  • Kotoko and Hearts need money to deliver – Agyemang-Badu

    Former Ghana midfielder, Emmanuel AgyemangBadu, has said enough money must be provided to Asante Kotoko and Hearts Of Oak to enable them deliver in the upcoming 2022/23 CAF Inter Club competitions.

    Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, who spoke to Ghanaweb, explained that the two teams would need to be assisted financially so they can commute to the needed locations for the competition.

    He said: “Football is about money. You are going to Africa, you need money. They need money to buy players, board their flight to their destination where they will be playing.”

    The Club Licensing Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has approved the License applications of Premier League Champions Asante Kotoko SC and MTN FA Cup winners Accra Hearts Of Oak SC to participate in the upcoming 2022/23 CAF Inter Club competitions.

    Three clubs; Asante Kotoko SC, Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Bechem United FC earlier applied for licenses to compete in Africa, but Bechem withdrew from the process after their defeat to Accra Hearts of Oak in the MTN FA Cup final.  

    Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have received their official Award Letter with the necessary recommendations.

    On which team stands a better chance at the competition, Agyemang-Badu was indifferent.

    He explained that both teams have the potential to be crowned winners, but Kotoko would have to beef up its players while Accra Hearts of Oak intensifies its effort.

    Agyemang-Manu said: “Hearts have experience now when it comes to this (CAF Club Competitions). Last year, they were there. Kotoko for the past years is now going, so we need to beef up our team. But I think both of them have chances. We are talking about the two great clubs in Ghana  and they have a name in Africa

    “Kotoko can go through if they beef the team a bit. Hearts of Oak have beefed up their team with the inclusion of Samuel Incoom. Sulley Ali Muntari has really helped them. I think Hearts are okay but they need to add a little more.”

    Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have been given a deadline of July 31, 2022 by the Committee to fix all defects and comply with the recommendations on their match venues.

    Asante Kotoko SC opted for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and the Accra Sports Stadium was selected by Accra Hearts of Oak SC.

  • Bundesliga side Hoffenheim congratulate Hearts of Oak for winning 12th MTN FA Cup

    Bundesliga side, Hoffenheim have congratulated Hearts of Oak for winning their 12th MTN FA Cup title after beating 10-man Bechem United in the final on Sunday.

    The victory sees the Phobians successfully defended the title they won last season.

    Samuel Boadu becomes the first coach to retain the title since the late Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefi achieved the feat in 1999 and 2000.

    Bechem United took the lead in the final minutes of the first half as fans at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium went frenzy.

    Unfortunately, the celebrations will not last. Hearts of Oak equalised through Caleb Amankwa whose goal cancelled out the earlier strike from Emmanuel Avornyo.

    Later in the second half, Hearts of Oak put up a determined performance that saw the team impress even the neutral fans.

    Hearts of Oak on Sunday evening recorded a 2-1 comeback win against Bechem United to emerge as Champions of the 2021/22 MTN FA Cup competition.

    The victory in the final means that the Phobians have successfully defended the title they won last season.

  • Barcelona forward Memphis Depay meets Hearts of Oak midfielder Sulley Muntari

    Netherlands and Barcelona forward Memphis Depay met Hearts of Oak midfielder Sulley Muntari during his visit to Ghana as the pair played together on a pitch in Accra.

    Muntari joined Depay for a community game in Madina, a suburb of Ghana’s capital.

    In a video posted on social media, the former Manchester United ace was delighted to meet Muntari before the game.

    Depay was involved in street football in Madina, alongside former Holland player Edgar Davis and Spartak Moscow star Quincy Promes.

    Meanwhile, Sulley Muntari returned to his club Hearts of Oak for the final game of the season against Real Tamale United which they lost 4-1 at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday.

    Depay arrived in the West African country last Wednesday, having featured for Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League where he scored three goals in four games.

    The 28-year-old regularly visits the country of his origins despite denying the chance to play for the Black Stars.

    He paid a courtesy call on the Life Patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as well as the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo and presented a signed Barcelona jersey to both.

    Earlier on Saturday, Depay paid a surprise visit to the Asante Kotoko’s camp.

  • Togbe Afede XIV visits Hearts of Oak at training grounds

    Togbe Afede XIV visited Hearts of Oak at the training grounds on Thursday alongside Hon Vincent Sowah Odotei,Dr Nyaho Tamakloe and Alhaji Akambi.

    The Board chairman is expected to have dinner with the playing body and coaching staff on Friday evening.

    Togbe Afede has promised the team he’ll come and watch the MTN FA cup in Kumasi next week Sunday.

    According to reports, the Phobians have neglected defender Robert Addo Sowah after failing to send him to South Africa as promised when he got ankle injury in the Super 2 clash with Kotoko in Kumasi.

    There were players from Burkina Faso who came to do trials with Hearts without the knowledge of Samuel Boadu.

    TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Directors visited club as part of the partnership with Hearts, on Friday, Cincinnati FC officials will do same.

    Hearts of Oak are 5th on the league standings with 48 points.

    Coach Samuel Boadu’s side will host Real Tamale United (RTU) in their final Premier League game on Sunday.

  • Don Bortey wants Asante Kotoko to sign Hearts of Oak trio Barnieh, Mohammed Alhassan and Muntari for Africa

    Former Ghana winger Bernard Don Bortey has called on the management of Asante Kotoko to sign Hearts of Oak trio of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Mohammed Alhassan and Sulley Muntari ahead of the Africa campaign.

    The Porcupine Warriors will be representing Ghana in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League season after merging as winners in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League campaign.

    In the bid to make impact, the former Hearts of Oak star has entreated Kotoko to sign the trio for Africa.

    “Kotoko should go to Hearts and sign Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Mohammed Alhassan, if they can they should also add Sulley Ali Muntari to help them in Africa ” he told Oyerepa FM.

    Don Bortey, who helped Hearts of Oak to win Africa during his spell with the club has come under intense pressure after joining Kotoko to celebrate their league triumph at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday.

  • Sulley Muntari gets standing ovation in Hearts of Oak vs RTU draw

    Former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntri received applause from both Hearts of Oak and RTU supporters when he came off the pitch after playing 78 minutes for the Phobians in his first start after signing for the defending league champions.

    Muntari has been hogging the headlines after joining Hearts of Oak for the remainder of the league campaign.

    The former AC Milan star came off the bench in his first game for the Phobians last week but his presence was not enough as Hearts of Oak lost to Great Olympics in Accra in the Ga Mashie derby.

    On Sunday, the Champions League winner started his first game for the league champions and was impressive in the 78 minutes that he was on the pitch.

    At 37 years old, not many expect him to play a lot of minutes but he brought his experience to bear and tried to help his side beat RTU in Tamale.

    The game, however, ended goalless with Hearts winless in their last two games.

    While being substituted, both sets of supporters were on their feet to applaud him off and he wave right back in appreciation of the love and respect he was getting.

    Hearts will next meet league leaders Asante Kotoko at the Accra sports stadium in what is expected to be a cracking game.

    It waits to be seen if Muntari will start in that game come next Sunday.

  • Check out Hearts of Oak’s 22-man squad for GPL WK2 clash against WAFA

    Hearts of Oak head coach, Samuel Boadu, has named his squad for Ghana Premier League(GPL) match week two clash against WAFA in Sogakope.

    The Phobians visit the Red Bull Arena on Friday, November 5 as they search for the first win of their title defence season.

    Defender, Mohammed Alhassan, who collapsed during the club’s goalless draw with Legon Cities, has recovered in time to make the list.

    Also, left-back, Raddy Ovouka has been included and is expected to have some minutes after battling injuries in recent weeks.

    The only significant absentees are Nuru Sulley, who is reportedly under the weather and Gladson Awako, who is yet to resume training after being excused by the club due to personal reasons.

    The game is set for 3:00 pm kick-off time.

  • CAF Champions League: Hearts of Oak to travel with 24-players to Morocco for Wydad Athletic clash

    Hearts of Oak will depart to Morocco on Thursday evening with a 24-man squad ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg game against Wydad Athletic Club.

    The Phobians defeated Wydad Athletic Club 1-0 in the first leg encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

    Isaac Mensah scored the only goal of the game to give the Ghana Premier League champions an advantage ahead of the second-leg encounter this weekend.

    The team will fly to Morocco with a 43-man contingent made up of 24 players, seven technical staff, management members.

    Ghana FA Executive Council member Dr Randy Abbey will be the leader of delegation for the team to Morocco.

    Hearts will board the Emirate airline to Rabat for the game later today.

    The Phobians will be hoping to make the money zone for the first time since 2006.

    Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak have sealed a bounty sponsorship deal with Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited.

    The Power distribution company will become Hearts of Oak’s new headline sponsors replacing Strategic Africa Securities (SAS) whose deal expired in 2014.

    Sunon Asogli Power which is situated in the jurisdiction of Board Chairman and majority shareholder of the club Togbe Afede XIV will become the new headline sponsors.

    This announcement was made by Togbe Afede XIV during the official presentation of new coach Samuel Boadu on Monday.

    Hearts of Oak have a tall list of sponsors which includes GOIL, StarLife Assurance, official kit suppliers Umbro and Fintech company Cloud Africa.

    Other partnership deal the club have include GTV Sports Plus, Financial Technology firm Cloud Africa, SAS Finance Group, Koflex Gym and Software and Firmware developers Bitsweaver Limited

  • Hearts coach Kosta Papic laments over his team’s lack of consistency after Elmina Sharks draw

    Hearts of Oak coach Kosta Papic is worried by his side’s lack of consistency after their draw at Elmina Sharks on Sunday. 

    The Phobians failed to build on their impressive 6-1 thrashing of Bechem United last week as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw in Elmina on matchday 8 of the Premier League.

    Sharks took the lead through midfielder James Bissue before in-form forward Victor Aidoo rose high to head in the equalizer for Hearts.

    “Not good enough,” said the Serbian tactician after the game. “Five of my players were not on the pitch so it very difficult to win the match,” he added.

    The Phobian traveled to Elmina with a depleted team following injuries to several of their starters.

    “They are still missing that killing instinct. What I said is going to happen, happened. One day we play fantastic and the other day poo,” he said.

    “Consistency is missing from the football we want to play and in that case it difficult to discuss properly,” he concluded.

    Hearts of Oak will next host Techiman Eleven Wonders on matchday 9 of the Ghana Premier League.

  • Hearts of Oak vs Karela United: Kosta Papic names squad for first GPL encounter

    The new head coach for Hearts of Oak, Kosta Papic has named an 18-man squad to face Karela United on Friday as he prepares for his first game in the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.

    The Serbian tactician was appointed as the new head coach for the Phobians on Tuesday and has since taken charge of two training sessions.

    Today, he will be in the dugout when the Phobians take on Karela United on Matchday four of the new Ghana Premier League season.

  • GPL: Hearts of Oaks week 2 clash with Ashgold rescheduled

    The Ghana Premier League match week two clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Ashgold SC scheduled for Saturday, November 21 2020, has been postponed to a later date, the Ghana Football Association has confirmed.

    According to the Ghanaian football governing body, their decision to postpone the game is to ensure that members of Accra Hearts of Oak team who will return from isolation this week will get adequate time to prepare for the league game.

    In view of the above-mentioned development, the game will now be played on Tuesday, November 24 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

    Hearts of Oak are yet to kick start their 2020-21 League campaign after their opening game away at Aduana Stars was called off due to covid-19.

    The Phobians have reportedly had several of their players and officials test positive leaving them with less than enough players for the start of the campaign.

  • Hearts of Oak is part of the six elite African clubs to win treble

    Ghanaian giants, Accra Hearts of Oak has gained the bragging rights over their fierce rivals Asante Kotoko after emerging as the only club from the West African state to win the recognisable treble in world football.

    The Phobians are part of an elite number of clubs to have won three major trophies in a season on the continent, joining Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Congolese powerhouses TP Mezembe and AS Vita Club.

    North Africans Esperance de Tunis and Mouloudia Club d’Algers complete the list.

    Accra Hearts of Oak is the only West African club to have achieved such a significant mark, after winning the Ghana Premier League, the FA Cup and the CAF Champions League in the year 2000.

    The Rainbow club hogged the headlines at the start of the millennium with some exciting football, boasting of some of the finest players in the country, with the likes of Ishmael Addo, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour and Sammy Adjei as the fulcrum of the squad.

    The first African club to set the record of winning a treble in a single season was TP Mezembe in 1967, followed by Congolese rivals AS Vita in 1973.

    MCA or Mouloudia Club d’Alger won the treble in 1976, before Accra Hearts of Oak in 2000 followed by Al Ahly, who did it twice in 2006 & 2007, and the last club to achieve the mark on the continent was the Esperance team of 2011.

    Winning the treble has become a measure to justifying the greatness of a club, with Machester United boasting it’s status as the best club in England after their 1999 treble winning feat.

    Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Bayern Munich are part of the few European elite sides that can brag of a consistent treble making feat.

  • Hearts of Oak to hijack Akaminko’s move to Kotoko

    Gordon Akaminko is on the verge of signing for Ghanaian Premier League giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko per sources close to the Kumasi based team.

    According to several sources, Asante Kotoko have made multiple enquiries about the striker and his brother James Akaminko who left Ashanti Gold SC weeks ago after his contract expired.

    Meanwhile, Accra Hearts of Oak are set to hijack the move from their bitter rivals as Hearts sees the striker as a possible replacement for Joseph Esso.

    The rainbow team is said to have also made multiple enquires about the availability of the striker over the past two weeks and willing to sign him from Division One league side Tema Youth.

    The young versatile forward joined Tema Youth in January 2020 after turning down a move to several Ghana Premier League teams from Hearts of Lions where he was the key forward-line for the Kpando based team.

  • Hearts of Oak has sent a counter-offer to Qatari side Al-Sailiya for Kofi Kordzi’s transfer – Opare Addo

    Accra Hearts of Oak Communication Director, Kwame Opare Addo has debunked reports in the media that the club has turned down an offer of $200,000 from Qatari top-flight side Al-Sailiya for the striker Kofi Kordzi.

    According to sources, the Phobians have already rejected three offers from the Doha-based outfit.

    Kwame Opare Addo in an interview confirmed that Qatari club has confirmed interest in the player but added that negotiations are ongoing between the two parties over his release.

    He explained that Accra Hearts of Oak is willing to release the player if a good deal is struck between both sides.

    Opare Addo also quashed reports in the media that the team has rejected offers made by the club to sign the bulky striker.

    “We have not rejected the offer as been reported in the media. We have only sent a counteroffer to the team and waiting for their response”, he said in an interview on Asempa FM.

  • Joseph Esso swerves Hearts of Oak over fresh contract talks

    Accra Hearts of Oak supporters officials were stood up by striker Joseph Esso who was released by club last week.

    The former contract rebel promised to meet National Chapters Committee leadership over outstanding issues to signing a new contract on Monday.

    Officials waited in vein as the 23-year-old failed to show up for the meeting and later communicated to them to reschedule the meeting to Tuesday.

    Hearts supporters leadership have vowed to get their prized asset to commit himself to a new deal at the club and booked an appointment with him.

    Ghanasportsonline.com checks can confirm that the former Ebusua Dwarfs forward informed officials which included Asante Nfodwo Jones that he is unable to attend the meeting hours after leaving the officials in state of despair and confusion.

    Several reports in the Ghanaian media has linked the striker with a move to Kumasi Asante Kotoko while other reports have linked him to AshantiGold with a Serbian club also reportedly in the offing.

    Esso had 6 months left on his contract with Hearts but the former African champions decided to release him from the contract after almost a year of failed attempts to get him to commit to a new deal.

    Hearts proposed a USD$520.00 a month salary and a yearly earning of USD$5,200.00 for a proposed three-year period. Meanwhile the club intend to spread the yearly earning to cover for monthly salary in addition to the USD$520.00 over the period of the deal meaning the 23-year-old would have earned around USD$1000 a month.

    But, the powerful center forward categorically told the Hearts of Oak hierarchy he will not commit himself to a new deal at the club unless his demand for USD$27,000 as renewal fee is met with a monthly salary of USD$870.00.

    The back-and-forth lingered for over 10 months leaving the parties with no definite solution to the matter.

  • Kotoko, Hearts and AshGold are after my signature – Lee Addy

    Ghana International Lee Addy has revealed that three Ghana Premier League clubs are after his signature.

    The highly-rated defender speaking on Max FM’s SportsBiz says he is in talks with all three clubs and will make a decision on which one he will join before the upcoming season.

    “I am talking to three clubs Kotoko, Ashantigold and Hearts of Oak and we hope to come to a conclusion soon. Hearts and Kotoko are like Barcelona and Real Madrid but I also respect AshGold very well so any of them that gives me a good offer I will gladly accept. I am a footballer and will take any offer which is good for me, it could be in Africa or Europe and I will embrace the offer.”

    Lee Addy won the best defender in the Ghana Premier League twice when he played for Bechem Chelsea from 2008 to 2010.

    He is a journeyman in football having had stints in Croatia, China, Russia among others.

  • I wanted to stay – Ex-Hearts defender Benjamin Agyare

    Former Hearts of Oak defender Benjamin Agyare has said that he is sad to have parted ways with the  club despite his willingness to stay.

    Hearts of Oak on Friday announced they had parted ways with Benjamin Agyare and four others following the expiration of their contracts.

    According to the Centre-back, he was ready to stay at the club but management had already decided to not extend his contract.

    “I had a call from the management of Hearts of Oak and when I met them,they started thanking me for my service so it was clear indication that my services was not needed anymore”,  he told vision 1 fm.

    “I wished to continue with Hearts but that’s the end of the road for me. I feel a bit of pain because, I had an accident and stayed away for a while but I still showed commitment and love when I returned”

    The former Hearts of Lions defender thanked the supporters and fans of the club for the support during his stay at the club.

    “I want to thank all Phobians for the love and support they showed me during my time and I plead they continue even as I’m not part of them anymore as a player. I thank the management for the opportunity they gave me at Accra Hearts of Oak”.

    “I have no problem with the management and all monies have been paid to me”, he added.

  • Hearts of Oak reveals why they parted ways with Joseph Esso

    Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Opare Addo, has revealed the reason behind the club’s decision to part ways with striker, Joseph Esso.

    Opare Addo in an interview with Kumasi based radio station Sikka FM disclosed the player wanted a year contract extension with the the club wanting more years.

    Joseph Esso opted for only one-year contract extension contrary to what Hearts were requesting for. His demands caused our decision to part ways with him,” said Opare Addo.

    The 23-year-old joined Hearts of Oak on a three-year deal from fellow Premiership side Ebusua Dwarfs in 2017.

    He netted 3 goals in his 14 appearances for the Phobians in the truncated 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season.

    Esso was a member of the Black Stars ‘B’ squad that won silver medal at the 2019 WAFU Cup staged in Senegal.

    The Phobians also released Agyare, Bonney, Traoré and Arthur for non-performance as their contracts with the club have run out.

  • Hearts of Oak part ways with Joseph Esso, Christopher Bonney and 3 others

    Accra Hearts of Oak SC has today parted ways with 5 players including star man Joseph Esso, as well as Christopher Bonney and Bernard Arthur.

    In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Ghana Premier League giants were in talks with the players hoping that they would extend their contracts.

    Unfortunately, after failing to reach an agreement with any of the 5 players, management of Accra Hearts of Oak has today announced that the players will not continue with the team next season.

    “Hearts of Oak management has met players, Joseph Esso, Benjamin Agyare, Christopher Bonney, Bernard Arthur, and Abubakar Traore, and thanked them for their services as both sides opted not to extend their contracts. We wish them the very best of luck in their respective careers”, a post on the club’s official Twitter handle has said.

    Meanwhile, there is an ongoing contract talks between the Accra-based club and midfielder Benjamin Afutu.

    Talks are at an advanced stage with the club confident of tieing him down to a new contract.

    Exited Hearts of Oak defender Christopher Bonney has denied reports that the club has called for the return of the team’s kits in his possession.

    Five players opted not to extend their contracts with the Ghanaian giants, having seen the execution of their respective deals.

    Hours after the Phobians announced the exit of the players, reports across sections of the media suggested that Joseph Esso, Benjamin Agyare, Christopher Bonney, Bernard Arthur and Abubakar Troare have been asked to return the team’s kits in their possession.

    But speaking to Western Region’s Connect FM, Bonney who joined the Phobians in 2017, refuted the claim, saying he has not received any call from the club for such.

    “Hearts of Oak management haven’t called us to return any jersey,” he said.

    The club has already thanked the five players for their services, wishing them well in their next destination, a gesture the former Ebusua Dwarfs defender has responded in an equal manner.

    “I’m Grateful To Hearts of Oak For the opportunity given to me,” Bonney said.

    “As a player, if you spend even a single day at a club, you need to be grateful to them.

    “I spent three years at Hearts and they paid me salaries and bonuses in that process, I can only thank and appreciate them,” he added.

    Bonney joined the Phobians in 2017 and became one of the best for the club in the NC Tournament.

    According to the right-back, he opted to hold on to signing of a new contract with the rainbow club, a move he describes as being good in the end

    “Hearts wanted to extend my contract after the NC tournament but I told them to hold on,” he said.

    “When the league started and I lost my place in the starting eleven, my decision turned out to be good in the end.”

    Christopher Bonney was the first team choice for the right-back position for the Phobians and had sterling performance under former coach Kim Grant during the NC tournament.

    He, however, lost his position to team captain Fatawu Mohammed at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, when coach Odoom took over the managerial mantle.

    Speaking on to Connect FM on Saturday, the spot kick expert revealed he was hankering after move to Tema Based Inter Allies, which didn’t materialise due to the suspension of the league over the covid-19 pandemic.

    “I would have signed for Inter Allies if the league was in progress but now that it is halted and we don’t know when play will resume, clubs are not signing,” he added.

    Accra Hearts of Oak have settled their indebtedness to players and staff of the club of their two month salary arrears.Players and members of the technical staff have been owed two months salary arrears for the month of June and July but that ha now been settled.

    Football the world over has suffered greatly from the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic and Ghana is no different.

    There has been no football in Ghana since the middle of March with most clubs depending on gate proceeds to survive.

    Hearts of Oak have have as of today paid players salary arrears for the last two months and players and members of staff will be greatly relieved.

    With some clubs employing salary cuts in order to mitigate the dire financial strains of the coronavirus pandemic, it is believed the phobians are paying their players and technical staff in full.

    Hearts of Oak like most other clubs in Ghana cannot wait for football to bounce back so as to generate revenue from the gates and sponsorship monies from the league.

    Ghanaian striker Mahatma Otoo is ‘looking forward to achieving great heights’ at his new club, Bandirmaspor.

    The former Hearts of Oak striker completed his switch to the TFF First League side last weekend but was officially unveiled on Tuesday after putting pen to paper.

    “I,m happy to announce to my fan that I have just signed for Bandirmaspor Kulüp Sayfas To the Balikesirspor and fans I appreciate you [sic]thanks for everything. To my new Bandirmaspor Kulüp Sayfas, I pledge 100% to you and looking forward to achieving great heights together. Thanks and God bless [sic],” he posted on Facebook.

    He moves to the club after ending his stay with rivals Balikerispor at the end of the campaign.

    The 28-year old has a rich history in the TFF league, having scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists in 104 matches.

    The powerful forward has 70 goals in 230 appearances and is seen as the best acquisition for the club following his enormous experience in Turkey.

    He has played five times for the national team of Ghana.

    Mahatma Otoo previously played for St. Mirren, Hearts of Oak, ES Tunis, Sogndal, Ümraniyespor, Balikerispor.

  • Hearts of Oak open talks with Benjamin Afutu over new contract

    Hearts of Oak have moved to offer a new contract to midfielder Benjamin Afutu Kotei following his exploits last season.

    The 24-year-old joined the Phobians on a three-year deal in 2018 on a free transfer after ending his stay with Karela United and has since been a key cog of the side.

    He was touted as one of the best defensive midfielders in the country during the truncated 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season.

    According to Kickgh.com, Hearts of Oak have talks with Kotei over a new deal with only six months left on his current contract with the club.

    The report also stated that the midfielder will see him an increase in salary to reflect his importance to the team.

    He featured in 13 out of 15 league games for the Rainbow outfit with a brilliant performance against Great Olympics where he bagged a brace and picked the Nasco Man-of-the-Match Award.

    Kotei was a member of the Black Stars ‘B’ squad that won silver medal at the 2019 WAFU Cup staged in Senegal.

    Hearts of Oak midfielder Benjamin Afutu says it would be a dream for him to play for Italian giants Juventus and represent them in the Champions League.

    The 24-year-old has big dreams and he is on the right path to achieving them. After a successful debut season with the Phobians, Afutu has been tipped to reach the top in his career.

    According to him, he draws inspiration from Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey and is working hard so he can get to play for his dream club, Juventus.

    He adds that playing in the most coveted club competition (UEFA Champions League) is something that he also aspires and that, he believe Juventus can help him achieve his dream.

    “The player I admire most is Thomas Partey. My dream is to play for Juventus and participate in the UEFA Champions League,” he told Angel FM in Accra.

    New Hearts of Oak signing Ademola Danjuma Kuti says he can’t wait to return to playing football after the abrupt end of the Ghana Premier League due to COVID-19.

    Nkoranza Warriors president, Leslie Kuku Bartels has disclosed that Hearts of Oak have invested in a quality striker after signing Isaac Mensah.

    The 17-year-old penned a three-year deal with the Phobians after the Division One side reached an agreement with Hearts to enable the lad to join them during the 2020/21 season.

    In an interview with Graphic Sports, Bartels said Mensah joined his club from Royal Sporting Club, a Division Two side in Konongo, in December 2019 as the club fought for a premiership slot.

    “We needed a striker to fill the gap left behind after Kwame Opoku was transferred to Kotoko. Isaac Mensah has been promising since joining us and he made an impact in the club, scoring eight goals out of 11 games before the season was suspended.

    “I have the eyes to scout for quality strikers as a football person and bringing the chap to the club has been fruitful,” he noted.

    “My interest in the player grew after we had a vacant position in the striking department of Nkoranza Warriors and I had to contact Royal Sporting Club for his services. And he has proved to be good with much hope since joining us,” he further revealed.

    He scored eight goals in the suspended Division One League and holds the record of scoring four goals in a game against Yendi Gbewaa.

    Hearts of Oak have already signed Nigerien midfielder Abdourahamae Mamane Lawali, Abednego Tetteh, and striker Danjuma Ademola Kuti from Nigeria ahead of next season.

    Board member for Accra Hearts of Oak, Frank Nelson Nwokoro has said the club will not force players to play for them.

    This is coming on the back of media speculations that some players will be shown the exit door in the next transfer window.

    Setting the records straight, Frank Nelson noted that there are no ongoing contract renewal talks with any of Hearts of Oak player.

    Accra Hearts of Oak has started works on the much talked about Pobiman project which is expected to be completed in 3-months time by the local contractor.

    The ongoing project will accommodate Accra Hearts of Oak Academy and the first team players.

    The Supporters Union has revealed that they are ready to contribute financially to Pobiman project construction.

    Speaking on local radio station Oyerapa FM, the National Chapters Committee Chairman, Elvis Herman Hesse, said“I have notified the MD who is also happy with the idea so we will carry it to the board to get the green light as to how we will go about it,”

    “We need to seek clearance from the board as to which means and capacity we can help,”

  • Mass exodus to hit Hearts of Oak – Reports

    Following the truncation of the 2019/20 football season, eight players are reportedly on their way out of Hearts of Oak according to report.

    According to a report filed by Sunyani-based Nimde3 FM, the eight players were left out of the 26-man squad presented to the Hearts of Oak management by head coach Edward Nii Odoom.

    The players left out of the squad include right-back Christopher Bonney, and attackers Bernard Arthur and Abubakar Traore.

    Some of these eight players would be moving out of Hearts of Oak on loan while the rest will have their contract terminated.

    It is reported that Christopher Bonney might join Inter Allies on loan as the Tema-based club have shown interest to sign the right-back for the 2020/2021 league season.

    Hearts of Oak majority shareholder Togbe Afede XIV has been named the Overall Entrepreneur of the Decade at the Ghana Entrepreneurs and Corporate Executive Awards.

    The businessman was crowned on Saturday, 18 July, 2020.

    Togbe Afede XIV, is Paramount Chief of the Asogli State in the Volta Region, is also the president of the National House of Chiefs.

    He is the Executive Chairman of the World Trade Centre in Accra and founder and CEO of SAS Finance Group Limited.

    In 2012, he bought nearly 40 percent shares in Hearts of Oak to be the single majority shareholder.

  • Hearts of Oak MD Frederick Moore tours Pobiman Complex

    Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak S.C, Mr Frederick Moore, and other bigwigs of the Phobian fraternity have paid a visit to the club’s Pobiman Complex.

    Work on the Pobiman Academy project is moving smoothly with Ghanaian firm K.A Estates Constructions Company Limited working around the clock to finish the work within the projected timeframe.

    Last month, the Accra-based giants signed an agreement with the local construction company for them to start the early works on the project.

    Turkish firm, Prefabex Limited will take over and are expected to complete the project in two months.

    On Wednesday, some high-ranking members of the club including Team Manager Nii Sabahn Quaye and Assemblywoman of the Pobiman area Hon. Selina Avevor toured the site.

    Former Accra Hearts of Oak and Ghana goalkeeper Ali Jarrah is confident that coach Charles Akonnor can end the country’s AFCON trophy drought.

    Ghana has not won the Nations Cup since 1982, coming close on three occasions in the last two decades.

    After a disappointing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Ghana Football Association ended their relationship with Kwasi Appiah, appointing Charles Akonnor as the new coach.

    Akonnor is yet to make his national team coaching debut but Ali Jarrah is optimistic that the former Kotoko coach will be successful with the Black Stars.

    “C.K needs support,” he told Citi Tv’s The Tracker Show. “The materials are there and through the support, we can break that jinx.”

    “C.K Akonnor was appointed because he is capable so we should allow him to pick his best team, make his own decisions,” he added.

    “The players must play for C.K and the not country, they should see him as a former captain and I tell you we can win the AFCON.”

    Former Ghana goalkeeper Ali Jarrah has revealed how he was signed for only GHC 15 by Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak.

    The former national star insists he joined the Rainbow club from Fatah FC (now Mighty Victory) after impressing whiles playing Juvenile football.

    “I was signed for only GHC 15,” he disclosed on Citi Tv’s The Tracker show. “I joined Hearts from Fatah Babies now Mighty Victory, Stephen Appiah’s Migthy Victory,” he added.

    The then 15-year-old revealed he was unveiled in front of a huge Hearts crowd at the Accra Stadium, with people wondering who the petite goalkeeper was.

    “Back then we lined up in front of the fans and we are outdoored to the fans. Your name is mentioned and the fans will applaud you but right before my name was mentioned I was called to go and do ‘macho’,” he added.

    Jarrah was brilliant in his hay days, sweeping every individual award before his career was hit following an injury that rendered him bedridden for a long time.

    The injury cost him moves to Europe with the likes of Liverpool and FC Koln lining up to sign the youngster.

    The much-talked-about Hearts of Oak academy project at Pobiman is swiftly taking shape just one week after its commencement.

    Last month, the Phobians announced that local contractor K.A Estate will begin the Pobiman Project in early July in which they did.

    The Pobiman Project which had stalled for almost sometime now has finally taken off with grounds work.

    The project would include multi-purpose facilities that would house players, gymnasium, swimming pool, multiple playing fields, and other facilities.

    K.A Estate Limited are expected to complete their work on the project in the next 90 days.

  • Hearts of Oak not giving up on signing Sulley Muntari – Club boss hints

    Accra Hearts of Oak are not giving up their hope of signing the legendary midfielder, Sulley Muntari.

    The 36-year-old has been linked to the Ghana Premier League side after parting ways with the Spanish side, Albacete in June 2019.

    However, the former AC Milan man has also been linked to PSL side, Orlando Pirates and SuperSports United.

    Works have finally begun on Accra Hearts of Oak’s Pobiman Academy Project with K.A Estates Constructions Company Limited following through with their contract with the Ghana Premier League giants.

    On June 26, 2020, the Phobians signed an agreement with the local construction firm for them to start the early works on the project.

    After initial works which are expected to take 3 months to complete, a Turkish firm, Prefabex Yapi Teknolojiller San Ve Tic Limited will take over to complete works on the project, ensuring that the dream of the club to have an ultramodern sporting facility becomes a reality.

    Today, the first step in the construction of the Pobiman Academy has been witnessed.

    After 12 months, Accra Hearts of Oak should boast of a facility that has a staff residence, senior housing unit, gym, training centers, laundry, swimming pool, lockers, toilet facilities, kitchen, as well as a dining hall.

    Hearts of Oak Managing Director Frederick Moore has disclosed that the Pobiman project will be completed in six months’ time.

    The Phobians, last week Thursday signed an agreement with local contractors K.A Estates Limited to commence work on the Project.

    Speaking to Opemsuo 104.7 FM in an interview, Moore said the project is so dear to the management and wants to see the project completed in the shortest possible time.

    “I want to see Pobiman project completed at the shortest possible time,” he told Opemsuo 104.7 FM.

    “The project is so dear to us, and we will work assiduously to see the full work done in the next six months,” he added.

    Hearts of Oak have selected Turkish construction firm Prefabex Yapi Teknolojiller San Ve Tic Limited for the construction of the Pobiman Academy Project.

  • Hearts of Oak secures Ghc 4 million for Pobiman project

    Ghanaian giant, Accra Hearts of Oak S.C has secured a GHC4 million fund from Guarantee Trust Bank, to begin the Pobiman project.

    The money has been released to the club with the project set to commence in the coming days.

    The Ghana Premier League side on Friday 25 June announced that the project was set to begin by signing an agreement with local contractor K.A Estate Limited to commence work at the venue.

    The club after the official announcement indicated that the local contractors would team up with Turkish contractors Prefabex Yapi Teknolojileri San Ve tic LTD, who had been mandated to construct the state of the art Phobia Academy.

    The local contractors are expected to complete the substructural work within three months whilst the Turkish would use another four months to complete the entire project.

    Officials of Accra Hearts of Oak were at the venue on Saturday to hand over the site to the local contractors for work to begin.

    According to Hearts of Oak board member Frank Nelson the project is expected to be completed within six months.

    The Pobiman project when completed is expected to have multiple playing fields, accommodation for players, technical team and other management staff, swimming pool, among others.

    Bechem United Football Club attacker, Hafiz Konkoni has stressed that he is still determined to play for Hearts of Oak in the future.

    The forward is one of the top players playing in the Ghana Premier League this season and has been impressive for his side before the campaign was suspended as a result of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.

    Speaking in a recent interview, the highly-rated attacker has noted that even though there are a number of top clubs in the country, he will prefer to play for the Hearts of Oak.

    Former Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak midfielder, Joe Tagoe has emphasized that he will not advise any young player to play for the Accra based club.

    In an interview with Accra based Ashaiman TV, Joe Tagoe argues that the current management of the club are not good and for that matter, wont advise young players to play for the rainbow boys.

    “At first, when playing football, your first motive is to play for Hearts or Kotoko. We have learnt our lessons now and we wouldn’t want the next generation to fall victim. I’ll not advice young players who come to me for advise to play for Hearts”

    “What I’ll tell you will let you run from Hearts. I expect them to invite some of us who speak ill against the club on Tv or radio, sit us down, and will know why we are saying that”

    Former Accra Great Olympics and Accra Hearts Of Oak midfielder, Joe Tagoe has lambasted board chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, Togbe Afede and the entire management over poor management of the club.

    Speaking on Agopramanso on Ashaiman TV, the diminutive midfielder revealed how unsatisfied he is with the management of his former club under the watch of Togbe Afede.

    “I do not see him helping Hearts of Oak. I have not gotten closer to him much, but from afar, he is not helping.

    The management of Hearts of Oak are not good in terms of managing a club.

  • Hearts of Oak set to appoint Director of Football

    Board Chairman of Hearts of Oak, Togbe Afede XIV has revealed that the club intends to appoint a Director of Football to model the Ghanaian giants with the modern trends of the game.

    The Phobians are poised to enter into the new phase of administration with several innovations including the start of their pobiman project.

    According Togbe Afede XIV, management of the club want to build a team capable of competing with giants such as TP Mezembe and Al Ahly.

    “We are therefore putting in good administrative structures at the very top of the pinnacle and, this is also been trickled down to the technical team and playing body as we seek to assemble the best materials possible to accomplish this task”, he told GTV Sports Plus.

    He added: “A Director of football will soon be appointed to spearhead the technical directorship of the club and, the recent recruitment of some players (local and foreign) to beef up the team also falls in this direction.”

    The Phobians have not won any major trophy since winning the league in 2007/08 season.
