It’s my prayer you become Ghana’s next President – Karaga Paramount Chief to Bawumia

The Paramount Chief of Karaga Traditional Area in Dagbon, Naa Bakpem KarNaa Abdulai Natogmah, has expressed his earnest wish that God grants Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the chance to lead Ghana in the upcoming December 7 elections.

He believes that the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, possesses the potential and capability to steer the country towards prosperity.

These sentiments were shared during Dr. Bawumia’s courtesy visit to the Northern Region, where the Paramount Chief and his entourage received him warmly.

Naa Bakpem KarNaa Abdulai Natogmah also praised Dr. Bawumia for facilitating rapid development in Karaga over the years and expressed confidence in his ability to achieve even more with a presidential mandate.

He noted his observation of Dr. Bawumia’s clean, issue-based campaign style, devoid of insults, both in traditional and social media platforms.

The Paramount Chief emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s focus on uniting Ghanaians and promoting development and peace through positive politics resonated well with him.

Regarding government achievements, Naa Bakpem Natogmah highlighted his appreciation for initiatives like the Free SHS program, which he believes has benefited all Ghanaian youth by ensuring equal access to national resources.

“I am a keen follower of your work, and I have seen the information being disseminated, and I am impressed.”

“I commend the government for the Free SHS program, which has benefited everyone,” he added.

Emergency post on Accra-Tema Motorway in bad state

The Accra-Tema motorway’s Emergency Response and First Aid post is in poor condition.

The emergency post had no ambulance at the time of Joy News’ visit on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

Apart from that, the main entrance was under lock and key. Also, there were no paramedics or security personnel on-site at the time of Joy News’ visit.

Peeping through the shattered windows, medical supplies, tables, chairs and mattresses were all scattered in the room with rodents feeding on the debris. The structure itself without electricity and running water was in a deplorable state with the foundation and ceiling giving way.

Drive Safe Campaign: Accra-Tema Motorway Emergency Response & First Aid Post abandoned

Established in 2012 by the GHANA RED CROSS SOCIETY, the emergency post formed part of a pilot project that was to be replicated across major accident-prone highways in the country. Its goal was to run a 24-hour emergency facility manned by paramedics with an ambulance to provide emergency medical attention to road crash victims mainly on the Accra Tema motorway.

Even though road crashes on the Accra-Tema motorway remain rampant, the first aid post is rather closed depriving accident victims on the motorway of the ‘golden hour’ medical attention.

The call for well-equipped and functional First-Aid posts on the country’s highways has heightened following rampant road crashes in recent times.

On Monday, May 29, 2023, 17 lives were lost on the Cape Coast – Accra Highway following a head-on collision between a commercial bus and a fuel tanker.

Also, provisional crash statistics from the National Road Safety Authority, (NRSA) revealed that between January to December 2022, a total of 2,373 persons died resulting from over 14, 959 crashes across the country.

Even though the National Road Safety Authority launched an ambitious plan in 2019 to establish 100 emergency response and first aid posts along major highways to address post-crash victim needs, the question is, in what state are the few posts across the country?

  • Russian soldiers  instructed to treat combat wounds with female sanitary products

UK intelligence has gathered that newly recruited Russian reserve troops have been instructed to procure their own combat first aid supplies.

Female sanitary pads have been recommended to soldiers arriving at the front lines as a cost-effective alternative, which is just another indication of the problems hindering Kremlin forces.

The UK Ministry of Defence said on Twitter: “Medical training and first-aid awareness is likely poor.

“Some Russian troops have obtained their own modern, Western-style combat tourniquets but have stowed them on their equipment using cable-ties, rather than with the Velcro provided – probably because such equipment is scarce and liable to be pilfered.

“This is almost certain to hamper or render impossible the timely application of tourniquet care in the case of catastrophic bleeding on the battlefield.”

The MoD said this shortage of medical equipment is almost certainly contributing to a “declining state of morale and a lack of willingness to undertake offensive operations” in many units in Ukraine.
