The 47-year-old took over as head coach of the Black Stars in February, succeeding Milovan Rajevac, who was fired following the nation’s dismal showing in the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Otto Addo, who also serves as Borussia Dortmund’s talent coach led Ghana to secure qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but the team suffered an early elimination from the tournament.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, the Hearts of Oak board member said he doubted the competence of the 47-year-old Borussia Dortmund scout and raised the alarm when he was appointed, but his advice fell on deaf ears.
‘When the committee came up with Chris Hughton, Otto Addo and the rest, I said Otto was not really a coach and if he was a coach at all, he didn’t have enough experience.
”So I suggested that in the interim we should go for Prosper Narteh Ogum, then later bring in Chris Hughton because Otto Addo could not handle the Black Stars, but people thought I was joking. You see the ending now?” he quizzed.
Otto Addo has left his role as the head coach of the Black Stars after the team’s poor performance but Dr Tamakloe has advised the football chiefs to appoint Chris Hughton for the vacant position.
Hughton was the technical advisor to the team during the tenure of Otto Addo and Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that the former Tottenham Hotspur manager is the only one with the credentials to catapult the team to a desirable level following Otto Addo’s exit.
”I think Chris Hughton will be the right person because of his background. He has the African background; second, he is a coach with experience and also has had the opportunity to know these boys,” he noted.
”If Chris Hughton is given the job, then he should come and stay in Ghana and form his local Black Stars to ensure that the nucleus of the team should come from them. He should be able to create and also train strikers for the Black Stars,” he stated.
Ghana recorded one win and two defeats at the Mundial and finished at the bottom of Group H.
The governance architecture of democracies throughout history has recognised the separation of powers for the sole objective of checks on each arm of government. It is for this reason that the framers of Ghana’s 4th Republican Constitution created the Executive, Parliament and Judiciary.
Among these three arms, no one can doubt the pivotal role of Parliament as the most important body in a constitutional democracy where the rule of law is the most important ingredient in the growth and development of the governance system we have given to ourselves as a people after decades of political instability with attendant deterioration in all facets of society.
The unique role of Parliament is underscored by many provisions in the 1992 Constitution. It is Parliament alone that has the sole authority, among other powers to do the following:
a) enact laws;
b) approve all appointments of ministers and judges;
c) approve government’s budget;
d) approve loans, bonds, taxes and exemptions.
Recent happenings and a sober reflection on the performance of Parliamentarians are a matter of grave concern. Unbridled partisanship coupled with a lack of collective responsibility is undermining and ruining the role of the august body in our governance system. As elected representatives of the people, it appears our MPs are at a loss and insensitive to the mood of the nation. The excruciating hardships and state of despondency do not ring alarm bells.
May we ask our MPs a few key questions. Who approved all the loans and bonds so far taken by this govt? Who approved the reappointment of Ken Ofori-Atta in 2021 when it was obvious then that he had ruined the economy with his failed policies?
It is shocking to note that in the midst of the crisis facing this country, where the leadership of the country is at a loss on what to do, our MPs have also failed to come to the rescue by failing to do their work as overseers of the executive. The poor attendance by our elected representatives to debate the 2023 budget and carry on with related statutory functions is a matter of sad commentary.
It is so nauseating and irresponsible that MPs who are also double ministers of state chose to travel to Qatar to watch football matches and without a sense of shame sent images of their presence at matches as supporters. It is worthy of special note that the President of Ecuador politely declined FIFA’s invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the ongoing world cup, which featured the match between Qatar and Ecuador; his reason for declining the invitation was simple and responsible – due to pressing national issues in Ecuador.
Our MPs must be reminded that Parliament is the only governance institution that suffers when there is political upheaval as our recent past has shown. The survival and success of the 4th Republic depend on Parliament. The present crop of MPs does not have the mandate of the people to destroy their hopes and aspirations. MPs who cannot cope with this commitment do not have a place in this important institution and must not offer themselves for re-election. Pure and sim Pure and simple. Ghana needs serious and responsible leaders in all segments of governance.
Founding Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has expressed disappointment over the decision by some ministers and members of the majority caucus in parliament to travel to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup pending the budget debate.
According to the NPP stalwart, the absence of the MPs in parliament for the 2023 budget debate who left for Qatar is nauseating considering the current state of affairs in the country.

WITHER GHANA’S PARLIAMENT??
1) Governance architecture of democracies thoughout history has recognised separation of powers for the sole objective of checks on each arm of government. It is for this reason that framers of Ghana’s 4th Republican Constitution created the Executive, Parliament and the Judiciary.
2) Among these three arms, no one can doubt the pivotal role of Parliament as the most important body in a constitutional democracy where the rule of law is the most important ingredient in the growth and development of the governance system we have given to ourselves as a people after decades of political instability with attendant deterioration in all facets of society.

Statesman and Politician, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has stated that the Akufo-Addo-led government has failed in executing its mandate since it assumed office.
According to him, he will not rate the administration anything above two out of ten, as it hasn’t made efforts to turn the country’s economic crisis around.
“I will rate them two out of 10, we have retrogressed…when I say we are a failed state, I know what I am talking about. This government is not functioning…That surprises me because I know Nana Addo was not like that. What has happened? I am surprised. The Nana Akufo-Addo that I know is not the one ruling Ghana now,” he said.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, November 16, he said gone were the days he held the government in high esteem because it seemed to be performing its duties efficiently, and thus, he assumed the current administration was the best to make Ghana a better place.
“I was asked this question sometime ago, and I say that having been able to handle this country for at least four years at that time now we are in the 6th year I will give them four out of 10 at that time. Now I will go lower, I will give them 2 out of 10. In fact, we are a failed state, this nation is now a failed nation, people do what they like,” he added.
The founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) further added that he is amazed at how the government is showing less concern in terms of caring for citizens as it promised to before coming to power.
Recently, prices for products and services have skyrocketed, and as a result of the rise in fuel prices, the cost of transportation has swelled up by more than four times.
Currently, the nation’s inflation rate is 40.4%, the highest ever.
Meanwhile, there have been numerous calls for the immediate removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, following this development.
They argue that his removal will help restore confidence in Ghana’s economy, that has been saddled with debt and high inflation.
Commenting on this, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe said President Akufo-Addo being reluctant to terminate Mr Ofori-Atta’s contract raises concerns as that is long overdue.
Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is a Ghanaian statesman and politician. He was the president of the Ghana Football Association from 2001 to 2005 and Ghana’s ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro from 2005 to 2009. He is a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A statesman and politician, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has expressed discontentment about the procedure that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas uses in airing his documentaries.
His comment comes after Anas Aremeyaw Anas aired his documentary ‘Galamsey Economy,’ which featured the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen.
Mr. Adu Boahen is said to have told the undercover investigators that Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia needed $200,000 as an ‘appearance fee’ before meeting with supposed investors.
The Minister was also reported to have said that the Vice President would demand some contracts from an investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
According to the stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he does not believe Anas Aremeyaw Anas is actually practicing investigative journalism.
“I have made it clear that I personally don’t believe Anas. I don’t believe he is an investigative journalist. An investigative journalist does his works in such a way that all the points that he got are so important to him that no one never hears about it”, he said.
Speaking to JoyNews in an exclusive interview with host Benjamin Akakpo, Mr Nyaho-Tamakloe asserted that the first most important thing that Anas should do is to release his documentary to the public.
However, Mr Nyaho-Tamakloe said Anas Aremeyaw Anas, after working on this documentary, then gives it out to the government first before airing it to the public.
“The first thing he should do is to release it to the public, in the public hall or something.
“But here we have a situation where this particular investigative journalist, when he comes out with something, makes sure it’s seen by the leaders of the country before it gets to the public.
The statesman indicated that the last investigative documentary of Anas featured the President and his vice but nothing has been done about it.
“His last investigative work, the names of the President and the Vice President came in. What has happened? We should stop the sort of thinking that the people of this country are fools”, he added.
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a suspended elder of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo he has known over the years will not continue to mismanage Ghana as he is now doing.
The government received a score of two out of ten from the retired military veteran and ambassador, suggesting that it is not operating under the direction of his friend.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe responded, “I will rate them two out of 10,” when asked to rate the performance of the current administration.
“We have retrogressed…when I say we are a failed state, I know what I am talking about. This government is not functioning…That surprises me because I know Nana Addo was not like that.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe noted that Ken Ofori-Atta, the embattled Minister of Finance should have resigned immediately the country decided to seek a bailout from the IMF.
He stressed that if things were going well, the Minister of Agric, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, “who is a doctor of agriculture will not be engaging in cheap publicity”.
There has been an increase in the prices of goods and services recently whiles transportation fares have also increased more than four times due to the increase in fuel prices.
A suspended elder of the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has indicated that he does not believe the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo he has known over the years will be mismanaging Ghana like he is currently doing.
The retired military man and ambassador also scored the government two out of 10, indicating that the government under the leadership of his friend is not functioning.
He told Joy News in an interview that the country’s economy has slumped yet the government has failed to rise to the occasion.
When asked to rate the performance of the current government, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said, “I will rate them two out of 10.”
“We have retrogressed…when I say we are a failed state, I know what I am talking about. This government is not functioning…That surprises me because I know Nana Addo was not like that.

Ghana’s current inflation rate stands at an unprecedented 40.4%.
Ghanaian statesman, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is disappointed in the way President Akufo-Addo has managed the country’s affairs.
According to the politician, the personalities surrounding the president have not done much in pushing the country in the right direction.
For him, the downturn the country is currently experiencing is a testament to the fact that the President’s disciples have contributed little in nudging the President toward national development.
“These are people who are afraid to tell him exactly what is happening. This has happened to a lot of Presidents in this country. If Nana Addo will listen, I’m sure the way he is going right now he will never go there,” he added.
Speaking to JoyNews, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe insisted that his advisors and helpers have failed to tell him the true situation.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe says that if the President were abreast of all the issues, persons accused of corruption under his watch should have been axed by now.
“People have been accused of several things, there have been infractions all over since Akufo-Addo came to power, what has been done to them?” he asked.
“I know Nana Addo was not like that, so what has happened? I’m surprised. The Nana Addo that I knew is not the one that is ruling Ghana now,” he told JoyNews‘ Benjamin Akakpo.
So far he believes the country has retrogressed under the Akufo-Addo administration adding that the President and his cohorts are to blame.
He listed a number of people who could have coerced the President in the right direction if govern the chance.
They conclude; “Charles Brobby, myself, Kwesi Pratt. There are people who will tell him exactly what is happening.”
A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has criticized President Akufo-Addo for failing to mention the menace of corruption and illegal small-scale mining in his address to Ghanaians on the hardship in the country.
In an XYZ TV interview monitored by GhanaWeb, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said that the country was losing a lot of money because of illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and the president failing to mention it is telling.
He added that corruption, which the president also failed to mention, is the main cause of the hardship Ghanaians are currently facing.
“One thing that was surprising is that the president didn’t talk about galamsey when he was addressing the nation. He should have taken the opportunity to touch on the sensitive areas that have run the economy down.
“Because just as the Asantehene was saying the last time, the gold that comes out of our soil appears to be smuggled out. Our water bodies and forests are just being destroyed for nothing.
“He also failed to touch on corruption which shocked me. Because I can tell you that 70 percent of the problems we have now are because of corruption. And if that is put right, this country will have no problem. There is corruption from top to bottom; that was what I was expecting the president to address,” he said.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during his address on Sunday, admitted that times are hard economically and that his government is working assiduously to provide relief to the citizenry.
He stressed in an address on the economy that his administration was ready to work towards restoring and resetting the economy on the path of progress and stability.
These views were contained in his October 30, 2022, address to the nation on the state of the economy.
“For us, in Ghana, our reality is that our economy is in great difficulty. The budget drawn for the 2022 fiscal year has been thrown out of gear, disrupting our balance of payments and debt sustainability, and further exposing the structural weaknesses of our economy.
“We are in a crisis; I do not exaggerate when I say so. I cannot find an example in history when so many malevolent forces have come together at the same time,” he added.
“But, as we have shown in other circumstances, we shall turn this crisis into an opportunity to resolve not just the short-term, urgent problems but the long-term structural problems that have bedevilled our economy.
“I urge us all to see the decision to go to the International Monetary Fund in this light,” he stressed.
Ghanaian statesman and politician Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has alleged that President Akufo-Addo refused to meet two top retired generals, General Brigadier Joseph Nunoo-Mensah and General Napoleon Ashley-Lassen, over a pressing security issue.
According to him, the generals, who have both served the nation as Chief of Defence Staff, wanted to inform the president of a potential security threat to Ghana, but Akufo-Addo did not give them an audience, which is a shame.
“Believe it or not, two retired generals… General Brigadier Nunoo-Mensah and General Ashley Lassen, have both been chief of staff before in this country. They watched carefully about a couple of months ago, and they realised security was at its lowest end.
“They wanted to see the president; the president refused to see them… This happened this year. They (the retired generals) have the experience, and they wanted to see you the president. Where on this planet will any president refuse to see such top people?
“If I’m telling lies, he should come out and say it. The generals know that things were going bad, and they wanted to whisper in his ears or tell him what to do so that there will be calm in this country,” he said.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), previously alleged that, but for the intervention of the NPP MPs, Ghana was on the verge of experiencing a military coup.
According to him, the call for the dismissal of the finance minister wiped away the plot.
He advised the president to learn from this development as the actions of the NPP MPs are unprecedented.
“Those who made this intervention have saved the 4th republic. We were getting close to military intervention, but the MPs’ actions yesterday totally wiped it off, and I think the country should learn from that as well. Akufo-Addo, as I know, will definitely make attempts to change their minds; if they instead allow that, then they will be [the] most hated people in this country or on the political landscape,” he said in an interview with TV3’s Big Issue show.
Speaking on Joy News’ NewsFile programme monitored by GhanaWeb on Saturday (October 10), Dr. Tamakole warned that if a state of emergency is not declared soon, ‘galamsey’ will lead to the collapse of Ghana.
“Where we have reached with this thing, I believe it is time a decision is taken. And if a decision is not taken, this poor country called Ghana will faint. Because at the moment, the country is bleeding profusely.
“I will say if we really want to solve this problem, the state in which we are now is a state that we need what we call a declaration of a state of emergency, immediately. This must be put on military footing, and I can assure you, this will completely end this crisis,” he said.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo currently seems not to know what he is doing.
“It appears the president, at the moment, does not know exactly where he is going. It is so sad. I say it is so sad because I have backed him all my lifetime in politics, so I don’t see why he can’t take such an easy decision. The president I know who could say no and his no was his no, now cannot take decisions,” he noted.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refuted suggestions that his government is not committed to the fight against illegal small-scale mining (‘galamsey’).
According to Akufo-Addo, his government has been committed to the fight against the menace since his first day in office and its determination to curb it even cost his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), some votes in the 2020 General Elections.
The president, who made these remarks at a meeting with the National House of Chiefs and some Municipal Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in Kumasi, intimated that the votes he and his party lost showed that he really put his presidency on the line to fight ‘galamsey’.
“Since I took office on January 7th, 2017, nearly six years ago, I have made it a central feature of my presidency to lead in the fight to rid our country of this menace, which we all now call galamsey. Indeed, it was an important aspect of my inaugural address that day. It has not been easy; it has not been popular and we have not gotten the immediate results that I was looking for.
“Indeed, in the last election of 2020, my stance on the issue cost my party and I significant losses in the mining communities. It turned out that my statement that I was putting my presidency on the line in the fight against galamsey was neither bumbazed nor reckless. It was the simple truth,” he said.
Former Ghana Football Association President Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe appears to support Asamoah Gyan‘s desire to be part of the Black Stars squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Gyan, 36, stated in a recent interview that he has not retired and is planning a sensational return to the Black Stars after being sidelined since 2019. The former Sunderland striker revealed his desire to go to Qatar, but admitted he must be in peak physical condition to be considered.
Gyan, who hasn’t played competitive football in 15 months and has been without a club since October of last year, has begun training in the hopes of being fit enough to be considered by Black Stars coach Otto Addo.
”Asamoah Gyan has made an incredible mark in Ghana football. He is a good footballer and if he has the stamina, why not?†the Hearts of Oak board member said as quoted by Graphic Sports.
The majority of those who have responded to Gyan’s interview are against him, but Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe believes those who condemn Gyan because of his age should consider what Cameroon legend Roger Milla did for his country at the 1994 World Cup at the age of 38, as well as England’s Stanley Matthews during the 1950s.
“Roger Milla opted to play in the World Cup at an old age and did well. We can also talk about Stanley Matthews of England who was a figure in the team and was known as the tactical magician.
“He was later invited to Ghana by Ken Harrison, who was then General Manager of Hearts of Oak in the 1950s,” he recalled.
“If he can train with the present team and the coach finds him fit, he should be invited because I strongly believe if he can match the tempo at training and the physique, he should be able to play.
“I think Gyan has the skill because when he is running with the ball, defenders fear to come near him. He has the skills and tactics but the strength to play is the problem. If he can work on that, he will be a fantastic addition to the World Cup,†he added.
According to the former Ghana Football Association Chairman, the level of indiscipline going on in the Accra Hearts of Oak team under Samuel Boadu’s nose is worrying.
He stated that despite the power given to head coach Samuel Boadu to make decisions, he has still not been able to stamp his authority on his team to stop the indiscipline.
“I have handled Hearts of Oak for over 50 years and I can smell and see indiscipline. I have repeatedly talked to the coach even publicly at Board meetings that he is the overall boss of the club.”
“But there has been a lot of incidents such is breaking of camp and players going to drink and smoke before they come when they have a match the following day. Some players drink and Smoke before games,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said on Accra-based Asempa FM.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe in the last couple of weeks has publicly criticized head coach Samuel Boadu despite the success of the former Medeama gaffer on the pitch.
He claims Samuel Boadu is not the best man to lead them in their upcoming 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
“Unfortunately, we have some players of Hearts of Oak going to drink and smoke before games”
Managing Director of Nyaho Medical Centre, Dr Elikem Tamaklo, has tested positive to coronavirus.
The doctor tested positive June 4 and has been isolated.
His family has been quarantined in line with coronavirus protocols spelt out by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
The managing director has said, he was “doing wellâ€.
Reaching out to his staff in a video, Dr. Tamaklo condemned the stigmatisation of COVID-19 patients.
“The stigma that some have had to endure is unfair, unfounded and has no basis. Through no fault of their own, they have been exposed to an invisible threat, a virus, and now have to keep focused on their journey to recovery, for themselves, their families and their wider community,†he advised.
He cautioned the public to desist from flouting any of the COVID-19 protocols.
The Nyaho medical centre said Dr Elikem had been working from home, conducting virtual meetings with staff, since March 23.
The center believes their medical director could not have picked the virus from the health facility. It believes he was infected through community spread.
The hospital said Dr Tamaklo “was not physically present on the hospital premises, and thus, we can confirm that the exposure was from the communityâ€.
Spokesperson for the health centre, Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, explained that the “positive diagnosis has affected his family, but we are happy to say that they are all wellâ€.
In view of the development, Dr Tamaklo will be taking a leave as Dr. Victoria Lokko, the Medical Director takes charge of the affairs of the clinic.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana, Nyaho Medical Centre rolled out a programme to test members of the public for the virus.
Airport branch was liaising the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) to carry out the test.
However, in the wake of the latest development, the testing services have been suspended until June 9.
The clinic is therefore not taking any samples until after the stipulated time.
Citi FM sports broadcaster Fentuo Tahiru sparked a debate on Twitter on who is supreme between Charles Taylor and Bernard Don Bortey.
The topic generated huge interest and debate among followers of the Ghanaian football from the late 90s and to the mid-2000s.
Both Taylor and Bortey were adored by Hearts of Oak and Kotoko fans and they continue to divide opinions even today years after their lights dimmed.
Bortey started his international career at the youth level dazzling at the U17 World Cup in 1999 in New Zealand, going ahead to score 9 senior goals in 27 appearances while Taylor played at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games for Ghana and has 16 appearances and two goals to his name.
The 50 sports journalists who were drawn from radio, television, newspaper and online casted their votes on Saturday and Sunday and massively voted for Charles Taylor.
Taylor polled 31 votes representing 62% while Bortey garnered 19 votes which represented 38%.
Top journalists including Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Patrick Akoto, Eugene Adu Poku, Collins Atta Poku, Andy Kerm, UK-based Rahman Osman, Fentuo Tahiru, Sheikh Toufiq Seinu, Muftawu Nabila, Edmund Okai Gyimah, Seidu Adamu, Atta Twum, Alhaji Yahaya, Joe Debrah, Stevenson Manu among others all casted their votes.
