    Manhole in Kasoa drowns a two-year-old boy

    A two-year-old boy, Lawoe Sejafa has drowned in a manhole at Kasoa Asempa Down in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

    The boy was said to be playing with his friends on Friday evening when he accidentally fell into the hole and died.

    The manhole was reportedly created by a pastor who failed to cover it. Reports say despite several complaints to have the manhole covered, nothing has been done about it.

    The nine months old pregnant mother of the deceased callapsed after Police officers and NADMO personnel retrieved the lifeless body from the manhole.

    She was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

    The lifeless body of the little boy has been deposited at St Gregory Hospital the New Market Police station has commenced investigation.

  • Man reportedly returns home a week after ‘drowning’

    A young man believed to have drowned in the sea at Goi in the West Ada District of the Greater Accra Region has reunited with family a week after the alleged incident.

    42-year-old Livingston Amornortey Sebi, on February 14, 2020 got missing when he went swimming after attending a funeral but never returned.

    Three days of search for his corpse along the Eastern coast of the region proved futile as only his clothes were found at the beach confirming his drowning.

    Seven days later, on Sunday 21 February 2021 at around 1am, the young man who owns a hotel at Ashaiman was found at the beach with white cloth around his waist and a knife hanging on him.

    The troubled-looking man claims that he was led by two old men from unknown destination who clothed him with the white cloth but deserted him upon reaching the community beach.

    Information has it that he requested to see three relatives for a reason best known to him but the elders declined.

    He has since been taken to his residence at Ashaiman on an unstable mind, while community priests continue to perform rites to stabilise him, and also to unravel the reason behind his mysterious disappearance and subsequent return.

    While some residents say the incident was a well orchestrated plan, others believe the young man had suffered punishment from deities he worships.

  • Body of a juvenile with missing parts found in Kuano River

    A body of a juvenile about 10 years old, has been found in the Kuano River at Asiam, a suburb of Dokrokyiwaa near Coaltar in the Eastern Region.

    According to Mr Francis Gomado, Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Eastern Regional Police Command who disclosed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the body of the female juvenile was found with the throat slashed, the genitals removed, the intestines gashing out of the body and the face disfigured.

    He said the body was found by the Coaltar Police after receiving a distress call from Asiam.

    The body, yet to be identified, was found dressed in a red skirt with a sports shorts lying in a prone position in the shallow part of the river.

    Mr Gomado said, the body has been deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy, while efforts are being made to trace the relatives and arrest the culprits.

  • 1-year-old boy drowns in a well

    A one-and-a-half-year-old boy who was playing with his siblings at Atasamanso, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, has drowned in a well.

    The mother of the victim, Serwaa Abrafi, said her child was rescued after half-an-hour of the incident and rushed to the Atasamanso hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival by medics.

    The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the victim accidentally slipped and fell into the partially covered well when he attempted to mount it.

    The body of the deceased was later taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

  • Four Indian men drown in Italian farm manure tank near Pavia

    Four Sikh men from Punjab have drowned in a slurry tank on a dairy farm near Pavia in northern Italy.

    Investigators suspect that the four were overcome by carbon dioxide fumes from the cow manure. They believe that three died after jumping in to rescue a worker who had been emptying the tank.

    Two owned the farm and two were employees. All were Indian citizens. The two brothers Prem and Tarsem Singh registered their farm in 2017.

    It is about 45km (28 miles) from Milan.

    Italian media report that the Singhs’ farm at Arena Po, producing milk and veal cattle, is one of the biggest in the Pavia region.

    The victims were named as: Prem and Tarsem Singh, aged 48 and 45 respectively, Arminder Singh (29) and Majinder Singh (28).

    The manure was being collected for use as fertiliser on the farm’s fields.

    The victims’ wives raised the alarm when the men failed to turn up for lunch on Thursday. They rushed to the scene and spotted one body in the sewage.

    The wives then called in firefighters, who donned masks and emptied the tank to recover all the bodies.

    Italy’s public broadcaster Rai says the Arena Po tragedy brings to 486 the total of deaths in work accidents in Italy this year – the highest toll since 2016.

    The new agriculture minister, Teresa Bellanova, tweeted condolences and said “safety at work is an inalienable right and we must make every effort to ensure it is respected”. She was a farm labourer herself as a teenager.
