  • Two dead pigeons were thrown into my compound – Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah alleges

Even before the ballot has been cast at the 10th Delegates of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), there already seems to be some signs of intimidation as is evident in most elections of the nature.

The opposition party will on Saturday December 17, 2022 hold its conference at the Accra Sports Stadium and will have over 9000 delegates take turns to cast their votes for the preferred candidates for the various positions.

Ahead of the event, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah who is aspiring to contest the General Secretary position of the party has shared an image of the what seems to be a dead pigeon which he says was thrown into his compound on Saturday morning.

In a post shared via his WhatsApp status, he alleged that persons seeking to contest him were responsible for throwing the dead pigeons into the compound of his home.

“The stupid idiots who think they have lost think they can shake us. Woke up and felt like going outside immediately before the children woke up and saw 2 pigeons tied and what the necks cut and thrown into the compound,” he wrote.

In another separate message on the development, the NDC Director of Elections wrote; “This is what the stupid idiots who’ve lost threw into the compound o, can you imagine? Into God’s house, hahaha their defeat is sure in Jesus name and they shall receive death by the wrath of God.

“We know from that position he can make a very positive impact on the nation and help forge the development we all desire as citizens.

“This is not about politics. It is about a group of former students of our great former lecturer pooling resources to help him achieve his ambitions and his vision for our country.”

Mr Afriyie-Ankrah’s Campaign Manager, Prince Etornam Attipoe, thanked Mr Dogbey and his group for their generosity towards the mounting of the billboards in support of the campaign.

“These are individuals who believe in our candidate and his vision for the NDC and Mother Ghana,” Mr Attipoe said.

“We are running this campaign mostly on donations and we are very grateful to all those who are contributing in diverse ways with ideas, logistics, publicity materials and even in cash.”

Mr Attipoe reiterated Mr Afriyie-Ankrah’s commitment to revamping the NDC to enable the opposition party to wrest power from the NPP in 2024.

He said Mr Afriyie-Ankrah needs the support of all those who hold the interests of the nation and NDC at heart.

“Whiles expressing gratitude for what we have received so far, we can’t help but ask for more,” Mr Attipoe said.

“We are on the home stretch now and we know we are going to win. But we need all the support we can get to push our candidate over the finish line as the NDC’s choice for change.”

The NDC is due to hold its national delegates congress in Accra on December 19, 2022.

Delegates will elect new national executives to fill various positions such as that of National Chairman and General Secretary.

Analysts believe Mr Afriyie-Ankrah will most likely be elected as the NDC’s next General Secretary.

  • Let’s unite to turn Ghana around – Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah

Aspiring general secretary of the NDC, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has called for a united front among all people of diverse ethnic groups to help promote the unity of purpose for Ghana’s development.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Hogbetsotso Festival of the Anlo state, the current Elections Director of the NDC said, “while the quest for political power is critical in spearheading development, the gracing of the Hogbetsotsoza by the Asantehene, Outhmfuo Osei Tutu II, following the special invitation by Awomefia Togbe Sri signifies a longstanding effort to bring all cultures in Ghana together.”

Director of Elections, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has hailed the Party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, saying the history of Ghana and NDC is incomplete without him.

Mr Nketiah has publicly declared his intention not to seek re-election as General Secretary of the NDC in the Party’s upcoming national congress, after 17 years as chief scribe.

In an audio message, Mr Afriyie-Ankrah, who is seeking to replace Mr Nketiah as General Secretary, described the latter as “a great personality”.

“He is a great personality and definitely an institution, and he has made the necessary impact that anybody could make within the political system, and indeed the history of this country and the history of the NDC would definitely not be complete without talking about his major role over the past 17 years”, Mr Afriyie-Ankrah said.

Mr Afriyie-Ankrah added that, “He (Mr Nketiah) has been an inspiration to all of us, just as some of us aspire to step in his shoes, we can continue to count on his wisdom, guidance and store-house of knowledge.”

The NDC will hold its Constituency elections between October 22 and 23, 2022, while the regional elections would be held between November 12 and 13, 2022.

The National Congress will be held on December 17, 2022.

About 7,900 executives are expected to be elected in a total of 876 elections at the constituency, regional, and national elections scheduled for the next three months.

Mr Nketiah, who had served as General Secretary of the NDC since 2005, in a radio interview on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, said the time had come for him to hang his boots as General Secretary and allow others to also serve the Party in that capacity

Asked if he would be contesting other positions in the upcoming election, Mr Nketiah said he would announce it when the time comes.

Mr Nketiah led the NDC to power in 2008, and 2012 elections.

The Party, under his stewardship as General Secretary also lost the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, sharing the spoils with the New Patriotic Party in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
