a clean slate, my government will provide a tax amnesty (i.e. a complete exemption from the payment of taxes for a specified period and the waiving of interest and penalties) up to a certain year to individuals and businesses for failures to file taxes in previous years so that everyone will start afresh.”
Additionally, to provide a fresh start, a tax amnesty will be granted for a specified period, offering complete exemption from tax payments along with the waiving of interest and penalties for individuals and businesses that failed to file taxes in previous years.
The proposed reforms align with the Vice President’s commitment to fostering transparency and accountability in the country’s financial landscape.
The Vice President outlined his visions for the nation, particularly if elected president in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Among the notable proposals presented by Dr. Bawumia were the cancellation of the controversial e-levy, the abolition of Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity, the elimination of emission tax, and the introduction of zipline technology to enhance the healthcare sector.
However, Sam George did not mince words in his response to the Vice President’s address.
He labelled the entire presentation as a “total falsehood” and devoid of merits.
George went further to express his scepticism about the vision presented by Bawumia, suggesting that it was either a product of clear confusion or a deliberate attempt to mislead the Ghanaian people.
Taking to Twitter, Sam George posted his reactions, stating, “Same Script. Same Writer. Same Plot. Different Ink. Bawumia is either clearly confused or deliberately misleading the Ghanaian people. This is not a new chapter. It is simply Act 1, Scene 2 of the horror movie we have been living since 2017. We would respond appropriately!”
The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency accused the Vice President of presenting a different chapter but with the same claims and falsehoods.
The exchange highlights the growing political tensions as the 2024 elections draw nearer, with both sides expressing divergent views on the future direction of the country.
Same Script. Same Writer. Same Plot. Different Ink.
Bawumia is either clearly confused or deliberately misleading the Ghanaian people.
This is not a new chapter. It is simply Act 1, Scene 2 of the horror movie we have been living since 2017.
Titled ‘Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future,’ Dr. Bawumia expressed his commitment to providing tax incentives for film producers and musicians.
During his address, he announced, “Tax incentives will also be provided for film producers and musicians. We will introduce other initiatives such as digital and streaming platforms for our artists to make tourism and the creative arts a growth pole in Ghana.”
The Vice President further emphasised his dedication to enhancing events like the Year of Return, Beyond the Return, and the December in Ghana festivities.
To boost tourism and job creation, Dr. Bawumia proposed the implementation of an e-visa policy for international visitors to Ghana, ensuring visas could be obtained in minutes, contingent on security and criminal checks.
Notably, he addressed some of the NPP’s outstanding promises, including the establishment of the Creative Arts Fund to support artists and the construction of theatres in Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale.
Vice PresidentDr. Mahamudu Bawumia delved into the intricate narrative of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) economic journey, asserting their triumph over challenges inherited from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Highlighting the NPP administration’s efforts, Dr. Bawumia emphasised their successful steering of the economy back to stability, only to face an unforeseen disruption with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite their initial strides, the global health crisis brought about an abrupt standstill to economic activities, imposing an unparalleled strain on nations worldwide.
The Vice President candidly revealed that, despite persistent oversight, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war cannot be ignored as significant contributors to the recent economic downturn.
Drawing parallels to the historic economic upheaval of the 1930s, he underscored that numerous countries experienced negative GDP growth due to these global events.
“We may be tired of hearing it but there is no denying of the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war resulted in the greatest economic depression in the world since the 1930’s with most countries recording negative GDP growth,” Dr. Bawumia stated during an address at the University of Professional Studies Auditorium(UPSA) in Accra.
In a forthcoming interview on TV3, Kyerematen asserted, “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is exhausted. There is nothing new he can do, and that is a fact,” emphasizing concerns about Bawumia’s perceived lack of fresh ideas to rejuvenate the struggling economy.
Having departed from the New Patriotic Party in September 2023 to establish the Movement for Change, Kyerematen cautioned Ghanaians against placing trust in Vice President Bawumia’s assurances.
He argued that Bawumia lacks the capability to instigate significant economic changes and challenged the distinction between the roles of Vice Presidency and Presidency, referring to them as a “combined ticket.”
Questioning Bawumia’s claim of independence and vision after winning the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race on November 4, 2023, Kyerematen contended that if Bawumia couldn’t propose transformative ideas during nearly eight years in government, his potential presidency would likely yield the same outcome for Ghana’s economic prospects.
Alan Kyerematen asserts that he is the right individual to be given the mandate because he has fresh ideas to be introduced that will change the economy for the better.
Flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is set to share his vision for the upcoming 2024 general elections in a national address scheduled for February 7 in Accra.
The event, titled ‘Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future,’ will take place at the Kofi-Ohene Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in the Greater Accra Region.
Dr. Bawumia’s address is anticipated to underscore the importance of leveraging technology, data, and systems to foster inclusive economic growth.
His goal is to position Ghana as a digital hub for Africa, bridging the digital divide and applying digital technology and artificial intelligence to revolutionise sectors such as healthcare, education, and public service delivery.
Expressing commitment to elevating Ghana to the next level, Dr. Bawumia envisions a nation that supports local businesses, addresses the needs of the less fortunate, and fuels economic growth through industrial development.
In a statement to party members upon securing the flag bearer position, Dr. Bawumia reflected on his 22 years of dedication to the NPP and Ghana, citing his extensive experience from the Kufuor era as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana to the opposition years and now in government.
He emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the party and government, pointing to his track record of performance as vice president.
Respected religious leader Reverend Dr. Opuni Frimpong has issued a strong warning to Ghana’s powerful political figures, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama, urging them to desist from any acts that could incite violence as the nation gets closer to the impending elections.
Delivering his message at Peace FM, Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong stressed the imperative of maintaining a peaceful political atmosphere, urging both leaders to prioritise the well-being and safety of the Ghanaian populace.
The religious leader emphasised the unnecessary nature of violence in achieving leadership recognition, stating, “If you are a good leader, the whole world will know; you need not soil your hands in any form of violence.”
He further cautioned against disregarding the lives lost in elections, highlighting the responsibility of political leaders to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Pointing to Ghana’s history of peaceful elections, Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong urged political figures to uphold and protect this legacy.
He called for the prosecution of anyone who breaks the law instead of mere lip service, emphasising the accountability of leaders for the lives lost in the pursuit of power.
Addressing political parties and their supporters, the religious leader advocated for restraint and peaceful dialogue, emphasizing that the nation’s progress and stability hinge on a united front.
Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong’s message gains significance amidst rising political tensions in the lead-up to elections.
Ghanaians, political analysts, and civil society groups have welcomed his appeal for peace, expressing hope that it will resonate with all stakeholders and contribute to a peaceful electoral process.
As the nation keenly observes, the call for responsible and peaceful political engagement reinforces the paramount importance of a united and stable Ghana.

During his visit, Dr. Bawumia aims to delve into discussions and collaborations with key institutions and individuals specialising in digital transformation, e-governance, and e-taxation.

This visit follows their recent achievement of successfully completing the Guinness World Record Attempt for the longest individual cooking marathon.
Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak and her team have etched their names in culinary history, showcasing not only their culinary skills but also their endurance and commitment to breaking boundaries.
During the meeting at the Jubilee House, Vice President Dr. Bawumia praised the chef’s outstanding attempt, commending her and the team for bringing honour to the nation.
The gathering provided a platform to celebrate their success and acknowledge the hard work and dedication that went into attempting the Guinness World Record.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak humbly thanked everyone for the support received throughout the journey.
The team, filled with pride, shared insights into the challenges and triumphs experienced during the cooking marathon.
Impressed by their culinary prowess, Vice President Dr. Bawumia encouraged Chef Failatu and her team to continue pushing boundaries and serve as an inspiration to aspiring chefs across the nation.
The visit to the Jubilee House not only recognized Faila’s Guinness World Record Attempt but also celebrated the talent and determination that Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak and her team bring to the culinary landscape of Ghana.
The former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bonfeh, popularly known as Kabila, has publicly challenged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to reveal his vision for Ghana’s future, ahead of the 2024 general elections.
In an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show, Kabila said it was important for Dr. Bawumia to articulate his vision and priorities to the Ghanaian people, as the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said Dr. Bawumia had promised to disclose his vision after securing the flagbearer ship position, but had failed to do so, even though more than two months had elapsed since his victory.
“Dr. Bawumia, after attaining the flagbearer ship position, you promised to disclose your vision for the country. Vision doesn’t require much. Today is January 17, and between November 4 and January 17 is too long a time not to have stated that vision,” he said.
He urged Dr. Bawumia to be transparent and accountable to the electorate, and not to take them for granted.
He also questioned Dr. Bawumia’s economic credentials, saying he had not delivered on his promises to transform the economy and improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
Kabila said the NPP government had mismanaged the economy, increased the debt burden, and failed to tackle corruption and unemployment.
James Kwabena Bonfeh said the CPP was ready to offer a credible alternative to the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which he accused of being two sides of the same coin.
He said the CPP had a vision of social justice, economic independence, and national sovereignty, inspired by the legacy of its founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He called on Ghanaians to rally behind the CPP and its flagbearer, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, in the 2024 elections.
Dr. Bawumia is yet to respond to Kabila’s challenge.
Dr. Bawumia, an economist and former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, emerged as the NPP flagbearer after a keenly contested primary on November 4, 2023.
He defeated four other candidates, including former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, with 61.43 percent of the valid votes cast.
He is expected to face former President John Mahama, who is seeking a comeback on the ticket of the NDC, and other candidates from smaller parties and independent platforms, in the 2024 presidential race.
The general elections will be held in Ghana on December 7, 2024, to elect the president and members of parliament.
Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo’s term-limited and thus ineligible to run again.
There appears to be a growing inclination within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the selection of a running mate from the Ashanti Region, described as the party’s “bread basket,” according to former Speaker of Parliament and NPP Council of Elders member, Prof Aaron Michael Oquaye.
In an exclusive interview with 3News’ Beatrice Adu, Prof Oquaye disclosed that there is a positive reception to the idea of choosing a candidate from the Ashanti Region.
He emphasized the perceived importance of regional balance, particularly from the Ashanti Region, suggesting that it would be reasonable and sensible for the running mate to hail from there.
“It appears that there is a feeling generally that if we had a candidate from the Ashanti Region,…the bread basket of the party, it will be reasonable and sensible to balance the ticket. Therefore, it is important to factor that into the equation….,” he suggested.
While the NPP’s constitution does not explicitly mandate regional balance in the selection of running mates, the party has traditionally considered regional representation.
Historical examples include Albert Adu Boahen choosing a running mate from the north (Roland Issifu Alhassan), former President John Kufour selecting Aliu Mahama, and the current President Nana Akufo Addo opting for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Referring to Clause six(b) of Chapter six (6) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, Prof Oquaye highlighted the importance of achieving reasonable regional and gender balance in public offices.
Additionally, Prof Oquaye advised that the potential vice-presidential candidate should not vie for the president’s position, emphasizing the need for harmony and no clash of personalities with the president-elect.
Member of Parliament representing the Akim Abuakwa South constituency, Samuel Atta Akyea, argues that solely attributing the country’s economic challenges to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would be unfair.
Atta Akyea highlighted the substantial constraints faced by Dr. Bawumia in his capacity as Vice President, emphasizing that he lacked the authority to independently implement his ideas for addressing economic difficulties.
During an appearance on Citi TV on Tuesday, January 16, the former Works and Housing Minister asserted that the ultimate decision-making authority on government policies rested with the President, not Dr. Bawumia.
Atta Akyea defended Dr. Bawumia as an esteemed individual with the resilience to effectively serve the nation. He expressed confidence that, if elected president on December 7, Dr. Bawumia would be able to implement his ideas for the betterment of the Ghanaian people.
“This is the first time Ghana is going to have a president who is an economist, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. If the problem of Ghana now and people are talking about its seriousness, I agree to a reasonable extent that the economy is not in its best form. When you have a toothache, do you give it to a carpenter or a dentist? Ghana will be in a safer pair of hands when we bring Dr. Bawumia.”
“Ghana is going to get a man with shock absorbers, the finest gentleman, to help us solve a major problem facing us, the economy. He was in a very serious adversary role, which is what people don’t want to see. It’s cruel and vile propaganda for everybody to say that let’s place all the economic woes of Akufo-Addo on Dr. Bawumia. It’s unkind,” he said.
Ghana has been experiencing a persistent economic recession, which prompted the government to request a bailout from the International Monetary Fund.
As the leader of the Economic Management Team, Dr. Bawumia has come under fire for the country’s financial difficulties.
However, Mr. Atta Akyea argues that it is wrong and ought to stop to place the blame on Dr. Bawumia.
Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak popularly known as Chef Faila, a native of Tamale in the Northern region, narrates her encounter with business mogul Ibrahim Mahama.
Chef Faila, in an old interview that has now gone viral narrates her humble beginning and how renowned Ghanaian businessman and brother of former President John Dramani Mahama; Ibrahim Mahama, changed her life.
She asserted financially she was in a bad place.
In an interview granted to Prince Hamdan, she described Ibrahim Mahama as down-to-earth, a business man willing to extend a helping hand.
“The first time I met Ibrahim Mahama, I was just an ordinary girl. I took my Hijab and walked. I am telling you Hamdan if you saw me at that time you will not believe me. I went to the residence of Ibrahim Mahama, the security was so heavy, he was just coming from his residence.
I was shocked when Ibrahim Mahama gave me a bag containing huge sums of money on our first encounter,” Chef Faila stated.
In Ghana, Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has gained a great deal of popularity and is the talk of the town thanks to her extraordinary quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by one individual (the “cook-a-thon”).
She cooked for 227 hours lasting 10 days and serving over 200 food to orphans and vulnerable people.
Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has gone beyond the Ugandan chef Dorcus Mirembe, popularly known as Mama D Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon with a cooking time of 144 hours and 20 minutes.
Chef Faila’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual started on January 1, 2024, and ended on January 10, 2024, at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale in the Northern region.
Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak cooked Ghanaian local dishes among others.
Hundred of residents from Tamale and its environs trooped to the Modern City hotel in Tamale to witness the record breaking by Chef Faila amidst drumming and dancing.
The last day of the cooking marathon was graced by high-powered delegations from the Overlord of Dagbon Ndan Ya Naa, politicians, and Army Chiefs among others.
The Management of Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has however revealed that there will be an after-party to celebrate her and also thank Ghanaians for their massive support which encouraged her to end successfully.
In the aftermath of the special delegates conference of the NPP, culminating in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia securing victory as the flagbearer of the ruling party through a final election, Kwabena Agyepong and the vice president found themselves as political ‘rivals.’
Given the context of both individuals vying for the leadership of the New Patriotic Party, their status as political adversaries during this period was a natural outcome.
However, since the conclusion of the special delegates conference and the subsequent election, the dynamics between them have reverted to a default setting.
A circulating video on social media captures the two gentlemen, prominent members of the NPP, disembarking from a Ghana Airforce plane.
The context of this footage reveals that both were in Kumasi to participate in the 57th graduation ceremony at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The video serves as a visual testament to the shifting dynamics in political landscapes, where individuals who once contested against each other can, after such events, seamlessly collaborate on shared endeavors such as attending a significant educational ceremony.
“Incoming President of Ghana H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong have arrived in Kumasi for the 57th Graduation ceremony of KNUST,” the X user captioned the video.

In a strategic political move, the Vice President and recently elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, orchestrated a surprise visit to Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent politician who emerged as the runner-up in the party’s presidential election last Saturday.
The impromptu meeting, which took place over dinner on Wednesday evening, aimed at rekindling the camaraderie between the two influential figures and fostering collaboration for the benefit of the nation as the 2024 elections approach.
While Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong had previously enjoyed a positive relationship, their dynamic changed when they found themselves on opposing sides during the recent presidential race within the NPP.
Dr. Bawumia intends to extend similar visits to other aspirants and opinion leaders within the NPP as part of efforts to mend relationships and build bridges ahead of the 2024 elections.
The unexpected visit to his closest rival in the NPP presidential race showcased Dr. Bawumia’s strong commitment to unity within the party and the broader political landscape.
During the informal meeting, both politicians engaged in a friendly discussion, highlighting their shared goals and commitment to working together for the national interest and the NPP’s bid to retain power by ‘breaking the 8’.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia and MP Ken Agyapong expressed mutual respect and appreciation for each other’s contributions to the party and the country. They stressed the importance of maintaining a robust alliance within the NPP, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
Discussions centered around strategies to promote unity within the party, bolster grassroots support, and address key challenges facing the nation. The two pledged to collaborate closely on initiatives for economic growth, social welfare, and good governance.
Both leaders underscored the significance of prioritizing national interests over personal ambitions and partisan politics, committing to set aside differences and work together for Ghana’s prosperity and development.
The surprise meeting garnered attention from party members, political analysts, and the public, with many applauding it as a positive step toward consolidating the NPP’s position and fostering unity.
Observers recognized the potential of the renewed bonds between Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong to enhance the NPP’s appeal to voters and improve its electoral prospects.
The Vice President’s unexpected visit to Ken Agyapong serves as evidence of the importance of building strong alliances and collaborative efforts for the greater good.
As the NPP faces upcoming challenges, the unity displayed during this meeting is expected to resonate positively among party members and supporters, contributing to the advancement of Ghana’s democratic credentials.
Former National Democratic Congress Chairman for the Central Region, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has anticipated victory for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.
Allotey Jacobs, while sharing his confidence in Bawumia’s prospects in the NPP election, underscored that if the vice president secured a specific percentage of votes in the party’s primary, he could potentially secure the presidency in 2024.
“If Bawumia gets about 72 to 73%, by my calculation Dr Mahamudu Bawmumia can win the elections with 52.6% and with 142 MPs only if the national officers of the party can effectively manage their upcoming parliamentary elections,” he projected.
On Saturday, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia clinched the NPP flagbearer position in a closely contested election, featuring nearly 200,000 delegates who had to choose between four candidates.
Dr. Bawumia secured an impressive 61.47% of the total votes, surpassing his rivals Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, thereby earning the nomination as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
The newly elected leader of the New Patriotic Party and the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made it clear that he has his own distinct vision and will pursue an agenda for Ghana’s progress and prosperity.
He envisions Ghana as a beacon among nations, taking its rightful place on the global stage. Dr. Bawumia stressed that he would bring his unique ideas and strategies to advance the nation if he becomes President in the 2024 polls.
During his victory speech on Saturday, November 4, at the Accra Sports Stadium, he called on everyone to support him in the pursuit of continued progress for the party and the nation.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I have my own vision and my own priorities. Given the opportunity by you and the people of Ghana to lead, I shall govern as my own man with guidance from God almighty.”
“My vision is to build an inclusive food self-sufficient, data-driven and systems-based nation that will fully participate in the global digital revolution to resolve our problems and also usher in a golden age of benefits from our national resources,” he said.

The President said Dr Bawumia’s victory is a reward for his hard work to the party over the years.
President Akufo-Addo
Handing over the leadership the of party to Dr Bawumia at the Accra Sports Stadium, President Akufo-Addo said he is confident he can inflict a third successive defeat on the National Democratic Congress’ John Mahama at the polls.
President Akufo-Addo also said that the Vice President can unite the party with the support of all the contestants to ensure the NPP remains in power.
“Sixteen years of work in opposition and in government has been rewarded by the party with this leadership that has been confirmed upon him, and I am confident Dr Bawumia will be able to unite this party with the assistance of Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Afriyie Akoto and Addai-Nimoh, and all the other contestants and provide us the strong leadership to take on the NDC in 2024 and inflict a third successive defeat on John Dramani Mahama,” he said.

Kennedy Agyapong
Dr. Bawumia’s victory in the presidential primary was anticipated from the beginning, although he fell short of the 80% target set by his campaign team.
Many Members of Parliament and Ministers expressed their support for Dr. Bawumia, a popular figure within the NPP.
This historic win makes Dr. Bawumia the first non-Akan to lead the NPP in a general election, breaking the trend since 2008 where he served as the running mate to President Akufo-Addo.
The 2024 election is expected to be highly competitive, with both Bawumia and Mahama being strong candidates, each with their strengths and weaknesses.
The election’s outcome will depend on various factors, including the state of the economy, the candidates’ campaigns, and voter turnout.
Dr. Bawumia, in his victory speech on November 4 at the Accra Sports Stadium, called on everyone to unite in pursuit of continued progress for the party and the nation.
The Institute of Research Innovation & Development at Kumasi Technical University has conducted a poll suggesting that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the frontrunner in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race.
According to the poll, Dr. Bawumia is likely to secure an overwhelming victory in eight regions, increasing his chances of success in the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, November 4.
The race is expected to be closely contested, with Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong considered one of Dr. Bawumia’s top contenders. Many researchers have also tipped Dr. Bawumia as the leading candidate in the race.
The Institute of Research Innovation & Development at Kumasi Technical University engaged 15,595 NPP delegates in its poll to assess the upcoming flagbearer race. The research considered key components such as who is the most unifying, who exhibits the most visible leadership qualities, and who is most likely to break the “8” (an expression related to the NPP’s eight-year term in government). Non-policy factors like religion and ethnicity were also taken into account.
According to the poll, 71.1% of respondents believe that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has a higher chance of breaking the “8,” while 26.8% favored Kennedy Agyapong. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai Nimo received 1.8% and 0.3% support, respectively.
In terms of being the most unifying, 69.9% of respondents described Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most unifying candidate, while 19.4% considered Kennedy Agyapong to be the most unifying. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto had 8.5% support in this category, while Francis Addai Nimo received 2.2%.
Regarding the aspirant with the most visible leadership qualities, the poll found that 70.5% of the delegates considered Dr. Bawumia to have the most visible leadership qualities, while 19.4% mentioned Mr. Kennedy Agyapong. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Addai Nimo received 8.1% and 2.0% support, respectively in this category.
When asked about the influence of religion or ethnicity on their voting decisions, 13.4% of the delegates said they would consider religion, while 86.4% stated that they would not. In terms of ethnicity, 13.8% of the delegates said they would strongly consider it, while 86.2% indicated that they would not take one’s ethnic background into account when voting.
Additionally, 97.1% of the delegates noted that they would consider the past record of each aspirant before casting their votes, while 2.9% stated that they would not factor in the candidates’ past records.
According to Prof. Smart Sarpong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is significantly ahead in eight regions, with an average support of 81.9%. These regions are North East, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Ashanti, Bono, Eastern, and Volta.
The poll suggests that the election will be competitive in five regions, as none of the aspirants currently has a decisive lead. However, the dynamics could change based on the efforts the aspirants put in during the final days leading up to the election.
“It is 50/50 for any aspirant who works extra harder. Those 5 regions include the Western region, Savannah region, BonoEast region, the party headquarters, and Western North.”
The research also showed that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong could have a clear lead in four other regions if he works harder, as he is leading with an average of 49.6%.
“The following regions have the potential of going for Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong. They are likely going to go for him. It doesn’t mean he should go to sleep on them. He should try and consolidate whatever gains he has in these four regions. So, Hon. Ken and the team, Oti region, Greater Accra region, Central region, and Ahafo region.”
Reacting to the latest poll, the spokesperson of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team in the Ashanti region, William Kusi, insists that despite the research stating that their candidate is not strong enough in the Ashanti region, their own poll states otherwise.
“Our candidate, for instance, has combed the whole country, and we as a campaign team have also done a lot of work, especially in the Ashanti region. We have heard of the sponsored polls that have come out and are giving Dr. Bawumia the lead, but we disagree because on the ground, we are far ahead.
For instance, our internal polls suggest that we are going to have 75-80 percent support in the Ashanti region. So, when I heard of the polls from the one who always fails, Ben Ephson, for instance, I was like, what is happening? Smart Sarpong at the regional level did so well with his polls. It was accurate, but he is getting it wrong this time,” he said.
Former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has disclosed that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has personally approached him and requested that he refrain from his criticisms ofNew Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.
Opare-Ansah, who has recently been vocal in his critiques of Kennedy Agyapong, shared that this request for a ceasefire came directly from the vice president himself.
“Dr is not even happy when anyone in his team takes on another person in such a manner.
After that, he sent me a message that ‘Opare, cease fire’ because he doesn’t want that to be his style in this campaign,” he stated on the Monday, October 30, 2023, edition of Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show.
During a recent interview on Wontumi FM, Opare-Ansah unleashed a tirade against Kennedy Agyapong, levelling accusations of bitterness against him.
Opare-Ansah contended that the decision of the Member of Parliament for Assin Central to vie for the NPP’s flagbearer position was driven by bitterness.
He claimed that this bitterness stemmed from Dr. Bawumia declining Kennedy Agyapong’s request for annual contracts worth US$500 million in exchange for his support.
On November 4, 2023, the NPP is set to choose its flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Some 310 polling station executives from the New Patriotic Party in the Assin Central Constituency have publicly endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their preferred candidate in the upcoming presidential primary scheduled for November 4, 2023.
In a press conference held on October 5, 2023, these executives expressed their unwavering support for Vice President Bawumia, citing him as the sole competent and credible candidate capable of securing victory in the 2024 presidential election.
The group’s convener, Mr. J.Y., who serves as the polling station organiser at Adweso Mepeasem, highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s exceptional track record, policies, and vision as the driving factors behind their endorsement. They are resolute in their commitment to cast their votes for him on November 4 and remain steadfast in their decision.
Mr. J.Y. emphasized that no external influences could sway their support away from Dr. Bawumia. He also expressed disappointment in their Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, who is also contesting in the primaries, claiming that the constituency’s party members have not benefited from his leadership.
Furthermore, he lamented that individuals outside the party were enjoying the constituency’s benefits instead of those who tirelessly work to uphold the New Patriotic Party’s reputation and integrity.
Meanwhile, he has complained bitterly about intimidation by some other candidates against those who have declared their support for Dr. Bawunia.
“We are being intimidated and threatened because we have declared our support for Bawumia,” he explained. We are 310 people, but only the right ones are at today’s press conference.
The declaration of support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by these polling station executives in the Assin Central Constituency has not come without its challenges, as they have faced threats and intimidation due to their endorsement. Despite these challenges, they remain resolute in their decision to back Dr. Bawumia and have called on others who may be intimidated to join them.
They expressed their disappointment in not receiving any form of appointment, including ministerial and board positions, despite their long-standing dedication and service to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Chairman Ralph, the Wurakese polling station chairman, and fellow delegates have echoed their unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia. They firmly believe that he possesses the competence, credibility, and dedication required to lead the NPP and break the eight-year jinx, asserting that no other candidate can persuade them to change their minds.
The campaign team of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has temporarily suspended its campaign operations.
This strategic decision has been made to facilitate the Vice President’s visit to specific locations where the Limited Voter Registration Exercise is currently in progress.
In a press release signed by Spokesperson Dr. Gideon Boako, it was clarified that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will utilize this campaign hiatus to pay visits to designated registration centers operated by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).
“Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will use the campaign break to visit selected E.C. Registration centres and encourage all party faithful to focus on mobilizing eligible persons to register for their voter’s ID card,” the release stated.
Additionally, he urged party members to actively participate in the registration exercise.
“The campaign entreats all party members to take note and work hard to achieve each constituency’s registration target.”
Prior to the temporary suspension of the campaign activities, Dr. Bawumia had been actively involved in interacting with constituents residing in the Western North Region.
During his visit to the region, he conducted a thorough examination of the voter registration process taking place within the Enchi district, closely monitoring the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, all 268 district offices of the commission nationwide opened for the Limited Voters’ Registration Exercise, which allowed eligible Ghanaians who had reached the age of 18 or older to register to vote.
This was done as part of the EC’s planning for the 2024 general elections.
The registration process is scheduled to end on Monday, October 2, 2023, and will be open to Ghanaians who have turned 18 since the last registration in 2020, as well as those who are older but were unable to register during the 2020 registration process for a variety of reasons.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received the unequivocal support of Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Mavis Hawa Koomson as the ideal candidate to halt the country’s protracted 8-year cycle of power alternation.
Bawumia is the only person qualified to describe the achievements of the administration and explain why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) merits re-election in 2024, according to Hawa Koomson.
“Dr. Bawumia is the very one who can break the ‘8.’
“He has worked with President Akufo-Addo for the past eight years. He knows where we started from and where we are now. So he has a story to tell.Apart from Dr. Bawumia, nobody can tell the story of the government, and that is why we are all supporting him.”
Addressing the perception that Bawumia lacks decision-making authority in the government, Hawa Koomson countered, noting that while he serves as Vice President, he is not a mere rubber stamp and can exercise independent decision-making when in charge.
She clarified that, “If you say he’s part of the government, yes, but he’s only a vice, he’s supporting the president. He has no say. When the president is not there, Dr. Bawumia cannot chair cabinet meetings or sign any documents unless the president asks him to do it on his behalf. So when he’s in charge, he can make decisions on his own,” citinewsroom.com quoted the Minister.
Hawa Koomson confidently predicted that Bawumia would secure a resounding victory in the NPP’s presidential primaries scheduled for November, citing his immense popularity, experience, and grassroots support as the key factors in his favor.
The NPP is set to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 elections on November 4. Apart from Dr. Bawumia, the other three contenders in the race include Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central MP;Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former Minister for Agriculture; and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
