  • ‘Black Adam’ tops Box Office again after grossing $27.7 million

Despite Halloween being a slow time at the movies, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam still had a decent second weekend at the domestic box office.

Deadline reports that Johnson’s new superhero flick brought in $27.7 million this past Friday to Sunday, a 59 percent decline from its opening weekend. In total, the film has grossed $111.1 million domestically and is now Johnson’s 18th movie to make over $100 million in the U.S.

Black Adam has also pulled in $250 million at the international box office.

While Johnson has seen his biggest box office debut with Black Adam, the movie’s reception has been mixed, with the film rating just 40% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, Black Adam was a meaningful project for Johnson, who has been a fan of DC Comics since he was a kid. “I grew up a Superman [fan], and DC! But when I saw my first Black Adam comic, he was badass, he was cool,” Johnson told Complex earlier this month.

“He had brown skin, so I identified with him. And I thought, ‘I want to be that guy!’ So that’s why I’ve been pushing for this movie for so long, for so many years.”

Johnson added, “Hopefully, with Black Adam, little Black and little Brown boys, little boys of color and little girls of color, all kids, will look at Black Adam and the [Justice Society of America] and the cast and the color and the diversity that we have in our cast and crew, and go, ‘I can be that!’”

  • Dwayne Johnson explains video of him holding baby who crowd surfed

A viral video showing a baby crowd surfing to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson during the Black Adam press tour has sparked confusion online.

“People do cry and they hand me things,” the actor wrote on Instagram alongside the clip, while reflecting on the “electric, fun and emotional” tour in support of Black Adam. “I was NOT surprised to be handed this beautiful little baby. … Her father caught my attention because he had tears in his eyes when he held her up high and gestured for me to hold her. I honestly thought he was holding a toy doll he wanted tme to have as a gift.”

In the clip, Johnson can be seen with a huge smile on his face. “This beautiful, seren, present and trusting angel is Luciana,” he added. “One day, I bet she’ll inspire all those around her. And whatever this moment meant for her emotional father – means it meant something special for me too.”

When the video circulated on social media, it was generally met with bewilderment by many. One tweet featuring the video has garnered over 10 million views, and was simply accompanied by the caption, “The baby has no idea what’s happening.”

Others compared the clip to a particularly intense scene from Darren Aronofsky’s 2017 movie Mother!, while some questioned why someone was willing to let their newborn child crowd surf.

The moment comes not long after Johnson confirmed that his political aspirations are no more. In a recent CBS Sunday Morning appearance, the former wrestling star said that running for president is “off the table” for him. “I will say this because it requires a B-side to this. I love our country and everyone in it,” he said. “I also love being a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.”

  • Kevin Hart is ‘doing very well’ after car crash

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has said Kevin Hart is “doing very well” after suffering major back injuries in a car crash earlier this month.

Comedian and actor Hart was taken to hospital after a vintage car he was a passenger in rolled down an embankment in the California hills.

Speaking on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Johnson said his pal was “a lucky man”.

“Everything is good,” he said. “I spoke with Kevin – I connected with him today.”

He added: “And you know what? These things happen in life and thankfully he was strapped in nicely to his car seat.”

Hart was supposed to be Clarkson’s first-ever guest on her new TV talk show, so following the accident Johnson cut short his honeymoon (with his new wife’s permission) to fill in.

The pair are close friends – having starred together in films including Jumanji and Central Intelligence – and the former professional wrestler, 47, confirmed he would soon pay Hart a hospital visit.

“I love the guy, he’s one of my best friends,” Johnson went on.

“And honestly, I mean, thank God, it could have been a lot worse. So, he’s a lucky man, and he knows it, too.

“I wish him the best and a speedy recovery and I’m going to see him soon.”

Hart and the car’s driver were both taken to hospital following the crash in the hills above Malibu on 1 September.

The driver of the car was not under the influence of alcohol, according to a California Highway Patrol collision report.
