Congressman George Santos announces his candidature once more

The U.S past Representative George Santos, who got kicked out of Congress in December and is accused of cheating people who donated to his campaign, says he is running for the House again.

Santos, a member of the Republican Party, was kicked out by other members of the House on Thursday. He said on X that he will compete against another Republican Rep. Nick LaLota represents a different area on Long Island than Santos did before he was kicked out.

Santos said this after going to President Biden’s speech and talking with old friends who voted to remove him from Congress because of a report by the House Ethics Committee.

Santos changed his mind and decided to run for office again, after talking and praying with his friends and family. He is going to challenge LaLota in New York’s 1st Congressional District on Long Island.

“Tonight, I want to say that I’m getting back into politics and competing against Nick for control of NY1,” Santos wrote.

Santos filled out papers with the Federal Election Commission to officially start his campaign and said that he wants to compete against LaLota in the June Republican primary.

LaLota, who is leading the effort to remove Santos, said, “I am willing to compete in a primary election to make sure he is no longer in power. ”

Democrat Tom Suozzi used to have the seat that Santos won in 2022, but he left to run for governor and lost. He recently won back the district in a special election.

Santos said he lied about his work and college when he ran for office before.

He says he did not do the things he’s accused of, like lying to Congress about how much money he has, taking unemployment money he wasn’t supposed to, and using money meant for his political campaign to buy expensive clothes for himself.

A judge has set a trial date for September, after the primary election.

  • US House of Representatives to vote this week on Santos’ expulsion

US House of Representatives to vote this week on Santos’ expulsion

The US House of Representatives is going to vote again to kick Congressman George Santos out of the group this week.

Two times before, people tried to remove the New Yorker from his seat, but now a report on his behavior in office has made it very likely that he will be removed from his position.

Republicans want the 35-year-old to quit. They don’t want to have another vote.

Mr Santos admits that the next vote will probably pass, but he is still resistant.

This is the third time we are experiencing this. “I don’t think it’s important,” he told reporters at the Capitol on Tuesday.

“The politicians in Washington DC can send me home if they think this process was fair and constitutional. I wish them well. ”

The Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, said he thinks the voting will happen on Friday.

Mr Johnson said on Wednesday that he has concerns about removing Mr Santos because it could create a rule that could affect other lawmakers later on.

“We will let people vote based on what they feel is right,” said Mr Johnson at a news conference on Wednesday. “I believe that people will make the decision carefully and honestly. ”

It’s not common for Congress to kick out members, and if the latest vote passes, Mr Santos will only be the sixth lawmaker in House history to be removed.

Earlier this month, a group in charge of making sure politicians behave well said he took money from his campaign and used his role as a candidate to make money for himself.

The panel’s final report accused the Republican of using campaign money for Botox treatments, buying things on OnlyFans, and taking vacations in the Hamptons.

Mr Santos criticized the report as a “political attack,” but he also said he won’t try to be the president again because of the investigation.

The Long Islander is in trouble with the law and is accused of doing many bad things, like stealing money and breaking campaign finance rules.

He stayed in office after two votes to kick him out. Some people said he didn’t do anything wrong and should have a fair trial.

Some people who did not support those actions said they wanted to wait for the House’s investigation on ethics to finish first. Some of the members who previously supported Mr. Santos now want him to be removed.

When the House started working again on Tuesday, two Democrats and the Republican leader of the ethics committee each submitted a motion to remove someone from their position.

Both resolutions, which are important, need to be discussed and voted on in the House within the next two days, or before Thursday.

The Republican leaders said they will allow time for discussion on Thursday and then hold a vote on Friday.

The Democratic measure is like a backup plan. It’s meant to make sure there’s a vote if the Republicans don’t bring up their own resolution this week, according to co-author Robert Garcia.

MrSantos has been criticizing his colleagues online since the ethics report was released, and he is expected to complain more during a press conference on Thursday morning.

His party is finding it hard to decide if they should vote to remove him.

First, it would decrease the Republicans’ small House majority by even more.

If Mr Santos is kicked out, the Governor of New York has 10 days to set up a vote. The vote would happen 70 to 80 days after that.

  • Santos opted not to run for re-election following release of embarrassing ethics report

Santos opted not to run for re-election following release of embarrassing ethics report

George Santos said he won’t run for re-election in 2024 because a committee found he did something wrong.

The group discovered that the congressman stole money from his campaign and used his run for a seat in the House to make money for himself.

Mr Santos said on social media that the report was a “political attack”.

However, he said he will not run for another term because of the investigation.

“My family should not have to deal with constant pressure from the press all the time,” he wrote in a lengthy post, which also criticized the report for being unfair.

The Republican in New York might not stay in office until next November.

Two other people in the government are trying to kick him out of his job.

The ethics committee looked into Mr. Santos and found that he pretended to take out loans for his political groups to make people give more money to his campaign. The committee is made up of an equal number of Republicans and Democrats.

He used campaign money to pay himself back for loans that were not real.

“He used his powerful friends and other political campaigns to get more money for himself by doing dishonest or suspicious business deals,” the committee said in a report. “He kept up with all of this by telling a lot of lies to the people who voted for him, gave him money, and worked for him about where he came from and what he has done. ”

He’s said to have paid for things like Botox and a vacation, even though they didn’t really have anything to do with his campaign.

The ethics committee decided not to take action against the congressman because it might give him more chances to avoid punishment and could interfere with the criminal case against him.

It also said that his behavior deserves public disapproval, is not appropriate for the job, and has damaged the reputation of the House.

They sent Representative Santos to the Department of Justice to consider charging him with more crimes.

Mr Santos has been accused of doing bad things like lying, stealing money, and using someone else’s identity and credit cards.

After the report came out, the head of the ethics committee, Mississippi Republican Michael Guest, said he would propose a plan to kick Mr Santos out of Congress, according to Fox News.

Another politician, California Democrat Robert Garcia, also said online that he will propose a plan to remove someone from their position.

Earlier this month, Santos didn’t get kicked out of the House because most of the members didn’t want that to happen.

Only five people in the history of the US government have been kicked out, and three of them were expelled during the civil war.

    ‘Awful at telling the truth’

Mr Santos became a member of the House one year ago after winning an election.

He said he’s not a good liar, but he described himself during the campaign as someone who represents the American dream. He’s openly gay, his parents are from Brazil, and he worked on Wall Street before going into politics.

However, his story started to fall apart even before he took the oath of office.

Mr Santos said he went to Baruch College in New York City and then worked on Wall Street as a financial expert at big companies like Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. He said his mom almost died in the 9/11 attacks, that he owns a lot of real estate, and that he is a proud Jewish American.

He said he didn’t finish college at Baruch or any other university, and he didn’t work for Goldman Sachs or Citigroup. He didn’t have any property in New York. He is a follower of the Catholic faith, not of the Jewish faith, and it’s possible that his mother was not in the United States on September 11, 2001.

Member of George Santos campaign admits to fraud

A high-ranking official working for Congressman George Santos has admitted to being part of a plan to cheat people.

Nancy Marks went to court on Thursday and admitted that she lied about some of the campaign’s money records.

According to prosecutors, she informed that Mr. Santos falsely stated that he had given the campaign a loan of $500,000 (£410,000).

This is the most recent problem for the Republican lawmaker, who has also been charged with multiple crimes.

During her time in court, Ms. Marks explained to the judge that she was aware the loan had not been given, according to the New York Times.

The incorrect information made it seem like the campaign met the requirements to get money from the national Republican Party.

Prosecutors are also claiming that the campaign falsely reported receiving money from at least 10 relatives of Mr.

Ms Marks got arrested on Thursday and said her plea in a federal court in Long Island.

She might have to go to jail for as long as four years based on her current plea agreement. She was let go from jail by paying a $100,000 bond that she didn’t need to provide collateral for.

According to her lawyer, Ray Perini, Mr. Santos had a strong influence on his client’s mind.

Just after Mr. Santos was elected to represent a suburban area in New York in 2022, the New York Times and other news sources said that he lied about important parts of his resume and life story.

He was closely examined for his doubtful reporting and how he used his money for his campaign.

Mr Santos was accused in May of committing wire fraud, lying to the US House of Representatives, money laundering, and stealing public funds.

Even though people have asked him to quit, Mr. Santos still works in Congress and actively seeks attention.

But he has confessed to making his resume sound better than it actually is.

George Santos appears in court for first time after not-guilty plea to fraud charges

After entering a not guilty plea to accusations of cheating campaign contributors and squandering COVID-19 relief funds, embattled New York lawmaker and alleged fraudster George Santos appeared in court once more.

Indignant demonstrators who called him a “dog killer” met the humiliated lawmaker when he went to court on Friday.

Santos, a Republican who represents portions of Queens and Long Island in the House of Representatives, rose to fame after it was discovered that he had made up a significant portion of his biography and past.

In May, federal prosecutors charged Santos with seven counts of counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of lying to congress.

‘The allegations in the indictment charge Santos with relying on repeated dishonesty and deception to ascend to the halls of Congress and enrich himself,’ said Breon Peace, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

Santos pleaded not guilty to all charges, and called the investigation into his finances a ‘witch hunt.’

On Friday, he returned to court for another hearing for his trial’s discovery phase.

As he walked from his car into the courthouse, one protester shouted ‘dog killer!’ at the congressman.

The protester is believed to be Rich Osthoff, a disabled veteran who previously accused Santos of stealing money raised for his service dog’s veterinary care.

In the courtroom, Santos’s lawyers revealed they turned over more than 80,000 pages of documents during the discovery process.

Santos sat silently through the court proceedings. As he left the courtroom, he wished his prosecutors a ‘happy Fourth of July.’

The New York congressman is scheduled to return to court on September 7, just days before the next session of Congress begins.

Santos left the courthouse flanked by attorneys, carrying a miniature American flag. Osthoff could be heard in the distance again screaming: ‘You killed Sapphire George! You killed my dog!’

Santos did not acknowledge any of the protesters. He has not made any public statements since his appearance on Friday.

Santos continues to remain out of jail on bail.

He was released after his indictment when another party cosigned his $500,000 bond. Last week, the court publicly released his benefactors’ identities: his father, Gercino Dos Santos, and his aunt, Elma Santos Preven.
