Israel Defense Force declares ‘local tactical pause’ in Rafah for ninety minutes

The Israeli army said on X(formerly Twitter) that there will be a short break in the fighting today in the southern part of Gaza.

“A temporary stop in fighting will happen today in the Rafah area until 2:00pm [12:00 GMT]. This is to let more humanitarian aid come in,” it says.

Another message in Arabic said that the break would happen in the El Geneina neighborhood.

These breaks happen a lot and have been named in different areas of Gaza. Not long ago, Rafah was a pretty safe place where there was not much fighting.

Since the truce with Hamas ended last Friday, the IDF has been attacking the area more often.

Israeli military claims to have destroyed 500 Hamas tunnels

Earlier, we listened to Lt Col Richard Hecht speak at a briefing for the Israel Defense Force (IDF).

Lieutenant Colonel Hecht said: “Because there is fighting again, we are increasing the work we are doing against Hamas in all of Gaza. ”

“We’re focusing on the buildings and tunnels where the operatives work. ” We found more than 800 tunnels and destroyed 500 of them.

The level of protection is very high and unusual.

“We are making sure that we cause as little harm as possible to innocent people while our soldiers search through each building. ”

As we work, we are making sure that civilians are safe and soldiers are moving between buildings to minimize harm.
